My first time on hear but I agree with most of the comments saying WS will sign Every time I see a United player interviewed and asked about WS they all smile I am pretty confident this will all be resolved by the latest 21st we have made some quality signings this summer and after they way we dominated s**ty in the charity shield reinforces the feeling that with WS we can do even better this year

Forever UNITED

Let the carnage commence haha

I must admit to being slightly undecided about this wesley sneijder saga, as much as i'd like to see a dynamic and incisive midfielder in our ranks, I can't help but feel it would deflate the passion and energy shown be cleverly in pre-season. During the barca and city games we saw the one thing that is truly united. The managers faith in a young man, who had two successful loan spells, leaving both clubs with rave reviews in his ear, proved his desire to play for this club.

Understandably, the "experience of Europe" factor is something we all desire, but has this mattered before? Does Cleverly's position require this experience? Can he be better than Wesley Sneijder?

Why not? He may have had a poor U21 outing this summer, but how many of the top league performers do well in internationals? Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, all have won nothing at International level, nor have they wowed anyone with their performances.

It is imperative that we show faith in the youth, for that is where our past success has emanated, and just to cement my point, the fact we've had two testimonials in a year, from players who've played throughout our most successful period, who've loved this club, and devoted their entire playing career to this club, it's these players we want, desire, need

Alex Ferguson has a dilemma on his hands, to decide weather he needs immediate reinforcement or put his faith in youth, weather he needs a mercenary or a patriot. United's history is indicative of the latter, we've always had heroes who loved this club not those who simply wanted to play for us, or even those that just wanted silverware.

It is through legacy our faith is rewarded.

Has anyone else thought that with the squad numbers being decided that it brings up an interesting point? The only numbers left under 30 are 2, 22 and 26 so anyone signing now would have to take one of those numbers, which one strikes you as sneijders number? I would have thought that if any deal for him was likely then a more important or prestigious number may have been put aside for him. Obviously this doesn't rule a move out for him i just think it's interesting.

United are looking really strong, for domestic competition at least. In fact our squad looks terrific, There will be times this winter when we'll be forced to select a team without several 1st choices; De Gea, Smalling, Jones, Vidic, Fabio, Young, Cleverley, Carrick, Park, Berbatov & Welbeck. That is a pretty strong backup team, a team without Ferdinand, Evra, Nani, Valencia, Rooney & Chicharito. If we can add another central midfielder, an excellent passer, defensive or creative, either will do, then I see this squad competing on all 4 fronts again this season.

1) United
2) CIty
3) Chelsea
4) Arsenal

I don't think this sneijder deal is goin through anytime soon or even at all.Sneijder in ibiza for 5 days and will join up with inter afterwards and saf doesnt seem to b too bothered in trying to get a world class player in for the begining of the season
and keeps reiritating that we have a great squad lately,so that tells me hes not botheredas much as i love saf i have to disagree,in my opinion we have a good young squad, but not a great squadwe need that world class quality in midfieldwe have good potential in cleverly coming through, but cant c him being the answer, one years premier league experience with a medoker team and zero champions league experienceso you could hardly expect utd to rely on him.

Following up after the person who mentioned Joao Moutinho, he could be the answer United are looking for. It would be very smart on SAF and the papers would've never thought. Although, he seems to have a large price tag. That said, United and Sneijder thing is just pushing every1's nerves. Think of it as, United is the best rock band in the world that develops the best rockstars and Sneijder as it is already a rockstar so why do we need him? Let's go find the next rockstar..

Sick of Sneijder?

Mr Sneijder, it really is quite simple. Do you want to play for Manchester United and under Sir Alex Ferguson? Do you want to challenge in a competitive league and challenge for the Champions League each season? If yes, then simply ignore your agent, advisors or whoever the hell is involved bar you and sign on the dotted line, even for a paultry £150,000 per week (yes I know life can be hard). If no and you are more interested in satisfying your bank account and those of your advisor's, then either stay put in a sub standard league or join city or the russians for a bumper final payday.
Your choice. And also come out and put it to bed one way or another. Either way MUFC will continue and you can either join or watch what could of been

When Jones signed for United, SAF said they would be 2 more signings. When Young signed SAF said there would be 1 more. When De Gea signed, SAF said there would be no more signings.

Despite the papers saying that we're still in for Sneijder, I don't think Sneijder will be playing in a red jersey come August 31st.

