I just love Lvg. No messing about. Can someone introduce him to my mother in law?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

16 Jul 2015 00:21:25
Does she not fit the philosophy either?

Agree6 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 23:28:06
Lvg speaking about philosophy and process does my head in. I'm not surprised valdes didn't want to play in the reserves after his career! learn how to man manage and not pick class favourites Louis, the best managers keep their best players happy

Believable1 Unbelievable9

15 Jul 2015 23:47:07
Valdes isn't one of the best players, so that makes no sense.

Agree5 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 23:53:09
Pepgiggs the best managers win titles. He has managed huge names with huge egos yes even egos bigger than his own , Valdés has played 2 competitive matches on 2years and has a very handsome contract if he does not want to prove himself in the reserves after 2 years out then please sell him. He has zero experience of British football he should be grasping every chance available for minutes on the pitch.

Agree5 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 23:44:25
De dead his favourite? Quite simply the better player? He even kept rap on the bench more often than not?

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 00:33:57
Im talking about adm not valdes

Agree0 Disagree4

16 Jul 2015 08:01:08
Favourites?
I thought that was RvP who is now in turkey?

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 08:02:17
Pep. seriously! Valdes was put there to get match fit and keep sharp. How are keepers meant to do that without playing?
He should have said yes please.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 08:30:39
Philosophy and process are just lost in translastion. I'm sure his English is better than your Dutch? Just picks class favourites? Didn't help RvP did it. Players often have to spend time in the reserves and from what I understand, Valdes is going because he defied the manager and refused to play in the reserves. A sackable offence in my book. No messing, well done LvG.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 08:48:55
I don't think am is van Gaal favourite or else he wouldve picked him ahead of young last year.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 09:05:53
No exactly Singh. Lvg favourites are players you wouldn't expect ie valencia, young and fellaini.

Agree0 Disagree1

16 Jul 2015 10:18:29
see if they are favourites now we have better choices. They were favs out of necessisity

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 23:13:26
What I don't understand about Adm is that there are clear cut quotes from many years ago that he supported manchester united and I guess appeared to flash his clam shell at us when he was at Benfica. What has changed? And was it just said at the time because we held an interest at the time he was at Benfica. He's not once come out with similar qoutes since he's been here.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

16 Jul 2015 07:51:36
Quotes from footballers mean nothing , one day they're telling you it's always been their dream to play for a Manchester United , next day it would be a great honour to play for Real Madrid .

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 23:11:18
What a window its going to be if we are to sign two goalkeepers. Just when we thought our business is about done. Maybe we are only half way through with the numbers.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

15 Jul 2015 23:07:54
When you don't follow my philosophy then there is only one way and that is out, LVG won't have us authority questioned clearly, good.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

15 Jul 2015 23:07:32
Jesus christ lvg u have balls to explain valdes decision, did you lose your pair to explain why you don't want adm!!!!! Those comments mean nothing ! Is he saying he wants to sell him but bids aren't high enough yet so he'l wait for upto 60 or is saying that its up to di maria if he wants to stay or go. Just be clear! Hopefully someone will chase di maria for a quote now

Believable1 Unbelievable5

15 Jul 2015 23:39:20
coming out and saying what he said about Valdes is one thing , he didn't cost anything and was only in on a short term deal .
If he came out and said he didn't want Di Maria that would affect the price we'd get for him if we want to sell

Agree3 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 08:34:04
Pep do you really expect any manager to do that? Just tell the world he wants rid? That's as bad as Woody saying we have loads of money, and he's learned from his mistakes of last season.
Clubs say nothing, they let the press chew on things and say whatever sells their rags!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 18:53:15
Can any of the eds let us know who we have in mind to fill the gap left by rvp and falcao? I would imagine the club would be looking to renew interest in cavani if available? Ed002 mentioned lewandowski apparently we were interested when fergie was incharge? And I would guess we may see how much Tottenham want for Kane?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - There's more chance of signing Lewandowski than Kane.}

16 Jul 2015 03:30:47
what a time to be alive.

Agree3 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 22:51:55
Well its clear that valdes is out and Van Gaal is not happy with him at all with refusing to play with the u21's! So let's hope talk of him to valencia is true as it could help us in terms of getting Otamendi (possibly clutching at straws)

Believable1 Unbelievable0

15 Jul 2015 23:08:19
Yeah was very interesting . Think there is going to be lots of twists and turns in this window yet. I can see us signing van Persie tbh.

Agree2 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 23:13:05
Did he not play for our reserves last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 23:21:16
valdes struggled to get a game last year even in the cup games .
i wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't recovered from his injury

Valdes is gone then, interesting!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

15 Jul 2015 22:42:11
Not sure if I'm getting this right, watching the press conference on a dodgy stream but it seems like valdes is being sold because he didn't want to play second fiddle to de gea! So maybe de gea is staying.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

15 Jul 2015 22:41:23
Wow no messing around where Valdes is concerned

Believable1 Unbelievable0

15 Jul 2015 22:38:48
Flip sake, Louis. Don't hold back on Valdes!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

15 Jul 2015 22:03:20
Benteke or lewandowski n I'm going to stick my neck and say prefer big Chris, proven in the premiership. I'm not doubting that lewandowski is the better of the 2 but only have to look at falcao to realise the bigger the name doesn't always bring the best results

Believable1 Unbelievable5

15 Jul 2015 22:22:40
Immobile, bad attitude and injury prone.

We just sold one of them last week, we don't need another.

