"Gerrard twice the player Scholes was" dear me. Some of the best players around don't agree.
By your thinking then Plymouth, Giggs, rio and vidic are all world class also?
Go to a corner and have a quiet word with yourself.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Gerrard was and is clearly a world class player, just because Fergie said otherwise to irate pool fans doesn't mean he isn't.

You can't use quotes players gave Scholes when he retired to back up your arguement, Gerrard will get the exact same treatment when he retires, it's called respect.

Agree0 Disagree0

Except said players said that about scholes 5-6 years ago

Agree0 Disagree0

When he retired? You don't know what your talking about Plymouth. And yet you apply your arguement to one player when it suits you yet not others from a different club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Supasub, I don't get what you're getting at, I said Scholes was clearly a world class player, this all started when Sam made a stupid comment on saying Gerrard isn't world class, he's carried Liverpool for the most part of his career scoring many important and match winning goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

Zidane's word is good enough for me. I think he might know a good midfielder if he seen one. Enjoy the rest of the season boys.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gerrard put in worldclass performances over a few years. You keep ure twisting ure argument with every post to suit ure argument.

The reason Gerrard is not thought of like Scholes is because of what they won. Yes Gerrard carried u for a number of years but to the only thing of note he won was a flukey CL. He was and is a top player but Scholes is thought of in much higher terms and always will be.

Agree0 Disagree0

So Plymouth your not saying that Scholes wasn't world class but gerrard still is and is twice the player Scholes was because he can tackle? That's what you've put in your posts. This is why our countries football, expectations and the whole bottom to the top is as it is. Dear me. None of us come on here spouting that Giggs, vidic and rio are world class, I'm not even sure it's relevant. Yet I know one thing after your post. I couldn't see gerrard in any one of the top. 3 or 4 clubs line ups in Europe as it stands. It's up for debate about how good he was but not many people will be bothered outside our country now or after. He's referred to as a "great athlete", "modern footballer" when spoken about by fellow internationals.
It goes a long way of explaining why our football is at the level it is now with discussions like this one.
Ridiculous.

Agree0 Disagree0

They were both top notch players. let's leave it at that boys.

Agree0 Disagree0

Guys cool down Gerrard and Scholes are both world class players end of Gerrard has carried Liverpool apart from when Alonso was there and Scholes was Uniteds main man aswell

Agree0 Disagree0

What I suggest PR is that if you don't want to get stick for saying such things don't come on the united site and stick to your own . You seem to post more on ours for some reason.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gerrard is one of the few pool players I wouldve loved at united

Agree0 Disagree0

Plymouth, football is a game of opinions; and it is my opinion that Gerrard isn't world class. That is not in any way meant to be a disrespectful comment; or a comment intended to irritate Liverpool fans'; that is just my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sam my point is your only saying that because Fergie said it, it's quite evident he's world class.

Supasub, I didn't say he's better just because he can tackle, I said he has all what Scholes had and more hence the ability to tackel.

CTR, I take it the 99' European cup was a fluke then?

Agree0 Disagree0

All the quotes from big players/managers about Scholes were before he retired PR.

Gerrard was world class player no doubt about it, and he's been immense this season yet again but there's no doubt Scholes was the more gifted of the two.

Two players that aren't world class though, Skrtel and Sahko haha!

Agree0 Disagree0

Some quotes for Steven:
1. To me he is one of the super best midfielders in the world. He is an excellent player- Pelé
2. He has become the most influential player in England, bar none. Not that Vieira lacks anything, but Gerrard does more. - Alex Ferguson
3. He is undoubtedly one of the best midfield players in the world. -Carlo Ancelotti .
4. "Is he the best in the world? He might not get the attention of (Lionel) Messi and Ronaldo but yes, I think he just might be. He has great passing ability, can tackle and scores goals, but most importantly he gives the players around him confidence and belief. You can't learn that -- players like him are just born with that presence." - Zinedine Zidane

Agree0 Disagree0

PR, I am saying it because that is what I think. I wasn't aware of SAF opinion of Gerrard.

Agree0 Disagree0

Funny how you worded it exactly the same way SAF did, take your red tinted glasses off.

Agree0 Disagree0

To me both are top top players in the prem, however gerrard is better at tackling and general midfield play but scholes is a better footballer. Ideally this should of been England's center mid for years. Both great players neither are zidane for example who was truly world class

Agree0 Disagree0

Well done red rain. The Scholes quotes would struggle to fit on the page though. I like the pele one especially since he once said that Butt was the best england player in the same team that contained gerrard.

Agree0 Disagree0

This whole World Class thing is ridiculous. It can't be defined and is completely subjective.

Both are/were trophy laden, international footballers who were vital in every success their club had/is having. That's it.

I'm surprised by Valencia's comments, he has played a fair bit but has hardly shone. Does he want out, is he unsettled?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If he has come out and said he's unhappy/unsettled he wants to take a step back and realise he's lucky to be playing for United at all, he's hardly a world beater and judging by his performances last couple years he can go on his bike and we will replace him with an actually talented right sided winger! That's my thoughts anyway ha!

