Today's result was pretty disappointing but we've got to move on now and win the next game! Chelsea are a hard team to break down and they play for the draw against big teams with the chance they might just snatch a goal. With the injuries to our team we hadn't got our strongest team out and had to play some players out of position again. However we still had more shots, more corners and we had a massive amount of the possession so it wasn't too bad. All we really need in the summer is a central defender to lead the line. A midfielder to eventually replace carrick, and a striker to provide back up for Rooney. All of the calls for a right back and a winger aren't really needed with us having toni v, McNair and Rafael available at right back and young, mata, januzaj, di Maria and the return of nani all available on the wings. I would be ecstatic if we signed hummels, Pogba/veratti/koke in our midfield and Dybala/Ings upfront or even depay to play as a striker

First off, credit where its due Chelsea defended today very well and showed why this season they will be title winners.

I was very much looking forward to see what Mourinho would do to deal with the Fellani threat and by placing Zouma on him really did stop him by and large, he made it 10 vs 10 first and then picked his team.

Second, credit has to be to our lads, injuries considering they played well and the replacements seemed to settle in with our new found form well.

Shaw was great today and looks destined to be our long term LB even though Blind has done brilliantly in that role.

Smalling again had another very good game albeit with very little defending to do but his intercepting of the ball and reading of the game was very good allowing us to keep winning back a ball Chelsea seemingly set up to not have.

Paddy McNair really could be a great little squad player for us at least. He is versatile and actually a very good user of the ball.

I was worried about the Hazard effect on Valencia or when he started running from deep from behind the ball and we dealt with that except once! And that's all these world class players need, 1 chance and they will punish you and he did.

Mata was very much nullified attacking wise with Herrera being forced to be the dominate experienced CM in place of Carrick thus he could not link up freely as much as he has been allowed to do recently, add to that Azpil.?.?. is a top notch full back as well it was always going to be tough, but he stuck at his role well enough.

Rooney was poor today, playing CM u need to have a footballing brain and Rooney seems to play off instinct more. His concentration I have a real problem with in that role. Up top you can get away with taking your eye of the ball thus having poor control or losing the ball, in the center u can't simple as that.
Striker is his position and one he plays very well and should stay in imo.

Falcoa looked so low on confidence it was painful to watch at times. But needs must and he was asked to do a role today and in the large he did that. He got himself around and put in a shift but he is by no means a player we should keep for the money we would have to pay. Shame as when we signed him I thought he would be amazing and effectively he has just replaced Welbeck goals wise and effectiveness wise.

We played well today and we should be as happy as we can with a loss. Positives can be took and this finally now shows that our recent form and results are no fluke, the SQUAD has got it now, they know the 'philosophy' and are now executing it consistently. Credit to LVG.

If we can play the next window right and get the correct players in and ship out the players not needed we could have a very good squad of players.

Hard not to feel a bit down after a loss though but was this a game we had as a win? No, doesn't mean we couldn't win and not expect to but a loss away to Chelsea is hardly a shock.

Mourinho's selection clearly showed he was worried today, we had many things in our favor and then the injuries came at a crucial point unfortunately. With all the pressure being put on Chelsea we needed our top players fit.
But Mourinho does not lose these games the same game plan would of played out if it was 0-0 after 89mins. He knows what he needs to do to reach his objective.

However I do wonder how the Chelsea fans might feel after a few years of this style. But for now I bet there on cloud nine and rightly so, good luck to them.

chris you wonder how chelsea fans will feel after a few years of this style ? we will still be on cloud 9 , if were winning the league , jose is a genius at what he does , he sets up the team to do what is needed at the time, we have all watched utd progress over the last few weeks but it doesn't take a genius to work it out what was happning , long balls to fellani ,today big zouma was told to do a job on him and that is what he did ,i watched utd win title after title and belive me it wasnt allways pretty football , the team does whatever needs done to get over the line.

