even if its hard to say, but i can see ourselves not good enough to hold th title again, especially in the absence of Vandersar and Scholes. New players will sign but iam sure we will be at the top 5. MAny0o

Hi Guys, Been reading this a while.. to the ED's - Good Job (as Hancock would say)

How good a Signing is De Gea.. I follow la liga and have watched him make some quality saves. Also yesterdays save against the czecs was awesome. Good bit of business there I feel.

When do all these peopl officially sign. there has only been one announcement which is jones, but surely if young has been signed then they can announce that too as he is from villa. i'm just wondering if there is something else up saf sleeve as things have gone a little bit quiet lately

My sources tell me we have pulled out of Sanchez deal do concentrate on modric as fergie doesn't want Chelsea stealing a march and reckons Sanchez will choose barca anyway. also berba to lille as fergie to trust welbeck and they want to strengthen with gervinho cash. Modric to drag on though so next transfer will be young!

For almost the same price as modric or sanchez. We could nearly get Erik Torres, Pato Rodrigez and Douglas costa would this not make more sense than spending 35 million on 1 player?

Costa on his own would cost as much as any of them!!

Other news Nasri deal has stalled due to Arsenal refusing to listen to united offer my understanding is they will turn back to Sneijder or Modric he told me utd went for Nasri because he was a cheap option.'

after a terible first season at united bebe has gone on loan to united. No surprise there.I do fell pity on him though coz chicarito had such a good first season while he was a complete flop.SAF should've known.it was a big risk signing someone from the streets.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

16 Jun 2011 20:12:27
The transfer window has many weeks still to run. Still time for lots of changes of story and players who say "I'm loyal to my club and I'm staying where I am" can quickly be signed.

If you look at the way SAF has conducted business before, United tend to make signings out of the blue. It seems unusual for us to be so publicly bidding for Alexis Sanchez or Luka Modric or Samir Nasri. And has any bid actually been made for Wesley Sneijder?

With an elite cohort of teams in Europe (the ones you would expect to get to the Champions League QF stages) all looking to improve their squads, the moment one "domino" falls, then we'll start to see more player movement because suddenly cash will be in play.

On the Premier League front, Phil Jones to United and Jordan Henderson to Liverpool aren't likely to do much more than filter some second tier players towards Blackburn and Sunderland respectively. What needs to happen is for Chelsea, Arsenal, United or City to SELL one of their bigger names to start things moving.

But right now heads are turned abroad where the big 4 in England are competing with both Milan sides, and the top two Spanish teams.

At present the best United can hope for is to tie up Ashley Young and David de Gea, with a possible young signing of French centre back, Raphael Varane. Then it's a question of how far we want to go to battle for Sanchez or Sneijder. Nasri or Modric look less likely, although as I mentioned, if things start moving, one or both might suddenly become available.

At this moment I am anxious but not too worried about United making several big signings over the summer. And they might just be names who have not been in the newspapers just yet!

Believable7 Unbelievable0

16 Jun 2011 19:56:29
I've got a feeling that if Berbatov does leave this Summer - which is certainly a possibility, we just might replace him with Lakaku @ Anderlecht.

Another young, highly talented player who has admitted that he's set his heart on playing in the Premier League next season, and a prior to Xmas he stated that he has a choice of:

1. Chelsea
2. Manchester City
3. Manchester United

I can't see Chelsea going for him now with Torres bought during the Winter - unless they offload either Anelka, Drogba or Kalou.

City pulled out of the running apparently in January - suspect the Dzeko purchase had something to do with this.

I think SAF might just pull this one out of the bag whilst everyone else is concentrating on Sanchez/Modric.

In terms of a CM, I think another surprise might be in store. We won't get held to ranson for Sanchez, Sneijder or Modric - hence why I think the CM replacement might be a completely unexpected name such as Gago (Madrid), Cananles (Madrid), Erikson (Ajax), etc.

Just a thought gents, and please remember that over the last 3 years most of SAF's buys have been very cloak and dagger, with everyone (inc. media) only finding out until its all official.

