Good night for me tonight,

Having only ever made the several hundred mile round trip to OT to watch my beloved United in the past, next season I'll have the pleasure of travelling around 3 miles to the Cardiff City Stadium to watch them. Slightly chuffed :)

Just like to say congratulations to Cardiff! The South Wales derby in the EPL will be pretty mental too, one to look out for.

I would consider crossing the bridge to see United myself, but by the time next season starts i'll no longer be in Bristol but in Newcastle. Still quicker to get to Manchester from the north east rather than the south west. Lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

You're from Cardiff HoneyBadger are you mate?

ALDUtd

Agree0 Disagree0

Aldutd,

How did you work that out from what gav said? Is it the part when he said he lives 3 miles from the Cardiff city stadium?

Agree0 Disagree0

Who will you support as you say you have been following Cardiff for 7 years

Agree0 Disagree0

GDS

There is a difference between being from Cardiff and living in Cardiff ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Anon,

Fair point, I was being a smart arse!

Agree0 Disagree0

As am I GDS, as am I.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol, yes I live in Cardiff but was born 70 miles away in deepest West Wales - moved here at 18 yrs old in search of the meaning of life!

Haha, was waiting for that KLOOT. You are so predictable :)

I follow Cardiff as I do all the Welsh sides, including Swansea, Wrexham and Newport County. I'm proud of my country even if you are not.

So yes I will continue to support United, whilst I continue to follow all the Welsh clubs. If Cardiff ever win the EPL I may swap teams though, obviously ;)

HBadger

Agree0 Disagree0

GDS, is there any need for the sarcasm? Just nice to hear some of the regular posters on this site are from God's Country like myself

ALDUtd

Agree0 Disagree0

Gods country? I thought you were from Wales ALD? :s

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice1 ALDUtd, we don't know how lucky we are supporting United and living in Wales :)

If KLOOT was Welsh he wouldn't be half as grumpy I guarantee it!

HBadger

Agree0 Disagree0

ALD,

Apologies mate was my attempt at a bit of light hearted sarcastic banter, which is what this site is meant to be. Sorry if I offended you.

Good to know we have fans all over the country.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lucky HBadger three miles from a stadium I have to cross the water and very rarely ever do that as its very dear I tell you

Agree0 Disagree0

Haven't seen Unite for over a year, the combined cost of travelling to Manchester and the ticket is too much for me at the moment.

Will have to get tickets for the game in Cardiff, supported United of course.

Can't wait for the Wales derby either!

Newport County vs Wrexham in the BlueSqaure, what a cracker! ;)

I know in recent years we've kept a close eye on Ross Barkley. I know that one of Everton's physio's was quizzed by a United scout 3 or 4 years ago when we had an interest in Rodwell. Does any of the Eds, Sydney! Or anyone else know whether he's a likely target in the summer?

Adz {Ed004's Note - Possibly}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

United were interested in January 2012 according to Kloot. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if SAF wanted him. He likes young English players.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

I've not seen much of him for some odd reason (I do watch Everton every now and again) - can anyone tell me is he more of an attacking mid or somone who creates from deep? Is he best suited to playing in the 2 or the 3 in a 4231?

Thanks, {Ed004's Note - 3 imo, personally he is not what we need}

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought he had a good game and was unlucky not to score with his shot

dio

Agree0 Disagree0

That's a shame Ed004, was hoping he was more of a Wilshere type, able to play next to Carrick/Strootman. Nevermind!

Agree0 Disagree0

He plays a similar role to Powell. I think Barkley is the better passer of the two and is more physical but Powell has the better vision and a more clinical finisher. So Powell is the more creative and Barkley better defensively by keeping the ball and being physically stronger. In an ideal world it would be good to have both but seeing as we currently have Rooney Giggs and Kagawa who would play that position ahead of him as well as Powell obviously, it would be foolish to sign him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy

I can't say who is better because I haven't seen much of powell or barkley.
Seriously though stop being biased barkley was starting against Arsenal away. We probably won, t be seeeing powell starting away against a big team for 3/4 years. So stop saying that united player or this united player is better than x or why when you have no proof!
At the moment unbiasedly barkleys the better player! Defensive? the guy has set up many chances tonight and had great vision and skill to pick those passes. Powell reminds me of a young gerrard while barkley is a more modern attacking midfielder.

Sulei

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Apr 2013 22:57:53
could be a signing for 2014 when giggs goes but would we need him by then with powell and the other young lads coming through.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Apr 2013 23:51:21
Sulei, I have watch Barkley on his loan at Leeds and his games for Everton, I watch Powell play for Crewe and for our under 21's and the couple of times he's played in our first team. So I would say that i'm quite well placed to judge him, or at least maybe more so than you are as you say yourself you haven't seen much of either of them.