15 Jul 2015 22:30:58
Behave MB, there is no comparison between the 2 quality wise, PL experience or not.

Agree3 Disagree1

15 Jul 2015 22:57:32
CTR, Immobile was wick at Dortmund and has just gone to Sevilla on loan. catch up with the news mate! ;) ;)

Agree1 Disagree1

15 Jul 2015 23:05:01
Again with the ridiculous posts about something someone knows nothing about Chris what the hell are you basing his bad attitude on? If he was that bad sherwood would not be fighting tooth and nail to keep him! Absolutely ridiculous statement not a shred of foundation to i Fair enough if he's not your preferred option but don't make false accusations about the personality of someone who u have never met

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 23:09:51
Statement of Bacuna (someone who does know Benteke)

"The time he got injured was just before the World Cup," said Bacuna.

"I felt really bad for him. I saw him smiling and stuff and I said to him 'do you not feel it'?

"He said that God just taught him to be happy. That's also what his parents taught him"

Sounds like a real bad apple

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 23:29:01
@ Brenden, I said that in the OP that I'm not doubting who the better player is, just mean the bigger names don't necessarily mean they will be a better fit

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 23:32:17
WhoAteAllDepays, in Chris' defence I believe one of the Ed's had recently said that Benteke has a bad attitude. Key word here being 'think'.

Agree2 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 23:53:59
Whoateallthedeapys,

My opinion has as much weight as yours! Have u met him?

Your opinion is based on a pr media trained team mate saying what he has too. Not only that if those comments are true ( I have no reason to doubt them) it makes no difference, I'd expect any player to be upset at missing a WC.

Your basing your opinion on that quote I'm basing mine on the fact he went on strike or at least threatened to in Belgium.

Handed in a transfer request in his first season at villa as soon as a few bigger clubs were looking at him.

And he generally doesn't seem a 'team' player which won't fit in here.

The boy has ability but chooses to be lazy and not exercise them nearly enough. That's my opinion on him after watching for the last 2/3 seasons in England.

Agree4 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 21:27:10
Evening fellow reds. I've been a reader on this site for many years, but never really posted. Decided that rather getting silently frustrated with some of the statements on here, is join in!

Just wanted to say I've enjoyed the site today due to the input from Ed001, and the clear out by ed002!

Really excited about the signings so far, but like the rest hoping we can secure a CB and a striker before the season starts!

15 Jul 2015 21:20:31
Lots of love on here today which is great to see. I am really looking forward to what promises to be a really competitive season
Keeper situation is very unclear and is my major concern going into the new season if ddg stays and signs a pre contract with Madrid in Jan we are in a terrible position. The Valdés situation is strange as it was totally unexpected. My questions to the posters here are 1what would you do if you were lvg and 2what do you think will actually happen?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

15 Jul 2015 22:07:40
1.lvg has to be looking for a goalkeeper to come in, he should just ask de Gea his intentions if real don't make a form offer for him.

2.unfortunately I don't think we are realistically going to let his contract run down and will accept a late bid towards the end of the window for an undisclosed fee, which won't be a lot

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 21:16:26
Liverpool are reportedly planning on spending their Sterling windfall on Benteke or Reus. However from what I read their pre-add-on take is around 35m when you allow for the sell-on fee owed to QPR. They have already spent 10m more than that. This is not to say they can't afford to spend on a marquee name, but they will have to dip into the pocket to do it.

Given the fact that our revenues are going to be nearly twice theirs, 30m to them is the equivalent of 60m to us.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

15 Jul 2015 22:27:51
Liverpool to be fair seem to have money but having a sh!t manager an no champions league won't help matters.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 21:11:18
Been reading the news and must say very pleased with our signings and for the first time in a years in feels like we are building a team that can win at any level and also not need root canal in the next few years but a few additions here and there.

I still think we have a few more signings coming and would not be surprised to see a few more big names leaving and by the looks of it have cleared some chunky wages off our books so all in all hats off to Edwards, who is managing the club very well.

Agree1 Disagree0

Rvp? Will the press conference be live streamed anywhere?

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 20:11:02
Just a thought.

How about DDG going to Real. Di Maria being sold and Ronaldo in return. Could be affordable and popular. I didn't say sensible though.

Could sound good for the short term for many.

Let us not forget the Fergie era though. That evolved with kids. Not money. Most stayed till the end as well. Which can cause consistency.
Not a bad thing as we know.

15 Jul 2015 20:26:20

Not trying to be all sentimental and / or brown nosing. But I just thought I'd say how good the site has been today. Not sure if it was the 'calm after yesterday's storm' or what. But the page today is back to how it used to be. No conflict or unnecessary arguements (although I did ask if a new poster, Rollo, was actually JMB for which I apologise!!) and everyone with constructive and interesting posts. Also, a big thanks to the Eds, especially 001. I can't remember any other day when there was so much interaction and banter, as well as useful information from the Eds. We all miss Ed 002, but today showed that there are more than just him/her who can provide the info we all crave.
I know everyone is entitled to air their views, but the site is so much better without the bitching and attention seeking.
Have a good evening all :)

I feel sick, as it would have been bad manners not to eat it, and it was free, I like free. Free is good. Sounds like you had a good time anyway, and you are spot on about the talking point thing. I've spent hours and hours over the years, in some odd places talking to locals about United and football. One of my favourites was talking to an old chap about the 1999 CL Final while he was selling chips outside an amphitheatre in Tunisia!

