I would seriously consider the other Japanese lad honda would link well with kagawa and his free I no some people already posted it other day sorry. but he wouldn't cost anything a would be another midfielder but would still want thiago and strooman. but would slash the cash on a move for vidal just what we need and his Spanish speaker so could gel well. just me dreaming

What is all this about Vermijl refusing to sign a new contract? Seemed like a decent player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We just bought a young RB though so does he have a place now?

Brendan81

Agree0 Disagree0

I suppose but I thought he had something, didn't fergie say he's one of the most all rounded full backs he's ever seen when he signed? But oh well, if you don't want to play for the club, don't remain here.

Agree0 Disagree0

If this is true what is going on with Manchester United and the reserve players first Pogba, Morrison then Fryers now Vermijl let's hope the same doesn't happen with Januzaj and Daelhi

Really hope we wrap up deals for Thiago and Strootman early on. Two of the best young midfielders in Europe who could be the heartbeat of the United team for the next decade. Ronaldo is a dream signing and if it happens I will be over the moon, but I think we will definitely be signing another two or three players either way. If it can happen then it will only be because the funds are there for that specific signing, so his transfer will almost be a totally separate thing to our general transfer business imo, if that makes sense. I'd be delighted with a summer of Ronaldo, Thiago and Strootman coming in and maybe someone like Luke Shaw from Southampton as Evra's long-term successor. I think Nani, Anderson, Macheda and Bebe will be sold.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

19 Jun 2013 21:07:10
Barring any major surprises (I. e. Rooney actually leaving, a Ronaldo signing) it looks like our first 11 next season will be DeGea, Rafael, Garay, Vidic, Evra, Strootman, Carrick, Rooney, Kagawa, Thiago, RVP.

I would rather Rooney left as I personally think he is on the decline but if Moyes thinks he can help him improve again I hope he is right or we will lose a lot of money. I'd also swap Evra for Shaw but i'm not sure if Moyes will this summer due to Evra's experience.

Other than that I would be happy with that team in a 4231 as long as Kagawa plays as the number 10 with Rooney/Thiago swapping left and right during the game.

Would everyone be happy with that?

Brendan81

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Brendan81

I'm not letting myself get my hopes up on Thiago yet (really hope we get him) but if he does sign this is how I see us setting up too. It's also how I want us to set up.

I'm not as concerned as you with Kags position though TBH, I think he could do well cutting in from the left and anyway I think the front 4 will all interchange with those players.

I agree with the formation and all the personnel, though I'd like Baines/Shaw at LB if I'm greedy!

Agree0 Disagree0

Think this might be the first post of the year with a 'first 11'. United have not had a first 11 for a long time, it is a squad game and different players suit different kinds of games. You can say this would be my preferred team against Chelsea or against west brom, but there is no such things as a first 11 anymore.

Agree0 Disagree0

HoneyBadger I just think he deserves the chance to play number 10. He is a fantastic player and we don't want Klopp crying again :-)

I'd be very happy with that though if Rooney can get fit and Shaw came in.

Brendan81

Agree0 Disagree0

GDS yes for playing the lesser teams it's a squad game but when playing the best teams I believe you should have a best 11. In my eyes the Chelsea's, City's, Bayerns of this world certainly do. We should have a best 11 in a formation of our choice with our tactics. Other teams should worry about us and change THEIR tactics to try and beat us. It is far too long since we have had this and we need to get that back.

Just my thoughts.

Brendan81

Agree0 Disagree0

Kags is doing well tonight so far for Japan, nice goal too.

Shappy,

let me know when you get an opinion on Pedro Obiang.

I've had 2 conversations about him by 2 friends who like him because he's good on Football Manager haha.

It'll be good to have a conversation with someone who has an opinion based on how he is in actual life.

mark my words though, this boy is the next big thing in the midfield market.

this goes for everyone else too I guess, let me know if you know anything about Pedro Obiang as a player and how good you think he is.

slight bias because we're both Spanish but I don't think I've ever seen him have a bad game in the 50+ games he's had for Sampdoria.

Enjoy your evening guys.

Obviously i'm not been able to see any games he's played in so I can't form much of an opinion on him personally. But I do have a couple of friends from foriegn shores. One is a friend of mine called Raf who's from Turin and is a massive Juve fan. I emailed him after you mentioned Pedro Obiang to ask him about him. He has now replied and I will be watching him very closely next season.

