Anyone else think fabio had a good game today? Was solid defensively and a good attacking threat!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think we all rate Rafael higher, would like to see how Fabio does at LB against a strong side.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fabio is a good player, he was rated better than his brother as a youth player. Hopefully he can prove his worth this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Certainly better than jones at rb who for all his effort has not the technical ability to play as a full back. Not slagging jones he will be a top cb but he's not a rb and certainly not a dm.

The future of Manchester United is Adnan Januzaj been telling all my mates how good he is, and today even a Liverpool fan was amazed, hard to believe I know. Shares the same birthday as Ronaldo and the same league debut as George best! This boy will be special!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We better hurry up and sign him up, I don't know why we wait till he is in his last year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha got to love that optimistic logic!

Hey guys i'm back from my hols and all settled in up in sunny Newcastle. lol.

So let's look at todays game. I'll start with the negative so I can finish on a high.

I'm very concerned that we haven't scored a goal in open play since the Swansea game. Yes we have looked studier at the back and more compact in the middle but we do seem abit devoid of ideas in the final third. I'll accept it against a title rival like Chelsea who came to Old Trafford and parked the bus by not even playing a striker, and to a point against Liverpool who are in good form and always up their game against us.

But to be unable to fashion a goal from open play at home against a newly promoted team is a worry.

But then our manager is a former defender, his assistant is a former defender, and his coaches are a former defender and midfielder. So from a coaching side there does seem to be a lack someone who is forward thinking and played in a forward thinking manner during their own playing career.

Maybe if we keep on struggling to create goals from open play then maybe this will be something we will need to look at addressing. Hopefully Scholes may soon want to come back as a coach to bring an attack minded brain to the table.

Now on to the positives.

The first one I want to say is that I was happy to see Ryan Giggs not on the field today. Now that may sound abit disrespectful to one of our greatest players, but clearly his best playing days are behind him and all he does now is make up the numbers, plus is exculsion makes space for younger players to get game time.

Speaking of which enter stage right Adnan Januzaj, he was a breath of fresh air and aslong as we can tie him down to a new long(extremely long) contract then a future United great. He has that ability to make playing football look so easy, his touch, his vision, the way he gulides past players with ease. Surely he is a player we need to look to build the future of our club around.

Marouane Fellaini looked solid when he came on too, it was a solid debut which hopefully he can build on with a starting spot against Leverkusen. He was a great shield for our defence and exactly the sort of player we needed. Yes we may have over paid for him and yes some of us had other players we would have prefered who could do the same job. But Fellaini is the player we have and I think he will do us proud.

Rooney played well and looks like he is going to try and prove all us doubters wrong. I'll get my spoon ready for the humble pie. I suspect it'll be a big slice. lol.

The last bit of good news is about a player who didn't even get on the pitch. Nani signing a new contract is excellent news, along with the signing of Zaha and the emergance of Januzaj it might mean that this is the last season that we have to watch Youngs shameful diving. that's our last two managers who have both said they will have a word with him about it. And if he didn't listen to Sir Alex than I doubt he'll listen to Moyes. I just don't wanna see that from one of our players, it brings shame to the shirt and all our club stands for.

So overall happy with the result and on the most part the performance, but we need to find a more cutting edge if we are to aspire to win titles this season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I said we could sacrifice our goals to be more solid defensively, it's about finding the balance. If we can find the balance then we will be very hard to beat.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy, I can think of a few chances off the top of my head. Evra could have driven to the byline or shot, but he went to ground. Rooney's through ball to RVP volleyed against the bar. RVP's back heel that went wide of the near post. Rooney's miss control and fumble in the box. Januzaj cutting inside and firing very wide. We created enough chances to win 4 or 5 nil. Just didn't finish 'em.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we will be much tougher to beat this season Syd. But like you said there needs to be a balance.

Titles are won with goals, and although the ability to not get beat is an admirable one you need to make sure you can score the goals that turn a draw into a win.

But its early in the season yet and there is a long way to go.

You'd like to think with players such as Rooney, Rvp, Kagawa, Hernandez, Nani, Valencia, Zaha, Welbeck, Young and Januzaj at our disposal that we should be able to fashion a few goal scoring chances in a game. Maybe with all the injuries, international commitments and the broken pre season it will take alittle longer for the team to click and get into their stride.

