Cannot remember the last time I looked at a United lineup and though 'this looks like a winning side'. Tonight, I like what I see (provided it is a diamond in midfield) . Famous last words?

Hahahahhahahha joke right? At last we got a point against a very top team.

Are you for real a woeful starting 11 and it didn’t disappoint.

I'm amazed. Matic, fellaini, pogba and Herrera in midfield? Predictable result.

We played against the team second from bottom in the table today, they scored 4 goals all season.
Now Jose turns up with Manchester United and guess what he plays 5 at the back and concedes a goal in the 13 minute, enough said.

Love all these responses - thanks all.
In my slight defence, I viewed the lineup as a 442 with a diamond in midfield. With Lukaku and Rashford up top, and Pogba playing on the lift side of the diamond, I was expecting a decent performance yesterday. Silly me.

Finally, it'll be nice to see us playing with two natural, modern-day full backs.

Did we sign Cafu and Roberto Carlos? Fits both Jose and Ed requirements. Experienced yet big global names.

No luck there, Our back 4 is Young Matic/ Mctominay Jones Shaw. I really wonder what hold Lukaku and Matic have on mourinho. They might as well commit murder on the pitch and mourinho will still pick them if they are fit.

Jose has gone full bonkers again. Looks like a back 3 of McTominay, Jones and Matic. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Herrera is the other defender.

Playing against possibly the worst team in the league, and he puts out that starting 11. Man is an absolute joke, and is trolling fans at this stage. Prize numpty.

No fit CBs was the reason. Rojo was not fit enough to start.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - really DB?...you think that was the reason for that ineptitude mate?..

01 Dec 2018 20:36:35
The reason given by JM for the team selection at CB was that Jones was only fit CB, Rojo only made bench but could not start.

There is no excuse for that poor performance Ed25. Club is in a real low point right now. Watching Pogba lose the ball time and time again in the first half made me want to poke my eyes out.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its rotten to the core at the club DB, from the board to the manager the staff and the players, what i see is nothing like anything i have ever seen at united mate..or would ever want to..

01 Dec 2018 20:56:57
Pogba's whack. Honestly can count the good games he's had on one hand. An that's captain hooks non sword hand.

He played 5 at the back against, probably, the worst team in the league. He might have been forced to play a cm in defence, but not two. It was a terrible performance that started with a terrible set up.

Hearing Jose talk about how united used to be able other top teams best players and now are unable to do so due to those teams being so powerful now, he used spurs as the example.
He's right of course, we would just go ahead and cherry pick the best from rival clubs and now clubs don't need to sell.
Have we have been comparing this post Fergie United to an incomparable time?

Believable6 Unbelievable1

01 Dec 2018 13:05:22
Fergie did not spend 400mn in 3 seasons ever. Also which of the spurs players did we ever target that Mourinho could not sign because spurs wouldn't sell to us. This is another Don't blame me because I wasn't given a new shiny toy.

In July 2017 we signed evertons best player.

In January 2018 we signed arsenals best player.

Tottenham are above us, have they cherry picked the best from rival clubs? no

Although Liverpool have bought southampton players at will you can hardly call them a rival club, they are above us.

The only thing that is incomparable to fergies time at united is the disparity between 6 clubs and the other 14, when he was in charge it used to be a top 4 and 16 other clubs. Even earlier it was just united and arsenal at times.

No denying the top end of the league is much more competitive and city have a freakish combination of top quality recruitment, coaching and resources. Fair enough mourinho can not compete with them.

But we are severely underperforming from last season let alone 'Fergie United', that has less to do with our ability to cherry pick from rival clubs and more to do with mourinhos negative attitude at the beginning of pre season and his inability to pick a consistent team because he's taken turns in falling out with the majority of players at the club.

It is a moyes level of excuse and they have been getting more frequent this season, it is getting embarrassing from mourinho to be honest.

This 400 million in 3 seasons stick to beat Jose. That's 3 Coutinhos. In a world where Liverpool are spending 170 million in one window and pep has spent nearly 350 million on defenders alone, why is it a problem that he's spent money on a team that has been woefully handled over the last 10 years.

We should be spending more than that in terms of our revenue we bring in.

Mumbles we wouldn't be in this position if money he spent was spent wisely. Everytime anyone brings in Mourinho's spending people point to Pep's, but how many of Guardiola's signings haven't worked out. Nolito, Bravo and Mendy that too is a stretch. On the other hand which of Mourinho's signings have worked, barring zlatan there isn't 1 player he has signed yet who anyone can say has turned out to be a fantastic signing.

I wouldn't give Mourinho a dime given his record not that he can really do anything with it given by their own admission even likes of perisic don't want to play for him.

The point he was making is that for the most part clubs that used to be mainly dependent on selling their best players In order to balance the books. Now they don't have to do that anymore. This is due to huge incomes for all the epl clubs from tv sponsorship advertising etc.
Of course clubs will still sell their best players but for hugely inflated fees.
So in that respect he is correct the smaller clubs have become more powerful and a lot more wealthy.

If the tv money was distributed as evenly in spain or italy there would be less dominance by the usual suspects I those league's too.
Its not just a question of liverpool united or city knocking on the door and the likes of spurs caving in or Southampton or Leicester . Look how long it took and eventually how much it cost to sign vvd or city mahrez . Those clubs don't have to sell their best players to survive anymore.
This the point he was making. Its true.

Does Modric really deserve all these awards Ed? Fantastic player but the best on the planet? No chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it depends on how you judge them I suppose. It is a bit like Sports Personality of the Year, which usually goes to someone with less personality than a coat hanger, people ignore the title and vote on them for other reasons. It is more about who had the best year than who is the best player.}

01 Dec 2018 12:59:50
Didn't Griezmann have a better year than Modric.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - depends on how you look at it. Modric won the Champions League and got to the World Cup final with a team that was nowhere near the quality of France. Griezmann won the World Cup with a team that was head and shoulders above the rest, and it was only the presence of Deschamps that made people unsure if they would win it before the tournament. Griezmann had a long period where he played very poorly, I don't think Modric did at all last season.}

01 Dec 2018 13:12:48
Starting to judge the players more on which trophies rather than how they played as individuals, which doesn't make sense. IF it was up to you, who would you award the Ballon D'or to?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - starting? It has always been about that hasn't it? Tough question, I honestly don't know, not sure anyone stood out as particularly good last season for me.}

01 Dec 2018 15:15:33
Griezmann did win the europa, I thought Griezmann was much better in La liga than Modric. But as you say in the reply to scholes ed01 it was a difficult season to judge given no one really stood out. One great thing about the list is that they did not somehow invent a something to get messi in top 3 for once.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Griezmann had a spell when he was totally crap mate and was throwing his toys out of the pram trying to get a move, before deciding to stay. He would not have even been in the running for me, he was not in the top 3 of Atletico performers over the season - the 2 first choice centre backs and Oblak would have been ahead of him imo.}