The majority on here feel the need for two holding midfielders, but I don't. It doesn't offer enough fluidity going forward for me, it is essentially a defensive ploy with a twist, so to speak. for those who have played and/or analysed the game, a three man midfield (tight, i.e. central) is more than enough to offer sufficient protection to the 2 CB's.

ONE holding midfielder with great awareness and positional sense allows the full back to advance and the two CB's to become an outlet when in possession. That holding CM needs to be able to hold a position where they're able to support the CBs (almost as a three when possession is lost). Carrick plays this role, however, I feel he is a little too slow, a little lacklustre in the tackle, and although his ball retention is good, he isn't the man for this role versus the elite opposition, he gets over run.

This one man holding strategy then allows the other two CMs to become more influential when in possession because they have more freedom to get into the danger areas higher up the pitch, again, providing this is done with awareness to the situation, hence why I've gone with one slightly advanced in the formation (as Barca do with Xavi and Iniesta, if one goes, the other sits slightly deeper). This gives our top quality playmakers, Kagawa and Mata opportunities to link up, get into dangerous areas and create scoring opportunities.

This is the next major point. Look at Bayern, Barca, Madrid. They play modern tactics, yet still have pacey, wide natured forwards offering quick, direct attacks. However, this tactic needs quality players with end products. Valencia and co will not suffice. End product is key. Adnan fits the bill, as does a Reus, Drazler and so on. For me, these advanced wide positions are key! They are where your creative CM's look to play key passes, where opponents tire and let their runners go, and where defenders daren't make a challenge.

I have put Rooney up top, that open to debate. However, his record speaks for its self. As does RVP's. But for me, Mata and Kagawa must play together. They play so well together when they are both fluid and narrow.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That team isn't any better than the team we have now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shaw isn't a better option than Evra?
Garay isn't a better option that Smalling/Jones/Evans to partner one of them?
Carvalho isn't a better option than Carrick?
Reus isn't a better option than Young/Nani/Valencia?

I think your comment is a little silly TBH. If you're unrealistic and think we are able to sign 7 or 8 World class players to fit in, and don't think the above mentioned players are an improvement then I think you need to have a word with yourself! I am surprised, your comments are usually spot on in my eyes, generally speaking!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney how can you say that's not better than what we have now? We have conceded Probabily 50% of our goals down the left hand side this year, evra has been a disaster. Shaw is much much more solid. Our CB pairing have been all over the place and Garay would instill a solid, ball playing figure with experience for jones or smalling to play with. Carvalho to play the holding midfield role, much much better than either Carrick or fletcher( both long past it ). Reus is a better player than Nani, Valencia, young or janazaj.

Your making yourself sound a bit stupid here for a fella who usually talks sense for the most part of it. The only thing I would change is Probabily another CM to play alongside Carvahlo in the 2, with reus, mata and kags playing the 3 behind one of rvp or Rooney

Stand-united

Agree0 Disagree0

The thing with bringing in quality players is that it offers the team the luxury of being able to adapt to each match. In general, I wouldn't ever want us to play with two semi holding midfielders. Look at Barca, they absolutely smashed City at the Etihad. The reason the likes of Barca, Real, Bayern are so good, and so dominant is down to not only their players (as you could argue on paper City are as strong as Barca), but their approach. They play a high line, They play 1 out and out holding midfielder (Busquets in this eg), and the other 5 press very high up the pitch, particular the top 3 forwards. the two CMS (Kagawa and Mata for me) would also press high up, resulting in or DCM and CBs playing a really high line, with our full backs 'up the arse' of the opposition wingers. This completely breaks down counter attacks, retains possession higher up the pitch, thus resulting in more territorial advantage, in turn leading to more chances created!

Reus said it perfectly following Dortmunds 3-0 smashing of Bayern. He criticised the English mentality of sitting back against strong opposition and showing too much respect. Two holding midfielders is too much respect.

As an arguement to my point, you can only employ this kind of mentality and approach IF you have the players! Look at them from down the road today, particularly first half. The had Sterling, Suarez and Sturridge pressing high up and the two CMS also pressing high with Gerrard slighly deeper to pick up the pieces and break down attacks. City had no reply first half, it was exactly how Barca played at the Etihad. Food for thought!?

Agree0 Disagree0

I completely agree with your idea mate. Makes a lot of sense if you think about it. Why have have one creative CM when you can pack the midfield with two? As well as having the extra player to link up with. I would rather have Mata and kagawa linking up well and creating things instead of say Kroos?

I know Mata and kagawa aren't the best defensively but the two tracking back are as good as one CM who can tackle. This also allows you the ability to play Rvp, Rooney, Mata and kagawa to play in the same team if Adnan is dropped maybe coming on the 2nd half.

The only problem is finding that right defensive holding midfielder with the ability and positioning awareness to play this role, Carvalho could be an option but he's unproven. Obviously in an ideal world it would be Vidal.
I think Schneiderlin would be the perfect fit. Rated as the Premier leagues most under valued player. The Frenchman's record is 4.2 tackles and 3.8 interceptions on average per game. He also runs seven miles per game and has so far made more tackles than any other Premier League player.