Last season we scored 11 goals more than anyone else in the league, but we conceeded as many goals as Stoke did and they finished 13th. if we can score as many as we did last season while also shoring up our defence and conceeding half as many as we conceeded last season than regardless of what has happened over the summer we will be the team to beat.

Agree0 Disagree0

Welcome backs Shapps!

Scoring the goals in open play isn't something I'm overly bothered right now.

I think over the years we haven't had a big presents from set pieces whether its Corners, Free-kicks being whipped in, etc.

I think Moyes has seen this and has decided to focus more on it, I mean if you put 1 in every 5 set pieces in the back of the net and you're getting 10 corners and a 4/5 free kicks a game then you're going to put them away.

One thing I did notice today which Owen put perfectly was that every time we had a chance we looked scared to have a go.

There was a moment when RVP moved into his right foot and instead of pulling the trigger and testing the keeper he pulls it out to Anderson who tries to do some kind of spin and falls over the ball instead like a complete wally.

so, that might be a little worrying but when you've got established talent like RVP and Rooney, youngsters like Zaha and Januzaj and a (now) solid Midfield pairing its only going to be a matter of time until we start banging them in again.

As for right now though, I think we're looking for something to be wrong, I couldn't care whether we win 5-0 all from 50 yard belters or whether RVP sticks in 5 pens.

They all count as 1!

One final point, did you notice how much freedom Carrick got once Fellaini come on? he was running all over the place, I saw him on the wing about 3 times.

Looked like the raw Carrick we bought from spurs!

really impressed with everyone today bar Young!

One final point on the Dive, Evra done a very similar thing but no-one is mentioning it. both of the lads should be ashamed of themselves.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy,

I agree with all the positives that you pointed out. However, i'm afraid the only reason Giggs wasn't on the bench is simply because DM put his name down first on Tuesday's lineup. Unfortunately, I think this will also be the case for the likes of TC23 and Welbeck.

I'm bracing myself for a very frustrating and negative performance.

#playkagawa

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm already half way through ny first plate of humble pie, try it, it's delicious. I just xouldnt help myself after being reminded of just how much he works for the team.

Also, I'm pretty happy with tombomb using my hashtag

#playkagawa

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy, hope you're settling in Newcastle is a great city from the little experience I've had. Bit cold though, lol.

Agree with your thoughts - IMO we look solid defensively and always have the ability to finish chances. The only thing we lack right now is that 'cutting edge' which funnily enough Januzaj looks capable of providing if he was just a bit older! Jokes aside, let's hope he, Kagawa and Zaha get their chances this season as they're all capable of putting defenders on the back foot, which is what we lack at times.

Having said that, as firebear says above - we did create chances yesterday and really we should have scored 1 or 2 in open play.

Let's hope things click into place with time in the attacking 3rd because tactically and defensively we look to have a real solid base right now.

Having watched Everton, Ross Barkley is the future of our midfield I think. I think that he ought to be our prime target for midfield, he wouldn't have to be registered yet due to his age. We have to go in for him, regardless of the fee.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree fresh, not sure about the fee bit but Moyes will clearly know all about him.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was beating the Barkley drum a couple of years ago. You could see he was going to turn into a special player eventually. Although I remember watching Pogba own him over 90 minutes in a reserve game. Very good player, but we lost the best player last summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Barkley looks a top talent, he has looked good since he broken into the Everton first team a few years back, one query in regard to Barkley and moyes; would I be right in thinking regardless of the serious injury barkley suffered moyes seems reluctant to play him?

Agree0 Disagree0

Why let Everton rip us off again for Barkley when we have someone in our own ranks who could be as good as Barkley.

Lets see how young Nick Powell does at Wigan, he has just as much talent as Barkley. He just needs to grow into his talent.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2013 20:16:11
Wow, Chelsea drop 3 points and City drop another one. I wouldn't be too concerned that Liverpool have a two point lead, that's pretty insignificant considering where they will end up (5th or worse). Spurs aren't yet title contenders for me, they lack a really special player and Arsenal lack a team of special players - they have one now in Ozil but they need more to help the supporting cast of Podolski etc. I would say we are good value right now for the League, we have the biggest squad with plenty of options - still need to get rid of the odd player though and replace them with some quality.

