Signing Sneijder would be the wrong signing imo. If you are going to spend 35-40 mill on a CM, then why not buy Javi Martinez? Martinez would be perfect for you Mancs, he's young, he is a class act, he can play CM, 2nd striker, play at the back, have a resale value and would be on lower wages. This is the player you should be after to replace ginger, not Sneijder. But Martinez would probably tell you to piss off too, just like Sanchez and Nasri did.

Blair Mayne YNWA

Ps. Ed, do you know of any clubs interested in Martinez? Thanks. {Ed007's Note - He is one of many "names" linked with all the usual big clubs Blair but Athletic Bilbao are not accepting ANY bids for him.}

fergie said we are not in for nasri and that he 'agreed to join' a different team.now he says united are not in for sneijder.however what fergie has not said is that our transfer business is over for this summer. we will bring in a midfielder but whether its nasri or sneijder remains doubtful.

Just been thinking, since when did Ferguson start responding to transfer speculation? We've had players linked more strongly before with no response.

Could it be mind games considering Inter said they would only sell if they recieved a "galactic" offer. Perhaps Fergie knows they want the money to spend, and so if he then says he has no interest they'll lower their asking price?

This is just a thought, I thought it was a little strange that Fergie commented that's all, beacuse Man United have a public policy of "not commenting on transfer speculation".

eds, are united having trouble attracting top players such as nasri and sneijder, or are we just not interested in them? Im only saying this because we've been linked so heavily with both, and neither look like they are coming now.

ags {Ed007's Note - We have been linked with countless players and held talks, either formal or informal with clubs/agents/players. There is over a month to go in the transfer window and Utd have spent £50 million so far. I don't see any reason to panic.}

I was at the match last night in Boston; lucky enough to be second row behind the goal in the United supporters section. Sir Alex walked up to the stands and came within a few feet from us. Very exciting We did our best to create a great atmosphere for the boys, and I can't remember the last time I had so much fun. Some quick thoughts:

-Ashley Young played with great confidence and was very impressive. I'm very excited to see him in PL action this season.

-Anderson looks heavy. Very heavy.

-I really hope Macheda gets a chance to prove himself this season. He was very impressive, both on the ball and off, and thoroughly deserved MotM.

-The build-up to Park's goal was amazing. Being so close to the action, I was very impressed to see just how easy it was for them to dominate and score each of the goals. The looks on their faces showed they were barely breaking a mental sweat.

If anyone was watching and saw a lanky guy in a new home kit with a Neville-esque mustache right behind the goal, that was me. So glad I got to see our boys play; can't wait for the season to start.

we have spent 50million so far but still haven't improved our team. 1st 11 that is. expecting both chelsea and city to be much stronger next season with new players and in chelsea's case a new manager also. don't get me wrong we've got 3 top players there just not an improvement (at the moment). think we need at least 2 more players that are of better quality than the players that would be in the starting 11 if the season was starting tommorow.

Fingers crossed that Fergie will offer £25 million for Nasri, i think he's the one who Utd want. If Fergie had wanted he who must not be named he would have gone for him.

Fergie is playing the waiting game, he knows exactly what he's doing.

He would finish off the squad. Also as Utd have a policy for signing over 27 year olds as they don't have a good re-sale value i.e Veron and Berbatov.

Glad to see Macheda looking sharp along with Owen

Does anyone know what happened or is happening with Adryan, the sixteen year old, Brazilian number ten who plays for Flamengo? There was an interest and an effort to bring him over on trial, a similar thing happened with Douglas Costa, the trial was refused, the fee proposed was too high and he was later sold to Shaktar at a snip.

If you look on msn news, Fergie is quoted saying "I keep reading about this, there's absolutely nothing at all to that [reports of United's interest in the player], " he told ESPN Soccernet Press Pass. "First of all I don't think Inter are prepared to sell him anyway.

"You get conjecture and you get speculation every week in newspapers unfortunately. And we have to answer these for some reason - why, I don't know, but we have to find a reason without adding insult to any particular club, or embarrassing any particular player. There's nothing we can do about it."

RAINFISH - let's get this straight. You have regularly questioned the attitude of players like Rooney and Ravel Morrison here but want to see Wilshere at Old Trafford - who has more of an attitude problem than Rooney and is hardly a stranger to the sort of trouble we associate with Ravel? And "Super Mario" whose attitude wouldn't be acceptable at playschool?

RAINFISH - Can i ask who YOU want to see at the club?

You get ciriticised for being negative a lot of the time, and I will admit that sometimes I agree and sometime I do not

On the matter of Sneijder - yes he is bloody expensive, but he is also bloody good I don't think SAF is goin to waste money on him, he will do his homework thoroughly before buying as he has been burnt before

So, who would you like to see signed (of the realistic targets)?

