Message to the money men at Old Trafford. For Gods Sake pay the money for Bruno . We have just got almost 200k a week of the wage bill with Young leaving. Get the deal done we have so many injuries and players missing the squad looks tired and there is still a load of games to play.

I do t see bruno or maddison I the same team .
Should we buy bruno now or wait for maddison in the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 04:49:09
Not sure Jred. We need a more productive midfield now. Also, I struggle to see us getting Maddison. But if it was a guaranteed choice, personally I would wait. Or better still, get a better CM passer/ tackler and then add Maddison in the summer.

I think Bruno is a no brainer.
He can play both no 8 as well as no 10.

Very good passer and scores goals from midfield, good from set pieces.
Exactly what we are lacking at the moment.

Additionally, he is the captain of Sporting Lisbon. Our squad needs leaders and he will supposedly be one of them.

Agree6 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 08:25:36
I can easily see Bruno and Maddison in the same team.

City play De Bruyne, David Silva and Bernardo Silva at the same times on occasions.

If we invest in a good defensive midfielder we could easily fit both into a 3 man midfield, or even push Bruno higher up as one of the forwards.

More creativity the better.

Bruno, Mctominy, Fred, new HM, Madison/ or other AM
This for me once Pogba leaves will give us a strong midfield with flex and rotation. With youth coming through.
This could actually become a strength position if the club get it right.
Pogba will cover cost of Bruno +1 so won't actually cost too much.
Pogba being out has shown the club it can let him go and be okay.

Why do you not think they could not play in the same team jred?
I suppose it would depend on the formation i think both of them in the same team might leave us a bit exposed but city play with a very lightweight midfield defencively so it can be done with the right blend of players and tactics.

I'd like to wish Ashley young well and salute him for his time at the club, I think he came in 2011 so 9 years, 5 different managers and I think it's fair to say that he performed key roles for all of those managers over the years.
He respected the badge and always gave 100%, he's played anywhere he's been asked to on the right and left in midfield and defence, pretty sure he was used as a forward/ striker in a game or 3. I'll always remember those 2 goals against arsenal in the 8-2 and another few vital goals aswell. Also became out club captain and always represented himself and the club very well.
Ashley Young in my opinion is the ultimate squad player. Someone said here that he's a symptom of the malaise at the club, while I wouldn't use that as a dig at Ashley i would say that he should not have been relied on as a starting lb or rb over the years.
he would have been a great player to bring on and cover 5 positions but because we didn't spend Ashley became more vital and whilst a very good player he was not of the quality to be a starting player over a number of seasons.
I think maguire has the leads hip capabilities and think he will deal well with the captaincy.
I know Harry has only been here a short time but I agree with Ken below on de gea and on the goalkeeper captain thing in general and I fear the captaincy may weigh heavily on Marcus although it is clear that Marcus will be club captain in the future in my opinion.

Well said Rosspique. very good squad player, never moaned when he wasn't in the team and let's be honest he must have been aware he gets some stick from fans. He stayed maybe too long but that's hardly his fault, contract was offered him with good money who can blame him. I wish him well, and decent wedge of money saved on salary.

Summed up perfectly, Ross. I was never fussed when we got him, and wouldn't have been fussed if he'd left at any point. Always thought he was a decent player, no more no less. Never could understand some of the abuse for him though, because his work-rate, professionalism and dedication to the club through very troubled times, could never be doubted and was obvious for all to see. Good luck to him.

I don't think de gea should be captain. Let him concentrate on his own game.
Im not a big fan of keeper captains personally.
Perhaps it will bring a bit more out of maguire. He is made of the right stuff. His game has flaws but he has the right attitude and character to be captain imo.

He said he burst in to find Luke Shaw and a Chef, seems Shaw was actually asking for No Salad this month.

I know this isn't football or man United related but can all of us just spare a thought for Australia at this time. The devastation caused to humans and wildlife is heartbreaking and I just hope that they get some relief ASAP. So many homes destroyed, animals killed, habitats devastated its horrific to see and I pray for everyone who's been affected. 🙏♥️.

{Ed047's Note - I’ll 2nd that Red84 it’s an horrendous situation.

