I think we all agree that paying the agreed price to keep falcao would b bad business. but if we could negotiate a lower fee what would u guys b prepared to see us pay for him?

14 May 2015 23:34:24
10 mill tops.
He has flopped in the PL.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 May 2015 23:42:49
I'd pay £35-£40m if I was any other club. Unfortunately we lack the players to create chances for Falcao and need a striker who can create his own chances with pace and trickery. It's a shame as I think Falcao will come good next season and won't be far off being 'the best out and out striker in the world' again. It won't be with us though.

15 May 2015 00:17:51
Would rather sign someone like Ings on a free.

Agree5 Disagree5

15 May 2015 00:32:14
I agree JMB.
falcao is overhyped, overpriced and overpayed.

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed004's Note - Would people agree to another loan. Especially if RVP left? Maybe it's just me clinging to false hope that after a preseason and rest he could return to his former glory days}

15 May 2015 00:49:01
I personally don't think he has that x factor anymore.
He was a bit part player this season and IF we did loan him again it would be a huge part of wages going to a player I can't see getting a lot of games. It would be wiser to invest the money into other areas IMO.
Ings on a free makes perfect sense to me.

Agree3 Disagree1

15 May 2015 01:11:54
I think Falcao has been unlucky to come to a team in transition and therefore been deprived of the incisive passing he thrives on. I have watched him a lot this season and it is obvious he struggled as many players do to come to terms with EPL style of football. He also was not properly recovered from his injuries. But his anticipation and awareness are there in abundance and given decent service and a long run in the team so he feels settled I am convinced he will score shed loads. Remember. Form is temporary Class is permanent

Agree3 Disagree0

15 May 2015 02:06:37
Agree with Herbs 004. Waste of resources and the lads talent will be wasted here. He should do what all South Americans do coming into their twilight years and sign a bumper contract in the Serie A.

Agree1 Disagree1

15 May 2015 06:02:28
I for one agree entirely with Ed 4. He is unfortunate to have come in now facing all the odds- injury, new league, new manager, a disorganised set of prayers and a fan base that is dying to see the team progress by 'hook or by crook'. All this odd piled in one man plus high fees paid and preasure to deliver. For me, if he can be signed on the cheap I will very much be happy as I still see him rising again when the odds are minimal. Ings for me is not convincing to me. One of those Overrated english players

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you on the ings shout yoko, him and austin are vastly overrated imo and their clubs are looking for big money, so i would swerve them myself..

15 May 2015 06:30:48
Yoko - Falcao is on £265,000 a week. His wage isn't going to drop if we sign him up. He has done next to nothing, no club or business for that matter can afford to be haemorrhaging that type of money.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i agree jmb..

15 May 2015 08:02:04
Last weekend he was taking up some good positions in the box and making all the right runs but had absolutely no service, you can't pin all the blame on him although he does look like he's lost half a yard from a couple of years ago. Then again rvp has lost a couple of yards.

Agree2 Disagree0

15 May 2015 08:45:21
He looks like he is carrying extra timber, and most importantly doesn't look happy at all. Unfortunately I think we should just move on from Falcao.

No striker relying on chances being created for them would do well with the current system. That is why it amazes me that I read a lot of people wanting Hernandez back. We need a Kane type player desperately for the way we play, maybe Lewandowski.

Agree0 Disagree1

15 May 2015 09:35:52
Ings: Successful in the EPL thus far and can be got for free
Falcao: Failure in the EPL thus far and costs an arm and a leg!
Draw your own conclusions!

I wouldn't sign Falcao on a permanent basis but nor would I sign Ings. Ings is a good player but certainly not better than what we have. Personally I'd rather keep RvP for another year than sign either Falcao or Ings.

But in all honesty I think we need a new striker who could be world class, Falcao has been poor, I read somewhere that he has only had something like 3 shots on target in his last 11 appearances, although I don't know how accurate that statement is.
RvP could rediscover a little form after a break over the summer but he would be a short term solution.
Rooney has been okay up front as a lone striker but he drops deep too often and isn't a long term solution either.
Wilson is a top prospect but isn't ready for the first team on a weekly basis yet.