To get a squad that is truly ready to dominate I think one or two have to go with a few coming in. Buttner I think is poor as is Young, Lindegaard is disposable, Giggs will retire at the end of the year, Ferdinand doesn't have too many years left. Carrick is coming up to 33. So there is work to be done. Coentrao and Herrera in January would begin to solve some of our problems, but a general restructuring of our left sided options is priority number one for me.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Fresh

If we only bid 23M this summer, I can't see us going back with the buy out clause. I agree we need some rebuilding though, I just hope we are a bit more structured than we were this summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spurs will need a season to gel, I also think they lack a world class striker. Same goes for Chelsea. They need a top striker too. City will need to gel and get used to the new manager. Arsenal will struggle in the bigger games against the bigger sides. I have no doubt in my mind we will win the league this season, although I wouldn't bemoan 2nd or 3rd in Moyes' first season.

Agree0 Disagree0

As good as Herrera is he isn't worth what Bilbao will make us pay for him.

If we want him then we will have to pay the full buy out clause, and to be honest there are players just as good available for less. Such as Jordy Clasie, who would be available for less than a third of what Herrera would cost.

Personally I think the Herrera boat has sailed, and we will move on from him. We do need a midfielder who can be Carricks long term replacement though as we do currently ask too much of him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy,

I agree Herrera is a no starter. Bilbao will never sell for less than the buyout clause and we are not going back for him.

January window will be a non event and most quality players will not switch clubs 5 months before the world cup and most clubs will not sell any of their decent players if they in the running for some sort of honors in their domestic or european competition.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think this winter could be more interesting that usual precisely because there is a World Cup coming up. Players will want to be in the news linked with big deals and assured of starting places, so it will be much busier than normal. The amount of money at stake will also means clubs will not shirking on investment to either push for the Champ League spots or stay in the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2013 20:10:23
I know anything can happen over a season but if we can take one thing from the first four games is that it's a really tough league this year. Everton were fantastic and Barkley looks a class act.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Sep 2013 19:42:41
A really good day for a United fan I think.A very good debut for the wig, Adnan was superb, both our strikers on the scoresheet and our rivals dropping points.
On a different note the Chelsea Everton game was one of the best I have seen in ages I reckon its going to be a topsy turvy season :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Do we really need to call him the wig?

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2013 19:26:41
Chelsea and City both dropped points.

Lets hope Moyes puts out a good line u next week against City.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think we will see a strike force of Welbeck, RvP, Rooney & Nani at City with Carrick and Fellaini holding. Hopefully Jones will be at RB to add steel to defence. If we can get a win then we will be in good shape going into the next few months.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2013 19:25:01
Yes Shahram, I am terrified of City and Chelsea this season :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You are some piece of work LOL, I never rated chelsea chances this year anyway and have been quite clear on that.

You actually said if we finish ahead of Chelsea we win the league. I still rate the City team and hope you are right even in your kindergarden way.

Remember go do a search, I like the spurs and city squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know it sounds crazy but Chelsea will have their hands full with making top 4. Nothing like putting yourself out there :)

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Chelsea will do very well as will city. Trying to judge a team after one game is quite childish

Agree0 Disagree0

Shahram, what the hell is a kindergarden? Will you still be amazed if we challenge for the title this season?

Jred, I don't know if you have realised (probably not), but we are 'FOUR' games into the season, not one. And from what I have seen from City and Chelsea, they are at this stage no better than they were all of last season. So it seems you will have your excuses sorted if MU win the league again this season. You can 'AGAIN' say we only won the league due to rival teams being poor. Or let's see if you give MU the credit they deserve this time round, I doubt you will though.

Of course City and Chelsea will do very well, stating the obvious. Shahram doesn't believe MU will be challenging for the title this season. That was the point of my OP.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
What the hell are you talking about .
4 games in and all 3 teams look like they have issues which is to expected as they all have new managers
When it comes to football pal I take your views with a pinch of salt as they are that biased.
City and Chelsea will both be a better team than they where last year any body who knows about football can see that
So like I always say let's wait until the end of the season and see who's right

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney

Stop putting words in peoples mouth.

