Ronaldo to return to United in the Summer?

Although I can actually see Real possibly letting Ronaldo go (for the right price of course!), I honestly can't see him ever coming back and wearing the shirt again. The main reason behind my belief is because his next contract will likely be his last big long term contract, and as a result he'll want to cash in as much as he possibly can. Personally, I can't blame him as I'm sure that most would do the same in his position. Whoever buys him (should he leave) will want him on a 5 year deal which will take him up to 33 years of age, and Ronaldo will want as much as he can get within that 5 years. I don't doubt he loves United, and that if money wasn't a factor, he'd return at a drop of a hat. However a footballers playing career has a short lifespan, and they do what they can to get the most money within that short playing window.

If I was a betting man, I would seriously put some money on Ronaldo being a PSG within the next 12-18 months.

As always, only my opinion and all are welcome to comment.

WF Red Devil

Believable4 Unbelievable1

But surely is heart would rule his head, he is already minted. But then again it would only be a meagre £250k we could offer. lol

Agree1 Disagree0

Everyone is of course fueled by money, however for someone great like Ronaldo its all about the titles and awards he wins and the mark he leaves on the game. He really wants the balon d'or and would have a great chance of getting it here instead of somewhere like PSG. And let's face it, he's in the top 5 of the worlds most marketable men. He'll get a huge salary with us and the endorsement money is silly. For the sake of a few extra grand I'm sure hether be with us in the EPL than at a. French or even Russian League.

Fresh!

Agree3 Disagree0

It would take some serious money package to get Ronaldo back to OT, although he would get us to the next level (up there with barca) RVP, Rooney, Ronaldo would be a supporters dream and a sponsers dream - if he became available I am sure United would very seriously consider.

I thought Swiney Martinez and Kroos looked better on paper than they did against Arsenal. Let's face it, Bayern were lucky tonight - excellent team shape, but they aren't in the same league as real and Barca (and hopefully us).

Believable1 Unbelievable14

I love Schweinsteiger as a player and think he could have been the dream signing 2 or 3 years ago. Martimez could would have been a great buy too but Kroos for me lacks any pace at all he is very slow for a midfielder but does have ability. I like the left back Alaba would love to see him at United.

Agree4 Disagree1

Never saw the game tonight but I wouldn't judge Munich on 1 game, they are a very good team

Agree3 Disagree0

I watched the game, BM were superb, very quick, talented, athletic, tactically aware.
Martinez, kroos and schweni tore arsenal apart. They could have won by five or more.
Were u watching the same match? kroos is slow? BM are all set up for a quick counter, so there will be no "slow" players in their team.
Nomidfield

Agree0 Disagree4

NoMidfield - Toni Kroos is very slow for an attacking player. You ask was I watching the same match? I have seen Toni Kroos play for the last 4 or 5 years and follow German football closely. That is his main weakness as an attacking player. He lacks the pace.

For the supposed best keeper in the world Neuer made a bit of a howler. How he ended up in no mans land I will never know, it wasn't a differcult ball to judge. And he certainly wasn't very authoritive in when balls were coming into the box.

It has got me thinking, how many Goalkeepers come for crosses now? I can't think of any keeper who you'd bet your house on for coming and getting a cross with real autority.

Maybe keepers are taught that with modern footballs that its best to stay on your line?

Believable8 Unbelievable0

Buffon has everything u want in a keeper, wonder if we ever made a move?
Chris the REDman

Agree1 Disagree1

Neuer was just as bad as anything i've seen from De Gea on corners since De Gea joined and this is against arsenal, maybe this was just a blip but it really strengthens my faith in De Gea.

Agree3 Disagree0

Shappy - I believe coming for balls is more of a British thing due to how physical it is in the box and team seem to cross more in Britain too. You look at Spanish or German football and they seem to predominantly play on the floor and the ref gives fouls if you blow on anyone especially the keeper it is why I think British teams struggle more nowadays as the refereeing in Europe is pathetic to say the least.

Agree5 Disagree0

Shappy,

This is a good point which I've tried to make in the past - if you watch most of the world's most accomplished keepers, not that many of them come for crosses unless they are 100% gettable. Whether this is wrong or right, tha art of goal keeping is changing and we need to keep this in mind.

Agree3 Disagree0

Neuer made a mistake on a cross, how long before someone post 's
Munich regret buying him and want begovic instead

Yeah we're going to spend £70m and 250k a week on a 29 year old Ronaldo. Come on, if he ever rejoins, it's for free in 2015.

G. A. G. U. S

Believable8 Unbelievable5

I wouldn't want him in the summer for the money that would have to be spent on him. I would much prefer any of Gotze, Ozil, Rodriguez, along with Fischer, Wanyama and Baines.

Agree5 Disagree1

Saying that you wouldn't want the worlds belayer is stupidity. At the end of the day we are fans, if the club can afford to pay it then why should it bother us. You don't worry about the company you work for when they take on new staff in case they might be 'too expensive'.

Fresh!

