Am I the only person who thinks that Dalot is a liability? His defensive abilities are truly limited and suspect, which is pretty much disastrous for a defender.

He's a lot better than people give him credit for. Versus Southampton was just a bad day but you have to remember he's having to play out of position. Still got an assist mind you. And he was our best and most consistent player last season.

Nope u aren’t. Massively overrated for me. Decent going forward but a massive problem defensively. IF shaw is fit then I don’t see Dalot starting as mazroui has been solid so far.

He’s also got zero support from the player in front of him.

He's not a left back, so yes he is a liability there.

He isn't great as a right back, better going forward then defending and better than he is on the left.

Mazroui was signed for a reason, and i rather fancy he is seen as an upgrade on Dalot overall and for me he is the starter now.

However, I have to say its a modern trend in football, full backs who aren't good defenders but good going forward.

I think it might just be a simple case of contrast.

I mean, last year, we had a defensive injury crisis that essentially drew the focus to those who weren't playing - Shaw, Martinez and, to a lesser extent, Malacia.
We also had the constant rumblings about the discontent felt by Messrs Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire and Lindelof.

So, by contrast, Dalot, being fit and versatile, made much less news.
It could well be argued that he was our best defender last season, simply because he was fit and available.

Whereas, this season, there's much less news about injuries and/ or contract discontent amongst our defensive stable so, perhaps, the weaknesses (presumed or proven) of Dalot are a little more pertinent.

Here's an angle for you.
Last season, Dalot and Wan-Bissaka shared LB duties, but Martinez and Shaw were out.
The LCB role was taken up by one of Evans, Maguire, Lindelof and Kambwala - all 4 of them will carry the innate capacity to understand the frailties of a right-footed player playing in an unfamiliar left-sided position.
Martinez and Shaw have never been used as right-sided players, so they've never been able to develop any kind of understanding of how awkward it can be for a Dalot or Mazraoui on the left.

So, just maybe, it might simply be that the instinctively-different Martinez is playing his own natural game, without revisions, that doesn't particularly lend itself to the strengths of Dalot in an unfamiliar position.

As for him being a bad defender, no.

We won 3-0, let's find a player to slaye, yay.

Never rated Dalot, going forward he is ok, but defensively he is awful. I’m hoping that we replace Shaw and then use Mazraoui to replace Dalot at RB.

He is right footed which means any player taking him on the outside is at an advantage. Last season he played reasonably well defensively at right back and offensively was even better. He is doing a job for the team and shouldn't be castigated when it's not his natural position.

Not sure what anyone seen from Mazzaroui to think he is any better than Dalot as a defender…. Cos he a shiny new player everyone raving same as Ugarte, when in fact neither have pulled up any trees anywhere. I just hope one of them turns out good enough…but I have my doubts!

I thought Dalot was let down and exposed by a lack of support by Rashford.

Dalot is very good player imo and from what you hear a top pro. All defenders make mistakes especially when they are played out of position. He had a difficult time with the right winger on Saturday. Move on.

Any injury updates that's real and not rumours. Martinez, Maguire, Mazroui, Lindelof.

Watched arsenal yesterday and one injury and a suspension to a couple of key players and they parked the bus, sat deep and played on the counter. Spurs had 65% possession. Poor game to watch and both sides did not do much but a set piece goal.

NC with no European football will be around top 5 this year imo if they can keep away from major injury issues. Two great goals from them.

Everton having sold Onana look like they will concede goals all year.

Next 3 league games all going to be challenging. Palace away, spurs at home and villa away and European football in there too. Hoping we can pick up 7 points and we will be up and away. We owe palace one and some redemtion for the horror show last year.

Dalot is talented but playing out of position, on his wrong foot. A full back needs support from the wide midfield player especially away from home and Rashford is poor at that. The question is why we are four games into a new season with the left back position still having problems after the same all last season.

Dalot is a modern day full back in that they are comfortable on the ball, good engine up and down and good going forward. Unfortunately as we see with these the defensive side of the game is not as we used to see from full backs historically.

Adjusting from defending the right side to the left whilst it seems minor must take some getting used to. When you consider the muscle/ brain memory that he has to play instinctively, the way he runs, the angles he defends, the way he will push a player to the sideline etc We should expect some negaitives in his play.

I think Dalot is very good on the right and good on the left and this is why he is a better option than most other we have at the minute. He is also not getting much defensive support down that side from his wingers.

Hopefully we will get Shaw back soon and we can then rotate Dalot/ Mazouari on the fight.

I wouldn't say he's a liability, not world class IMO but a solid option. I'd say personally I like what I've seen of Mazraoui and that he and Shaw should be the first choice fullbacks, but Dalot doesn't send shivers down my spine when he's in the team unlike a few.

I'm with you spenno.
Not the worst not the best not very good at defending definitely not good at over lapping and crossing but that could be following instruction as our manager bloke asks the full backs to move into midfield. A tactic that has not worked very well at all.
Maz is a much better rb imo no comparison between the 2.
Shaw and malacia are better at lb than dalot also imo.
He is a 6 out of 10 most weeks with the odd 4 or 8 out of 10 thrown in.
Saturday was a 4 but we got away with it so no damage done.