16 Jan 2020 12:57:06
The sad thing is this wildfire will probably force several species to extinction. With Australia's distinct and unique species that do not exist anywhere else, the huge number of animals killed in these fires coupled with the destruction of their habitat will see several species named as functionally extinct.

Let's not forget we have also had the biggest wildfires in the history of Brazil and California in the past 6 months.

The whole world is burning and yet there are still those who either deny or are sceltical of climate change.

Agree7 Disagree0

16 Jan 2020 13:25:30
Natural disasters are on the rise worldwide, your right shappy. I wonder what could be causing it 🤔. Seeing videos of those koalas, kangaroos etc honestly it would break your heart. Puts everything into perspective when you see things like that.

Agree2 Disagree0

16 Jan 2020 14:05:45
Completely right Shappy. We can add that some of the Brazilian fires are the result of intentional arson designed to clear land for commercial agricultural, and approved by the government.

The Australian gov has a lot to answer for, as these fires have been intensifying over the last few years and they ignored it.

Agree2 Disagree0

16 Jan 2020 14:19:00
It's utterly devastating. My brother and his famuky about an hour away from Sydney, days its like armageddin at times, sky just goes red even though thank god they are in an area unaffected by fires thus far.
Over a billion animals wiped out makes me cry, the loss of people obviously devastating also but just so many wonderful animals.

I or my brother are by no means climate deniers however what he has told me is that bushfire have always been a threat in Australia, historically the aboriginees used to back burn a lot of the land prior to high season in an effort to control these fires which has worked for hundreds and thousands of years. I gather the green party in Australia put a stop to this as they linked it with climate change.

I respect and listen to the science but there is also as much of a case in my opinion to listen to those before us and do not think that just because we are in the 21st century that we have better answers than our ancestors.

Agree2 Disagree0

16 Jan 2020 14:23:26
Disgraceful how they spent 20 million dollars on the fireworks at sydney. The worlds a very selfish place nowadays.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jan 2020 14:54:49
Norn, the increase in natural disasters are being driven by climate change.

Temperature increase has several impacts, one being increase in storm events, loss of ice cover, longer periods of drought, with shorter but more severe rainfall events.

This means that with longer drier periods the bush in Australia and the forests of California and Brazil are drier so when naturally occurring or intentional fires happen that the threat of them burning quicker, covering the ground faster and them spreading over a greater area massively increases.

We cover a lot of work on the effects on climate change, the drivers of it and the complex feedback systems that exaggerate its effects in my degree.

Agree3 Disagree0

16 Jan 2020 15:08:23
As a professional ecologist, I hate seeing the impacts of climate change and that very little is being done to mitigate or improve the situation. It really needs a top-down (i. e. government level) collaborative approach where every country and individual is pulling their weight to provide a more sustainable future.

In the UK, one of our biggest problems (and the result of being overpopulated) is loss and fragmentation of habitats through development, and the governments failure to abide by its own policies on conservation. I do fear it will be a case of too little, too late by the time governments start implementing sufficient practices to prevent catastrophic global changes.

Agree3 Disagree0

16 Jan 2020 15:57:09
yeah I know its climate change. I was mocking a few well known world leaders who have denied it exists. Its clear that we have to change how we do things but when superpowers like the USA don't buy in then it makes it a lot harder.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jan 2020 16:41:58
Puts everything into perspective really. Such sadness.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Jan 2020 17:18:34
What's happening in Australia is sad, but no one is talking about Zambia in the media, they face famine due to extended droughts, this will lead to an exodus of population, which will be scornfully rejected as it makes its way across the Mediterranean. Sad thing with Zambia is they lack the financial resources of a nation like Australia, and they also seem to lack the fundraising credentials afforded to places like Notre Dame, the Amazon or the Australian coastline.

Agree2 Disagree0

16 Jan 2020 17:36:14
Bottom line is that we have little to complain about and should be grateful for what we have. 🙏.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jan 2020 18:23:27
Unfortunately the self interestnof countries will prevail. China for example produces huge amount of CO2 and other noxious gasses. Many of their biggest cities suffer from smog which smothers everything for days and days. Their industrial output will not be allowed to be disrupted by their government as mass the production of export goods is necessary to excuse the pin fuel their economy. We as consumers are equally culpable because we buy so often with our primary concern being the cheapest price not the environment.