Agree1 Disagree1

Agreed, he won't be coming here in the summer unless Real want to get rid of him on the cheap. Which obviously they wouldn't!

Agree1 Disagree0

How is it stupidity? spending that amount on one player when we could spend it on 3 or 4 players that would improve our first 11. Ozil, Gotze, Baines and Wanyama.

Agree2 Disagree0

Fresh! He is the worlds 2nd best player. Clearly better than the rest but still clearly 2nd best IMO. It pains me to say it but that is the clear truth as I see it.

Agree0 Disagree6

Fresh, we get you have man love for onaldo, but disagreeing with you does make someone stupid. He's a brilliant player, along with Messi head and shoulders above everybody else. But for the money he would cost, I think we could invest better and strengthen the team more. Doesn't make me stupid mate.

AJH

Agree0 Disagree0

He's not second best at all, if you had the choice between Messi or Ronaldo coming to United, 99% of the time Ronaldo would be the chosen one.

Agree1 Disagree1

Gotze and Reus would do just as well and better value if you were going to spend that kind of money.

On another note, Guys I have said this before and again watching the Porto game last night, I can't for the life of me understand all the hype and the price tag on Rodrigues. I will take Di-maria or Muniain any day of the week over him.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

People say that we could buy Gotze, Eriksen and about ten other players for the same money. SAF would never buy more than maybe 3 or 4 first teamers. Realistically we could do well with just two and a couple of youngsters. As I have said before, Ronaldo for £60 million, Strootman for £15 million, Digne for £6 million and maybe one more.

Fresh!

Agree1 Disagree0

DB Red

If I had the choice I'd pick Ronaldo TBH. But that's only because of his power and EPL experience, he'd be better suited to us. Messi is the best player in the world though and has been consistently for a few years IMHO.

I'm not very knowledgable on the subject but I'll tell you what I know:

M Keane - doing well at CB for Leicester, at just 19 yrs old he has impressed and played most games for the team who are pushing for promotion into the EPL.

Petrucci - had a slow start for Peterborough but that was expected as this is his first ever loan spell. He had a good game the other day and scored a nice goal - didn't see their game tonight so I'd be interested to find out how he got on as they had a good win.

Henriquez - went on loan to Wigan, primarily as a backup for Kone who went to AFCON. Has hardly played (but scored 1 goal) and now Kone is back so unlikely to get much playing time.

Don't know much more sorry but would be interested to hear from others who know more. There are many other players on loan who I don't know how they're getting on.

Who wouldn't want a midfield of javi martinez and scweinsteiger.

The Devil {Ed004's Note - Bayern are playing some very good football. I love the system they play is one i would love to see here. I don't rate their striker though}

Believable5 Unbelievable2

I'm sure that'll be the first thing Pep changes ed ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

I like the way they play, just pateint passing and pass about their defense/midfield forcing arsenal forward then they attack.

JK92

Agree0 Disagree0

Bayern are so compact and very well organized and even without a marquee striker very good. Watching porto and malaga and malaga is poor and disco is non-existent. Matter of time before porto score. {Ed004's Note - I watched both games tonight and neither Isco or Rodriguez (granted he's just back from injury and was only on for about half an hour) impressed me. From bits of the Arsenal game I saw Wilshere was brilliant and exactly the type of player we are missing in midfield. A leader}

Agree1 Disagree0

Have to agree with you Wilshere was quality all night, if he ever becomes available Utd should be first in the queue {Ed004's Note - I would love to see a move for Wanyama and Wilshere. Would add a lot to the squad with capable cover in Carrick and Cleverley}

Agree1 Disagree0

Wilshere was indeed class, and it seems its not only this site that united fans are calling for him to sign. How much would he cost? £35-£40mil. ?

Agree4 Disagree0

IMO Wilshere is an impossible buy this summer. He seems pretty loyal but if they keep being so poor I could see him leaving in about 2 years, He is a class act that's for sure. Too good for Arsenal? What do you think, Stoner? ; )

Agree0 Disagree0

As I posted yesterday, I watch Rodriguez a lot and he is over hyped. Bale a much better option as winger.
Nomidfield

Agree0 Disagree0

ED004 exactly the same observation on both players and that is probably why the manager passes on some of these guys to the annoyance of many of us as they don't justify the price tags.

Wilshire would be fantastic as he was outstanding in a very poor arsenal team and that is difficult to do as you know.

Is it just me or do english teams get a hard time from refs in the champo league?

Believable6 Unbelievable1

I think it's an un-written rule to do with our history and Europe. Also I still don't think there is an Englishman on the uefa or fifa board? And hasn't been for some time, correct me if I'm wrong. I think the federations favour (maybe not intentionally) favour German, Italian and Spanish clubs within Europe, we lag behind possibly the French. But also generally European teams are better than us at play acting, it's coached in.

Supasub

Agree3 Disagree1

Someone disagrees? I would change the statement to British teams infact. I've seen some strange refereeing in rangers and Celtic games of the past most recently the juventus game, an Italian club found guilty of dealings with referees at least once if not twice in the last couple of decades, eds would remember in more detail.