Agree1 Disagree8

19 Apr 2015 00:01:37
I agree mate, my point is more saying I wonder how u will feel after maybe a few years when u don't win the title with that style.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Apr 2015 00:41:23
Do long balls give you 70% possession? Very naive to think that's all it's about. All our improved performances have come from long balls to Fellaini. Had we took our chances today you could have lost by 2/3. The tide is turning pal. You wait and see

Agree5 Disagree1

19 Apr 2015 02:21:28
Belfast,

I think what chris is getting at is the style of play, defending at home and allowing the opposition to have so much of the ball, then falling to the floor in the last 10 minutes wasting time and then making two seperate subs in added time (which inexplicably the time does not get added on for, but don't get me started on timekeeping again).

United fans would be satisfied with winning the league that way for one season but many would be disappointed with the style of play that chelsea play despite them winning the league if it contined year after year.

Agree6 Disagree2

19 Apr 2015 04:41:58
people need to watch some of the footy chelsea have played over the full season not just the last few games.
at the moment it just about picking up points for chelsea.
it something we done under fergy all the time

Agree4 Disagree1

19 Apr 2015 08:33:12
You're right, jred. I agree that the last couple of games it hasn't been pretty. But we've also played some exceptional football at times where we were almost unplayable. I suspect that most of the important players are a bit worn out because there hasn't been much rotation this season. You just need to watch Matic these days, he's not the same beast in the middle as he was earlier this season.
Like you said, jred, it's about picking up points now for us. You guys will definitely be better next year and certainly challenging for the title (probably being favourites to win it IMO) but we will also improve. That's what the game is all about :-)

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Apr 2015 10:31:16
Fabregas is shattered and Costa is missing. Add those two and we would see a totally different Chelsea. I have watched Fabregas closely over the past month (he apparently stops in the New Year most seasons) and he has been very poor, he scored the winner the other day against QPR but did nothing else all game, giving the ball away a lot. Chelsea are just scrapping to the end of the season with some very tired legs.

I think they will be for the taking next season, especially with Terry a year older.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not so sure it will be that simple. Terry will not be playing as often next season, and I rather expect some changes to the team over the summer.}

19 Apr 2015 12:19:31
listen guys you played well yesterday but you are kidding yourselves if you think you came & dominated us?? We let you dominate the ball & set up to counter attack, van gaal would of done the same if you was in that position & i'm pretty sure you would accept it every single year if you needed the points to win the title just as any other team would! we played our best at the start when everyone was fresh, now it's about getting the job done & I don't really care how we win the league as long as we do, Jackson will agree! United will be stronger next season but so will everybody else so might be a 4 or 5 horse race until the end, when Sir Alex was in charge he had fergie time to get you out of tight spots & never heard any united fans complain about that so time wasting is a part of any game when you need points

Agree4 Disagree0

19 Apr 2015 12:24:17
I agree ed I think they will strengthen again and they seem to be able to identify exactly what they need to make them stronger.

As far as we are concerned the signs are very good there seems to be a cohesion and doggedness about the team and I also think we will strengthen in the summer( for me a holding midfielder is absolute top priority) and we will be a lot closer to them next season.

I'm also really looking forward to seeing this team in Europe hopefully we make champions league and have a right good crack at it.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Apr 2015 21:42:26
Hi Guys

I thought we played well today and we were very unlucky not to get a point.
At the start of the season I was really pleased we got Falcao now I'll be pleased when he has gone.He missed a guilt edged chance and overall was poor.We still have some work to do to secure a top 4 finish but I think the future looks bright.
A good transfer window and I think we will be right in the mix again next season.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

18 Apr 2015 21:24:03
We may have not got the points today, but what a performane, we dominated and on another day we would of won. But credit to chelsea, there a solid unit and deserve the title this year. But the good news is with the right signings we could be right up there next year. LVG is taking us back to the glory days. we have been screaming for defenders all season, but smalling, mcnair, shaw, valencia all looked solid, we can be proud of our team tonight

Believable5 Unbelievable0

18 Apr 2015 20:31:53
RvP may not be the striker he once was but he definitely holds the ball well and his passing is pretty good. Falcao was embarrassing, a 12 year old girl could've held the ball for longer.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

18 Apr 2015 20:54:08
Terry Cahill and magic are a match for any striker playing up top on his own.

If rvp had of started he would be getting slated and everyone would be shouting for falcao to start

Agree5 Disagree2

18 Apr 2015 21:31:21
Service was shocking. Unfortunately the game was very much like our games pre Spurs. Obviously our injuries took away the strategy and we resorted to what we were doing all season.

