Cannot wait to see Welbeck & Cleverley in action for United. I hope people can appreciate just how decent Welbeck is. He has speed, strength and his pressing high up the field is top notch. I am not talking about his tap-in, I am talking about his overall qualities.

Cleverley should have started on the left, Phil Jones & Smalling especially were outstanding. Not just rocks in defense, but quality footballers too. De Gea looked top quality. Add these guys to the twins, Nani, Hernandez, Rooney, Valencia, Pogba, Morrison, Keane, Tunners etc and we are sweet. Watch out people, we are going to rule for a long long time in the future.

How good does Javi Martinez look for Spain u21? Built like a brick wall, brilliant with the ball at his feet. He would suit the EPL down to the ground. Ed, I know for a fact we showed some interest in him last summer. Is a bid for this summer on? {Ed004's Note - I am not watching the game but I rate Martinez highly}

Completely agree! The guy looks awesome so far but then he always looks consistent for Bilbao too!!! Would love to sign him....can see his value shooting up though if he carries on the rest of the tournament like this!

As much as I don't want to say this Henderson has looked great so far tonight, as does Mancienne and Cleverley.

De Gea just made a brilliant save, albeit from their own team's fault.

Loving this game so far.

hi ed could you put this on please-
dear sydney can you explain this
stretford end.com 3 march 2011

the bond issue was 514m of which red football purchased back 24m
a 7m mortgage is secured on the container terminal behind the stretford end known as the alderley mortgage.
249m of piks loans secured against (red football) where paid in nov 2010 by (red football joint venture ltd)
no explaination was given of where this 249m came from although it is likely new dept was issued in the u.s.
now as the gaziers maintain they solely own 100% of mufc it seems highly likely some sort of corporate loan note, iou, or seperate bond issue was made to the mufc parent company and it goes without saying secured against there assets namely mufc.so lets see
thats 490m owed in bonds
7m mortgage
249m mysterious loan
42m per year bond interest

robbing peter to pay paul comes to mind you bought sucess for years (financial unfair play) and now you are paying for it big time 'bankrupt me thinks timbbbeeerrrrrrrrr

Attention all Man united fans...

I posted on Thursday that united had as much as 100 million to spend this summer and it will be there biggest ever spending spree in the Prem, and it could go to 130+ if they sell a few players! that post got 34 unbelieve's, now as anybody read today's papers?
i said they would be making as many as 6 new signings 3 being world class, 3 players have already been signed, but none of these 3 are the 3 "world class" players (de gea, yound, jones) its an attacking center midfielder, a solid defensive midfielder, and an attacking winger/forward that they are going for. attacking midfielder - sneijder/modric/young
defensive midfielder - sweinsteiger/diarra/rodwell
attacking winger/forward - sanchez

also Giggs will retire this summer so the 2 key areas that they are improving are left wing and with scholes retired centre midfield!

**watch this space, these will all be announced in the next fortnight**

the names RED D MAN, remember my name when it happens guys, i havent been wrong yet {Ed012's Note - How do you know Giggs is going to retire?}

the word is that he feels the time is now right after all these allegations that have come out and all the abuse and pressure he will recieve at every game, he doesnt want his career to be remebered like that after an otherwise glorious one, i hope he doesnt but at the end of the day who could blame him if he does?

Just moving away from transfers and banter, just a couple of questions.

When people say about spending £50 million on upgrading Carrington what sort of work do they mean? The place has only been open a few years and was state of the art, so what needs doing that would cost that kind of money?

Secondly regards expanding OT is there anythin gin the piepline, ? Is it something that is seriously being looked at? What sort of costs and capacity rise are looking at?

Thanks. {Ed004's Note - Well there is £20 million being spent on Carrington atm, am not sure what for, but the stadium could be increased to 95,000, I think that would be maximum capacity)

We all know Barca have made a bid for Sanchez .... City are apparently making a bid yet SAF supposedly phones Sanchez and tells him to hold on and join UTD! I have a sneaky feeling he wants to wait until a deal for Sneijder involving Nani is complete before making his move!
You may be right Naughtomatic about Sanchez and Sneijder joining!...
Also SAF said last summer there will come a time when we have to spend to replace players! I believe this is the summer!