Ok, so its somewhat hear say, but Marca are fairly accurate I think. Ronaldo is leaving this summer, now this is very exciting news for all of us. I'm sure we will put together a package to present to him. It just seems to fit together (the new Nike deal negotiations, him wanting to leave, Bobby and SAF talking about him a lot, meeting with Gill in Madrid).

Agree2 Disagree2

Not happening, please don't start this in February, I don't think I can handle reading fantasy until the end of summer.

RED_SKY

Agree5 Disagree1

I'm not saying it is going to happen but we had certain people coming on here during the summer saying "We WILL NOT sign Van Persie, it's never going to happen" etc etc. let's not rule anything out. other than Arsenal getting anything out of this tie, I think that's pretty safe.

TK-Red

Agree0 Disagree0

Not my problem Red Sky. Its a rumours and banter site at the end of the day.

Fresh!

Agree4 Disagree2

Hmmm, RVP was £24mil, Ronaldo nearer £100mil. Big difference. Although I'd love it, I can't see it. Also, would it not mean we'd have to change our whole team to adapt to him, he is more of a striker than winger these days maybe?

Agree3 Disagree0

Ronnie is 28 he will want 1 last big payday it won't be utd we will not pay out 60-80 million and a crazy wage.
johndenton

Agree1 Disagree0

If Madrid want to sell then they will get nowhere near £100million for him. I expect they would get less than they paid for him. Maybe a cash plus player deal is likely, depending on where he goes. Point being that people have been very quick in the past to say something definitely won't happen and have been proven wrong. As for changing the whole team to adapt, is the way we play at present so impressive that it doesn't need changing? Ronaldo doesn't play as a striker for Madrid, he plays on either wing.

TK-Red {Ed004's Note - Tbh for the money it would cost to buy Ronaldo we would have to sell Rooney to cover and if that's the case I reckon signing a group of players such as Baines, wanyama, wilshere, and two of Isco/Gotze/Ozil etc would be better value}

Agree0 Disagree2

I can't see it being possible for us unfortunately. Having said that, I don't see it as a possibility for any club who's looking to meet the FFPR considering his likely transfer fee and wages. Ed002 suggests that Man City may lose one or more of Silva/Tevez/Nasri/Dzeko in the summer though so perhaps they will be looking to spend big? : /

Agree0 Disagree0

I would tend to agree Ed004. I would rather sign Rodriguez, Isco, Digne and Strootman for that sort of money I'm just trying to make the point that the idea of Ronaldo coming back isn't quite as far fetched as some would have us believe. I'd love to see Wilshere in a United shirt but I I can only see the lad being loyal to Arsenal for the next year or 2 atleast.

You also said you are investing in young player world class ones at that! So I ask you how good is Henderson? How good is Coates? How good is Assiadi? The answers are thy are poor barring the odd one here and there our young player we have signed have been pretty good Hernandez, smalling, jones, de gea, rafael, miles better than the likes of coutinho and Assiadi! So don't come on here saying we are almost as good as you our players are as good blah blah. You lot are miles behind us and it will take years to get close to us again! They've been in transition ever since Souness first walked in the boot room as manager and spent millions on players that didn't work out like Dicks, Ruddock, Redknapp, Clough and Stewart. Ever since then they've been in decline. Evans came in, lovely bloke, good coach, weak manager, spent big on more flops like Babb, Scales, McAteer and Collymore. The Spice Boys walking out at Wembley in those cream suits remains one of the funniest things i've ever seen in football. Houllier with his brilliant buys, we all remember Bruno Cheyrou the new Zidane, Diao the new Vieira and so on. The Waiter, where to begin, probably the easiest opponent Fergie has ever seen off and the Fact Rant is pure comedy. Actually in fairness to the Waiter he did put up the best challenge we've had from the scousers in the Premier League era. Roy didn't have the time. Kenny blew big money on rubbish. And that brings us up to date. Twenty years of transition, twenty years of over spending on average players, twenty years of league failure and bagging the odd cup whilst watching us scoop title after title. Twenty years in which they've spent as much as us and achieved nothing but a fluky champions league whilst deep down they know but for Messi we'd be level. Fading ever more into irrelevance and reduced to cheering on City. Big summer for them as the Rat will be jumping ship. MrE

Just read an article by Martin Tyler, and he was showing the shot/goal ratio against the teams in the EPL.

Quite interesting to see that we are 5th from bottom with opposing teams having 116 shots on target and scoring 31 which is 26. 7%. This surely means De Gea hasn't done that bad this year!

Compared to our closest rivals it's like this:
(Club name, Coneceded, Shots on target, Percentage)

Manchester City 24 69 34. 8%
Tottenham 30 86 34. 9%
Everton 32 99 32/3%
Manchester United 31 116 26. 7%
Arsenal 29 109 26. 6%
Chelsea 28 114 24. 6%

Not much point showing Liverpool's ;)

Golden boy Hart doesn't look the best does he!