Raf has tipped me off about young players in Italy before, and he tends to be a pretty good judge of young talent. Players he's mentioned to me before they became know to british press have been players such as Hamsik, Santon and El Shaarway.

Well he has given me a glowing report about young Pedro Obiang. He said he reminds him of a young Viera. Strong and dominant on the field, with very good technique. He's quite excited about this lad and was desperate to know if I was asking because we were likely to buy him. He thinks he may need another year at a smaller club before he steps up to a top club as he still needs a lot of game time to smooth off a couple of rough edges.

I'd be delighted if Rooney stayed. He clearly knows the fans and Moyes will proper get on his back if there's a reoccurrence of last seasons flab and breath catching.
I am also very excited about the likely signing of Thiago. I know I said I'd prefer Isco. But Thiago brings something completely different. IMO I think he could be a better and more versatile David Silva. We will be a lot stronger than our critics think if he is acquired. I'm also happy about Strootman, I feel he is of the 'no nonsense' mould that suited our style over the last couple of decades or so. I know he doesn't set the world on fire, but I see him as the Keane/Robson attitude we have lacked in recent years.
I really won't be too disappointed should Ronny not return, or Bale. As I don't expect it anyway.
I just feel if we get Thiago and Strootman on top of Varela-Zaha. It would make us A lot stronger.
Remember, we are united. Not Chelsea or city who throw money at players in search of inspiration for silverware. The inspiration is there automatically, through the plentiful predecessors of triumph. They bleed united.
It's amazing what joy or welcome hope a little scribble can bring me! I love the toying of formations in my head!
U and I T E D

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed. few posters don't fancy signing strootman (dylan especially :)) but I think his style would allow thiago express himself.

BABY FACED ASSASIN

Agree0 Disagree0

I think its all about balance in the team, strootman might not be the best in his position, but nevertheless, along with Carrick, he will give us a platform for the more creative midfielders to play from.
Let's hope we can sign him and thiago. I think the only obstacle with us signing thiago, is if he decides to stay at barca. If his mind is made up to leave, then we stand a good chance.
Nomidfield

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree I was watching strooman closely in the u21s I don't no why people are disliking him I think he does his job well talks a lot and got a old head on young shoulders. He would be perfect next to carrick it would allow a more attacking flow with a 4231 formation with them to sitting in front of the back four.

Firstly, I think we need a versatile team, so we can contain and pressure teams that retain the ball well, so we can then counter with pace and precision, but so we can retain the ball too, meaning we can break down teams that contain.

For this system, I think we need to play with three centre mids, so we can retain the ball well, and so we can put pressure on the opponents centre mids. Obviously we would need two centre mids to stay fairly deep, who can pass the ball very well but also tackle well and get stuck in, such as Gundogan, Marchisio, Modric, Fabregas or even Thiago. Then we would need one centre mid to play more advanced, who can pass the ball to the centre forward and wingers, and create more chances, namely Kagawa.

This means we would have three centre mids who can pass the ball and retain the ball very well, and we would have two centre mids who can tackle, mark and put pressure on the opponent centre mids, plus we could have Kagawa to put pressure on the deeper lying centre mid, (Pirlo, Alonso, Xavi) and make a nuisance of himself.

Furthermore for this system, we would need to play with fast wingers, so they can target space against teams that retain the ball well. Obviously we would need wingers who can beat a man for pace, shoot, cross, pass and support the centre forward, but also put pressure on the opponent wing backs, such as Sanchez, Valencia, or Reus.

Therefore, this team would pass and keep the ball very well. The team would contain effectively with two solid centre mids that can both tackle and pass and would counter quickly with two fast wingers that can beat a man for pace and a lethal centre forward with great positioning that can finish the chance. This team would also pass and move effectively against other teams that contain, with three centre mids with good vision who can all pass very accurately, and with wingers that can pass well and score goals and top class striker.

Most players especially foriegn players would rather live in London. Plus Chelsea pay higher wages and you have just as much chance of winning titles at Chelsea as you do with us. So you can see we are fighting an up hill battle. We need to which the focus on other aspects such as prestige and playing style to help sway players to sign for us. Sadly most footballers have and agent bending their ear telling them they have a short career and they need to chase the money while its their. Of course the agent is saying that thinking of their own percentage. But they do have a lot of sway with the younger players.

