do you think it likely that in the next few years we may erect a statue of 'the kids' (giggs, scholes, red nev etc) who formed the spine of the team that dominated the last 20yrs of english football?
maybe not at old trafford but maybe at carrington as encouragement to our (future) younger players

I can see a group statue of the 1999 team based on photos lifting the European Cup or team photo

Im all for honouring our legends but if we start erecting statues for them all then there's going to be no room to walk around OT. Maybe a plaque or something lol

news just in from the police, a spokeperson said when they seen it was nani driving the car, they were able to take evasive action, as they knew nani could not put a swerve on football, never mind a car. lfc

Not just saying this because it's you but that was lame. Poor effort.

Lfc that's not even amusing. How many years of not being funny will it take before you give up?

Thats the same sort of ****ed up sense of humour used by they persons who sing about the munich or hillsborough disasters, you need to grow the **** up

Dags, I think you need to have a word. Lfc (along with all other true fans from all the pages) is always respectful on this site about Munich. As are we all about Hilsborough.

It is you that has brought these tragedies into the discussion about a trivial naff joke from lfc. More shame on you.

Good point DB. I think we should all chill a little. It's supposed to be banter but as soon as lfc, Puzzzled, or Stoner make a comment, they just get insulted. Wit and humour would be far more powerful

Not surprised pogba left. Fergie has such a big squad that there is no room for our U21s! Now we have no injuries, surely he could play some in the FA cup? Any ideas who is strong enough to play?

Mather

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Powell, Johnstone and maybe Januzaj? He's been doing very well!

Caolán.

Agree2 Disagree1

None of them will play on Monday. We have a massive first team squad and we want to use that to win the treble, not risk it with some kids out.

GDS

Mather & Caolán.

It's not going to happen.

A

Agree1 Disagree0

I'd like to see Powell on the bench if possible, other than that I agree with GDS & A - we have loads of first teamers who need game time so they will take preference.

Was just wondering if our wingers were half as good as our fullbacks in going forward then we would be a force to reckon with. We wouldn't need any players to come in to improve our squad but that is not the case. With the team we have on our hands I would like to put Fabio and Rafael on the right side and Evra and Buttner on the left if we are playing a 4-4-2 until our main wingers get their form back.
On another note our just above average players (not all) maybe the reason that we are in this position at this time of the season. Teams look at our players and might think that there is a chance to beat the team which gives us more chances to score against them. If they just sit back to defend against us like they do against the likes of City then it would be very difficult for us to break them down.

zaq

PS- No negative posts by anyone for sometime so thought I should give it a try but I have made some valid points ;)

Believable3 Unbelievable9

Even off form, our wingers are still more effective than Buttner and Rafael would be in midfield and we would lose possession far too often.

Interesting to see SAF say that Adnan Januzaj was a definite for the first team yesterday. I'd love to see him involved in cup games at least next season.

i would like to see ferdinand vidic evra giggs and schoels gone in the summer and the usual a midfielder brought in with maybe giorgio chieeleni brought in playing alonside jones the centre backs would then be chielleni smalling jones evans keane wooton thorpe more than enough the left back dosent need to be strentend blackett should be loaned out with fabio and buttner fighting for the left back spot I would also like to see tunnelcliff powwel and the fellow on loan at peterbouruogh givin games in the cups with powell getting a reasonabl amount of games in the premiership

Madness to have evra, frdinand, vidic go. They still are big players for the team and no way fergie would do that.

Shahram

Agree8 Disagree0

You must be pissed

Mike

Agree6 Disagree0

The only one of them I think should leave/retire is scholes. But as other posters have said letting that much experience leave is sheer madness

Adz {Ed004's Note - I reckon at most we will see is 4 experienced players and one or two young players. I could see something like, a young CB like Zouma if Rio/Vidic leaves, but I don't think either will. A young left back such as Shaw so we keep the experience of Evra but he would be replaced by the end of the season, two established midfielders, something like Wanyama and Cabaye/Modric or ideally Wilshere, as we will need to replace Scholes, Fletcher, Giggs and possibly Anderson, then one winger probably Rodriguez and possibly another or a striker like Lewandowski could be signed.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed04 your thinking is pretty much on the same wave length as mine.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I believe Ed004 and Sharham to be being overly optomistic but I'll be happy to be proven wrong! I see a maximum of 3 first teamers - definitely one CM, then 1-2 more from LB, CM, LW.

Gav {Ed004's Note - Well a few years back Hargreaves, Tevez, Nani and Anderson were signed. 4 very good players that's why I see a maximum of 4 experienced players being signed}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, do you really see us having 4 left backs next season? Evra, Fabio, Buttner and a new signing? Unless you think that Buttner will be loaned out and Fabio will compete for the) slot?

If this is the case with the left back then realistically we could see Digne, Strootman and Rodriguez. I'd also love to see Fisher in there, he will be special. Then maybe the year after move for Wilshere when Arsenal have yet another trophyless season!

Fresh!

Agree0 Disagree0

Gav

It is just a numbers thing as we will have players retiring or being sold and hence need to replace them unless the youth ranks offer just as much value as going out and signing established players i. e Petruchi, Januzzi

I am pretty sure Nani, Anderson and Scholes are not going to be here next year so that means 3 signings just to replace what we are losing. I would then argue we need 1 more CM or LW which adds up to 4 to 5 players.

Some interesting reports that we are interested in Verrati and would love to see him here. I don't know if there is any truth to that.