@Today, Samuel Eto'o has said he is open to a move to the premier league this summer if the right deal comes his way.

Rumour has it United will offer £50m plus Dimitar Berbatov for the services of both Samuel Eto'o and Wesley Sneijder.

No idea how true this rumour is.........
i have heard the exact same roumer from a friend who is very close to the inter owner. i would love to see those two at united.

as much as i would love to see sanchez arriving at the theatre of the dreams i honestly cant see it??
every time i've seen him he's palyed wide right, what would that mean for valencia who was epic after his injury last season? then we have an improving nani to challenge valencia and on the left we have parky and the imminent young?
i think we should be concentrating on our centre midfield as thats where we need reinforcements, not out wide or at the back (jones, varane)!!!
my prediction would be a fight with chelsea for modric or unfortunaley c******e a**m :(

16 Jun 2011 19:33:27
as much as i love Sanchez as a player i'm becoming a bit annoyed and frustrated at the way Udinese are playing all clubs off against each other! He's a huge talent but maybe we could perhaps use the money a bit more wisely and not be held to ransom!
Douglas Costa would be a great signing for me ... fast, tricky, only 20, left footed and has had a good run in the champions league last season. Maybe then we can spend " big " on a marquee midfield signing ( hopefully sneijder or modric ) whilst promoting the talented youngsters we have!

BBC News
A campaign has kicked off at Westminster to make Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson a Lord.

Two Labour MPs from Manchester - Graham Stringer and Tony Lloyd - have tabled a Commons motion calling for the 69-year-old Scot to be awarded a peerage.

Stringer and Lloyd argue that football should be represented in the House of Lords because of its "economic, social, cultural" importance.

This would be great if it comes at the same time as Doglessh gets his knighthood for services to the clown industry!

man united almost always play away games to the best teams in the land after euro games.

do we not play away to arsenal, chelsea, man city etc sometime during the season?
notice liverpool not on that list
what is considered a biased fixture? an easy start and a tough ending like this season?

The Alexis Sanchez saga: City meet with Udinese and they are favorites, Gill meets with them and we are favorites, Barca meet with them and they are favorites etc etc. Add in Juve, Chelsea, Inter. If this kid is so good, we should steam in with a 35m bid or walk away. Good night!
--------------------------------------------------------

Exactly!Id say we should ignore it cos it cud go on all summer(which will drive me crazy). Enough of this haggling s**t and just put in a massive bid of 35m+, if the money is there y dont just put in a big bid 5-10 m isnt that big considering it cud b the difference between getting a VERY good player and letting other teams like city catch up with us or in the case of barca run further away from us.

The general opinion seesm to be that Sanchez will choose to go to Barcelona at the moment. However, with Guardiola having admitted he will leave after 1 more season and with the fact that Sanchez might not be flavour of the month with the next manager then Im not sure its so clear cut. Guardiola says that he wants to leave after another year as he feels he wants another challenge and Barcelona wont allow him to build team after team over the course of 20 yrs like has happened at United. Perhaps if someone has pointed this out to Sanchez he might not fancy an uncertain future if he were to join them. I only speculate but its worth a thought.

Tevez's reasons still remain the same he is home sick and misses his children dearly.. its good to finally see a footballer wanting to move clubs for the right reason and not being money orientated."

So is anyone prepared to bet me a double? Norwich at home and to be reffed by Webb?

Anyone? Anyone at all?

Bloody hell is it that damn obvious?

Ok what about the winner of this summer's worst signing? Fergie's won it every year for 5 years on the trot now and if he continues to pull rabbits out of the bag like Bebe, we may as well all give up.

At least Utd only have to lay off two physio's this year with the contract extension of Judas saving the jobs of two of them.

I cannot believe Manchester United have serious interest in C*****e A**m, a slightly above average premier laegue player, while at the same time we are talking about top quality players such as Sneijder, Sanchez, Modric, Nasri etc. Clearly A**m is nowhere near the quality of the other named players and while he would do a shift for us, I really only see him as a bench player for a team like Manchester United. Surely players like Sneijder, Modric etc. are the ones we should be seriosu about getting, they are worth the extra 10-15mil plus that we would pay for A**m. Leave A**m to Liverpool, we don't need an average player like hm if your aim is to win Champions Leagues into the future.

