I know it's only a few minutes on TV but seeing Savic play for Serbia today I have to say he did look a very good player. Wonder if Matic will be instructed by Jose to persuade him to come to Old Trafford.

{Ed002's Note - It is about money not desire.}

18 Jun 2018 08:36:32
Honestly. I don't see the hype. What did you see yesterday that persuaded you he's worth £90m? He's big and cumbersome, we have Matic and Mctominay who do this job. I would rather see us targetting Isco and Veratti.

People are bored of pogba want a new shiny thing in the shape of savic.

If we sign him, in two years time fans will be tired of savic and want to sign pogba back.

We have a very good team, not many changes need to be made.

18 Jun 2018 09:40:34
Hes double the player matic is at the moment . But i think him and pogba are two big personalities and there is only room for one superstar in midfield.

Agree0 Disagree4

18 Jun 2018 12:48:15
Singh, you were obviously not watching the match closely and possibly only were watching Savic in action. He lost the ball on countless times. His range of passing is nowhere near as good as Pogba's. Matic was superb yesterday.

With milinkovic-savic unfortunatly looking highly unlikely, who could the 2nd cm united want to sign might be? supposedly looking for a young cm? thanks.

Pogba has been offered to a couple of clubs and if united could move him on tge the likes of SMS and / or vertti could well be persued. The sides that had shown interest in pogba previously do not see value in him now. As per ed 002.
Price wanted off united for sms is prohibitive.
If jose is going to play 3 in midfield his current options for 3 places including fred are. Matic pogba fred herrera (entering his last 12 months) fellaini (entering his last week) and mctominay.
So if either of herrera or fellaini go we do need another midfield player. I see him going for an experienced head. As back up to his preferred 3. At a relatively cheap price. Kheidra is a possibility or someone of that ilk.

I think if Carlos Soler is still a target we could turn to him. Think he'd bring a lot of balance to the squad.

I would love us to sign a yound dutch player called timothy fosu mensah if we are looking for a more defensive minded midfielder who can cover a lot of ground and is an excellent tackler.

On the other hand if we are looking for a more creative midfielder to play through the lines, there is this young brazilian midfielder called andreas pereira that could do a job.

I wonder if there's still some interest in brozovic and soler still.

Not a lot to be honest ken but we are not averse to moving players to different positions, just look at our first choice full backs.

The good thing about the world cup is that a lot of youngsters will be going on tour, they have a chance to prove themselves to mourinho.

Agree dsg i have seen him play there for the 2nd team when he first came in the matic role. I've always hoped he might make a good 6. But hasn't played there for years. Not good enough technically i suspect.
I agree that afew should get a chance pre season.

Just watching Serbia game and that Savic is some player from what I've seen so for, I've read in papers that we've agreed to sign him but have to sell Pogba first, I'd take that but I'm greedy I'd like them both 😁.

He looks good I’m a big fan. Think he will go on to be one of the best midfielders in the world. Someone commented that he’s ‘built like a nfl player with the feet of a ballerina’. Can’t argue with that really. Rumours are Juve are close to agreeing a deal and I would be pretty gutted if true. Would prefer him to Verratti whose a bit overrated for me. But would still welcome the signing of Verratti.

Agree2 Disagree2

17 Jun 2018 14:18:45
Totally disagree. I've been watching and he's not influenced the game at all. He seems bulky and no pace. We have enough of these in our team.
I haven't seen anything in him to get me off the edge if my seat.

Agree3 Disagree4

{Ed004's Note - I don't see how him and Pogba would play together successfully. I'd also rather stick with Pogba}

17 Jun 2018 14:28:05
Totally agree Ed. Pogba has it all and is twice the player Savic is. We just need to bring it out of him. Thought commentators were harsh on him in the last match.

Agree2 Disagree4

17 Jun 2018 14:34:15
And in the last 10 mins, he's been diabolical. We need fast, technically gifted players. Not more lumps like we already have.
Got to say, its been a poor match and Costa Rica have been disappointing.

Agree2 Disagree1

17 Jun 2018 14:49:38
Couldn’t disagree more AAA. Think savic is very nimble for a big man and has been the standout player on the pitch. Not been a particularly riveting game but he has stood out. I would tend to agree that not hundred percent sure how him and pogba would fit. I agree that commentators were harsh on pogba last game. Pogba does seem to be the scapegoat for a lot of the so called ‘pundits’.