Believable6 Unbelievable1

Makes for interesting reading. I think there have been definite signs of improvement in DDG's game recently which is good to see e. g. holding onto more shots and commanding his box a bit better.

One thing these stats does show is that we allow too many shots on our goal (116 compared to City's 69, Spurs' 86, Everton's 99) - I think this could be sorted with a bit of extra steel in CM.

Agree3 Disagree0

Its definitely a midfield issue, maybe not so much a destroyer but just better ball retention.

Saw earlier that SAF is going for Isco, hoping to replace Scholesey. He's a brilliant young talent and will be a fantastic replacement for a long term!
JS

Believable1 Unbelievable4

He plays too far forward to be able to repalce Scholes. He would be a good addition to the front 4 though. Also thougt it was good of him to say that he would let Malaga sell him to a big club to 'help out Malaga's finances' - very generous of him haha.

Fresh!

Agree3 Disagree2

I agree with Fresh!

I don't want to re-open the old AM v CM debate but am I the only one who thinks that Silva, Mata, Oezil, Sneijder, Isco etc. etc. are more 'attacking midfielders' (i. e. would play in the 3 in a 4231) whilst players like Carrick, Scholes (in the later days), Schwiensteiger, Xavi, Pirlo are all 'creative minded CM'ers' or 'deep lying play makers' (i. e. would play in the 2 in a 4231)?

I think I'm going mental on this site sometimes when people suggest players such as Sneijder or Isco to play in a 2 man midfiled alongside Carrick? Not only do these players not naturally play in such a deep position but they've never played a game in the EPL. To think it's just as easy as changing their position as well as them bedding into a new league is crazy IMO.

Sorry for the rant but this is something that has always baffled me! Bed soon.

Hows it going guys! First off. big shout out to the Eds for the new system allowing people to register, it's a great idea and not an easy thing to set up so really hope it goes well!

Second thing, I only got to see the last 25 minutes or so of the match. probably the best part by the sounds of it! Was very impressed with Buttner, Nani and Welbeck for his work rate. I think his future maybe on the wing as we are all aware of his finishing issues, and I for one think he has performed quite well on the flanks this season. I was incredibly disappointed with Hernandez, he needs a Rooney or an RVP around him to perform well!

This brings me on nicely to my third point, possible moves in the summer! I think we're all in agreement that this is Nani's last season for the club, along with Scholes too. I think they will probably be the only moves and terms of selling/retiring. As for who we buy. I think a summer move for Strootman, Baines and Isco would massively improve us! Along with the arrival of Zaha and the inclusion (hopefully) of Petrucci, Powell and Buttner a bit more into the first team, we could be looking at having a deeper squad than this season. I can see the likes of Rio, Anderson and Valencia taking up a more of a squad player role. Rio due to age and the other two due to performance!

Anyways, sorry for the long post. hope it was an ok read even if you don't agree with it all!

Believable2 Unbelievable2

I agree with what you're saying, but can't see it myself. You could pick froma ny number of players, but Strootman, Digne, Rodriguez and Modric would be mine. The thing is I think we need two cm's as I think we're going to lose Scholes, Fletch and Anderson. Powell isn't quite there yet. Wouldn't actually mind the cheap options of Lewandowski, Digne, Strootman and then throw cash at Arsenal for Wilshere (just need a few texts from RVP to get the ball rollin!)

you know this utd team just might end up winning the treble, when I look at your team, the only player that stands out is rvp, all the rest are good, average, poor, life really can be strange at times, I mean even as a lpool fan I admit that some of the old utd teams were great sides, but this one- no, ps, has the premership sliped down a bit, and are the spanish teams a bit overated, I think so.

Oh here we go again with this clowns assessment of our team, dnt u ever get bored of writting rubbish mate? i'm sure if this site was up and running in 99 we would have the exact same posts from u back then about this team being lucky, u lot being unlucky, the prem being poor, blah blah blah honestly mate your nonsense get boring after a while.
Ok let's look at the facts, yes the prem is not as good as 5 years ago its called transition, I know u must find that a strange word as Liverpool definition of it means going backwards and wasting a shed load of cash doing it, hut its plain and simple, rio and Vidic were never going to stay 27-28 they get older as do terry, lampard, henry etc so atm most of the top clubs and I dnt include u in that as well were in 2013 now not the 80's are replacing there older figures with younger and potentially more technical players as this game we love has moved on to sum degree.
Wot the top clubs dnt do is replace there best but ageing stars with downing and henderson fact!
But now utd are nearly there hence why we are 12 points clear, spurs and building up to that, Chelsea are maybe a few years behind but will be back soon.
Then we have Liverpool lol well while this real transition takes place u are falling further behind every1. That would be worrying for me if I was unfortunate to support Liverpool but facts are there u have wasted money on dross u can't afford, are stuck in a bog hole of a stadium, are going to lose wot ever decent players u have etc, and wot will u have in return? David brent and his pr department desperately and succeeding in reeling out manager jargo about how the project is working and u are moving in the right direction lol.
But then I support united and are therefore the enemy so I must be wrong about ure future.
Funny thing is thou I posted on your page not so long ago about this and got a lot of agrees far outweighing the disagrees but then u have just beat Swansea's 2nd team so obviously jext year will be your year to shine yeh?

