Praise has to go to the U21s tonight, a truly Manchester United performance. Cole, Tunnicliffe etc all had good games. Despite this I think the only one that will get first team exposure will be Januzaj who has emerged as the cream of the crop. Firmly believe that he will get maybe 5 or 10 appearances next season under Moyes. Would be great to see,

Guardian report Moyes says Rooney's future is at United. I'm not sure how to take this.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hope is true. don't like what he have done on and off the pitch this year but he is one of the best player this club ever got.

Lot of you speak about loyalty as the main issue, sorry to tell you how many south american we have in the squad who will slap any hand if Barca-Real come knocking on the door. So get down with it, its the modern day.

Lot of athlete bounce back after s***ty year, just look at our club and you will see that the main performer change year after year (nani one year, valencia, rooney. )

If he stay, look for good season out of him

Sorry but he has to go. Everytime things don't go his way is he going to strop off. He's already lost two positions in the team to Robin and Shinji.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats the worrying thing though. Rooney Nani and Valencia have had spells as our top performer but since they went of the boil none of them have managed to recapture that form.

So I wouldn't be too confident of Rooney returning to his prevous form.

I think its time to move him on.

Agree0 Disagree0

At this stage of the season, I'd take any reports in the press about player contracts with a pinch of salt. Sure, Moyes may want to keep Rooney. But, if he doesn't, he's not going to make that common knowledge for 2 reasons. First, it's not really sensible to come into a club and say you're going to ship established players out. Second, it's potentially reduce his value if United were to sell.

My gut feeling is Rooney will be gone by the end of August.

The young lads did brilliantly. The way they never gave in and turned the game around with classy attacking football was a joy to watch.

This brings me onto my main point. With Moyes coming in as the new manager there raises questions over the coaching staff. I would want to keep Rene as first team coach, but its no secret that I have no love for Phelan. So a new assistant manager is needed. Now there's been a few names banded about. But there is this idea that that the club would prefer someone who has or has had a connection to the club. Phil Neville has been mentioned. But the person I would like to see most as Moyes right hand man is Warren Joyce. He has seemlessly taken over the under 21's which he helped run with Ole, and he has continued to impress with our youngster. He has them playing a fantastic attacking style of football. His attacking style would complement Moyes more defensive approach perfectly. And with how well he's doing if we don't promote him soon some championship or league one club will come in for him and he will be lost to the club.

Seeing Joyce and Rene in the dug out next season would be a very settling sight next season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Think we out played you in the first half but well done for the come back! Still don't understand how we can win both leagues then play a one off game at yours?

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Shappy.

Rene also had success with the youngsters and got promoted so I'd like Rene as Assistant and Joyce to Rene's position. Let Butty and Scholesy take the U21's.

Agree0 Disagree0

That's a possibilty Ports. But Rene is such a great coach. Some of the training methods he's used are revolutionary.

Joyce seems to be good at taking a more active role in the tactics and team set up.

Maybe Rene is better off as first team coach, but as long as one or both are helping out Moyes next season I will be a happy man.

No Name, I have no idea how it works. All I know is we have the trophy. lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy

Given Moyes lack of European experience I believe we need someone with more than Joyce. Phelan is not the answer but I sincerely hope Meulemsteen stays. I don't know how true but I heard Gary Neville was in the frame but Quiroz is the type I believe we need to help Moyes

Quieroz is a great coach and if Sir Alex was still in charge then I would want him back. I don't know if he is the right man for Moyes though. Quieroz is older than Moyes and has managed at a huge club like Real Madrid, I can't see him being happy to come and play second fiddle to Moyes. It could be abit of a power struggle. Plus Rene has taken what Quieroz did and expanded on it from a coaching methods point of view. European experiance is only needed from a tactical point of view, and Rene has the tactical knoweledge and Joyce is very good tactically.