Yeah the chap in Tunisia was a Villa fan, but his son was a United fan, hence the CL final topic. Another I chatted to was a tour guide in Giza, walking up the steps inside the Great Pyramid and in the burial chamber, didn't learn much about the Pyramid but had a great time. He, bizarrely, was a Portsmouth fan. Great times, and shows what a wonderful sport it can be, and how wonderful people can be too, leaves you with fantastic, lifelong memories.

I really don't get the mentality of people on here, they act like getting benteke would be a bad thing but think johnny evans is good enough? I sometimes think i'm the subject of one huge windup that's been arranged to make me feel like i'm going crazy! Benteke was nominated for pfa young player of the year just over 12 months ago and people act like he's somehow not man utd quality? The same people in the same breath drool over kane for doing the exact same thing. Kane went missing at UTD but Benteke went searching and found the net!! Kanes performance against chelsea put him in the spotlight and that light shined especially bright because he's English. I will put cold hard cash down with anybody that if Benteke came to us he will outscore kane next season. Iv said it before that if benteke didn't get injured before the world cup he would have left villa last season bagged a fair few in the wc and everyone would be crying on here about how well he would suit us.

Difference is ones a homegrown player, good lad who's come through the academy and who we've turned into a professional, the other is an overrated so and so who would cost in excess of 30m when we can get much better for a similar price, ala Benzema, Lewandowski, Lacazette.

If we were to sign him i certainly wouldn't be disappointed i think he is a player that offers a lot as a striker but no knowing that lewi is available from BM I've got fingers crossed on him as i think he is up with the worlds best strikers

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 19:53:37
First, he was nominated 2 years ago. Second, Welbeck was also nominated the year he was, and Kyle Walker is a past winner, so I'm not sure if being nominated for a pfa young player award means that the player is necessarily top quality. Third, Villa are looking for major money for him, 30m +. Fourth, when players like Benzema and Lewandowski are available for relatively similar prices, why would anyone pay it for Benteke unless they weren't capable of convincing a genuinely top class striker to sign?

Agree3 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 20:13:50
Calm down lol

I'd go all out to sign Lewandowski rather than Benteke. If we don't get a top top striker, then I'd even suggest we go for Charlie Austin rather than Benteke and look to develop Depay and Wilson

Benteke isn't pacey enough for my liking and wouldn't appreciate us spending over £30 million on someone like him, when Austin who imo is similar would be available for a third of that

15 Jul 2015 20:40:01
Its not even just him HB its people saying they don't want players like cavani etc were talking about real class proven players that people sneer at but then say things like evans is good enough.

Sorry for the rant guys i just find it frustrating sometimes that people want players with fancy names or with grapevine hype but turn their noses up at proven players

Ur right DP it was 2 years ago runner up to bale but i still stand by my point he has been successfull in the prem with a pretty poor team and I don't think people should be posting things like please don't tell me were in for him when he would be a great addition to add goals which he's proven to do

Come here and suck on my moobie pieboy.
It's quite simple really, I'm sure everyone would be happy with Benteke, if he was a £15m replacement for little pea. The problem is the rumour of £32m+. A fee of which can obtain Lewandowski, Benzema or Lacazette for example. Benteke is not in the league of these gentlemen. AND NEITHER IS KANE (yet).

When did it become common knowledge that these players were available for 32m? For a start last I heard lacazette was 42m and it was only 2 seasons ago lacazette wasn't hitting double figures. let's not forget aswel he plays in Ligue Poono but i suppose he's the name being passed around as tge next big thing so hey he must be. And as for your moobie u can jog on, u may even lose them as a result of said jog

If Lewandawski is available for this mythical £35m then I'll go and pick him up from Munich after I've dropped Evans off at arsenal!!
Benteke is a good player and offers something different, but HB hit it on the head when he said that benteke is not the type of player we need to fit in the system. Lewandawski on the other hand is something special. If he's available then we should do our utmost to get him. World class.

Who said Lewandowski is available or are you guys just making this stuff up. Did anyone think about the fact that Bayern themselves have every ambition to win every competition next year and if they sold lewandowski, they would be without a proper striker.

Does that sound like what one of the biggest teams in football would do?

I think getting a big name striker is going to be hard as everyone of the big names plays for a big club and is not surplus to requirement and in many ways essential to the success of those clubs next year.

I suspect we might sign someone that might not be a household name, which will give us 10 to 15 goals.

There are so many options. I imagine the most settled pairing will be Herrera and Schneiderlin with either Carrick or Schweinsteiger behind.

Fellaini will come in if we really need to mix things up and use his height (but if we get Lewandowski then even that might be redundant). Mata could come in for a bit more vision.

Blind I think will be playing second choice left back as we currently don't have one. Marcos Rojo third choice centre back behind Smalling and hopefully Otamendi.

We have so many fantastic options.

Interesting posts on Arsenal site: we're both looking for strikers and, weighing it up, reckon we're both fighting for Benzema.

And Lewandowski available for the right price.

So, who would people rather have: Benzema or Lewandowski?

Probably Lwandowski for me: seems more suited to the Premiership.

Though if Arsenal get Benzema, will be some team when all fit.

Guaranteed 20 goals a season and his hold up play is exceptional. He'd be the ideal striker and would make us title challengers.

