Alot of rumours that Vidic may come back in january. I think he would be a great quickfix. He knows all about the club, he has a lot of experience and he would go straight into the team. He would not be a long term, but until the end of the season?

He has not made an impact at Inter, but i think cause of a new league, new language and that he played in the same team for so long. I would think he is a better choice even than Vlaar, as a short term.

Of course would we be able to sign Hummels, Godin etc etc it would be another case, but unlikely they will come in january.

What you guys think?

There was a reason why we didn't put up much of a fight to keep him when it was clear he could be going, vidic's age has caught up with him. Great player for us but I think it's just lazy stories or even his agent trying to float the idea.

I wouldn't hold your breath on it happening mate.

I hope we do not buy anyone as a "quick fix", especially when the club has been and is continuing to look to sell surplus players. I don't see how Vlaar or Vidic would help the current situation because we are not able to have a consistent defensive line that can gel together. Any defensive purchases the club does going forward, should have a long term outlook in my opinion

Agree2 Disagree0

I'm with Chris, we need to know when to let players go and I think we got it right with Vidic.

I agree we got it spot on when we got rid of him. The whole story makes absolute zero sense and I imagine was written so that the press could write this that I read this morning.

'Manchester United Transfer News: Blow for Van Gaal as Agent Rules Out January Move for Defender'

The press love to make something up and then call it a 'blow' when it doesn't happen. I am sure LVG isn't that bothered that we can't re-sign a player that isn't better than the players we have and proved that for 2 years.

Agree0 Disagree1

He screwed us having pictures done signing for Inter whilst still our captain he couldn't leave quick enough now he's made to look crap he wants back
He's past it by 1-2 years let him keep his 3 year contract at Inter

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Dec 2014 15:30:54
Vidic is finished in the EPL and was 12 moths ago
He should have been stripped of the captaincy when he signed for Inter while contracted to us.
No way back for him IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just let go, he was slowing down two years ago and while he's a great leader, the time has passsed him now.
Let's concentrate on getting someone for the future.

Hi Eds and other fans
Long time reader, first time poster. I thoroughly enjoy reading all the banter on this site and it offers much needed at work.
I hope LVG starts Falcao up top alongside RVP with Rooney playing behind them. Having watched the Basel game, I am sure Liverpool's unsettled defense will give our strikers lot of scoring opportunities and this will give Falcao much needed confidence if he can convert them into goal(s). We should start with a midfield diamond of carrick, herrera, di maria (if fit) and Rooney and move to a 4-2-3-1 if things do not go as planned.
Result will depend on which defense commits fewer but we have a big advantage over them in the form of Dave "the save" De Gea.
Thank you Eds for all the good work and insights into what happens behind the scenes.

Welcome to the mad house bud. I hope u enjoy your stay

Agree2 Disagree0

Welcome Detroit

I feel Liverpool will play like a European away leg, a little like Madrid away, pack midfield use pace on the break, possibly even go with Sterling as a sole forward looking to use his pace. They have controlled midfield in these games all too often in the past so if we go with two up and Rooney off we may be too open and lack control. Control midfield control the game score first would be my thoughts

Welcome Detroit. Good ost but I really think we need to leave Rooney up front. I know we would all like to see RVP, Falcao and Rooney I'm the same team but I can't see how it works. Of course, I will be happy to be proved wrong!

GDS, you mean Footpath don't you?

Agree1 Disagree0

Welcome Detroit. I don't think we can go gung ho at the scousers, they have players who are very quick and can hurt us. So I think start with Rooney and rvp and four in midfield to counter Liverpool strengths and then falcao can be introduced if we need him or if we're winning by a margin.
I think its going to be a very cagey affair.

I just popped over the the Liverpool site for a bit of a laugh and it really did cheer me up. They are in meltdown and a manager who was world class 4 months ago is now 'that man in charge' and 'useless' and many other things. They have turned on the manager quicker than my Mrs turns on me when I stay out late, and it is fantastic to see. I imagine that must have been what it was like for them coming on here last season watching many people slagging off the manager at any opportunity.

I also noticed AJH had popped over there and asked them what they thought the result would be on Sunday and every single one of them thinks they will lose, mainly ignoring everything AJH asked about United and just laying into how bad their own team is.

So, as I imagine none of them will be on here (unless they beat us on Sunday then we will suddenly see loads of them) what do we all think about Sunday? The fans have turned on Liverpool, but a win at Old Trafford for them and the fickle lot will all turn again. Are the Liverpool fans just saying they think they will lose to soften the blow if they actually do?

