I read this site every day. It's bloody good. I have come to accept that united don't buy big in january; ferguson is too stubborn. Interestingly the editors on this site keep saying we might have additions to the squad this January; I'd love this to be the case but I believe in a synical fashion that they do it to keep people coming back to the site. Fair play it works but there is simple no need; let be honest, sadly no signings this window....Roland {Ed007's Note - Cynical or not I can assure you we do not do that. We have no need to.}

I was aware MUFCs spending over the last 20 years was lower than chelsea, man city, liverpool and spurs, but just reading recently the net spend over the last 5 years is lower than even sunderlands and stoke citys totally drove home how this great club is being crushed under the weight of King Troll Glazer and his Troll princes. This is the biggest club in the world, and it's an insane state of affairs. Any fan do what they can to end this regime from its current stranglehold.

Just want to air my frustration at our lack lustre team. Sorry chaps but surely the writing is on the wall here for a centre mid? Maybe even two?! We don't need a right back, we don't need a left winger, all this talk about Eriksson and Shaquiri just irritates me caus it's not even practical. It has to be Sneijder, Modric, hell I'd even settle for Gotze. WE MUST SIGN A CENTRE MID, Syd/Eds agree? I Have heard nothing though about us transfer wise!

Everyone is throwing around the Martinez, Ozil, Gotze rumours etc, but i think the player that SAF wants is none of those. For me it is Bale, and here is why.

- Bale would be Giggs long term replacement.

- He can play left, right and has recently exelled in the middle.

- He's only 21 so has a very long career ahead of him.

- He is British.

- We have been interested in him for many years.

For me Redknapp is the number 1 choice for the England job, so i think this would make Bale's departure more likely. Furthermore SAF has historically liked a solid central midfield with expressive wingers, Bale is certainly a creative winger with an eye for goal. He is proven and would be a sound investment with very little risk.

He could also be Evra's replacement, if Evra takes him under his wing a bit and helps him out defensively positiong wise then i think he would be a fabulous left back for us. I'm sure one of the ed's will agree with me on this.

To stiffen up central midfield the player SAF wants is Rodwell for me, or he doesn't buy a midfielder and lets Jones play there. Instead he buys a center back who has experience. That will all depend on Fletcher's recovery i feel.

Potential line up:

--------------De Gea---------------

Smalling --Ferdinand---Vidic----Evra

Nani ----Anderson ----Cleverly --Bale

-------------Rooney---------------

------------Hernandez-------------

I must say i hope that the Demba Ba rumours would become true, he looks exceptional as long as he can stay injury free. At under 10 million he is a bargain.

Just thinking of something that could be an interesting debate, say that the players we had earmarked as wanting were Ozil and Gotze, out of both who would you want?

For me it'd be Ozil as he is proven and his quality is well known. Gotze may turn out good but is a much greater risk.

So guys, which one would you have? Or who would you have instead? Eriksen maybe?

If you look towards the summer would people be happy with this:

Sign:

Ozil
Rodwell
Ba

I think thats the best that we can hope for. As Shappy said earlier our creativity largely comes from the wings, and to be honest Cleverly is creative anyway. SAF is stubborn and will continue in this style and be successful in doing so.

Just a thought lads, does anyone else think that the appointment of Mark Hughes fot QPR could really benefit Macheda? I reckon working under Sparky could really fire Macheda up. I hope so because I really want him to succeed at United but feel if he doesn't do it at QPR then he will more then likely be off in the summer.

If everyone is fit at united squad, i dont think there is room for anyone,...only one quality CM is needed thats it.

May be a last minute bid of £32M would test Levy,...or else we`ll see him in summer.

I notice that posts about Nathaniel Clyne has slowed the further we move away from the Palace game - I wish this weren't the case.

The lad has always looked like a real talent, I thought for ages he would end up at Arsenal, he looks the sort that Wenger would snap up. Though he hasn't.

He is only getting better - racked up over 100 appearances for Palace now, been in the first team for over three years. Only 20 years old, loads of pace.

Check this out:

2009 & 2010 he was Palace's young player of the year.

2011 he was Palace's player of the year.

This season he was voted October's Championship player of the month.

He would be a great replacement for Neville I think.

What do you lot think of him..?

And there u have it! The tackle was thoroughly reviewed and the FA have agreed that the ref made the right decision! The second you leave the ground with both feet, you are not in control, it's reckless and dangerous.
You leave the ground with a 2 foot tackle = Red card fact.
So what I would like to ask everyone is if say for instance Nani did not react quick enough n didnt jump out the way and it happened that he got seriously injured then would u people that originally disagreed with the decision agree with it?

Right now someone the other day was bemoaning the lack of tactical discussion on here, i think it was J Bones(apoligies if i'm wrong). So here is my view on the tactic deployed by our team and where i think we should go with future tactics.