It's great to win No 19 this season but I have a bad feeling that unless we do something drastic the Scousers will overtake us. Dalglish is a master at getting under peoples skin and I don't think Ferguson will be able for him, he is not as big a legend as Dalglish, no matter what we want to think. If they get the players they are looking for then we'll be in trouble...Because if they get them the Kenny will get the best out of them

Man Utd are making a shock bid for frannie Jeffers, who is replacing the outgoing chicarito to madrid for 14 million. fergie sees this as a good bit of buisness as he only paid 6 mill for him!

i work at one of the burger huts next to Old trafford and live near carrington training ground, and im hearing alot of strong rumours today that united are doing 2 straight swaps deals, one with hernandez for hunterlaar from schalke, and one with nani and anderson for jermaine beckford and arteta, there is evidence of david gill and malcolm glazier leaving goodison park today and hernandez's dad at schalke headquaters! i'd of thought it would of been jack rodwell from everton was the reason why, but apparently not, and now ive thought about it i suppose 2 players are better than one, im just on my way to the bookmakers now to put a bet on and u will see that the odds have been slashed.

i feel that a lot of the man u players are being wasted just continuisly staying on the bench and never getting a game eg. obertan, bebe where fergie should loan then out to teams such as rangers, where they will be able to find there feet and score consistently, bringing there confidence levels up, even though the spl hasnt got the greatest competition they are still competing in the champions league, so there could still be alot to learn.

Your all way off the mark, never seen so much rubbish. If ya really bored have a lok at uniteds prospective buys over the past few years. How many actually joined. Not many.

As we know De Gea coming but can we stop talking about it now.
Cant sign players from abroad till after July !st, FACT !
This go's for Sanchez and Sneider.

Sanchez. His club are touting him all over europe. His agent likes the white powder life ! and has been giving city every bit of info from uniteds pursuit to force a battle. Barca cant afford to purchase him and the players they really want and chase their primary targets as we speak. If they dont get what they want they may go back to him. However if aint sold by fergie and agreed to sign by now. He is not coming . Fact. Fergie dont take cast offs regardless of talent. Once your not sure about playing for united, you will see OT it in your rear view mirror.PS young if this go, s through ya will regret going on holiday.

Sneider. fergie willing to stretch budget to pay 250,000 per week for player who has never played premiership football once, and lets not forget flopped at Real. Truth is Barca hit him hard this Summer and he is interested but only as a back up to Mod/Nasri

Nasri is a clever little monkey Hardball can bite you on the ass. Not a dressing room bonder sees his bum too much. Fergie likes modric (needs a lot of work strengthening still and more awareness drumming into him. However his proffesional approach is enduring to SAF. If tottenham wont sell, he wont go FACT So not in our control.

We have pretty much done our work. so stop wasting your breath. Pro-s and con-s for each argument.

However aware 3 people agreed and SAF has decided four will come only as he wont be able to work closely with more new players than this. So there is one more coming for sure. Maybe two if we cast young aside. (sanchez being one of these). Ps if you dont believe this thats fine however do you homework from previous years. Targets aquired get them, finalise get them on tour. If they say no we dont spend all summer hagging we move on and bring a player to develop in January (varane:) welcome to OT

Ps was having breakfast a few months back with Sir Bobby and subject got to mourihnio. cant say too much however. Over his dead body will that arrogant lucky little man step foot inside his heart. I agree hed have bid for everyone we have been talking about on here today;)

Why do Liverpool fans think they are debt-free Ed? They are £123m in debt. They do not pay a lot of interest on this, but they are still £123m in debt nonetheless. If they go and spend £80m on players this summer then they will be over £200m in debt form next year.

Ed, do you think this story about the Hong Kong stock exchange could be a way for the Glazers to get a higher price for the club? I think the Qatari sale could actually happen, it has nothing to do with PSG as they were bought by Qatari's that have nothing to do with QIA or the royals. I think the payment of the PIK was funded by the Qatari's as a call option kind of deal were they can "call" on the Glazers to sell at a given price at a predetermined price. I don't think the Qatari's will pump the kind of money that into the squad like s**ty have but will allow the club to spend what it makes - which is a lot more than others in the league.

Good time ahead at the theatre of dreams if you ask me.

Am i the only one baffled by all this jones nonsense. If he has a buyout clause which United and Arsenal have activated then whats the problem. The papers claiming United have some how tapped him up when he spoke to Arsenal first is simply the cockney ABU brigade in full swing. The fact he had a medical and agreed terms was surely because he had permission to do so, particularly as he was on fa duty at the time. How Liverpool fans see this as some sort of victory because queen kenny is driving the price up is astounding, are they happy for him to bid over and above the players release clause in the hope that it will annoy Fergie! Also a bid above the release cluase is pointless becaus of the very fact the release clause exists! Dont know about you Ed but i'm of the opinion that Rovers may in fact be trying to negotiate Diouf into the deal rather than the guessing game going on in the press!