I am hoping we do to them what they did to us last year and annihilate them putting another nail into Rodgers coffin, but I think it may be a tight game. Like for Liverpool, a big win for us on Sunday would give us a shed load of confidence going into a tricky Christmas period, and there is something so so sweet about beating them lot.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

We need to retaliate for last season . I hope we don't give away any penalties or red cards! Otherwise i think we will trash them!

Gds2, I've been on here lately, and you cannot really blame us for slating rogers at the moment.he looks clueless, just look at his recent team selections, especially against basle in a game they had to win he had no strikers on the bench and ended up with skrtel up front, mignolet is dodgy, and Johnson, skrtel
And Enrique are all a liability.he has spent over 100 million in summer and hardly plays the signings he made.so all in all you must be favourites this weekend and if we do win by some miracle I can't honestly see loads of people proclaiming rogers is back, let's face it we are just coming to realise just how good Suarez was for us.

11 Dec 2014 17:28:50
Fair play Rob, I have seen you on here mate and I nearly mentioned that in my post.

We cannot blame some people for slating Rodgers but last season when you all thought he was the best thing since sliced break and we all said he wasn't you all got very defensive.

Agree2 Disagree1

I as surprised how negative they all were about their chances. Anything can happen in these games but their confidence appears to have gone completely.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Dec 2014 20:47:20
They have as much confidence as we had last season, both fans and players. Its the absolute best time to have this match, but then again you never know about these games. BR must be the best example how fast things change in the game.

Agree1 Disagree0

Agree ajh. This will be a tight game make no mistake.
I hope we're "brave" and have a go at them. Basel did and got plenty of joy. Carrick, Herrera, di maria and fellaini in midfield and Rooney rvp at top. Have a go at them.

Two shaky defences, one good attack. I hope to God this doesn't come back and bite me on the bum, but I'm more confident for this weekend, than I have been in these games for a while.

Two rumours in particular have caught my eye, firstly Robben. Is he a possibility and would he be a good addition?

Secondly, Zenit need to cash in on Hulk, Garay and Witsel - Would Garay not be a very sensible move to pair with Argentinian team mate Rojo?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I don't know why Robben would leave Bayern Munich right now, I have mixed feelings about him. He is a world class attacker, but also selfish and not the classiest player.

As far as Zenit, I think Garay is a very good player, and good point about working with Rojo. Witsel is a decent player but he may be overpriced.

Agree3 Disagree0

Garay makes a lot of sense to me, we need defensive reinforcements and he has good experience and is very tough at the back.

I would also consider Witsel as a midfield addition. Although he seems to see red at time but he is most certainly and upgrade on Fellaini (His leading with the elbow will be punished sooner rather than later)

Agree2 Disagree0

11 Dec 2014 15:47:08
Right let's sign a 30 year old who even at a younger age hardly did well in the premier league.

Not worth going anywhere near! Would be easily £20 million+ and also his wages will be substantial. Robben will be looking for one last big pay day when he leaves and I hope to god we steer well clear. Much better and younger players out there for only a little more money and a lot less wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

Robben's record in the EPL is by no means bad and it led to a transfer to Real Madrid. You can't knock what he has done. For a mid £20 million mark and to play on our right side he would be very good I'd say. Bayern seem to want Reus so Robben or Ribery will have to go.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Dec 2014 17:45:46
Im honestly shocked by these replies. Robben is one of the best players in the world. He would single handedly win games for us if he joined but sadly i don't see Bayern wanting to sell.

Agree2 Disagree1

Ozzy, totally agree. I have no clue where these guys are coming from! Too selfish? Are you kidding me? Nor worth the money? What? Not done well in premiership? Madness.
If robben is signed, we will win the league next year, period.

Agree4 Disagree1

11 Dec 2014 21:48:28
Sorry, NM, but we need a bit more than Robben.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Dec 2014 08:00:59
Fresh i never said it was bad just not good. And that was him at a younger age.

Hernandez had a crap season last season, still it earned him a move to Madrid. But that's different right?

Why pay for a 30 year old left footed winger when we have other areas needing strengthened first. Robben is not even a luxury buy it's a panic buy. Let's throw 20+ mill at Bayern and get an overrated old winger. Makes absolutely no sense. Good player when he wants to be but doesn't warrant the price tag they will want at his age or even wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

I will never understand why we never signed garay.