I get what your saying, I'm just not sure its as important as you think. Moyes needs to learn to be his own man in the job and make his own mark on the team. Having too many cooks will only ever spoil the broth. So we may need someone who knows the club and can act as the link between Moyes and the club until he gets the hang of it. Yes Moyes will make mistakes and most likely in europe, but we need to give him the time to learn from those mistakes. Bare in mind Sir Alex didn't exactly blow europe away and took his time to learn about european football.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy you seem to forget Queiroz was a disaster at madrid and whilst everyone keeps saying how great he was at united, you seem to forget he had a great group of players at his disposal. If there is a negative mark on SAF it the period of the mid to late 2000's where we should have won the CL a few more times and been recognized as true dynasty in european football terms like the bayern, ac milan and real madrid teams of the past.

Could anybody tell me is lewandowski more likely to sign for us or bayern?will he be our 'big' signing?i think strootman/fellaini, a forward, a winger and possibly a defender to arrive what do ye think?eds/Sydney/fresh?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well I would say that Lewandowki is 50/50, no one outside of the two clubs actually know. A winger, a central midfielder and a left back I think will be targeted. Also perhaps a replacement for Rooney. Don't think a centre back is on the cards given that we are handing Rio a new deal. Personally, as I have said many times, we will try to go for Baines, Strootman/Fellaini/Moutinho, Ronaldo/Bale and also Lewandowski. Maybe also someone to replace Lindegaard but I would like that to be Amos or Johnstone.

It's going to be a busy summer!
Outs: nani, Anderson, macheda, Rooney/chicha, lindergard and evra
Ins: bale, baines, strootman/felliani, di Maria and higuain/lewandowski or falcao
Moyes is going to get a fair few quid to make his stamp on the team and show the rest that even though sir Alex is gone its business as usual and we will be keeping our trophy again next season!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Is it just me or am I the only one that has heard that Bale will be signing a new deal with Spurs. I heard it on the sports news on a radio channel that only gives factual news and not rumours. I'm from South Africa btw;)

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with you Nik. 130k plus a release of 50mil after next season is what I saw. Didn't see Bale coming to Utd as he was either set on staying at Spurs or Real.

Falcao is also not coming as his price is too high for Utd. Plus I remember hearing something about his deal to Monaco being done or close to it with City trying to swoop in with 50mil+.

For me I don't see another striker coming in. Looks like Lew is going to Bayern and Roo may be staying after all. Unless we get rid of someone (who I wouldn't be heart broken if Welbeck was sold) we have 4 out and out strikers in Roo, RVP, Chicha, and Welbeck. We will more likely concentrate at CM and winger positions.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spurs have let it be known they are offering Bale a new contract. This is a different thing from him signing it. Spurs have always carried out contract and transfer negotiations in the public eye by leaking details to the press. It helps them feel like a big time club. If Madrid come calling for Bale, he will leave.

Does anyone know why Ezeki Fryers left United?

Bazza

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Greed mixed with SAF wanting to get rid of the bad apples in the youth squad. Fryers is Ravel's best bud.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Money and ego.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney you are talking rubbish. Fryers never wanted to leave but was told half way through the season that they were looking at other options for the left back position. I expect better from you Sydney

Agree0 Disagree0

Zeki went and got himself a top agent due to having one or two games in the first team when we were struggling with injured CB's. Then his head started to swell and he and his agent started making unrealistic demands and he was out on his ass. Ravel and Zeki were bad apples, no matter how talented they are.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Either way he isn't quality enough to play for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest, I do not think that Fryers is that talented. Just because he came in during an injury crisis means nothing. I would pick Keane over him everyday of the week.

I don't post often, but having just watched Manchester United U21s beat Tottenham U21s 3-2, having been 2-0 down, I felt compelled to share my thoughts.

We all want to see free-flowing, attacking football from our first team and the senior players could do worse than look at the U21s, where the attacking football is brilliant. The link-up play and creativity of Cole, Lingard, Lawrence and especially Januzaj is superb and gets you excited as a fan.
I really think Januzaj should feature for the first team next year, he simply oozes class and glides over the pitch effortlessly, while still being surprisingly good in the air - a definite future world class player.

There are a number of players there with a real chance of making it, I just hope they push on and don't get arrogant.

