Just mulling over some old videos of Utd games, and just to while away the time during the international break, thought I'd ask what your favourite player performance has been since you started supporting the club.

Mine isn't very original, but Roy Keane in the 99 Champions league semi-final is, in my view, the single most inspirational individual performance I think I've ever seen on a football pitch.

100% agree Stevie I read the question and my mind went straight there.

Possibly the most complete individual performance I've ever seen.

Hard to look past that performance from Keane.

Schmeichel against Newcastle at St James Park. Save after incredible save and then up pops Cantona for the winner. Think that was 1996.

1984, Barcelona at home, Cup Winners Cup, lost the first leg 2-0, Maradona, Schuster and co meant we were given no chance. Ask anyone who was there that night and there hasn’t been anything quite like it and Robson dragged us over the line. Carried off the pitch on the shoulders of the fans. Watch the video, turn the sound up, I still remember Stapleton scoring the third from where I was standing right in line with him on the Stretford End. Those days there was a crush when we scored, not much touched that night and Robson’s performance.

What came close? Cantona in 96, Schmeichel away to Newcastle in 96, Keane at Juventus in 99, Rooneys debut v Fernabace plus several Ronaldo games in 2009.

Both of them would be in my top 3 hoggy. robson v barcelona at old trafford would be the third. Was it 84? They are the stand outs for me.
Good question stevie.

Keano is head and shoulders above but though not one particular game, Cantona seemingly series of goals in our 1-0 wins I alwys think about. Eric really stepped us and everyone around him up a level.

Rooney debut is a great shout redman. Hat trick after his metatarcel injury was some way to enter the stage included a great free kick i think.

All good shouts but I do like robbo’s Performance against the scousers Maine rd 85 replay. No better player than captain marvel.

Yeah, Robbo against Barcelona was up there with the best of them. I think Keane's edges it for me because of the circumstances. On a yellow, knowing he'd miss the final, but still summoning up the drive and passion to get us over the line. What a year that was. So many defining moments.

Mine has to be scoles and Carrick and there combined display when we thrashed Roma it was one of the best midfield partners display I think I have ever seen they ripped Roma apart!

Forgot about Barcelona in 1984.

A great game. Think the Stretford End sucked in the 3rd goal.

These games are what being a Utd supporter is all about.
The team sometimes have a mountain to climb but never give up and have a go no matter who the opposition is!

United 4 - 3 Real Madrid

Admittedly we ended up losing on aggregate but 2 great attacking teams, the United fans giving Ronaldo a standing ovation, Becks with a point to prove. Just a wonderful advert for Champions League football. Also really enjoyed a few of the clashes with Arsenal.

Surely it has to be John O'Shea in the 4-0 win against Spurs in 2007?

Absolutely stunning performance, one of the few times I was lost for words. Lol.

off the topic if jose.

do any of the eds know if we are planning renewing any of the contracts of the players that have a year left to go.

thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The club will look to renew De Gea's contract without doubt, Shaw and Mata as well I would think. There will be options on others but the club cannot use them to profiteer - but if the club is to bring players in then they need players to leave so the likes of Jones and Smalling should head that list. But everything now will revolve around the mess the club finds itself in. Mr Mourinho wants changes made in January and for that to happen space needs to be made. But the witch hunt continues from one newspaper with the support of the toxics.}

Let jose sort it out ed002 in my opinion. Sure he has not helped himself on many levels but i'd rather stick with him through this transition.

Agree4 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - I would agree but the issue remains of support being provided by the club for what would be a significant financial outlay.}

10 Oct 2018 13:47:58
Ken i would agree with you about sticking with the manager and letting him make these long term decisions but is that really sensible when considering mourinhos unstable situation.

Tough question Dsg.
Its quite obvious to me and has been for some time that moving on some players from our squad is a complete necessity.
We have 6 to 8 players in our squad tying up wages that make no contribution and they need to be moved so that we can reinvest that money in players that can perform at a higher level.

Article from Independent’s Miguel Delaney (has decent track record for accuracy) about DoF links to Juventus:

Im pretty sure ED002 mentioned something about Patarici not happening.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - What I said a couple of weeks ago was "I previously named a wildcard option from Juventus who might just be available (but that may not be clear for a little over three weeks and right now I think I understand well what will happen there), Fabio Paratici." It is all down to what is announced on October 25 and any information that comes out before hand - but right now Juventus know what they want but have so far been able to agree it. The "senior negogiator" they approached has said no to them (as well as Barcelona) and they will now split a role previously occupied by one person.}

10 Oct 2018 21:08:17
Hi Ed,
I recall about 2 weeks ago you posted along the line of Jose having suggested two people for the DoF role (one was the ex Athletico DoF if i recall) . was Patarici the other name Jose recommended?

I think you may have also mentioned that the DoF will have to assess whether to continue with Jose and identify targets that will work for him/ his system or identify a different direction for the club. Do you know Patarici's preference and do you think he would be a good appointment for the club?

Thanks in advance!

{Ed002's Note - The two folks that Mr Mourinho was cool with were Andrea Berta and Luis Campo.}