Hi Eds, all, hope everyone is well in the build up to Christmas.
Just wanted to offer my thoughts on our start to the season, I really am very pleased.
Firstly, Fellani. The £28million flop of the decade is playing with confidence and making a difference for us. LVG can take credit for this especially when you consider DM brought him and arguably would have known him much much better as a player than LVG due to Everton link etc.
Secondly, Rooney. I remember the negativity being shown towards him over the Summer and the thoughts of some that he was a waste of space etc. He looks to me like a complete player who is scoring goals, the captaincy has helped and for England is also doing the business.
Thirdly, Falcao. If you told me 18 months ago that we would get this man on an initial loan deal for £6million with a view to a permanent move then I would have bitten your arm off. I guarantee once he gets up to match fitness he will make Costa look like Torres.
Fourthly, injuries. Despite what anyone else thinks we have had a disaster when its come to player availability week by week. Look how injuries have damaged Arsenal's season, we are sitting third, and that brings me onto my next point.
Finally, league position. We are THIRD in the table. Our result at Southampton was lucky but this is more like the United of old, winning games when not at full strength. Both Chelsea and City have got managers that have been with their sides for at least 12 months and with no serious departures for either of course they should be 1 and 2. Liverpool lost one player and look at them.

Too much negativity from a lot of you at times guys but personally, I am so happy with LVG and the job that he is doing. Let's hope it continues.

hi everyone, ain't posted for a while but still read the site everyday . good to see the team going in the right direction, still work to be done but rome wasn't built in a day lol ;- . i'm just wondering what u guys ( and eds ) think is the reason why LVG isn't playing herrera regularly, every game I've seen him play i think he's bn superb, loads of energy, creative passing, gets stuck in, i think he's what we've bn missing for so long, seems strange that he isn't a regular starter, he should've started instead of mata monday . i think he's our best midfielder by far :-/ . thoughts guys

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I have been thinking the same thing. I'm just wondering if whether LVG see's him as being more of an advanced midfielder, perhaps that is why he isn't getting as much game time as Rooney and Mata have got that position.

Agree0 Disagree1

I think it's a possibility it's down to defensive injuries meaning we need more physical players

Agree2 Disagree0

Possibly pardoe, although why play mata if that's the case lol, i personally don't think he's better as an advanced midfielder fresh m8, and certainly not another number 10 lol we've got quite enough of them i think ;-) i just think he's being wasted at the minute, we look much more fluid when he plays, plus he's not afraid of a tackle either, and also he can pass the ball forward lol ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Get fellaini to well and then sell him and replace him with strootman. Then we have stroot herrera and di maria in midfield. Imagine how much fellainis price has rocketed in the last few months. Reckon we could get 20mil

Real Madrid, their form so far this season has been fantastic. 19 wins in a row is an outstanding achievement however I know the season is long and they have a long way to go yet, but their players just seem to be doing the business each week and Ronaldo is in astonishing form.

Hi all. Does anyone know if Di Maria is available on Sunday?

And what is your thoughts on the match? Judging by the Southampton and the Basel match, I don't think it will be a pretty game. Both teams will be afraid to loose, and considering last season, its so important for United to win (I'm not thinking about the points here).

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Neither team is playing pretty football and would expect nothing but a hard grind with few opportunities. We are much better upfront and that is what i believe will make the difference.

Without letting your heart cloud your vision - where do you THINK United would finish if they had a fully fit squad all year. Furthermore what positions do you think would need to be addressed in order to specifically win the title?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would of thought 3rd been realistic with a fully fit squad.
We lack class in central defence IMO, If we had bought a Hummels OR Godin OR both we may have been looking at 2nd.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Dec 2014 05:44:21
definitely top 3 with a fully fit squad and with better team performances.

positions we need to address are CB,Holding/box to box MF, right winger and a Right back.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Dec 2014 06:14:18
I totally agree with Herbie. To win the title I think we need 2 top class CBs, a RB, a DM and a winger reuse or bale caliber player.

Looking at that list it is a little depressing, but looking on the bright side we are in a better position than last year, moving in the right direction and we are half way through the rebuild.

Agree1 Disagree1

A top class right winger, centre back, right back.

I don't necessarily think we need a cm as an immediate requirement given what we have when healthy and what is coming through the ranks.

We are very one-sided when healthy and everything is down the left side, if we fix the right hand side. our strikers will score goals for fun.

Agree1 Disagree2

11 Dec 2014 09:39:39
I agree 3rd, and I think we may finish 3rd despite the injuries. We are a little short of the quality to win the league at the moment but we are half way through the rebuild as Huggy says. If we still lack the quality to win the league this time next year I will be disappointed though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Coleman, Reus and Varrane would be dream additions and make us CL contenders.

Agree0 Disagree0

3rd, if we don't get more injuries.