Putting the humour aside, I personally think the city of Barcelona had more to offer than the city of Manchester to Sanchez, and this is unfortunate. I love Manchester because Ive been here all my life. But would a Chillian who has already experienced European football? Your views!

I hope im wrong, but I can not see it

If that is the basis of his decision then he is going there for a holiday

Ok Manchester united have problem over tht last few years has been that we having had that spark in midfield and there is no one better than Wesley Sneidjer so we need to just give Inter a bid they can't refuse let's say 38m and just secure him.

just a thought about the kind of midfielder we need. The general opinion is that we need a DM and an AM but i disagree. We only need a defensive midfielder for maybe 15-20% of our games mostly in away games against the more physical teams(stoke, blackburn ect) and i think phil jones is the answer to that issue, if we buy an out and out DM then they will wanna play most games not just a few. Then we move on to AM, now the job of an attacking midfielder is to play between the midfield and the forward line. Now that is rooney's best position and it's anderson's as well. Anderson has just signed a new 5 year deal and i don't think rooney will be going anywhere. So are we gonna sign someone to sit on the bench? Our best formation is 442 with carrick playing deep lying midfielder and giggs as a box to box player who can create chances. And its giggs' role that i think we need a new midfielder for. We need a box to box type of player who carries a goal threat. IMO The best player for this role would have been nuri sahin but that mob got there first. After him bastien schwienstiger would be my choice but having signed a new deal recently i doubt that he would be available. The best best option available to us i feel is sami khedira who hasn't settled it madrid and will be losing his place to the aformentioned sahin. He offers everything we need from a midfielder and would be available for a decent price. We could even do a deal with evra going to madrid for khedira and us signing izaguirre to replace evra, all speculation of course.

I'm a bit confused. I keep hearing that if we buy Sanchez £35 million and Sneijder £35 million then they will be signed. But, all i hear is that we tip toe offers to be favorite and all of a sudden another club will and they will be favorite. I thought we had so much transfer money? Is it the debt? Just make the bid and and there will be no questions asked.

Young= supposedly coming to OT which i feel is a waste of money because he is nowhere near the standard of winger we need. sanchez would be a much better buy but lets stop dreaming chances of that a very slim.

Sneidjer: he would be a great buy for united he is a world class center midfielder with alot of experience. he has trophies under his belt. unlike modric, nasri

So here's what we know, this is the likely United squad so far.

De Gea - Lindegaard - Amos - Johnstone

Rafael
Fabio
Evra
Smalling
Evans
Jones
Vidic
Ferdinand

Nani
Young
Park
Valencia
Cleverley
Morrison
Fletcher
Carrick
Anderson
Pogba
Tunnicliffe
(Central Midfielder)
Giggs

Owen
Rooney
Welbeck
Berbatov
Hernandez
Keane
Diouf

A decent squad, in fact it's a very good squad, but our first XI will need improving. I think Drinkwater, Obertan, Kuszczak, Gibson, O'Shea, Brown & Macheda will be sold. I think Norwood, R.Brown, Wootton, Brady, Ajose, King, Gill, De Laet, Varane? & Bebe will be loaned out. If we get Young & Sanchez then I am sure Nani & Berbatov will be sold, I think we will buy a central midfielder and I think we will be bidding for Modric soon enough. Well I am sure SAF has already spoken to Harry via Mobile phone and told him to keep him updated. I imagine United will equal the offer that Chelsea get accepted by Spurs. I think Harry & SAF can work a little deal between them.

RAINFISH knows what I am talking about ;)

United 13/2 to win the League Cup next season, that maybe worth a punt guys, with Lindegaard, Smalling, Jones & the twins at the back, we won't concede many. Players like Welbeck, Cleverley, Morrison, Pogba, Keane & Tunnicliffe will have a field day in attack.