I'm not being bias towards the United player, at no point did I say Powell was the better player overall. I said what each players strengths are. From what i've seen Powell is the better player going forward, and yes Barkley is and attacking player but he isn't as much a threat going forward as Powell imo. But he is much better at the more defensive side of the game, and his ball retention and passing is better. Both are good young players and both have a good chance of making it at the top of the game.

As for the arguement that Barkley must be better as he's playing against Arsenal away. What a stupid thing to say. One plays for a good but possibly over achieving midtable to top half team and the other is playing for the champions elect the three times european champions, the team that has won the most FA cups in history. Do you think for one second if Everton had Rooney Kagawa and Giggs in their first team that Barkley would have started tonight? We have the largest and strongest squad in the league and everton struggle to fill their 25 man squad. If Powell was at Everton I would expect him to have played in at least as many games as Barkley maybe even more.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sulei,

What a silly post, I am glad shappy pointed out how stupid saying Barkley playing for Everton at arsenal doesn't mean he is better than Powell because he doesn't get in for united. Does that mean anichebe is better than Hernandez?

Shappy never even said Powell was the better player, he gave a fair opinionated view of the 2 players based on what he has seen of them. You said yourself you haven't seen much of either, you get a comment from somebody who has and complain because you don't agree with his opinion.

Having seen a reasonable amount of both I would have to say Powell has the most potential and hopefully won't be wasted at united. I would hope he will get a few more chances next season or a premier league loan if need be. Barkley is a good player as well, probably similar to Powell, but as we already have Powell, as shappy says, it would seem a bit pointless signing Barkley when there are other areas we need to improve.

Can I just say, all this youth talk what will they do and are they good enough!

If they are that good they would be in our first team!

Man united to like to develop players but honestly just think who came in and played at a young age

Ronaldo, rooney, jones, rafael,
all that time ago giggs,

If they are going to make it they would be playing a role in the first team by time they 19-20-21

Chris the REDman

Agree0 Disagree0

Terrible post mate, a load of absolute bobbins. Sorry

TK-Red

Agree0 Disagree0

And then they'd end up burnt out injury prone wrecks lie Owen, Rodwell, Vaughan. Wilshire is showing signs of going the same way. Fabregas had injury issues at Arsenal. Too much football too young is not beenficial. Even Rooney is showing signs of damage from playing too young.

Agree0 Disagree0

Different players develop at different ages, you also have to factor in injuries etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why is it a silly post, we keep saying they will develop later and be ready in a few years, the reality is most of them don't make it in the squad and I agree if they are super talented, even at 18 they should be getting games. Rose tinted Glasses for half you lot I say.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think it is a silly post, if these players were to shine, then they would do it by the age of 19/20. Can you honestly say we have one or two players in there who are going to be definite first team players? I can't see anyone standing out, especially in midfield and attacking areas.
When you see the quality coming through at barca, then you realize that this is the standard we need to aim for.
Nomidfield

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolute rubbish Shahram. Perhaps you should look beyond United. Just because SAF doesn't play them at 18-19 doesn't mean they won't be good enough. If you want get get a decent 3-4 years from their career then by all means chuck them in but the manager will do what's best for their long term careers. Perhaps some of the youth set up won't make it at the club but the pressures of playing for one of the worlds biggest clubs can't be underestimated, unless you're saying that if you can't hack it at 18-19 then you never will? a lot of players are also still growing so chucking them in will lead to injury, just see Jack Rodwell and Jack Wilshere. Was RVP good enough for us at 19? No I doubt he was but I bet you would've liked him at the club at that age ready for when he was good enough? That is exactly what we are trying to do with some of the current set up.

TK-Red

Agree0 Disagree0

Special players make it. Pogba was a special player and certainly would have made a MU first team players. Ravel was a special player, but messed it up for himself with his attitude.

Adnan Januzaj, Mats Daehli, Ben Pearson & James Wilson are special players. Whether they make it is up to them, but they are in a great position to progress. All four have a good chance of making it here.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Nomidfield, then you clearly haven't watched the U21's or U18's. Too many people on this page are obsessed with age. Different players develop at different ages. That is a fact. If you do not think Powell (18) & Januzaj (17) have stood out in the U21's then you clearly haven't been watching.