I think he could easily be swept up for less than 20mil.

Just food for thought.

Agree0 Disagree0

Schneiderlin is more realistic than Kroos Vidal is actually more possible than people think as if he left Juve then they would offer Pogba a better contract and bring in a replacment Schneiderlin to play the Busquets role and Vidal playing the Xavi role of being more advanced Kagawa Mata Januzai in front of him Rooney up front Rodriquez at left back with Jones and Smalling centre back Rafael at right back De Gea in goal

{Ed007's Note - One of the things I've been looking into Pardoe is podcasting and internet radio, maybe running a phone in show for all the sites on a Saturday night to see how it goes.}

Cracking idea that bond, not much about really considering how big United are.

{Ed007's Note - Cheers CTR. I'll keep you updated on it, it's just my usual of trying to get my head round the tech side of things but just like the sites it'll be up to all you if it's a success or not.}

Realisticly I can see Garay 15 Shaw 25 and Schneiderlin 15 Gundogan 20 and Lallana 20 coming in what do you guys think for me I would be great Garay centre back beside Jones Shaw left back Schneiderlin beside Gundogan in midfield would complement Kagawa Mata Lallana up front with Rooney Giggs Ferdinand retire Vidic Evra leaving Fletcher 2.5 million to go with Bebe and Macheda minimul fees Nani 10 million might also leave Anderson 4-5 million

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't see Schneiderlin or Lallana coming in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure this is realistic. Fletcher should stay, as should Rooney. Shaw would be a great signing but difficult given Southampton's demands and Chelsea's interest. I rate Lallana, but not sure it would be 20 mil well spent.

Agree0 Disagree0

And the 27m we spent on Fellaini was well spent?

Agree0 Disagree0

Lallana not good enough

As poster start spending £200m on world class players like some well known computer game it is worth remember that Moyes as already spent a large chunk of that report £150m - £200m budget.
Given we will be competing with all the teams that finishing above along with the best of Europe are poster happy with targets looks Colman and shaw ( should Chelsea not sign him)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think he will have plenty to spend, funds won't be a problem, it will be whether or not teams like Madrid poach the ones we want.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we have a great chance to sign some top class players this year. Barcelona are banned, and even if they appeal, they haven't got a massive budget. Real Madrid obviously have a huge budget as always but they want Aguero or Suarez. Liverpool are not going to spend loads, due to their policy and budget and whatnot. Arsenal are unlikely to sign big names due to no Champions League football and a comparatively small budget, Everton are unlikely to sign any big names due to a small budget. Chelsea are primarily after a striker, which only really leaves City, Bayern and PSG as big transfer rivals. Big summer ahead.

Over the last 3 seasons
Mata played 135 games scored 33
Kagawa played 95 scored 23
Rooney played 118 score 67

How many number 10s in world football score more than Rooney .

Rvp 121 games 84 goals
Falcao 114 games 81 goals

Rvp and falcao average 5 goals a season more than Rooney, while playing number 9 for there teams while Rooney plays all over the spot . I would of thought Rooney assists are much better
Love him or hate him goals are the currency and Rooney makes and scores them .
If we sold Rooney could we get a player who could play the 10 role and cm and score and make the goals Rooney does .
If we sold rvp could we get player who could replace his goals .

For the record I would keep both the sell Rooney or rvp posts are ridiculous imo

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The trick for Moyes' will be to try and fit them all in.

Maybe with a better CM and defence, we could fit them all in?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think people are looking to blame people from the manager to the players. Our issue is we lack speed as a team in many areas of the pitch and why we have struggled to score as teams are getting back in position due to the slow nature of our build up play.

Both will be needed f we are going to make a run at the league next year.

Agree0 Disagree0

No doubt Rooney is very important, its just frustrating now that we have Mata. Mata is going to have to play as an inside forward, I just hope he adapts. I'd love Reus to complete the three behind RVP.

Agree0 Disagree0

Our issues are the players, manager and speed. let's start with the manager first, then buy the players who have the speed.

Agree0 Disagree0

We can play with a much more fluid set up if we have a better CM. Mata playing on the wing can play much more centrally as firstly, he will need to defend less and also Shaw or Bernat will provide great width.

Hi eds and all regular posters,

How do you think Cristian Eriksen has got on this season in the Premiership? Would we turn to him if say Kroos and Koke are unavailable? Eriksen is a good passer of the ball and has a good shot on him, just the sort of player we need - but is he quite good enough?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It has not been a good year for him but I don't see MU making a move for him.}

I think he has done well when you take the circumstances in to account, looked good to me

Agree0 Disagree0

Just trying to think of alternatives to Kroos or Koke, both of which aren't overly likely. Ed, who do you think we would move for if not either of those two? We certainly need a passer.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Rakitic, Herrera and can't think of anymore that are likely others are Verratti, Gundogan and Moutinho. Maybe Dembele or Schnederlin}

Ed004

Pjanic from Roma is also very good litre player. I also like the Clasie although maybe a year or 2 too early might be a good shout but not an immediate fix.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Heard good things about Pjanic but does he not play the most advances of a midfield with De Rossi and Strootman. Not much defending there to do}

