A Zlatan ibrahimovic signing could have the same level of impact Eric Cantona did! Although obviously not for as long, but could be 2 or 3 cracking seasons from him

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed004's Note - Initially I was completely against the signing of Zlatan. However, after watching him put motm displays in against us and Chelsea he has changed my mind a bit. His playing style would suit us down to the ground. His hold up play and passing are extremely good although I would worry about what that would mean for Rooney because I do not want to see him in midfield again and LvG wants to play a 433. Manutd have an interest in the player.}

02 Aug 2015 04:42:53
I like Zlatan, I have always liked Zlatan. He is a maverick of the game, a terrific talent and unplayable on his day. He puffs his chest out and struts around like he owns the pitch and oozes enough arrogance to strike fear into any defender.

If he joins United I would chant his name from the terraces, I would love to see him swagger around Old Trafford and he is certainly a player I would pay to watch. However if anyone thinks that signing Zlatan will end in anything but bust ups and tears is kidding themselves. The ego friction between him and LVG would be intense and could be a potential wrecking ball to our aspirations this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2015 07:12:23
Agreed unreal but at his age maybe a club like ours could be perfect for him! Ed004 with the adm negotiations still not over, is it possible he has become part of the discussions???

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Well Manutd have met with his agent recently to discuss signing the player. I have no more information about the meeting though}

Do we "Dare to Zlatan" ??

{Ed007's Note -

01 Aug 2015 23:09:19
I think the most frustrating thing for the majority of us here is that if we don't fill just a couple of positions with new quality arrivals then we are going to come up short on all fronts this season.

I literally think if we could land a solid borderline top/world class CB alone then it would go a long way to giving us a real shot at the league! I know we ideally need a forward etc and depending on DDG a keeper, but just a CB would put us head and shoulders where we are now. The signings so far have been terrific IMO, one big push please Ed.

I think we can potentially get away without a striker/forward. Rooney, chicarito and Wilson (if he can find his previous form from 12-18 months ago) with Depay and even Januzaj able to cover too. That's 5 players for likely 1 position. Against the majority of teams when they're camped it's going to be more down to our creative wide men to carve chances and in the box Hernandez is as good as most out there. I even believe Wilson as an out and out CF to be in the box can do a job. He looks poor when he drops deeper IMO, like Hernandez.

Anyway, the point I'm making is we are actually really close to having a really too team, even maybe only a CB away, and I think that's what's more frustrating.

Javi Martinez- not really got into Bayern team and now we hear they may be looking at Otamendi .With Vidal also on the seen his midfield place has gone aswell -time to move IMO .A perfect LVG player (can play a number of positions)

I have posted the same as Utd Road for some time on here. Bale, Lewandowski and a CB then we would compete for the league. One of Bale or Lewandowski would see us top three but no forward means trying to fight the Scousers for 4th.

First time poster- Not exactly earth shattering but the last 7-8 years I do business with a lad who is quite close to James Wilson in as much as he would meet up with him 2 x per month usually, that sort of relationship .Right at the end of last season I said with Falcao off and possibly rvp and Chico will he get a chance ? The answer was he felt unsettled, best way to explain it he doesn't feel really like part of the first team but is told he is then he feels a bit left out after games as if he's not really contributed no matter how good or bad he's been. Anyway, my oppo is dicreet and loyal he doesn't talk out of turn and when it came to discussing a loan he said that would upset him, he's united through and through and rightly or wrongly he feels a loan these days is first step to the exit door. Had reason to speak with this lad this week and mentioned USA tour and I said what's James feeling now and he said nothings changed . he s unsettled and of course this month could see a big signing come in and put a real spin on his world. I said it wasnt earth shattering but I can only tell you its genuine.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Interesting. But I think the kids of today want it all and want it immediately.
Wilson is a good young talent. Nothing more nothing less. In order for him to be a part of the first team setup, he needs to carry on working hard and learning from the manager and senior players. There's no shortcut I'm afraid.

Agree5 Disagree0

01 Aug 2015 18:55:58
I agree with SchMidfield, but in Wilson's defence it must be the most infuriating thing in the world knowing that if you score a hat-trick and perform miracles you will still be dropped the next game if Rooney is fit. Can't blame him for feeling unsettled, just like Welbeck was - you only have one career and if you aren't being judged fairly, get out whilst you can.

