Just to lighten the mood😄
Which opposing player did you really hate to see playing well or scoring at OT. in each of the decades 70s woodcock 80s Barnes 90 shearer 00s Gerard 10s ramsey

Believable1 Unbelievable0

02 May 2015 08:42:58
Shearer always got my goat, to turn us down twice, fool!. Danny Welbeck nowadays, we should never have let him go.

Too young to remember much of the 80's. But any Scouser scoring I'm sure will have enraged my old man!

Agree0 Disagree2

02 May 2015 13:22:17
Rush, fowler, Aldridge. Any mediocre strikers who raised their game when they played us and did hee-haw for the rest of the season for their clubs. Also Lee Chapman, mark Viduka, lee bowyer, gary mcallister (liverpool & leeds!) used to wind me up.

Fowler, macmanaman, mcmahon, rush, Chapman, Wright, Gerrard, bowyer, Drogba,

It is nowhere near Xmas but if it was then this is what I want to happen :
Da gea, clyne, smalling, otimendi, shaw, carrick, Herrera, pogba, depay, Rooney, Bale.
Now that will be some team!! But we have no chance, why? Because Shaw, smalling and carrick are always injured!!

01 May 2015 20:45:30
Crikey peeps , what's going on here lately?
I always thought humour was integral to a banter site. Reading through today's ( and indeed the last couple of weeks) it would appear that humour is no longer allowed.

Lighten up people and enjoy the banter. If you can't do that maybe the internet is not the right place for you. With or without an Ethernet cable :)

Believable5 Unbelievable0

02 May 2015 06:12:06
Betty you do realise this is the Man Utd page don't you?
Only happy when there miserable but yea your right, lighten up people :-)

Agree1 Disagree0

02 May 2015 08:15:52
I agree there are 1 or 2 sensitive souls Betty but there has been some quality banter lately. My frustration is the excessive sucking up to Ed002, it's a bit embarrasing. If Ed wants to contribute great, if not I'm not sure fawning and begging is going to help.

I do miss some of the posters who seem to have moved on, Percy was great fun with his endless support for Nani, Syd is a lot less active nowadays, not sure where Jono has gone. There's probably a heap more who don't spring to mind as I type this.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 May 2015 08:54:57
LOL just read some of the exchanges, quite amusing. I don't understand how getting into each other will make one iota of difference about, who is coming and who is going. It will be what it is.

Enjoy the game should be a hard game and they will not come and lay down. Still expect us to win 2-1 I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 May 2015 08:59:50
Yeah true , I do often wonder what happened to our little friend Zee (latterly the New52 I think). I seem to remember he had some troubles and then stopped posting. I genuinely hope he if fit and well.
There were also 2 chaps from the US (I think they both were?) Peashooter and Mick1. Whatever happened to them?
In a strange kind of way I think we still miss Kloot too. And Rain fish trombone.
I guess there are loads when you sit back and think about it.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 May 2015 09:10:14
Rainfishtrombone was reincarnated as I am Kloot.
The guy that ate bitch flakes for breakfast, I do miss his insults :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

02 May 2015 09:20:08
Hopefully we will be hearing more from Peashooter and Mick1 in the summer. Mick (I think) lived in France - we have a lot of French based players of interest to Prem clubs this summer so his insight could be helpful.

Agree0 Disagree1

02 May 2015 09:21:47
Also the Ghanian guy (can't remember his name sorry), he comes on every couple of months or so to give me a rollicking for being too negative and then vanishes.

Agree0 Disagree1

01 May 2015 19:19:14
Keep seeing people saying wary of signing Hummels or gundogan, let me rephrase it them 2 or Evans and cleverly. I know who I would rather have in our squad

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - waldorf and stadler would be better than them 2 mb..

01 May 2015 20:51:04
Ed , sorry mate but I find this post very disrespectful to Jim Henson. I have read some very upsetting things on here , but that was one of the worst. The Muppets are very highly respected actors , and should be treated as such.

Oh , and by the way , its Statler. If you are going to insult someone , at least spell their name right :)

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - my apologies betty..the school i went to was approved mate..