You say we will the league I say we will not so let's get that out of the way and 4 games in has not changed my view.

You keep bringing up Chelsea for some reason as you love Mourinho and I don't look at the Chelsea team as contender for the title and have said that as openly as possible.

Since you seem to have a lot of respect for Mourinho as a coach read what he said about the various rival squads in his interview a few days ago, seems to agree with my assessment of the spurs squad if it worth anything.

For the last time City and Spurs will give everyone a run for their money and Arsenal might prove to be the surprise package but will need to see more than 4 games from them.

BTW Spurs are playing the best football IMO and even though they lost to Arsenal they bombarded them for long periods of the game and the score was quite deceiving. They have a lot of new quality guys and a very deep squad, give them a few months and you might see them put an incredible run together after christmas.

Whilst you keep saying it is a squad game and we have a fantastic squad, I don't agree. What happens if RVP, Carrick, Rooney, get a semi serious Injury and miss 4 to 6 weeks. Do you have any replacements that are even remotely close to them in the squad and keep us ticking along?

Finally, let's drop this as time will tell and one of us will owe the other one an apology :)

Agree0 Disagree0

I was chatting to Shahram, when you butted in calling me childish. Inaccurately saying I was judging Chelsea and City on one game, when City are four games into the season and Chelsea are five games into the season.

We will see who's right at the end of the season, but when you are proved wrong again and MU do win the league again, then I will expect the same old nonsense like: "our rivals were poor, that's the only reason we won the league."

Agree0 Disagree0

No Shahram, let's not forget what you said. Even though you are desperate for me to forget it as it was a foolish statement. You said you would be amazed/surprised if MU challenge for the title. I can find the quote if you like? If you seriously believe we will not be challenging for the title this year then you have lost the plot.

I do not like Jose at all. I think the man is a clown and I have said that enough times on here. But if you think Spurs will finish higher than us or Chelsea then again you have lost the plot. What happens if RvP, Rooney & Carrick get injured, LOL. What happens if Aguero, Yaya & Kompany get injured? What if my aunt had balls she would be my uncle.

MU will be challenging for the title Shahram.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
Best team always wins the league
really don't know what your point is United are a v good team but not a great team imo if that's what your getting at

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred, but you said City and Chelsea have a better team, but we had the "fergy factor".

Make your mind up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
Yer on paper I think they did I honestly think if fergy had been in charge of city or Chelsea last year they would of won the league.
But syd I still don't know what your point is

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred, my point was never with you, it was with Shahram.

But on another note, if Moyes wins the league this season, is he as good as SAF? Would Moyes have won the league with the Chelsea or City teams?

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
It's difficult to say at the moment I think you would have to judge at the end of the season but if moyes wins the league he will of done very well,
If fergy was in charge of any of city United or Chelsea I would expect that team to win the league I wouldn't say the same about moyes.

For me the jury is still out on moyes so it is difficult to say what he would of done with the Chelsea team time will tell how good a manager he is

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair play Jred.

Fingers crossed we can win this league. it would be a huge statement to the rest. That even when City spend £100m they still cannot get the better of a transitioning MU team. City and Chelsea spending billions to get to where we are and even with SAF gone we are still the team to beat. let's hope we can make it happen this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2013 19:08:48
Really happy to see Januzaj get some game time but I really would like to see a more fluid line up. Something like a holding pair of Carrick and Fellaini with a fluid front 3 of Kagawa Rooney and Januzaj and RVP up top with Nani and Zaha on the bench. We have to give Januzaj a new contract and give him some game time.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Maybe Zaha instead of Januzzi
Kagawa Rooney Zaha
behind RvP sorted

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2013 19:01:35
Why in the world do we let our highest ability youth prospects go down to one year left in their contract? Pogba and Januzaj. I hope to god we do not let Januzaj go he has the potential to be an absolute worldie. Get him tied down for 5 years as soon as possible!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Sep 2013 17:21:16
I'd sell young cleverly and possibly wellbeck. But definitely the first two. If we sign Herrera in January there is no place for them.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Nonsense. It's a squad game for crying out loud. Some people really haven't got a clue.

