Seriously, how the hell does Darron Gibson get on the bench or in the squad at all? If Fergie think he is a better option than Pogba or Morrison to bring on during a game, then you have to wonder what the hell is going on. Pogba and Morrison are both better than Gibson and don't feed me this experience crap either. I can't believe that clubs will be willing to pay money for him.

Jonny Evans has been outstanding against Wolves and QPR. I hope the lad keeps it up and proves his doubters wrong. Rio has been class, and Carrick and Jones have been really superb. Valencia's return to the 1st team is very much welcomed, as Young will need time to settle in. Rooney's return to form means United's return to form.
QPR targeted Evra today, and he is becoming a defensive weak link. After all what's been going on, I think SAF may give him a rest after a difficult game away to Fulham, with 2 home games against Blackburn and Wigan coming up!

Is there only me who wouldnt be happy with buying Gaitan? I havent seen a hell of a lot but that what i have seen isnt very convincing. And do we really need another winger? I know people say he's not really a winger but even so 30mil would be better spent on a proper CM, somebody like Martinez.

A good result today and another great midfield performance by Carrick and Jones.
With Clev on his way back, things looking up.
Read something in the paper that was similar to something i was thinking.
People on here calling for Becks to be brought back, why when we have a better player on the coaching staff.
Why not see if Scholesy will come back for 6 months to help the team out, then hopefully we will go and buy someone like Ozil, Gotze, Sneijder in the summer.
I still think the Ginger Prince can do a job for us and was really sad when he didn't stay for another season.
What do we all think, is it a possibility?

Wow carricks had abt 5 gud games in last 2-3 seasons n we rightly point out that we wud luv him t b the top player we bought frm spurs but overall I thnk he has been an ok squad player 4 us. But he plays realy well in last 3 games n now pple sayin carrick haters eat there words! I hate nobody who wears the red shirt n also don't thnk carrick shud leave but he is not the answer to our midfield probs. I wud luv him t play like he is now 4 rest of t season but I doubt he will? I think we gettin our belief back n end of year games shud keep us right in hunt for when we get injured players back? + a poor arsenal side made city struggle tday n there season will fall apart wen we put them outa fa cup jst like arsenal did wen we knockd them out. A good game to watch
The fulcrum of the team today were Carrick and Jones. Both played well and Carrick has shown that he is the best of what we have in there. Does not mean it is enough to win Champions Leagues but certainly it should put him permanently above Giggs and Park even if he is 30. Good goal Carrick scored today, but his first in 70 games when we need more goals from midfield.
Jones, awesome, RFT described him as a beast and that is not far wrong. Immense presence on the pitch and I felt it was Jones that deserved the MOM not Rooney.
Evans had a better game today however really the QPR level is where Evans is at and if he couldnt cope today then he really needed to be sold immediately. As it is he probably has a use as a cover for left back as well. It is the next level up teams in the Premier league when he struggles.
We were certainly more creative today and worked harder but we have to remember it was QPR
Interesting that Rio is playing regularly and also that he has moved to the left possibly to cover Evra rather than have the Evans Evra combination
Scoring goals again proved an issue, we should have put it in the net far more. On the goal scoring issue I dont believe we have the combinations to score in tight games. Valencia had a good game and it was interesting he crossed rather than cutting back like Young and to some extent Nani have got into a habit of doing. Nani played ok today, looks dangerous but again his final ball lacks conviction and accuracy and that is what is frustrating.
Good result but I suspect Fulham will present a much tougher prospect this week. We still need a CM and a striker that has not changed, will the Glazers deliver is another matter.

Has Carrick finally found his form? He's been playing well the last 4 or 5 games for us.

What is everyone's view of Gaitan as a potential signing? I think he could be a brilliant buy if we were buying him to play out wide in some capacity. He is probably one of the best available left-footed players out there and we could do a lot worse than him. Still not sure how he could fit in a central position but I would be very happy with his signing.

