Angel Di Maria - We are made to believe he hasn't adapted to the Premier League this year, many media outlets have reported that due to his bad season we would want to offload him.

Yet there he is, 2nd in the assists table above Sanchez, Cazorla, Hazard, Henderson & Sterling. All players playing similar positions. (CM/Wing).

I firmly believe he is class and we should be playing him vs City.

No disrespect to Young of course who has worked his sock off and is twice if not three times the player he was last season.

Di Maria may have had some poor games but I genuinely think some of the things he has done are class. I know that his rumoured pass completion is rather low but the chances he creates and assists he makes are sublime. I believe that next season he will be on the team sheet every week and people of his ability are needed. It's just not always been so smooth for him so far.

Young should start as he's better defensively and works harder. Di Maria loses possession too easily but is a good bench option to either kill it off ir if were chasing.

He leaves us exploited constantly and needs to do more defensively to start regularly.

JMB that is true and we know that he is capable of that because he did that very well in his last season for Madrid. Infact he was one of the best players in that team while playing that role.

11 Apr 2015 06:53:17
It's the price tag which makes him people expect to much from him every game. Anyone can have a bad game.

We haven't a seen him beat a player with skill or pace. He's been very easy to shove off the ball. Big disappointment at the moment. However, we all know he has the skill and the heart to do extremely well for us. I think this season is one of adapting to the PL. Next season will be the one to judge him

Stats can be misused. There is no doubt that Di Maria is capable of moments of brilliance, but that's simply not enough. He has not adapted to the EPL in general or United's style of play in particular. (In this respect, it's taken the whole team 30 games to work out what that is, so he can surely be forgiven to some extent).

He will need to get tougher, not concede possession so cheaply, bolster his defensive contribtion, improve his corner taking, look up and read his teammates runs better, and try to develop his right foot more. Assuming we make it to the Champions League, I expect him to be an extremely valuable player next year.

11 Apr 2015 13:40:59
Agreed no midfield he should be judged on next year, at times I have been disappointed but in fairness to him, a massive fee on his head, a new team, league and country to get used to and he has managed 10assists in his first year so far, I believe he will settle down towards the end of this season and kick on next year with a full pre season behind him.

Would anyone be interested in taking a chance on James Milner on free transfer? I don't think it will happen but I think we could do much worse.

He gives his all, he is very versatile and is an all round decent player.

Believable1 Unbelievable10

{Ed002's Note - And the club has zero interest in him.}

10 Apr 2015 12:49:59
I won't want him . We are already packed with wingers . With Nani coming from loan next season with possibility of signing Depay , we would have Di Maria , Nani , Young , Depay , Januzaj and may be Bale ( it is possible he can join us ) which leaves us with no place for him.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Apr 2015 13:29:11
Milner chose City over us when he left Villa.
I can't see him joining us. Don't really think a former Leeds united and city player would come.
He is more than just a winger. He plays CM, he can play as CF. An attacking midfielder and has also played full back.
Haven't read anything in the papers but I'd bet on Chelsea or Arsenal signing him.
Can't doubt his quality and given English players are at a premium.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Apr 2015 14:57:19
At Villa he looked like he could become a decent cm. But after years as a spare body at City, he isn't anything more than a useful player to have on the bench. Not good enough to be first choice, too much wages to sign for the bench.

10 Apr 2015 15:37:54
NO! why even suggest such a signing lol

10 Apr 2015 22:05:53
One of the worst players I've ever seen pull on an England shirt. Wouldn't have him if he offered to play for free.

Agree4 Disagree2

11 Apr 2015 00:50:39
One of the worst players? Do we all watch the same games? Milner is good player. Very hardworking and very adaptable.

Agree2 Disagree4

11 Apr 2015 07:57:19
Milner is a good adaptable player but for me would be a blocker on any youth coming through. Milner isn't top class and could block a Pereira type of player coming through. We need to aim at the top level of player to improve and Milner is not ione so I would pass on him.

Agree2 Disagree0

11 Apr 2015 13:35:29
I don't think UTD are interested in Milner at all nor would I sign him if I was in charge but come on guys? Milner's a very good player imo vastly underrated as well, probably the most underrated English player ever! lol (especially as English players are usually overrated).