James Wilson (17), Mats Daehli (18), Ben Pearson (18), Jack Barmby (18), Demetri Mitchell (16), Andreas Perreira (17), Rhain Davis (15) are all one's to watch over the next few years. The academy has improved tenfold since 2010 and United have upped the ante.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol Syd

"Ravel was a special player". He indeed was, one of the best to have come out of our youth. Considering you absolutely detest him, I will take that as a huge compliment. He did fook it up for himself. But I would genuinely want such a talent to eventually make it big somewhere.

Deeps.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not a sill post, it's the truth.
It doesn't matter about age, if you good enough you play in the first team and that's the bottom line.

Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

Deeps, I hear Wormwood Scrubs are looking for a forward.

I don't detest Ravel, I pity him. He had a great opportunity and he blew it.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Simmo, are you saying that because Powell (18) and Januzaj (17) are not good enough to play for United now, they never will be?

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd

The only real thing that makes me not feel so negatively about him is, even after his departure, he never talked sh!te about United ( Cue - Paul "United at his heart" Pogba). And if ever he gets the chance to come back, he would glady. And I always think special talents albeit a lil wayward should always make the most of what Gods given them. If he can, I will be happy. But yeah IMO Ravel is much more likeable than Pogba. Wormwood Scrubs can buy Carroll for a dollar and 35 cents!

Deeps.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd

I can't really comment on Januzaj because I haven't seen a lot of him and I know he's had injury problems and is still feeling his way back into first team action and fitness.
I think Nick Powell is miles away from breaking through Syd, again he needs time to settle into the club and he is only young and will improve. I do have high hopes for him, hopefully he will fulfill his potential.
I still think we are desperate for two class midfielders.

Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

Simmo, I agree, an attacking midfielder and a deeper midfielder would be great.

I have always said we shouldn't standstill in the transfer market. That's when other teams catch up or overtake.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Apr 2013 13:30:24
michael owen was a special player and broke in the liverpool team at an early age as he was certainly good enough. But he's now six weeks away from retirement due to an injury plagued career which stems from playing too much too soon. Look at rodwell and wilshire. I'd rather manage players properly and make sure they develop properly. We all know we need two world class midfielders so how is chucking in kids like powell or januzaj helping that? If they had a mare imagine the reaction on here.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tk Red

How is that rubbish, as you state you have to be of a certain standard to get into a united squad. Certain players/special as sydney calls them have the tools even at 18 or 19 to play in the first team even on a very limited basis and the reality is most of these young guys will not make it.

You seem to confuse ability to play with playing someone too many games that it dwarfs their development. Giggsy, Scholes, Beckham, Neville's were all good enough to play at a very young age.

Your theory of trying to manage the current set up does not wash because if you are 20 year old footballer with special talent, you want first team action and the money and fame that goes with it.

And he's never managed in the prem much less europe. And I think a relegation battle next season won't do him any favours. What is it with people keep putting forward people with no chance. We need someone with experience of running a massive club, of managing big ego's, of spending big money on transfers, of winning trophies, competing for league titles, who can handle the pressure of united and succeeding fergie. Does any of that sound like someone who's entire manager career has been in the championship? Forget your Moyes, Martinez and other alsoran's we need a proven top class manager. We're United, we're ambitious, we have expectations. Second or third class managers won't deliver. We don't want a repeat of the seventies.

Big game tonight, Redbird. Enjoy!

Having lived in Cardiff for almost 10 years and followed them since then - I'm a big admirer of Malky. I think he may well end up in a big job, but not yet and not that soon.

He needs lots more experience and before even being ready to be considered for The Big Job :)

Also, I think SAF helps out a lot of young Scottish managers, with advidce etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why can't Martinez do the job? I guess most managers of big clubs would have managed small clubs at some point and got the opportunity.

Anyway I believe the club would make the right choice whoever it maybe.

I've just seen some reports linking United with Angelo Ogbonna (Torino) and Ded (Vasco the Gama). Both are tall CB's and both are young, strong, and incredibly fast considering their position.

Ed, with Vidic & Ferdinand getting older, who would be your ideal signing in that department (both out of the two above, and in general- Hummels?) or do you think Evans & Smalling (arguably Jones too, but I see his best position as a holding midfielder) are good enough to start every game for United next season?

jpem27 {Ed004's Note - Probably Hummels}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

16 Apr 2013 17:02:45
I don't see us signing a defender this summer unless BOTH Rio and Vidic leave. I think Rio will do another season after which he'll leave or retire with Micheal Keane taking his place with Vidic staying for another two seasons by which time we'll have a 27yo Evans, a 25yo Smalling, a 23yo Jones and 22yo Keane with a 21yo Blackett coming through. Which should be more than enough. If Keane or Blackett fail to make the grade then expect someone to come in. But we are very well stocked in young talented CB's atm.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Apr 2013 18:23:47
Last night there was talk of dede going to either cruzeiro or corinthians. So it won't be him. I think rio will stay another season and vidic two seasons. Smalling will replace rio and keane will step up into the squad when rio goes. I think we'll sign someone when vidic goes unless jones can get a good run at centre back rather than centre half.

