Haven't watched the whole game but daehli looks like he's going to be a great little player for us in a couple of years. Van velzen looks good too.
Some of the Chelsea lads look good (obviously) bit more physical. Will look forward to seeing some in the future at a different club maybe even ours!

We are getting overpowered in midfield and slow in possesion of the ball

This summer is beginning to scare me, it's make or break IMHO.

Ed, what do you think we'll be up to, transfer wise of course, no witty answers from 002 or 007, such as "Pre-Season Tour" ;)

I am fully prepared for the morons to come on here tonight and say how these lads in the youth team are never going to make it and that Chelsea clearly have a better youth system etc. Please remember that the united team is an extremely young one and we have done superbly to get to this stage. There is some talent there but it will take 2 or 3 years before we really see which of these lads has the ability.

If we get through or go close to Chelsea it will be a fantastic achievement!

I very much hope that he stays.

Last night was a real eyeopener. not so much that i care being knocked out, the fact that for the whole season, the fans have been aware of the players that don't perform, but the management doesn't.
Please tell me why evra is captain, he shouldn't be at the club anymore let alone a starter.when he lost the ball and never even got back i thought that no other manchester united captain would ever do that.
Park and giggsy ain't got it no more, been brilliant servants but time will always catch up. we are in desperate need for european class players, hazard and martinez are desperately needed and if we fail to attract anyone this summer, we will struggle to move forward. Also ashely young needs to step up, because i think he has really struggled in europe this year, understandable, but hopefully he can learn quickly.
Finally the tactics, last night opened up the debate again about the managers back room staff. tactics were all wrong, now i know we have sunday in mind, us fans do as well, but theres no point risking ferdy, evans, carrick and rooney toplay those types of tactics. we needed goals and we had no answer. as soon as welbeck came on we were creating more chances, well two atleast in rooneys goal and welbecks shot. if you are going to play tactics like that, then play the fringe players.
we seriously need to acquire some european pedigree in order to compete with spainish teams. i ain't to bothered of being knocked out as i am sure the rest of you are, however that was not a great advert for our club.
On a positive Pogba looked good last night. and another point somebody tell David may to crack a smile, he is the most depressing person in the world on MUTV. Roll on Sunday.

For once in along time everyone posting on here seems to agree that we need to reinvest in the squad. Couple of months ago people were shot down when they said UTD are poor Carrick, Giggs,Scholes,Parl,Rio and Evra are past it.

However after been taught a lesson in football we all no the current team isn't good enough. Injuries are one thing but poor performances are another thing.

Also lookign how poor English teams have been in Europe this year just goes to show how far were are behind the Spainish, German, Dutch teams in terms of developing young players, technical ability.

Our players are arrogant overpayed showboaters.

Hopefully in the summer we will buy quality. Young is extremely predictable cuts in side on right foot every time. It would be nice to bring some english players through or bought but if bought they cost way too much.

For me id play Pogba now and give him the chance he clearly deserves. Play Fabio or Fryers at lb, Pogba,Cleverly im midfield with Valenica and Nani and rotate Wellbekc/Hernandez with Rooney.

Fergie keeps banging on about how good our youngsters are etc, so why not play them, cos once their gone its too late.

Rant over !

Good luck to our Youth team tongiht, maybe they will show the seniors how to play football

I agree with pretty much what ed004 says about attracting the best players. I think we should go for Martinez or secondly someone like M'villa or kedira. Then add Modric who I think has a strong chance of coming this summer as this is the last window he will realistically move to us, something is going on there. You'd have say Martinez and Modric as first choice cm complimented by others Pogba, Anderson, Cleverly, Carrick, scholes (maybe), Petrucci. We are lacking a decent lefty. Bale obviously would be the ideal person and I dont think Young was first choice but Young will be a good squad player for the foreseable future. We have a problem when Rooney doesnt play. Modric and hopefully Petrucci will fill that role in my ideal world.
We as a club have good profit and cashflow to support big purchases if need be and this summer is when we need to buy a ball playing baby-eater and someone like Modric who retains posession like Scholes has in the past either deep or further forward accompanied by a new left back/winger to compliment Evra (if he stays), Fabio & Fryers.

i've been impressed with athletic, good attitude work rate and technical ability. In martinez lloerente and muniain they have 3 top players that any team would like. add to that an average age of 24 and you would have to say they are a good team going in the right direction.