13 Apr 2014 18:24:21
Eds. news in the media that Moyes is looking to extend Evra's contract. Any info regarding this? I feel the club is going backwards if this is correct.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I know nothing of it, sorry.}

If Evra signs a new deal I will literally jump off the nearest bridge. Evra should have been replaced 3-4 season's ago.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't get caught in a tree Sydney my mate did three years ago Evra can really push people over the edge

Agree0 Disagree0

The only reason I'd want Evra to stay at the club is if his job is to keep the trophies clean and polished, even then he'd probably do a half arsed job.

a few observations I made over the weekend and so far today
Powell far from looking like our great hope he looked more like a pretty immobile slightly overweight pub player. That may seem like a very harsh assessment but on yesterdays evidence alone its fair.
Liverpool at this time are a better team with better players in their first 11 than we have and they are all playing with great confidence. I urge all posters on here to acknowledge that fact and not to blame refs or luck for their current position. They deserve to be where they are because they play the best football. The big challenge for them is to sustain that for a longer period than 1 season, I think they will struggle to do that for a multitude of reasons.
Matic would not have improved our midfield dramatically IMO
Arsenal look doomed but often bounce back in the nick of time for 4th and I think they will do the same this year.

Ken

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Liverpool are a better team, but they do not have better players. Confidence is massive in football, look at Arsenal. There is a difference in a confident Arsenal and an Arsenal struggling. And it's the same Arsenal that keep going from good to poor, from poor to good and so on. Arsenal are struggling mentally now and we have been struggling mentally all season with our loss of SAF. Whereas Liverpool are playing with pure confidence, they are injury-free (key players) and they do not have to juggle Europe. Add that to it being a poor league at the moment with only Liverpool improving and everyone else stagnating or regressing.

We will spend big in the summer, but I cannot see us improving immensely until we change the manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

First half the scouse where excellent still fancy Chelsea for the title but I have a horrible feeling the scouse might get it

Agree0 Disagree0

Ken

City played the best football and defended like muppets today. Say what you want they have been gifted penalties and today the referring is a farce and should have sent hanibal off and awarded city at least one penalty maybe 2.

It would be an injustice to the other teams in this league if a team of serial divers win the league.

I still don't have any doubts they will not win the league and the pain of it will be quite funny with each week passing and them getting closer and believing they are going to do it.

I agree powel is some ways away from being a first team player and he is no scholes as some here want to believe.

Finally before any Scousers or bleeding heart United fans who are suddenly admirers of this lot come out and defend them, please save your love and admiration and go post it on the Liverpool page and you can all hold hands and go to the next game we play each other.

I did bet them to win funny enough but still hated it :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool have Suarez who is truly world class, Gerrard probably is also in that bracket. Skrtel, Johnson, Mignolet, Coutinho etc are all good players. The difference is Rodgers, he is a very good manager who plays with very good tactics - he plays a style that is enjoyable for his players to play and that is what we are seeing right now. We have more class players but Moyes hasn't done it for us so far.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Rodgers has adapted from his previous methods this year and is still learning. His great desire is to one day get a job at Real Madrid or Barcelona and he is still young.}

Ed 002 you forgot United!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, that's interesting, I think he will get there in the end actually. He has great style with the way he gets his teams to play.

Agree0 Disagree0

BR has not bought too many players to suit his style, he has more or less inherited players and played them the way anyone would have done.

How would you play Suarez, Sturridge & Sterling?

What BR has done well is install belief and he has got the players playing to the best of their abilities.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Apr 2014 16:29:33
Sydney, how can you say Suarez is our only world class player? Gerrard despite his age is clearly world class, have you seen his performances of late? Skrtel and Sakho are both world class defenders who would get into any premier league side and then there's Lucas who is immense.

When you look at it, you only have Rooney, RVP and Mata, the reason you're so far behind us now is because Ferguson has left and this is what happens when you don't have the refs in your back pocket.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

In fairness to Liverpool, Brendan Rodgers is doing exactly what SAF did with us - made a brilliant team with average players. We had too many average players with one or two highlights of quality like De Gea and RVP - the same is happening with Liverpool. The right tactics combined with confidence and one or two world class highlights.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pr, I agree but I would like to think that the gea and januzaj are not far off too.
But hands off to Liverpool and br, he's taken average players and turned them into potential champions, done with good team tactics, modern football, true team spirit. So credit where credit is due.
I've said since midway thru the season that people have been underestimating Liverpool.

Agree0 Disagree0

Skrtel and Sakho world class? LOL.

I know you must be thrilled right now but behave yourself please ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

What an personic post Plymouth. As a fellow LFC fan stop embarrassing us. We have had some decisions go our way - although they do even themselves out (Stirling off-side in game at ethihad)

Agree0 Disagree0

Ply red = delusions of grandour

Agree0 Disagree0

Skrtel and sakho are not world class, they are nowhere near, ridiculous statement.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeh syd all Liverpools players are worldclass! To go along with there worldclass manager, and worldclass stadium!

Honestly this coming from a guy postin on our page when his team is playing!