I am not annoyed with LVG though, just disappointed we couldn't beat a very defensive Chelsea.

Any striker in world football would have looked poor for us today.

Agree1 Disagree6

18 Apr 2015 21:39:05
jred so are you saying whenever Falcao got the ball Terry, Cahill and Matic all the pounced on him?

Whenever he got the ball he had 1 player on his back it was either Terry or Cahill but not both and definitely not three.

Now I am not saying that he shouldve left Terry for dead and scored a goal but he failed to hold the ball for more than 3 seconds while having only 1 player on his back. I think in that aspect RvP would've been better

Agree3 Disagree0

18 Apr 2015 22:01:21
He was isolated , with no space it was easy for any 1 of them 3 to get tight to him.
I also think them 3 as a unit are excellent , especially when there just marking one person

Agree1 Disagree1

18 Apr 2015 23:11:17
Falcao was not awful today, he done his job.
He was asked to occupy the defense and did so. let's not cain him to hard.

Agree10 Disagree0

19 Apr 2015 18:56:47
Beast you're such a drama queen sometimes! Everyone of our stats were superior to Chelsea's except the most important one, the scoreline. Honestly don't see how you think we went back to pre Spurs game way of playing.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Apr 2015 20:24:08
I think United deserve some praise today. Clearly the better team which is something I could not have said often earlier in the season. We played some nice stuff and if we continue to believe in ourselves will surely improve further next season. No mass changes, just two or three in the right areas.

Believable7 Unbelievable2

18 Apr 2015 20:19:07

Forgot to give McNair a mention in my earlier post, great effort by the lad. Think he will be pushing for a regular start in the not too distant future. CB's for next season. Smalling, Hummels, McNair, Blackett (possibly loaned) and Rojo. Evans and Jones sold.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

18 Apr 2015 20:48:53
Sorry but that is absolute rubbish. McNair will only ever be used as the final option, even then I'd rather have carrick. Jones won't be sold just yet.

Agree0 Disagree4

18 Apr 2015 21:00:41
So 1 cb coming in and 2 sold when we were a bit thin today and more games and CL football next season? Thought Jones played well last week and Evans has been a consistently good before. I think people are far too rash to be giving people the boot out of our club When we are needing a bigger squad anyway.

Agree2 Disagree2

19 Apr 2015 10:26:08
Supasub. Fair comment but 5 cb's for 2 positions should be enough if Blackett stays. Jones is just not good enough. King cantona, have you been watching the same player, McNair has great potential , to step in away to Chelsea was brilliant. But hold on, let's hamper his development and play an ageing midfielder in there instead. Really !!!!!

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Apr 2015 20:02:47
Very disappointed with Herrera's dive late on. Other than that it was a decent display from most of the lads.Rooney is not a midfielder and Falcao will most definitely not be here next season.

I was very impressed with Shaw and his pace while he was on the pitch. Valencia even looked at threat going forward.

Chelsea are most definitely not a team I could watch week in week out. 29% and spent most of the time in there own half. Very disappointing from the soon to be champions

New signings in midfield are a must.

Believable2 Unbelievable6

18 Apr 2015 23:13:48
I know what u mean but for now they will be lifting the title come may and i'm sure will forget the football they played to get it.

The real questions will come when they are not winning, then we will how the fans feel.

But for now they will be happy as we would if it was us.

Agree2 Disagree2

18 Apr 2015 19:58:56
Yet again Carrick a big loss, allows Herrera to push on and link with Mata etc, and of course would have meant Rooney up top where sadly Falcao was ineffective once again .
Good to see Shaw do well, he'll be much better next season

Believable5 Unbelievable3

18 Apr 2015 19:57:07
We need two world class midfield players.

I don't know why Shaw was subbed?
he is good, him and di maria in last 10 minutes can atleast put more crosses in the box.Blackett was totally without any clue what to do.
why not bring in rafael for Valencia instead in the last 10 minutes?

Rooney is great when he plays behind the striker. He is not Scholes or even Carrick for that matter.

