Am I the only who is sick of us buying young promising players that sometime work like ronaldo nani jones but most of the times don't like obertan bebe diof etc I remember when we brought marquee players the rooneys ,ferdinands, keanes now we get linked with them but never get any of them David silva, agguerro, Sanchez the list is endless and now even spurs are linked with world class players like hazard whilst we're linked with Rodwell and James McCarthy !! Do people think its about time we got a truly world class player cos the gap between us and Madrid and barca is getting bigger every year

Mumbles no way is Carrick "lightyears" ahead of Lucas. Also what do you mean the fact he's been one of our best players says it all. He's a quality player, like Agger, Reina, Gerrard, etc so what do you mean? Because he plays a defensive role? What about Jones, Smalling etc. He would get in your first 11 weather you'd like to admit it or not.

I challenge anyone to name me a better player than Lionel Messi. He is an absolute genius and will, even at his young age, go down as one of the greats of the game. {Ed007's Note - Paddy McCourt, The Derry Pele :-)

You're spot on TK. I'm glad we never went down the DM road. The fact is the game is moving on leaps each year. If you do play with a DM he needs to be able to play a bit as well. Carrick has been great plugging up the holes between midfield and defense and is decent going forward too. He's lightyears ahead of Lucas. Lucas shouldn't be anywhere near the starting line up against say Wolves at home and the fact that he's been one of your best players for the last 18 months says it all. Carrick has been a passenger at times but when he's beside Scholes, they boss games

T-K I would definatly take Alonso over Lucas and our downfall started when he left IMO. I do agree about not needing a DM all the time but in the big matches I think they're important. Lucas was immense in the big matches he played this season. Moon the only 3 players on your list that are better than Lucas are Parker, Toure and Essien and non of them are DM there all box to box midfielders who can play DM. Anyway thanks for the opinions guys even though they were a bit bias!

T-K I was comparing Lucas with Carrick as Gav done so in the post I was replying to. Would you really take Carrick over Lucas? I'm suprised by that but we all have opinions.

Gav Carrick wouldn't vastly improve Liverpool at all. Lucas is a better defence mid than him and to even compare him to Steven Gerrard is laughable. Also you say you can't compare him to Charlie Adam, Adam has 10 assists plus 2 shots deflected in, has scored 2 goals and put the ball in for Suarez goal on saturday, that's what I mean about stats can make all players look good. I would take Lucas, Gerrard and Adam ahead of Carrick as a CM and Henderson has the potential to be quality, if you don't believe me ask Fergie. If we are all being honest all of us would take Lucas as a DM over Carrick, Lucas is a regular for Brazil, tipped as a future captain by there current manager and before his injury was clearly the best DM in the country. Anybody have an honest opinion if we stop being bias?

“Barcelona are the best team in Europe, although Real Madrid are closing the gap on them. The lead they’ve got in the league shows that. For the moment Barca have still got that magical ability to play a game that’s beyond everyone else. When Messi, Xavi and Iniesta are on song, they’re just unstoppable.
“We had the ability to go all the way to the final. Luck wasn’t on our side, but we’ve got the ambition to compete with Barcelona and Real Madrid, and I don’t feel we’re that far away from them. I’m sure we’ll show that soon.”
Ferguson defended United’s decision not to spend heavily on ready-made stars, like Wesley Sneijder, in recent years. “We decided to create a structure with young players, like Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Anderson, and we also knew we had some talented youngsters coming through the academy, like Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley,” he said.
“All we’ve had to do since then is build things around a few young players. With that as our strategy we’ve not had to spend huge amounts of money to stay competitive because we’ve already got the talent at home.”

I think probably for summer our shortlist would include:

Eriksen
Martinez
Subotic
Alba

That would probably be ideal. But i think if we are looking more realistically, which we need too, then i think this could be the way we go:

Kovacic
Fellaini
Benatia

I'd be very happy with that for summer, however i would love to add someone like Muniain to the squad. He's a player that i really really like and i think he'd do fantastic at out club.

Countless hours spent trying to get through to sky sports, and recogniseing the fact that they have a problem with my comments. especially with the game on saturday and reflecting bacK to the days when my young son made a choice of which team to support and at 20, still cherishs his first ever United shirt i bought.
i am greatful that i can now be in touch withthe greatest fans and the greatest club there is.
One point on the game on saturday, usually they wheel them out onto the pitch for games against United. WHAT HAPPEND TO GERRARD!!

In the last few days it has been interesting to read the comments on Evans, it made me wonder how many of the posters actually watch games live and see the bigger picture rather than just what is shown on tv. At Chelski, their world famous hard man Torres bullied Evans all afternoon. Every kick out from Cech was won by Torres who simply backed into Evans and controlled the ball, no doubt the tv did not show this, but only showed Torres controlling the ball, not how easily he had out muscled Evans. Time and time again Torres started moves for Chelski by his winning the ball in this manner. Interestingly Torres tried the same thing against Toni when he was at RB and Torres ended on the floor having bounced off of Toni who came away with the ball. Maybe it doesn't sound much but it was the difference between us or Chelski having possession.
Anybody who wasn't at the Chelski game wouldn't have noticed this, so beware on making judgements solely on tv footage, it doesn't tell the whole story.
I think Evans is a decent CB and if he could re-discover his form of 2-3 seasons ago he would be a real asset to us, sadly at the moment he is seen as a stop gap, when he stepped in for Rio and Vida during the VDS 'clean sheet run' he was fantastic.

Sorry to hear about Rangers and must be a terrible time for the fans.

In light of this though, I do remember we had some interest in Jamie Ness. Do you think we would look to do business with Rangers now they need to sell off their assets?

This isn't entirely United related, but which academy do you all think produced the best players from youth teams? Obviously us and Barca but I think Ajax: Cruyff, Van der Sar, Bergkamp, Kluivert, van Basten, Sneijder, van der Vaart, Seedorf

I don't know how many Unites supporters like myself , also follow Celtic?
I bring this up because I heretically thought that with Rangers broke, the best team in Scotland perhaps should join the EPL - as there would be know one left worth playing in Scotland.
However that would cause me problems if they were regularly to play United - tho would always wish them well.
