Sydney ,

I constantly see you predicting united will get Alba , I think Alba is pretty much Barcelona bound , Abidal is 32 and nearing the end of his career.

Personally, I feel our squad is a strobg one, and only needs 3 additions.

I would like SAF to sign the following players...

Javi Martinez - Athletic Bilbao
Wesley Sneijder - Inter Milan
Neymar - Santos

Yes it would cost a lot of money, but spending pays off, and these 3 players would turn Man United into a CL challenger once again imo.

I know most of you guys are praying to see Gaitan move, but I really hope he stays in Benfica.

The last thing we need is a winger o can play as a "AM" too. For what? We need CM and world class not an experimental player who can be adapted. Rather to Try Ericksen or Hazard maybe. It just my humble opinion. 30mil for Gaitan is a waste of money like always...

We should be in for Nathaniel Clyne of Crystal Palace. He looks a talent and a half. Played well against us when we played them in the cup, was superb tonight against Birmingham. Future England RB in the making if ever I've seen one.

I don't know about anyone else, but if Gaitan is signed in the summer as the answer to the midfield problems then I'll be annoyed. If he does arrive then it confirms, for me at least, that United are not willing/not allowed to dish out the big bucks to the best players. Even if his hypothetical transfer fee is £30m, I'd imagine Gaitan can't be on much more than £50k-a-week at Benfica, and that's what appeals to the current money men at United. The club's inability to offer the going rate to the top players has and will continue to hurt SAF's chances of building another great side.

Benzema in 2009 - SAF was always a huge admirer of his and in that summer, it looked like he would get him. Why, after United offered the same amount of money to Lyon as Real Madrid did, was Madrid the "only club for him"?

Ozil in 2010 - Again, another player that everyone knew SAF liked, and again, another player that Real Madrid snapped up. Before the World Cup, Ozil openly talked about how great Barcelona were and how he'd like to play for them, but that didn't stop him taking Madrid's offer over everyone else's. Why?

Villa in 2010 - Token bid for a player who's always wanted to remain in Spain.

Sneijder, last summer - He was happy to move to United if the money was right. He said that the move was possible. And he waited until 22:30 on deadline day to confirm that he'd be staying with Inter. Whether or not you think Sneijder was worth what he was asking for is irrelevant. If they had coughed up the cash, WS would be a United player at the moment.

Nasri, last summer - The most obvious example of United losing out on a player because of wages. He was all set to join before City offered him more.

Modric, last summer - Jamie Redknapp takes every opportunity to tell us that Chelsea AND United wanted Modric. But Modric, the man who moved across Europe to join Spurs, declared that he'd like to join Chelsea and only Chelsea because he was "settled in London". I guess it had nothing to do with the oligarch's money...

Rooney, 2010 - You'd have to be very naive to think that one day Rooney just decided that he'd like a change of scenery and so he'd be leaving United. His wishes to be let go would not have come as a shock to SAF. Rooney was obviously told after months of contract negotiations that he wasn't going to get the £170k-a-week (or whatever figure it was) that he wanted. He'll never be forgiven for the way he went about getting his pay raise, but we should ask why it took a threat to join City, for him to finally get what he wanted.

I'm sure someone will say that a player has to WANT to join United. But the reason top players don't want to join us is because they know they'll get more money elsewhere. The Manchester nightlife was good enough for Nasri, Clichy, K.Toure to leave London. And the Manchester weather was good enough for Aguero, Silva and Y.Toure to leave sunny Spain. Look at United's purchases over the last three years: Valencia, Obertan, Owen, Smalling, Hernandez, Bebe, De Gea, Young, Jones. What do they all have in commen? They were all signed on low wages. And if Gaitan joined, he'd be another one on this list. There's nothing wrong with finding a hidden gem or promoting from within, but every now and then, a club like Manchester United has to bring in a player who can hit the ground running, especially when someone of Scholes' stature has just retired. A world class player needs to be paid the big wages and at the moment, I fear they're not going to get that at United.

I'd rather have Shaqiri than Gaitan and think we shoul try our hand at Higuain if RM sign Neymar.