Sakho worldclass laughable!

Agree0 Disagree0

The term world class is used far too loosely these days. The above post is a classic example. Gerrard probably was 6 years ago, but not now. But Skyturtle and Sakho? This is clearly a wind up from a gloating fan of a team who have won nothing yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

To define world class would mean they would be picked in a world 11 unfortunately there isn't a player in the EPL that would get in the side inc Suarez, gerrard Rooney, aguero, ozil, RVP are all top players but never world class, Ronaldo, Messi and ibra all better than the forwards mentioned, xavi, iniesta, shwinstiger, rues, gogdugan, all better, then pique, alba, chellini, Ramos all better again. So stop getting carried away with your fantastic season. Good players but not world class and your find that out next season in the champions league!

Agree0 Disagree0

"Skrtel and Sakho are world class defender's" - LMFAO. Seriously, PR, you are talking rollox mate. Skrtel is a good defender, as is Sakho; but to call them World Class is a joke.

Suarez is your only WC player ATM. Sterling has the potential to be WC, but that still remains to be seen. I have never thought Gerrard WC. He is a top player, but he couldn't lace Scholes boots, who has been the only WC English CM player in the past decade, IMO.

We will finish above your mob next season; of that I have no doubt. You don't have the financial muscle to remain at the top.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah Fergie was crap. We only had 26 years of unparalleled success because we bought / bullied all the refs.

As for world class players the Prem has less than you think:
A fully fit RVP at United
Suarez at Liverpool
Hazard at Chelsea
and the reason why they will likely still win the league, Aguero, Silva and Toure at Citeh.

Agree0 Disagree0

Plymouth, it's a bunch of decent players playing with confidence. You have one world-class player in Suarez, but to be fair when a team are playing well, fear free and enjoying themselves on the pitch, you don't need world-class players. The problem is when you have a team playing at their best and fear free, when you have a blip, it may be hard to recreate the same level. Suarez leaving, injuries to Sterling and/or Gerrard and you could go quickly from hero to zero. Look at us, we did it under Moyes. This is your best chance to win the league, you will not get a chance like this again for a while IMO. Everyone will improve a lot next season and you will need to juggle Europe too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Plymouth, why aren't you in town, on the Hoe or in Mutley watching your team?

Agree0 Disagree0

Sahko world class! ha. ha

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe I went a bit OTT on Skrtel and Sakho but as I said they would get into any premier league side, Sakho was and is extremely highly rated within France, he will be a colossus player for Liverpool.

If Gerrard isn't world class now because of his age, then you're saying Scholes wasn't world class for the last 5 years of his career? Pirlo isn't world class? .

Sam, you're hilarious, Gerrard is not
world class? he seems like your just repeating what said to irate pool fans, are you that far up his arse? Gerrard is twice the player Scholes was, Gerrard has all the abilities Scholes has, as well as the ability to TACKLE.

Haven't got the financial muscle to compete? we've competed with the two richest teams in the league all season on a minimal budget, if we win the league along with getting CL we will be in a much healthier financial state in the long term, add that to FSG's vision we're in safe hands.

It doesn't matter who you buy in the summer, if you stick with moyes you're not going to get anywhere, he isn't called dithering dave for no reason.

Agree0 Disagree0

I sat this one in Syd, the old man came around.

Agree0 Disagree0

Plymouth Red, Chelsea, City, Spurs & ourselves all have a new manager onboard. We will all improve and Liverpool will need to do the same.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why was most of what I said in response to Sam edited out? it wasn't offensive, it makes my post look completely stupid.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I guess the Ed thought it to be unacceptable. But we are not going to argue about it.}

Gerrard twice the player Scholes was? Either you're very petty and will say anything for the sake of oneupmanship or you don't have the first clue what you're talking about. As for Sakho and Skrtel getting into any side in the Premiership, do yourself a favour and have a sit down.

Agree0 Disagree0

As I said PR = deluded.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've been ridiculed on this site for saying that Rodgers is the best manager in the EPL. It is now Liverpool's title to lose. If they win it will those who disagree still be hiding their heads in the sand?

It pains me to say it but with Moyes as our manager it looks like we have been left with a second rate and old fashioned thinker. May next season prove me wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool are just in form not world class

Plymouth red, you are embarrassing your self mate. Seriously. You haven't won anything yet; and I suspect you won't. You have had a great season and played some top football; but a little perspective wouldn't go a miss.

Next season, you will be in the champions league. That means that you will have to play three games a week. Your squad is no where near big enough to compete on all fronts; thus you will have to spend big. That means a total re-think of how you operate in the transfer market: you need to offer more wages and bigger fee's for top players'. That also means you will have to pay upfront, and not offer a piecemeal deal where the selling club gets the money in instalments, which is why you lose out on so many players' to bigger clubs, who can afford to offer more money and the money up front.

As for Steven Gerrard: I don't think he is world class, let-alone better than Scholes was. I would personally put Lampard in front of Gerrard. That is just my opinion of course.