You lot are doing some very good business this window, I think the Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin signings will prove pivitol to next season, I am interested to see how that will work. It leaves Carrick in a bit of a funny place, though you are in more competitions next year so I am sure he will find game time along the way somewhere. Add Lewandowski to your team I think you're a genuine title contender for sure. Hate to say it, as you can probably tell i'm on the red half of Merseyside but its difficult to see you lads firstly dropping out of that top four although, i'd love it if you did and its hard to see how you won't push on and have a real go. It would have been interesting to see how Moyes would have faired given the same amount of money, though I do feel he wasn't quite qualified enough to take them to the next level. City & yourselves investing heavily, Arsenal & Chelsea being Arsenal and Chelsea and ourselves pumping more cash into transfers yet again it is diificult to see who is going to drop out, after all you can't fit 5 into 2.

We should all be better than last season, I don't think Chelsea are as far ahead as some people make out. They just ground out results a lot more, as champions need to sometimes. They hit the ground running unlike others and it set them up for the rest of the season. It's going to be very interesting!

I like Shaw a lot and think he will prove his worth and some. It would also seem he has already got a good relationship with Depay from what I have seen of photos on his twitter and the club pictures of them going on tour, they always seem to be together. If Depay is to play out wide left, they could form a great partnership which will bring the best of out of both of them. As for Mata, I hope he stays and is a regular, I think he has so much to offer the team as as you say, our midfield looks defensively stronger now so hopefully can remove some of the pressure on him defensively.

Well done that is something to be proud of

I don't have anything that good but when I was young I represented my county at junior level cricket, was part of my club team that won the Under21 county cup and later played against several notable international players such as Andy Flower and John Crawley plus some Sheffield Shield Aussies.

One story on football worth sharing was when young playing against a couple of Scousers on a Welsh beach whilst on holiday. I gave one a tough time but he had a nice left foot, his dad said he was on Liverpool's books, his name was Mike Newell. The best footballer I ever played against was Geoff Foulkes, son of Billy, astonishing talent when young and sadly didn't make it but believe me he was very talented.

Very glad to have made it through the 60s and 70s intact and am now a virtually retired grandfather of a 6 year old, a girly girl, who came home from school one day and said to my son, okay Dad, I suppose I'll play soccer (she lives in Connecticut so she doesn't know what football is).

Other than that I am the most successful mediocrity I know. Luck is the most important factor in life, and I've been very lucky.

Pursuing a post-career career in songwriting and am excited that I'm going to be back in the UK next week. Will be in Manchester for a family wedding and then Bury for a recording session with one of my old buddies, and then taking in the Spurs game, if my other pal comes up with the tkts.

The one deep disappointment in my life is that while I was away on a trip a few years ago my wife decided she liked Arsenal, and became a supporter, relegating us to second fiddle. Does that outweigh all the rest? Almost, but not quite. Only because when it comes to head to heads she prefers us to win, ranking her marriage more than her team. Typical woman!!!

I used to play American Football, got an offer to go and play for the Colorado State Rams - didn't go in the end. Currently involved with American Football coaching in the - formally a youth coach at the Barcelona Dragons.

I'm launching a new American Football equipment store in a few weeks and I've also given 'English' football talks to some local sides (mainly tactical). I never played much football past the Sunday leagues in Spain and over here in the UK.

For some of you that don't know I am Spanish.

I'm also hoping to get into some form of Sunday league football management/coaching and/or scouting.

As with CTR I have football in the blood, my dad was being watched by Bob Bishop (he was the United scout who found Georgie) on numerous occasions. When he began to move up the footballing ladder, at 18 his career meant he had to play for a specific team in those days - those from NI will most likely know what I mean, so it wasn't to be, however I probably wouldn't be here if it had happened, so can't really complain I suppose haha!

Followed in the father's footsteps in becoming a striker, played at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal's ground as i'm sure is obvious, representing my country. Young for my age, and when I moved up to the older team I hadn't even started to fill out, whilst the majority of CBs/MFs I played had done so, and so I filtered out. Should have moved to another team my age, but chose to challenge myself, and here I am at Uni in Liverpool no longer playing football. Thinking about starting again though.

Some interesting reads!

My brother used to play for pro team but as he got older his mind started to drift to women and drink with these girls being more interested in him being a pro footballer? As a result, he was released and gutted, nearly to a depressive state! We told him but as a youngster you think you know everything? Don't get me wrong, he's happy now, but oh how things could have been soooo different!

Currently work as a groundworker but I'm only young so have plenty of time for that to change. I played as a right back because I was pretty quick and strong, ruined my muscles and ligaments in my leg so I sometimes have a struggle running so that was football over. Took up boxing and was pretty good at it, regret not going further with it as one lad I used to train with is midlands champion at his weight and another has turned professional. Bit gutting to see them go and think I could have been there. United related things are that when I was a kid my dad took me to a game against Wigan on Boxing Day, we were sat right next to the tunnel and van der sar threw his gloves into the crowd. It skimmed my dad's fingers but he's not the tallest so he couldn't quite get it. It fell right into someone's lap who was sat on his phone paying no attention. Also my uncle has just bought a box at old Trafford so I'll hopefully have a couple of trips in there!
Great to find out more about people and to share info about myself!

On the other hand the press and the eds mention he is available at the righ price.

Could you just speculate as to what you think these two things mean at which I should believe? Only looking for your opinion mate I'm not going to hold you accountable for anything :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is available for sale at the right price, Bayern would deal with United if they were willing to meet the fee being asked. What has been said is just a bit of saber rattling to appease the fans, similar to the I wouldn't sell that lot a virus comment. At the end of the day, Lewandowski is unhappy at not being first choice, Bayern are willing to move him on, so it is just who will give them the best deal.}

Man City are only out, at the moment at least, due to holding out hope of attracting Pep to manage them next summer.