Agree1 Disagree2

17 Jun 2018 16:34:50
Don’t see why we should ship out our way midfielder in pogba. Get the best out of him by providing a good base behind him aka Fred and Matic with maybe TFM as back up? . Fellaini looks likely to leave to which is sad but if he stays we don’t need any more midfielders if Pereirra can also step up.

Agree2 Disagree0

18 Jun 2018 12:55:57
Agreed Eric. Would rather we went for Isco veratti or Thiago instead of Savic. I didn't see anything he did that completely blew me. He's big and strong and jogs around, a bit like the other midfielders we've got. Pogba is twice the player.
Worryingly, he got dispossessed at least 5 times as he needed time to control the ball and play around. He'll not get half of that time in the PL. He'll be a disaster.

Just catching up but have to say that Ronaldo debate yesterday was a joke. couldn't hack the Prem? Unreal. We just had a 35 year old Zlatan bury 27 goals in a season. Ronaldo is a freak. He can't be measured with the same measuring stick. Top of my head the lad has never had more than 5 months out injured in his whole career.
People say his pace has gone. Has it? While he may not be lightning anymore he is still rapid. Look at his sprints next to some defenders. Its explosive speed over a short distance. He is saving himself for the right moments. He knows his body. If you watch Messi, he pretty much stands still without the ball.
Ronaldo would still do the business here. He would cause defenders nightmares the night before a game on reputation alone.
He won't come back though. he's done it all at United and Madrid. Ronaldo never strikes me as a guy who looks back. Always forward.

17 Jun 2018 09:41:17
I've got no problem praising Ronaldo for his immense achievements and his brilliance over the years - he did well the other night, nothing more. But if a Mexican player scored 3 goals like that today, there would be 0.0001% amount of praise being dished out. I think people are being swayed by the tabloid headlines, he actually didn't do much.

Ronaldo's general performances have been getting worse as time goes on, you barely notice he is playing most games - you barely see him beat a man as well - he is just clinical now and how many chances do we create? Signing him would be a massive mistake, entirely the wrong type of player we need. We don't get many penalties and those DDG mistakes are once in a blue moon things, so is his scoring of freekicks. So based on that is he really that necessary?

If Oleg Salenko was about today and scored 5 in one game I can just imagine the fans wanting the chequebook out - it's just media overkill corrupting people.

BTW - All we ever hear from Ronaldo and his agent is how he wants/ wanted to come back to Utd, during contract negotiations time of course. I have never heard a player 'look back' with their comments as much as Ronaldo - has there ever been a bigger tease? So because he scored a hattrick on the big-stage we can just say whatever we like about him now, so long as it is over-the-top nice even if it contradicts facts about how he has carried on since he left us?

I literally can't believe the over reaction to a pretty poor hattrick aside from the freekick, which again was against his typical record, throw enough darts at the board! You can see freekicks like that scored walking the dog, it happens often - several others scored in the WC already! It was good, it was dramatic, but come on - that is the criteria of still being World Class?

We are also not as good as Madrid as well, or as bad as Portugal (we have other people that want the ball as well) - he would see the ball less, get far less chances and is physically declining. The fear-factor would wane within weeks, the media circus would be horrible, not too sure he would fit a style that we play either to be honest as he struggles to beat a man now and he would have little support. Seriously I'd rather keep Lukaku.

Can see Real signing Ronaldo on again as if they let him go he could haunt them badly but if anywhere in Europe I can see a Ronaldo to PSG and Neymar to Real deal happening, maybe not a swap but the players going in those directions.
Ronaldo in the Prem, I dunno, if he was CF at City opening Liverpool then he prob would be just as devastating because he is so clinical and those teams create bucket loads of chances but he won’t join them and only United in the Prem but as Beast says how many chances do we actually create, RedRom would have to make way, his wages would be ridiculous, it just wouldn’t work for me.
Brilliant player for us and gone onto unbelievable heights, for me he is prob the best player of all time, maradona, Pele, Best up there, he’s outstripped Messi now for me, done it in La Liga, the Prem, International, 5 ballon dors, prob be a 6th, half way to a golden boot already, can’t say enough about how he looks after himself and what he achieved, but as crazy as it sounds after saying all that I wouldn’t want him back as it’s just not right now.

Never heard a player being criticised for being ‘just clinical’ before. Said it before and I’ll say it again. Nobody at our club is anywhere near as good as him.