Agree2 Disagree5

01 Aug 2015 19:04:11
James Wilson is obviously a great prospect for us, one for the future. Its too early to feel disheartened. To be selected regularly at this level, he needs to keep putting top class performances, but to be fair, he hasn't really done what he used to be doing before coming to the first team. Its clear Perreira, Januzaj and Lingard are having great end products to their game. And I think Wilson is missing a wee bit of decision making with his gameplay. At this level, that can be unforgiving. But he is so young. This is the time to learn and put things right, working hard but also working the right ways and see where things are going wrong. You should tell him to keep working harder. Van Gaal will trust him only when he trusts his own abilities. And his ability is for everyone to see. He just needs to up his game.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Aug 2015 09:21:37
Wilson seems to have stuck just below first team level. It is now when we find out whether he will make it at the top. I watched him score goals for the reserves and he glided across the ground and looked to have tremendous potential. The step up is mental and physical and I think this season is where we will find out if he can do it. If the above post is true then mentally he may not be up to first team football at the highest level. You need the whole package to succeed, self confidence and being able to learn.
I am surprised we haven't tried to get him a good loan where he will play first team football, toughen him up physically and mentally.
Sadly not every talented kid makes it and some develop late when they are mentally better tuned. Wilson has time yet but the signs have not been great.

If we just signed a top centre back I.e Otamendi and then that was it I'd be happy we could compete. It's not all about new signings we have addressed our weak MF and have added pace up top, McNair who can step up instead of 2x CB, we have Johnstone who can step up as a number 2 or 3, pereira to complete with the likes of Herrera for a MF slot, Januzaj wide right with Mata, do we need Pedro hindering Januzaj? Wilson and Hernandez stepping in for Rooney. That's a a good squad depth, balanced, almost every player in the squad is capable of playing in a variety of formations and positions if need be. One centre back to get in with a month to go and I think LVG has everything he has asked for, I'm not worried, give the good players from our own club a chance to shine, that blended in with experience through our spine and we're good to go. Apologies for the optimism guys ha.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

01 Aug 2015 14:48:31
Great points. We have strengthens the squad and we have some great youngsters who need to get a chance, I rate McNair (as a midfielder), Pereira looks the part and Januzaj is looking hungry. I also think regular game time will help Wilson.

Agree2 Disagree1

01 Aug 2015 15:08:11
Welsh red. There is no way that rooney hernandez and Wilson are going to shoot us into winning the league. They won't get 30 goals between them.

Agree6 Disagree4

01 Aug 2015 15:30:23
We struggled to score last season when we also had RVP and Falcao so Rooney, inconsistent only scoring in bursts, Hernandez who can't play with back to goal and needs to run on to balls plus Wilson who looks to have levelled off just below first team level are going to bring us the league? I cannot see that. Memphis needs time to adapt and we need a striker like RvN

Agree1 Disagree3

01 Aug 2015 16:27:47
Then it all comes round to either relying on Rooney or replacing Rooney.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I think we need to be looking at replacing Rooney over the next season or two. We are about to sell Di Maria so the funds should be there. Hopefully we could try and sign one of Lewandowski, Ibrahimovic, Kane or Lacazette (in that order)}

01 Aug 2015 16:33:28
Ed how could Ibra be an option for replacing Rooney?

Kane would be a good bet if he has a good next season.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed004's Note - because he is a better player}

01 Aug 2015 16:49:55
Thats short term thinking I would say.

Kane and Lacazette would be my choices ahead of Ibrahimovic.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Aug 2015 17:15:13
All top teams have more than one top striker. So why should we be different? We need to get a top striker in there and let him and rooney fight it out. We have an incredible amount of games to go through and injuries will happen. The best option will be lewandawaski so if he's somewhat available for Β£35m-Β£45m then he will immediately take us to the next level. If arsenal get him, I shall completely despair.