Believable3 Unbelievable5

18 Apr 2015 23:15:07
Shaw i'm sure :) was always not going to last the full 90, the lad has just been rushed back from injury.

18 Apr 2015 19:45:45
Very nice game. Controlled game fully with half a dozen key player out injured and best player Rooney again in midfield.
Very positive game. Just a few signings to develop squad for providing enough depth, falcao and Rvp gone probably and we will chellage for title next year. Top 4 is a total certain. So that's all going good.
I am glad that our downfall only lasted 1 season unlike scoucsers. who are still waiting for their year after 20 years.
Great work by LVG or Giggs.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

18 Apr 2015 19:44:19
Very impressed with almost every player today considering the injuries. Shaw has given LVG something to think about. Smalling was brilliant, even Toni took people on. Very disappointed in Di Maria when he came on. I know its hard to get into the game but looks too lightweight and gives ball away too much. Falcao Garbage. Overall, impressed apart from the killer ball and finish to match. One more thing, Drogba is a rat !

Believable3 Unbelievable4

18 Apr 2015 19:42:21
I know sometimes you have to win ugly, and the Mourinhistas will be shouting about what a genius he is, and winning is everything, but, IMO, 29% possession at home, for champions elect, is a terrible indictment of the style of football he advocates.

As for us? Still falling just a bit short, but if we carry on like this, then next season should fill us with a fair bit of hope.

Believable7 Unbelievable2

18 Apr 2015 19:40:55
Excellent performance for me. We played them off the park at times. If Rooney could have taken that early chance I think we would have battered them because they would have had to attack and push men forward.

Everything I said about Jose I take back. Yeah, his teams get results, but they are dog poor to watch.

Not the result we were looking for but we were the better team and given what we were missing we would have had them. With a few additions next year will be a very different story.

Smalling has been great and looks like finally coming into his own.

Anyways onto next week at Goodison, a good result and we can enjoy the last 4 games left.

Well done boys.

Believable4 Unbelievable4

18 Apr 2015 19:42:34
We held our own with them today, the match won't damage our confidence at all. McNair and Shaw were outstanding, after not playing for so long. And I agree about Smalling, he has matured a lot. Valencia still shows at times he is not a natural right back, defensive transition has to be instant, and it wasn't for Hazard's goal. But hard to be critical, it was a very good goal, and we had our chances, esp. Rooney and Falcao each.

I wish Shaw had stayed on, he was a handful going forward, and McNair never settled at all, neither did Januzaj.

A few additions over the summer, and we should be genuine contenders next season.

Agree0 Disagree1

18 Apr 2015 20:39:13
I do agree with Shaw staying on and rate hime very very highly and have preciously said that i believe he will have a big year ned year.

I am not sure what is going on with Janusaj as he made zero contribution and at least with Mata you know there is always that moment of magic.

Anyways i thought smalling, shaw were very good and their goal was a foul on Falcao but not going to complain.

I do agree this Chelsea team is an ugly team and they way they play would never be accepted at OT. I am very confident we would be challenging for the league title next year if this is the standard we have to beat. Prefer Arsenal and Wenger's approach any day and think they will be right up there next year and expect them to beat chelsea in 2 weeks time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney is driving me crazy in midfield, he doesn't make space and ambles around until he had the ball. It is so frustrating and one of the reasons we lack options.

Get him upfront LVG we are back to how we were before Spurs.

18 Apr 2015 19:48:47
Oh for gods same look Carrick and Blind were unavailable, he's also said we need midfield reinforcements which we all know. Today we were at the champions own ground, where they are unbeaten, with 4 big losses in terms of injuries, and have been the better side for most of the game. Also thought it was a foul on Falcoa for their goal. We haven't "gone back" to how we were before spurs at all. We are looking a good side and with an addition or 3 this summer we will be a really good side again. Don't just jump on their back after losing one game.

