Right, I don't really post on here but i've finally decided to give my thoughts. I hope you can see the sense in them.

Firstly, i'd just like to say that we need a big squad, we fight on many fronts every season and getting rid of good players is non sensical in my view - although 'dead wood' must go and there can be no room for sentiment. So:

GK: The only possible work here will be that Johnstone takes over from Amos as the number 3. But no signings whatsoever will even be considered.

Defence: The full back areas are of primary concern for me as i think both are weak. Whilst we need experience, i don't that we need Evra's influence anymore as i think on the pitch it is negative. He seems lazy, gets skinned often etc and is generally a liability. I think the most likely replacement for him is Aly Cissokho, i would like Alba but with the possible downfall of Abidal, he will probably head to Barca. At right back Rafael is very raw still and injury prone, also Smalling and Jones need more games in the middle, so, we need a good right back. I'd go for the boy from Marseille that we have been tracking, Azplicueta. He looks decent and has performed very well in the CL.

At center back we are doing ok, Ferdinand will be here one more season, Vidic has two or three left in him depending on his recovery and then we have Evans who is doing nicely and Jones/Smalling who will be a future pairing. I would like to gradually see Ferdinand eased out with Smalling playing in more games, but that is a gradual process. Some on here think someone like Benatia would be good, but i think money is better spent elsewhere.

Midfield: Like in defence, there is work to be done. A central midfielder should be bought, two if Pogba signs his soul away to Juve. Pogba will be a good box2box player for us, as is Fletcher and Anderson. Cleverly, Scholes and Carrick are the passers in the team. Now, generally in the great teams that we have had, we go with a passer and a runner/bully (Scholes and Keane for example). SAF clearly trusts in Cleverly, and i think he will be perfectly paired with Pogba. But football is a squad game, and Carrick, Giggs, Scholes are all coming to the end of the road. So that leaves us with Cleverly, Pogba and Anderson. I think we need to add to that, and i'm going to say go for Martinez even though we have a battle. The reason being is he embodies all the qualities that we need, strong, powerful and a good passer. He can also fill in at center back so therefore we don't need to waste 10 million on a center back like some think that we need. I'd also sign Kovacic at the end of the season on a free, no risk, but bags of potential and CL experience already.

On the wings, Park is not effective any longer. Our best wingers in a list are Valencia, Nani, Young. I wasn't convinced with Young when we bought him, he has been ok and is a squad player. I think if we signed another winger and had 4 good ones with two outstanding ones then we have lots of options. I have to go with Hazard, what a player he is going to be. If need be i suppose Nani could be sold but id be loathed to lose him.

Forwards: King, Macheda, Owen and Berbatov are going to have no effect on our team and are best off pursuing their careers elsewhere. The only man i'm hoping for is Higuain. I think he is going to be available for a decent fee in the summer also, Cavani will be Madrid's number one target and Benzema is favoured over Higuain. A partnership of him and Rooney is something to die for, it would be one of the best in the world (and he's only 24 i think).

So, the line up:

_____________De Gea
Azpilicueta_Smalling_Vidic_Cissokho
Valencia__Martinez__Cleverly__Hazard
_________Rooney___Higuain

This would of course come at a cost - £100 million i'd say, but we could recoup about £25 million, so a £75 million out lay is a high but necessary expenditure in my eyes.

Obviously i don't think that all of this will happen, but i hope that some of it will.

This summer will be an interesting one, i feel we'll see a clear out of sorts but retain some of our more experianced players. I think Rio Anderson Giggs and Scholes will stay for one more year as well as possibly Evra. Berbatov Park Owen Macheda Kusczcak Bebe De Laet James Norwood R.Brown Wootoon and King could all be on their way along with Evra who i think is 50/50 atm.

Goalkeeping situation looks sorted, and will be for a long while yet.

In defence, i don't think we'll see a central defender signed as we have Rio Vidic Smalling Evans and Jones. I know Rio is injury prone but Evans has really proved himself recently as well as Smalling and we have Vidic as first choice, i think Jones will long term be a centre back and it will be important to play him with Vidic and Rio so they can help him learn the role, people have questioned his positioning but that won't improve without him playing and it would be better for him to play along side someone experianced so it would be detrimental to his progression to sign someone else. Left back is an interesting one, Evra should go but with Fryers and Blackett coming through do we need someone who'll be here long term? I think we'll see Evra for one more year then he'll move on. We might see a young LB like Digne or Willems join but only if Fryers leaves. Right back could also be an issue with the twins fitness issues, i wouldn't advocate spending money on a RB as we need to spend it else where but Nathaniel Clyne on a free could be a good bit of bussiness as cover/competition for Rafael(i know we'll have to pay compo but that wouldn't be much).

