Apart from the grappling is there any other defence in europe you would put your life on to keep a clean sheet in a vital away game other then Juventus? Chiellini there best defender also missing, Juventus have one of the best keepers in the world, The best defence in europe and apart from Barca the best Midfield 3 in europe in Vidal Pirlo and Marchisio however there front 3 is far too pedestrian if you add someone like Alexis Sanchez up there with Llorente next year Juventus could well be the best side in Europe.

MANRED

Believable4 Unbelievable6

No matter how many quality strikers they buy, unless Juventus start using a more attaking formation, the UCl will still be a dream.

They play 3 at the bak, 2 attackingly average wingbacks, 1 deep lying playmaker and 2 box to box midfielders. And considering that Pirlo is 34 yos, they don't have any other creative midfielder/ attaking midfielder.

We have Nani, Valencia, Young, Kagawa and Rooney who play attacking roles, we also have the strikers. Juventus only have a couple of average strikers. But defensivly speaking they are a force to be reckoned with

Buffon is the best keeper in europe, better than casillas who's always benefitted by having strong teams in front of him. La signora could become a very good team.

Agree2 Disagree5

Manred I completely Agree.

The problem we have with many poster son this site is they only see football through united tinted glasses. Tonight is a big test for us and I am very pessimistic on the outcome and hoping it will not be an embarrassment.

I watched PSG lat night and they are also a very good side and winning the CL will take a special team.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree2

Mick

Machisio and Vidal are better than any of our midfielders and Pirlo is class. They need a couple of strikers and will be very good.

I am not saying good enough to win CL if they signed a couple of strikers given barca, real, bayern, psg but still good enough to knock out any of them over 2 legs.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

Shahram,

You have been telling us we will get battered by Madrid since the draw was made. It seems you would be happy if that happened just so you can say I told you so.

Is it united tinted glasses to be optimistic and know full well we will give Madrid a great game tonight. Going out to Madrid is no embarrassment but we are more than capable of getting through.

GDS

Agree3 Disagree0

GDS

I think Shahram means we will be dominated as we are all expecting and as a result we could see the tactics we have done well against Southampton and everton be picked apart by a far superior team in real. It's a good idea to defend away but with away goals so important I would rather a 2-1 loss than a 0-0 draw. So to play as deep as we have and randomly counter could easily end up with us getting penned in like the barca games and the counters amounting to nothing but possession loss.

So IMO he meant we could be battered in all areas but optimistic of a decent or positive score line.

Jono

Agree0 Disagree0

GDS

I am just being realistic and I am concerned because they are the type of team that can open you up and embarrass us. Sitting back and defending against teams like Everton and southampton works as you only worry about a couple of players and is a little bit different than defending against real.

I am hoping like everyone for a result and excited about the game but I wish we had drawn someone else.

I don't like to judge after just one performance, but I don't think Wanyama was anything special tonight. He was dominated by world class players. Not saying that he wouldn't perform better alonside better players, but on that performance I wouldn't swap him for Carrick, Jones or Cleverly.

Fresh! {Ed004's Note - I was surprised with his range of passing. He needs to add a bit of compusure and pass a bit quicker but other than that he has a tonne of potential}

Believable3 Unbelievable5

I'm with Ed4, he was a little sloppy at times but showed real promise for me at only 21 yrs old, we must remember. Some of his passing was more adventurous than what I was expecting from him.

Gav

Not United related but I thought Celtic were very unlucky. The Ref gave them nothing all night. Are they sure Conte isn't influancing referees again. Lol. But based on that performance I wouldn't be too worried about playing Juve IF we get into the quarter finals.

Also abit gutted that we are playing the same night as Dortmund. Ah well.

Shappy

Believable7 Unbelievable1

Completely agree, I'm amazed how Celtic lost 3 nil, Juve were largely woeful. United would beat them in the latter stages no question.

Patzi

Agree4 Disagree5

Was gutted for Celtic on the night. Shocking refereeing and 3 poor goals conceded after outplaying Juve for much of the game.

Gav

Agree4 Disagree2

I too feel a bit for Celtic, but you also have to realize that Juve's gameplan coming in was to absorb pressure and beat them on the counter. That's exactly what they did.
TomBomb

Agree0 Disagree0

Lots of huffing and puffing and passion by Celtic but poor when it came to the final 3rd. Very professional Juve performance given the occasion and the the venue. They will hammer them again in Turin.