15 Jul 2015 13:58:53

Back to the Evans debate:

Evans benefited from having Ferdinand beside him on one side and Evra on the other. They made a decent player look much better than his natural ability would indicate. He is not a leader or of the playing quality to stand in their shoes. He is not, as they say, pari passu. When given the opportunity rather than carpaying the diem, he fluffed his lines. Just like O'Shea really. A good squad player when surrounded by great team mates, but you wouldn't want to throw all your eggs in that basket unless you have a yearning to become Sunderland.

Verdict: Not good enough for United in the post- Ferdinand/Vidic era.

Like Cleverley, let's say thanks and wish him good luck, confident in the expectation he will not come back to haunt us, even if by some chance he does a Welbeck on us and scores. Aaah, the irony of that moment. Let's hope we can cut out the sloppy stuff this year.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

15 Jul 2015 13:02:02
I actually hope he stays put and proves to the fans he can replicate the form that made him a starter a few years back. He is one of our own from the academy, homegrown and is not on a significant salary compared to others I assume.

If he wants to leave for first team football regularly then fair enough but for example if you put Evans and Di Maria on the same pitch at Old Trafford I know which one would do his damnest and work his socks off for 90mins.

And no I am not comparing Evans and Di Maria's ability before I get executed lol.

Agree3 Disagree4

15 Jul 2015 12:15:19
Putting everything into reality, Di Maria wants to leave, events and dip in form has unsettled him. Sell him on for £45 million and go all out for Robert lewandowski.
Remember we have just signed Memphis who plays on the wing and the addition of Robert lewandowski creates a strong threat! And also a good fantasy football pick 😂

Believable3 Unbelievable1

15 Jul 2015 13:29:57
Despite how poorly Di Maria played he still managed to create goals. He may not be cut out for the EPL and, more importantly, he and his family may really want to be somewhere else.

If we can sell him for a 45-50m fine, but he just might show us something more this time around. And he is definitely capable of providing the X factor we so desperately need. He might also be the perfect player for European competition.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 11:30:18
I've just been watching clips of a certain Robert Lewandowski, and this may sound cheeky, but we really need to go after this guy AND not Cavani? He can literally score every type of goal known to man and football! Sell Di Maria and him in, please! Cheers, Ronnie.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

15 Jul 2015 12:10:20
I just find it odd that Bayern would a) want to sell him and b) let another talent join a major European rival. I also find it odd that the agent has come out with a price tag of £35m saying it as though it's a lot of money for Lewandowski for the top clubs because let's face it £35m for him he'd be snapped up. I just find it all a bit too easy, something else surely is afoot ie new contract, hope I'm wrong tho would love him here.

{Ed001's Note - Pep doesn't always pick him mate, he is not really first choice there.}

I found Lewandowski's agents comment interesting. It may mean nothing but seemed strange to put a price out there above which United would have to bid, it made me wonder if there was a release clause but would surprise me if he was so brazen to put it out there. He also mentioned a big wage packet which I am sure we would offer. For me, and I have said this for a while, Lewandowski is the best fit and if there is any chance of getting him we should try

First off I would like to congratulate the many posters who I have followed on here over the past years for continuing their good work and even those who just ramble on like mad men, you are all very entertaining. Secondly, I will be the first to put my hands up and say I am at crossroads with our beloved club at the moment. Last season for me was tough to watch and I can only hope that this season we cross the finish line that we have been running towards since Fergie called it a day.

Of course I am stoked with the signings we have made thus far and have faith that we have able, committed lads, that can help us reach the heights of old. I will admit I am not fully sold on the LVG philosophy after last season but I saw Mourinho dither in his first year returning to the bridge and of course who can forget Moyes's baptism of fire so I am by all means willing to play devils advocate and reserve judgement on the manager until next season.

Finally I would like to take this opportunity to make you all aware that I do have a strong opinion like most on here and I may disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. Just remember that sometimes different roads lead to the same castle.

Then again who knows I could be a reincarnated JMB or Britney Spears for all you lads know. Anyway not to be a party pooper by putting a pin in your pink little bubble but unfortunately you are erring my friend and your jigsaw pieces won't fit togehter here. Anyway I accept your apology.

jred - JMB basically picked up an old post and tried to play the 'I told you so' card on Ed002 who suggested Schweinsteiger wouldn't leave Bayern (which was probably true at the time). No idea if JMB tried to say anything else but he has been banned from the site now. I won't be shedding any tears for him personally.

Having read the page for a while now Rosie I admit that reading JMB's posts were sometimes borderline lunacy but I thought he was a decent poster and brought a lot to the site like many others. I am not defending him here (I already have inspector Betty on my back after one post!) but as a regular reader I enjoyed the banter between all the regulars, even the menacing Kloot. Then again for all we know JMB could have been sending abuse day in day out to the editors and if that was the case then a ban is fair in my book.

Haha, I have a little conspiracy I thought of.
Say if ADM does move to PSG and we all know he's always had his heart set on joining them. I'm thinking maybe PSG couldn't go for him last summer due to FFP. That the two may have spoken to discuss the situation and came up with solution that he joins United, doesn't play to his full potential (come on some of his decision making, passes and shooting were absolutely dreadful) and blame it on silly things like an attempted break in and not being able settling in to Manchester. He made no effort in his english classes where Rojo made a comment that all they do is laugh and joke around during classes and people were saying his english has gotten worse, how could your english get worse??? Fast forward one year, United think he's not built up to make it in the premier league and decide to sell him to PSG for a significantly less fee. PSG and Di Maria are smiling and Manchester United are left scratching their heads. But if he stays I guess I'll look like a fool;)

Wanted some opinions on here.