Can we please stop all this foolish talk about a treble now. That was a once in a lifetime achievement that we will never see again. Remember we were a penalty save in the semi final away from being knocked out of the FA cup and 2 mins away from losing the Champions league. We even went behind in the last game of the season. That is why it was such an unbelieveable achievement and to talk of repeating it at such an early stage is foolish and setting ourselves up for a fall. Most clubs would be over the moon for just one Trophy, eg The Arse who have been waiting 8 seasons. let's just enjoy the team keep winning and see what the end of the seasons brings and then celebrate whatever we have. I AM KLOOT

Believable12 Unbelievable3

I agree, I want the EPL back, anything else is a bonus.

Sydney!

Agree8 Disagree0

While I disagree with the idea that we'll NEVER see it again, our fans do need to stop talking about it. Even though its generally the treble talk is very much media led, the feeling I get from a lot of United fans is that its a case of 1 down, 2 to go and although we have a 12 point lead we cannot allow complacency to creep into our league form. If we allow that to happen then that very same complacency is at risk of transferring over to the other competitions.

In 1999 talk of 'the T word' was largely ignored until early to mid April by which time we were in the semi finals of the FA Cup AND the CL so let's all just take a step back and get behind the team one game at a time and see where it takes us.

Agree4 Disagree0

I read an review on last nights game that said 'Treble chasing Maanchester United' it would be an unbelievable achievement to do it, but let's not let the hope of a treble take the shine off a season with a lot of potential for success.

Agree3 Disagree0

Nothing wrong with a bit of optimism, even if I do think some people are getting ahead of themselves a little!

The 99 year was a one off - so many crucial moments and changes of fortune along the way. Can't see it ever being repeated.

Like Sydney, I want the title back first and foremost. I only dream of European success when I know the team is strong enough, which it probably isn't now.

The league is our bread and butter, and, over nearly 10 months and 38 games, I still believe it's an incredible achievement to win it.

Here's hoping.

GDS, I really enjoyed that post.
But don't listen to lfc, because we're relying on two old age pensioners. Without Rooney we're nothing. Vidic will never come back the same player. DDG is useless and couldn't put in a motm performance against RM. Our wingbacks are useless and our left back would be Liverpools third top goalscorer.

We've been a one man team since Ronaldo was here. Only the one man changes month to month, and all those men are still here bar Ronny.

Lastly, if the liverpool players are so much better than ours, lfc, why didn't the biggest club in the world go for any of them?

Hiya guys

I've just posted this on the Liverpool page and had some great responses, so now I want to see your opinions. Its just a fun question.

The Liverpool of the 80s
The Manchester United team of 1999
The Chelsea team of the Mourinho Era
The Arsenal Invincibles

Which team do you think was the best?

OsgoodIsKing

P. S. The Liverpool fans were very honest and un-biased. I expect the same from you ;-)

Believable1 Unbelievable1

So liverpool get a decade worth of teams to choose from but united only get 1 year, i'd pick the 07/08 united team, only Barcelona who were better than it

Agree4 Disagree0

I think the United team of 2006-2008, the team that destroyed and done away with Jose was the best side. A fit and fast Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez, Hargreaves etc.

Sydney!

Agree8 Disagree0

I'd say Arsenal but it was short lived

Agree0 Disagree2

United 1999 as they won everything and were great to watch.

Shahram

Agree3 Disagree0

1999 one of the best teams ever put together an really leaves the rest behind

CAIN

Agree4 Disagree2

If you want an unbiased opinion you must pick 1 season in the 80's to Campare with and 1 season of Jose's reign as there is a decade of Liverpool 80's teams and something like 4-5 years of Jose teams compared to 1 99 season and one season arsenal were invincible.

So going by one seasons only it would be:

Utd
Liverpool
Chelsea
Arsenal

Based mostly on the trophies won in the year.

Agree1 Disagree1

Arsenal due to the obvious, but Liverpool with Barnes, Houghton, Molby, Aldridge was by far the best side to watch for entertainment purposes.

Agree1 Disagree1

No you cheated. I only said the United team of 1999. You can't just add teams as and when you please. I gave you 4 options and you have added your own, which is like Patrice Evras left leg (not fair and not right). If we're going to do that then I will add the Chelsea team of 1997, with a midfield of Wise, RDM, Patrescu and Poyet, and an attack of Zola, Flo and Hasslebaink. That team was better than any of the others.

You've spoilt the game now. I hope your happy.

OsgoodIsKing

Agree0 Disagree5

How many EPL trophies did the Chelsea team of 1997 win then?

Sydney!

Agree2 Disagree0

Arsenal due to the obvious?