Agree0 Disagree0

MU will want to keep an English core of players. They would also like to keep young English players who have been developed by the club. These players are all happy enough to remain squad players too, which in this day and age is rare. There is every chance Young could be sold in the summer given Nani signing a new deal, but Welbeck and Cleverley will be at the club for several more years.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2013 18:27:52
No keep them, they'll go fine with your other average players like Fellaini and that average spanish guy Herrera.

Don't for god sake start buying class.

And hey Syd! was around your place earlier talking to your mates Mickey and Goofy, now I know where you get these crazy predictions.

Come back over to the blues yet or seeing how it pans out this season.

Great game today by the way, two Championship sides slugging it out. Couple of great dead ball goals too. Quality.

Do you think the weight issue is why Anderson can't jump that high.

Agree0 Disagree0

Marcellus Wallace,

It would be worse, instead of Welbeck and Cleverley we could end up with real dross like Bertrand, Mceachran, Mikel & Terry!

How does it feel to be the 3rd best side in London? behind Arsenal and Spurs?

Then again, seeing as you're an ex Fulham fan you know all about Mediocrity.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we might buy another cm yet which will put cleverly even further down the pecking order.
I think even his biggest fans are starting to accept he will only be a squad player for a team like United, if he is happy with that great if not he may want to move.
I think he would do well at a team like Everton and I would swap him for Barkley in a heart beat

Agree0 Disagree0

Speaking of average, did you catch the first half against Everton?

Agree0 Disagree0

If you look how many midfielders Spurs have and then consider we will lose the likes of Giggs, Anderson & Jones (to defence) over the next year. Then consider Carrick is 33. There is little chance that Cleverley will be sold anytime soon.

Agree0 Disagree0

Congratulations Marcellus for looking like a fool! I think its high time you shift your base to North London. I should call you Marcellus "Plastic-us".

By the way how does it feel to sing like muppets "We will see you next week Wayne Rooney"? You will always be a "small" time club. Wait till Roman gives you lot the pink slip. Ohh I forgot you will jump ship and support someone else.

Deeps.

Agree0 Disagree0

More over did you see the final result

Agree0 Disagree0

Hello Marcellus I do hope you enjoyed the Everton game as much as we did;).

Ps in the summer when you are looking for a new manager David Moyes is not available.

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha, marcellus has crept back to the bridge he lives under (obviously after he's seen the final result) I've got a theory for why he's on this site so often as well, has anyone been on to the chelsea page, it's like a bloody ghost town, clearly chelsea fans don't know squat about football so he comes on here because his own fans aren't worth talking to. I've said this before as well marcellus- please keep posting as it makes a hillarious read, whenever I see your name I can't wait to read the rubbish you write as so often it's laugh out loud funny!

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd. I'd maybe go with cleverly as a squad player but young is simply woeful. He dives. Can't cross a ball or beat a man.

Wellbeck must add goals!

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2013 17:08:17
Januzji (spelling) was brilliant today, albeit that it was against 10 men and crystal palace. The big worry is he is in the final year of his contract. Hurry up and get him to sign an extension before a European signs him.

Can't lose this talent.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's under contract until 2015 mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

It may actually be one year left as Transfermarkt has him down as signing in 2012 when he signed in 2011. So I think he does have one year left.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney he is in the final year of his contract. Utd are in negotiations with him to get him to sign a five year deal. Barcelona, juventus, ac Milan and bayern have been asked to be kept informed.

Please ed Woodward, don't be cheap, give him the deal he wants.

Agree0 Disagree0

We wouldn't be contemplating sending him out on loan if he had one year left on his contract. Not unless he signs a new deal first. According to Transfermarkt he is under contract until 2015. He signed a 3-year deal when he joined MU. I think the confusion is whether he signed a 3-year deal when he arrived or when he turned 17. I think he will sign a new deal in the next couple of weeks, just a hunch.

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's not put too much pressure on the lad but moyes quotes are encouraging about him. He said he was pushing for a start and it was a tough choice to only put him on the bench. I think it is safe to say at 1-0 against crystal palace fergie would have had giggs ready to bring on and januzaj would only have got a game at 3 or 4-0.