Agree2 Disagree1

01 Aug 2015 16:41:15
I agree Ed and hopefully it's Lewandowski. Do you think it'll be a case of buying this summer and gradually phasing Rooney out? I'm always a bit sceptical with our 433 that any top striker won't want to come and play second fiddle and I can't see Rooney being happy playing second fiddle either.
Also schmidfield I think last seasons poor scoring was as much down to lack of creativity which we have more of this season hopefully.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - That is what I would hope for and why I wanted Kane at the start of the summer however I doubt Spurs would sell so close to the season opener. Hopefully, we still have interest in Lewandowski as he would be the perfect forward for us. Failing that Ibrahimovic has shown how good he is by having motm displays against us and Chelsea}

01 Aug 2015 18:16:35
Schmidfield

Agreed, if we let Lewandowski go to Arsenal it would be a huge mistake. I posted the other day about what if and a top striker is one of the answers right now to answering the what if question.

Agree1 Disagree2

01 Aug 2015 18:54:00
I can't believe that if he really is available that we haven't made a beeline for him. He is the complete striker. United have always thrived on them. Hughes, rvn,rvp, rooney, Cole, Law. Even Joe Jordan scared the opposition to death, mind you, that was probably due to his toothless smile!!
Lvg, stop being a stubborn fart and go out and buy Lewi.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Aug 2015 09:27:06
I remember Joe Jordan very well, saw him lay out the centre half at a time when there were no cameras. Frightening but not goal scorer
Couldn't agree more on Lewandowski, if, as the Ed's have said he is available at the right fee we should get him. LvG himself is saying we need pace and creativity but for me Lew is the one to put the ball in the net.

Just another theory

LvG has confirmed that we will mostly play 4-3-3 so assuming that is true then maybe LvG is already convinced that Herrera and Smalling are good enough to start and maybe is playing others to judge who should start along with Herrera and Smalling?

We'll find out in the Spurs game.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Aug 2015 14:18:08
I definitely think that's the case with Smalling, as the most trusted and experienced centre back he was played with the youth. I'd like to think the same applies with Herrera.

I think the reason we played 4-2-3-1 on tour was because it best allowed for the youth to get involved.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Aug 2015 14:22:10
I think he will go Schneiderlin, Schweinstieger, Carrick midfield 3 and Depay, Rooney, Mata front 3, also think it will be Blind and Smalling at CB.

Not happy with Blind at CB but see how he goes i suppose.

Agree1 Disagree2

01 Aug 2015 11:51:36
If reports are to be believed, it looks like there are some interesting mind games being employed in the De Gea saga with retaliatory negotiating strategies being used by RM and the player to try and force United to buckle in and accept a lower fee. The club is using the fact that it now has 2 goalies to feign relative lack of interest in or need for a transfer, while the player is exhibiting disinterest in continuing to provide his services at the high level we've come to expect.

I'd just say to De Gea it's fine by us, we've got goalies who are dying to play for this club and show what they can do, so if you want to sit on the bench for a year, go ahead and continue with this approach. It'll look great for your European Nations Cup credentials.

DFWMUFC

But, I wonder, how much of what's going on is down to LVG's abrasive personality?

Believable4 Unbelievable2

01 Aug 2015 12:02:12
I read a report this morning saying that LVG has told the board to sell De Gea, apparently LVG wasn't happy about the 'mistakes' he made against PSG and doesn't think De Gea's heart is with UTD anymore.

It will be Β£20/25m however they dress it up. We should push for a RM player as separate signing.
Maybe his attitude in training is not what it was. i can't believe that attitudes towards this changes after 1 bad half!

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Aug 2015 14:10:24
I posted a couple of weeks ago saying that unless RM had made a sensible offer by Aug 1 we should say to DDG our season starts next weekend, you are our number 1 GK and you are not going to be sold in his transfer window. The only slight caveat would be if RM agreed to play ball with ramos or benzema since either of these players would strengthen us in areas where we are short.