As mentioned above we need governments to take the lead on this and it may be that we have to pay more as consumers but it will be a price worth paying if it means we actual value this planet and the future for our children and their children.

Fantastic talent, and for me the highlight of the season.

McTominay's form, and the step up from Rashford have been two shining lights this season.

As have the step up from Greenwood, but for me Williams pips it because it wasn't expected.

Also here's a fun Stat I saw today, Liverpool's front three (Salah. Firmino and Mane) have scored 38 goals this season.

Rashford, Martial and Greenwood have scored 39! goals in less minutes on the pitch.

16 Jan 2020 14:20:47

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jan 2020 14:28:25
Problem is Shap, they have goals coming from other parts of the pitch. That's were we are struggling. And imo Fernandes is the best option of the 3 AM mentioned to bring that to the team (Maddison, Grealish) .

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Jan 2020 15:02:43
They have 71 goals across the EPL, UCL, EFL and FA cups. Meaning they have had 32 goals coming from elsewhere.

We have 54 goals across the EPL, EL, EFL and FA cups. Meaning 15 goals have come from elsewhere.

So there is definitely something in that.

Agree3 Disagree0

16 Jan 2020 15:42:01
I should imagine if we get Bruno Fernandes even with his boots on the wrong feet he will still be our best bet take a corner that somebody can get a head on. Oh for the days of a Bruce, pallister. vidic, Ferdinand -or a Hughes or RVD who could come up with a bullet header. all add up at end of season. Just need JAMES to weigh in with a few like Nani-Kanchelskis -Sharpe . that's what top teams do. spread the goals around.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jan 2020 19:53:18

I really hope Ole sticks with Brandon Williams on Sunday. It'll be a huge test for the kid but he takes everything in his stride. As Gary Neville wrote on Twitter, he would likely eat your nose to win a game. We haven't got many of those characters at the club.

To me, I think shaw's finished as number one left back choice. He's not fit enough, and to be honest he doesn't have the bravery, hunger or desire that is evident in Williams game. A real shame because I like many thought shaw was going right to the top.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Jan 2020 14:30:33
I actually think it would be smart to play him. Honestly, if Rashford is not fit for the match, we have to be realistic that 3 points would be a massive reach. There is nothing to lose for Ole to play Williams as we would not be expected to win the match at Anfield.

Besides, I think as much as Williams gets forward that could help fill the attacking threat down the left side with Rashford missing.

Great result again last night.
What a finish from the little man, I truly love mata and still believe he has a big part to play at this club, especially in the dressing room.
Solid performance, 2 clean sheets against a very good wolves team, thought maguire looked very good and Dj electric as usual and causing problems. Shame about potential injury to rashford hopefully he's back for Sunday.

Maguire was beaten only once in a duel yesterday. Apart from that he looked imperious. Won every aerial duel and provided some good diagonal balls to fullbacks.
He initiated the move which led to Mata's goal.

He is much much more composed and confident on the ball than Smalling and Jones combined.
People are just slagging him for every mistake due to his price tag.

Brandon Williams is continuing to be a revelation this season.

My only concern was the central midfielders not finding the forward passes to Mata.
Mata made runs after runs into those pockets.

I love Juan Mata. He’s a beautiful footballer and it’s a shame he doesn’t quite have that extra yard of pace. His vision is brilliant, he’s so intelligent and a real role model on and off the pitch. He’s really immersed himself in Manchester too. He’d be my starting 10 until hopefully Bruno comes in. With this squad being so young, people like mata need to be kept in and around the squad, even if he’s rotation. He’s still got so much quality for the right sort of game where we need to unlock sides. Classy player. Classy individual.

Lol sorry, but anyone that says maguire had a bad game last night clearly is just biased, I've been critical of maguire myself at times this season and I have always said we overpaid for him however the lad played very well last night and I'll give him credit where its due as one should do.

Mata was one of the only players in the squad I 'liked' under mourinho, a player that loved the club and always gave 100% and overall just a nice human it seems.
I now have another few I can add to that list along with Juan. And its all oles fault.