I know syd has been championing him for a long time and so have I, he has the technical ability to be one of the best players in the world, but we just need to encourage him and let him make his mistakes and learn. Fortunately united fans are definitely willing to do that as we love a young player coming through rather than overpaid players thinking they have already made it and putting in sub par performances.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2013 17:02:31
firstly, game today not great but importantly got the 3 points.

not going to comment on the first half, but for me what was interesting was our performance after the substitutions. fellaini had a solid debut, won every ball in the air in midfield (which we usually get pushed back) and bar a couple, every header managed to find a red shirt which kept us on the front foot, instead of allowing teams to come at us too much (as in previous games/seasons). his passing was also very good, although often played short his simple passing was very effective and linked well with januzaj and carrick in particular. because we were mostly on the front foot his tackling and defensive play didn't really come into play too much but for me what was most telling was his very presence, esp in the penalty area for corners, as there was a certain expectation that something could happen in the same way that used to happen when becks stepped up to a free kick

when januzaj came on he just proved why he is so highly thought of by the club, a definite rising star and I just hope signs a very long contract, eager to get on the ball, he showed good running off the ball and ran at (and past) defenders when on it, he did cut in a fair bit so I hope he doesn't become to obvious. that being said, he has the skill, touch and composure that he could be very important to us, and imo is probably already a greater threat than young, who, with nani signing a 5yr deal, is surely headed for the door if not in january then surely the summer.

i hope Moyes gives him and the other youths, plenty of chances, and januzaj opens the door for likes of the powells and co to get first team games, as we could have a very good young team in a couple of years, esp with a front four with rooney or chicarito upfront, kagawa behind and zaha and januzaj on either flank, put that in front of a fellaini and jones midfield partnership and you would have a very strong and exciting line up

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Sep 2013 16:11:18
After Moyes comments, do you think we will go back in for Herrera? I'm doubting it now. I would quite like Muniain though! Seeing how well Januzaj did today just shows how well a player like that can do.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What he say?

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2013 16:08:36
Guys I missed the game today, saw only last 10 mins :(

I would really prefer Nani or Januzaj over Ashley Young.

Valencia and Zaha for the Right and Nani and Januzaj for Left.

Ship out Young while we still can and when we can still get some money for him otherwise he will end up being an immovable asset like Anderson.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Sep 2013 15:54:18
Good result. Good to have Anderson on and if he can stay injury free he will surprise a fee. Someone said he was rubbish today, I actually thought he had a good game and against 10 men should have stayed on 2nd half. I thought carrick should have come off as he was poor today. Fellaini bossed the midfield after coming on albeit against 10 men and he will be a "big" player for us and certainly worry every team from set pieces also which is something we've been missing.
Nice to see Fabio get a full game regardless of a few stray passes, tactically he played well. Januzaj I've said before reminds me a lot of Ginola. Just effortlessly glides past players without breaking sweat. Great to see him on. Ashley young? Can he play a 1 touch pass or an easy 5 yard pass?
Positives for me today though of Fellaini, Januzaj, Anderson and Fabio.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Supasub

I am lucky enough to have excellent eyesight, even at my age, however the Anderson I saw was poor and find it hard to understand how he is still at the club. It can only be that Moyes has come in and promised a clean slate for everyone. Today he should be able to see that Anderson is never going to be good enough.
Carrick however had a good game and actually was the MOM, a far cry from Andersons performance.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well if carrick got man if the match I'm amazed. He was invisible and a bit sloppy IMO. Anderson always looked to get forward an rarely gave the ball away which can't be said for a few of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Red Man, couldn't agree more. And Anderson is still here because no club are interested in buying him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Michael Owen gave Carrick MOM on BT sport

Agree0 Disagree0

Carrick was awesome today mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Anderson didn't give the ball away? I remember more misplaced passes than accurate ones and he even fell over the ball a couple of times. I like Anderson but he was poor today.

Agree0 Disagree0

Anderson was abysmal IMO and I am a usual supporter of his. Gave the ball away time after time!

Very pleased wit our second half performance fellaini is just what was needed to add steel. Januzij (spelling) is a very very special player his development will be very exciting to watch an for me is the most exciting player we have. Young played ok but his antics are embarrassing. Evra at one stage was playing beside RVP an had someone covering constantly I know they are a man down away from home and losing. look it wasnt a goal route but we won kept a clean sheet good day

Bit sloppy at times but we got the win and another clean sheet which is good. Some players rested for Tuesday too.