Well if everyone's throwing a name...why not me...
even though it is highly premature to say this at the moment..but i sense its not working well for Nuri Sahin at Real Madrid IMO and maybe him...why not? people talk about sweinstiger (sp) being the best midfielder around and stuff...well guess who effed him in 3 mathes in a row?..if someone watches bundesliga, they might remember Nuri Sahin giving one of the best midfielders a run for his money..i would love him over here and he is gonna be reletively very cheap as Real got him for around 10 mill euros? ..anyways...just an opinion to keep the discussion on
may peace be with you

I hope PSG throw money at Gaitan so we don't get him, yes he's decent, but i'd rather have a european who works harder. The drive in a team is one of the most important factors, if not thee most.

All you Carrick haters are once again shown up to be the fools you are. He gave a great performance of how to work as a holding midfielder who controls the pace of the game. Yes he scored a goal and all of us would like him to see him to score much more but his overall play this season has been excellent and he always makes himself available. Jones once again showed us the beast he has the opportunity to become. Johnny Evans showed us with an open net he could still not head the ball in. Better game from Valencia and Nani. Yes this wasn't great opposition but still some nice touches and we looked to attack which is always positive rather than hold on to a one nil lead. What is the matter with Mad Paddy his head doesn't seem to be on the game? RAINFISHTROMBONE

if SAF were to drop Evra for a few games, hopefully would serve to wake him up a bit, who do you think should be made captain?
with Vidic out would presume Rio will start most if not all remaining fixtures so would be the obvious candidate, if not him i would presume rooney may be awarded the honour but i wouldn't want him to have it. Not including his actions whilst re-negotiating his contract (for what ever reason you choose to believe) i think it would effect his game to much and as his form is only just returning i would not to affect that. therefore if Rio were not to be given the armband then i think it should go to Carrick as it wont effect his game and would not only be a sign of gratitude from SAF for his recent form but also for his role in the team which usually goes unrecognised.

Good afternoon Guys
Well that was more like it.The only criticism I have is that we didn't make the most of our host of chances.
There were several outstanding performances but for me Phil Jones was MOTM.Patrice Evra was abysmal but he was the only one who did not perform today.I have to say well done to Johnny Evans and Michael Carrick,2 players I have lambasted recently both played really well.
So to Fulham on Wednesday and another 3 points will be very greatly received.

Great performance today. Everyone except Evra were good.

I hope the "get rid of valencia" brigade with the short term memories has realized that it was just a run of games that he needed to get match fit and back on form, easily one of the best right wingers imo.

Carrick was excellent today. I do not understand why people keep suggesting Rodwell, when Jones has already impressed more in CM than Rodwell has done in his entire Everton career.
Watched Mcarthy yesterday for Wigan, if any player of that type is needed, he should be bought.

Also, Giggs, looks like this should be his last season. I believe he has made this known to SAF, hence the push for Gaitan. I expect Gaitan to be signed, the rumours seem to be coming from credible sources, not seen much of him though.

Interesting about the mentions of Ozil. I would like to think we will bring Gaitan AND Ozil (if he is made available which i doubt tbh). Although, i believe we should first fight it out for Goetze, the boy is special.

Evra needs to go, even he knows that in the back of his head i think.

Its not unrealistic to see Gibbo, Berba, Owen, Diouf, Macheda, possibly the twins gone by the summer.

P.S. Cleverley returning early would be a nice Christmas present.

Think back, a few weeks ago it was all doom and gloom. Defeated by a 1st division team in the league cup, knocked out the champions league at the group stages and with loads of 1st teamers out injury etc it looked like a miserable
season but hey, haven't they reacted well. I know the 2 teams ain't world class but we have played more like the team but we used to be. Even evans/carrick/rio have stepped up and raised their game and jones/rooney and smalling have looked really strong. Only 1 downside has been evra, who i have long admired but he has looked out of his depth at times.