Firstly, do you expect to see Di Maria leave? I actually do, but I don't want him to.

And secondly, who replaces him? We need a replacement because I don't think Young should be a starting winger week in week out. Januzaj and Mata are better through the middle also.

Could we perhaps see a huge bid for Reus? Griezmann maybe?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Di Maria couldn't get a game at the end of last season and we have signed a player who plays in his position. Young was probably our best player for the last 6 months of last season so not sure why he isn't a starter, if he was called Ashlinho people would be raving about him. In my opinion if Di Maria goes we have already replaced him with Depay and we could spend them funds on a world class centre half and striker.

Agree1 Disagree4

15 Jul 2015 11:16:35
Fresh, all the players you have mentioned play predominantly on the left whereas ADM played more on the right at Real. We have Depay and Young for the left, I would assume it will be a right sided attacker we are after to replace ADM.

I can still see Mata being sold even if ADM goes, I think we could see a goal scoring right winger and maybe a striker coming in Still.

Januzaj may be given the right attacker role though, I guess we won't find out for sure until the window shuts.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 11:21:38
I agree with GDS2

Agree0 Disagree1

15 Jul 2015 11:26:26
DS2, the problem with Young is he is so one dimensional it's not even funny. When he is out of action for a year, and everybody forgets how he plays, then he comes in and for the first 5-10 matches he's good.

Then, oposition players remember all he does is cut back and cross. Then he becomes a weak point IMO. Ashley Young, or Ashlinho should not be a mainstay of any United team.

Agree3 Disagree3

15 Jul 2015 11:32:29
I posted up above GDS about the possibility of replacing Di Maria but I take that back and agree Depay could already be the main to fill the void should ADM leave.

Concentrate then on getting a quality striker, more than likely a striker that plays across the line. I'd love Benzema or Lewandowski as I have previously stated but I believe it could be Cavani as he gives us that option of playing either right or left.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 11:33:14
I believe Di Maria will leave, if we can get a decent offer, too many rumors he wants to go back to Real etc.

Yeah we both rate Griezmann very highly, I remember us both commenting on how he took Barca's defence apart twice 2 years ago. He's great on the wing and scored 23 goals that season. I just don't see him moving.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 11:34:05
I too feel Di Maria may shun the opportunity to prove himself at Old Trafford if the Parisians come calling. The thing is if you look objectively at how he has done and how he has conducted himself since moving from Madrid it makes you wonder how much he really wants to taste success at United.

Of course his price tag wasn't his choice but when you look at the players who have moved for that figure either recently or a decade ago (Zidanes and Figos etc) how many had such an unsuccessful debut season? A little Welshman moved to the biggest club in world with the biggest fee ever on his head, he didn't speak the language and had no national comrades in his locker room and he flew out of the traps.

The point I am trying to make is there are those players who are determined to be the best they can be with an iron edged mentality and then there are those who will turn up and hope to make the best of their situation.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 11:47:06
With regards to the who should replace him, I would go for Domenico Berardi, 20 years old has scored 15 league goals plus over two consecutive seasons and his all round play is increasing year on year as shown by his substantially increased defensive work, passing stats and assists (10 in the league). With Depay and Berardi we would have two 15+ goal wingers who can assist, the are both extremely quick and excellent dribblers of the ball, it would make us a threat down both flanks streaching teams creating more space for the striker (I think we need a new one). Also Berardi is left footed whereas Depay is right footed so you have a very balanced attack.

Just my thoughts

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 13:01:46
AGREE REWZ
but you must have a proven striker if you play wingers surely?
Would be good to watch as well.
Regarding Di Maria;personally wouldn't wait another year IF he shows any signs of wanting to be away. His value can only drop (it already has apparently) and another year on his wages wouldn't be good business financially if he doesn't perform consistently like he is capable of. Sell not swap and go for Kane; he can learn off rooney whilst he can play across the front, on the left or inside forward position and would/could give us 10 years of valued service imo.

Cookman, this is where the Rooney debate pops up again. I am on the side of the fence that would sell him, only because he's the right age to sell and get a great fee and there are player out there who kick the ball into the back of the net more often. the problem with selling him is, he's English, our most marketable player, club captain and a global icon. selling Rooney would be an extremely difficult proposition for the club and a big financial risk.

If LVG can push out his pal RVP he may have the bottle to sell Rooney. I'm sure had SAF stayed on for a couple more seasons Rooney wouldn't be here.

I think for the above reasons the club would like Kane as he's young, English and has a lot of momentum in the press here and abroad giving the marketing machine something to work with.

15 Jul 2015 10:05:05
@Ed001

Just saw your and Ed002's reply on Lewandowski and him being available at the right price on the Arsenal page.

We know that we were very interested in Sir Alex's last season at the club.

1. I wonder what your opinion is on whether there is still interest from us and do you think Bayern's comments on "no other Bayern player would move to United this window" comments with us already having bought Schweinsteiger would be a stumbling block for any potential move? Or will it just come down to a team meeting the asking price and his personal terms (which I am sure we would since we are desperate for a striker and have got huge wages off the books)?

I would much rather spend big on him than Cavani and do think that getting him this season and Bale next year would be the long term solution up front.

