Daily mail exclusive; Modric wants to join Chelsea, hence why neither Manchester club officially bid for him. Another class player NOT coming to Old Trafford

For all who believe that we will land any two of sanchez , sneijder and modric( by assuming that nasri will stay at arsenal), you are being irrational.
please look at out squad, we have enough wingers, now that young has been signed. i know some you will say that he has not been officially signed as yet but then again please keep the home grown players rule in mind.
our best candidate is sneijder, since we are looking for a world class midfielder with an eye for goals. we dont necessarily need him to drop back as i expect carrick, fletcher and jones to command the defensive midfield role. as for modric, he's a sound player but i think all will agree that for the price Spurs are asking, we can get a better player(35 mill).
of course if sneijder rejects SAF(yet again), we will have no options but to go for Luka.
for all Nasri fans, sorry guys, but i dont think you'll ever see him as a red devil, but just as a gooner.

'Luka modric wants to join Chelsea big blow!

I have an arrangement with the chairman. When I signed my new contract, he said that, if another club came to sign me, they would consider the offer.'

A second Chelsea offer is due - and this time the price will rise from their opening £22million bid to closer to £30m.

And Modric said: 'Chelsea are a big club with an ambitious owner. They have great players and they have ambitions to fight for the title and win the Champions League.

'I want to stay in London. I am very happy here and so are my family. I like the city.'

I don't want to have an argument with Tottenham, ' said Modric. 'The supporters have been very good to me and I have enjoyed my time playing for the club, but it is for football that players leave clubs and move. It has happened to Tottenham before. It is normal for a player to dream about playing for a bigger club.'

Manchester United are reported to be interested in signing Novara's Italian striker Nicola Ventola.

The one-time United tormentor is though to be high on Sir ALex's shopping list and United officials have apparently spoken to the player's agent.

The manager has been a huge admirer of Ventola since the then youngster scored against his side in the 98-99 Champions League campaign and is encouraged by the low fee that the transfer would incur.

Having watched Welbeck for Eng U21s he doesn't look too good. I think another loan season would be more beneficial for him.

AS for Charlie Adam if he is signed he would be a good squad player and offers more enthusiasm and passion than carrick does.

However i think modric.nasri.sneijder will poss be bought along with a new DM. Think Fergie will buy someone off the radar i.e unknown and worth a punt.

If Berba goes i think another Striker will be signed due to Owen being injury prone and Macheda, Wellbeck and Diof not good enough yet.

Just a thought but Defoe is unhappy at Spurs and would be a good addition to the squad. Natural goalscorer, although i expect Arsenal to bid for him

O'Shea is a ManU legend and one of SAF's favourite and most useful players. He's played RB, LB, CB, CM, CDM and even played GK once.I don't think he should or will be sold. What do you think ed, sydney

Legend, your having a laugh. He is versitile and that is far as it goes. He isn't particularly great and has no ability. Every pass he does is always the long ball. Hes not fit enough to lace up Gary Nevilles boots.

He makes numerous mistakes week in/week out, as well as commiting numerous fouls. Yes hes a decent squad player and i can't see him been sold but hes never a legend. He doesn't put in match winning performances hes a steady eddy. Look at how comfortable Rafael, Fabio are on the ball compared to him.

With Nasri looking like he will stay at Arsenal I noticed somone had mentioned about Stevan Joveti . To me he looks like a great player.

I think if we could get him and modric along with de gea, jones, varne, and young we would be looking pretty good.

Also I cant sell us selling o'shea a player with that kind of versitility is way to useful. Even if he is not playing everyweek he would be the first name on my subs list.

What do you all think?

Im standing firm there ll be no modric no snejder no sanchez no nasri and no de gea !!! . Young and jones will and have signed . Expect a keeper to join and a big name for CM but all our deals will be done and dusted to stop this will he wont he sign and other clubs upping the players price. {Ed004's Note - Why no De Gea?}

Everyone talks about replicating Barcelona as the only way of beating them, but I don't see that as working, 2 teams who play with the ball only one team can have it and that would be Barcelona. To beat Barcelona you need players who can play football without the ball Sanchez can't do that however Modric, Sneijder and Pastore can.