We need a top class striker in his mid twenties to see us challenge on all fronts next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 May 2015 12:06:25
I really enjoyed the Harry Kane to Utd rumours I read in the paper this morning. He'd be ideal and I think Benteke would be a good signing as well.

I'd move on Falcao and RVP.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I think he is probably the ideal type of striker to lead the line for LvG. He's tall (replaces the need for Fellaini), dangerous at set pieces, quick and a good finisher. However, for the reported fee (45 million) I don't think he offers enough. Not sure he is technically good enough and if he is a world class finisher or not. Also worried he may be a one season wonder}

15 May 2015 09:48:33
Ed025,

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Ings out of contract in the summer, so the club could be looking for big money, but they won't get it? Does that make it a slightly different proposition?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its not just about the transfer GDS, its about his agent wanting big wages for him plus the add ons mate..

14 May 2015 15:46:20
Ed is there any truth that we are likely to keep Nani next season because nobody can afford his wages?

What do you guys think? If Young can improve then Nani perhaps can too. He definitely has the talent.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed004's Note - Not sure. Hoping we can find a buyer for him}

14 May 2015 23:43:34
It makes me chuckle to think that he was once being linked quite heavily with Real Madrid. Hopefully we can find a buyer.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 May 2015 23:30:22
nani will never improve, he's been garbage for years, if no body wants to buy him ild release him. that talent has been wasted.

every year we think oh nani will be great this year, he's 29 this season, he's getting into the last stage of his career so there is no room for massive improvement in him, he isn't going to get any better.

at least with young he only had 1 bad season, he was always decent at villa and he's been good for us.

but nani, we should cut our losses and get rid. spend his wages on someone else.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 May 2015 00:19:02
I don't think he would do half bad in the Spanish League redseven.

Ed004, Ed018 pointed me towards you and told me to ask you this question. I love working out in the gym etc, some might call me a gym rat haha :)
Well, Ed018 said you're quite a fan of working out as well and said that you'd probably have some interesting tips and hints about training and stuff. Care to share them with me (and other interested readers)? :)
Hope you don't mind me bothering you with this :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - I think somebody is pulling you're leg mate. I enjoy going to the gym but never stick at it long enough to make any sort of progress. Your best bet is the talk health page. Ed001 surprisingly knows quite a bit about supplements. I would usually buy stuff off his recommendations.}

14 May 2015 22:11:29
Hahaha apparently Ed018 got me then :-P
No matter, man. Hope some day you find the motivation to keep going. I've been working out for a couple of years now and can honestly say that consistency is the key.
Sorry to have bothered you, mate.

Fresh from my most disagreed with comment, I'd like to add this to my assessment of Bale last night.

Firstly, I agree with the criticism that he didn't attack Evra at all, which was surprising because we all know that Patrice can struggle against very fast wingers. On the other hand, he got into position to score twice from headers, and had a good shot from 30+yds parried away by Buffon. So, while he didn't try to go past players like the Bale we knew at Tottenham - major disappointment - he was in the thick of most attacks, and could/should have scored.

One wonders whether he has been LVGed!!! And there's the rub. If we were to purchase Bale and then take away his greatest assets in pursuit of a slow possession type of game, then that would surely be a waste of money.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

14 May 2015 22:05:41
In Bales defence, your are right though he was poor at points BUT he's been putting up with sh-t for weeks! God, he's even had his car smashed up and abuse where ever he goes! So last night was a build of everything! Even after the game, is his car, yet more abuse! Your telling me you wouldn't be pi33ed! because I would! Don't get me wrong, I love De Gea, says he's happy yet still wants to go back to Madrid! Bit of a contradiction there, don't you think? He's happy at Manchester only prob his missus doesn't! We offered £200k a week! Yeah, £200k a week, yet still no loyalty! Let him go! Let's see how long before Madrid fans turn when we've as Utd fans have stood by him!