2. What do you make of United's transfers so far?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - 1. I am sure there is still interest from United, I am not convinced by those comments from Bayern personally. I think they were more about placating fans following the sale of a legend. Even though Pep no longer wanted him around, he was still a legend to the fans and so they had to play it carefully. If United were the team making the best offer, then I could not imagine them turning it down.
I would not hold out much hope of Bale right now, it is more likely to be Benzema leaving as Rafa wants to build around Bale, James Rodriguez and Ronaldo as his attacking trio. From what he has said, Benzema is possible surplus there now.}

15 Jul 2015 10:57:58
I'd take any from Cavani, Lewandowski or Benzema - but Lewandowski would be my number 1 ultimate choice - he's fantastic. I think £40 million or so would do it and we are well capable of that. He is an LVG striker - great link up play, good in the air, great on the ball and a fantastic shot on him. If he is to leave at any point it would be terrible to not go for him.

On the Cavani front. I read an argument from a journalist that said he wouldn't be allowed to leave as Zlatan will leave at the end of his contract next summer thereby leaving the number 9 position for Cavani to step in to. Perhaps they want Di Maria for the left, Lucas for the right and Cavani through the middle next season but will sign Di Maria now.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I forgot to answer no 2! Doh. I meant to say I am very impressed with the transfer so far, I think Schweinsteiger is a very good short term signing, whether his legs are gone or not. His experience and leadership is a vital piece that was sorely missing last season for United. Schneiderlin is one I feel Arsenal will rue missing out on in time, he is a top class player, who will make a real difference. Plus he is a very different player from Herrera, so should combine well with him. Darmian I do not know a lot about, other than that he was probably the most likely signing Chelsea would have made if Ivanovic had left, so that suggests he is a good player. There is still a need for a forward and centre backs, but you can't buy everyone!}

15 Jul 2015 11:02:31
Thanks for the reply Ed001. I meant going for Bale as the only target next summer, not this one. Would love Lewandowski here.

Seems you forgot to reply to the what do you think of our transfers so far. You guys have done some decent business yourselves (as long as you move some on). For the first time in years United and LFC seem to be buying players they actually need, I still can't believe it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - sorry about the missed response to the second question first time. I got distracted by a sudden flood of emails with avatars and profile pics to check through and forgot when I came back to it.

I am not convinced Liverpool really are buying players they actually need, as the main need was a top class keeper and they brought in a back up Championship (just) level keeper. I really rate Firmino and wanted us to buy him last season instead of Lallana, but now the club has Lallana, there is little real need for Firmino. The other real need is still a left back, but the club brought in Clyne, a right back. There is still no long term plan at Liverpool, it is exasperating, to be polite.}

15 Jul 2015 11:56:04
Ed 001 any idea which strikers we are actually looking at? Thank u :)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - other than Lewandowski? Vietto is one, Castillo of Brugge is another (Chileans are very much in vogue I notice!), Sakho of West Ham, I don't know regarding Cavani or not sorry, Lacazette and Benzia of Lyon, Batshuayi of Marseille (who I really like what I have seen from so far, could be a real class player of the future if he can achieve his potential), Bas Dost of Wolfsburg, Son of Leverkusen (I would be gutted if you got him, he is the best Asian player of his generation, maybe of all time), Morata, Icardi, oh and nearly forgot Kane. I am sure there are more, but I can't think of them off the top of my head, even going through squad listings to remind myself is not helping.}

15 Jul 2015 12:03:44
@Ed001

I still think you have done decent business considering you are not in the UCL.

Re "we can't buy everyone", are you sure? ;) With the way we are going this summer Ed Woodward and Van Gaal seem determined on fixing all issues once and for all. I'm also impressed by how we have managed to shift out some big wage earners like RVP, Falcao and Nani (Hernandez will be next).

I expect a center back and a striker to arrive and depending on what happens with Di Maria and De Gea(and Ramos) those positions may be looked at as well. I suspect Di Maria might be sold to fund a move for a striker, perhaps even Mata and certainly Evans. Journalists have been briefed about this big " churning" of players since January it seems.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I do expect one centre back to arrive, but personally I feel you need two, Smalling has improved, but he is still nowhere near good enough.}

He wasn't really our worst defender in the last couple of years. There are other players in the squad thay played worse then Evans in the last few years.

In my view , Evans Smalling and Jones are all capable defenders who would make a fairly decent partner for a top class CB. However , in the absence of that top class CB , none of them have the leadership or organisational skill to be the "main man".
If we are to challenge for titles again , at least one but ideally two top class CB's are needed.
A lot of people seem to have forgotten about Rojo too. He would be my pick to play alongside any new addition , if we do make one.

Agree3 Disagree2

15 Jul 2015 09:56:08
Couldn't agree more Betty. All good 2nd choice or back up's, between them you could probably get 40 full games a season (injury gang), so you can't rely on them and they all need to be playing regularly to be decent imo.

These kind of posts piss me off. Evans hasn't been in great from but to post 'I hope we offload him' is cheap. Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 11:17:03
I tend to agree with both arguments here, it would be nice to have the players that have come up thru the ranks to do well and for our young signings like Smalls and Jones to gel, but injuries have disrupted all 3 of their playing time over a course of a couple of years. So I understand AJH thinking it's not nice to just cast them out but also unfortunately the here and now success of the modern game means we do need better right now and can't wait for talent to develop. Sad state of affairs really.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 11:21:29
No point in slagging Evans off, but no point in keeping him anyway.