If Cleverley can keep his game and play like he did against Man City last sunday... I don't think there's any need for Sneijder to join United. {Ed036's Note - Can you provide a link to an article stating that SAF said there would be no more signings?}

So guys, with Sneijder seemingly in the balance with no real clue over whether he will join or not, who does everyone think SAF will swoop for if it fails?

I do think he will sign someone, but I have no idea who.

You'd have to rule out Hamsik (too expensive), Goetze (Dortmund will never sell, not now they're in the Champs League). I can't think of anyone who's s Sneijder-esque midfielder that would be a) available and b) within our budget. I know our budget is probably around £30m?

RED_SKY {Ed036's Note - My guess would be no more signings. It's not like Fergie to buy alternatively if he can't get his main target, and Cleverley's performance on Sunday may be just enough to consolidate that.}

If Sneijder signs for Manchester United I will say ''good business Sir Alex.''

If he doesn't sign I will say ''good decision Sir Alex.''

My point is, there's no point debating whether he is worth the money, whether he will cause dressing room unrest, whether he will fit into the team, whether he is past it.

Once again the daily mail think they know all that is going on in OT. Last week they were 100% sure that Sneijder would be an official United player within a 48 hour time frame. But surprise surprise he has not been announced. The media has not got a clue about the inner workings of OT let alone the inner workings of SAF. So as I have said before the less we hear the better the chances we have of securing him. And one other thing why are people always asking ED and Syd for advice all they know is what everyone hears from the media or else it is common knowledge.

Anybody know where Rainfishtrombone is?
I'm sure he would have had another go at the Glazers, asking why the biggest club in the world cannot afford Sneijider's 'supposed' wage demands. The points made where people said it would upset the other players and their wages was dealt with by 'Jono's' reply to Herbie below. If Sneijider is the player we need to win Champions League then the money should have been available. The money was found for Rooney when he held the club to ransom. We were all led to believe then that there would be a huge injection of funds for SAF to buy, and pay for the best during this transfer window. Where is it???

Did I do RFT proud?

J Bones.

P.S. I personally never thought SAF would buy Sneijider (and neither would I), and I also agree wholeheartedly with Sydney's post earlier about greedy footballers.

Ok enough is enough

This transfer story has been sucked dry and its starting to become very irritating to the point where Im actually taking a disliking to him coming at all. The last thing united need is another primadonna who is really only interested in money, he should go to city with the rest of the overpaid/underachieving "stars". The guy is starting to come across as greedy and self absorbed and lets not forget - he was an absolute flop in spain and then goes to Inter where they have had the league sewn up in october every year bar last since 2005, such is the lack of quality and competition in that league, and now he wants to come to the biggest club in the world and demand to be paid more than the likes of Giggs, Scholes, Vidic and even Rooney, I mean seriously, we dont need that kind of egotistical nonsense from anyone especially someone who has failed at a lower level than the Premier League. I really think we should get someone like Nasri/Kagawa/Goetze as they are younger, hungrier and actually look like they have the potential to be better than Sneijder if the truth be told. Im not saying Sneijder is a bad player at all, Im just looking at things as a united fan and feel that we shouldnt be held to ransom for any player because we are the best club in the world and it should be an honour to play for this great team and not somewhere you go to make more money towards the end of your career. Hes a big fish in a very small pond in Serie A and I wouldnt be suprised if he failed in the english league because for every Zola theres been a Veron and I for one would not like to splash out on another failure of that magnitude again

all the websites and papers have been reporting that WS was about to sign any day soon for the past month and they were wrong.
Now they are reporting his not going to sign what makes anyone thing that they got it right this time.
look on united website it has a list of players linked to the club and how much they would cost ,its gone over £billion.
everybody see's something different in an interview but in america i thought fergy more or less said we tried for nasri we tried for sneijder but they dont look like coming.
i think he also said we wont buy for the sake of it which sounds a bit like there's nobody else out there he really thinks will improve us enough to be worth buying.
at the end of the day the squad we have got is more than good enough to win the league , so why buy another midefielder (when we have plenty of good young ones) unless there good enough to win us the euro cup.
one last thing if we dont sign any of the above i that fergy might play rooney as the lone striker and try either young or valencia behind him in europe.

now that the sneijder deal is off, heres hoping SAF makes a move for Javi Martinez of Athletic Bilbao. he was immense for Spain u-21s and has a better sell-on value than Sneijder, younger, two footed, good in the air and can be our next scholes for years to come