I know a lot of people are disappointed but i think we were beaten by the better team , blilboa have been good every time i've seen them this season not sure why they are only 7 in the league.

i might be wrong but i dont think most fans are not that bothered about being knocked out, i think its more to do with the way we were beat.
we were second best over both games and i know people think we never really had a go but i thought we tried in the first game and at least for the first half last night .To be honest i think fergy throw the towel in in the second half firstly to rest players but also because he knew it was a lost cause.

we are for me at least 2 years of the top teams in europe although i think we will continue to compete in the EPL.
In two years time the team could be

-----------------DDG
RAF------SMALLING--JONES---FABIO
CLEVS---POGBA/ANDERS
TONY-------------------------------NANI
------------ROONEY ---WELBECK.

SUBS Chica Young Linders and what ever youth make the step up.
i think over the next 2 years we need to buy as many as 6 players with 3 of them being potential worldclass to challenge the top teams in europe.
jred {Ed004's Note - Not trying to be negative but how many players there would get into the Madrid and Barca team. Unlike a few years ago were we would have had a lot more players capable of being in any team in the world.}

I agree with '004's comments earlier rather than Sydney's, firstly we could never in a million years consistently play Valencia at right back. Yes he'd do his job but that is not his best position, he'd be a waste there.

We'd of just got ridden of Evra who others have to fill in for only to have Valencia do the same thing and for Smalling to fill in? Get rid of one problem and make another? No thanks!

I'd have Alba at left back, Azpilicueta at right back, Smalling and Vidic in the heart of defence. Then i'd have Cleverly as the man bombing forward in the middle alongside Martinez (or a simiilar type of player). Then play Valencia wide right, Nani on the left, Rooney in the hole and then get someone like Benzema/Higuain or Cavani up top.

At one point i though an attacking midfielder would be a good buy, but i'm not sure that Rooney wants to play as a main strike, he seems incapable of staying up top like Llorente did yesterday. By all means defend but let others set you up instead of you trying to set up no one as your the furthest forward.

We should go with:

____________De Gea

Azpilicueta_Smalling_Vidic_Alba

Valencia_Cleverly_Martinez_Nani

_______Rooney___Higuain

Higuain is the most likely to leave Madrid i think, Azpilicueta has been tracked for ages and we have made tentative contact with Alba. Martinez would be the best option but if we have to go for someone else then we should pick from M'Vila, Khedira, Fellaini or someone else you can think of.

I have said other line ups in the past, but the general idea is similar. I think generally though that certain players are made for us and important for us to get!

RedDevil19 {Ed004's Note - That's the team I would go with but I would like Sissoko instead of Cleverly tbh. Probably going to recieve hatred for that but there would be a lot of rotation and Cleverly would be give the opportunity to work himself into the side. I just think Sissoko strength is a key factor in the premier league. Look at how Yaya is excelling at City.}

As someone put in a comment earlier OMG! Yes we were rubish last night!
Yes we were well beaten!
But please get a grip we are manchester united we got thrashed 6-1 to man city at old trafford earlier in the season. Yet the lads have carried on not always played well like last night. But we move on and keep moving forward! We will buy sell and replace people in the summer weather its on a budget or splashing millions! I read online today this is the 1st season in a decade we wont make a final! A DECADE! One year if we dont win a title and your going on worse than the arsenal fans! We will come back stronger next season everyone knows this! All you the doubt it go support another side and stop whinging on here

Not to start the slating on a once again poor team performance but more of a observation.

Evra - Where the F**K was evra all night? We need to stop Evra from being a fecking winger.. Thats the wingers job!! (on nights like last night anyway)
the left back postion was empty all night of red shirts.

Rio - made a mistake not challenging for the ball Llorente superbly converted (not sure why he shouted at De Gea?) But we need to stop Evra from being a fecking winger.. Thats the wingers job!!

