David De Gea and his long term girlfriend gave an interview on Spanish television last night. They were asked by the host about their future plans regarding marriage and children etc. To which De Gea claimed a proposal may be just around the corner.

His girlfriend the goes on to say that she loves her job in Madrid, doesn't like Manchester much and that is why she still currently lives in the Spanish capital.

On top of this Iker Casillas had another shocker against Schalke midweek and the Madrid fans are on the club's back at the moment which usually equates to splashing some cash.

Say what you will but at the end of the day Man Utd is just a job for De Gea and if he envisages his future personal and family life elsewhere he will leave.

Very unnerving indeed.

If he leaves for personal reasons, such as starting a family, then as much as it will hurt we cannot be truly annoyed.

Let's just make sure we get what he's worth, but I can't see us doing so.

As much as I hate to admit it, I agree with You JMB.

De Gea has been outstanding for us, I hope we get another few seasons out of him and he signs a contract extensions to enable us to get his full value rather than him leaving on a free next summer.

Let's hope he falls for a local lady then!

I suspect that he will sign a new deal and stay for one more year.

Have we ever had interest in Hamsik? Great player who isn't getting a game at Napoli right now.

Just watched the Everton game, James McCarthy is one solid midfielder, he protects the back 4, gets forward can pass the ball and gets stuck in, Daley blind wouldn't lace his boots, just a pity he isn't Dutch

Are you serious? James McCarthy wouldn't be good enough to clean the dirt off cleverlys boots never mind blind.

Blind is twice the player.

No way, blind passes sidewards and backwards and can't put in a decent tackle, McCarthy is under rated, cleverly is hit and miss better off at Aston villa not a united player

Spb James McCarthy isn't a bad player. He has had his injury troubles this year and the Everton team in large has been very poor. He does a lot of the dirty work in midfield and probably could make it at a top club.

Blind on the other hand has had a steady season but he is also playing in a team of higher calibre players around him and in a system which suits him to the ground.

I think it is unfair to compare the two but to say McCarthy is a bad player shows no understanding of the game.

Agree jmb, if you have a few creative players in a team you need a workhorse who can break up play and pass off the ball gives balance to the team And that's what we need

Personally L12 I think our midfield at the moment is suffering from a lack of physicality.

As has been well documented we would all love Pogba but I would not be suprised to see William Carvalho come in because he is a mountain of a man with a fierce presence and has ability. If you could coach him in such a way to get the best out of his current attributes he would be CM no player would like to come up against.

Yes that's what we need we are a bit lightweight in midfield, it needs to get sorted in the summer, it will be interesting to see who we bring in to do that role

Isn't that the reason we signed Fellaini? Mountain of a man etc

Ed007,

Interested in your thoughts on McCarthy's progression?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - His career's progressing well but he needs to get out of Everton asap to keep that progression going. How anyone can compare him to Mr Average Daley Blind? Blind was average at Ajax, average for Holland and average for Utd, the problem is his average isn't very good.
A player like McCarthy would bring an urgency back to the Utd team, an urgency that has been lacking for a few years now, someone to hound opposition players and chase the ball down for 90 mins, he would also take some of the workload off Rooney, if there is a MF player doing a lot of the running in MF and breaking up play then Rooney wouldn't need to drop so deep to help out. There hasn't been any urgency or energy in the Utd midfield for at lest 3/4 years now.}

Have to agree with bond. We need a workhorse to take the pressure off. I think him with a cultured passer would work well.

Maybe if his name was Jaimez McCarthyoni, people might appreciate him a bit more.

Evening Eds!

Just wondering if we had any interest in Dragovic(Kiev) and Darmain(Torino)? Would have loved us to go for Balanta and/or Veltman in the january window. Real shame as i believe both will be top notch in a few years.

Thanks in advance!

{Ed002's Note - No.}

Ed are depay and garay genuine possibilities for us in the summer? For me both would improve us greatly. Alves looks psg bound so are we looking at clyne? Personally think Rafael is good and should play ahead of Valencia. We need a midfield man I presume pogba is unlikely and strootman doubtful. I would not say no to koke, carvalho or matuidi. Any ideas on centre mid? Sorry for long message.

Personally I am pleased and relieved to hear that Dani Alves is heading to PSG and not to ourselves. Clyne or Coleman for me are the best two options, I would also look at Carvajal as Madrid look to want Danilo to replace him. any news on the future of Carvajal eds?

Garay I agree would be good, he is quick, authoritative and good on the ball. Would work well with our primary target Hummels.

As for midfield I think we ought to get two players. I would take a punt on Gundogan who seems keen to join and for the other maybe someone like Lars Bender who is a good defensive midfielder.

{Ed001's Note - they would accept decent offers for Carvajal, but they are not looking to sell him. Though any movement on Varane or other defenders would almost certainly end any chance of them selling Carvajal.}

12 Mar 2015 17:11:28
Cheers Ed. As I have said all along though, I think that Clyne is the primary target and probably that is rightfully so, very promising young English fullback. Great buy if we can do a deal.

Carvajal is twice the player Clyne will ever be.

This is what bugs me about Madrid. They have a great young, homegrown fullback with bags of ability and potential in Carvajal but are willing to let him go just to see a new face on the team sheet next season.

To be fair I think we could learn from the way Madrid do business in terms of the way they can be ruthless with underperformers, players past their peak or even when they cash in on players who have peaked to their highest (Di Maria, Ozil, Higuain) for grand sums to reinvest. But when you see them ready to throw aside Carvajal for a player of similar or even lesser standing is pitiful.