Agree0 Disagree0

Another young CB who doesn't get the credit he deserves is Tom Thorpe. I like him as a CB, very cool head on the ball and seems to read the game well. Can also play CM.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with Shappy on this one.

Evans has developed nicely and Jones & Smalling look mature and will be ready for regular starts in the not too distant future. Keeping Rio for 1 season and Vidic for 2+ is exactly what our young CB's need IMO. Buying a ready made CB now is more likely to block their progress.

Agree0 Disagree0

Varrane is the Ideal signing but we have zero chance of getting him. I wish we had forked out a couple of million over Madrid's bid and could have had hime for around 13 million.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

Shahram, it had nothing to do with offering Lens more cash, Varane chose Real Madrid over us. Zidane done his usual liaison with players for RM. He is doing a similar thing on Bale now.

Guys do you think januzaj will be in and around the first team next year getting games in the cups and champions league dead rubber games or do you expect a loan? I think a loan deal would be more beneficial for him than being in the under 21's each week. Your thoughts?

I think he'll go the perscribed route into the first team. He'll have a championship loan followed by a Prem loan then onto the edges of the first team for the 2015/16 season most likely. that's the way we try and structure the youths education anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not yet, I think it's a too early for him. I expect to see him have another full season with our Under 21's/Reserves, then a season on loan before we see him in our first team squad. Perhaps he will stay with us until January then be given a loan if he progresses well but SAF won't want to rush the lad.

It's been a good while since we have had a Wayne Rooney debate on here :)

Some people think he'll stay, some think he'll leave, some (one) thinks Rooney and his agent are up to old tricks again to gain another big contract.

I genuinely don't know what will happen to the lad, personally I hope he stays but regarding his contract, I think we are in a much stronger position to negotiate this time and if he and his agent do try and play games, this time Rooney will be the loser.

We have RVP, Welbeck, Hernandez and potentially can strengthen with Lewandowski or even Falcao whereas unfortunately last time Rooney had us over a barrell as he was our top boy but RVP coming in, Hernandez having another good season and Welbeck stepping up to be a regular squad member, would losing Rooney this time be as much of a disaster? I don't think it will be.

I do hope he stays and do hope he signs a contract without any big dramas because despite what people think of Wayne Rooney as an indvidual, he still brings a lot to club and country but if he decides to play games, this time round I believe SAF will ship him out and that really would be the end of Rooney because I think Rooney needs SAF and United more then SAF and United need him now.

This is the vital summer in Rooney's career. The problem with players who tend to burst onto the scene at a very young age such as Ronney at 16. Tend to have shorter careers, they either have issues with injury or they burn out.

If you look at two example of players who burst onto the scene at a very young age.

First you have Ryan Giggs who was flying up and down the wing at 17yo for us. He has managed to play well into his thirties and will play for us at forty next season. But if you look at his career he has streered clear of major injuries, has dedicated himself to football with strict diets and exercising and taking up yoga. He has also had to change his playing position and role in the team to fit with his decining body.

Then you look at Micheal Owen who was a regular at 17. He has called time on his career at the age of 32, and in fairness hasn't played a consistant role for a team in 4/5 years due to injuries. He has been unable to adapt to a different role and has had several major injuries. Plus he maybe hasn't been as dedicated to football as he could have been as he has had interests off the field which must have been a distraction.

So two very differant examples but both have similarites to Rooney.

Rooney has had some major injuries like Owen, plus he has many off field distractions. He doesn't dedicate himself like Giggs with strict diets or exercise. But he has more abilities than Owen which means he could potentially adapt his role in the team to a different position like Giggs.

So Rooneys future is in his own hands. If he is to have a long term future in football I think its obvious what he needs to do. He needs to concentrate on his football, he needs to keep himself in shape with exercise and proper dieting. The injuries he has had have had an effect on his body and have robbed him of his explosiveness that used to strike fear into defenders. So he needs to find a new role alittle deeper, which means he'll have to learn to consentrate more and learn the new skills needed to play deeper. This means more time spent on the training pitch and less on his other off field ventures.

The big question is do we think Wayne will do what is nessisary to prolong his career and revive his form. If yes then we should give him another contract, if no then it's time to sell him as he will only be of use for another couple of seasons at the top after which he will start to decline at a frightening pace.