Hopefully the fact that Thiago's agent is his father should mean his father gives him better advice. But that still doesn't mean he'll nessisarily choose us.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2013 18:43:26
All this talk of Chelsea paying higher wages is unbelievable! Man United have two of the world's most paid players in their books, EPL top earners. Manchester United won the title with a record highest wagebill in the EPL. Players like Valencia, Nani, Anderson, Young, Fletcher, etc are on fairly high wages. Little wonder the Eds avoid money talk as it confuses people here a lot.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know wot u mean shappy, but I was seriously asking the question can anyone remember us beating them to a signing in that pdriod, I think logically if tiagho is leabbmving barca for playing time then logically it has to b us, but I wouldn't be suprised to see him sat on chelseas bench come auggust, or barcas.
mick the red fireman.

Agree0 Disagree0

Man city have the highest wage bill in the premier league. chelsea will pay more wages than us aswell

Agree0 Disagree0

Well Mikel is the obvious one kind of. Ferguson also said he didn't move quick enough for Lampard (thank god, good player but I hate him). Then there was supposed interest in Essien. You could argue on other players we were strongly linked with Hazard being the obvious one but no proof on these ones that we actually were. I think Chelsea can pay higher transfer fees but I also don't think wages come into it. The only real pull for Chelsea over Utd is of course being in London but that is the only one I can think of.
Invisible stuey

Agree0 Disagree0

Man Utds wage bill is lower than Chelsea's and Man City's. City won the title with a wage bill of over 200m last season while this season we had less than that.

I must be the only one on this site who don't want strootman to sign on. he is not what we are looking for. 1. he is way to slow 2 he will not score more than 5 goals per season. 3. he will slow the pace of the game down to much bringing opponents into the game. 4. attacking midfielders will run past him meaning he will drop deeper and deeper. 5 no dribbling skills to go past players need I go on {Ed004's Note - You obviously haven't watched him enough. The likes of Xavi, Pirlo and Schweinsteiger are not not lightening quick players but none of them slow the game down Sahin is extremely slow and Dortmund play a very quick style of play. I assume you want Carrick replaced as he isn't very quick at all. He scored more than 5 goals from midfield this season for PSV and had more than 10 assists. And you probably should as everything you are talking about sounds like it is needed more for a winger. How many goals does Xavi, Pirlo etc get from midfield? Excluding free kicks and set pieces, how fast are they? And how many people in world football consider them as greats and world class players?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You haven't seen Dylan's posts yet have you?

REDFAITH {Ed004's Note - Everytime Strootman is mentioned Dylan tells us all how Strootman is not good enough, not because he has seen him play, but because Barcelona, Bayern, Chelsea etc haven't tried to sign him and therefore he must not be any good. Kind of like Hernandez, Vidic and Evra who were all awful signings....}

You are certainly not the only one, though I wouldn't agree with your reasoning that is for sure

Your mistaking speed of thought and awareness for physical speed Strootman isn't in the above mentioned class as well as he played in the semi final.
The energy and influence that illarramendi the Spain u21 was also at another level.
I'd be more impressed with that signature any day!
Strootman won't be signing!
Dylan {Ed004's Note - So how many times was Strootman caught on the ball vs opposition during the Euros? You watched him closely throughout the tournament and I'm 100% positive you were looking for every single flaw and mistake the player made}

Agree0 Disagree0

"Attacking midfielders will run past him" Yeah that's why he completed the most tackles in the Eredivisie last season

Nat {Ed004's Note - And averaged, a magnificent average of over 7 tackles a game in Europe to put that into context Vidic averages around 1!}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed004
He's on the fringe too much for my liking tidy but at OT with 9 men behind the ball he'd bore us to death
It's my desire for a midfield signing to take us to another level and he doesn't fit that criteria.
His agents aware of this by doing quite a bit of talking him up!
A question for you Illarramendi or Superman?
Dylan {Ed004's Note - Strootman all day long..}

Agree0 Disagree0

Stats are b******* if that's true it shows how we dominate games if Vidic comes in with 1
Are you seriously of the opinion we are interested in him or are you attempting to prove that the man united had as nailed on maybe heading elsewhere?
Dylan {Ed004's Note - I am over 80% confident Strootman will sign for Manchester United and have 100% faith that Ed002 has given us valuable information regarding the transfer and that Strootman will be a massive success here if/when he joins}

Agree0 Disagree0

Strootman over illarramendi
We are going to judged on this?
I saw more from illarramendi in 15 min than Strootmans season
Dylan {Ed004's Note - That's because you admitted to never seeing Strootman play before the European Championships and you based your opinion on him due to the fact the papers were not linking him to every team under the sun well the papers weren't linking Vidic, Evra, Hernandez etc to every team in the planet and they all didn't turn out too badly. I reckon if he went and signed for City tomorrow you'd be the type of poster condemning the club for not going and signing the Dutch captain who's leadership skills we are massively missing in midfield}