Evans - i thought did well in a bad situation

De Gea - Good for me (thought he could have gotten to the Llorente shot/goal)

Rafeal - No issues (he tried to make runs but then alway ran back - more than evra)

Cleverly - ermmm just ermmm

Park - ran his b*ll*ck off chasing down people but as the rest of team failed to follow he looked lost

Rooney - felt sorry for him - this was never a 1 man job upfront never!

Giggs - One of the better performers jsut didn't get the support of use his influence to get the team to chase the ball.

Carrick - WTF he just looked overwhelmed (i usually like him)

Young - always wanting that extra touch! why? Does some decent work then stalls (defensively useless - he'd get the ball which is great but then runs out of ideas so just piroettes until he loses the ball)

Sorry for the randomness just going off who comes to mind.

Pogba - Now i like what he did for us - he chased, broke their play, TOOK ON PLAYERS!! and provided more support going forward.

Welbeck - thank god he got on the pitch - ok didn't score but the sooner we had 2 strikers the sooner we pushed forwards (rooney seem to come more alive)

SAF - WTHell was going on with that team selection - Should have gone all out attacking especially given Bilbao's technical ability and attacking threat.

I personally though we had them on the back foot more when we were attacking in their area - they seemed to flap about and are more comfortable going forward - we should have used this to our favour.

Monk

Right, this is the team line up i want to see next year. I think this is quite realistic to be honest, SAF is too stubborn to change from a 4-4-2, so we will buy players to fit the system.

In goal: We are absolutly fine, maybe Amos will move on and Johnstone will be promoted-thats probably the only action (if any) that we see.

Defence: Our defence is leaky to say the least. I'm getting less and less convinced by Rafael at right back, he doesn't seem to have any discipline, he is still very in mature and petulant. If he doesn't sort it soon then he will ruin his United career before it begins. If we don't have the budget for a new right back then Jones should play there, but i'd like Azpilicueta instead.

Evra is not good enough at all, he is constantly out of position, doesn't look interested half the time. Jordi Alba is by far the better man and the perfect replacement for him. He can also give us the option of playing at left midfield as he has a great left foot.

Ferdinand also is getting on a bit and is looking too slow and blaming everyone else. He would probably be alright for another year as a squad player but i think he might call time on his career this summer. Benatia is a great, cost effective replacement, he is great every time i see him and he even had van Persie in his back pocket in Udinese vs Arsenal.

Midfield: On the wings we are arguably OK, but i think Park should go and Brady come in - give the boy a chance. Giggs should also retire now, he looks out of sorts in the middle and can't keep the ball and he doesn't have the pace to play on the wings. If it was up to me i'd put Young in a deal for Bale and bring him in to play on the left. But that is very unlikely.

Sahin is the ideal man in the middle since Martinez will more than likely be out of our reach. Although i'd make De Gea start working on him from now until the summer to see if we can get him. Sahin is a great player and is being ruined at Madrid, he has only played once all year and that was from the bench. He is tall, strong, plays deep and picks a pass. It could actually mean that Carrick leaves as Sahin is a massive upgrade from him. Hopefully Scholes will give us another year.

Forwards: 2 out 1 in please. Berbatov and Owen have to go, they are no longer much use to us i don't think - especially Owen. Berbatov i clearly out of the plans and will not play a further part at the club. Also, i don't think that Macheda will make it but he may be given 6 months. I'd like van Wolfswinkel, he looked good yesterday, we've been linked with him a few times and he'd be a good player for us. He reminds me a lot of a very clinical van Nistelrooy.

So, outs: De Laet, Ferdinand, Evra, Park, Giggs, Owen, Berbatov, maybe Carrick and maybe Young if we could get Bale.

Ins: Alba, Benatia, (Azpilicueta ideally), Sahin, van Wolfswinkel, (Bale ideally also).

SAF looked a lost man yesterday, he got it all wrong and his interview after the match wasn't what you would call inspiring. We have some good players coming through and we do have some world class players in the squad also - Vidic, Rooney, Valencia are the main 'world class' players that we have.