Most interesting thing for me today though were the subs, especially Fellaini and Januzaj. In these 2 players we seemingly added the attributes we have lacked for a while i.e. composure and physical presence next to Carrick in CM and creativity and trickery in the attacking 3rd.

Very positive for Moyes to chuck on Januzaj and Hernandez at 1-0 I thought, bodes well for the future hopefully.

Hope you are doing well mate! Januzaj was refreshing to say the least. Easily guides past players, hasn't got pace like say Josh King but is deceptively fast. My only concern is his build and if he is man marked by teams. If he puts on some weight, he will be unstoppable!

On another note, John Mcenroe scored a great free kick, was MOTM for me. No one links up the forward and midfield like he does for us. On song, fit and motivated he still is our best player!

Deeps.

First of all, why so much negativity about Kagawa not playing? It has been confirmed that he's got the flu.

Anyway, we got the much needed 3 points today. There are a couple of positives to be taken out of this game:

1)Moyes achieved his first victory at as Manchester United manager at Old Trafford and it helps him take off some pressure from his back.

2)Apart from Gayle's (?) chance which was pretty close to goal, there wasn't any other decent chance for CP.De Gea must had been bored throughout the game.

3)Rooney returns.

4)Carrick was solid once again.

5)Is it me or is Valencia gradually gaining his confidence back, he looked really lively today.

6)Fellaini made a solid debut, could have scored one as well.

7)Rooney and Rvp continue to deliver the goods so far without problem.

8)Januzaj looked bright, he is going to be a star.We need to make sure we keep him.We had more creativity when he came on.

However, we haven't scored from open play in 3 conscecutive games, but I'm sure this will improve when Kagawa's back and Nani gets more game time.

Bayer and City next, can't wait!

Lads, you need to get over it, if Kagawa is ill then he is ill. This is perfectly plausible as travelling really can take it out of you and you become more susceptible to these sorts of things.

So many positives from todays games. Rooney was excellent, looked happy and got stuck in. Januzaj was the man of the match for me despite only playing 20 minutes, we have some player on our hands with that one and it looks as though he will be involved. Fellaini too was excellent, he is going to turn out to be a brilliant signing for us, really bossed the midfield from his very first touch and almost got on the score sheet. Fabio also was good.

As usual though, Valencia flattered to deceive and Young was below par. But it was a good performance, not enough goals but we are going in the right direction I'm certain.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought Valencia was good today.

I thought Anderson was rubbish today. Januzaj looked like a real prospect on the left wing. Overall could have been better but 3 points in the bag. That's all that matters.

Very happy to see januzaj feature. Lately under sir alex when we were dominating he would not bring on the youngsters, so glad to see moyes do this. Overall happy with the result and now let's hope we see Kagawa feature in the champions league on tuesday

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Same here, he has real talent and will only improve if given chances. I've thought he looks more composed and more ready than Zaha TBH so I'm glad Moyes gave him the chance over Wilfried today. He paid back the manager with a terrific cameo.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't have minded seeing Zaha on the right and Januzaj on the left.

Januzaj looked quality when he came on, looked better than Young if i'm honest.

Felliani looked like he added a bit of Steel in the defense which let Carrick go forward a bit more.

Wasn't the best we have played but we got the 3 points.

No need to say "if i'm honest" comparing young to anybody. I agree though Januzaj played brilliantly. Would like to see him stay learn in training and get chances against the likes if palace this season!

Almost 225 minutes played and we can't create a real chance of goal in 3 different games. Yes we scored. From a penalty.

We are more composed defending, we recover the ball quickly, but still not good enough attacking.

I wish a better 2nd half, with more attractive football and goals. Maybe Wellbeck and Nani can create something, at least more than Valencia.

Yes, the final result is what really matters but we need more creativity. Shame we kind lost Ozil.

Cant create a chance? Are you watching the same game. Against the pool I agree we were poor attacking but today was a solid display tbf.

Januzaj ~ Ozil

Adnan reminds me of Ozil, though of course he has a ways to go: he is left-footed, languid in style, very intelligent player who uses deceptiveness rather than raw speed. He also has the confidence and presence to float around the pitch into dangerous pockets of space.