Just to clear the "gaitan winger thing" his natural position is attacking midfielder but can obviously operate as winger as he does for benfica. Just check out his playing days at boca juniors he will be good for our team (if the rumours are true)

I thought Phil Jones looked class yesterday and with Tom Cleverley just a few weeks away from being fit, we may just have a midfield strong enough to get us through to season end, more so if Pogba gets some game time. Jones has the same kind of midfield role that Yaya Toure has for City and given time, think he would have a similar impact, more so if he has Cleverly at his side. Certainly, yesterday was a big improvement upon recent months and we now need to build upon it.

Interesting to see all the January rumours starting to circulate. To me, given up reading them as Fergie always keeps his cards close to his chest. However, I think with Vidic's demise, the Cahill story may have some foundation. Certainly a Fergie type target, young, English and can play in a few positions, so be interesting to see what evolves. Living in Lancashire will also help.

Most importantly, heres to 3 points at Fulham on Wednesday.

Merry xmas to all Reds.

Bit like what moon did this summer, reply who you think we will sign this January and I will write them down and then we can see who was correct. Please only reply if you think we will sign players. Cheers, Gilly.

Why is everybody saying push Rooney up top on his own? Have you not seen how stressed he gets? Even more so when isolated. Rooney always plays better with another striker. Brilliant partnership with Hernandez and starting to form quite a formidable one with Welbeck. We should only be playing 3 in middle against teams like Barca and RM.

Does anyone think that United coach Rene Muelensteen has purposely used this latest Eriksen story as a diversion to keep the spotlight off of the Gaitan situation? Also what do the lads make of Gaitan's agent confirming what Ed002 has said about United holding informal talks with Benfica?

Pogba has come out and said that he wants to become a first team regular at United.

He spoke about how he's enjoying life at OT and how happy he was that he made his debut agaisnt leeds.

Hopefully when we play Wigan and Blackburn he may get 15 mins in each game seeing though these teams are struggling in the league. Albeit it will depend on the score.

An interesting perspective on the possible Gaitan signing; could this see the introduction of a new style or formation from next season? I fully expect Berba, Owen, Macheda and Diouf to leave this summer. That leaves us with just 3 strikers. Signing Gaitan wold give us 5 wingers, 3 of whom can play centrally. I was having this discussion with a mate about how it has become SAF's mission to emulate and beat Barca; we could possibly take their blueprint and tweak it a bit to suit us. They are going to go through the rest of the season without a recognized striker after Villa's injury and are going to play 3 attacking midfielders/wide players up top. The potential Gaitan signing and the stories about Eriksen and Gotze could see us adopt a similar strategy with wide players/attacking mids dropping deep and interchanging, thereby giving us a more fluid style of play. I also noticed this on our pre-season tour where we played a short-passing, quick movement game based around Cleverley, Rooney, Nani and Welbeck. Signing Gaitan and one of Eriksen/Gotze would give us those options without having to sign another forward. The sales of Berba, Macheda, Diouf, Gibson, Park and possibly the retirement of Giggs would cover 1 of those signings. What do the eds and other posters think?

I agree if it putting Gibson on the bench got the club an extra mill fergy would do it but I don't belive that when he picks weather pogba or Gibson play he would put that in front of 1 pogba development and 2 picking the strongest team
but that just my opinion your entilted to yours

As i have always said, there is always a shrewd bit of business that can be done when Real Madrid decide to have their once in 3-4 years fire sale. Last time it was Robben, Sneijder and Vdv, we missed the boat with Sneijder.

This time it could be Khedira, Di Maria and possibly Ozil. All 3 are quality, especially if Khedira is available in January i'd take him. The other two we have been previously interested and if they are made available in the summer, something should be done.