What's that then? Did they win a treble, a Champions League trophy? Nothing obvious there my no named friend.

Sydney!

Agree6 Disagree0

Disney! you should know that they went through the season unbeaten (indeed invincible)

Puzzled

Agree2 Disagree2

AND? Did they receive a trophy other than the EPL for doing that?

It's a good thing, but it's hardly a treble or winning the UCL is it?

Lets not forget that they cheated against Portsmouth to escape that defeat.

Also had 12 draws, almost a third of their games were draws.

Sydney!

Agree3 Disagree0

Chlesea team of 1997 lol! That would come bottom of the list easily.

Believable4 Unbelievable4

Nani's ability has never been in question, it's his decision making and consistency that is in question and that has inevitably ended his United career.

Sydney!

Agree6 Disagree1

I don't believe he will play against RM. Whilst he can deliver that one moment of magic his defensive qualities and decision making are a concern. The last thing we need is giving the ball away cheap and getting hit on the counter with real's speed and personnel upfront.

It will be about ball retention and allowing them a lot less possession with the goal of securing passage through to the new round.

It looks like jones will be out and we will have our work cut out to replace him.

In reply to your PS.

I think Premier League is lower in standard now, but I think every league but the Bundesliga is.

I think across Europe there has been a drop in quality. I mean looking at back the seasons 05/06-09/10, the Premier League and Champions League were far more interesting than the past few years IMO.

None of United, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal can say with any conviction that their teams are better now than then. City (for obvious reasons) can, Tottenham and Everton perhaps.

United: Tevez, Ronaldo, Hargreaves, VDS + younger Scholes, Giggs, Rooney, Vidic, Evra etc.

Chelsea: Ballack, Essien, Drogba, Carvalho + younger Lampard, Cole, Terry, Cech etc.

Liverpool: Mascherano, Torres, Xabi Alonso, younger Gerrard, Reina etc

Arsenal: RVP, Fabregas, Song, Adebayor, Nasri etc

I think in years to come we'll look at those 5 or so years as a golden era of English (club) football.

Agree6 Disagree0

If all our players are (apart from rvp) Good, average or poor that means your lot have; one good/average player (ratface) and the rest are either well over the hill (Steviezimmerframe) or utter dross.

But then I suppose that "Next Year" you will win something - always next year.

We may have our weaknesses lfc, but to suggest we are a one man team is ridiculous and you clearly know nothing about football if you think that is the case.

We won a cup quarter final last night with 8 players different to the team that drew in the Bernabeu and 1 of the 3 still playing in a different position.

You might like to think Fergie has not built another amazing squad, but if you step back, take the bitter blinkers off and have a good look, we have only gone and done it again.

I know a lot has been said about Rooney. When we bought him, he was a hungry young man eager to run all over for the cause. He was also still growing and learning the game. In the past couple of seasons, he seems to have got into a nice comfort zone where he was our main striker. Since rvp's arrival that has changed.
Myself, I will never forgive him for the way he conducted his contract negotiations in public.
Some people say he works hard for the team, for £200k a week, we need a bit more than "hard work" we need world class. Rooney is not and will never be world class.
Luckily there will be plenty of persons out there who will buy him, citeh, Spurs, Chelsea, PSG, even Real. My preferred outcome is to sell him in the summer preferably for a swap for Bale.
We might not be able to afford Ronald, but Bale is the nearest we can get. Levy is a tough negotiator but in this instance, we've got a player Spurs need.
Also, Bale is a far better prospect than James Rodriguez. I watch a lot of Portuguese football and he is good, but the quality of players he's playing against is very average. He's not worth the money they're asking.
Well done to the reds for a good win yesterday, let's carry on the good work at QPR, will be nice to win the league when citeh play us at OT.
NoMidfield

Believable4 Unbelievable4

You can't sell rooney and replace him by Bale, even though I think bale is a top player. If we sold rooney we would need to replace him with a cavani/falcao/Aguero type player. BTW my first choice would be Aguero.

I don't believe we will ever go for bale as we have too many wingers already and more coming through the youth ranks.

Shahram

Agree1 Disagree4

But we need a winger and Bale will fit the bill. We can then spend the main cash on another attacker such as falcao.
Aguero is a superb player, but I can't see him moving across the city.
Nomidfield

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree we need a left footed left winger as we hardly ever get a cross in from the left side and everything goes down the right. If we were to sell Rooney for Bale, we would still need a striker and Lewandowski would fit the bill. A RVP, Bale, Lewandowski, Kagawa, Zaha/valencia would be fun to watch.

Good morning lads.
How many of u think nani is better on right side rather left? his best performance came from right till now in his career and lack of proper time there in case of first ronaldo and then valancia not allowing him to settle. As soon as valancia get fit he has been moved to left due to his weak foot ability and our lack of option on left wing with left foot.

I strongly believe that we must play him at right hand side even if valancia is fit. That will give beter results to him and united. And at the end of season manager should judge whether to sell him or keep him on right side.