Right onto Midfield, this is where it gets interesting. There is a strong surgestion that we could be interested in Hazard and he seems interested in join us. Now i feel he is very similar to Nani but able to play central as he has a much better football brain than Nani. This i feel puts Nani's future into question, last year he asked for a new contract less than a year after signing a new one also apparently Sir Alex was open to the idea of letting him go. Now i know he has good stats but Valencia is better on the right than Nani and Young is better on the left than him which leaves him without a place in the first team, so it woul make sense to sell him if the money was being used to bring in someone like Hazard who could play behind Rooney or on the wings if needed. Would you swap Nani for Hazard is what it comes down to.
Now further back is also in need of work, Some say we need a DM, i don't feel we need one all of the time but we do need someone who can play that role as we are lacking someone. We have Carrick Scholes and Cleverley who are the passers, and Fletcher Anderson Pogba who are more Box to box players but no one who can Break things up properly. I don't think we should spend a fortune on someone like that as we don't need them all the time, someone like Claudio Yacob would be a great signing and he's on a free, give him a three year contract and if he's a success then extend it the fallowing summer if not then off load him and make money on him. The Only other DM i feel we could go for is M'Vila but he'll be pricey. IF Pogba leaves then we could do with a Box to Box type midfielder to provide that drive from the middle as Fletcher and Anderson have question marks over their fitness. If Pogba does leave then i'd go for Axel Witsel or Moussa Sissoko.

Up front we need to add some one who can hold the ball up and bring other players into the game as if Welbeck is injured we have no one to do this, but they still need to bring something different to the table. I feel Rooney should play upfront as we rely on him too much if he plays deeper and he is prone to having good and bad spells. The striker i'd go for would be Andriy Yarmolenko as he has the pace to play on the shoulder, the strength to hold the ball up, the skills to frighten defenders when running on to them, and the vision to bring his team mates into the game. He can also play on the left wing giving us more options and could play on the left of a front three with Rooney and Welbeck which would be frightening. Also he wouldn't cost the earth like some other strikers.

So coming in would be:
Nathaniel Clyne, Claudio Yacob, Eden Hazard and Andriy Yarmolenko which would cost about 45m tops.

Then we could play either:

___________DDG
_Rafael_Smalling_Vidic_Evra

_____Cleverley_Pogba

_Valencia__Hazard__Young
_________Rooney

Or

___________DDG
_Rafael_Smalling_Vidic_Evra

__Pogba__Yacob__Cleverley

_Welbeck_Rooney_Yarmolenko

with Lindegaard Amos Fabio Clyne Evans Jones Fryers Rio Carrick Scholes Anderson Tunnicliffe Giggs Brady Petrucci Lingard Hernandez and Will Keane all providing cover and competition in the squad.

The Glazer family (owners of ManUtd) need to realize that if we want to take our international competitions seriously, we need to start spending money and bring in some serious talent. Manchester United is easily one of the best football clubs in the world and that is mostly from the philosophy of taking unknown talent at a young age and training them up. I have always loved that about them, but there is nothing wrong with buying players either. WE NEED TO. Manchester City have spent over $1 billion in the last 3 years SOLELY on bringing in new talent. We definitely need at least 2 new center mids (preferably Sneijder and Modric), definitely a right back (plenty of all-star quality available at this position in the world), and definitely a world-class striker in front of Rooney. There are innumerous strikers out there that could help take our club to the next level. I am praying that we sign Robin Van Persie (not the youngest guy, but still has gas in the tank). RVP is sick... but Benzema is very young and is probably our best option. He may be worth the same price as RVP and get twice the amount of years out of him. Real Madrid is my second favorite team and I have always loved Benzema. Higuain is a quality striker, but not as young, fast, or flashy as Benzema. Hoping the Glazers FINALLY spend some serious money picking up some world-class all-stars before Rooney decides to leave. He has warned us and threatened us with what will happen if the owners don't bring in major talent around him...

There is going to be a big cash injection this year, upwards of £100 million is possible. Its likely that we will be the top spenders in the League this year.

Firstly, expect a sizeable clear out, De Laet, Evra, Carrick, Giggs, Park, Berbatov, Owen, Bebe all to be on their way.

Coming in will be something like this:

Cesar Azpilicueta
Aly Cissokho
Javi Martinez
Eden Hazard
Mateo Kovacic
Gonzalo Higuain

It will be SAF's last year, he wants to complete the rebuild and go out as European Champions. This new squad will do just that.