With that said you also need players who are very good on the ball as all of the above mentioned are.

With that in mind I would be happy with one of the mentioned 3 players.

Also with Sir Alex starting to play with 3 in midfield on a more regular basis a team that looks like...

------------De Gea--------
Twin---Rio------Vid------Evra
-----???---Fletch---Ando/Clev
Toni-----------------Nani/Young
---------Rooney/Hernandez

the '???' being one of the previously mentioned players.

Would this team not be good enough to atleast rival Barcelona? playing them at their own game no, not at all. However the work rate of the twins, Fletcher, ??? and Ando/Clev will be enough as will Rooney up top.

All 3 middle players are gifted on the ball and you can't argue with the front 3.

Anyway, I've got a feeling Barcelona are slowly losing momentum and will carefully slowdown. Over the past 3 years of dominance this year has been where they've been questions by pundits. (against Real and United and to some extent Arsenal). In the previous 2 season everyone automatically said Barcelona.

Once the spine of their team falls apart due to age (Puyol, Xavi and Villa) then they'll have to replace that..even Cesc isn't on Xavi's level in terms of technical ability.

Well, that's my take on what it would take to stop barcelona. I simply think playing them and their own game won't work.

EDs, Other posters, how would you recommend stopping Barca?

The Moon.

for anyone who doubts cleverley or welbeck will make the grade check out the " two touch " goal clevers scored in training with the England u21's. ok its only training but quick feet , great movement , nice finish and lets face it if it was Sanchez who scored it his price would have gone up to £45m.
I really hope SAF promotes Cleverley to the first team squad next season the lad will be a huge star in a few years hopefully playing alongside tunners , pogba and morrison.

I'm surprised everyone is getting so anxious about Sir Alex signing 2 or 3 CM's. I think we have a ready made replacement in Rooney!! You may Laugh but last season Sir Alex put him in there for last 20 minutes against Everton and he excelled. He is fit enough, strong enough, creative enough and clever enough to play that role and he tackles better then Scholesy, I also believe he would love it in there as he will get on the ball more!
If we can sign Sneijder then we can replicate Xavi and Iniesta with Rooney and Sneijder with Fletcher the Anchorman.
Then with Hernandez up top and Valencia and either Young/Nani or Sanchez as a front 3 then we can play similar to Barcelona.
What are your thoughts ED?

All this talk about 3 big buys is nonsense! our summer signings will be/are: Jones, Young, de Gea and possibly Sneijder. if this is the case then Nani will leave as Young signs, resulting in free funds for a deal with Sneijder. Modric will either stay at Spurs or go to Chelsea.

I used to work for a certain newspaper and have my own column in the sports section. Forget Modric and whoever ya been going on about. Appears there is 20 million left in the pot. Varane is probability, still down to him. leaves ten million if we offload 3 - 4 players and take strain off our wage bill we can have one big signing. got a few on 70k per week equates to 35M sigining and wages over a five year period. Its football but its still business. Peronally as a neutral I'd like to see sanchez as it gives more scope in my column. Finally If and I mean if its Sanchez that signs, Nani can pack his bags as the funds freed up will be put in the bank. Fergie has made it clear that its time for anderson to step up. Rooney can play attacking CM.

Strange how all you fans forget you have fletcher. Only due to virus he was not playin last year.

To the person that said the Alexis Sanchez interest was used just to get him higher wages and there was no interest from United... SAF has watched him since he was 17 so there was interest and there is still interest. Sanchez is a United fan so the only reason he would join City is for the money. Barcelona are interested but he knows he won't be able to break himself into the first team because they're just too damn good.