Rodio17

Believable7 Unbelievable1

Agree0 Disagree0

Yer I would agree his best position is on the right

Agree2 Disagree0

Nani is better on the right side and if he consistently played like last night then he would be one of the first names on the team sheet. I don't think anybody on here has ever suggested nani doesn't have bags of ability, it is the fact he uses it once every 15 games that annoys people. If he is as good as last night why does he not play like that more often?

Agree2 Disagree0

I'll sell Valencia any day. He's a one trick pony, can only beat a man with speed and he seems to have lost that! I've never seen him cross a ball with his left foot, so that makes the defenders job much easier. When on form against the weaker opposition, he'll do well, but against the best defenders, he's not got it.
Give nani a run there and we'll have zaha as cover next year and sell Valencia.

Nani has always been better on the right hand side. The boy has all the talent in the world but is so frustrating. For me personally i'd take him over valencia every day of the week. Let's be honest, we have three strikers, not four. Welbeck is a decent player but he is no finisher.

As Kloot pointed out, give the lad enough time and he will miss his chance.

He has pace and always puts in a good shift. Maybe, he should work on his crossing. It's the only way I see him here in five years.

Believable12 Unbelievable9

Agree as he is so clumsy and is never going to be a top striker. lacks poise and that calmness. I know people say he is young but there are lot's of young footballers around who have that bit of special quality that sets them apart from the decent to good footballers. IMO will never be a starting striker for United but decent as a squad player.

If we buy lewandowski, it could mean he gets sold as Hernandes is by far a better striker.

Shahram

Agree3 Disagree4

Whilst I agree to some extent, Welbeck's finishing isn't to the same standard as RVP or Hernandez, I think he can come good. He's not getting the same game time he was getting last year, and he was coming on leaps and bounds back then but hasn't really had as much opportunity this season.
Strikers thrive on scoring goals, and it can take a couple of games to get your eye in again, if he isn't getting a consistent run in that position then his finishing will suffer. Unfortunately for Danny, I can see him wanting to leave if he isn't played regularly, problem is I can't see him coming in front of either of our other three strikers and, of course, we have a lot of striking talent in the reserves that will be hitting the fringes of the first team soon.
Overall, I think he;s either going to have to adapt to either play the support role, or on the wings or he may need to leave to get the playing time he needs

More Danny bashing hey? let's sell a local boy who loves united and buy a 20 million pound player who just cares about money. I hate some of our fans at times give the lad a break. I'm sure you were the same people saying fletcher wasn't good enough when he first started.

I have said similar about welbeck in the past but I don't think we will sell him, he may not make the very top but I think he will be good player, fergy seems to rate him he's not long signed a new contract and I think United as club won't sell a player like welbeck when they still have potential to develop in to good players.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Rooney keeps playing like he's been doing this season, then welbeck has nothing to fear. I'll sell Rooney. He came in for pure season a stone overweight. He has lost pace and his touch is non existent. And we have the pleasure of paying £200k+ a week for seeing this guy!
I hope we don't give up on welbeck, he is good prospect and still young.

I tend to agree with you that it takes a lot for SAF to give up on a young player who he sees has potential.

Although as Ed002 points out signing longterm contracts with a player is no indication that he will be at the club and it is a case of more money for the player and more leverage for the club.

For me he has zero killer instinct and great strikers can score goals from nothing and don't need 10 bites at the cherry and whilst they will miss the easy chance but then they score an incredible goal from nothing.

The reason I brought it up was if the lewandowski rumors materialize then he would get almost no game time with RVP, Rooney, Lew, Hernandez ahead of him and we have keane and Hernandes coming through the youth ranks.

Adam Dean

I am not sure how to respond to your reply, but being a local boy is not a pre-requisite and neither should be a substitute for his shortcomings as top level striker.

I'm confident Welbeck will be with us for a number of years and will be given every opportunity to develop and improve.

I like Welbeck and think his pace, work rate and athletisism are valuable in tough away games (as we have seen). My worry is that he needs to improve his finishing - but is that something you can 'work on' or is it more of a natural ability?

Agree0 Disagree0

You can obviously work on it and improve but a lo of it is natural instinct. Rooney and michael owen were deadly at 20 and natural goal scorers.

The glorious thing about being a United supporter is that no matter what decade you watched the team you have been treated to seeing some of the greatest players ever to grace a football field. You witness some pieces of sublime skill that leave you feeling breathless. This season we have once again been touched by a player who appears to be on a higher level than any one else out there. RVP shows a touch which is un rivaled in this country. The weight he puts on a pass is a thing of beauty. The vision and touch is second to none and the work ethic is admirable. It is only when you see him live that you appreciate his movement off the ball and the amount of running he does. He is one of those players who you younger ones will tell your grand children about and get a little misty eyed. Don't worry I'm not fooled into believing he loves us or he is doing it for the shirt I know he is here for the cash and the medals but he has given every one of us our pride back after last season and those noisy neighbours look over the garden fence and how they wish they had RVP. I AM KLOOT

Believable15 Unbelievable8

But Rooney wanting more cash was a morale outrage for you? But you will overlook RVP's monetary motivations as one of the factors for joining us. Hypocrite.