Agree3 Disagree0

14 May 2015 23:36:05
i agree ronnie, if we can get bale in some kind of deal with dea gea going to madrid i would gladly sell dea gea, because let's face it he isn't going to sign a new deal.

keepers can be replaced(yes dea gea is a worldie of a keeper and he's been 1 of our best players for the past 3 seasons), but there's plenty of good keepers we can have as a replacement.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 May 2015 00:22:17
Shawthing - what do you see the future of Depay to be like under LVG? Surely LVG will tell Depay to run with the ball and get at the defenders the way he did for PSV.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 May 2015 00:39:33
Have to disagree, spb. Work class goalkeepers are integral to any team with hopes of winning silverware. No coincidence we struggled between Schmeichel leaving, and VDS joining.

Truly world class goalies don't grow on trees, either.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 May 2015 01:35:27
'World class'. Obviously.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 May 2015 13:02:35
Could it possibly be the fact that Bale knows the RM fans hate him so doesn't want to do anything to annoy them. For example, yes, he could have bullied Evra all game with his pace and power but didn't want in case he messed it up, opening himself up for a load more abuse. Speaking as a Young(ish) footballer (ST) myself, i know that if i feel i will get loads of abuse for attempting to skin someone, instead of just passing it simple, then i won't do it. No being big headed but i do have some pace and skill to my game and i feel that i can take it round a fair few people, but like bale, i have a very moany team who won't appreciate the trying they only appreciate if it comes off.

Just a guess, and a little insight into my life ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

14 May 2015 20:52:41
Give the money mentioned by Woodward today can't see us going for Bale, l think our money will be spent on more needed players.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

14 May 2015 23:39:47
why what money was mentioned? all I've read is that he said we would be active in the market.

its clear dea gea is going to be sold to madrid, and its clear bale doesn't want to be at madrid, so i can't see united passing on the opportunity to do some sort of deal where we get bale.(not a swap but maybe if we sell them dea gea we can get bale)

Agree0 Disagree0

15 May 2015 00:23:10
We will make a pitch for Bale, of that I'm postive. Whether we get him or not time will tell.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I am really hoping we get Bale and a defensive minded replaced for Carrick. I just think a front four of Bale, Di Maria, Depay and Rooney could be something special.}

15 May 2015 00:29:40
Spb said the same thing about bale and de gea the other day to be told players are not cattle and it will never happen

Agree0 Disagree0

14 May 2015 20:35:22
Well, I guess gareth bale is going to be this summer's protracted transfer rumour for manchester united. He will be "spotted" on a plane to manchester every now and then.
I think united need three more signings this summer:
1.Right back: Coleman
2.Center back: Hummels/ Otemendi
3.Defensive mid: Schniederlin/ one of the Bender brothers.

These three signings will make us competitive in the league. Right sided winger would be a bonus but if not we can go for that next summer. I don think we need a striker because Rooney, RVP and Wilson are plenty especially if we are going to play with one striker. Their poor form this season is largely due to very little opportunities created.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 May 2015 20:55:26
Depay right sided winger perhaps????

Right back - clyne
Centre back - hummels
Def mid - vidal
Centre mid - gundogan

Stand us in good stead for next season

Agree1 Disagree0

14 May 2015 21:34:41
Arda Turan might be a good shout for our wide right position.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 May 2015 22:19:20
Alexandre Lacazette is a must for me! Benteke, second choice!

Agree0 Disagree1

14 May 2015 23:24:28
if we get CB RB and CM i'd b happy hummels, clyne and carvalho would do me if I can b greedy i'd take isco and benteke as well but wudn't mind waiting till nxt summer 4 them. there is such a thing as too many new signings. ask Tottenham/ Liverpool.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 May 2015 23:49:34
As was the case last summer; Vidal and Hummels would pretty much fill the gap. A striker with a bit of pace would do a job for us (Dyabla/Lacazette) although I can't see us going for either. If Di Maria and De Gea leave we'll need another winger and keeper too.

If we were to sign Lloris, Bale, Dyabla, Hummels and Vidal I could see us pushing for both the league and Champions league in spite of LVG's negative play.

