Only good wishes to Ashley, always gave his all. Filled in where needed. Scored some beautiful goals. My personal favourite memory was the 8-2 against United. Farewell and good luck!

Darren fletcher (BBC 5 live) says a deal for fernandes is no where near close. Sporting want 80million euro which we won't pay and the deal probably won't happen. So skysports and others say its close, he's saying its not happening. The truth is out there somewhere 😂.

Good job he has no idea like the rest of us.

Ni.
I think you have surpassed redman in the repetitive post competition.
😂😂😂 relax on the bruno thing mate if he signs he signs if he doesn't he doesn't. If it costs 60m great if it costs 50m great.
Who knows what will happen. He agreed terms with its in the summer and we couldn't agree a fee.
I feel it might happen this time. But it remains to be seen.
Patience is a virtue when it comes to transfers with us.
Let's hope it happens but its not the end of the world if it doesn't👍.

Ken, as much as I am desperate to see him sign your right. But I think no signings this Jan means writing on the wall for ole, which for me is the preferable route. Club legend, but I'd rather he left with his legacy still intact.

I am in Lisbon with my wife celebrating our wedding anniversary (got back home just in time to watch the derby) and we went to Sportings stadium on Thursday as I like to buy the tracksuits of the local teams. One of the store workers was holding a pack of pre-made letters for shirt printing for ‘B. Fernandes’ Jokingly I said to him that he won’t be needing them as he was coming to Manchester. He said “Yes, but we need them for tomorrow”.

I miss the rumours of the club shop, as we all know the staff are constantly updated on transfers.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jan 2020 08:10:01
It would be more believable if you went to Quohog with Cleveland and Joe whilst Quagmire went to see the sights-if you know what i mean. Its the tracksuit purchase that's the best 🤣😂🤣🤣😂.

18 Jan 2020 09:49:56
Nice one BFRO. 😒

Story is completely true btw, ( including the tracksuit 😂) I’m not claiming a store attendant to be a credible source. Just thought I’d post it for the old romantics still left on here. (can’t beat a bit of inside knowledge from a store staff! )

Anyway got to go, That giant chicken is outside and after a scrap.

I spent the last ten months living and working in lisbon. I lived a ten min walk from sportings stadium, watched a couple games and he was standout. Ran the show every time I watched. The feeling before I left last week was that he will join. Never know though.

17 Jan 2020 22:35:41
Deano tell your mates this one. From a very good source.
Before the norwich game shaw through a big strop when he was told he was on the bench. Had a shouting match with ole. He then dropped him from bench and put chong in and sent shaw home. He was not on bench v wolves.
Its expected that they will make up but shaw is said to be fuming and wants out.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 23:00:06
Ken, he needs a boot up his arse. True or not. Williams has well and truly made a mockery of him. And rightly so. Get rid when possible and bring in another I'd say 25+ to cover and fully blood Williams in. He has what it takes. If I ever saw a United player it's him.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jan 2020 10:01:52
Fair play to Ole if that's the truth.

In the last couple of weeks, even demeanour has been different on the sidelines, he's taking less crap by the looks of it. Good on him.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jan 2020 10:56:00
Agree angel. Shaw has fallen foul of every club and every international manager he has played for for one reason or another.
Allegedly he had a lot of potential as a youngster. Just never fulfilled it. He has been shown love by some managers tough love by others been simply called out by others.
Is the penny every ging to drop for him?
Who knows.
He is on a fantastic contract at united being the 4th highest earner at the club.
He has 3 choices ss i see it.
Accept the challenge of Williams and rise to that challenge and do what it takes to fight for his place.
Or look for a move and take a huge cut in his salary as nobody will pay him what united do
Or sit on his ample backside and keep the cash rolling in but be a bit part player.
The choice is his.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - actually ken, he was never seen as a player with particularly high potential as a youngster. He was pretty much going nowhere until Matt Targett picked up an injury just as the first team needed a left-back. Targett was the lad with potential at Saints, but injuries have destroyed it. Shaw was just lucky to be in the right place at the right time and then able to grasp his opportunity, which has to be all credit to him for doing so. The problem is (which is why he was not seen as having that much potential) he is not very bright, even for a footballer, and he does tend to lose focus very easily.}

18 Jan 2020 10:58:18
I agree with that btw angel. But ole better be careful or the pc brigade will accuse him of bullying shaw. We've seen that happen before you know. 🤔.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jan 2020 11:15:56
ed001 that's why JM had to talk him through the game. Just been told that he is of interest to leicester if they lose chilwell? don't know how true but the guy who told me heard it from a senior guy at appollo tyres, sponsor?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I don't know of any interest in him due to his wages and the fact he wants to stay at United. It is the kind of signing Rodgers would choose though.}

18 Jan 2020 11:41:28
cheers ed001- that seems to be the sticking point with most players who we would let go tbh.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it has always been a problem for the big clubs. In the past it used to be offset by the fact that a team like (for example) Shrewsbury Town knew that bringing in a player from Manchester United would add a few thousand to the gate each week. That doesn't happen any more as people have seen them on TV, so there is no novelty value.}

