A bit of a debate as to who the next captain should be and I have to say that the only real standout candidate is dave the save. He is honestly the only player for the last 3 or 4 years that turns up and gives a good performance every game. People might argue that he isn't very vocal, but does being a great leader mean that you have to to be vocal? I don't think so. You don't have to scream and shout at people to be a great leader. Leading is about setting standards and being a focal point for advice. Actions speak louder than words.

You need to be a captain off the pitch as well.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 May 2018 23:49:13
It takes more than just to turn up to be captain I agree that Dave turns up every week. Someone who is vocal and organases.

Captain needs to motivate and inspire and atm I don't think we have anyone who stands out.

We are lacking leaders. The only one that really talks is smalling.

Herrera would be my choice but he doesn't play every week.

Too immature for me Tony. He gets the club and always puts in a shift but not sure if he can be serious. Love the guy though and he’s changed my opinion of him massively.

On the eve of the FA Cup final I have a foreboding feeling of deja vu.

Just like last season we enter our final game wondering if the ends will justify the means. Our season once again balanced precariously on a single game.

Win and most will be happy with a other trophy to swell our cabinet. A win will go along way in masking a generally arduous, tedious and frustrating season. A win helps to forge a stronger mentality into the squad and provides more evidence to both the players and the fans that Jose methods are successful if not pretty. A win ends the season on a high, provides optimism for next year and we can look forward to the World Cup and summer transfer window safe in the knowledge that Jose has delivered success in consecutive seasons. The experience of winning big games can only bode well for the future and maybe we can dare to believe that if Jose actually gets it right we might just become a force to be reckoned with once again.

A defeat however would have the opposite effect. Nothing to show for a largely joyless campaign littered with sobering defeats and performances. Progress undoubtedly made in terms of points gained and goals scored but stagnant with regard to style or patterns of play. Star names under performing, humbling chastisements for players and fans alike, bizarre statements and self proclamation. It's been a funny old year.

So now our season hangs in the balance. Once last 90 minute examination. One final push for glory. Let's hope Jose does what Jose does best. Gets the job done one way or another.

David de gea said during the week, second isn't good enough for Manchester United, you don't win anything for trophy for that.
He said we have to win the fa cup.
I agree with you Dave.

I remember from the 76 final, back then when you won the cup it was seen as a springboard to a title challenge the following season. It isn’t like that anymore and to be honest was never really true anyway.

Enjoy the day, win is great but a loss is not the end of the world in the great scheme of things. This is ultimately a one off, just relax and enjoy, I have seen us win and lose, FA Cups on TV and stood/ sat at Wembley. Don’t read too much into it.

Anyway I'll be down there tomorrow supporting the boys.

19 May 2018 00:03:00
Red Man, I would have thought as a man of a certain vintage, you would appreciate the importance of the FA Cup, rather than being quite blasé about it. Seems like someone's downplaying the importance just in case José comes up short. Personally, I think we'll stuff them. Worst Chelsea team in years, with obvious schisms in the team, and between the players and the manager. If we can't win tomorrow, there's something wrong. I can't wait. Love FA Cup Final day.

Good post by the way, DLIB.

Nou

As a man of “certain vintage” as you put it (not been referred to like that before) I appreciate the FA Cup for the great competition it is. Make no mistake I want to win, winning is what it is all about and will be gutted if we lose, however over the many years of supporting it brings perspective. If the team comes up short it doesn’t mean the end of the club just we start aiming for next season. If we win it doesn’t automatically mean a title challenge, in case you forgot we have sacked two managers after winning it so why would I be “downplaying it” in case we lose?

Great debate, I love the Cup but it does seem to have lost some lustre in recent years. Semi finals at Wembley doesn’t work for me either. Let’s hope it’s a great game and we play with freedom. If we do, I think we will do them.

Agree1 Disagree1

18 May 2018 16:55:09
Sent it too early i should also add.

Pogba could be given the captaincy to kickatart his career and he does like the limelight so we couldtl test the waters with him.

Believable1 Unbelievable6

18 May 2018 17:24:35
Disagree with this one Singh - Pogba should focus harder on his own game (or at least look like he is), no way we should complicate matters by having him 'help' others with theirs. He has the ability to be a true great, but his mind seems elsewhere when he plays and that is not captain material in my book.

I believe captaincy is earned and should be held by somebody with maturity, intellect and most importantly a positive example to everybody around the place.

We do lack leaders for sure, but handing it to Pogba at the moment could do more damage than good and frankly makes a mockery of something that should be respected.

Agree5 Disagree0

18 May 2018 18:03:34
Pogba ain’t gotten to grips with pressure of his price tag and what it takes to play for United, adding more pressure of captaincy will worsen his displays I fear, as I did earlier, David De Gea the only worthy candidate.

Agree3 Disagree0

18 May 2018 20:40:40
I agree Beast i don't trust Pogba at all. The only reason i suggested him is because it might give him kick up the ass and want to work hard for the team otherwise i would never suggest Pogba to wear the armband.

Agree0 Disagree2

18 May 2018 21:30:05
I can see where you are coming from Singh in that perhaps giving pogba responsibility will spur him on to the next level. But I wouldn’t give it to him. Serious lack of leadership at the club, and the so called senior players (jones, smalling, Valencia) Aren’t good enough to be starting let alone captain. Unfortunately Jose thinks differently. I can see why he is looking to buy some experienced, older players because we are lacking that at the moment. Someone to pull the youngsters and the inconsistent ones up when we are coasting through a game. If Alderweireld signs I would consider him as captain as he has done it for spurs and Belgium before. Normally against giving a potential new player the captain’s armband but he would be my choice if he came in. Otherwise it’s De Gea, matic Lukaku in that order. Wildcards are bailly (if he can stay fit) or lindelof who has showed great maturity when he has played of late. The latter will obviously not happen but I like my cbs as captain.