Agree2 Disagree1

17 Jun 2018 10:58:39
Clinton N'Jie started the season with 6 shots, 5 goals, all 6 on target, that's somebody that was 'just clinical'. Sign him up!

Our old favourite Wazzer was the 3rd most clinical player in the league last season. 21.5% shot conversion apparently. Not sure how much else he brought to the table.

17 Jun 2018 11:54:27
The guy remains phenomenal. I'm sure he could contribute in the prem for a couple of years. I don't care how it happened but scoring 3 goals against Spain is extraordinary and something inconceivable for any English player (I hope to be proved wrong during the next month) . But the reality is his overall contribution will decline markedly every year, while the attention demands of his massive ego and the constant press attention will probably not. His massive salary will reduce funds needed for investments in new players and will block the natural progression of younger players and the team in general. A reunion between United and Ronaldo is just a piece of nostalgic twaddle. It won't and shouldn't happen. It can only end badly.

Fellas, this post may not mean much. But I've been on this site since I was 16 years old, I'm now 21 moving in with my missus (god help me) .
Today's game just shows how far these pages have grown, yes people on here don't see eye to eye all the time, but I find it the best site on the Internet, and whilst I don't know anyone on here personally, I value each and every opinion.
Today's match, was just a start of how far these sites can grow, Benny baller, what you have helped put together is amazing. I hope this is an annual thing, and I'd have loved to have played but due to other commitments I couldn't.
Too all the Ed's and players, I'm proud of you all!

Was thinking about Ronaldo and how he might adapt his game as he gets older. Seems like he's looked after himself so potentially he could play at a top level until he is 40. He's already changed his role from all out winger to pretty much centre forward. Could he play as a no 10 or even deeper as a playmaker? Does he have the skilset? I could see Messi playing a deeper role as he ages but i'm wondering if Ronaldo has the passing range and defensive positioning needed for a deeper role? Is it just a case that he's a football genius so would exell anywhere on the pitch, even in goal or at centre half?

I'm interested in this because their is always talk of him returning to Utd and the only doubt about whether this is a good idea is his age. However, if we could get 5 - 7 good years of top quality Ronaldo then that's got be a good thing. It might not be peak years flying down the wing Ronaldo but that doesn't me and he can't be bloody good and really effective for us for many years. I've read talk that he couldn't hack it in the Premier league anymore and that's just crazy. I think he's plenty hard enough and capable of taking care of himself. A sensible manager would look after him and make the most of his big game temprament. We shouldn't need to waste his miles in the tank on playing Huddersfield at home.

I think Ronaldo is exactly what Utd need right now. He's a total winner and I think we could get many years of great football from him. Most of though he brings some wow factor and I'd love to see him back playing at OT.

I can see him in America in a year or 2 .
I think he will want to go out at the top not fade away .
Last 2 seasons he has scored 25 and 26 league goals great return for any player other than Ronaldo.
I think he would find it harder to score goals in the EPL and maybe the physical nature of the league but you never know .
Messi scored 34 and 37 in comparison and that's playing a deeper role, if Ronaldo can't continue that standard I think he may look at America or even France with psg.

Agree1 Disagree2

17 Jun 2018 09:16:28
Off your rocker jred if you really believe that.

If you look at his stats during his time at Madrid, the last 2 seasons were extremely consistent with the years previous in terms of games and goals.

He played 29 league games in 2016 and 27 league games in 2017 scoring 25 and 26.

He played 46 games scoring 42 in 2016 and 44 games scoring 44, entirely consistent with his previous seasons, average a goal a game since his start at Madrid.

Incredible how you can question this guy given his record.

Comparing him to messis return isn't the debate here, it's whether or not he could do it in the PL. I don't think there is any argument.

Angle
I haven't questioned his record, what I said was I think he will want to go out at the top not fade away .
Last 2 seasons his goal return and games played in the league were his lowest since joining .
His overall goal tally for this season and the previous are the lowest since his first season with Madrid.

I think he will want to keep that tally up and will find that hard to do in the epl and with United I don't see him hitting 50 or 60 a season for United. Even the 42, 44 he over the last couple of seasons .
And at 33 years old coming back to the EPL is big ask .
So it's not if he will score goals it's if he will score as many and be as influential as he would like in this United team .
Psg makes more sense ibra scored 38 league goals in his last season and then 17 the following for United.
I think it's harder to score goals in the EPL than either French and Spanish league and a lot harder on the body . Ask ibra
Ronaldo could probably prolong his career avoiding the EPL.
Buts that just my opinion.
