Diving has been around very long time ! It's just got more drama in dive . Don't approve of it but here's situation your attacker - objective -- score or make goal !! So if their is contact in box 1) do you make the fowl and hope your team can benefit ?
2) do you ride challenge and loose chance
3) what would your manager say if you wasted great chance of penalty or free kick etc
But this situation is also same for defender
1) do you make tackle ?
2) do you take red card ?
3) do you use your arm to stop certain goal (vidic)
Also huge difference between young and Suarez just take look at their history , young has got 2 penalties recently , fair play Ashley as he does run at you at speed.
It's all in way you want to interrupt the situation .
Intresting thing watching barca they create lots of chances and draw teams into fowling them or in lots cases a near fowl but the intent was their and the dives appear ! So are they cheats or are they just trying to win game (at all costs)

Fascinating the Chelsea game. That is exactly how we played in the 2008 semi final at Old Trafford when Quiroz was around. Very good tactical set up tonight from Chelsea, I wonder where it came from and why we have been unable to get our tactics anywhere near right in two games against them.

You had to laugh when the Barcelona players were trying to pull Drogba to his feet telling him he was feigning injury. Oh the irony of it.

Well done to Chelsea for tonight at least

Looking at our team i think after alot of thought this is what i feel maybe likely to happen this summer.

In defence i feel with the current form of Evans that no CB is needed. This will i think push Jones and Smalling to play a few games at RB meaning we shouldn't need a RB but we may go for Clyne as he'll be free or as good as, he'd offer good competition for Rafael for years to come. Onto LB, with Fabio going out on loan and Fryers may or may not be here next season then it's obvious that Evra will be here next season. So it's who are we going to bring in to act as an understudy and competition for Evra and for Fabio in seasons after that. I Don't think it will be a big name player or anyone who will cost more than 5m or so as i think the funds will want to be focused else where rather than being spent on a player to be used as cover for LB. Maybe someone like Bryan Oviedo who we've been linked with today or Guilherme Siqueira or perhaps Dodo.

In Midfield we have plenty of ball playing midfielders like Scholes Carrick Cleverley and Petrucci so maybe it would be best to leave bringing this kind of midfielder until after next season when we've had a better chance to access young players like Cleverley and Petrucci who are both looking like decent talents. We then have Pogba who i feel will grow into a player similar to Yaya Toure a powerful box to box player who is skillful and dynamic, this would be great as long as he stays. I feel the reason he hasn't had more chances this year as he didn't go on the pre season tour and Sir Alex likes to blood youngsters on the tour, we should see quite a few youngsters on the tour this summer due to the more senior players being off at the euro's and the more establised younger player likely to go to the olympics. So what do we need in midfield? i think we need someone who can be that pitbull in the middle we've missed since Keane left, someone who can shield our young defence and offer protection to our young midfielders as they come into the team, if we bring someone in who could take the defensive responsbilities in midfield than it would relieve the pressure on any young midfielders breaking into the first team. For me there is three main options for this role:

1, Yann M'Vila, a great young player and prospect. May be abit to young to be the player relieving the pressure on the youngster, would be expensive and has attitude problems.

2, Sandro, proven in the premier league and in champions league is a great player but has room to improve and grow, the only downsides are he's had a couple of injuries and it would be hard to get him off of Spurs for a reasonable price.

3, Claudio Yacob, would be a gamble as he hasn't played european football but looks a talent and would cost nothing so maybe a gamble worth taking.

I left out Javi Martinez as i feel he will cost far too much and i don't think were in a position to get in a bidding war. Although he would be my first choice.

If we were to go for a ball playing midfielder to keep the team ticking over then the three i'd short list are: Joao Moutinho, Kevin Strootman and Nuri Sahin all would be difficult to get this summer but maybe easier the summer after.

Further forward we need a left footed option on the left and possibly a striker. We could go for a strict winger like Angel Di Maria, James Rodriguez Nico Gaitan or even Dusan Tadic if you wanna go for a gamble or you could go for a left footed winger come striker who could fullfil two roles, players like RVP, Andriy Yarmolenko or Antoine Griezmann. if we wanna go for an out and out striker then we could go for someone like Leandro Damiao or Luuk De Jong or we could go for someone older who could just be used as cover like Raul or Del Piero.

