Being reported that the Premier League have completed their review process to allow the transfer of Chido Obi-Martin to Manchester United, from Arsenal, and consequently the signing is now complete.

This is excellent news, needed at present, am looking forward to seeing him play.

Could be a great signing but he’s very young.
I’d be delighted if he has any impact this season or next it would be very impressive. But I’d be surprised

I have some reservations too, not sure if his stats are due his advanced physicality or if he is just that good.

Remember Erik Nevlands stats for the reserves.

UR I posted the very same point some weeks back, however, he does have excellent pace and a goalscoring nous. Time will tell.

I certainly do not expect to see him in the first team for some time, this season will be about U21s and maybe some training with first team squad.

One of our other new young signings, Sekou Kone, is seemingly very much impressing the hierarchy at Carrington and they are hopeful he will soon be fit enough to start playing for U21s.

We have some outstanding players in the youth teams. let's hope a few of these break through over the next few seasons.

Whether or not Obi-Martin makes it to the top with us or not remains to be seen.

To be honest it's not the name that excites me, or the talent, or the records at youth level, or the YouTube highlight reels.

What excites me about this signing is that it isn't a one off.

We have also signed James Overy, Samuel Lusale, and Sekou Kone this summer along with Chido Obi-Martin.

This is a clear and targeted decision to bring in the best youth players and develop the academy with the aim of producing more talent for the first team on a more consistent basis.

We have also moved on youth players who will not make it at the club, freeing up space and giving the coaches more time to spend with the best young players to develop their talent.

We've sent more out on loan, and many of those loans look far smarter choices than in previous years. Not just loans to anyone who'll take them, but sent to clubs that look to play a front foot, progressive style of play. Allowing them to develop by playing at a higher level in a team that plays in a similar way to what we will ask them to play in the first team.

Obi-Martin looks a phenomenal young talent, but you need more than talent to make that step up to senior football at the highest level. Maybe he makes it, maybe he doesn't.

But the fact remains the new owners are looking to embrace one of the most important aspects of the identity of our club. Youth development. They are looking to improve and expand that side of the club. Given that all of our periods of success have come when we have had a core group of youth players in the first team, it feels like the first real step to getting back to being the club we were before.

The thing i like about him in the limited youtube clips and what I've read about him is he reminds be a bit of Mason Greenwood- same sort of style and he just seems to turn up score goals then go home. Talent like that is rare, can't be taught only improved on.