Agree0 Disagree0

Giggs had injury problems for years

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Apr 2013 17:52:16
Giggs had hamstring problems like Owen due to his pace. Quick players are renown for such issues. I said major injuries such as broken bones or knee or ankle ligament injuries. Rooney has had serious knee and ankle ligament injuries plus broken bones. These are major injuries, and much harder to over come. All Giggs injuries we muscle related thus his yoga has sorted that out.

Agree0 Disagree0

This is why I think Rooney needs SAF and United more then we need him now Shappy. If he pushes SAF and SAF sells him, who ever buys him will get all they can out of him and he'll burn out and could be done by 31. SAF has always managed players correctly regardless of their reputation.

Agree0 Disagree0

Owen himself has said he was never the same payer after pulling his hamstring at 19, I would say 95% of his injuries were muscular.
Yoga has helped giggs as did changing his car his bed and 90 minute warm down sessions but the main thing has been his ability to change his game.
Watching highs as a winger I would never of guessed he could play cm, just goes to show you never can tell

Agree0 Disagree0

If rooney really want's to dedicate himself for a long term future he may practice passing to play in midfield it's quiet possible him carrick and cleverly or a new singing could play in a midfield three with rooney furthest forward
like a 4-3-1-2 kagawa is playing behind the front two or in better terms 4-2-2-2

I know he needs United more than we need him. But has he burned his bridges. Sir Alex may forgive but he never forgets. Rooney made a fool of him over his last contract talks. Then he showed up overweight at the start of the season. Sir Alex has signed RvP who scores the goals that we've relied on from Rooney and Kagawa can replace the link up play Rooney offers. If we sold Rooney and signed Lewandowski we would make money on those transfers, and we would cut our wage bill and replace Rooney with a younger player who's starting to peak rather than someone who's maybe past his best.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy, I agree 100% with your views. I think the club will ask him to take big wage cut and earn it through performance incentives. It will be interesting to see how it all goes down. SAF is a master manipulator and there is a lot more to all of this than we are privy to.

I would not be surprised if they force him to go by offering an extension that is well below what he is on and in the public the club can always say we tried to extend him but could not agree and had no choice but to sell:)

But we are not PSG, Chelsea or City. Getting Falcao would mean less improvements elsewhere in the team. Buying Lewandowski for £15m or so means there is still cash for a Goetze too (example). So then it would be Falcao or Lew & Goetze. For that reason most would want the latter, but if it's just a matter of picking a striker no matter what the price is, then Falcao is who 99% would choose.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - I thought Falcao signed for Manchester United last week Syd? Wasn't it on the internet or whatever you call it?}

Falcao - I haven't seen much of both to be honest but the few times a have seen Falcao I have said 'Wow' can't believe he is still with A. Madrid no disrespect intended.

So in short falcao

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred

Clearly Falcao is leaps and bounds ahead of Lewandowski and pretty much any natural target man on the planet including RVP when it comes to putting the ball into the back of the net. He still has years at his peak and does not rely on pace so age wouldn't matter in years to come.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sure, but then if you ask the next question, who would you prefer for wing and midfield? Rodriguez & Eriksen or Ince & Matic. 100% would want Rodriguez & Eriksen, but sadly Falcao has eaten up all of the funds so Ince & Matic will have to do.

Personally i'd prefer Lewandowski, he has the potential to be a better all round forward than Falcao. People keep saying we should get rid of Hernandez or Welbeck as they either don't have a good enough all round game or they aren't good enough infront of goal. Falcao is the best finisher in world football, so he's more similar (although much better) to Hernandez. Well Lewandowski has the ability of Welbeck and the finishing of Hernandez. Surely then its better to get a player who offers more than what we have rather than a player who just offers an upgrade to what we have.

Plus Falcao will cost 50m compared to the 20m Lewandowski would cost, plus his wages will be much higher, and Lewandowski would offer maybe 8 years of service at the highest level where as Falcao will offer maybe 5. So Lewandowski is the better investment money wise, longivity wise and all round footballing wise. Abit of a no brainer as long as you don't get seduced by the media love in for Falcao.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred if we all stick to short posts to answer the OPs then this page would get very boring, very quickly. There's nothing wrong with putting a bit more detail into a post, a touch more of an explanation. I know you of all people enjoy a mammoth post from time to time mate ;)

On the OP, I actually think that I would prefer watching Lewandowski next season. Falcao is a fantastic striker but I think Lewandowski's link up play would help us play the kind of football we all want to see next season and I would rather have a team that plays attractive football than one with a "big name" up front. As Sydney says getting Falcao is all well and good but it means nothing if we play some absolute guff and starve him of support as we have with RVP in the latter part of this season.