It is in my nature to fear the worst, so this is going against the grain. Maybe I am being overly optimistic in the current set of CBs, but between Jones, Smalling, and Rojo, behind the Schfolks and with real full backs in Shaw and Darmian, I just have a feeling that we are going to see a much better performance. Last year was exceptional. The loss of Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra, a new coach with new methods and a host of injuries, and yet we still only conceded 1 more goal than Arsenal. I expect a much more settled situation this time around, starting out the season with far better tactical awareness. The English players in particular have had a relatively quiet summer which should be an advantage.

This is not to say we would not benefit from another top CB, just that we don't need to panic if we don't get one. It may go against the general wisdom both amongst supporters on this site and in the press in general, but the stats simply don't support the negativity surrounding our current defenders. (Yes, I know, De Gea saved us)

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 12:05:27
I put this question to you all and take away the fact evans has been a player for us so would never want bad for him good luck to him in the rest of his career that goes without saying but let's say evans played for a different club and had the performances he's had throughout his career and we bought him this window, this page would be absolute CHAOS

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 13:24:51
WhoAteallDepays. I totally agree. If Evans played for another club and put in the performances he has done for the past two seasons, then we will not be looking at buying him.
The fact he came through the ranks is great but that should not be the reason he stays and plays.
I didn't slag him off, I just said he was the worst performing defender and I stand by that. He is not United quality, simple as that. If we sign Otimendi and Ramos for the sake of argument, do we ever see Evans getting a game ahead of those two and Rojo, Smalling and Jones?

monkey,

I would imagine he will get some game time on the tour so that will be the best place to see him, the best way to describe him is that he is a bit like Michael Carrick but a lot younger obviously and with a bit more of an eye for a goal, he trained with the first team a fair bit last season and looked good when he played for the under 21s.

I have only seen a few clips of him so difficult to make a fair judgement. but I got the feeling he had similar traits and was being moulded for the Carrick role. And now with the extra experience in our Sch-midfield (not talking about you, poster formally-known-as-Nomidfield) taking him under their wing, he could potentially be quite an exciting prospect.

Anybody think that if another striker is signed the Rooney might have the captaincy taken away from him? Taken away his automatic place in the team. LvG never said Rooney had the rights, he said his captain is the only person who gets more rights to start. Just a thought. Do you think there is a chance?

Won't cause offence by saying that i disagree with you but it is difficult to see an alternative to rooney. Given the depth of our squad no one is likely to start every game( maybe de gea if he stays) but given rooneys versatility he is likely to start more than most. BS might possibly be a better captain/leader but again it is unlikely that he will be starting every game although i would be happy if he was made vice captain. After all if he can captain germany he can captain us

I hope so, and it should happen. However it won't imo.

I know it's not ideal to knock one of your key players nose's out of joint by taking away captaincy. But if he is professional enough to be named captain of club and country he should be professional enough to accept that there is a person more suited to captain in the central part of the pitch, with more experience and he can focus himself on scoring goals.

We should stop pandering to Rooney - his performances suffer once he gets what he wants.

The way the bayern players talk about bs says to me he would be the ideal captain in any team

Just because PSG are interested in signing ADM, it does not mean that we are interested in signing one of their players. This Cavani rumours is total BS IMO. Better use that money for defence, Attack can wait a season

Cavani was played out wide for the entire season last term, and he is not as bad as everyone thinks. But a straight swap is very rare these days and i don't value Cavani at anywhere near 50 mil mark.

In the season we wait to bolster our attack we will win nothing because we wouldn't have enough threat to score goals. We need a top forward if we have any ambition to win anything. Rooney is not the answer alone

In all fairness it's no secret we have been interested in Cavani in the past, it's not unrealistic to suggest we are still interested. Seems when clubs are interested in players of ours that we aren't actively looking to sell we are only willing to discuss it if the other team puts one of there assets on the table. We don't exactly need the money but we do need the players.

What do you think about this Casillas situation.
For me, even though he is not the same player he was, he is a Real Madrid legend. The way Madrid handled his departure is truly heart breaking. Fans booing him, perez forcing him to move, What a shameful club Madrid has been. I would hate if any of our player joined them.

{Ed001's Note - you must remember he has been at the heart of all the player power problems at the club for many years now. Casillas should have been booted by them years ago for being a crap keeper, but the fans loved him so he stayed and got away with forcing out manager after manager.}

Ed
That would be mourinho you would be talking about?
And ancelloti was pushed out by the players or the president?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Mourinho is not the only one mate, that was the last one. The players wanted to keep Ancelotti.}

I recall reading a while ago about the Spanish cored clique problem in the Real dressing room, that Mourinho wanted to sort out, one was Casillas and interestingly the other was said to be Ramos. One has gone and was this Ramos episode just a shot across the bows by Perez to get Benitez control of the dressing room?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Ramos is certainly the other main protagonist, but it was more the other way round, Ramos instigating more problems through his brother, who happens to be his agent. Perez has been trying to chip away at their power for years, but has to be careful as he could easily be voted out.}

Thank you Ed. Perez should have done it a long time ago. I do speculate whether he wants rid of Ramos in those circumstances

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am sure he would love to, if the club had strength in depth in defence and he wasn't already upsetting the fans by moving Casillas out.}

I don't forsee Benitez surviving it there with the way Barca is pulling there acts together in the signing of good legs to cover up weak areas.

Loving the transfer window so far and can't wait for the new season to kick off.
Had to comment about rooney bein up there as an out n out striker I'm absolutely sure he'l get 20+ if not 30+ this season,he has to with herera Mata depay n hopefully an inform adm supplying him.
No1 likes him in midfield neither do I so let the beautiful midfield we are puttin together do what they do best and rooney al bang em in hopefully.