But certain players are either now over the hill or fast approaching it/not good enough. We have to have a clear out of those who aren't good enough and never will be good enough:

De Laet, Wooton, Ferdinand, Evra, Park, Giggs, Berbatov, Owen, King all need to be off.

I think we are 5 players of being a 'great team' again, realistically i would have to go for:

Jordi Alba £15,000,000
Mehdi Benatia £8,000,000
Luka Modric £30,000,000
Ricky van Wolfswinkel £15,000,000

I think something lack that could be very much needed, cases could also be made for attacking midfielders like Hazard, Muniain etc. Work is to be done though!

Over the years i have been confident of players in every position ,however, i'm afraid to say that the list of players who are not good enough or coming to the end of their careers is frightening. I have never known anything like it;
Rafael (Had his chance and not taken it)
Fabio (Why we paying him a wage)
Rio (Past it)
Evra (Lost the plot)
Evans (A good sub)
Scholes (Too old, Legend)
Giggs (Too old, Legend)
Park (Not good enough)
Carrick (Our best this season, but again a good sub)
Nani (Need to cash in)
Berbatov (Need to cash in)
Owen (Let him go)
Anderson (OMG !)
It's time for a massive clearout which will hopefully include a new owner with a shiney new cheque book and hopefully some of the young lads, Petrucci,Tuncliffe, Keane,Pogba etc.. will do us proud for many years

So the draw has been made, Chelsea will more than likely need to beat Benfica, Barcelona and Real Madrid to win the CL. If they did it then they would have certainly deserved it, but their chances have to almost nil. Arsenal have to be strong favourites for 4th spot now. But with drawing Benfica that will be another reason for Chelsea to be upbeat ahead of the City game. Hopefully they rest the main players on Sunday and keep them safe for the City game.

So the Manchester United kids will be up against the Chelsea kids tonight in the FA Youth Cup Semi-final first leg (ITV4 7pm KO). It is a credit to the lads for getting this far seems the majority of the team are first year scholars with one or two school boys. The task tonight will probably be an uphill one as Chelsea do have plenty of 18 year old's in their squad. Even Lucas Piazon is playing for their U18's. So do not expect fireworks tonight as we will be the much smaller and weaker team. 15/16/17 year old's up against mainly 17/18 year old's will be very noticeable. But if we can string some quick passes together and play at a decent tempo then who knows?

All the talk of who played badly last night, Everybody but if i had to give a prize for worst player, it would have been park, he was completly absent and didnt put in much effort, always seemed to be outmuuscled, outpaced and just all around out played, He is not a cm and will never be able to play their, he is a runner not a passer or a tackler, he just runs. He was useless and pogba and scholes should have started ahead of him and giggs in midfield. Rafael and Ferdinand wernt far behind Park tho, Ferdinand at fault for first goal and Rafael was destroyed last night. The chat on here is so boringly predictable. SAF should leave, our players are past it etc etc......YAWN......

SAF has been in charge of this club for 25 years and has created word beating teams on countless occasions. Do you really think he doesnt know where the weaknesses are? What do you want him to do? come out and say to the media Giggs is past it, Carrick is too slow and Evra can get to F**K?. Come on guys no manager would do that ever.

SAF knows where needs strengthened. We've had our worst year with injuries for a long long time and yet we are top of the league against what is increasingly strong competition. The golden oldies on this website banging on about the days of dominance have to realise it's just not like that anymore. Regardless of the Glazers, We dont have financial dominance over the rest of the EPL like we used to. We used to bully teams into selling their best players but with the state of the market these days, its obvious we cant and its a much more level playing field. 8-10 years ago we would have bullied Spurs out of Bale for pennies. In todays market how much would a 24 year old Van Nistelrooy cost?....i'll give you a clue... more than 19 million.

We have ten games to go so why dont we reserve judgement until the end of May and see where we are then? IMO if we win the EPL its a successful year regardless of failure in Europe.

I will agree on one point...Phelan is not up to being assistant and we should look to a more tactically astute replacement like Quieroz was.

What I don't understand is why SAF took such a senior squad to Bilbao.

They were by far the better team at OT last week, with better technical players, and far more energy, so why risk players in what is a relatively meaningless competition.