So if the so called reports are true utd have agreed for Gaitan at 29.3m&will arrive in the summer,my point on this is what do Utd know already?as we jus got Ash Young&we have Valencia,Nani&believe Gaitan as been playing on wing, we know Glazer cash isn't unlimited&we all know a world class centre midfielder is required&plus with Berba almost out the door also a new top forward going to be needed so 29.3 on another winger seems strange unless utd know one is leaving&have moved quick to replace, can't see Khadira or Ozil as utd could done a lot more before RM moved in if that interested, seen earlier report on pos Cahill deal, that may again be down to utd cash restrictions as would be cheaper deal but he is better than Evans who's jus a disaster waitin to happen every match,Torres talk last wk woudnt rule it out if he is up for 20-25m fergies a big fan&thou I'm not he's greatest fan admit I think at Utd he would spark back to best, does look same when at scouse that pissed off look but being stuck in dressing room with JT,Cole&Lumpard would test anybody!......sumbody on here put get Lumpard on loan!noooooooooooo I'd rather us play with 10 men!lol

Another reason i don't want us thrown back into the Champions League..

www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/man-utd/transfer-talk/news/man-united-eye-christian-eriksen_10910.html

Straight away when we were drawn against Ajax, i was thinking this will give SAF a great chance to witness Christian Eriksen up close. Then we're more likely to add some top-notch quality to our midfield. Not often i say this, but he better play well against us!

Just read that Mendes is involved in the Gaitan deal. Oh, haven't we seen this before? Nani, Anderson, Ronaldo, Bebe and De Gea, all deals were in some form made by him. RFT might a have a few words to say about this i believe.

Just becoming increasingly sure that this deal will get done and the rumours are indeed true.

P.S. Has anybody watched Gaitan regularly? Eds? {Ed007's Note - Sorry I've not seen enough to pass a fair judgement mate.}

seasons greetings utd fans , so tell me is micheal -side pass -carrick the answer to your midfield woes or do you still think- wrongly, that you will get a big signing in january , and how are you just 2 points behind you know who , i hate the way you sneak up the table , even when you are playing rubish , but i have seen enough to know even this will not last , lpool are slowly but surley going to overtake you, even you lot must admit the liverpool machine is coming back and looking good , when i look at our bench even , i would rather have our squad than yours , something i could not of said before , kk in just one year has done so much , its just great watching our team play this season , we just get better every week ............lfc

Very encouraging words from Pogba..

"It's very good [here]," he told MUTV. "I'm getting in the first team and I enjoy it a lot. I have to carry on and try to play more games.

"[My debut at] Leeds was a great feeling. I played away, in a derby as well, and came on for Ryan Giggs. I thought: 'Okay, now is a good chance to prove myself and to show them what I can do'. We won that game and it was a very good feeling.

"I told myself I've just tasted it, now I want to eat it - I want all the cake now! I want to play, work hard and do my best to get in the first-team squad."

Pogba aspires to making a real mark at Old Trafford, following in the footsteps of many of his fellow countrymen - such as Eric Cantona, Fabien Barthez and Patrice Evra.

"I think you grow up a lot at United," he admitted. "I came from France. I'm here and I know what I want to do. I just want to be a first-team player, a great player here and that's it. I want to play with the first team."

Now put pen to paper young man and then you will see more time on the pitch....

Soory for the copy and paste, but Fergie had this to say about the Pogba situation..

"You become rich playing for Manchester United. Players can chase money early in their career but at the end it is not the same as if they'd stayed here.

"The player has to take the decision himself but you wouldn't think you'd need to consider what he has too long.
He just needs to look around him to realise."

I think Sydney! hit the nail on the head when suggesting that Pogba would get a lot more 1st team opportunities if he signs a new deal. If Fergie involves him in the first team too much right now aren't we only going to attract more attention from clubs looking to sign him? He'd be bargain signing for another club who'd only have to pay a small compensation fee. I've read somewhere that we have an option to extend his contract by another year.
Does anybody know if this is true?

Just a few things that have been on my mind;

1. Why does Rooney look a bit unhappy. he is playing well, but doesn't seem to have a smile anymore?

2. Maybe Gaitan is being bought as a winger, and Young going into a Attacking Midfield player?

3. and this is just an idea, so feel free to tell me how wrong I am, but maybe in some matches we should have Wellbeck in a role behind the strikers, as an attacking midfielder... he is good at passing, gets the whole link up play & can run through defenses. This would allow us to play Rooney & Hernandez.

Any thoughts?