As it is I can see us ending up with Krul, Benzema, Hummels and a middle of the road midfielder and battling it out for the runners up position with Arsenal and City.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 May 2015 18:37:17
Hi guys, eds,
How many players do you think we still need to sign to have a quality enough squad to be competing on all fronts like Ed Woodward said today? Also do you all think signings will be all this summer or over into January aswell? Personally if de Gea leaves and even with depay signed I still think 7-8 players are required;
GK, RB, CBx2, DM, CM, RW, CF

Believable0 Unbelievable2

14 May 2015 18:48:35
Trying to integrate 7-8 players is only going to make our job difficult.

Lets leave the GK out of the debate at the moment.

I feel we need RB, CB, CM and CF + Depay (all these need to be starting 11 quality and we have decent squad players in our ranks to make up the numbers)

Agree0 Disagree0

14 May 2015 23:51:58
Right now the only three players I'm truly happy with are DDG, Shaw and Herrera. Between Rooney and Mata we have cam sorted and Depay should come good on the wing. Hopefully Di Maria will find some form but even then I still think we need another winger. I think DDG will leave.

GK,RB,CB,CB,CM,W,ST

Afternoon eds!

Just wondering if the supposed interest in begovic is true? If De Gea does leave in the summer(really hope he doesn't), would we have valdes as no.1 and sign a youngster to develop e.g. Mattia Perrin, Scuffet, Nardi, Areola players of that ilk?
Or would we sign an established 'keeper like handanovic, lloris, begovic etc?
Personally, i'd love Jan oblak from athletico or cech but can't see either of them happening.

Cheers as always!

With Ancelotti almost guaranteed to be sacked, now would be the perfect time to get the Bale deal done. Ancelotti has defended Bale on countless occasions, but with him out the picture, Florentino Perez can do what he likes. It's no secret that Real Madrid fans are fickle and dislike Bale, and this will force Perez's hand.

As much as I love big Spanish Dave i would use him as bait to entice Perez into a deal. Around about the £40m + Dave mark. The Real fans are also hitting out at Casillas and Perez will almost certainly be buying a new keeper. Dave is one of the best in the world at present and he is Spanish, which will be why the RM fans will be calling for him.

Valdes is a highly qualified replacement which means we wouldn't need to spend money on a keeper, but even if we did have to, buying a world class keeper is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a world class winger.

Perez runs RM as more of an theme park than a football club. He wants the newest, best and most exciting rides (players) regardless of whether they will fit into his system. De Gea is young and one of the best in the world right now.

Rumours circling that Bale's family have moved back to England and that he is basically a 'done deal'.

With a strike for of Depay-Rooney-Bale and and back-up strike force of Januzaj-RvP-Di Maria we will be laughing (hopefully!!)

Believable1 Unbelievable4

14 May 2015 14:07:30
The way they've treated bale, there's no way they'll get what they paid for him. De gea, on the other hand, has probably been the best gk in the world this year so why would we be stupid and offer him and 40mil?

I wouldn't go over 50 for bale, and i'd rather keep ddg than get bale. there's many good wingers but great gks are rare.

Agree14 Disagree0

14 May 2015 12:02:35

Not to mention they already have Carvajal and Arbeloa on thier payroll.

14 May 2015 10:46:39
How can any player money aside aspire to play for a fickle fan base such as Real Madrid? We have been derided as a spent force in a league which in popular opinion is far more competitive than La Liga (outside of the top 4). Real Madrid have now ended the season without a trophy and with a team which surpasses us in nearly every position. David De Gea has been worshipped in Manchester through thick and thin and to go to a club where if you have a bad fifteen minutes you are the reason behind every failure.
I hope De Gea stays as he's been a major driving force behind where we are now and in all honesty I think the fans preservance and adulation is one of the main reasons behind his success.

Very good point EireDevil.Real Madrid are not winning CL that frequently either, with their firepower and squad they should have won it more frequently. The same argument applies to United also for a certain extent. If SAF had some of the Madrid players, United should be atleast level with pool in CL trophies.
United are a match for Madrid in every aspect as far as greatness is concerned.
In this modern game those dream days are over for Real Madrid.