Something also tells me Dortmund will lose a number of players this summer. With Hummels going to Barca, Goetze to Arsenal and Lewandowski to us or Bayern and knowing sir alex he will not pass on a top quality forward as they are a rare breed.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed004

You did say 4 but then went on to list a possible 5 or even 6 signings (if Rio/Vidic leave), unless I misread? I'd say 4 first teamers would be pushing it but a maximum of 3 is more likely IMO. Let's not forget we have already signed Zaha. That summer we bought those 4 players isn't the norm and that is the most activity we have seen at United in recent times, from memory.

Sharham

I understand your logic but I just don't see it. I don't think as many players will leave as you might think and I certainly don't see 5 first team players arriving at once!

Many have thought Anderson would leave at some point in recent years but it hasn't happened yet. I agree Nani and Scholes will go - but we may have already replaced Nani with Zaha? And Scholes hardly plays so doesn't need a direct replacement.

I see one CM coming in, perhaps Strootman. If Ando stays that would leave us with Carrick, Strootman, Cleverly, Anderson and Powell which is not bad. If Ando goes then probably a 2nd CM.

Other than that I only see one or 2 more, perhaps at LB or LW.

I'm just going off what I've seen happen at the club under SAF - he doesn't like to overhaul a squad all at once and I don't think he'll start doing it now. Especially having put a squad together which is clearly capable of winning trophies.

I think he will try to keep some of the experienced players for another season (Rio, Evra, Giggs?) to allow for a more gradual evolution of the squad.

Gav {Ed004's Note - When a suggested a replacement for both Rio/Vidic and Evra I suggested young players who will not come in and start. I feel if rio goes you still have Smalling and Vidic as a very good partnership. Then jones, Evans and possibly someone like Zouma. To answer a previous post. I reckon Fabio will cover for his brother and Evra will need a replacement next season. Buttner unfortunately I don't think will be a regular here anytime soon but a good squad player. There must be a reason for why Blackett hasn't made the step up yet but I'd be happy to be proven wrong and see him and Shaw compete for left back position after next season. Then 4 further signings 2 midfielders and I reckon 2 wide players}

United have completed an 8yr sponsorship deal for their training kit and have stated that the deal will be announced shortly. I wonder if this is part of the Nike deal that they recently started to re-negotiate and that part of the deal will include the naming rights to the Carrington training complex. As many people will know the training complex is not vissible from the main road. Several months ago United applied for planning permission to errect a massive sign at the training complex, which would be vissible for miles arround, perhaps a sign highlighting " The Nike Training Centre ". Just a thought.
Raffa

If Carrington ever gets named anything it should be after Jimmy Murphy, perhaps with a nod to Louis Rocca as well. Not everything is about money.

How Paul Scholes never get a mention as maybe our greatest player I don't understand. He by far had more influance than any other player I can think of during his peak. I for one don't think we would have dominated the late 90's and even more the early 2000's till say 2009. Giggs is always portrayed as Mr United but the Player has to be Mr Paul Scholes. I think he should get a statue outside Old Trafford. he.
Diego-0603

Believable10 Unbelievable5

Giggs was a player who could produce that bit of magic to win a game whilst Scholes controlled every game, and produced that bit of magic too at times. I'm just glad we had both but I do agree Scholes was more central/pivotal/important to our success. I think we sometimes forget that as Scholes has faded somewhat and Giggs seemed to grow into his mid 30's.

And then of course there was Keano, who can't be forgotten! He was pivotal in putting us on the map through the 90's in his role alongside Scholes.

Keane, Scholes & Giggs - 3 club ledgends I will never forget : )

Gav

Agree5 Disagree1

Gav, Giggs seemed to grow in his mid 30's? Are you serious? Some us remember him in his pomp terrorising defences. The famous Arsenal goal was in '99 when he was mid 20's and he had been playing at a consistently high level for years before that. I think it's easy to forget how good he was and the influence he had as he now plays a completely different role. Not trying to dis Scholes or anyone else but we will look back in years to come and Ryan Giggs will always be prefixed with 'the legend that was. '

AJH

Agree3 Disagree3

He did have a spell with dodgy hamstrings though that once he sorted that out he came back better than ever.

Sorry my post was poorly worded, that's not what I meant. Clearly Giggs was at his electrifying best when beating players for fun in his 20's. Believe me I haven't forgotten his quality as he was my idol growing up, being Welsh, and having started to support United around the time of his debut. I'll never forget that 17 year old boy making fools of seasoned players with his pace and I'll never forget the world class winger he blossomed into, showing his class with many magical moments in the biggest of games.

All I meant was Scholes has faded into his mid 30's whilst Giggs found different ways to adapt his role and remain pivotal to our success over the last 5 years. I was just pointing out that because of that we might forget just how important Scholes was in his prime. Like I said, he controlled our play for many years and IMO would have been the hardest player to replace in that great team of the late 90's/early 2000's. Just my humble opinon - luckily we didn't need to replace either, lol.

I'm certain both Giggs & Scholes will go down as club ledgends, as will so many others we have been blessed to watch.

Gav

Agree4 Disagree0

Unfortunately I'm not old enough to have seen George Best play for Manchester United but that makes me all the more thankful that I'm old enough to remember Ryan Giggs debut for the club and, although Giggs is still absolute class, to remember him as an unparalleled left winger. People rave about Gareth Bale these days but he has nothing on a young Ryan Giggs.