I take my hats off to you boys, even in the face of defeat you won't lie down.

Welcome back man utd! You have been missed...
Now lets start by valencia, you can see we have an engine in our starting 11 more creative than any of our midfielders. Good passing outstanding strength and incredible pace. He made shawn right philipps look slow and he was able to beat any player in front of him with a combination of strength and pace. One of our best players today.
Carrick is outstanding. its a shame that it took him to score a wonderful effort to be considered as a good player but at least the critics have been made dum.
Rooney is worldclass when he wants to be weather you like it or not
Jones is a prodidy. he is younger than neymar and thiago alcantara but he is proving himself to be as mature as any other player on the pitch. This guy is a future worldclass centreback.
Smalling made shawn right p. look dum. This guy doesnt stand out for his pace but still a future worlclass defender hopefully.
Nani is a great player but his inconsistency is really lame but when he is having his day probably the most dangerous man on the field.
Rio can still offer more evans hopefully will raise his game. Had 2 goalscoring opportunities but more importantly he made a tackle!
Evra is past it he is just making too many silly mistakes fabio and raf would be ashamed of doing them.
De gea didnt really contribute so nothing can be said
welbeck could have done better but with a bit of experience will come good. thats it for today
Mick

We could have scored ten today and DDG had just one shot to save. Midfield looks good with Carrick & Jones. Cleverley & Anderson soon to return. I am not saying we do not need a top midfielder, just that we will survive until we can bring one in. Only weak link in the side today was Patrice, Giggs gave the ball away nearly every time when he came on too, but other than that we were very good.

The more that i see of Jones in midfield the more i want him to remain in midfield.

He has composure, he is influential makes runs and is a box to box player with skill. He also looks like he is capable of scoring goals something that has been lacking in from midfield.

Evans has played very well today along with Carrick Rio its amazing that the two CB's have swapped positions and are playing loads better. Maybe Evans has got a twin brother playing instead of him today.

Also i can see why Pogba wasn't named on the bench as this isn't the game for him to come off the bench, although hopefully we will see him soon.

He is too good for the reserves and needs to be playing higher standrad of football to develop him further and take him to the next level.

Great to see us playing well, Evra is really worrying though, for me he has to go. I've always supported, even recently, but if we were playing a Bayern Munich with Ribery, Robben attacking him, he would be beaten every time. So thats an area thats needed, and i'm not convinced that Alba is the man either, very similar to Fabio. A solid Eastern European would be nice to see, like Fuchs or Schmelzer.

Midfield wise we're looking really good and Valencia has been excellent, i don't see why people want to get rid of him. Id rather Young go than Valencia. Would like to see another left footed player in their though, like Bale (unlikely i know).

I really don't know how things in the middle will go this January, something just doesn't ring true about Gaitan, i'm not sure why but it doesn't seem to make sense. Rodwell i reckon will come in for 20 million and that will be about it. For me, if the Ozil stuff is true then I hope he has a shocking season, i'd be glad to wait until summer to sign someone of his quality. Being German he does work hard and also has great technical skill, he is also left footed so signing him would be like signing a left winger and a central midfielder.

Up top, one more is needed, Welbeck does look a good package though, Berbatov and Owen won't be around much. I think this could be Berbatov's last couple of weeks at United, Owen will cling on until summer.

My perfect january would be Torres and Rodwell for about 40 million, i'd be very happy with that.