Agree0 Disagree2

18 May 2018 21:48:44
There is only 1 man for the job and that dave the save. He is honestly the only player in the squad that actually deserves it. he's the only one that turns up every week.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 May 2018 16:54:02
I think Bfro Mentiones today Pogba should be our future captain or shoukd be given the chance.

Who do you guys reckons should our next captain be?

I would go for Matic or De Gea. The only reqson i'd say Pogba as he is a midfielder and a captain should be a midfielder so she sees the whole game from the middle.

He is the only.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

18 May 2018 17:01:20
At present Valencia and Smalling are best choice for captain. Pogba needs to show consistency before getting responsibility, Matic isn’t vocal enough, and I don’t think keepers work as captains unless there’s leaders outfield too.

Agree1 Disagree1

18 May 2018 18:10:07
Smalling? Hope he’s up the road with a few others who are stealing a living as a united player. In general and not on about you Danny but I think we as fans have accepted mediocrity last few years and are deluding ourselves into thinking its top class, Smalling being a good example, not good enough for this club I’m afraid.

Agree0 Disagree4

18 May 2018 18:19:39
Matic isn't vocal enough and Valencia is.

Smalling and Valencia are not the best candidates at present Herrera and Lukaku are imo.

The main point though which we all agree with is we lack leaders and if Alderweireld where to arrive I would make him captain.

Agree2 Disagree0

18 May 2018 18:21:39
He has become first choice for Jose. Personally think he’s always an accident waiting to happen, but the manager likes him, a senior player, and he’s vocal on the pitch. The truth is that we don’t have many leaders in the squad.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 May 2018 18:41:02
Valencia is the longest serving player. It gives an idea of how lacking we are in leaders when seniority is the defining criteria. Lukaku is a potential captain, but only in first season with us. Herrera isn’t first choice, and has a year on his contract, so not an ideal candidate.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 May 2018 20:38:53
Tough choice then guys . There isn't anyone that deserves the armband apart from De Gea to be honest but he isn't very vocal .

Valencia is a good shout if he plays majority of the games. If we domt sign a right back then i think it would be him that would be given the armband.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 May 2018 22:45:06

Agree1 Disagree0

18 May 2018 15:47:23
Laugh all you want but if Wilshere is available on a free then I would take him on a free. He is absolute quality, injuries are an issue but the quality he adds when fit is incredible.

I'm sure Jones would appreciate the company in the medical room.

Agree3 Disagree1

18 May 2018 16:06:49
In a heartbeat, always looks forward, prepared to risk a pass, passionate and battles. Obviously injury issues, but so many top players do have and he could be great.

I'm amazed Southgate has opted for others instead of him, big mistake.

Agree3 Disagree1

18 May 2018 16:46:13
He would go on one too many mazy runs, holding onto the ball too long, ending up getting injured or dispossessed leading to a goal.

Either scenario would lead to a bust up with mourinho and we will end up having to look for a replacement in 6 months.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 May 2018 17:02:45
Nope, average player who doesn’t look after himself. Has not developed since he was a teen. Would take Ramsey straight away. Perfect midfield player for a Jose system.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 May 2018 17:03:24
If he can keep fit and on a free I would say yes. But his injury record speaks for itself. There are better options out there that we should and will be looking at. Would much rather see someone like fosu mensah or pereira get a chance in midfield rather than signing Wilshere.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 May 2018 17:11:22
I think he us a really good player. Always plays with his head up looking forward. He has that bit of nastiness and bite too. I don't think he would clash with jose I think jose would like his attitude on the pitch. Yes he has had bad injuries and by all accounts doesn't lead as clean a life as he ought but despite the obvious high wage with no fee its really low risk imo and he is better than some of our current options by a mile and would add something different. I like him agree with beast and ajh
All that said I've never seen us linked with him and I fully expect him to stay at arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree1

18 May 2018 17:14:04
Beast smalling and Wilshire imo are the 2 players I felt would have improved the squad in areas where the squad is very weak. Southgate has made some big calls. Perhaps it's a personality thing who knows.

I still don't understand these words of 'entertaining', " he told a news conference. "You think 6-0 is entertaining? I don't think so. "I think entertaining is emotion until the end, open result until the end, everybody on their seats until the end, both dugouts nervous and tense with the unpredictability of the result.
"That, for me as a football lover, that's entertaining. So, I think it's going to be entertaining. "

So we can kiss goodbye to any real entertainment then. Play for 1-0 sit back and defend. l.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

18 May 2018 16:03:02
I get what he means. The tense edgy scrape it out games can be better than a rout that just turns into a training exhibition. i'd like to see us smash a few more teams though like we were in September and August.

8-2 v arsenal, 6-2 fenerbahce, 7-1 v Blackburn, 9-0 v Ipswich, 8-1 v forest. Good job Jose won't make us watch such displays again what snoozers they were nothing like that on the edge of your seat 0-0 we had with West ham, real corcker.

Well anyway, I for one can't wait for tomorrow, it's going to be a long day, setting off early as I think London will be busy with some wedding or something, but hopefully we bring back the trophy, I don't care what time I get home if we win. Anybody else going to Wembley tomorrow?