I would have to disagree to be honest, my OP is just a bit of fun as I want to make this clear I think there is ZERO chance of us signing falcao
But as I said forgetting money etc the football fan in side of me we would rather watch falcao in a United shirt next season than lewandowski.

Also falcao imo would improve our first 11 more than lewandowski as a football fan I want to see the very best players in the world and that's why I would go for falcao

Just to make it clear I do not think there is any chance of us signing falcao

No because RvP was proven in the Prem which is what we need. Falcao has proven that he can be amazing in a less physical league I doubt the Prem would be an issue for him but he may take longer to adapt than Lewandowski who having played in the more physical Bundesliga would maybe take less time to adapt.

If were talking total fantasy then why stop at Falcao, we might as well get Ronaldo and Messi while were at it. Maybe Schwiensteiger and Vidal could join as well as Hummels and Alex Sandro then we could call ourselves the english galacticos.

For many reasons I would prefer Lewandowski, he would offer our team much more than Falcao who is a great goalscorer but as some poster has pointed out 12 of his 24 goals this season have come from the penalty spot than 5 of the remaining 12 came in one game that only leaves 7 goals scored in all his other games from open play, he has also chipped in with one assist which shows he doesn't bring other players into play. Compare that to Lewandowski who has 30 goals ( that's 6 more than Falcao) he also has 7 assist and is the better team player.

So for me Falcao is just a big name player to put the ball in the net where as Lewandowski offer much more to the team play of a team meaning we get to watch great attacking football.

Did you know that Falcao has score 27 goals from 124 shot and Lewandowski has score 30 goals from 128 shots which means on average Lewandowski scores once in every 4. 2 shots and Falcao once in every 4. 5 shots making Lewandowski the slightly more clinical finisher. Lewandowski also completes 1. 8 dribbles a game compared to Falcao's 1 showing Lewandowski the more direct player. Lewandowski also has 7 assist and makes 1. 3 key passes a game compared to Falcao's 1 assist and 1 key pass a game which shows that Lewandowski is the better team player and involves his team mates more in the game. In fact the only stat in which Falcao out performs Lewandowski is pass completion with 78. 7 compared to Lewandowski's 71. 5 but this can be explained by the fact that Lewandowski makes more passes on average per game and that his passes more forward compared to Falcao making the safe pass more often. Plus Lewandowski has played 7 games more than Falcao so far this season so keeping his averages up over a longer period shows him to be the more consistant player. So Lewandowski has been the better player over the course of the season, the facts don't lie. This is why I would prefer him over Falcao, I prefer substance over a big name signing.

Less physical league, he done ok playing for river plate and that's quite a physical league I would put it up there with the EPL
Also your numbers are wrong pal.
Falcao has scored 24 goals in the league 30 over all, lewandowski has scored 22 in the league 30 in total so the same amount although lew has played 41 games compared to falcao 34

The best way to judge a player is by watching them all them stats mean nothing really as the players play in different teams with different styles.
I would love to see how many goals falcao would score in that dourtman team with reus gotze etc

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Jred here. Falcao is an Aguero type striker which by the way I rate as the best in the pl when healthy.

Dortmund play a complete different style and hence the assists and goals, where AM play very different and on many occasions Falcao is upfront on his own doing a lot of dirty work and has several defenders draped all over him.

Falcao in a dortmund team could score 45 to 50 goals and I am not kidding. I am not big into stats as they are deceiving,

Rooney on stats alone looks like he has had a decent season but we all know that is not true, someone should check and see how many goals each team has scored this year and how each striker has contributed to that total tally.

There is a very good reason why one is valued at 50 mil and one will go for 25 mill even if he had a long term contract. All the football scouts and respective teams obviously see something there in each player to have the sort of valuations on them.

Your right about the Argentine league which is pretty physical, but he didn't score 30 goals then. And I only said it could make a differance not that it would.

I took the figues from Whoscored.com so maybe their figures are out.

I do watch them both, especially Dortmund. Falcao has that fear factor and is the more natural finisher but that's all he has. Imo Lewandowski offers more to us as a team and that's why I would prefer him.

I see where your coming from and at the end of the day it's all about opinions but I just don't seem to rate lew as highly as others on the site.
His a good player and has scored 30 the last couple of seasons but I think that's what a good striker should be getting in that team.
I'm really impressed with Dortmund and the way they are set up it must be a dream to be a striker in that team, I'm not trying to take any thing away from lew but I agree with sharham imo falcao might get 50.
If I'm honest I think gotze and reus are better players where as I think falcao is the 3 rd best player in the world.
if I had the choice to watch falcao or lew I would go for falcao

I dunno if Falcao would though. They set up to press high and keep the ball. Falcao is more of a counter attack striker rather than a player to hold up the ball and bring others into play.

