Was very impressed with Fabio again today, i really hope he can kick on with this loan and come back ready to fight it out for the LB spot. I do wonder whether seperating the twins has focused their minds abit more and is making them better players. It's funny that Rafael has matured when he hasn't had his brother with him.

But on to my main point, with Fabio looking good for QPR and Buttner looking like he could become a decent LB with abit of refining added to Blackett coming through the to the reserves and looking like he'll need to make the step up in a season or two. It raises the question of whether we need a new LB at all.

I think if Evra leaves this summer then Fabio and Buttner should have a season to fight it out for the LB spot next season. At the end of that season we should reaccess the situation and decide on who to keep and who to move on with Blackett coming in and taking over the role of understudy.

Shappy

Believable9 Unbelievable3

I see where we could be mate but I think the manager will keep Evra till he is gone. Which if it's next summer we could have him blocking all the younger guys path under the guise of exp for at least another year.

I honestly believe SAF would drop Rafa to accommodate Fabio for a game instead of drop Evra and give Fab a game at LB.

Jono

Agree8 Disagree3

I would prefer if we signed Baines, but realistically I think SAF feels the same way as you. It seems we have a few options at LB now when last year we were short. On the plus side of not getting Baines/new LB I'm delighted that Fabio is getting game time and hope he keeps up the good work. If we can sort out both full back positions with Rafael and Fabio then their transfers would turn out to be massive bargains.

Gav

Agree2 Disagree5

Are full backs are coming together nicely. Rafael, Buttner, Blackett, Fabio and Evra with Jones, Smalling and Valencia being able to cover.... Selling Evra is ideal with Baines replacing him.

Agree0 Disagree1

Shappy

I know he is new and not yet settled in...but I find the Buttner transfer a little odd. At the moment he does not look good enough (is he markedly better than Fryers?) so I really don't think he was bought as the replacement for Evra but I'm struggling to see what the plan for LB actually is.

AJH

Agree1 Disagree1

If Fabio is to be our longterm lb then we will have to sign a left footed winger!

Agree0 Disagree1

Bit late but just like to say....Fabio Da Silva is finally coming to the party.

Has had a slow start to his career through injury and Evra in the first team. But I have watched his last 2 league games and he has been outstanding. Coming up against some of the most talented players in the league at Chelsea in Hazard, Mata, Oscar etc. and again today against two of the best wingers in the world in Bale and Lennon and keeping all of them quiet was a true testament to how far he has developed.

We've seen the penny drop with Rafael who has been outstanding and one of our most consistent players this season and it's happening with Rafael. Just think if he carries on this form and returns to Utd it can only benefit us. I say give him a shot, don't go in for Cole allow Pat to leave and bring Fabio in with Buttner as cover.

Just imagine a possible future RB/LB combination of Rafael and Fabio in 3 or 4 years as the best combination in world football.

Keep it up Fabio

RedKnight

Believable9 Unbelievable2

Redknight

I always felt Fabio did really well when he played but it was like every 2 games and he was injured but not just small ones instead it was collarbone, ligaments, twisted knee etc every time we were looking at 3 weeks minimum.

Thing was he looked good in both FB slots so without his injuries we may never have seen Rafa get so many games so it may in the long run work in our favour.

I fully agree if we don't get Baines the twins at FB would be great.

Plus get Blackett a good Champ team loan for a year.

Jono

Agree2 Disagree1

Lets not get carried away. Fabio has looked good in the last few games but it is only a few games. When he has kept up this form for until the end of the season and shown consistency then we can start saying he is Paddy's long term replacement. It took a long time for people to see Rafael as our long term right back (some still don't) so lets not expect too much of Fabio and, like I said, wait and see if he can show top level consistency.

TK-Red

Agree5 Disagree3

Spot on TK, everyone got excited after Buttner's debut but it takes more than a couple of games to convince. I really hope he gets a long run and settles in, I think he has all the skills and attributes to be a success.

To those saying we will sell DDG because he is not happy, watch his latest interview with MUTV (Countdown to Kickoff I believe), you can tell the lad wants to be here and is happy as larry.

Still not confident in English mind, that needs to be addressed.

MPez

Believable0 Unbelievable2

His lack of confidence speaking english will be holding back when it comes to comanding his box. He is improving all the time. I think he is happy here and we just need to stick with him.

Shappy

Agree12 Disagree1

It takes a long time to learn the English language, along side training and preparing for matches every week and also making sure he has time to spend with his family and girlfriend.

Give him a few years and I am sure he will be speaking more fluently in English, it is a difficult language to learn.