Traditionally under Sir Alex we've used a 442 system mostly. This has always been reliant on wingers such as Giggs Beckham Ronaldo Valencia and Nani to stretch the play and create where as our centre midfield has always been more reliant on work rate than guile with players like Robson Ince Keane Butt Carrick Fletcher ect with the one exception in Scholes(although he was never shyed away from the work required ala a "Scholes tackle") this has been the platform of our success through the 90's and the 00's. But times have changed and so has football, it's not about ridged positioning but about movement and pocession now. We've always been a team who break quickley and work on the counter attack, draw players out then use pace to get in behind them and score. How many times have you heard our approach to the game as Cavalier?

Recently we've been playing more as a 4411 as this suits Rooney better, i don't feel he's quite right for midfield but he offers more than just being a striker. This position just off the main striker allows Wayne to drop off and find space and allows him to dictate our attacking play much more easily while still maintaining a goal threat. But the main issue for me is this line up still has wingers who by trade will lose the ball thus losing pocession. Only Bayern out of all the other tradional "big guns" of europe use wingers but even they are moving away from it.

So what formation should we use? well 4321 is too narrow and wouldn't suit the players we have at our disposal. 5212 could be an option with the full backs providing width with two box to box type midfielders sitting infront of a back three pushing forward to press play then have Rooney dropping off of a front two giving him options infront to play in. My only problem with this type of formation is it is a drastic change and there are several players in our squad who would have no place in this formation(park nani valencia young) so maybe such a big change isn't a good idea. 433 is an option but it is reliant on wide forward players who keep the ball better than wingers, it also needs three good midfielders and we may struggle to find three in our current squad.

So what i propose is 4231, now i know i'm not the first to surgest this formation and you could argue we sometime line up abit like this. In fairness that is why i think this is the best system to use as it's not too different to what we've use atm so transistion into this should be easier and smoother than any other formation change which would be drastic. But this is where i think it should be different i think we should line up like this:

____________DDG
Rafa___Smalling__Vidic___Evra
________Carrick__Jones
_Cleverley__Rooney__Anderson
__________Welbeck

Notice that i've taken out players like Valencia Nani and Young as these type of players lose the ball too much and with Cleverley and Anderson in their place we have ball playing players who can keep the ball thus making this a much better team at keeping the ball and harder to score against. Welbeck creates space for Cleverley Anderson and Rooney to work in and with Anderson returned to his best position hopefully we'll see the best of him. We can still have Nani Valencia and Young on the bench who could be brought on if we are chacing a game, say if you take off Carrick and Jones move Cleverley and Anderson back and have two of the wingers either side of Rooney to make it a much more ambitious line up. This formation would allow us to slowly transform and modernise the way we play and hopefully elivate us to the level of Barcelona and put us back on the european map. I think we'd need strengthening in a few places to add depth and quailty to this line up. An attack minded midfielder to add competition to Cleverley and Anderson, A more defence minded midfielder to add to Carrick and Jones, and a left back to replace the always "MIA" Evra although long term players like Morrison Pogba and Fryers will be coming into these positions. If money was no object i'd like to see Schmelzer Martinez and Ozil come in for these positions but more realistic targets might be Izaguirre Rodwell and Kagawa.

Let me know what you guys think.

accurate AF is keeping Giggs on and now
persuading Scholes to help out and even their
most fervent admirers would have to admit
that they are no longer first team quality AND
if they ARE
that just shows how weak AF has allowed the
team/squad to become. Once or twice I have

Who do people realistically wanna see signed in the summer? Say 3 first team players and 2 youth players(under 20) who would you like to see?

For me i'd like:

Marcel Schmelzer
Yann M'Vila
Gaston Ramirez

with youth players

Mateo Kovacic
Erick Torres

all could be got for less than 60m and with a few sales we could easily bring the net spend down to less than 30m.

To me seeing Scholesy return Sunday was confirmation that we won't sign anyone of any reputation this window. I think we will need to sell a few faces in summer to be able to improve the quality of the starting 11 players. We have a lot of potential youth and some older class, but that can no longer compete with the money now floating around in the Prem.
The signings this summer could determine our standing for some years. Hopefully the saving in this window is because SAF wants to set up the team before he leaves in a few seasons time. Who will come in is beyond me at the moment.

Anybody follow Ligue 1 this season? Any update on Moussa Sissoko and Yann M'Vila, the 2 french league midfielders most mentioned in these pages. How do they compare to Javi Martinez? It really annoys me when I hear the 'no value in the market place' when players like these are probably available at the right price.
Anyway, anybody have any up-to-date info on the players, any comparisons, favourites?
I said at the start of the season if we got Goetze and M'Vila I would be happy. I still think that Goetze and Cleverly together in a midfield 3 would be outstanding. I'm slightly starting to favour Martinez due to the huge ammount of favourible posts and reports regarding him, but him or M'Vila behind those 2 would be incredible. Get Hazard and a left back and we would be unstoppable.
DDG.
Jones Smalling Vidic Fryers
Martinez
Cleverly Goetze
Nani Hazard
Rooney

Why couldn't we have a team like this?