Definitely worth a punt! Stick a tenner on it and get £75 back.

Dear Ed's combined, I am getting really concerned, this is the "BANTER" site we have a rumour site, but this is the banter site yet if you have a go at any one on this site the Ed does not put it in. There is no excuse for any racist rubbish on here but just having a dig at each other is fine. If it offends you the answer is simple stick to the rumour page. I am so bored with people reading the tag line on Sky sports news and printing it on here as if it is some kind of news. I give Sydney and Blaire Maine loads of stick, but at least they realise what banter is. But this page has seased to be about banter and more about GAN and Ed 007 flirting with each other or some fat Irish Liverpool fan trying to be a gangster. Come on please its in the title. Right...

1) Just because Chelsea have had a 'supposed' bid rejected for Luka Modric (circa 22m) that doesn't mean he's necessarily staying at Spurs

2) Just because reports are saying Samir Nasri is happy to stay at Arsenal, doesn't necessarily mean he's going to stay

3) Just because 'sources' have states Inter are willing to sell Sneijder for 35m and buy Kaka to replace him, doesn't necessarily mean that will happen

4) Just because Barca have 'opened talks' with Sanchez, doesn't necessarily mean he'll join them, where he is next season - your guess is as good as mine, though i doubt City will be realistic, it appears to be down to Barca, United and Udinese, but anything can happen

Most of you regulars and the Eds will wise up to the fact that its just the papers trying to recycle and twist old stories, but to the others getting sucked into it... Wise up to the cutting edge facts that nothing is certain until a player has signed on the dotted line and unveiled with an arm around him

Ed - to date, the only player we have signed is Jones who is unlikely to be a 1st choice. Everyone else remains a rumour. De Gea, if he signs is a straight replacement for VDS. If SAF is serious about matching Barca, the midfield needs serious attention. Sneijder, Sanchez, Modric, Hazard, Nasri would all help but all are rumours, nothing more. As of today, we have only signed a centre half for the future. To have a real impact, we need 2 world class midfielders. Not sure Young fits that mould. We have been here before - lots of rumours and activity but not necessarily signings. Let's hope this year we deliver.

Ed that talk of united buying sanchez and then agreeing to pass him on to barca in three years sounds like one of the dumbest things I have ever read on here.

some people are posting we are going to get two or three star attacking midfielders but the truth is only one signing for that position.

modric, sneider, pastore, ganso are at the moment too costly to touch either by personal terms or their transfer fee

nasri emulating rooney for money

SAF have to dig deep for a world class scholes replacement

I personally request SAF to bring roy keane('THE LION') replacement as well.no one has replaced him in united.

Analysis of current transfer situation from somebody in the know
SAFs Actual Requirements
1x 1st choice GK
1x Cover for injury prone ferdinand
2x CM that have enormous skill on the ball to compete with Barca midfield
1x CDM to replace hargreaves
1x Attacking Left winger

1. De Gea -GK- is to replace VDS
OUTCOME : DONE DEAL

2. Young - LW - Signing is to prevent an over reliance on the right-wing providing attacking ball into the box, barca cut off our right wing supply (Valencia was destroyed) and with no natural united-style crossing winger on the left we never really had a chance.
OUTCOME : DONE DEAL

3. Jones - CB - He is Ferdinand's long-term replacement, we did not want to buy him just yet but liverpool forced our hand, he was going to be purchased next year, may play in CDM role next year sometimes, depends on his development.
OUTCOME: DONE DEAL

4. Sanchez - Wing/CM -Sanchez is a united fan for starters and wants to come to united, he is pleading Udi to let him come, SAF sees this guy as the next ronaldo and we have attacking threats out wide so SAF wants to see if he can play him through the middle.
OUTCOME: 50/50, WILL COST 40, ITS BETWEEN UNITED AND BARCA, IF WE GET HIM YOU CAN SAFELY ASSUME THE QATARI HOLDINGS DEAL IS ON