You could argue that the way Lewandowski plays makes the time and space that Gotze and Reus to play at their best. You could argue that the way our strikers play has limited the impact that Kagawa has had. And if we had someone like Lewandowski in our team then Kagawa would have had a better impact.

To say that Lewandowski is made to look better because the way Dortmund play and the players they have could be looking at it backwards. The way they play is down to their players that includes Lewandowski, he is a key part of their attack and their first line of defence. Without him Dortmund would be a much poorer team.

But everyone is entitled to their opinions. For me he would improve our team more than Falcao even though Falcao is probably the better goal scorer. This season we haven't stuggled scoring goals but we have struggled with playing style. For me Lewandowski would improve our playing style where as Falcao wouldn't, and seeing as its our style that needs sorting and not scoring goals it seems a no brainer as to who we need most.

Agree0 Disagree0

Snappy
R you joking falcao has played a large part of his football as a lone striker I think it's his best position holding the ball up and bringing others into play is a large part if his game.
And believe me gotze and Reus don't need lew to play at there best they play well with or with out him.
Watch lewandowski for Poland on the other hand he looks average
Look at gomez at Munich last year 41 goals the year before 39 good player but what a supply he got.
You say our style needs improved I don't think a striker can do that if they could rvp would off as he is also a much better player than lewandowski.
If u want to improve our style we need some cm, s and decent widemen

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Apr 2013 00:39:36
Well with one assist in 34 games he isn't doing a very good job of bringing other players into the game is he. He is a focal point of attack, everything has to end up at his feet or head. Lewandowski on the other hand will pass to players such as Gotze and Reus and bring them into the game. Obviously having good players around you will help you, as has been shown when he plays for Poland. But then Gotze and Reus haven't played as well for Germany as they have for Dortmund. And their are much better players playing for Germany than there is for Poland.

The way I see it if Falcao was in the team everything will rest on him, as he works best as a lone striker and not with the rest of the team. But with Lewandowski in the team he would bring players like Kagawa and RvP into the game more and thus make them more dangerous players. He not only scores goals but he is the perfect foil for our other players to play off of. So he would increase their effect on the game thus making us a stronger unit and team. Something Falcao wouldn't imo.

Either way this doesn't seem like something me and you will agree on. So maybe this disscussion is best left here.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy

Take a look at kagawa's stats from last year while at Dortmund compared to this year. Their set up and style of play produces a lot of assists and goals.

Falcao on many occasions is on his own and does not have the link up play.

I bet the Sociadad and Athletico games pretty much every week unless the odds are stupid. I watch almost all their games. Falcao in a fluent and dynamic midfield, would be deadly but that is not Athletico's style at all.
Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you may be getting caught up in stats a bit to much, assist can be for free kicks or corners etc, a player can link play up and bring others in to the game with out creating an assist.
Also a player could have a great game make chance after chance but if a team mate doesn't put the ball in the net it won't be an assist.

Been a good discussion though a bit pointless as I don't think we will sign either player

Let me state right now that I believe that PSG are not slightly interested in the Spud faced nipper and that this is just a ploy by his people and United to give him a new deal. If he had just signed a new deal supporters would be saying what has he done to deserve this and is he taking a pay cut. But by putting this story out there, supporter will panic that he is leaving and then feel relieved when he signs a new deal. Its just spin. Depends what Fergy wants to do. If he wants Rooney to atay, he has to give him a new possibly improved contract because of PSG's interest, but if he sees Rooney as no longuer essential to the team, PSG's interest is a sure way of selling him for good money before he runs out his contract.

Remember he is the big fish in the pond where as at PSG that will not be true as they are putting together some incredible squad and he will not be the focal point.

The real question is what are the clubs intentions and this will all play out depending on our summer activity. Expect this to be a highly publicized and dragged out process in the summer with no quick outcome.

Strootman - 10-15M
Zaha 10M

Out:

Macheda - 2M
Bebe - 2M
Scholes - Retire
Flecther - Retire (can't see him over coming this illness and if he did return he wouldn't be united standard. )
Nani - 15-20M
Rooney - 25-35M
Hernandez 20M (too good to sit on our bench, if Atletico did come in for him I could see him pushing for the transfer, and if we had Falcao, welbeck and RVP up there with rodriguez and kagawa who can both play in the hole I can't see where he will fit in. )

Morning,

Does anyone know if a contract offer is on the table for Rooney or are we waiting till the end of the season?
Will he be expected to take a pay cut?
I`d of thought we would want to get him tied down to a new deal ASAP as for me he is still united`s most important player, the team does not function the same without him!