Shahram

Agree3 Disagree0

Its a typical Scottish performance.

Played well against superior opposition and more than held our own to be undone by a f*** up or two and staring at elimination.

Overall IMO was a good forward playing show from Celtic just a pity commons right foot is for standing only ha and are very unlucky to be in that position.

On the subject of Mourinho.

Maybe he is mindfull of that Fergie will be retiring soon and doesn't want to be playing his usual mind games and rile the media into a frenzy that usually surrounds Mourinho. On another note it was strange to see Mourinho on MUTV. He does appear to be going an extra mile with this fixture and making more effort than usual. Making a good impression in front of the glazers?

A young mother was pushing her baby along the street in Manchester when suddenly a huge rottweiler dog lunged towards the pram, gnashing its teeth. The young woman thought for a moment that the dog would kill them when suddenly a man rushed over, wrestled with the rottweiler and broke it's neck with his bare hands.

Another man rushed to the scene and said, "I am a reporter and I saw everything that happened. Wait until I put the headline in my paper. It will read 'Manchester United fan saves baby from savage rottweiler!"

"No you can't write that!" replied the man.

"But why not?" said the reporter.

"Because I am not a Manchester United fan, that's why!" replied the man.

"Oh, okay then, " said the reporter, "I will write Manchester City supporter saves mother and baby from savage rottweiler!"

"You can't write that either, " said the man.

"Why not?" asked the reporter.

"Because I am a Liverpool fan!" replied the man.

"Oh I see, " said the reporter, "How about this then, 'Scouse ******* kills family pet!"

A man died and went to Heaven. After reaching the gates to Heaven the man was talking with Saint Peter and he asked, "I know I was good during my life, and I really appreciate being brought to Heaven, but I'm really curious. what does Hell look like?" So Saint Peter thought about it a moment and finally said, "I'll tell you what, I'll let you see what Hell looks like before you are officially entered into Heaven. Come with me. " And so Saint Peter lead the man to an elevator and said, "Take this elevator to the very bottom floor. When the door opens you will see what Hell looks like, but whatever you do, do not get out of the elevator. " The man said, "Thank you" and then climbed into the elevator and hit the button for the lowest floor. After nearly an hour waiting in the elevator the doors opened and the man peered out. Before him was a lifeless, frozen wasteland. All the man could see were huge mountains of ice through blankets of snow. Remembering what Saint Peter said, the man quickly pushed the button for the top floor, the doors closed and he traveled back up to Heaven. After returning to Heaven the man approached Saint Peter and said, "I'm ready to enter into Heaven now, but before I do I have just one more question. " "Go ahead", replied Saint Peter, and so the man asked, "I thought Hell would be fire and brimstone, but instead all I saw was snow and ice. Is that what it's really like?" Saint Peter thought about this for a second and finally answered, "Snow and ice, eh? I guess Liverpool FC finally won the Premiership!"

There is only a day to go and obviously the second leg but for such a big game I've never known Mourinho to be so quiet in the press and on tv. There will be a press conference tomorrow but does seem a bit strange, is it out of respect?

Supasub

Believable4 Unbelievable3

I'd say so, both men have the upmost respect for each other and I only foresee things going sour (in terms of mind games) if there is a particularly contentious moment in either game. SAF said in his interview with the tv that he will leave the mind games down to Mourinho, and as you say the Special 1 has been quiet from his end too.

Just looked at the remaining fixtures of the last 12 games, I predict United will earn 24 points and city will earn 26,
This is looking at the games in a realistic view including draws and losses, some inconsistencies occour.
United 7W 3D 2L
City 8W 2D 2L
Liverpool 6W 3D 3L
Obviously I know this isn't exactly going to happen as nobody can predict 100% results for the above, but I am very happpy as to where we are in the league, aswell as champions league and looking forward to the madrid and reading games aswell. Season is looking very good.
Also you have to laugh at liverpool who (at these predictions) will finish with 57 points, a nice total for a 8th place finish : P

Believable6 Unbelievable5

I don't believe we'll drop that many points, unless we win the league early and rest players so I'm interested to know which games you think we well lose or draw.