01 May 2015 21:13:29
Really Ed , me too. Perhaps we might even have met previously?
Thinking about it , I do remember meeting an Everton fan back in the mid 80's.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i was a hooligan then betty, if we did meet it would have been in the back of a black maria mate.. :)

02 May 2015 06:14:57
Ed, Morris dancing does not count as been a hooligan.
Criteria includes long arms and grazed knuckles.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i was not a very successful one herbie, running very fast was as violent as it got for me mate, and most fans i expect, thank god the neanderthal days are long gone..

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 May 2015 18:52:24

Agree1 Disagree1

01 May 2015 20:38:56
There is option of another year.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 16:55:25
Nomidfield - I remember you saying last year that you would change your username if the midfield was fixed?

Now as our midfield is nearly complete with maybe Gundogan coming in, can you confirm that you will be changing it?

We could maybe even create a poll for your new name, some potential examples could be:

NoKeeper (If De Gea leaves)
NoRonaldo?
NoDefence
NoStrikers
NoWorldClassWinger

Enjoy your 3 day weekend guys! I know I will and fingers crossed we destroy West Brom tomorrow!

We would never pay that much for Pogba and I personally think anyone who pays 70 million is a plum. He is very good player but also someone whose agent wh. res around every 2 years to try and get more money. I would rather leave the circus act to someone else.

I really like Verrati, perfect for us as a holding midfielder and better in some ways than pogba in that role.

I recommend you change to NoStriker by the looks of things LOL.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 14:35:58
Ed what do u think about Ronaldo coming back to man united

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Nothing. I guess there is marginally more chance of Ronaldo playing for Manchester United again than George Best.}

01 May 2015 16:07:38
I understand that you have had to take some nonsense from people on this site recently, but that is thoroughly disrespectful!

I doubt this will be posted or simply met with a general disdain of know-it-all-itus, but occassionally engaging the brain is best before sitting in front of your keyboard.

I rarely post here despite visiting every day. Sadly, this is one of the most dissapointing things I have seen posted on this page and it's even sadder to see it come from someone who is clearly the chief BTS contributor.

Agree0 Disagree3

{Ed002's Note - Try not to be a complete flake. Who do you think it is disrespectful to. George Best - he certainly wouldn't have minded. Ronaldo? He wanted out of Manchester United and left for better things.}

01 May 2015 16:13:44
Interesting Ed , very interesting. So there is still a chance?

Good to see you back Ed002.

Agree0 Disagree1

01 May 2015 16:23:58
This post is funny, the only chance of seeing Ronaldo at old Trafford again is in the CL next year when he's still at Madrid!

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 16:32:35
Just an opinon Ed. I'm off to sit in a 99 cone.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 16:43:01
Whats up with these over-sensitive fools? Yes Best is no longer with us but Ed002 is simply making a light hearted joke. I doubt it will harm anyone ever.

If you don't want to see these kind of small comments on the internet, you may want to disconnect your ethernet cable and throw your PC out the window.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 May 2015 17:23:09
MDJ come on it was a joke. anybody who offended by that is over sensitive IMO it is a banter site after all. I have been on the recieving end of the EDS razor sharp wit and sarcasm on occasion as have many others its nearly lays in good spirit. Ronaldo has won less and appeared in less finals at RM than he did at united so better climate maybe but not success imo

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 17:23:42

01 May 2015 13:42:41
Youri Tielemans HAS to bought this summer, even if it does mean loaning him back for a season or so? If not we will be missing out BIG time! I know he is still quite young but the evidence of him becoming a top, top player is clear to see! The goal he scored the other day was a corker!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 May 2015 14:00:03
Would you stop talking waffles.

Agree0 Disagree2

01 May 2015 16:06:12
Can't tell if you play too much Football manager or whether you genuinely are part of Belgium's u19 scout team

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Tielemans has attracted interest from Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal, Juventus, Napoli and Marseille. Chelsea have actively been speaking with his club very recently but would need to send him on loan for, I imagine, two years or more. Atletico have been speaking with Anderlecct and the player likes the idea of a move to Madrid. I am sure the deal can be finalised.}

01 May 2015 16:18:47
Danny poonited, have you seen this guy play? Ok, yeah, thought not! When or if you get a chance, make sure it's sometime soon! Maybe THEN and only then you would understand why I say what I say! Thanks for your time!

01 May 2015 16:33:24
Clearly puns are wasted on you Ronnie.

But I'll book a flight right away and get out my newspaper with the eye holes so I can really get a good look at the lad. It'll be more productive than when I typed 'hot young Belgan talent' into google search.