Agree0 Disagree2

11 Apr 2015 13:50:39
I actually like Milner, I feel he us undervalued for city because they lack players with a bit of heart and good work ethic and he gives 100% for them each time, but UTD do not need James Milner even as a squad player, I believe we need players with better technical abilities.

All he has is work rate. Great if your playing a defensive or counter attacking game.

Really hoping we don't lose De Gea but for some reason it feels inevitable. For me the only keeper I would want to replace him should he leave barring obvs courtois and Neuer as unattainable, is Hugo Lloris! Really rate the lad. Only problems is Levy is hard work and would sell to us anyway. Give De Gea what he wants and get him tied down.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

10 Apr 2015 08:09:44
I also think we will lose De Gea but maybe not to the season after next. I think he may sign a contract but have some sort of 'Gentlemans agreement' with United that if Madrid come calling for the right money he may move on. Having said that if we failed to cement CL football he would have moved on in July.

I think Lloris isn't a possible candidate simply because of Levy. He is the type of guy who will sell him to us but at an over inflated sum. He is the type of guy who would rather shift him abroad for a reduced fee than let us have him at a reasonable price. I still think Valdes can step up for a season or so and then we can review who's availabile in the market.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The absolutely certainly won't be a "gentleman's agreement" about what happens in two years time with Real Madrid. Zero chance.}

10 Apr 2015 08:56:26
This season I think De Gea has been the best keeper in the world, however, if we lose him for a big fee and replace him with Valdes then use those funds to buy a world class centre back, I believe we'd be in a better position. There's would be a bigger benefit in gaining a top class defender than the negative of losing De Gea and replacing with Valdes.

The ideal situation if he were to go is if we could give Real Madrid De Gea plus cash for Bale. That's never going to happen though.

I too think Begovic has been good for a lot of seasons now. Would come at the same price as we signed De Gea for.
We would not be in a better position rjunited. He is settled and performing exceptionally. It would shake up the defense even if he sign 2 WC centre backs.
Valdes is hugely over rated. If he is our first choice next season, pray to God.

10 Apr 2015 14:36:34
Ed002 have I misunderstood your response above regarding a "gentlemans agreement". You make reference to in two years time. Does De Gea's contract not expire next summer, I.e in just over 12 months. Maybe I am reaching here, but are you implying there has been progress on the contract extension that will see him stay another 2 seasons then go?

Not trying to put words in your mouth. Just hoping we are tying down our best player and ensuring we get a decent return when he heads home.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, the original post was complete nonsense about him signing an extension and some sort of agreement about Real Madrid in two years time. It was just rubbish, and nothing more.}

10 Apr 2015 16:15:32
If De Gea was to leave, I think Matthew Ryan would be a good shout.

There have been a lot of developments wry to new stadiums and stadium expansions in London and I was wondering what the future plans are for Old Trafford Ed? I know there were talks of expanding the stand over the railway station but wondered what the situation is with that now, whether it's economically and/or legally feasible to do?
Cheers

{Ed002's Note - I was there a few weeks ago and I understand there are no major changes intended - however my own view is many of the facilities I saw could do with an upgrade and the reception and office areas look like the furniture came from Ikea or somewhere equally as dreadful.}

10 Apr 2015 08:13:07
What about the Stadia name Ed? With clubs like Arsenal, City doing it and even Madrid and Liverpool (from what a friend told me) considering about generating extra funds through the outsourcing of the stadium name, has that been discussed at any level within the club?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It was discussed with one of the major sponsors a couple of years ago but the club were not keen - settling on selling the rights to the training facility. There was also a discussion with Nike as part of a much larger deal but the board again were against it. Under these owners I am pretty sure it won't happen. Thereafter it depends on who takes ownership.}

10 Apr 2015 08:56:05
Furniture from IKEA? Ed, are you really Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I had to Google him but I am not so sure that Larry Llewelyn-Bowen has taste in line with mine but he could almost certainly do a lot better than whoever put in what appears to be cheap flat-packed tat that Manchester United have at their offices in Old Trafford. It is poorly decorated and all of the fixtures are clearly from somewhere like Homebase. I had not been there for a year and was surprised some of it had lasted that long without needing replacement.}

10 Apr 2015 17:27:28
Well, that's me looking sheepishly at my homebase furniture, now :(

{Ed007's Note - I think this thread puts the talk about whether Ed002 is male or female firmly to bed now.}