IHaveNoName!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wayne's the biggest name at the club whether some people like it or not, he sells the most shirts and is on the cover of everything for us. If we sell him who is our brand? (kloot don't say clevs) we would need to replace him in that respect, not to mention the effect he has on the team; as you said we just don't really seem the click without him, but the way we have been linked to players and the players we have signed it is shaping up like we are trying to form a team for life after/without Rooney, with Kags and RVP coming in in the summer I think SAF half expected him to go, so who knows what SAF has up his sleeve. But the most we can do is trust his decision and get behind the team regardless.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I can see him going, Not saying I want that but I can see it happening. As for the being the biggest name at the club. that mantle could be applied to RvP (or others) just as easily, especially if he continues in the same vein as Sunday.
Rooney was once indispensible, and the first name on the team sheet but I don't think he is now. It may be that a change of scenery does him and his form some good.
If the money is spent wisely then the team will do just fine without him.

Just my tuppence worth of course, and he does have a positive influence on the rest of the team, but I think that, if he left, someone else could easily step-up and do the same. just look at the way RvP influenced the team at the beginning of the season

Agree0 Disagree0

The club is bigger than any individual and we have had better and bigger players leave in the past.

If he is sold, the real question is who fills the gap and who we buy? The club and it's supporters expect trophies and if the right players are brought in, everyone will have a new hero and new favorite and while we will always appreciate his contribution during his years at the club, we generally get on with it. i. e. I could not care what Beckham, Keane etc etc were up to after they left United.

What would not go down well is if he is sold and we don't have a few major signings in return. Buying young lads for 7 or 8 million pounds which are hopefully future starters is not enough and we need to also buy some established talent who can get into the team immediately and remedy areas that needs strengthening.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd expect to see Powell, Lingard and Blackett. Maybe the bench for Tunnicliffe and Janujaz. A taster likely for Daehli too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Scholes will probably play every game once we have won the title, Lindegaard too. I don't see too many young players to be involved, we will be putting players in the shop window like Nani, Lindegaard, maybe Hernandez, Anderson etc.

Think if he is in with a chance of taking Chelski's points record he will continue to field his strongest eleven

--------

Deeps,

Not sure how I came into this, just reading down and I see my name. Thanks for the compliment. To be honest during the games I am up and down slagging the players off if they mess up then next minute praising them if they do something good.

I have always said it like this, I support Manchester United because that's the way I have been brought up, I didn't have a choice and I feel lucky to have been alive at a time we have dominated English football. To me winning the league this season is just as good as winning it any other time, people saying its been a rubbish year are being ridiculous. Would they prefer we dropped 12 points just so the league was closer? I will be celebrating like my city mates celebrated last year if and when we win this league title.

I also support united as a hobby, I enjoy doing it, if I didn't I wouldn't spend £900 on a season ticket and risk arguments with my partner to go to as many games as possible. So why watch and spend the whole time moaning and not enjoying it. There are a lot of people on here I don't understand why they support the club, because they don't enjoy it, they take great pleasure in slagging the team off during games, then (like after the derby, the first loss in 6 months) saying the whole team needs to be sold, fergie needs to retire, it's ridiculous.

Fingers crossed we get the points we need in the next few weeks, last May was the worst feeling in football when aguero scored that goal, I want to feel the exact opposite the moment we win the title. Come on you reds!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Yeah mate, think its about keeping a balanced perspective. Knee jerk reactions are way too common here. Very few like Jono/Jred/Syd etc IMO conjure some kind of constructive criticism. Like you, I just feel lucky I can watch United. Trust me with work life being close to sh!te, can't wait for weekends to catch up with something I really love. Yet people moan, cringe and talk crap about players. Its amazing the "love" for Michael Carrick we see on here these days, remember those "Car-sick" days on the forum. This is what baffles me. By any stretch of imagination, this is the first season where Wayne has underwhelmed ( not by the stats though), but people come up with statements like "I am/was right about Wayne Rooney". Really? Is it the same fellow who has scored 200 goals and is 4th all time highest goal scorer. I just can't understand the support that comes with slagging our players off after every average/poor peformance. Wait, so are we consistently brilliant in our day to day jobs? Do we have our off days?

Saying that, yes I would want the team to invest, yes I would want the swagger and exberance back. But I will bide my time and wait. I love the club and will love it even if its an Arsenal like silverware drought!