Luke Chadwicks Teeth................... A lot of people have forgotten that the perfect replacement for Paul Scholes is already playing in the Premiership for Arsenal Jack Wilshire. I would love to see him at United and I believe £30 mil would seriously test Arsenal. He has that nasty streak in him like the Ginger Prince and bags of ability. He is the only midfielder that i saw last season compete the the Barcelona midfield. I can't help it but i would love to see us buy Super Mario from City. i truly believe he is a United player and i believe he has the potential to be the best player in the world. it breaks my heart to see him playing in a blue shirt. I know Sir Alex is a big admirer. So if i had my choice they would be the two. As my old oppo Sydney will tell you there is a lad in the youth called Paul Pogba who if he develops like he is doing could be very very special and dominating in the centre of midfield. But that will be a couple of years as we don't want to rush him. Hope that helps Luke..........RAINFISHTROMBONE

This is pure sillyness Howard Nurse said last week that we were defintely interested and were on the verge of bidding - now nothing at all? I dont think much of Fergie's comments - he is very clever at hiding things and dealing with the press. I do think that its really very unfair on the fans all of this instability and unsure rumours - its gonna give me a heart attack There's no smoke without fire though - and many disagree with Nurse's comments - BBC seemingly, like Sky are just regurgitating rumours from the Internet. 35 mill for a world class CM player at the peak of his career? We could get 5 very good years out of him. Sneijder, like Scholes, has never been known for his pace.
Remember, we signed Teddy at 31 and got 3 very good years out of him."""
dear unnamed sir (is this a trend ngiak sees?)
ngiak totally agrees with mr rainfishtrombone
this is as rare as a "blue moon"
but ngiak has a litte query on your definiton of "peak of career"
first, yes he had a decent world cup with a group of very good players
but he had a rather average or barely noticeable ENTIRE season for inter
thats worth 35 million and over 200k per week and incurring the wrath and jealousy of the entire man united team?
what say you that he gradually gets worse from his last season's "form"?
or even maintains that form without getting better?
"peak" means he is in the form of his life.
"peak" also suggests that he would probably remain the same, and age wise, physiologically start deteriorating
35 million and 200 plus k per week, plus... you get the message.
its a very huge risk, and its not only the fees..
and your example is TEDDY SHERINGHAM??
are you sure? what were his sign on fees and his salary?
and he was well proven in the EPL as well
how do you compare the two??

Guys I only een the highlights from last night and Somme of the play was amazing. Although it was against NE revolution , the one touch passing was superb and the goals were unbelievable. Parks was the best

people on this site are doing my head in with all the talk of sneijder being too old at 27, the guy is a class act and will continue to be so for at least another 5 years, probably longer than that.
Im sure that if iniesta (27years old) became available united fans would expect us to go all out to sign him

Did anyone see SAF's comments after the match, saying it's a tough job picking two forwards from six: Rooney, Chico, Berba, Owen, Kiko, Diouf. No mention of Welbeck? Is it becuase Welbeck is not on tour, or he's planning for life without him?

David Gill was not in Milian, He was In Zurich for a metting with all clubs. Nothing to do with any transfers. Having said that the bookies have cut the odds to 1/4 that Snijnder will sign

Good game last night, sluggish start but that's to be expected in 1st game for nearly 2 months. Players looked sharp, and a good result at the end of the day. Things look good up to now, so with the extra signings we'll hopefully make, I can see us making it 20 next year.

Sneijder deal will to go through. United would not want to pay his wage demands. Sorry guys, we need to find another playmaker

If we do sign sneijder does anyone think there will be any other signings. I would like to see a young dm to come in place of hargreaves

Hey, did u guys watch the game last night? Personally, I just managed the highlights...but I do think Carrick had a good game. Assists for the first two goals came from him, Macheda is one for the future. Some people saying Anderson had a great game as well....if we do get Sneijder or Hamsik or whoever comes in, we will have a fantastic team thats for sure {Ed002's Note - It is pre-season. Read nothing in to it and just hope no one gets injured.}

Did Anderson just hit the target or was that a mis-placed pass? ;)

Ok I'm like all of you's and I am lookin forward to signings sumone big but with all these signings, will they not hinder the growth and development of young lads such as pogba, Morrison and the rest? Ed?? {Ed001's Note - there should be a place for new signings and kids coming through, especially if the kids are good enough. But it needs a brave manager - which United have.}

Jus wondering EDs have you ever considered making an app. I know their is a mobile version but it would be nice if it was a facebook type set up were u make a comment and ppl will get an option of either like or comment. Maybe even disagree. I like the idea of making a comment and without having to check the site for a reply, i can get a push notifiation that comes up on my ipod so u know if u get a reply.

Doni {Ed001's Note - we have considered it and it is on the to do list for the future.}

here's an idea if anyone is interested.

following on from our transfer prediction game, would anyone be up for something similar over the course of the season?

like how at the start of the season the journo's will all make their predictions for who wins the league, cups, europe etc etc we could do something similar. as biased or as realistic as you like?

maybe the ed's could store them up and then end of the season see who got the most right?

i'd say try and predict:

*premier league champs.

*2nd/ 3rd/ 4th.

*relegated from prem.

* fa cup winners (or fa cup final)

* league cup winners (or final)

*champions league winners (or final)

* europe league winners (or final)

*say who the best and worst buys will be.

*surpise team of the season maybe?

maybe even expand it into championship winners or spl winners or whatever?

Anyway who would be interested and what suggestions do you have?

Bit of fun for the season.

Editors what do you think?

rincewind. {Ed001's Note - that worked well last time, I will have to set up a specific page for it for you all to use, makes it easier to keep track then.}