Does anyone remember the summer
when SAF was chasing Ronaldinho
from PSG.
Every other day the deal was nearly
done. The next day it wasn't etc.
All very similar to the Sneijder saga.
In the end Ronaldinho decided on
Barcelona.
United ending up buying an unknown
player by the name of Ronaldo.
So who knows what the future
holds

i have a question for everyone on the site, including Eds.

of the two main midfielders we have been linked with, who would you rather.....sneider or nasri?

i haven't included modric as he is chelsea bound, or any young players as they may come in with the signing of a 'world-class' midfielder.

personally, i would rather nasri. cost and wages aside, he has the premiership experience over sneider
and he is a game changer. when fabregas was injred last seasno, nasri was the only reason arsenal stayed at the top. his form only dipped when fabregas returned, as he was played out of position. i cant see why we'd rather let him go to city at all.

so if the rumours in the papers recently of no deal for sneider are true, and the fact that nasri isn't in the arsenal squad to face newcastle(along with fabregas) then mabye he could be OT bound?

just opinions people, and would love to hear some feed back on this topic

The thing i dont understand ed is that you and others are worried a player of wesley's quality cant adapt in our league. first of all he is expensive i understand and some people may worry he may turn out like veron but sneijder is 10 times the player he is. and all you need to do is watch him for inter 2 seasons ago when they won the treble or watch the performances he put in at the world cup. he was the driving force behind that team and he inspired them to the final. no i have NO doubt he would adapt in the prem because he is a 'world class' player who has performed at the very biggest stage. (world cup). and if scholes rates him then he must be half decent eh? also we have so many matches in the calendar and cleverley and anderson cant play all of them. plus having sneijder there will take the pressure of these two as i guarantee people are expecting them to be like xavi and iniesta this season and its going to be tough to even gain a patch on those two. cleverley will have some bad games and us fans need to recognise nobody is perfect and a player like sneijder is perfect for us. and money grabbing nasri would have been nice but money lures for some. anyway sneijder is one of the best in his position and he wants to come. hopefully we get over this hiccup over wages and we can greet our little dutch magician to the 'real' manchester. this guy will bring the buzz back to OT the same way ronaldo did at his time. he will also scare teams the way ronaldo did. people it just amazes me how some people on here are against going for him because he has had one bad season and is 27 ? its bonkers i agree kagawa and goetze are cheaper and going to be extremely talented but there is no guarantee they will succeed here as they have not gained enough experience. whereas wesley has played on the 2 biggest stages (world cup and champions league). now who in our squad has played in a world cup final ? my thoughts exactly so this guy is PERFECT for united. Thoughts?

@TK-red's earlier reply.

Ive been saying that for months and argued against "he would be in direct competition for Rooney's slot", "is only a CAM", "cant play in a 2 man CM", "game isn't suited to CM" etc, etc.

Lets face it even if we get him and he is good for us for 4/5 years there will still be people who in 1/2/3 years time will say we shouldn't have got WS but instead Gotze, Kagawa, Hamsik, Ganso or whoever.

Here is a thought. If you are Tom Cleverley, just spent a fair few years trying your heart out earning a new contract instead of being released as a youngster then seizing opportunities of loan deals to get game time when they arose. Doing well at Watford, stepped it up and did well at Wigan. Impressed that much SAF will keep him with the first team squad this season then.............. we go ahead and buy another wonderkid young CM like the ones mentioned above. How is he going to feel? Like the last 3 years he has been wasting his time no doubt.

A few are saying that's the way we should be going instead of WS so how on earth is signing a young CM not going to hinder our own (already promising) youngsters?? Having more inexperienced young players around them isn't going to teach them much is it?

Get WS in and let Tom, Pogba, Ravel, Tunners, Norwood etc learn from a guy who has done it all, won it all, got further in the WC than anyone else in the current team, exp different leagues, cultures, styles of play. Most of this nobody in our team can pass on. It will be a breath of fresh air to the squad, a new heartbeat to the team if Rooney is on an off day, a good role model for the youngsters to follow and most importantly an addition to the 1st team that will put fear into the opposition.

Cost doesn't concern me if we cant afford it we wouldn't be trying for him but if it will help i will gladly get his name and number on me and my son's new shirt to put my hard earned cash toward his wages.