Liverpool are still a massive club in terms of tradition etc; but you are not in the same league as us, Chelsea, City or Arsenal when it comes to finances. This is why I believe that next season, you will finish outside the top four. We are going to strengthen massively in the summer, as will Chelsea. City will sort their defence out; and I suspect Arsenal will buy a top striker and CM. That leaves your lot, who will have to bring in at least 4 top players' in the summer, which I doubt you will be able to pull off.

Enjoy it while you can Plymouth, because it might be another couple of decades before your in this position again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Paddy, fact of the matter is world class or not we've been playing like this for 18 months. We've swopped positions with United playing in a style you cannot achieve under Moyes.

Suck it up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wavertreered there was me standing up for Liverpool and you abuse me and Samthered Champions League extra 20 million hello add that to the fact Liverpool have another 30-40 that's 3 top class players mainly a left back midfielder right back at 20 million a piece that's still enough to make liverpool challenge on Champions League and in Premier in terms of cups they will play players like Alberto Aspas Borini

Time for a very fun questions mainly designed to irritate people :) If Madrid win the League and CL do you think Ronaldo will have achieved his goals and come back to OT to help us out? ;)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - Nope and for what he'd cost we may be better off signing 3-4 other players}

Not if he constantly has to practice defending corners and free kicks in training instead of scoring from them he won't!

Agree0 Disagree0

Worth asking ;) haha.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ronaldo may have come back if Madrid do the La Liga/CL double. But only if we were in champs league ourselves and more importantly Fergie was still manager. It's never going to happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez and Gerard are world class. I'm sorry but Gerrard has adapted to that role amazingly fast and is playing that role superbly already. Our team are not "average" they are all great players but the difference is we have passion which money can't buy. The scholes comment is laughable.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why worry about Ronnie? That ship has gone and he won't be coming back. Even spending what RM would want is madness. Better to sign 2 or 3 decent players, we could certainly do with them. Ronnie in Red is a beautiful thought, but I could never see it happening.

Agree0 Disagree0

Red twist apart from posting on the wrong sight ie the united one! Your responding to the wrong post!

Liverpool by far the better side up until the 30th minute, very lucky to go in at 2.0, then City were by far the best for the rest of the game. If it wasn't for poor individual errors by the City captain today and the referee bottling it, things could have been very different. It seems an absolute gift by Kompany is going to give Liverpool the points. More than one Kompany gift to be fair. He's had an Evra of a game today ;)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Suarez was disgusting today. His first big dive was really bookable but the ref bottled it and he went on to dive at least 3 more times. But the ref could have given the pen and didn't, and City should have had a pen. That's football.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is football. It is a shame Clattenburg wasn't brave enough today, but like you said that's football.

Agree0 Disagree0

Unsurprisingly you haven't mentioned all the terrible decisions that has gone man city's way this season. You also forgot to mention the two penalties we could of had. Although suarez did dive at one point which wasn't good to see.

Agree0 Disagree0

You must not like a lot what he does then!

I am sat at home flicking between tv and the game and I am so angry, and United aren't even playing! This should be us here today playing for the title again, rather than sitting in 7th. Fair play to Liverpool, but as a club we have been so complacent over the last few years. How on earth have we let this happen? You can blame the owners, managers past and present, the players but we have been complacent as a club.
Our biggest failure on the pitch has been the refusal / failure to but quality midfielders. The last one prior to Fellaini was Owen Hargreaves in 2008, and that is nothing short of pathetic. Todays game is not over, and City are not yet out of it, but it is looking like Liverpool now have the title in their hands. If that happens they will deserve it, as much as it hurts to say it. It hurts even more to see it.
The only good that can come out of this for us is that United as a club MUST react and undergo a big shake up this summer. Decisions must be made about several players along with the manager and backroom staff. We cannot afford another transfer window of innactivity and excuses, and the same goes for the manager. No more excuses, sob stories of bad luck or penny pinching in the transfer market.
United are still the glamour club of English football, but we no longer are the powerhouse on the pitch. We are a Lambourghini with a diesel engine under the bonnet (yes I know its in the back!).
We must act this summer and make a statement of intent. Rant over.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hargreaves was 2007. Even longer!

Wow, Kompany really is poor today.

Agree0 Disagree0

Very good post Betty.
Not good enough. We need a complete overhaul of the squad and backroom staff and manager .u only need to look at Rodgers and Martinez philosophy in terms of good football. Moyes is far to defensive as gto be fair to him all he has ever known is trying to not get beat or at least limit the damage by bigger teams.
I totally agree with all written in the post.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kompany played just like Rooney does when carrying a knock. Henderson will be a miss now though for them.

Agree0 Disagree0

All these games do is remind us just how far behind we are. Don't bother counting points, just look at the quality City and Liverpool have on the pitch. Wind up or not from the scousers, we do look like a mid table side, albeit one of the better ones. We need to get our summer spending done early and hope they gel quickly. We have a very long journey back to the top!