18 Apr 2015 18:29:45
chelsea have defended the 18 yard box well to be fair .
we seem to be wanting to just play from the wings maybe time to try and get down the middle a bit .
i would get di maria on .

also nice goal by hazard . soon to be best player in the world imo

Believable0 Unbelievable0

18 Apr 2015 18:24:31
Whilst he's had a good run this game shows exactly why we need a proper CM in the summer any decent manager will compensate for Fellani which just means we lack creativity when he's taken out of the game like chelsea have done. Unfortunately we don't have a plan B at the moment and after the goal have reverted to passing the ball slowly in our own half. Needed to get an early goal chelsea will just sit deep and hit us on the break, this game is crying out for Di Maria as no one else looks like creating much. Just when LVG was getting some positive feedback he goes and puts our best striker in CM again I hope this isn't signs of things to come when RVP is fully fit.
Falcao needs to go on holiday for me he offers nothing apart from chelsea goals

Believable1 Unbelievable1

18 Apr 2015 19:51:49

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Apr 2015 18:10:44
Chelsea dropping so deep and us just lacking that quality cross or final ball. Perfect for Di Maria give him space and he'll create chances. I'm sorry but Falcao is terrible I hope he never plays another game for us. Typical all the ball with no one to create or score because LVG has gone back to putting Romney in Cm I'm so worried what he will do when RVp is fully fit. McNair has been really good though look sour best CB again

Believable1 Unbelievable3

18 Apr 2015 18:22:26
My major problem is that Fellaini has had the ball 3 or 4 times in great crossing positions and there is nobody to hit because he isn't in there.

Rooney playing the slow high pitched ball to Valencia only for him to cut back (if it reaches him) to then start again - pointless and plays into Chelseas hands for quick breaks.

McNair has been brilliant on the ball.

Wish Young and Shaw would whip in the ball quicker, its all a bit too pedestrian. Shaw looks lightening again, we need to utilise the overlap more and quicker.

Shame as we started well and have dominated the ball, just lack that movement and Rooney needs to be up top, it is just a waste and we have no options when in final third.

18 Apr 2015 18:22:28

yes he is a top player and b een great the past 2 seasons but players can be replaced, there's plenty of quality keepers to replace him with.

100% agree. Great keeper but if he is not set on staying and flicking his eyes at Madrid then sell him and get on with it.

It's games like today against Chelsea where we have players injured that the true UTD spirit will shine through. We've stll got great attacking players at our disposal. A win today could really affect Chelsea's confidence. I'd love LVG to pull a Fergie and Carrick and Blind are able to play. But I don't think that's LVGs style. I hope I'm made to eat those words. Let's give Chelsea the game of their lives

Yep. I don't think its LvG's way either. But would love to be wrong.

Even with our current injury situation, i still think our squad has the quality to give chelsea a real test. This is a free swing for us and the pressure is on chelsea. let's hope for a good game

would you lads settle for a draw tomorrow?, i was thinking a score draw all week until i heard your injury list . i am now thinking a chelsea win, i don't think your makeshift back four will cope with our pace, playing on the break?

{Ed007's Note - Anyone who would settle for a draw is getting an instant yellow card and their e-mail address registered on PPI claim sites! Since when did Man Utd settle for anything less than a win and success? Folk are starting to get Utd mixed up with Arsenal recently, the celebrating/reaction for just qualifying for the CL isn't helping.
The first man gets the oyster - the second man gets the shell..

A draw is not an option, we have to go out there and win if we want to get 2nd place, infact 1st is still not out the question.
United 3-1 win :-)

Being realistic , a draw would be a point gained rather than 2 lost. That doesn't mean we should go there looking for a draw , as I agree United should be looking to win every game.

Eds , you'd better prepare yourselves for the page going into meltdown this evening. If , due to injuries , LvG decides to play Rooney in midfield ,and United don't get a result , there will be plenty of experts ready air there views. After a few half decent performances , there must be a few who are absolutely desperate to come on slate the boss. I can almost smell the anticipation!!

PS. Bond , given my 1st paragraph , my e-mail address is " Mary.Hinge@au-naturel.com" :)

1-2 to us and I think Rojo and one of Carrick or Blind will play in cm. Just a suspicion. Why play for a draw? Lvg wants chelsea to come out and play and not attempt to park the bus a little like at old Trafford as mourinho knows we need the win more than them. Why do you have Chester City on your badge? Are you a Chester supporter or a chelsea supporter?

I think chelsea during the Mourinho Era at home are almost unbeatable and given our unfortunate injury list to key players I would be very happy with a draw.