I lost any respect I had for Tel 1749 when he came out with a load of stats supporting his belief that Jay Spearing was better than any young player at our club. 95% completed passes. The ball might be flowing through him but it's to the other side Tel. Nearly wet myself. If jay spearing is your standard for a shining beacon of football ability then your going to be needing some different tablets.
We may need changes to our side which hopefully be addressed in the summer but you need worry about your lot and £35 million spent on a knuckle-dragger.

heres some stats me and a few others got earlier

rooney 29goals this season 7 assists and 132shots
he has 5 headers 3 with weak foot 20 with right doesnt say the last one 4 braces 2 hattricks
26% of his goals have come from outside the box
5 offsides all season

aguero 23goals this season 7 assists 115shots
he has 0 headers 5 with left foot 18 with right 3 braces and 1 hattrick
13% of his goals have been outside box
25 offsides this season

rvp 32 goals this season 9 assists with 145shots
2 headers 18 with left foot 12 with right 5 braces 2 hattricks
6% of his goals are from outside the box
37 offsides this season

now heres a surprise
disciplinary this season

rooney 22 fouls 1 yellow
aguero 57 fouls 2 yellows
rvp 28 fouls 6 yellows

defensively
rooney 3 blocks 9 clearances
aguero nothing
rvp 2 blocks 28 clearances

dont see anything about total games but its rvp then aguero then rooney (most to least) i think

aguero scoring rate = exactly 1 goal per 5 shots
rooney =1 goal per 4.551shots
rvp= 1 goal per 4.531 shots

rvp and rooney are almost exactly the same aguero is a bit worse off

make up your mind whos best

Very disapointed with our cup runs this season all very poor. In all honesty I dont think we could have won chapions league this season just not got the players to compete with real or barca. Ive seen lots of fans on hear Bitching about our europa performances but my feelings on it are thank god its over I hope its a while before I have to sit through that crap again we as a club ddnt need the extra games and Fergie had no intrest at all in going for it and rigtly so the most important thing we can do this season and job number one is win the title and keep it from citys grasp. Now the hammering at home to city beating at Newcastle or home loss to Blackburn all painful results BUT with 10 games to play being a point infront of a team that has the much harder run of games is very good if you compare the squads man for man how we are evan able to compete is beyond me let alone be top.

This would be one of the sweetest if not the sweetest.

But we must must must buy big in the summer

I think that Nuri Sahin is the perfect player for us. We are going to sign players that fit into our system, not fit a system around signings - which is the right way to do things even though i'd like to see a slight shift in the system.

Nuri Sahin is an excellent deep lying play maker who makes lots of interceptions, tackles and great passes. He dictates the tempo of the match, and i think that is something that we have missed in Europe this year.

Previously i've advocated the signings of those such as Javi Martinez, but he is out of reach. Other 'defensive midfielders' have been considered by all of us on here but the majority of them aren't good on the ball. Nuri Sahin gives us the best of both worlds. Madrid have given him about 30 minutes of football this season, hopefully he is getting fed up as rumours suggest.

I still think Azpilcueta, Alba, Hazard and Higuain/Benzema would complete the squad though - we would instantly have a competitive team once again in Europe.

___________De Gea
Azpilicueta_Smalling_Vidic_Alba

___________Rooney
___________Higuain

That would be a fantastic team.

LFC fan here and once again i will give you my honest assesment of where United are:
1) there are too many old players in your squad aka Ferdinand, Carrick, Giggs, Scholes, Evra, Owen, Berbatov. They were all world class players in their day, but sadly father time has caught up with them and they need replacing. Cost to replace like for like? £200 million
2) You may win the league this season but you cant cover the cracks for too long, Scholes has been your savious this season undoubtedly, which really says something eh ? Personally I think City will clinch it, the derby game could be the decider for the title, and although you may not like it, they are the better team undoubtedly.
3) You have some brilliant young guns, but also some very over rated ones. For me Wellbeck and Smalling will definitely make it. I personally dont rate Jones , who runs around the pitch like a headless chicken ( aka Steve Bruce ). Cleverly was very poor against Bilbao. Your young guns are not going to save United.
4) You have world class players in Rooney and Valencia, but if United dont win the league, I can honestly see Rooney leaving. He nearly left last year and may realise that he made a big mistake by not moving. Who can blame him if United dont spend BIG in the summer ?
5) Fergie was given his early warning in last years embarassing European Cup final. United were made to look awful and Fergie had no answer to the skill and tactical awareness of FCB. He has learnt NOTHING since then and his arrogance has been his undoing. When battered by City this year his response was 'it didnt happen, lets just forget about it!' Bilbao have once again demonstrated that the United of old has well and truly gone and no-one in Europe of the Premiership for that matter, fears United. Im afarid its time for him to retire, he has achieved a lot in his career but he is way too old for the young managers who are now ruling the roost at the tope of Europes elite.
6) last but not least, this is not a personal crusade to wind you guys up, it is just my honest assesment.

ps by the way, for those interested, my treatment seems to be working and the nurses are looking even younger, wehey!....oops my teeth just fell out, time for my leek and potato soup. God I hate those plastic bibs they put on me.......:-)

How refreshing was it to see some good old fashioned tackles and no play acting last night at the youth cup?

Pearsons in particular, loved it! his tackling timing was immense. Also Mculloch he was very strong.

Really enjoyed it, does anyone know if the return leg is being televised?

Oh and must say thanks to Syd for the heads up and the shouts on Barmy and Daehli. Both very assured and Daehli has such an eye for a pass and always finds space, My dad thought it was scholes haha