5. Modric - United have had issues with levy in the past and while SAF likes modric its unlikely Spurs will agree to sell him. His wage demands are quite low, so it is frustrating. Modric would need to hand in a transfer request like berbatov to even get to the talking table.
OUTCOME: TOO EXPESIVE, WILL NOT HAPPEN

6. Nasri - Wants to play with Evra at united, the lack of success bothers him, he will threaten to leave on a free next year if Arsenal do not sell him to united.
OUTCOME: UNLIKELY, WOULD REQUIRE TRANSFER REQUEST

7. Sneijder - Interesting situation unlike all the others he has tasted success so he is not as desperate to get to united as the others, his wage demands are large, and united will make little money on him in the future but he is the complete package and vital to challenge barca, still very much 50-50, will depend on other targets, don't expect much happening with him until nasri/fabregas/modric/sanchez situations are resolved.Inter are still waiting on biesla to sign as manager, they may want to purchase replacement or have a look at nani in the deal.
OUTCOME: WILL PROBABLY SIGN LATER IN SUMMER

8. Ozil - Again SAF bid for him, no dice
OUTCOME: NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, PROBABLY EVER

9. Varane - Another long term target, he is a replacement for hargreaves. Bid will but put in due to relegation of his side.
OUTCOME: WILL PROBABLY SIGN IS WORRIED WILL NOT GET GAME TIME

Other news to come.

Modric -> United
Sneijder -> Chelsea
Nani -> Inter
Sanchez -> Barca/City

Meaning our business will be;

De Gea
Jones
Young
Modric (very soon)
One or two youngsters

I think that'll pretty much be it, you never know, maybe one complete surprise as well. My thoughts / what I've heard over the last couple of weeks.

I love how the same thing has happened for the past 2 years with ashley young. We talk about him all summer saying that he is close to signing, for approximately the same fee as last year, but we never do. I reckon that he will not be signed again this year, how is he any better than nani? He's just as wasteful with the ball and he is older. And this sanchez and sneijder saga is stupid as well. Why not just wait until the last day of the window and then talk about it?

First post on this fascinating site.
If every post on here by those that claim monopoly on the truth IS true, then there are serious leaks in MUFC and the club is very confused.

As a fan I would like to see a new midfield and the last two CL finals we were involved in show that. I think SAF hoped the first was a blip, bit now realises we haven't the class to dominate Europe (his well documented dream, especially after 19).

I hope for two new CMs, however done, but Utd's policy has been to buy young and build sides, not pay 30m+ for youth, only for experience. However we (again from club statements not "inside knowledge") have 2 years of transfer funds at our disposal. The question is do we break our massively successful policy or have one summer of Galactico signings and hope (in a lot of cases) they fit intothe PL?

I love the policy of buying youth and in exceptional cases, like Rooney, paying for quality but if you pay massive fees and wages, who's to say they won't demand more or a transfer when they get the fame OT offers? Realistic investments and a strong, young team is what got us where we are, who are we to differ?

Believable9 Unbelievable0

16 Jun 2011 00:16:38
With all this Sanchez talk, I'm wondering if we are missing something that SAF might be considering that's a bit closer to home.
Why can't Rooney play the creative midfield role, with Jones, Fletch or Ando as his midfield partner? Rooney has a good engine, great vision, scores goals, and his passing ability and technique is similar to the ginger prince. Like Scholsey, he can also put his foot in too. How about Valencia on the right, with Young on the left and Hernandez up top with Nani playing the role of 2nd striker? Just to remind everyone, Nani was outstanding until he got knackered at the end of the season. He can pass people, is tricky, and has a great shot in both right and left feet! We would have fantastic pace up front! It might also save us 60m quid on Modric and Sanchez for the same effect...no 20!

Ed, what do you think will happen with regards to Modric? Do you expect us to make a bid or will Spurs even let him go anyway? I hope he comes to us, but if not I'd rather he stayed hat Spurs! {Ed001's Note - I think he will leave, I have always thought he would end up at United, but that was before Chelsea showed their hand. Now I don't know.}