Agree6 Disagree2

Agree, one of my fondest terms and I've used it before is "a thing of beauty". I apply it to Scholes too even when his legs are gone, the game glides when such players are on the ball.

Kloot - you write a really nice and accurate piece about one of our great players; and then ruin it with your obsession with money and what other people earn /do (. "Don't worry I'm not fooled. ").
Get help Klooty, don't let the bitterness drag you down.

'shows a touch which is unrivalled in this country'? You're not just a little bias are you RainbowFishTrambone?Mata and Silva would be the first two that spring to mind, although of course only one would need to be put forward in order to rival him.

Get a grip man, he is the best striker in the prem at the minute, but put the bloke infront of 70,000 screaming Spaniards and watch him disappear.

Some very interesting things tonight. Nani was walking a very thin tight rope tonight. Yes he showed flashes of brilliance and scored but he was playing for himself as if just to prove a point and reminded me of Ronaldo when he was going and wouldn't pass to anyone. After all that good work he nearly undid it all at the end with that silly push. Remember Chelsea in the league cup Fergie would have killed him if he had done it again. Am I the only one to notice that Smallings distribution is absolutely woeful he over hits those long passes every time and like Vidic hits the ball out a lot. Speaking of Vidic once again he showed that in him we have someone who will put his head where it hurts again and again to win a game we need to find someone with that ability. Tony V you just make me sad your confidence has flown away and nobody knows when it will come back hopefully soon. Some usual standards Cleverley carried water and Anderson was carrying something mostly extra weight. I really did believe he was going to complete a whole game. Wellbeck showed why he has scored so few goals this season. He hates having time to think and once again he tripped himself up in the area. Ashley Young I don't know how you have the shame to pick up your wages you are an imposter. Good to see DDG catch a few. I AM KLOOT

Believable9 Unbelievable9

Agree with a lot of that. I had noticed Smalling's poor distribution and he's made one or 2 errors recently. Still a great prospect but perhaps we've put him on a bit of a pedestal too soon?

I think you're a bit harsh though on Cleverly, Ando & Young. I thought Cleverly and Ando did OK considering neither of them likes to defend. I counted 5 or 6 forward thinking balls from Cleverly (thought you'd appreciate that) and a couple of them were beauty's. A couple of decent efforts on goal too and he never stopped giving options to his team mates. Ando was OK in patches, thought Young was OK 1st half but both faded.

Like most CB's Smalling needs a run of games. You only need to watch the City game where Rooney scored that overhead kick to see what Smalling can do after a run of games. One thing for sure is we do not need a CB at United until Rio retires, Especially if we by a combative midfielder this summer and Fabio rivals his brother for RB.

Badger,

Kloot won't have appreciated anything cleverley did as he never does. I thought we were very strong defensively last night and vidic was at his brilliant best, some of the turns he did to get past people were extremely cool and you never felt worried.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with everything you said Kloot Nani is all self and its time he was moved on. Tony V is a shadow of the player he once was but I still would pick him against Madrid, Smallings distribution is shocking but I think its a lack of confidence and not getting enough a run in the team game after game. Clerverly as I have said previously is not good enough for Utd he never influences games or never will and is also too easlily knocked off the ball. Anderson I think is coming towards the end of his time at Utd really had high hopes for him last season and this but nothing has changed and I think his off the field activities get in the way of his football as his mind are not on the games. Lastly Vidic was superb how many times did he get his head to the ball and is never afraid to go in where it hurts, unfortunalately we don't have enough like him in the squad or team.

we are back, nani is the best winger in the world and gna take prem by storm, we will win the treble now and reign forever. fergie is the best manager the world has ever seen and we will dominate the world if we keep playing like this. cleverly is the next iniesta and I think hernandez will become better than messi.

sorry just thought I would do a scouse style post like when they win {Ed007's Note - Fickleness is not exclusive to LFC fans.}

Believable9 Unbelievable1

But bitterness and delusion is, Ed {Ed007's Note - That is irrelevant to the OP's point though. Look through the site and see how many posts are saying wthat the OP has said in jest. All of a sudden Nani is back to his best and should be offered a new contract on the strength of tonight's game.}

Agree4 Disagree0

That is irrelevant to this poster. I jest.

Ed I've read the entire page and I haven't seen anyone say that about Nani. I have read a few posts praising him for tonights performance, and rightly so, but everyone seems to be in agreement that it is too little too late and he is on his way.

I've gone on record in the past to say that I rate Nani and he is worth his place in the squad over the course of a season but even I would admit that he doesn't have a future at the club. I do, however, believe that he has a big role to play in the run in as an alternative to a shockingly out of sorts Valencia.

When someone has a bad game this page is full of people ripping them to pieces so its only fair that they are praised after a good game IMO.