Agree0 Disagree0

You don't need to worry about me wishing he'd signed he will be in italy or Germany.
I admit to not watching him in the English championship equivalent!
But you see top class in a minute and he ain't, the Spanish kid far better potential playing for Sociedad with Real arsenal chasing his signature not heard his agent begging EPL clubs to give him a chance
Dylan

Agree0 Disagree0

How many goals did Roy Keane get? I suppose he was a bad signing too?

Agree0 Disagree0

No and people like you weren't predicting their arrival for 6 months based on watching them in a p--- poor league
Dylan

Eds,
Good friend of mines Uncle works at Chelsea and he is basically one of the gents that's sits with management during press conferences. He was having a chat with my mate yesterday and he mentioned that Mourinho is struggling to see where Mata fits into his plan for next season. He wants to play Hazard more in the centre and sees Mata as also an opportunity to regain some money from a potential big money signing.
Can you see any truth in this? Would United consider Mata if he became available as an alternative to Thiago should he decide to stay in Spain?
Perhaps a Rooney and Mata swap deal?

Thanks,

Paul {Ed002's Note - Mata is in South America at the moment and Hazard away. Mourinho is not known for scratching out little tactical diagrams during press conferences and blurting out statements about not knowing what to do with Mata and Hazard.}

It's vital we sign thiago. I believe this guy can become world class. I just hope there's work bin done behind the scenes and where not just sat back monitoring the situation, our midfield needs class this summer. And I hope the likes of Chelsea, city or bayern don't get there before us

Marm

Believable0 Unbelievable0

In my opinion (although he does sometimes give the ball away with lack of concentration) he already is world class, it is just that he has world stars in front of him for his club that he hasn't played enough to show it. I think I will feel as sick as the Ronaldhino transfer if we don't sign Thiago, it is potentially the best signing we have made in years.

Watching Thiago last night he does look the real deal and could really blossom at United.
This is a kid we have to buy, we cannot afford to miss out on him.
If we get Strootman and Thiago for probably around 30-35 million that would be two fantastic deals and will put to bed the midfiled problems.
I would certianly move Anderson on if we secure these two players.
Depending on who else leaves which is most probably going to be Nani and Bebe we could do with signing another winger. I personally think that it's going to be Gaitan, i'm not saying I agree but I think that will be the cheapest option.
From a presonal point of view I hope that we will keep Rooney. A fit and focused Rooney can score you 20-30 goals in a season no problem and I still think he is still a top class player.
Obviously if Rooney does want to leave we will have to look at bringing in a replacment for him.
It looks like Lewandowski want's to go to Bayern and every Tom Dick and Harry want's to go to Madrid. ie Cavani, Suarez etc Which I know we would never be interested in anyway due to the price and Suarex being a Liverpool player and his antics with Evra.
Not to sure who else there is, obviously there is Ronaldo but I think he will run his contract down at Madrid and by the time that finishes he will be 30 years old.
Any suggestions for a forward if Rooney goes?

Simmo {Ed004's Note - What about Ozil? If Madrid sign Bale, Suarez, and Cavani surely the first two will start along side Ronaldo all behind Cavani were does that leave Ozil? Bayern won't need him anymore with Gotze, Muller etc, Chelsea have a tonne of CAM's and City have Silva, and apparently soon to be Isco. Though it would mean we continue to play Kagawa out left cutting inside and I think a left winger would still be needed, Lamela anyone?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Ozil is a top player but if he become available there would be a queue of clubs waiting to sign him.
It wouldn't matter to City or Chelsea that they already have players in that position. It's never stopped them before.

Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think Ozil would be that good in the premier league. I have watched him, and early on he struggled to play 90 mins. I know he runs and runs for the time he is on the pitch, but Spanish football is nowhere near the pace and physicality of the EPL. So I think he would struggle. {Ed004's Note - I disagree Ozil is a lot fitter now. He is also better than Silva, Mata etc and they're fine in the premiership}

Agree0 Disagree0

I also don't think Ozil could play for a full season just behind RVP.
He's not that kind of player.

Simmo {Ed004's Note - What? Ozil plays behind Higuain and Benzema for Madrid all season?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozil drifts on the right and cuts inside everytime I've watched him play.
Ronaldo on the left with either Benzema or Higuain up top.