Is it true that Sanchez now only needs to choose from us, Barca, Juve, City and Inter? If yes, and since he had agreed to 3M Euros a year with Barca and is supposedly a United fan.. would we not be able to provide him with an acceptable wage package? (Not not the best as am sure City and maybe even Juve could top that?) Personally, even if we get just one quality box to box style midfielder (Sissoko or Martinez please!!) and this guy, along with the additions of Jones, De Gea, Cleverley and Welbeck / Macheda.. I think we would have had a pretty decent window since I think the bunch of youngsters we currently have would really be a handul in the next 2 years or so!

Also, have we lost interest in Nasri now? Any idea?

According to Talksport. Manchester United target Raphael Varane could be about to snub the Premier League champions in favour of Real Madrid.

According to the paper he gave an interview and said he had to have first team football and at 18 he's unlikely to be bought by Utd if that is the case

just been watching clips of sanchez vs milan, sanchez vs portugal an so on and i seriously hope we DONT sign him, he has zero composure on the ball and while being very quick seems to run in straight lines, for example picking up the ball and trying to run past every1 then losing it or making a backwards pass, And all the people saying fergie wants him as a central player must be smoking crack.

He lacks a football brain and his aim when on the ball seems to be to waste energy running 70 yards then lose it, his evaluation of 35-40m is a joke and is why he has been linked with every big club for years and no1 has signed him. I expect this saga to continue through out the summer with none of the big clubs except maybe inter signing him. just my opinion any 1 else agree?

The only way Fergie convinced Rooney to stay was a promise of bringing quality players in, hence why names being mentioned are Schneider/Sanchez/Nasri/Modric & the rest.

Jones already signed & looks quality.
Young deal done & will be a good addition
De Gea deal done looks good

The salary increase helped of course but Rooney questioned the clubs' ambition too, which in all honesty, we all did if we're honest.

We are spending the Ronaldo money + more from
revenue, tv, sponsorship etc. We WILL be buying quality this summer, i truly believe that. If not I
think we will find Rooney off amongst others.

Gibson, Brown, O'Shea, Obertan, Nani & possibly Berba, I believe will make way & leave.

I personally think the Sanchez & Schneider deals were done last season and the negotiating is just so their respective clubs get more money for them,
especially Udinese who are notorious in Italy for touting players to get more money.

The Ribery story from last season has gone quiet too, when we had apparently agreed a 36m fee (i think). It wouldn't surprise me to see that resurface if the Sanchez deal goes belly up. Is that the surprise deal?

That guy hasn't a clue he spent years saying Cristiano Ronaldo was "rubbish bill" "he's brutal bill" "one trick pony bill".
That was until he scored 42 goals in one season and he then backed down stating eventually that he was wrong, after half of Ireland had complained about him.
So believe nothing that guy writes about united he has an obvious dislike for us and shows it every CL game when united are on Irish tv.

With it now looking possible that Manchester United will commit to spend around £100M in this transfer window, perhaps netting down to £80M after sales, the perplexing question is what cash flow effect does this actually have?

Something like £30M of this spend is likely to be in the UK and the balance in the EU and elsewhere. So what is the real cash out effect in the current financial period?

Do UK deals get paid for in cash in a unitary settlement? If so and if sales are also in the UK, then this would imply £10M cash out. If the EU and other sales are over the player contract period of (average) 4 years, then this implies that only £15M of cash will be discharged.

Thus only £25M, on target, for a £100 rebuilding program. And a further series of £15M for the next three years.

Anyone got anything to add to this?

Varane is still very much on the cards my friend, but he is likely to go to Lens for a year on loan and will come into the team for the 2012/13 season, that is probably to replace Rio in the squad. Although it will be Smalling and Vidic as the first team partnership, Jones & Varane will be the back-ups, but will still play very regularly. Evans will be in the background pitching-in like Brown has done over the years. Evans will sort of be a younger O'Shea, someone who can fill in for LB & CB in emergency.

Lets not forget Tunnicliffe can play centre-back too, we also have Wootton, Thorpe & Fornasier in the youth set-up.

West Brom, Tottenham, Arsenal, Bolton and Chelsea. Great stuff. Looks like the team may be playing catch up for the first part of the season. Just the way Sir Alex likes it!