In reply to MPez, although it does state on the Blackburn website that Phil Jones is 5ft11, i know from being an ex pro that measurements of height and weight etc. are taken at the start of the season. A lad of Jones' age 18/19 would almost definately grow over the period of the season. Hence this figure although true at the time is probably now different. Can someone answer this for me - with the new financial fair play rules starting this summer why do the papers/media continually keep saying that clubs like Man City are the only ones who an afford to pay "x" wages to people because of their owners wealth, the latest nonsense story was £160m bid and £400k a week for Ronaldo. Surely even with the leeway being given in first 3 years the rules come in Man City and Chelsea can't afford to be spending too much if they want to play in Europe?

I would be most surprised if Berbatov remained at Old Trafford given all the circumstances around him. So it would leave us a striker light, I dont believe Welbeck is similar enough in style to Hernandez so we would have to change our style of play for him as well. We have been linked with Benzema, however there is a potential new controversy if the papers are to be believed, Aguero looks lined up to play at the Madrid Circus.

There is someone English who perhaps we could look at. He is from the north which would make it easier for him to settle and there are rumours his club would sell at about £20M. He plays in a similar way to Hernandez so we wouldnt have to change our style like we do with Berbatov. He has potential and can score goals.

Looks like all of Fergie's top three targets are not moving to Old Trafford. Modric will take a huge amount of money to move. Around 35-40m for the Croatian. Nasri was just press talk with him trying to get Arsenal to cough up more money for him to sign a new deal. Sneijder will almost definitely move to Chelsea or stay at Inter. This leaves Fergie still searching. Perhaps he will leave it or press harder to sign one of his three main targets. Charlie Adam was a target but he will sign for Liverpool for 10 million. He was Fergie's 4th choice anyway. Van Der Vaart is 5th choice. I would expect VDV or Modric sign if anyone. Outside chance of Nasri. Sanchez in unlikely but still possible. His 1st choice remains Barca but the problem is that Barca want Rossi, Neymar, Sanchez, Fabregas and Enrique with a 45 million budget. Sanchez would take around 30 which they are reluctant to do. Most likely scenario is that they will sign Fabregas and Rossi or Rossi and Sanchez, maybe Enrique or Clichy. Jones WILL sign, just Blackburn trying to stump up more money. Young will soon pen to paper (God knows why, we don't exactly need him) and De Gea is a certain.

I think the LFC supporters who come on here should get back into the tardis and feck off back to the eighties. Phil Jones's agent has now stated that the contract drawn up by BRFC is water tight and expects the deal to be announced within 48hrs.
Secondly, I posted on here some 6 months ago that the Qatar interest was real, and that they funded the PIK's loan payment and will also fund a summer transfer spend. This (PIK's) was to help the Glazers maximise their profits in their final 2 years of ownership and to give the Glazers a lasting better image with supporters re transfer spending. This still is the case according to my City of London source!

The 27-year-old last week told reporters in Italy that he was "very happy" at Inter, adding that he didn't see why he should leave the club.

But with reports that the Premier League champions are preparing a £35m bid for the Netherlands international, Sneijder has again given comments suggesting that he is open to a move.

"I love Inter with all my heart, " he was quoted by Tuttomercatoweb as saying. "But God will decide where my future will be. Only he knows it.

"I want to thank the fans as they have always been great with me, and I want to assure them that if I stay at Inter then I will do everything to win more."

The People on Sunday reported that United are lining up the new bid amid growing speculation that the Red Devils are on the brink of a fresh take over attempt from Qatar.

Sneijder, who has also been linked with a move to Chelsea, could reportedly be part of a £125m spending spree at Old Trafford as speculation builds that Qatar Holdings, the business arm of the country's ruling royal family, are behind United's summer spending spree.

Qatar Holdings, a division of the Qatar Investment Authority, had a £1.5billion offer to buy the club turned down last year.

But it has been claimed that the Qataris may have funded a loan repayment by the American-based Glazer family late last year to the tune of £250m.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is currently on holiday in the south of France, but is close to completing deals for Aston Villa winger Ashley Young and Blackburn defender Phil Jones worth a combined £40m.

Ferguson is also looking to sign Udinese winger Alexis Sanchez (see below) and Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea, while Arsenal winger Samir Nasri is also on the Scot's shopping list.