18 Jan 2020 12:12:34
Thanks tris that is why i said allegedly high potential. Personally i never saw anything in him i think AAA always said the same on here.
People will point to his leg break but dozens of players have come back from worse. He just does not possess the right mentality which could have covered up for the lack of talent to a large degree.
As you say obviously not the brightest.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is a shame because he had the chance to achieve and the only person to blame for him being second choice is him. Shaw needs to sort himself out before he ends up with a life that will be full of regret for how he let himself down.}

18 Jan 2020 12:32:39
True mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - sometimes you just wish someone could wake these kids up to what they are doing, but kids like that never listen until it is too late.}

18 Jan 2020 12:54:50
True ed001
He joins a long list of players who are not even. 'has beens' they are 'never was'ers'

{Ed001's Note - true that is one hell of a long list of people that are easily forgotten.}

What's everyone's thoughts on formation when we do finally get the Fernandes deal over line.
Maybe a change of formation or he slots straight into the position that has been occupied by Mata, Lingard and Perreira this season.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

17 Jan 2020 10:31:32
I can see us sticking with the 4231 with Fernandes sitting behind the striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 11:09:48
Ole knows only one formation irrespective of the players, so i think we'll stick to that.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 11:53:44
i don't think the 4-2-3-1 is a horrendous idea. Have Fred and McTominay (when fit) sitting deep with Fernandes unlocking the defence doesn't sound bad to me, giving him as much freedom as possible will only benefit.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 11:58:41
Becks,

Apart from when we play a different formation like 3 at the back obviously, don't let the facts get in the way of the slagging off though.

Agree6 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 14:29:55
Fernandes deal is not sealed, but I hate us playing with two holding midfielders. I would love to see us go for Maddison in addition to Fernandes
Fernandes plays mostly on the right if midfield. He's not a true no10. He'll be a fantastic signing as he supplies assists and goals. But also will strengthen the right side further. Lastly, he's got a great work ethic, which will help us when we don't have the ball.
So I think 433 will be the better formation if we want to win trophies and not just contain teams.

Agree4 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 14:39:30
ole was apparently always for the 4 2 2 2 when he was getting his badges.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 18:11:28
Fernandes offers plenty of tactical flexibility. He can play at No.8 or No.10, he can play at No.6 but that seems silly considering his skillset.

So if we say 8 or 10 then we could like up 442 diamond, 433, 4222, 3213, 4141, 352 or most likely 4231.

Personally I like either 4141 or a variant of 343. But whether we have the players for that remains to be seen.

I expect until the summer we will mostly see 4231 with McTominay, Fred or Pogba in midfield with Fernandes in the No.10 position, Rashford left, Martial up top and James and Greenwood sharing the role on the right.

When Pogba is back fit and playing it might look more like a 4141 with Pogba pushing up on the inside left and Fernandes on the inside right with McTominay anchoring the midfield. That would be very good against those teams that sit deep.

Agree2 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 18:23:44
Shappy, I’d really like to see a middle 3 of McTominay, Pogba and Fernandes with Martial, Rashford and Greenwood/ James. If we keep our back 5 fit then that is a very good team (on paper) .
3 more decent signings along the lines of last summer and we’ll be getting somewhere.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 19:42:42
I think it will be 4123
4 at the back with wingers
1 holding
2 Playmakers
Front 3 with centre forward working as a false 9.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 09:59:45
so harry is the new captain,

to be honest he was the first name that i thought of.

hats off to young, signed as a forward player and did the job at full back.

will harry now thrive after being given the responsibility? England future captain maybe.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

17 Jan 2020 10:18:50
Honestly,

I'm not a fan of Maguire. He is a decent CB. Might make a good Captain though.

Agree2 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 10:21:21
He's not a leader.

He rarely talks, he doesn't organise.

Joke how he's captain.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 10:37:29
Happy enough. though always though dave would be the captain. No problem with it though.

Agree2 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 10:41:00
Get behind our players guys, don't write them off before they even start. Its first season for Harry i am sure he will come good.

Agree6 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 11:07:45
Maguire isn’t playing badly. The issue is that he is never an £80m defender.

Decent in possession, good in the air and strong. But the limitations are in organisation, positioning and pace. I don’t think it’s a case of he’ll come good. I think he’s playing to his ability, more or less, and is an improvement over our other defenders.

He’s just not an £80m improvement and will always be judged against the fee and come up short.

Agree7 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 11:28:58
I would suspect a captain should be able to string a sentence together. Not doubting his motivation, but he lacks the charisma or oratory skills of a natural leader.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 12:23:55
I don't think anyones getting him mixed up with Oscar Wilde- but not a bad choice considering the options.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 14:04:09
Regardless, I remember a press conference where Ole had to basically dumb down the journalist's simple question to him. Then he followed that up with on the pitch by not understanding the very basic rules of the coin toss to see who's kick the gale off. Nothing to do with his footballing abilities, but as club captain he's meant to not only galvanise the players on the pitch, but represent the squad in the media, be their public face of sorts.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 14:23:59
Why are we all still fixated with fees and transfer money - could not care less how much anybody costs. Totally iirrelevant to us.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 17:19:29
I agree eric the numbers are so mental that even 10m doesn't make sense fees are irrelevant to me nowadays.