Agree0 Disagree0

Draig, that's two "very good post Betty" in the last week or so! So does that mean that you now acknowledge that I am not actually David Moyes? I am flattered that I now have your approval! lol :)

Agree0 Disagree0

OT7, do you mean Suarez? He's the only world-class player Liverpool have. Coutinho, Sturridge and Sterling are good players who are currently playing well and are full of confidence. They also are quick players and that is something that is really troubling defences this season. On paper it's hard to see a lot of quality in the Liverpool side. All these players were there last season when we finished 29 points ahead of them. When a group of players are playing well for their manager, this is what happens. They are pumped up and they are playing very well together. Players at MU do not want to play for Moyes. You have to give Liverpool credit, but what a difference confidence can do.

I have a sneaky suspicion Moyes may leave in the coming weeks. If we are going to build a side, then I think MU will want a more accomplished manager doing the build. We will see.

Agree0 Disagree0

Betty

As a club we have taken our eye off the ball. Since Ronaldo was sold we haven't bought the standard of players we should have, focussing instead on signing sponsors
The owners then allowed SAF to chose his successor in an amateur transition exercise, the successor being blatantly the wrong choice.
We are now left with a team that needs attention and a second rate leader who inspires no one.

Stability without verve will bring us nothing

This summer the owners have a decision to make and they need to be decisive, the near future of the club depends on what they do. They urgently need to start with a new dynamic manager who will unite the fans and show the leadership we need and the owners need to show the same ambition for the football side as they do for new sponsors.

The league is painful right now but decisions at the highest level have left us in the mess we are in right now and they need to take the first step to putting it right this summer

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd, I agree about Moyes. The general concensus is that he will be given 2 or 3 seasons at least. But I think, especially if Liverpool do win the league, a huge shake up may be on the way at OT. This will only serve as a huge kick up the arse for United. Fannying around waiting for Moyes to "grow into the job" could mean that we fall even further behind, and we just cannot afford that. Our squad is not as bad as many make out. We are only 4 or 5 players away from competing at the top, but we need a manager who can inspire and re-instill confidence in the players that we have. Someone who is more positive both in football trms AND in personallity.
We must get it right in all aspects this summer, as another wasted transfer window and continued inept management could see us falling so far behind that it could take a decade to recover. That is simply not acceptable for Manchester United. We need to act, and act quickly and decisively.

Agree0 Disagree0

Betty, red man. I'm with you on the management. And I too agree that the players we have are not the best but they're also not a 7th position team. We have seriously underachieved.
We've scored the same amount of goals at home as Stoke and fewer than west ham! That is utterly ridiculous when you see the talent in our attacking players. How did these players stop scoring goals? You have to ask the manager?!
I posted a long time ago and said the worst thing we can do as a club is rto become "apathetic". Unfortunately, the owners, management and consequently the players themselves have been exactly that.
Change has to come from the top and the board have got to get their collective heads out of the sand and make the right decisions.
First decision is to sack the incompetent manager and all his staff, and appoint a man who is qualified and can handle this job, and once that is done, then we can start on the road to recovery. Until then, we will continue to go downhill.

Agree0 Disagree0

Red Man, I have thought for a while now that MU will be patient with Moyes and give him another season, but a massive part of me now believes that if they are going to have a massive spend, then they may want someone more qualified to do the building. I think they initially took Moyes on thinking continuity will be enough to see us keep plodding along with moderate spends, however Moyes changed the backroom staff, changed the scouting network and there has been no continuity. There has been massive upheaval and the manager does not have the backing of all of the players. The team this season have not wanted to play for this manager and that is not what you want to build a team around. Now we have to spend big, I believe we may well see a change of manager now, even if we win all five games left. I think SAF and the Glazers made a blunder here and I think it needs to be nipped in the bud.

Agree0 Disagree0

BS, I agree. Look how BR is getting the Liverpool players playing. They are playing at 100% and they are talking advantage of a poor EPL this year. Even last year. Probably only Liverpool have improved this season, everyone else have regressed or stagnated. BR has inspired this same bunch of lads who finished 29 points behind us last season. The MU players are not inspired playing under Moyes. Moyes has fallen out with several players and the team are deflated. Last season we needed to strengthen, but at least SAF was getting 100% out of the players. This season Moyes is getting probably 60% out of these players. They simply lack inspiration and if we spend £100m on players and they too aren't inspired, then we will not improve. Bring in a new manager, bring in some top players and we will be a different side next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need what we've always needed for Fergies successor: a manager with league winning and significant Champs League experience who will play attacking football. I agree with Syd that Moyes may go sooner than folk think. Having not won anything, not reached Champs League semis and not finished Top 4 that's all of Moyes key objectives for the season failed. Whilst I know nothing of Moyes contract other than the rather splendid annual total of £4.9m pa that must have significant performance related elements and I suspect if we need to fire him and pay him off it may be considerably cheaper than what you may otherwise think.

Glazers have 3 decisions before them:

Sell or stay?:Is there a sweet spot now where they can sell the club and still make a handsome profit? Appreciate that needs someone with £1-1.5Bn spare.

Invest £200m we need to get 5/6 world class instant first teamers we need?

Invest said riches with Moyes in charge or look for someone who maybe more 'trustworthy' with it. Technically we've spent just £30m less than City, a team who we were 11 points clear of last year and yet we are languishing so very far behind.