How pathetic are liverpool ????
I see they are so jealous of our club now they resorted to even bidding for players we have already signed (according to jones agent).
They are seething over the fact that SAF has beaten them to two of their major targets and are clutching at straws to try get one over on united.
Number 19 has obviously hit them even harder than any of us could have imagined.
SAF must be having a right good laugh at dog leashs expence.

i'v been reading on here for the past couple of weeks and have one question.....why does everybody want Benzema?

he was a great player when at Lyon but has been a bit of a flop at Madrid. and now both himself and Higuain are said to be available.

i would much rather we put in a bid for Higuain. before the world cup and his injury he was one of the best strikers in Europe. i'v seen some people saying we'd get him for around 15 million and thats an absolute steal for a player as good as him. could you imagine himself and chicha up front, with rooney playing just behind them? that would be a strike force to be reckoned with.

on another note, i am not in anyway linked with some sort of informer or newspaper or friends aunts brothers sisters dog that sometimes walks around OT, but this is what i think is going to happen.

we already have De gea, Young and Jones. relax about De Gea, we have to wait for agent changes, and anyway, we cant sign him until 1st July.
Young is as good as done but i dont know why after agreeing terms and passing a medical he didnt sign straight away. a strange one.
jones is coming. yes blackburns owners now want more, but if a bid from anyone else comes in jones will simply say i dont want to move. he cant be forced to join a club. hes agreed to sign for united and the owners will realise soon that they either lose out on serious money or have to sell.

i dont think we are going to see sneider in OT nexyt year. however, the transfers of Modric and Nasri are building up heat. Nasri i believe to be linking himself to us so he can get a better contract with arsenal, because they know cesc is going this season and need Nasri. i think Modric mabye our deadline day signing. we have a history of big signings at last minute and he would be an amazing addition. also, Sanchez is as good as ours now that Barca look to be out of the race.

so: Ins: Jones
De Gae
Young
Modric
Snachez

Out: O'Shea
Brown
Gibson
Nani
Berbatov
Kids for loan

team next season

De Gae
Twin Rio Vidic Evra

Fletch/Jones Modric

Sanchez/Valencia Rooney Young

Why on earth would United want to bring in a 37 year old retired striker in Dean Sturridge. I'm guessing you meant Daniel Sturridge, who I think is a quality player, but I can not see Chelsea selling him to us, unless for a ridiculous sum.

You say Welbeck is nothing like Chicharito, but surely this is a good thing. Having different types of striker gives the ability to mix things up if the current tactics aren't working.

*I hate to break it to you Red Man but Dean Sturridge has long since retired. Besides I dont think spending £20million on an ex Derby County striker is the way forward ;-)

I jest, I couldnt help myself. For me Daniel Sturridge wouldnt be worth the £20million required to sign him especially not for someone who would be playing second fiddle to Hernandez and Rooney. He is a good young striker though. If he were available for £10million I would say snap him up.

I can't see LFC wanting to sign a players who opted you go elsewhere, that's his loss, but you will pay the full price for him that's guarenteed. Other clubs will now be wide to the way UTD try every underhand trick in the book & will be weary of doing any business. Hopfully you'll get Young also.

So, following on from G.A.G.U.S's list, here's my all-time world XI. Main rule was I couldn't put anybody in I haven't seen play a lot, so that makes it 1980 onwards, I'm afraid. Wasn't lucky enough to see Best, Charlton and Law....

Thuram-------Baresi-------Mattheus------Maldini

--Scholes-------------Robson-----------Zidane---

M Laudrup--------Ronaldo (Brazil)----Maradonna

Subs:
Jennings
Cafu
Hansen
Xavi
Messi
Cantona
Shearer

I'm guessing Robbo would the the only really controversial pick in there but my argument would be I have never seen another player with the same desire, drive and commitment as him - and I've only ever seen a handful of players win as many games single handedly.

"The back page of tomorrow's Sunday Mail makes for interesting viewing - it basically says Man United's bid for Phil Jones is in tatters and that Liverpool have stepped in with a £22million offer."

@Jones has chosen to join United, how is Liverpool offering more money going to change his mind? Blackburn cannot force him to join a club that he does not wish to join.

Sydney!