Simmo {Ed004's Note - But he plays in the hole for Germany and usually Di Maria plays out wide right with Ozil in the centre?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Although we were obviously unlucky not to get past Madrid in Cl, both Ozil and Di Maria were very dangerous against us, especially on the break. They may have been slightly inconsistent last year and personally I just don't like DiMaria much. But I think anybody saying they can't play in the premiership has to be crazy surely? Both players are better than the wide players we have and both players are better than 90% of the attacking players in the premiership. Mata, Silva can cut it, why do people think these players cant?
Invisible STuey

Agree0 Disagree0

I have no doubt that Ozil would make it in the premiership, I just don't see him as a forward next to RVP.
I don't agree with Ed004, I would rather take Mata over Ozil anyday.

Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

I would take Mata over Ozil as well, but I would also take Ozil over Silva or Cazorla, and I think after a season in the Prem, I would rate Ozil over Mata. Also, Ed, I would carry Lamela to Manchester via Shanghai to sign him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozil is class and is an out an out cf / cam he is every bit as good as mata

Hi all. Ed002 if you're about. Strootman and Thiago are looking more and more likely to sign if all reports can be believed. I know Strootmans buy out clause has to be activated before the end of July but if these signings go ahead can you see them being carried out in the next couple of weeks or will it drag out. {Ed002's Note - I cannot answer questions about the timing of transfers.}

ED002 question for you MD catalan paper say Chelsea are keen to sign Thiago this summer is this what you were eluding to in the post where you say Barcelona may offer Thiago as part of a deal for another player?

FREDTHERED {Ed002's Note - I have explained the situation.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It will be money plus Thiago for Luiz I reckon would Thiago go there knowing limited playing time?

Well that is a really tough start but no doubt Moyes will want to hit the ground running and will have the squad focused from day 1. No overweight nonsense from Rooney this season start I hope. Also, we should be looking to get the signings done a bit quicker now to be at full strength for those difficult fixtures.

I was more interested in the last 5 fixtures to be honest, and thankfully those are a bit easier comparitively.

REDFAITH

I also think our Christmas period is a lot easier than both Chelsea and city. Think this could be key.

everton are looking at a left back could mean baines is going. hope we sign alcantra, strootman, baines and a left winger is seriously needed I would sell young and nani waste of money get what we can for them now and reinvest the money. I would also sell rooney, evra, macheda, bebe, lindergard, lingaard, buttner and vidic I know its a lot of first teamers but I think if the correct replacements are brought in it won't affect us. also cole, januzaj and the keanes deserve a chance powell hopefully get a loan somewhere decent with a lot of game time. also think fabio deserves a decent chance I think he could be good with a long run in the team probably won't happen with baines coming in though

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sell Vidic? Are you serious? He is our best defender, still one of the top 5 in the world.

REDFAITH

Redfaith

100% agree with you. What nonsense, he is the guy you want leading the team out in big games. He is fierce competitor and captain of the team.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

I love vidic but tbh he is 30 and if a Russian club wants to offer £20m+ for him its a no brainer
Chris the REDman {Ed004's Note - It is not. We keep our captain imo who showed at times last season how much we badly missed him. Vidic is one of the few world class players we have imo and that's why he needs to stay}

Agree0 Disagree0

Vidic is one of only 3-4 world class players at united. Why would you want to sell him? He's first on the team sheet for me. Like said earlier, in top 5 CB in the world. Without a doubt.

Agree0 Disagree0

So ed I take it you thought garay was not needed? U think if any1 was gunna offer 20m+ we would take it, just my opinion.
Yes he showed how much we missed him he is a great defender, but silly money for an aging player is good business.
Chris the REDman {Ed004's Note - I don't think so he doesn't rely on his pace so will be able to play for years to come and he is a brilliant leader. I honestly can not think for around 20 million of a player that could replace him. The only players I rate as highly as him are Thiago Silva, Kompany, Hummels and Varane will be as good other than that there is no one else we could replace him with imo. Jones is still a good few years off}

SAF was amazed by the way Dortmund played their football by playing up and concentrating on break with high tempo game and hence wants to imitate the same at O. T next season.
As a result united will be looking for fresh legs in midfield which will last for the 90mins with the same energy level which they had in 1st minute.

And players which can adapt and suit to this type of football are already on uniteds radar and will definitely end up at O. T.