New season nearly upon us. I'm excited but also concerned. Excited that we've finally bought some good if unspectacular midfielders, excited that we've bought a good RB and potential in depay.
However, with all the players that have been sold and adm, hernandez, Raphael, Evans, ddg all most probably leaving, I'm concerned that we haven't really bought any "great" players in. Where are the players that are going to give us the fear factor? Where are the defensive players that are going to make our defence look solid and composed, where is the gk who is going to replace ddg?
We're kidding ourselves if we think we're anywhere near challenging. In fact, the opposite is true. City will be much better with Sterling. Arsenal have finally got a good gk. Liverpool have bought two very good attacking players. And we've only strengthened RB and midfield. So unless we are going to buy a world class cb and cf I think this season will be much the same as last only this time, ddg won't be there to make us the points, and the scousers will be a lot closer.

The breakthrough of this season's preseason games has definitely been Andreas pereira. I would say he is good enough for the bench nkw and can play a part in some matches.
However i do think his talent is limited on the wings, because he's not quick enough. He's got decent pace but gets caught up by fullbacks after having beaten them. He should play through the middle, where he can use his brilliant passing, quick turns and technique to be an awesome no. 10.

Only a week to go until the premiership begins. Then shortly after we have the champions league qualifiers. I must say I can't get excited about the charity shield.

It's just not the same when Utd are not playing.

I am a little disappointed that we have not signed a CB yet. I like the rumour that we are interested in debruyne. My personal view is he is an excellent option to replace golem, sorry ADM. This chasing of Ramos is just embarrassing, he was never interested. Latino players never leave the two big Spanish clubs unless the club wants them to. Much like German players don't leave bayern munich unless the club wants them to.

We still need a striker, we still need to move on Evans, Raffael and dare I say it Jones. A lot still to do if we want to be considered contenders for the league in my opinion.

Interesting to see who starts next week however I think over the course of the season all of our players will get a decent amount of games so squad depth will be Rally important this year.
Hopefully Pereira and Januzai start to.come good.

Folk's am I the only one who is currently worried by our transfer activity since lvg arrived. I know we finished 4th last season which is a relief. But if you look at our signings during that period we have players like rojo blind Shaw who can all do the same job. Herrera good but not fully used is there a trust issue; adm never wanted to leave Madrid bad buy; Falcao flop. This season schneiderlin good buy bastian discarded by Munich for a newer model who we should of signed; depay =potential as does darmian. I just feel if you were one of the bigger European sides looking in at our squad
You wouldn't be frightened.

We seem to play it safe on one hand; and go for cast offs with a name adm bastian for example.

Imo we are the biggest but why don't we sign the best like bale Ronaldo etc I don't mean those actual players; but players of similar stature which would return our club to the very top. I just want what's best for United but I feel we are missing out on really top players why folks eds why in your opinions

Believable3 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - difficult to judge last season's signings, Herrera, for instance, was already set up before LVG came in, all he did was say ok go ahead with it as the midfield is weak. ADM was merely a statement of intent and Falcao was just a gamble. Blind was a case of the manager going for what he knew to give him time to really assess the squad over the course of the season. This summer is when you can actually judge the signings, and whether they are the right ones or not. I think you have to say that, at the very least, he has identified the gaps in the squad and brought in players to fill those gaps. Plenty of managers just seem to muddle on without ever doing that much.}

Judge him after ten games, its to early to tell just yet

I think we're going to be a little disappointed come the start of the season. I dunno about everyone else but for me, I would like to see Morgan, Bastian and Herrera in a 3 man midfield with Depay on the left side of the front 3 and a quick RWF with Rooney through the middle. That's what I thought we would be going with when we made our signings but judging from preseason I don't think it's going to happen. Now I'd settle for 1 top CB and give Adnan and Perriera a chance with that RWF position.

Major, we've never really gone for galactic of signings. This year's have been much better; my issue is LVG seems unclear on who to play where.