Anyway, just thought I share a few opinions - I'm sure there are others of you who can expand and I'd be pleased to hear what you think. {Ed004's Note - The most promising thing about Januzaj is still how young he is. The majority of those players are 2-3 years older than him and he stood out.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Januzaj reminds me of a Ginola type player.
Both footed, effortlessly goes away from players and seems quite strong too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree not many seem to mention lingard and cole as future 1st teamers but I am always impressed with them whenever I watch them!talented bunch of lads with a lot of talent also in the younger group also.
By the way what happening with Blackett is he injured?
LP

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm hoping some of them get a little more game time with the seniors under Moyes. Fergie wasn't quite so brave blooding young players in his last few seasons, and I think it can really benefit them to play against better opposition. It's certainly hard to see how the likes of Januzaj, Powell and Lingard would have done worse for us than Anderson, Nani and Young in some of our games this season. You only have to look at how much two young players given their chances - Rafael and De Gea - have improved with game time to see it's worth the risk.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 May 2013 20:55:59
Tunnicliffe impressed tonight, very powerful display and played some fantastic passes. Januzaj was excellent considering he is being played out of position, held the ball up really well too! Larnell Cole impressed again as he has most time I've watched him and Tom Lawrence changed the game when he came on he was great, could have a big future! Reece James at left back wasn't bad like vermij will go forward at will! {Ed004's Note - The pass from Januzaj for the third goal was brilliant. The lad has some potential. Amos was dodgy though so maybe Lindengaard should stay second choice, Vermjly, Keane, James, Tunncliffe and Petrucci all impressed me and Lawrence along with Lingard and Cole were good second half. Wasn't impressed with the ref. There were two dodgy penalty calls (wouldn't have given the hand ball) and he let a few off with second yellow offences and a blatant red imo. Though one of our boys was lucky I thought not going to try spell his name though}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

How do you think about Cole from our U21? Plays well.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Has grown up massively in the last 2 weeks. He has a very low centre of gravity and looks a very accomplished player. His height may be an issue as he reminds me on a young Shaun wright Philips. I would expect him to go on the pre season tour.

One player who I have seen very little of who has just changed this match against spurs is young Tom Lawrence, I am going to be taking a much closer look at him in future, has had a few issues with injury but looks a great player at 19.

Lawrence changed the game, we were totally outplayed in the 1st half against an older and physicaaly bigger side. great second half and some great performances.

personally I don't think smalling is good enough to succeed ferdinand/vidic. I believe evans is good enough to be a decent squad option and I also believe phil jones should only be used in midfield/rb until he's at least 25. thoughts? {Ed004's Note - I agree with bits of what you are saying. Evans is a very good player and I can only ever see him being 3rd choice CB covering for the main two. Jones is brilliant when played beside an experienced centre back I don't think we could play Smalling and Jones together for a few seasons until both get experience}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Eveans has come on leaps an bounds an is the ideal replacement for any centre back. Hea was having a great run before picking up niggles. Are you lads serious

CAIN {Ed004's Note - Yes I think he is a very good centre back and has been our best CB this season though I think long term Smalling is better}

Agree0 Disagree0

Evans is good until he comes up against a big strong centre forward as we saw on Sunday.

He's good enough for the majority of games.

Smalling needs games but needs Rio to learn off and needs to force Evans out. Tough challenge at the moment.

Jones really needs to be in midfield.

Mort

Agree0 Disagree0

Jones and Vidic needs to be first choice centre half pairing. Ferdinand and Evans cover. Jones wasted in midfield as he's a born centre half. Let him flourish in his ideal position!

As for Smalling. just not seen it yet. Evans improved but needed to. Can't say that about Smalling yet whereas Jones looks a decent centre back already.

Im hoping that the coaching situation is sorted
out asap and also the the majority of our excisting
setup is kept as it is with the possible addition of
of G Nev or OGS etc. I really hope that Moyes doesn't bring any off his backroom staff
with him as Moyes and his staff have little experience of competing in Europe and domestically and preparing a squad for games every 3-4 days!
Im happy with the Moyes appointment as long
as it doesn't mean we loose our highly rated and
experienced backroom staff.

Hey EDs/Others,

I don't think Moyes has ever had players like Hernandez and Kagawa in his team, do you think he will be able to do justice to their talents and use them in the formation he envisions?

