Hi Ed's, There has been pictures on Twitter today of Ed Woodward on his way to Paris. Does this have anything to do with that guy from Lille?

I read MU officials have a meeting in Bruges so that is where he is likely heading.

Just watching inter v cagliari and Lukaku has just scored with a fabulous header. I do regret that he left Utd and we didn't have the players to make the most of his strengths.

He didn't suit us.

Most always said he's a great goal scorer but he didn't fit the club

I never had an issue with him if you play to his strengths he will score goals.

Glad he left, half of the games he was chasing his own first touch.

I believe that our scouting system and our decision-making need seriously revamped. We identify players from other clubs at a young age when we could pick them up for a modest fee but then we wait until they are big players before taking an interest in them again. I recall us being interested in Dembele at Fulham and he went to Celtic for £500,000. Van Dijk also whom we could have bought for 10m from Celtic had we had the strength of our convictions. The same with David Silva, Aguero, Eriksen at Ajax. The list goes on. Now we have opportunities to buy Edouard for a comparatively modest fee yet we sit on it.

I agree, we seem to miss out on the talented youth across Europe. This could be down to the toxics wanting instant success. Before Daniel James we have to back a good few years to have picked up a relatively unknown player at a bargain fee.

You can’t buy everyone.

What about Henderson from Sunderland who is now a CL winning captain or De Bruyne before he went to Wolfsburg. It’s all hindsight though.

Chelsea have the scattergun approach to picking up youngsters and ‘hoping’ they come good and I think it wrecks careers.

They reality is, players progress into world class players and we have to pay the going rate. Our scouts won’t spot everyone.

On that subject, Marcia in Spain have done an article on Solskji’s Babes, it’s a nice little spin on our current position.

There are a tonne more players like this, we liked with Maguire when he was at Hull etc but people always come back with the "they aren't a united player" always gets me everytime.

Ed02, it's been reported that we've bid for the Birmingham City youngster Jude Bellingham - is there any truth in this?

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I don't know I am afraid. He is only a kiddie as far as I recall.}

Good player, only 16 and scoring goals in the championship.

Take sky sports headlines with a lunch of salt usually, United and Sporting far apart in valuation of Fernandes is one I can believe however and has been said on here before. Let's hope this is not amateur hour at OT again.

I ain't having a lunch of salt, I'd need some chicken or beef to go with it at least.

Deja Vu from the summer WRD.

14 Jan 2020 12:11:17
If we fail to get a deal done for the second window in succession then someone needs to be held accountable. Its no way to do business, and makes others very wary of dealing with us.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Jan 2020 12:37:51
Ed002 has been consistent on this one.

United want the player.
Sporting need money.
Have set a price for the player.
United tried to pressure them into taking a lower offer in the summer.
United are still trying to pressure them into accepting a lower offer.

I don’t think the club know anything but amateur hour at this stage.

The way this is being conducted I wouldn't be surprised to see the negotiations collapse again.

Priceless it really is. if Ole wants the player just pay the fee and get the transfer over the line. I have lost count of the amount of players we never signed over the years because we penny pinch all the time. Clubs like Chelsea, Man City and to a degree Liverpool just pay the fee and get the player. It's just embarrassing, the club from the top down is a complete laughing stock.

Agree5 Disagree0

14 Jan 2020 15:20:26
Yea that’s now business works, just pay whatever they want, £490m if you need to, get it done!

Agree3 Disagree0

14 Jan 2020 15:44:41
Worse still is that we dither that much that when we eventually do sign a player it is out of desperation and usually overpay.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jan 2020 16:36:33
GDS, yeah that’s how business works - you want to buy my best player, I give you a price, you spend the entire summer trying to drive the price down, it doesn’t work and the player signs a new contract with a higher release clause, you come back in January still offering substantially below the asking price.

If United are unwilling to match the valuation and it’s clear that Sporting will not sell for what United are willing to pay, it’s time to focus on another target or just stump up the cash. It’s rank amateur behaviour by us, and Ed002 has already said that our ‘business’ practices in the transfer market are making other clubs reluctant to deal with us.

Agree3 Disagree0

14 Jan 2020 16:39:27
I don't think anyone is saying that GDS. ed002 has explained that we are incredible amateurish when dealing with transfers.

Agree5 Disagree0

14 Jan 2020 17:10:24
Mmmm. Sky Sports new have no news, so what should they report. Yes, the fact that no deal has taken place and try and spin some drama. Or get bets on.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jan 2020 17:31:58
GDS2 - wow now that is a little bit to expensive for a player. Stop with the snide comments you know what I mean.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Jan 2020 19:25:04
The constant moaning is just very very boring, everyone so negative even though we are likely to buy a good player that we need. You literally have no idea what’s going on in negotiations yet everyone moaning about it.

If we want him as will get him.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Jan 2020 20:36:59
We paid £80mill for Maguire. I'll say that again. £80mill for Harry bang average centre back Maguire and now we are for the second time messing Sporting around over a player who is exactly what we need. If we sell Pogba the money will pay for Fernandes which will be a major upgrade.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jan 2020 20:49:31
I think ed002 gives everyone a very detailed breakdown of what we are doing. Most definitely much more reliable and consistent than any other 'source' out there. So it's fair to rely upon his info when he says we are extremely amateurish when it comes to player negotiations. Not a negative, just the reality of where this club is right now when it comes to signing and selling players.

Let's be honest, they haven't got a very good track record. Fans have a right to voice their opinions and frustrations because these kinds of things have been happening for years.

I tell you what else gets very very boring, calling it boring all the time :)

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jan 2020 22:14:56
I can't remember many people calling Maguire bang average in the summer.

I argued several times that I would be stunned if he ever seemed like good value. That he was good in a couple of areas but lacking in others. I said there were many better options available at half the price.

Yet every time I said he wasn't that great I was shouted down. Told he was England's best player in a run to the semi finals of a world cup. That he was the leader we were crying out for, that he would organise our defence and make us tighter than a ducks arse in defence.

So I'm a little surprised to see comments like bang average less than six months later.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Jan 2020 23:06:08
GDS that is not true, just because we want him does not equate to signing him. Have you been in hiding the last few transfer windows?