Agree3 Disagree4

01 May 2015 17:04:33
Surely just his name would suffice? But hey, if you want to look at 'hot young Belgian talent' on the net that's your choice!? Not my cup of tea thanks!

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 17:20:51
There's been some fabulous spelling on here lately but Danny Poonited has to be the best yet. Quality

Agree5 Disagree0

01 May 2015 17:15:43
as someone fairly new to this, what are the best sites to find videos of young Belgan lads showing off their ball skills? Have you ever paid to see them live, or do mostly stream it online.

01 May 2015 17:38:35

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 18:12:55
Not at all, unless you think I'm offended by Poo. But it is slightly concerning that you seem to spend a lot of time hoping for the arrival of increasingly youthful Belgian men in Manchester.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - love it danny..

01 May 2015 19:00:30
As long as they fit into our youth set up or first team and first and foremost extremely talented football players, I couldn't care! Youri Tielemans falls into that catorgory! The fact he's Belgian I really couldn't care! Spanish, English, French or Swiss makes no odds, the best young talented football players should be at Manchester United because we are the best and I firmly believe that period! Again, thanks for your time!

Agree1 Disagree0

01 May 2015 19:06:11
Ronnie mate, I'm going to suggest moving on. When it comes to banter, Danny is Champions League. Loving all the exclamation marks though, very dramatic!

Agree1 Disagree0

01 May 2015 19:24:54
So you're happy so long as we bring in some fit young lads that can easily slot in, and maybe plug a few of our holes in a few years when they're a bit more experienced?

(Thanks ed025, you're already shaping up to be a great addition to the page)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - 10 hail marys for what your thinking danny..

01 May 2015 19:45:38
Why should I ? Am I no match for Poonited? It was a very valid comment to which Ed then kindly explained the situation in a very informed way! Thanks again Ed. ! I was talking anything but 'waffles' so I have a valid point! He should apologise for that comment, don't you think?

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 20:01:37
Have we any interest in Duvel? Looks strong but goes down a bit too easy.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - there is something brewing danny..

01 May 2015 20:46:41
Why so Danny? I plugged more than my share of holes when i was young. I am not Belgian by the way.

Deeps.

What about a nice Brazilian at tight end Danny? Or that for the NFL page?

Crying at this conversation.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 May 2015 06:33:52
Im with Ronnie on this one, Tieleman scored over 30 goals in his first season for me on FIFA, top drawer.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 May 2015 10:44:47
What a thread, quality!

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 12:24:50
All this talk about strikers and bringing in European strikers or wherever they are from, interesting fact is our all time top ten goals scored are British players, should we be going for Kane and bale.not the cavinis or benzemas

Believable2 Unbelievable1

01 May 2015 12:45:00
I do love the idea of bringing in more British players - in practice though there aren't that many to choose from. We are clearly looking at Clyne though and hopefully Bale - don't think we will have any interest in Kane at this stage.

If we bought those two in our 'starting' British players would be Clyne, Smalling, Shaw, Carrick, Bale and Rooney - 6 from 11 really isn't too bad!

Agree1 Disagree1

01 May 2015 13:01:51
Is nani worth holding on to for another season,if lvg can get Ashley young playing can he do it with nani,he seems to have matured a bit,I've read that he passes the ball a lot more now,and he wants to come back and prove himself.

Agree3 Disagree2

01 May 2015 16:11:12
Depends what we can get for him, we have a big summer ahead so maybe a £10-15 million sale would ease the financials a little bit. But if clubs are only offering a pittance then I would keep him and see what he can do when called upon - he always was a far more talented player than Young but look how he is turning out.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 17:25:52
No, no, no, and just to be clear, no. Nani has had sooooo many chances. I paused before replying as I though this was another sarcastic post but as Fresh has replied I fear it is genuine. He had half a season where he was quality but generally he has been at best average and latterly dreadful. I wish him well, as long as he is playing for someone else.

Agree0 Disagree2

01 May 2015 18:55:21
No ajh not sarcastic,I'll leave that to you

Agree1 Disagree0

01 May 2015 19:07:28
Come on Leahy, why on Earth would we bring Nani back? Perhaps we should see what LVG could do with Cleverly, perhaps he could turn him into the next Zidane.