TK-Red

Agree1 Disagree1

Chelsea and Man City both at OT as both will be fired up and wanting to get one over us if we are champions plus I expect us to lose one other game as all teams drop points. Draw against Arsnal, Villa (who I expect to hit some form as they are a decent side just young) and Swansea who have been been fireing well with Michu and De Guzman. I don't think its an impossibility and each of the 5 teams I mentioned can cause us problems.

Agree1 Disagree2

Mystic meg,

If you think we will lose to city and Chelsea at home and also another game because all teams lose games, why have you only got us down as 2 defeats?

GDS

Agree5 Disagree0

I think we will beat City, Chelsea & Arsenal. I think we will be out of the UCL by then and we will have no reason to rest players. I think we are a better team than all of the above no matter what individuals they have. Even with our wingers not having a great season and our midfield a little light, we are still a better team than the above.

Sydney!

Agree3 Disagree2

We beat both teams away and you predict that we lose to them at home? All because they will be eager to get one over on the champions elect? I suspect they were fairly fired up at home when the title was still in play.

don't forget what city did to us at home last year

Agree0 Disagree0

We beat both City and Chelsea away and you predict that we lose at home on the basis that they will be fired up to beat the champions (?) elect?

I suspect, that they were fairly fired up at home when the title was still firmly in play.
Also, don't forget what city did to us at home last season. Regardless of how comfortable we are in the table, Sir Alex will want blood. 3 pints of it I'd imagine : )

Hi guys, posted on here a few times but have decided to post moe regularly now. Some great posters on here, my fav has to be sydney. Always look out for his posts. But anyway onto wednesdays game.

It will be very tough out there, everyone keeps harping on about Ronaldo but let's not forget they have more dangerous players. I agree with the guys below and hope evans and vidic start in defence. I honestly believe evans is our 2nd best centre back. I hope smalling doesn't start, he seems a bit clumsy in his play, he worries me when he plays, not trying to say he's crap. I think the key to winning is wnning the central middle battle and hope carrick controls the game more than alonso. Obviously I would love for us to win but i'd be happy with A score draw, would be a gud result to take back to old trafford and if we do lose hopefully its only a 1 goal deficit.

wade

Believable3 Unbelievable2

A centre-back needs a long run of games. Evans and Ferdinand have had a long run of games so will both start. Smalling is an exceptional player, but needs a run of games like any other CB.

Sydney!

Agree6 Disagree1

Even though he played yesterday I think vidic will start wouldn't be surprised to see ferdy alongside him
Jred

Agree4 Disagree0

Another fan to add to the long list syd. Welcome to the site wade, the more people who can type in English with sensible comments the better for me!

I do agree with syd about smalling, he needs a run of games and he could be fantastic. The fact he is probably our 4th choice centre half and will be playing at the back for England shows what amazing options we have at the back. I think in defence we are stronger than in 1999, in attack we are equal if not better, obviously the only issue is the midfield which falls well behind. The squad is good enough to win the double though.

GDS

Agree1 Disagree1

Jred, it is very difficult to predict if it will be Evans or Vidic. Many are talking about this. Vidic was a beast against Everton so wouldn't mind either or both to play. I get the feeling that SAF will go with Evans as a game like this could be the making of him. I am happy either way to be honest.

Sydney!

Agree1 Disagree0

Thanks GDS.

Syd, so do you think ferdinand will definitely start tomorrow alongside either 1 of evans or vidic? I seriously think it shoud be the same back four played against everton.

wade

Agree0 Disagree0

Welcome aboard, wade!

I too am assuming it will be Rio and Evans - Vidic can't play twice in 3 days can he? He certainly hasn't played twice a week since his injury anyway.

I'll be happy either way though as he is still a top class CB (Vidic).

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Vidic on the weekend was immense but how many high crosses will he have to deal with against Real Madird? They don't have anyone like Fellaini for us to need anyone to battle with. They will play with fast players and will look to play their way through. So being quick in either body or mind will be needed. We will need someone experianced to lead the defence so it will be one of Rio or Vidic but not both imo as I don't think they have enough pace to deal with Madrids attack.

I think aslong as Evans is fit he is a certainty, as he has more pace than Rio and Vidic and has good reading of the game, and over tha season so far has been our most conssitant defender.

So this leaves us with Rio or Vidic alongside Evans. I think it will be Rio as he is better at reading the game and is still a shade quicker than Vidic, plus Vidic played on the weekend.

Rio and Evans for me.