I could understand it if our next league game was next mid-week, but we have a game on Sunday, and SAF has admitted they have found the Thursday/Sunday combination of fixtures difficult.

Why take Valencia on an unneccessary journey, why play the hugely important Rooney when Berba/Chicha could have played, and risking Rio with his back problems for the journey and the game was madness?

These risks were taken for what? To play a team who outclassed us at home, in front of their home supporters, in a relatively meaningless competition.

I will be dissappointed if important players need to be rested, or the performance is lack lustre against Wolves as a consequence, but SAF has surely taken an unneccessary risk in my view.

Lastly, I hope that the hype on these pages all year regarding Cleverley has been tempered by his performance against REAL top quality youngsters last night. He is not the answer to replace Scholes by a long way.

Wow. Totlly impressed with bilbao over the two legs. I cant remember a team that pressed so much and ran their hearts out. We had no answer for it and we would have struggled with a fully fit team. Sir Alex said we would give it a go but as soon as the first went in he was thinking about Sunday. Quite right too. Not saying he didnt want to win because he did, but the league is priority now.
Its obvious midfield needs work and that will be addressed in the summer, before the euro's and olympics i would imagine before prices go totally crazy.
I thought Park and cleverly were very poor last night. Cleverly isnt match fit granted but Park was terrible. Should never play in the middle.

I am sick of giving out about our team performances all season.Even when we win,we don't look like the dominant force we once were.Whats surprising me is that we usually play like this at the start of the season and fergie manages to kick us into gear after the new year but it just hasn't happened.we were once again ploughed over by a quick, young side that tactical awareness and movement and were hungry to win.I know we miss vidic badly, but rio,Giggs, park, evra and carrick are finished at the top as far as I can see.we lack pace, tactical awareness, good movement and creativity.we don't move the ball quick enough.and we don't gel enough as a team.its embarrassing really.
I love man utd to the core.i know we r top of the league but imo I can see us gettin beaten in the league once or twice before the season is out.As much as I'd love us to win it.i wouldn't bet on us to win it.

I know my rants are becoming a little repetitive, but again Sir Alex has done a worse job than a blind man. We go into a game knowing that we need to score so we play with a team with only two players who actually score goals. Park, Giggs, Carrick, Cleverley? Welbeck and Hernandez on the bench? I could go on and on, but i'll just summarize and say that either SAF needs to take his meds and spend a lot this summer as this team isn't good enough. Perhaps City choke away the league, but we were just taken apart by the 7th place spanish club and decided to play old, defensive, past their prime players in order to score goals. Insanity. Stupidity. Embarrassing.

I read this site and agree and disagree with lots of comments..this is my first post..and im in total agreement that we are severley lacking in midfield, lots of people comment that we need the Iniestas,Xavi, martinez of this world but we cant afford them..Its all well and good spending othwr peoples (the clubs) money and dreaming of the ideal midfield..but if because of financial constraints we cant afford "the best" and splash out £20+ million to add to our "dream team"...it certainly doesnt mean we cant improve on what midfield talent that we already have/ lack...we could easily buy £5-15 million pound players that would more than enhance our midfield or anyother area that is lacking in our current squad..Scot Parker was a glareing example!..but there are other players out there Rodwell,Mc carthy of wigan, sessingion of sunderland and allen of swansea...all young very good players that could be moulded and nurtured to our style of play..And not maybe so fashionable that City would be hikeing up the price !United could turn them mentioned guys into gems and exite the fans as well as appeasing the moneymen, A s much as scholes and Giggs have been true legends for united...they should be absolutely nowhere near the first team(apart from coaching) ! Liverpool fans being on here must make you laugh. Such clowns who seem to ignore the fact that they have a rubbish team, languishing in 7TH PLACE, 28 POINTS behind the league leaders(Manchester United). I bet it hurts them so much to see us top of the table, that they have to take Athletic Bilbao's great performance as their victory. Liverpool FC have become a shadow of what they were. They are no longer a big club, challenging for trophies(celebrating the Carling Cup like a Champions League win).

Don't worry Liverpool fans, I'm sure next year is your year(or the following year, or the year after that).