Anyone who signs for Madrid deserves what they get, be it a player or manager. Even the most docile of football watcher knows that Madrid is for the ego and nothing more, (well money and ego go hand in hand).

City are not quite at that level yet because the fans still have a tiny grasp on reality, but Madrid fans would kill their own mother if she had a bad game! The board are the same.

I'm watching "Lost" at the minute, burning through the episodes, I imagine being a Madrid players is like being on that Island. Not knowing who to trust, what is going on and any good deeds just ignored the second somebody else can benefit or you make one tiny mistake. No trust, no dignity just pure selfishness, Madrid is the Island - Evil and Crazy.

I think the Juve result last night could make the Summer transfer window very interesting. With all the clubs chasing Pogba, he may decide he doesn't want to leave the CL finalists (possible winners)which could result in a potential suitor splashing the cash put aside for him on other candidates.

Ancelotti will most definitely get the chop at Madrid now and will probably be followed out the door by a few players. With Ancelotti gone and Perez looking to gain support for his presidential campaign in 2016, Gareth Bale is running out of friends at the Bernabeu. Yes he has stated he wants to stay at Madrid but it won't be his choice at the end of the day, just ask Angel Di Maria, Mesut Ozil and Claude Makelele. If Madrid want him out he will be on his way out.

Madrid will also be looking for a new manager who will want to bring in his own players as well as the usual superstars to keep the fans onside after a disappointing season. Clubs throughout Europe have already sounded out their potential recruits and like United with Depay may be forced into signing them earlier than expected with other clubs hot on their heels.

With Sterling possibly leaving Liverpool it will be interesting to see how many more sub-standard players a club can buy with a £50million cheque. Arsenal will look to try get in a few special players to reinforce their assault on the PL next season. City's summer will be interesting with Yaya's future up in the air, possible managerial change and their FFP restrictions. Chelsea will no doubt sign a worldie or two to add to their impressive squad.

I hope we get it right. This is a massive summer for everyone in my opinion.

14 May 2015 10:48:51
Great post JMB, I think you hit the nail on the head on all points. I feel it will Pogba's agent dictating where he will go this summer though.

It looks to me as if Bale might be sold but only for the correct price. There will be a lot of goings on in Madrid due to this season being a failure for them. I'm even more sure now that they will be pushing hard for Big Dave.

Chelsea will most definitely add to their impressive squad to solidify their position within England and of course to be stronger in Europe.

I feel this summer for us is all about buying quality. CB, CM are definites, RB and a striker position I think will be filled too.

It's all poised to be an interesting summer transfer window. I am very excited about next season.

Was scrolling through the various pages to see if I could pick up anything from ed 002 regards out potential transfers. So far I've seen the ed say we are interested in Mirrovic of Anderlect, any of you guys on here seen him play? If so what do you think of him? From reports I've read he seems to have a lot of potential, but I've never seen him play!!

Mitrovic is a beast of a player, big, tall, strong CF with plenty of ability and only 20 so will hopefully only improve with age! Not bad for £15m quoted I think?

I have to say this page is much better than some out there. We all agree and disagree with each other on here but at least we genuinely discuss topics and offer our own views and opinions. Yes it can get a little heated at times, maybe a little negative or argumentative but at least we can all openly critique each other.

The Arsenal and Everton page's are also pretty good and there seems to be a decent bunch who chat amongst themselves but the Liverpool page is literally an Ed001/2 Q&A forum. I suppose what I am trying to say is even though we all don't have the same opinion on here sometimes (most of the time) at least we can think for ourselves and pass on our views to others. So if it gets bleak again next season just remember there is far worse pages out there than this one!

It was the same with Depay. They were wetting themselves over signing him but now he's unproven and overrated.

Is lallana still the "new zico" on their page? I'm guessing Ings is now morphing into the "new romario" (echo).

Ed0025 I think they should let you do it for a day. It would certainly give a few of them something to think about mate.

AJH - at the moment they can't even bring themselves to say Sterling is a good player. As soon as he signs a new contract he will be the new Messi.

{Ed025's Note - one day would do me jmb, i might get thrown off the site but at least i would go with my wishes granted.. :)