I think it will be an interesting summer with more out goings than incomings with only 3 or 4 coming in.

What is the situation with Oriel Romeu? How long is his contract at Chelsea? I thought he looked fantastic at the start of the season when he was getting some playing time. Personally i think he would be a great addition for United.

Decent result for Chelsea but seriously doubt it's enough - the pressure will be even more intense and prolonged at the Nou Camp - can see Barca scoring more than one so I reckon Chelsea are going to be up against it

Chelsea parked the bus on their cramped pitch and Barcelona still carved out four good opportunities that if landed at Messi's feet they would have scored them all. It's going to be fifty times harder in Spain and I can only see a 4.0/5.0 thrashing. Could have easily been 4.1 tonight. I wonder if anyone in the media will mention Drogba's dive? I won't hold my breath ;)

I wonder if Chelsea can go both games without losing a player or conceding a penalty for some obscure reason ;)

I could not care less about people disagreeing with me on this, it's my feeling on the game and afterall it is football and anything can happen.

It's hardly United talk but it is football...

Chelsea 2-0 Barcelona.

I think Cole will take Messi out all night with professional fouls. IMO Cole is the best LB in the world at the moment.

I think Barcelona will underestimate Chelsea and they're probably on a high from the slaughter of Spurs at the weekend.

As for the 2nd Leg, well I'm not sure how that'll go but I'm going to say a score draw of some kind.

Alan Shearer on agreeing United deal.

“There was interest from Manchester United, but I was told I had to wait three or four weeks for them to get the money together. I felt if they really wanted me then they would come and get me immediately. I had already spoken to Blackburn and told Kenny Dalglish, Ray Harford and Jack Walker that I would give them an answer in three of four days – and my answer was yes.”

We can all find quotes jred, how about one from the horse's mouth?

You really make me laugh , what has this quote about shearer moving from southampton to Blackburn got to do with his transfer from Blackburn to Newcastle , which was the topic we were talking about

There are a few issues id like cover:

1. Premier League team over the last 20 years;
shmiechel
neville terry ferdy cole
becks scholes viera giggs
henry shearer
my team consists of players that produced top quality performances consistently for years, not just 1, 2 or 3 years.

2. Gaitan rumours;
GDS seems completely obsessed with gaitan, do you realise loads of players are classified as 'not good enough for united' or 'not united quality' on this page on a daily basis? Anyways, unlike most poster here, i watch the premier league as well as other leagues including the spanish la liga, the german bundasliga, the italian serie A, the french ligue 1 and the portuguese league. I have watched enough benfica matches to tell you Gaitan is a decent player but is nothing special. Nani is by far the better player. Id be o.k with the club signing gaitan as a replacement for giggs, not for nani. I know this wont sit well with the Nani-haters...lol.

3. Next season's team, if the right players are available, pursued and signed;
Gea
rafael vidic evans L.B?
Nani C.M? Schole/carrick LW?
Rooney ST?
Top players are needed in the above positions to make us competitive in europe.

Just a thought on the left back situation, remember a while back we had allegidly signed Dodo from Corinthians? Well obviously we hadn't, but we did get first option on him until he was 21 (up to his 22nd birthday). Well he was 21 in February and apparently we had a fixed price at around £6,000,000. So i'm thinking that maybe we finalise the deal for him in summer, bring him in, loan Fabio out and then the following year have Fabio and Dodo battle it out for the first team spot? Makes more sense than us signing someone like Cissokho to compete with Evra i think.

The first person i'd have on my bench would be the Torres of old, in his first few seasons at the Pool..he was easily the best striker in the world at that time IMHO.

I would have bought a Liverpool top with his name on the back if I could have been ars*d ;)

Sydney, it was me who posted originally about that one man who is refsing to sell up his house.

It is true, and from what I understand he is being extremely stubborn about it, and that the club are trying everything they realistically can to oust him, but he just won't budge.

Silly thing for a 'fan' to do to the club, but if he wants to be a person let him, there's nothing can be done about, unless we wish to hire Assassino 007 to take care of yhe job ;)

The majority of us want a CM this summer, Martinez, M'Vila, Strootman, Modric, Xhaka, Erikson, McCarthy all having been mentioned on this site somewhere as a preference of people which is fine, but with our CM's already, Scholes, Carrick, Anderson, Fletcher and Cleverley if we add one more CM to that lot, that gives us 6 CM's!