Agree0 Disagree1

01 May 2015 20:39:33
I'm not nani biggest fan either but if he has matured give him another chance,he can't do any worse than di Maria or falco,I've seen reports where Hernandez says his a Real Madrid player good, nani came out and said I'm a united player and want to go back and prove myself, good enough for me give him till January to prove himself,if not move him on

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - sounds fair to me leahy..

01 May 2015 12:15:12
I really do feel that we are going to make a push for Bale this summer. In my opinion he is the rightful heir to Giggs and would be a fantastic player for us for years and years to come.

The question on here that a lot of people are asking though is whether or not this means the end of Di Maria. This is a very difficult question and hard to answer - but on balance I would say that no it isn't. Are we likely to give up on someone who cost us £60 million just one year ago? I really do doubt it unless he absolutely wants to leave the club.

If we do go for Bale (and Depay) then I fully expect to see Di Maria either starting as one of the front 3 or as one of the central 3 alongside Herrera and just in front of either Carrick or Gundogan if we get our man.

For me that is more than likely the way that I see us going this summer. A lot of deals like Clyne, Gundogan and Depay could be completed soon, as could a deal for Hummels. That is the majority of our 'problems' solved early on in the window. We could then focus on getting Bale through the door as our 'marquee' signing of the summer that would make us a contender on all fronts once again.

We are currently missing a 'special' player. Chelsea have Hazard, Madrid have Ronaldo, Juventus have Tevez, Barcelona have Messi et al . Not having that special player is where we would fall short in Europe. Bale could come in knowing that he would be the main man at the club and that he could be our Ronaldo, rather than playing second fiddle to him at the Bernabeau.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed004's Note - Surely Di Maria should be our star player. Or even RVP if he regains his form}

01 May 2015 12:45:52
He isn't showing that though, I think he needs quicker players around him like a Bale. RVP is getting over the hill now also, I wouldn't put any of Rooney, Di Maria or RVP in the same bracket as Ronaldo, Messi, Bale, Neymar and Suarez.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Di Maria when on form last season would have been up there with them players. Certainly hasn't been this season.}

01 May 2015 13:17:56
Fresh, you tend to build your hopes up each summer with predictions of huge signing which IMO are unlikely to happen. First of all if we sign Depay I don't see us signing Bale too. Los you seem convinced that Gundogan, Hummels, Clyne and Depay are basically done. I don't think we will sign all these and I don't think we will fork out £80m on bale

Agree3 Disagree1

01 May 2015 14:04:57
I love the way, in your post, we get Hummels, Gundogan, Clyne and Depay, yet we still need a 'marquee' signing.

I'd be over the moon with Hummels & Clyne

Agree1 Disagree1

01 May 2015 14:21:46
If there is a way to get Bale and Depay and get rid of Di Maria, then I think we should jump at it.

Agree1 Disagree2

01 May 2015 14:41:04
I don't "build my hopes up", I am an adult and this forum is for discussion. It makes no difference to my life what we do, but I enjoy talking about it, so please don't patronise me.

Agree1 Disagree1

01 May 2015 15:33:44
I think There is a good possibility of Bale. Adidas will want to start there reign with a marquee signing and he would certainly bring that wow factor back to old trafford.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 15:41:33
i also think we will make a move for bale

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 17:26:47
How about sending ADM the other way with £20M? Might suit both of us.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 May 2015 09:02:41
AJH

Madrid don't want him and will never give us that sort of money. If any truth to the PSG interest we should try and make a deal for Verrati. He has been of almost zero influence and for 60 mill to be used a sub for the last 15 minutes tells us all we need to know.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 10:17:57
The Daily bellylaugh are reporting we are working on a £100 million deal for Bale. I'd love to sign him but with great price tags come great responsibility.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 May 2015 08:16:21
Does anybody think we are potentially eyeing up bale to play up front? He has all the attributes to play there, pace, power, good in the air, an eye for goal. Just a thought.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

01 May 2015 09:29:25
I don't like the idea of wingers being used as Strikers, especially with one up top. You need to be good with your back to goal and understand positional sense, it is completely different as a striker, offside, where to be, how to pressure, where to receive the ball, runs to make to free up space or receive a pass, then finishing and aerial ability all need to be learnt or factored in - it will take too long.