Strootman 15mp
Thiago 15mp
Garay 20mp
Varela 1.2mp

Ronaldo Signing will be a dream come true for every united fan however I feel it may not happen this season. but still its on the cards.

Nani 10mp
Ando 13mp are set to leave O. T.

Guys, tough fixtures. Chelsea home, Liverpool and city away in first five matches.
I am happy with that as we can focus right from the start. Couple of good results against the top teams and we'll be on our way.
Nomidfield

Believable0 Unbelievable0

But after they play City for a second time they have to be happy with the run in for the last 10 games!

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi chaps, first time poster. Great site and thanks to the eds. With the fixtures out I really just wanted to make a plea that whatever start to the season we make, be it flying or our usual slowmo, can we have no crowing or crying. Let's maintain our dignity and leave the hysterical babbling to the others. Me? I can't wait {Ed004's Note - Good first post mate and I agree we need to show our support for Moyes no matter how the first 5 games go}

I think our last 10 are pretty tough tbh, city have the slightly easier run in. Just my opinion.

Shappy,

Just to add to your 'loose winger' tactic - you mentioned having a Reus or Ronaldo which are obviously great options.

personally though I would take Pedro from Barcelona and play him there, Spains top scorer in qualifying, he can cross, take a man on, has pace, etc. he's a top draw player.

in midfield, instead of Strootman who I do rate very highly I would love United to take a stab at Pedro Obiang. the lad is 23 and imo one of the better young midfielders in the world. Sampdoria have themselves a little gem there! He reminds me of Marcos Senna and Marchisio mixed.

Also, at LB I would probably consider Neil Taylor who was imo better than any LB in the EPL last season. However we're probably going to need someone with a little experience, I think Baines would be great in the EPL but would struggle in the UCL.

I would strongly consider Daley Blind who looks to be blossoming into one of the better LBs on the planet at such a young age.

Although. the perfect choice for me would be Davide Santon, defensively he's good and going forward he's sublime. he's only 24 also. so for me he would be the perfect choice.

I would love to see United line up with; DDG, Raf, Garay, Evans, Santon, Carrick, Thiago, Obiang, Kagawa, RVP, Pedro.

Pedro would he a great option for the loose winger role. I doubt Barca will let him go though.

I don't watch much italian football but i'll watch out for Obiang. My Italian might know more about him, i'll ask him.

I was impressed with Niel Taylor but he was injuried for so long that I would like to see him get a season under his belt before moving for him.

Blind looks a good prospect, someone who could step up. But i'd still rather give Buttner a chance first.

With the signing of Varela as back up RB for Rafael this should mean that Smalling and Jones will not be used in this position anymore. So. at CB we have Rio, Vidic, Smalling, Jones, Evans. Who will start and if we sign Garay then will one be leaving. Or will jones play midfield (hope not). It may be controversial but I would sell Vidic now because we would get a good fee and I think we have had the best out of him. We can then use this money aswell as the money from evra, nani, anderson and hopefully rooney to get alcantara, strootman, shaw snd hopefully Lewandowski.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Could rafael be used further up the field in some games to leave room for Varela, Jones, Smalling to get more game time?

Wish there was more good quality English players being linked to Utd rather this constant stream of foreigners. Are we in danger of fielding at first eleven of almost all, or indeed all, foreign players a la Arsenal and Chelsea? and if so, will that really be the Manchester United we all know and love or just a bunch of mercenaries wearing the famous red jerseys?

Sad state of English football and lack of home-grown talent I'm afraid. SAF had plenty of time to sort out our youth setup, yet where are all the youngsters? There should be a constant stream of them knocking on the first eleven door!

RedSince68 {Ed004's Note - I'm not sure but I would class Smalling, Jones, Evans, Cleverley and Welbeck as youngsters who are knocking on the first eleven door.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Smalling and jones didn't come through our youth scheme, they were bought.
RedSince68

Agree0 Disagree0

Well Jones is a top player with plenty of potential who has to be in the match day squad, and Evans, Cleverley and Welbeck are not far off Ed.

Man United Favourites to Complete £15.4m Deal to Sign Hugely Talented Barcelona Midfielder Thiago Alcantara Hope so this lad was fabulous today.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Having watched him closely at the u21 - 15m for this guy is an absolute steal, his style, vision and composure on the ball reeks of Xavi -Barca would be mad not to give him more game time.

I hope we have this deal wrapped up, after last night the world and its granny will be after Thiago.

We could be signing Thiago for less than west ham paid for Carroll - sweet mercy (double face palm)