I have it on good authority that United will announce Sanchez capture withing 48 hrs and they will keep spending as their next target is sneijder/modric/Ganso

I think Sanchez is much like a smokescreen for Sneijder. SAF doesn't want Man S**tty to join the chase for Sneijder so he make it like he is very keen on him so S**tty will try to go for Sanchez. In the end, United may get Sanchez or maybe not but Sneijder is very much of a possibility.

eamon dunphy is a drunk old fool who constantly embarrasses himself as an awful pundit on an even worse RTE (Irish broadcasting network) Graham souness goes on there every now and again and is just as bad with the nonsense he comes out with. Does anyone remember Dunphy at the world cup the year Keano walk out? He was plastered.
Don't listen to a work he says!!!

A**m would only be big news cos it proved glazers not prepared to spend big like rainfish said

Guys, , i have been thinkng..pls help me out wid my qustn-

how are we going 2 manage our midfield with so many players?

I mean we have giggs, fletch, carick, ando, clevrly, nani, park, anto,

now i gues minimum 2 midfield signins, , n our youth playrs too who r very talentd!

Pleas clarify ed, syd..ne1? {Ed001's Note - I feel a fair few of the youths will go out on loan, probably Cleverley amongst them. Nani is available for the right price, Giggs is not going to play more than once a week on a regular basis, if that. The signings are needed.}

Tevez on his way back! Misses the o-t setup, thats a right turn up!

-----------------------------------------------

not really considering he wants to leave a 'wet and boring manchester'
i personally think de gea, young, sanchez(possible), jones then either modric/sneijder/nasri but i think sneijder is the most likely

a new centre midfielder that is apparently "world class " will be announced in the next 24-48 hours! its either one of sneijder, modric, nasri, sweinsteiger or c*****e a**m. i personally dont class a**m as world class, because he struggles playing for scotland, and apparently bookies have stopped takin bets on nasri signing for united.

Ok you lost all creditability with A**m and world class

I would hazard a guess that the "big news" in the next 24/48 hours would be the completion of young or rodregez deals!

i cant believe it, united are to announce the signing of c*****e a**m within the next 48 hours for a fee of around 14million.. thats 2 players who's they have signed who are in the last year of their contracts and who are way over priced, a**m and ashley young for 18 million aswell, we are supposed to be strengthing to compete with europes best next year, taking backward steps in my opinion, we should be going all out to sign players like modric, sneijder sanchez or nasri, 18 million for young, 14 mill for a**m or 30 for any of them 4, i know which i'd pick..

Ill take that as a joke for these reasons:
1- he critisised fergie and Manchester United for not treating him right.
2- he called neville a bootlicker
3-he joined city
4-he doesnt like manchester and wants to go home

Need i go on...

From watching him nearly every champo lge game wen Manchester United play he is very biased against Manchester United and a very critical pundit. He gets alot of things wrong e.g. He said we bought ando for 20m and calls bebe bebo. Although he is rite at times imo he talks quite alot of nonsense too.

SAF has had his bluff called, deal is nearly done for modric wit rio and £15m for his services.wenger has told nasri he can go as it looks like barca are not going after fabregras now they have turned to someone else, but wenger wants rio as part of the deal him and £5m as it is more about getting a proven cen half rather than money as arsenal are flush.this is why o, shea hasn't spoken to sunderland yet as SAF is trying to offer him with £10m for nasri and also pull out of the deal for young french center half.also heard that nani and berba are on the way out, nani to madrid £30m berba to inter £15m.there won't be any striker brought in until at least jan as SAF wants to give wellbeck diouf and kiko a fair chance but will splash out on striker if need be in jan.

""Berbatov is off to newcastle for 20 million with the money going straight to villa for ashley young. With brown, evans, nani and carrick leaving the glazers will once again not invest any cash. Alarm bells are getting louder!!!

F R""

@You have already been rumbled once when I told you where the Ronaldo money had gone, that is was sat in the bank. So where is the £17m De Gea money coming from? Where did the £16.5m Jones money come from? What about the £8.8m we have bid for Varane?

You are talking Sh!te fella.