Look at ADM when played up top (actually look at him full stop trying to get to grips with new positions).

One of the key strengths of Bale or Januzaj is their ability to run with the ball and commit defenders, strikers are rarely in that position, especially with one up top. It kind of defeats the point of buying top class wingers if your plan is to play them as strikers.

Just my view.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thierry henry was a winger who turned into the best striker the prem has seen beast..im just saying it can be done mate..

01 May 2015 09:45:40
Henry was purposely played out wide first of all by wenger to learn to beat players with always the intention of playing more centrally. Hopefully that is the plan for Januzaj. Lvg's favourite formation is a fluid 433. Normally with a central striker and a couple of winger type forwards either side. You could have any 2 of Bale, depay, Januzaj, Di Maria & not forgetting Young, nani & Mata either side.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 10:26:47
Just to draw your attention to Ronaldo. wasn't he a winger in his younger years. He kind of turned out ok didn't he.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 May 2015 11:35:11
Bale played up top for Spurs for a while and did himself justice. Cavani, Suarez and Benzema also began out wide.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 11:39:24
Ronaldo and Henry are(were) forwards with a free role who like to drift out wide and cut inside. They also need to play with a central striker to open up space for them. Bale could certainly do this job for us (like in his last season for Spurs), and I could see him working in a three man attack with Rooney and Mata. But he would be absolutely wasted as a central striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - It seems relevant to post here as this is a discussion about strikers. But does anyone think RVP could regain some of his form from a couple of seasons past? His game never relied upon speed and he is still technically very good. He was excellent for the u21 the other night 2 goals an assist and hit the woodwork twice. Could've had 4/5 in that game. If we could sign an on form RVP from a few seasons past he would be the ideal striker to play in a 433. Pace would come from Bale and Di Maria.}

01 May 2015 11:45:25
thats what I'm basing it on Sam, if you look at the key attributes a striker needs Bale and Ronaldo have almost all of them, just as beast mentions though, positionally bale wouldn't be great, especially seen as he's not even a left winger by trade, he's a full back, but look at how he adapted to that, and look at how he adapted to his central role at Tottenham, lads a quick learner.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 12:04:03
Just in response to ed 004 about Rvp. He is technically excellent which is not something you lose like your pace. I think Rvp and Rooney could be rotated. I think Lvg favours more technical creative central forwards like Rooney and rvp rather than Hernandez or even a Cavani. It's maybe why Falcao is also not favoured at the moment. He doesn't strike me as an Lvg player. It would be someone else like a saurez type player. Benzema? I also still think that rvp can play wide right as he has done before with arsenal regardless of pace (mata) and Rooney could even do a job on the left as he has before.

{Ed004's Note - Rooney has worked hard all season and I have given him credit for that. But hopefully he is rested the next 2 games and we start Falcao up top this weekend and RVP the following. I'd like to see what each offers differently in this current system. I think it should suit Van Persie the most of our strikers but not sure he will be fit enough to play from the start by tomorrow night}

Ed, I just wonder if that RVP is gone forever. He'll always have the ability to score, but it's that extra bit of sharpness and pace that is the difference between him getting in behind and being offside. The biggest issue with RVP this season has been that he is making his runs a bit too early and getting caught offside. To me this indicates that he recognises that he's lost a bit of spark and needs to compensate by trying to give himself an extra headstart on defenders. I'd love to see him return to his best, but I just can't see it. Plus playing RVP would mean that Rooney plays in midfield, and let's be honest, that will weaken us. I just can't see van Gaal dropping Rooney, and that means he needs to be our first choice striker. RVP on the bench could be a good option for another season though.

{Ed004's Note - That's my main worries as well. He seems to be compensating by making his runs earlier and then saving his energy by not pressing as much during games compared to other players. Also I feel Rooney is best as a striker and our midfield suffers a bit when he plays there especially if it is at the expense of Herrera. I'm hoping the Gundogan reports are true and we are hoping to line up with Carrick, Herrera and Gundogan because that would probably be the technically best midfield in the premiership. I don't mind Rooney occasionally covering in midfield but he shouldn't be a regular there. Could Van Persie with a proper rest and pre season (World Cup last season prevented this) regain some of his fitness and therefore form. This set up is perfect for the RVP that first joined us}