More than most players, even at his young age, he understands how not to show the ball to the defender, evidenced by his nice turn and his shielding today. He showed some nice flashes today, I want to see how he handles a higher intensity match, hopefully he will be given more chances soon.

And he has that quiet confidence, you can see he knows he is good.

Most people on here are forgetting we have a game in Tuesday night aswell hence why Nani, kagawa have been left out

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Sep 2013 13:40:06
What's going on this site? Kagawa is ill so moyes is out of his depth? Are people serious? Why don't you grow up? It seems like The Moons the only sane person on here at the moment. As for young he just won the penalty so I'm glad he wasn't left out today. Seriously some of you are embarrassing to have as fans and need to learn some patience. If you Judge a manager on his team selection and not the performance of the team then you should go back and play football manager.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well said! We've got a huge squad, if people are going to moan every time someone is left out it's going to be a long old season.

Getting proper annoyed with this Kagawa exclusion now, has 'flu' apparently.

And due to all the travel he wouldn't play nonsense Chica is at least on bench. As got Young I would have left him at Anfield and told him not to bother coming back.

Have defended moyes a lot but of he's going to play jokers like young and leans out real talent like Kagawa then he's just showing how woeful he is tbh.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Kagawa was never going to start today due to the travelling and jet-lag. How often did Hernandez and Kagawa start last season in similar circumstances? Never.

It has been confirmed Kagawa has flu. I'd expect he will be ready for Leverkusen.

Agree0 Disagree0

And the other 3 games? Another inept performance today aswell. I take your point Syd but we need to be playing our best players especially when we can't create chances.

Plus side though Syd Januzaj looking good!

Agree0 Disagree0

Welsh, DM has confirmed why Kagawa hasn't been playing. He has been hampered by the Confed Cup and internationals.

Januzaj is a good player and I hope the club can tie him down to a new deal.

Last game though he didn't have flu or traveled a lot moyes Said he picked nani instead and that's just for a place on the bench

Ok to start with I was happy moyes was appointed but now he just seems to be way out of his depth the transfer window was a shambles and his constant picking of 4 4 2 showing he has no idea everyone else on the planet can see how poor young and Valencia are except him if he insists on playing wingers at least play zaha who will take players on and stick in a half decent cross with the players we have we need to be playing a 4 2 3 1 or 4 3 3 if notes doesn't get with the times soon we are going to get left behind is anybody else as depressed as me when they saw the team today?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The formation it shows on TV is the EXPECTED formation.

No Kagawa involved at all again. getting p1ssed off with this. {Ed007's Note - He is supposedly ill today JK.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Kagawa is Ill.

Instead of crying about Kagawa not being in the side despite running his socks off for Japan a matter of days ago, why don't you look at the brighter side of things?

Rooney is back, Januzaj on the bench, Zaha on the bench, Rio and Vidic at CB.

Plenty of positives for today.

Don't judge me based on 1 negative post moon. I have been positive on twitter lol.

So moyes has confirmed evra wasn't going to leave this summer although I think this may be his last year.
And we only bid 23 for Herrera which I think is a bit low.
Think Rooney might make the squad but kags May miss out

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Rumours on Tw@tter that Kags is suffering from flu.

True or not I can't see him starting after all that travel. Not when Giggs has been resting at home with his pipe and slippers.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would be very surprised to see Kags start after international duty. It's very rare players like Hernandez and Kagawa start after international duty, especially in a Saturday game, especially at 12:45.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney starts, kags not in the squad

Agree0 Disagree0

Glad to see Rooney starting, no way should a cut on the head keep you out for a month. He would have been itching to get on the pitch. I imagine he went against medical advice which is a great sign. {Ed044's Note - He would not be doing anything against medical advice Sydney! It would almost certainly invalidate the insurance.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed044, that makes sense, but I'd imagine the doctors would have preferred him to not play in this game. {Ed044's Note - I really have no idea Sydney!}

"The manager must decide where I play but I want to play defensive midfield, "

This is very reassuring to read, he knows it is his best position, I think the one person who doesn't is Henning Berg (a few days ago he said he would like to see MF further forward for us) I believe that Moam could be a truly great player for us in a deep role but never as an attacking player, and it is nice to see him appreciate that his best position isn't the glamorous role but rather as an enforcer which we haven't had for a good few years now