Ed001 you say there's a chance the twins could get sold for the right price. I think it would be a shame as their great little players but i agree just far too injury prone. But then that puts us in the market for full backs then. I can't really see who we'd go for. Don't think we'd need a back up left back as we have fryers. And i agree evra is on the slide but i can't see an outstanding candidate to replace him. Smalling and jones can cover right back but we'd need a specialist really and again there's no one out there screaming buy me. But if twins do go then we could be looking at two full backs, a centre back maybe, two midfielders, a winger maybe and a striker. I can't see us bringing all that in in one or two windows. Mort {Ed001's Note - you have been closely monitoring the Marseille right back, there has been the Celtic left back and numerous others have been checked out. There has been a definite search for full backs. Conceicao was wanted etc etc. I would be shocked if one didn't arrive in the summer, even two.}

Marky Mark.........................AHHH Mr Mark it doesn't take long to drag you Glazer supporters out of the woodwork. The same boring rubbish that you say I am spouting about is the rubbish that is having a horrendous effect on our club. Lets face it, in the last 5 years teams like Stoke have had a bigger net spend than us. Yes that is right Stoke. I know that there are supporters who don't care what happens in the ownership of our club as long as we win on the pitch. But do any of you seriously believe we will continue to win on the pitch if we don't invest properly in the playing squad. I know that there is nothing the Glazers would like more than if people like me would shut up and not put the spot light on them. But Mr Mark if you are happy with the amount of money they have taken out of the club and the restrictions they are putting on Fergie (Not what he says publicly but privately) Then carry on criticising me rather than the Glazers. I for one will carry on till we cut the cancer out. RAINFISHTROMBONE

Question for Ed001 if he is about? You thought it was strange that we kept all three wingers this summer, do you think that if we did buy Gaitan that one must go? Yes Gaitan will be playing in the centre, but why would a squad need four wingers? Five if we include Cleverley who can play there, then we have Morrison & Brady from the youth. Rafael & Fabio who have played there? Do you agree that Valencia or Nani will be surplus to requirements and with Valencia playing in the Carling cup with the likes of Berbatov, Diouf, Kiko & Gibson, is he the most likely to be sold? He is 27, he had a bad break, he is not taking on players and he is not anywhere near the level of Nani.

What do you think? It's always good to get some outside opinion. Thanks.

Sydney! {Ed001's Note - well Nani was available last summer, but he was not interested in leaving, I doubt Fergie would force him out, he likes players who want to play for the club. I think 4 is about right, you need cover, especially as one can cover the off the striker position. What I said was that I was surprised you bought Young, purely because he is clearly not good enough for United. He is also very cowardly, something Fergie has always hated, he likes his players to stand up and be counted. Whereas Young goes into hiding when things get tough.}

Hi Guys, i just wanted to post something on here and see what you guys think. I'm a Chelsea fan and have thought of a potential signing for you, i just don't know if i'm being completely mad or if i have stumbled upon something quite brilliant. As United fans i thought you could give me some feedback.

Right, so........ Darren Fletcher is out for an indefinite period of time due to health issues. Now we know that SAF has a history of making peculiar/surprising signings that at first make you question them, then you start to think about them a bit and you realize just what shrewd signings they are. I'm talking about Henrik Larson and Michael Owen. With you guys looking for a replacement for some time whilst Fletcher is out. I think a great signing for you would be to re-sign David Beckham! Think about it! SAF puts him on the same type of deal as Michael Owen, some sort of pay as you play or 6 month deal. He brings an extra body to your midfield that will be missing whilst Fletcher is out. He brings invaluable experience that you can't buy from anyone else. He loves United and the passion he would show and the desire he would play with would rub off on every other player. He is the ultimate professional, the example he would set for the younger guys you have just starting out now would be invaluable. I've not even mentioned the revenue he would generate, it would be arguably the most exciting signing in the last decade, and im not exaggerating! Imagine, 'David Beckham returns!', every fan in England would be excited! And the best one i think is that it would put the blue half back in their place, no matter how many players they sign they could not get a signing that could generate as much excitement as that. I just honestly can not think of 'cons' if he was to re-sign? And if there is any then i don't think they would even come close to matching the 'pros'!

As i said though, i don't know if i'm being completely mad or if i have stumbled upon something brilliant!?

I can only think this is how Darwin felt when he discovered Evolution. Albeit this is bigger....but still the guy did well there's no denying that ;-)