I do agree with you though, I hope we keep the lad at his age he has developed so much, most goalkeepers at 22 would be backup or on loan. He has a good 20 years ahead of himself if he stays fit, he also has the potential to be one of the best on the world, very rare when you get a player like this in your team.

-JakeW

Agree1 Disagree2

I think he is a very good keeper and would love to have him at United for the next 10 years nut I just can not see him here in another 18-24 months..... I just think he is destined to play back in Spain and I have a feeling Fergie will end up losing his rag with him... Plus when the new manager comes in who knows who he will want to keep??

Agree1 Disagree2

Jake

IMO English is one of the easier languages to Learn especially as countries like Spain, France and Germany all learn it as a second language. At 20 DDG was hardly out of school and so the tutors should be able to get him up to speed at least in football terms almost instantly.

I won't get into the DDG debate again but with all the rumours + many on here now speculating on new keepers signing then I think many probably see the same as me but just don't want to say it and go against the grain!

Jono

Agree1 Disagree1

Hopefully we stick with this guy because he will come good. I just get the feeling United are not convinced yet. Come on SAF, give the boy an improved contract to show him we trust him.

do you not think that we're actually looking at number two's? Lindegaard has convinced even less. I think its more likely he'll be on his way in summer than big save dave. Remember fergie is stubborn and i can't see him giving up on a keeper he paid almost twenty million for so easily as the media are suggesting. We know the issues and there all solvable ones like gym work, language work and so on. The issue with lindegaard is simple, he isn't good enough. Its not something that can be worked on he just doesn't have the talent. As big pete said remember?

Lot of Lampard haters here based solely on his age - he was immense today against Stoke, I still don't think it will happen but I think he would be a fantastic addition to our squad if he was on a free transfer and not at the expense of us signing a player like Strootman etc.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

He's a decent player who's value probably lies more in his experiance rather than his ability now. If both Giggs and Scholes retire in the summer then Lampard would be a very useful addition to the team but if one or both stay then i see no need for Lampard.

Also it would be important if Lampard was to join that he wasn't the only midfielder to join.

Anyone see the U18's today... Won with pretty much the last kick of the game... The never say die attitude goes all the way though the club... Wilson...anyone else think linear when they see him? Gets a chance and scores...Could be note the could be an absolute star if he keeps his development going at this rate...:-)

Believable3 Unbelievable3

12 Jan 2013 19:07:57
The past couple of years ive been sceptical of Giggs ability to make a contribution only for him to step up in the big games or bail us out in injury time for vital league points. obviously he's not very quick or strong any more which weaken's us defensively but his composure and technique are still outstanding and his fitness levels top notch.
I wouldnt start him in a high intensity game like tomorrow but I can see why the Manager trusts him when we need leadership and a moment of quality to turn the game.
It's not a blind spot or short termism by the manager to keep playing Giggs it's a tactical decision to sacrifice energy from our midfield in order to give the strikers maximum service.
I've learned to stop worrying about Giggs being finished and savour the last moments of class before he retires.
Winning goal from a giggs cross anyone?

If carrick and the CB's play well tomorrow i can't see us losing.
Bren,

Believable12 Unbelievable4

Well said Bren. Top post.

StevieK

Agree2 Disagree1

I have been guilty of being a Giggs critic the last two years, it's not his fault he can't keep up with the game. But he does show sparks of what he used to be so many times. He may be getting older now but his class will always be there.

Well said and it will be a sad day when he retires.

i think as soon as the game is safe we should get van persie and carrick off the pitch as i wouldn't put it past certain individuals to try and injure them.

Believable6 Unbelievable6

Let's not get complacent mate. It's never an easy game. And I really don't see what you are suggesting happening.

AJH

Agree6 Disagree0

Agree with AJH, 3 points by any means possible. Then hope for City to slip up.

Gav

Agree4 Disagree2

Not sure what you are trying to suggest here, but get a grip!

There's a difference between cheating / conning the ref to get the three points and purpousfully injuring a player out of spite after a game is lost (even when it would have no bearing on the rest if your teams season due to league position).

Credit Liverpool football club and all their players (yes even the buck toothed one) with a bit more class than that!

But then again, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean everyone isn't out to get you, Eh?

Antipathy....is it any wonder...ridiculous post like so many. Arrogance and lack of humility is what lets true fans down. How you act as a winner e.g Messi is what makes you truly great.

Gav, I liked the name change, just need to point out that whilst I appreciate you're only a trainee surveyor, you still should really know that tit is tee eye tee, you missed off the tee at the end.