You wouldn't be eluding to your beloved Liverpool and Mr.Rogers there , would you Ed? I know the window is still open , but they still seem to be signing quantity over quality to me.And without necessarily addressing areas of weakness. Just my opinion though.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is Rodgers way, to sign lots of players to cover up his own shortcomings and never addressing the real issues. We still have a goalkeeper who is barely good enough for a Championship team, so he buys a back up goalkeeper, who was barely good enough for the Championship team he was playing for. Skrtel has been utterly woeful for years, so he extends his contract and buys a new young partner for him to replace our only decent defender of recent years. Oh and the only player we have had at the club in the last few years who consistently improves our results is only seen as a back up to Joe Allen, despite the fact that when Lucas plays our results are massively better. But it is ok, because we have signed another 5 attackers, so the fact our defence is crap will not matter. Apart from that Buzz Word Brendan is doing a great job, showing outstanding character if you ask me. And he does have one hell of a tan! Can't underestimate the importance of a good tan and white teeth mate.}

01 Aug 2015 08:37:58
Hit the nail on the head there 001.Is all in the teeth!!

I am starting to worry a bit though that United will end up in a similar situation this season. IMO we have made some very good signings this summer , in particular Schneiderlin and Darmian will make in immediate impact in areas that needed improving. Depay has great potential , but may take a while to make a real impact. But , IF we don't sign at least one quality CB we will really struggle to challenge at the top. I think Rojo can be good enough , but despite improving last year I still do not see Smalling as a United defender. As for the rest , well they just seem to be going backwards rather than improving.

I hate to say it , but despite the money spent I think United fans will be left disappointed again this year. Another challenge for 4th again I think. Unless CB is addressed , and soon.

How many attackers do Liverpool need anyways? He's going to play a strangely new formation, isn't he ed?

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - it is quite confusing, he bought a load last summer too, but still ended up playing the final game of the season without a single striker in the team. Obviously he just needs to keep buying them.}

01 Aug 2015 09:03:21
Agreed Betty. As I have been saying for a few weeks now, the buys have been good but we now need to buy two or three world class players. Cb cf and right wing.
At present,top 4 is about as good as we'll get and even that will be difficult as I think Liverpool will improve massively this year.

Spot on betty with regards to the CB .I would get two CB'S .None of them are comfortable on the ball and it will be a miracle if Jones doesn't get injured before Christmas .I don't think we are finished with players coming in yet and i hope a quality CB is amongst them ( hopefully 2) πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

Liverpool might improve a bit but not massively. As ed said they haven't improved their week areas. The team to watch from Europa league chasing pack is Southampton, been plundered again but bought in some good players.

I'm up for this fancy dress party, I've even got my costume. I'm going the whole 9 yards for this, bought me a great costume and will play a character who sums up a Liverpool season. At the start of the party I'll be really happy and excited by the shopping I've done to get me to this point, then I'll look over and see a girl I have no chance of getting but I'll think to myself, this is my night.

I go over and try to talk to her but I'm shot down, however, I will not let this deter me because this is my night. My best mate Brendan is with me and he instils a deep sense of character in me, he tells me even though I've had a horrible start I should have lots of confidence in my new purchases.

Reborn with a renewed sense of confidence I try again and for a while thing are looking good. She has complimented me on one of my new purchases but feels the rest were overpriced garbage who'll end up like so many old purchases before, just thrown out when I've realised they were rubbish. Nevertheless, coming into the latter third of the night and the pressure is on. My banter has taken a turn for the worst and she's not laughing at any of my jokes. She goes to "get some air", I get a pep talk from the Spanish waiter who is serving drinks as he passes. He tells me several facts that are bound to end up going down a treat, I ask him how does he continue to get such fantastic jobs considering how poor a waiter he is, he shrugs as if to say he has no idea either.

I've been distracted for a few minutes by the waiter, in this time I have not noticed that a couple of my purchases are looking worse for wear. I start to panic.

Things go from bad to worse as I go to find the girl, she is now talking to a couple of Mancunians and a couple of Londoners. These people look much better than I do, however, one of the Mancunians is wearing one of my old purchases which I sold to buy these new ones. I and many others knew he had paid well over the odds for this purchase but it seems to be doing good things for him as the girl had complimented it. Panicking, I search for Brendan, knowing that I'm looking as though i'm falling behind the rest of the suitors.

Brendan is found in the garden, drunk and muttering the words "technician" and "ability". I'm terrified now, I head inside and their she is with the Mancunianin a red suit. I run outside, jump in a taxi and complain all the way home about how the lighting in the room was wrong for my purchases or how Brendan actually just spotted nonsense the whole night.

However, once I'm home I remember there is another party in a few weeks and with other 10 purchases to make myself look better, that will no doubt be my night.