Now I can see us selling Anderson, but the others I think we will keep hold of for at least next season so my question is, where does this leave Pogba, Tunncliffe and Pettruci?

Game time seems to be a big factor for young players which is understandable so how would they feel and how much game time will they get behind Carrick, Scholes, Cleverley, Fletcher (when fit) and an added CM who will more than likely gonna be a regular?

By 2013-2014 season, a CM choice of Pogba, Pettruci, Tunncliffe, Cleverley then my ideal signing Martinez + another youngster coming through or potentially say Erikson would be fantastic, but are players prepared to be patient?

So would people be happy if we didn't sign a CM and went with a CM option to start the season off as Scholes, Carrick, Cleverley, Pogba, then either Tunncliffe OR Pettrucci with Fletcher to come back and then spend money on a Striker and LM or go in and buy a CM and risk losing one of Pogba, Tunncliffe, Pettrucci or worse, all 3?

Who'd want to be a manager?

Read a good article today which made perfect sense to me, it was in the Guardian about our midfield. I think it was written a while ago. But the writers makes some very salient points, firstly he says that SAF's favoured combination of midfielders are a 'passer' with a 'runner' which offers a nice balance, i.e. Scholes (passer), Keane (runner). Within our squad currently we have a number of 'passers' in Cleverly, Scholes and Carrick. The 'runners' that we have i think are less good, e.g. Anderson, Fletcher, Jones are not as good. Anderson and Fletcher have not been at all dependable this year and Jones does not have the ball skills to play in the center of the park. And don't get me started about Rafael, Giggs or Park playing in the middle.

So this would indicate that as far as 'passer' options are concerned we will be alright for a year or so with Scholes filling in, Carrick being important and Cleverly showing promise. Cleverly and Carrick could be good with Carrick as the 'passer' and Cleverly as the 'runner'. But ideally this 'runner' figure is what we should be looking at in the summer window to solve some midfield issues. They do of course need to be good on the ball and can pass, but work rate is going to be an important factor on who we buy. Martinez does fit this bill, Strootman and Eriksen don't. Khedira and Garcia also may fit the bill but they're not quite so good on the ball.

So, using this philosophy, who do you think is the best bet for us. I'd say Martinez, but i think if we get anyone from Bilbao it will be Muniain who they would be more willing to let go than they're talismanic duo of Llorente and Martinez.

i have to laugh at some people on here. The usua comments of carrick isn't good enough. He's been one of the stand out performers this season along with scholes, valencia and evans. Its more a case of not having the right partners with him. I think we'll miss carrick when he eventually leaves. Also on the winger issue. Young isn't a left winger in the traditional giggs like sense and i think we do lack that. I'd use young on the left as cover and on the right as cover. I think he'd be very good on the right. I'd also use him more behind rooney like england do. I would bring in a left footed winger and i'd also have to say that nani may have to depart. Possibly anderson as well. Also makes me laugh the number of sell hernandez comments i'm seeing. Scores twenty in his first season. Has an injury disrupted second season and still makes double figures but you still want him gone? Catch yourselves on. Think we need a top striker to cover for rooney's losses of form he has or if he gets chopped. Not sure who. I would sound drogba out but think he'd want too much money. Doubt we'd get the likes of any of the madrid or napoli forwards. Needs to be experienced though we have enough young ones but berbatov and owen leaving leaves us short on experience.

its funny reading your best teams of the prem-years , while we all can pick our own players too much , even utd fans , or most of you should know a few things-
dennis, steady eddy, irwin , good player but lacks attacking ability
ryan , forrest gump , giggs ,upto until he was 30 odd he just ran fast , until he discovered he had a brain.
eric , oddball , cantona , good player but when man marked was never in a game , also a flop at international and european level football.

i have a sneaky feeling that we might go for a double Colombian purchase in the summer of james rodriguez and luis Muriel both good young players with great potential but most importantly both are very quick and with fergie saying he wanted to add pace to the team i don't think he could do much better than these two, wouldn't cost the earth should be able to get them both for 25 mill and have enough money left over for another big signing as well maybe Hazard, Erickson!