AJH, not in any way shape or form bitter mate, I like to post according to what's posted. See the top paragraph. I don't begrudge RVP anything, who seriously would've turned that down.

It's others that need their sorry American arses kicked. Hope the wine worked and you don't look 48.

Mick

Agree4 Disagree0

Mick - We really missed out on him and Moura, They are both exceptional talents but I just wonder both will end up in Spain....

Agree2 Disagree1

Mick

Hazzard for 21 yers old is a very good player. I watched Moura the other day and hard to tell who is going to be better.

Shahram

Agree2 Disagree0

Tbh noname, im not so sure of that.

Moura is way too overhyped. He is still 19 and has done nothing of worth to be priced at 30 mils, plus the 6 mils his agent was looking for.
For that kind of price we could buy the likes of Goetze, Muniain, Rodriguez. SES and Isco ( half as much ). They all all much more proven, not to mention better atm. We could have also got proven worldclass players like Vidal. Hell even RVP cost less.

As for hazard, he always wanted to go to Madrid, and using MU as a stepping stone is not really something we should be accepting. The only one who did it is cristiano, and let's just say after helping us win a handful of titles not to mention him winning the ballon d'or and fetching us 80 mil, im not too bothered. But he is still an expetional talent, but a bit overpriced if you ask me.

Absolutely great first half from Fabio, Lennon is as tricky as they come and Fabio has owned him...So far...!

In my opinion Fabio has always been a great player, every time he gets a run of games he proves it. The only problem is whether he can stay fit or not.

CnM

Fabio was the higher rated twin in Brazil and by us aswell. I actually think he could ply for us now in all honesty if he stayed fit but Fergie loves Evra for some strange reason.

Lets not forget how good he was at RB a couple season's ago.

Fabio for me is improving quite nicely, looking very comfortable at left back and on his left foot!

Would like to see him playing for mufc next year definetly has the ability to do so!

Doing well for qpr at the moment vs spurs loooks very solid

Big V

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Apparently Fabio was the reason behind us signing the twins. I believe he just needed a bit of confidence, hopefully now the sky's the limit!

Patzi

When we bought the twins, Fabio was captaining Brazil U21 and was considered the better of the two. Injury and illness slowed his progress, allowing Rafeal to come to the fore.

I have to say I have been one of Adel Taraabt's biggest critics but he is one heck of an entertaining player to watch... may be available on the cheap if they get relegated. Great squad addition imo.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

It might be a decent signing as he is very good technically. It looks like he has 4 guys on him andzero support every time he gets the ball and don't know where the rest of the QPR players are? LOL

Shahram

Agree1 Disagree2

He is grossly under rated, he has some flashes of pure brilliance and a great footballing brain, he just needs some quality around him and some fine tuning he could be a very good player on the cheap maybe £10-12 million.. Pus he puts a good shift in for the team.

Agree1 Disagree2

12 Jan 2013 15:06:36
no no no terrible attitude and selfish not united quality at all

Agree2 Disagree2

Theres no denying his ability but I'm not sure 'Adel Taraabt' and 'squad player' sit well together in a sentance. He seems to have an ego and IMO needs to be at a team where he's one of the big boys. I'm not sure he has the dedication or professionalism to be an effective squad player at a top club.

Luke Shaw of Southampton has a buy out clause that only certain Premier League clubs can activate. Manchester United are one of them there's another 6.

I was watching fergie's interview and those who saw it might also confer and although the press reports what he said in a different light, I am sure we have a agreed at least one deal or maybe more that might be announced at the end of the season if not end of this transfer window. I might be wrong but his whole demeanor was like, you don't know what I know and seemed very happy as if he has gotten what he wants but kept it under wraps.

Then again it might be wishful thinking :)

I don't think we will buy Zaha.
Fergie highly rates Januzaj as does the whole of Europe.
Januzaj played his first game with the first team against Aberdeen. I'm sure Sir Alex has plans for the young Belgian in Pre-Season.

By the start of next season Januzaj will be 18 & Zaha still 20. 2years difference. Is it better to give OUR star Academy/u21 game time when Young/Nani/Valencia/Giggs/Welbeck need a rest. All players above play or play now & again on the wing & will be here next season.

Januzaj or Zaha will get the odd appearances ahead of these players.

QUALITIES: (who's better)
Potential: both
Skill: Januzaj
Technique: Januzaj
Control: Januzaj
Team play: Januzaj
Pace: Zaha
Strength: Zaha
United Quality: Januzaj
Bargain: Januzaj

In all I think Januzaj is better & should be given the game time. 12m could be saved elsewhere (Baines or Fabio Contrea) why block the most talented player we have coming through.