In an ideal world we'd get new owners (Dear Qatari Royal Family), a new manager with the attacking traditions our club demands AND a mega spending spree.

It's the most interesting summer for nigh on 30 years for sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney, my main worry is that Moyes stays and spends 150-200M on naff players then gets sacked. No more money for a new manager to spend.
Rogers has got his team playing fast attractive football and Moyes doesn't know how to do that, so I doubt any amount of money will help. Is there anyone on the board strong enough to out him? I wouldn't bet on it!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney

I hope you are right, the owners are businessmen and right now surely they have sufficient doubt about trusting Moyes with a massive spend. It is an absolutely massive moment in our history, stick with Moyes and I truly believe we will take a massive step backwards at a time when our fiercest rivals are going forward. Inspiration is a key point and I have kept referring to an inspirational leader being required, actually it is imperative

One aspect people should consider is unity, I don't believe Moyes can unite the players and the fans, he will always be one defeat away from ridicule and has already lost the confidence of many of us. We need a unifying leader who has the right credentials and that no one doubts, I want to believe but can't with Moyes. If we don't deal with it I fear we will have some time in the shadows watching others win the prizes.

Agree0 Disagree0

OT7, I agree.

Agree0 Disagree0

Red Man, I cannot believe that all parties at board level are happy with Moyes continuing. I think SAF and Sir Bobby are keeping this going longer than it needs to be. I hope MU have been clever and installed some sort of escape clause. For example, if we were to finish outside the top four then could there be a mutual agreement for the club and Moyes to part ways? The Glazers are a few things, but one thing they aren't is stupid. I bet there's a clause in Moyes current deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney

I agree, I also hope they have a clause but even if they don't they still need to make the right decision or it could cost them far more than the amount of paying off a poor manager and hiring a new one.

If they leave it as it is there will be little enthusiasm at the start the new season and that must be a concern.

City are all over the place. Cannot string two passes together. Talk about bottling it. Kompany so overrated even if he has got no decent partner. Liverpool were never going to lose today, not after the build-up.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Kompany is quality, the reason City are all over the place is because how we play, look at what happened to Arsenal, Everton, Spurs and you lot when you played us, it's about time people start giving the 2014 premier league champions the credit they deserve.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kompany is quality, but very slow and having a mare today. To be fair he does need a better partner.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez shouldn't even be on the pitch, but I bet you he wins a dodgy penalty late on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kompany still is the best CB in the league. And City are playing much better in the 2nd half

Agree0 Disagree0

If Kompany is the best centre back in the Premiership then it's a sad indictment of the quality of defending. His positional play is poor and he relies far too much on flying into last ditch tackles. He is also so slow on the turn. The frustration of seeing two teams with well dodgy back-fours battling it out for the league is really hard to take.

Agree0 Disagree0

Plymouth red - lol! Even though I say it through gritted teeth ( not brand new shiny ones like Rodgers ) Liverpool have unfortunately played some really good attacking football. You may well win it but your fat lady in Plymouth is singing too early! I await the scouse love in from the biased media if you do.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jose will go to Anfield and win.

Agree0 Disagree0

With Terry, Ivanovic and Cahill in defence I am going for a 4.0 Liverpool win. I think Suarez to score first and Liverpool to win 4.0 will give me great odds.

Agree0 Disagree0

What? You actually sound like you want Liverpool to win the league.

Of course not, I just think they will beat Chelsea comfortably. I hope I'm wrong.

Negredo and Aguero on the bench and Pellegrini starts with Dzeko. Yaya goes off and they bring on someone even slower (Garcia). What is Pellegrini doing? Apart from looking like an 'A Team' villain. Liverpool deserve their lead, but they have held on towards the end of the half. City have picked the wrong day to bottle it. Liverpool's to lose now.

@Ed002,

Do you know if there is any truth in the reports that Ed Woodward stayed back after the Bayern game to hold talks about Toni Kroos?

{Ed002's Note - Try the search engine.}

MU have held talks with BM and BM told MU that they didn't want to sell Kroos.

http://www.unitedrant.co.uk/latest/moyes-50-failings-in-50-games/

What's worrying is I can think of even more failings, but the one that gets me is number 27:

"I think if I'd brought him off (against Newcastle) some people would say 'What are you doing? You are 1-0 down and you're taking off your top goalscorer, '"

Admitting that he was influenced by what people thought of him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Very good. The latest rumour is Lallana which leads me to ask, where ae we going to play a ore attacking midfielder? He's a decent enough player but if, as was reported, he whinged about a ref telling him 'you've changed since you you've played for England', then I'm not sure he has the cojones for a major club like United

Agree0 Disagree0

Lallana is just what we need a right sided midfielder with pace to complement Mata and Kagawa

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i agree paddy..its getting him thats the problem mate..

AJH yes that would concern me and could he cope with the focus of being at a big club, perhaps that will be on one of the transfer player assessment iPads they are allegedly now using?

GAGUS
There are a lot of worrying ones on there, the needing world class players and make it difficult for Newcastle quotes are howlers. One that rankles is aspiring to be like City, that alone should have been enough to get him the boot.
It was a good read.