Sydney

I am with you on this. There is a lot of hot air on here from the Liverpool mob about how they may bid more for the player and then some real playground rubbish.
A lot depends on the wording of the contract , if it is a release clause i.e. pay £x and the player is released then Blackburn have little choice. It may take the intervention of the football authorities or even the PFA but I believe it will happen.
This is interesting because I dont believe release clauses have been tested like this before. My reading is that the Blackburn owners are a little upset because they could have got more money , however their problem is they got rid of their two main football administrators who could have advised them. They also were in charge of the club when the new contract with the release clause was signed so cannot claim they did not know about it. They are relatively new to football and appear to think they can start an auction.
There are some key things to consider and ones which Liverpool fans on here obviously havent. SAF came back from his holiday and met not just with Jones but also his parents (who Jones still lives with) that is interesting because it indicates how thorough SAF is and will have had an impression on Jones. The key is that despite Liverpool having offered more and possibly Arsenal as well Jones chose us and rejected all others. Now the Venky's may like an auction but the player has indicated what he wants to do so who really can see him being railroaded to some other club that he doesnt want. In his mind he wants to play for us, he will have been excited and been looking forward to what awaits him, Champions League football. So is he really going to say oh no Liverpool offered more to Blackburn I will go there instead? What sort of person would that make him? Then do Liverpool fans really want to have a player who effectively dismissed their club and has already said he prefers Utd?
I expect this will be settled, the Blackburn owners think they can get more money by likely letting it be known they have higher offers. It gives the chance for other clubs to make spurious offers why not £35M in the hope Utd are made to pay more , use more of their transfer budget. Blackburns owners are consulting lawyers (if we really believe the Daily Mail) however, United have some good lawyers too and if it goes down the court route Blackburn may find court costs eat into the fee.
There is a lot of noise but it will be settled, the player will decide where he goes, he already has.

sanchez 10M+nani(never it will happen)

Samir Nasri is now 4/9 to join United on skybet, despite reports saying that Wenger will not sell arguably his best player of last season to United.

I don't think we'll replace Scholes with a world class signing.

Luka Modric - He's agent claims he'll be staying at WHL next season.

Samir Nasri - Wenger won't sell to United.

Wesley Sneijder - Cost too much and has recently commited himself to Inter.

Either Cleverley will step into Scholes' boots or I can see Rooney dropping back into Scholes' boots and SAF going for another striker.

Believe this if you want, but unfortunately my pal who is a football reporter in Spain has invited me over for a few days next week. While I was chatting I asked him if he had any news on Man United etc. He said Kenny Dalglish has put a VERY large bid in for Sanchez and also includes a current major international player as part of a swap deal. According to my pal Jose, the deal is done and dusted and Liverpool have even sorted out a 12 bedroomed house out for him just outside Liverpool and close to Steve Gerard (Formby maybe ???) as temporary accomodation!!

Who really cares if P Jones comes to us @ 22million lets be honest that sort of money for a squad player is ridiculious esp when we paid around 8-10 for Smalling who is just as good, let the scouse have him at that price. 12-15mil price would be right? How can we justify paying that when Ozil and Khedieira only cost 18mill together and they are top quality.

25 m for jones is too much..he is a good player, but not worth 25m..if we can do this, why we can't bid for modric of sanchez with healthy amount?????
remember, the transfer money will be given once from a club..so, if we use 10-20 million money for one or two more class players, they will help me to make our united more..& extra 10-20m won't be much difficult for a club like united to balance the money..

But with Scholes, Giggs & Van der sar gone, You are weaker, have to believe it! the young ones will take time to adjust to be on the same level as them! Though red whiskey nose can put the never say die & winning mentality in to their minds ( believe me it will take time, every one joining UTD won't be same as Hernandez)
UTD will not win the title next season, LFC or MCFC will take it. Arsenal won't be even in the top four!

also, will anyone want to do business with them again knowing they could be messed around by their total lack of footballing knowledge?

and if they make him stay there despite the clause, could it be considered illegal?

SK {Ed012's Note - Its not a lack of football knowledge its a legal issue- it's their lawyers who have done this. Venky's will just tell their lawyers and football agencies to sort it all out which can have it's problems

And regarding illegality, it depends on the terms in the contract- can't see it I can't say)

Hi Ed, You said that an agent told you they didnt believe release clauses are legally enforcable in the UK. who doesnt believe they are? the Venkys or the agent? Surely it is as it is a clause in a contract of employment that would surely be legally binding as with any job contract?

could it be that employment contracts are different in India and dont mean as much and they think its the same over here? And does this mean the Venky's are really in it for the money? And people think the Glazers are bad. the venkys proved they have no idea when they sacked Allardyce and nearly got the club relegated as a result.

If it came to it could Utd take Blacburn and/or the Venkys to court?