TJ

Believable8 Unbelievable4

12 Jan 2013 11:16:42
its hardly blocking him. Zaha is playing regular games in the second division. Januzaj has only just stepped up to the reserves from the academy he won't be going up to the first team next season. Also of our current wing options both giggs and nani won't be here next season and young possibly won't be either. We need freshening up in the wing dept and i think we have room for zaha an exciting young talent. People keep moaning about missing out on bale well i think if we don't get zaha we could be hearing similar moans in a couple of years.

Agree5 Disagree1

Have not seen Januzaj play but agree with the fact that we would be better off not spending that sort of money. I would not mind it if it was a 5-7 million purchase but the numbers everyone is talking about is nuts for a guy who has never played against proper competition.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would young be gone, he has played well and our best option on the left wing.

Shahram

Agree3 Disagree3

No Name

I think there is a big difference with guys like CR at Sporting and Bale who were showing Glimses of brilliance and playing against top clubs and top opposition on a weekly basis to a guy who plays against 3rd tier players on a weekly basis.

There is a report today that we are offering 16 million plus Macheda, I think it would be madness if true, when Bender (leverkusen) supposedly has a 12 million pound release clause.

Shahram

Agree2 Disagree1

Tj

At 18 he has 4 years of proving himself
Before he will be getting games but the new man will be in place by then and no doubt have his own ideas.

1 thing from the manager change will be very interesting IMO will be if it's to happen this or next summer how many of the younger ones will the new man have faith in to throw in straight at the deep end? There is a list of at least 7-8 that I think can at least become squad players but they are reaching that age where they start needing games.

Blackett for instance has had 1-2 appearances and should be on loan at 19 but we are clinging to them for one reason or another. The youth are not getting a chance at the expense of older players as a cautious older man winds down into retirement.

It certainly leaves the new man with allot to do in regards to keeping all of these talented youths and progressing them all into the players we hope they can be.

Like petrucci should have been on loan all year, tunners Blackett and keane the same yet it's only happening now with the biggest person reaping the rewards being Darren ferguson when it should be the player!

Jono

Agree1 Disagree0

I honestly think Blackett should be on loan at a Leicester City type team, Petrucci should be at a Wigan or Reading, Tunners should be at a Southampton type team... There is a few players that should be getting minimum 20-30 games a season at a lower prem club or high championship club. At the end of the day there must be a reason Blackett etc are not getting loaned out but i just can not see it. It baffles me.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Jan 2013 15:30:16
shahram young isn't quite united quality. I think evra handicaps him but if someone were to offer fifteen i think it should be accepted. As for bale he was signed from southampton who at the time were in the same league as palace are in. So bale was playing against as you put it third rate players before his big move. I don't see the reluctance in paying the money for someone who could be very good. We paid more for young who's limited. We paid more for nani who failed to achieve his potential.

Agree1 Disagree0

I don't disagree with the fact that our wingers have been a disappointment and have posted this many times before.

Young might not be the greatest winger we have had, but they all suffer from playing in a team with an underwhelming midfield and in his case a leaky left back.

I also think we have spent enough on wingers and if we are going to buy another one, I would rather buy a more finished product (Muniain, Rodriguez, Isco).

Not a transfer rumour but...
Is there any chance Rooney has a clause in his contract where he gets a break at Xmas to spend time with his young family? Maybe an agreement with SAF?

Any thoughts?

Stockie1999

Believable2 Unbelievable6

Very much doubt it, KLOOT would go insane if there was... So part of me wished that was the case! :D

Could have been compassionate leave, could have been small injury, could have been extra hard gym time.

Fergy's comments at the time were that Rooney had injured himself at the end of training on Christmas Day when executing a volley. Sounds like him to me, probably a stupid overhead kick or something!

DodgyBanter {Ed004's Note - There is a picture of Rooney back in training I assume from yesterday in one of the papers and he is looking in much better shape!}

If you watch Roy Keane vs Juventus in 1999, it makes me think he was the greatest captain of all time, and the fact that people on here are saying Keane was a 'wannabe' Bryan Robson makes me wish I was born 20 years earlier.

Instead I get to watch people fall over for the slightest touch all my life, good eh?

Hoppy

Believable6 Unbelievable0

Robson has 90 Engalnd caps and if not for injuries would probably hold the record. He broke his leg 3 times in a year in his early days and as he got older, the injuries kept on coming. Never a pulled hamstring, more likely a broken bone or a dislocated shoulder. He had far more skill than people often give him credit for.