Sell/retire - Giggs, Scholes, Berb, Owen, Macheda, Diouf, Evra, Fletcher, Park, Gibson, DeLaet, Bebe, Anderson, Ferdinand and Valencia. This would raise a lot of money and reduce wages dramatically. The newcomers would provide a huge lift to the remaining players and fans. We would greatly reduce the average age of the squad which does reduce experience but makes up for this with drive and freshness and energy.
Thoughts anyone, Ed's?

for those who haven't seen it or those who want to see it again.

Then read this, a direct quote from the laws of the game from FIFA.

"Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play"

This proves that under the letter of the law Kompany SHOULD be sent off.

tbir.

Thats mean giggs also SHOULD be sent off because he also made a dangerous tackle.even Sydney admit he make a tackle from the side. (09 Jan 2012 15:06:40 - First of all Giggs tackled Aguero from the side, not from behind.)

i feel another frustrating summer as well though, only players i can see coming in will be Rodwell and a young striker probably for the future not an established name. we might go and buy a versatile full back as well for cover on both sides.

I hv always believed that Asian signings in Europe pay off because of the commitment these guys carry. They are much less arrogant & hardworking. Takashi Usami in Bayern I think would be a good signing for Utd as he is still young and could be a good replacement for Park. To make things clear, I'm don't mean offence to anyone reading this. This is just my point of view, i'm sure there will be some who agree and some who won't. So don't take it personally.

Not been on the site for a few days so I don't know if this has already been covered.
I read a tweet from Gary Neville the other day saying Spain are looking to increase the income tax rate from 24% to 54% for foreign players.
Surely this would have had been part of Ronaldo's decision to leave, and us failing to land our targets such as Benzema, Ozil & Sanchez.
Not suggesting we will land any of the above or get Ronnie back but it may help landing future targets having a level playing field, Gotze for example.

JUST AN OPINION GUYS
i think we need to sell rooney, he needs a fresh start and wil bring us 60-70 mil of profit , plus we need to sell anderson for 10 -15 mil, gibson and evans. that wil give us some cash , plus i hope we will be able to secure extra 20-25 from deals and selling shares/ so , hopefully we will have around 100 mil to spend
we should buy m'villa( 25 mil), martinez(27) , ericksen ( (20)because we can't afford goetze , cheap cb (like samba, or collochini(10 ), and cheap striker (8-10 mil ,like ba ) so we will have

Totally agree with u Jono some ppl here r deluded, if madrid were ever to sell ronaldo, city would get him and they wudn't mind shellin 300/400k a week for him, also no chance madrid signd him with a clause where he can buy him back. Respect wise do yu think ronaldo if asked if hed come bak to united? wud he say no never footballers r always vague to protect themselves, if he says yes automatically the next day all the news papers would be cristiano future indoubt, and if he says no all of us wud be callin him a w**ker so for those reasons footballers give vague answers like you never know. Also if ronaldo is to be sold now madrid wud never sell him hes priceless he is the worlds joint best player hes a totally different level from rooney. he has 112 goals in a 114 apps in two and half seasons he like messi probably has a billion euro clause in his contract. Even with the taxes madrid will increase his wages cos he makes them money with his image and advertising. ppl here saying he gets heckld by a small portion of the fans for every hater he probably has 10 fans, and ronaldo didnt become a superstar by givin up when small groups of ppl boo him, sure there was a time not long ago where every club in england would boo cristiano and it did not affect him at all. NO CHANCE of him cumin bak only way is if hes 35 playin in la galaxy and we get him for a loan for a few weeks is the only way will see him in a red shirt again.

***Just in from Reuters*** :
Champion for the Elderly, Paul Scholes, was back to his unassuming work for good causes today after his comeback match for the Red Devils on Sunday.
He went on a whirlwind tour around Manchester, first to Olham W.I. to judge 'best home-made Apple Turnover' (won by Mrs Ada Gibbins).
A clearly delighted Ada later said that this was the second year in a row she'd been succesful. Her turnover for Wayne Rooney had also been very well received.
This was then followed by a dash to Wythenshawe's 'All Comers Giant Marrow Competition'.
This was won by a gentleman who would only give his name as Sydney who, when asked about the secret of his success, would only mutter about having a good supply of horsesh1t to spread.
For his kind efforts, Mr Scholes was presented with a family size bag of Wurther's Originals and a new Self-heating Truss by The Mayor of Oldham.