Also Moyes has always played with a tackler in the centre of the park, something we do not possess at the moment, do you think we will sign a tackler this summer?

P. S: If anybody writes anything against the EDs, beware I will find you and leave you in a position that you won't be in a condition to write anything.

:) :) :) {Ed004's Note - I reckon he will improve our midfield hopefully with a German or two as he is a fund admirer of the German league and I reckon those players will be fine Osman and Piennar aren't exactly the biggest players}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Moyes is known to admire the German league, where Kagawa was tearing everyone a new one not too long ago.

I think he will likely get more out of Kags than SAF has this last year. Kags will have settled more, and Moyes is likely to demand a more direct style with the ball, and pressing high up the pitch without it.

Recently I feel our play has been stifled by possession football. Too many times we slow play down and let teams pile 11 players behind the ball. I hope we stop trying to imitate Barca and return too our more direct style, pacey counters and width.

Players i'd like to move on/are moving
Rooney
Nani
Anderson
Scholes
Fletcher (won't be available )

Players I'd like to keep to prove worth.
Cleverley
Welbeck
Valencia
A. Young

Current players I couldn't be happier with.
De Gea
Evans
Ferdinand
Vidic
Jones
Rafeal
Smalling
Carrick
Kagawa
Van Persie
Hernandez
Zaha

Excluding youth and other fringe players I would argue we could do with.

First of all would like to thank Sir Alex and Paul Scholes for all that they have done for the club.

Now I hope Moyes gets the Rooney situation sorted within this week, either way. I for one am hoping we let him go and sign Lewandowski and a winger who can also play as attacking midfield. Top that off with a central midfielder and maybe a left back and it would be a good summer. Hope we can get the deals done early and the players can gel in pre season with Moyes.

On a side note @Ed002 and @Ed004, any updates on Lewandowski or any other targets?

Bit of appointees question but say the players we've strongly been linked with do join what numbers do you think they'll get? My guesses would be.
Lewi - easy, number 9
Strootman - even if Anderson leaves and the 8 is free I can see him getting number 22
Bale/Ronaldo - Ronaldo would want 7, bale 11 there both taken, what numbers do you think they'd get IF they joined? My guess would be if ronny joined Valencia would give up the number 7 and if bale joined possibly te same or number 17 until giggs retires? I'm just Interested to see what people think! Bit of a pointless post.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think the iconic No:7 shirt has been disrespected since Ronaldo left. Owen didn't play enough, and Valencia hasn't been the same since he was given it. So I wouldn't be surprised to see it given back to Ronaldo if he returned. If Bale arrived I think Giggsy would retire and hand the 11 over to someone fitting. Bale has said Giggs was his idol etc. If Rooney goes, that also leaves the 10 vacant to. So who knows.
is going to be an interesting summer to say the least.

Just watching Gary Neville, I wish someone would have a quiet word in his ear, just to tell him that no matter how many times he says Arsenal have nearly paid off their debt, that it isn't true. He has mentioned that the debt is almost paid off numerous times over the season. Surely someone at Sky would tell him that it's due to be paid off in 2031, EIGHTEEN YEARS from now. Sure if Usmanov buys the club the debt is as good as gone, but as it stands Arsenal will not be debt-free until 2031. Can't someone correct him via twitter ;)

Sydney!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Chris the REDman

Agree0 Disagree0

Chris, Sky are a humongous multi billion pound business, surely they would have mentioned to Neville in his earpiece that Arsenal have not 'almost' paid off their debt. I know this misinformation would suit Gazidas down to the ground, but it misleads the Arsenal fans who know no better.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Its not just g nev thou I have seen many so called expert pundits claiming arsenals debt is nearly paid off, I even now see gooner fans on there own page now saying this and because of this they will be spending big. I saw AW press conference and tbh if I was a gooner i'd be worried, considering a injury prone jovetic is there main target it seems AW will be bargin hunting again.
Chris the REDman

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we may see Arsenal spending a bit more this summer. Nowhere near the £70m being touted, but Wegner is an astute man, and I think he feels like next year will be Arsenal's best chance to sneak a title.

The three teams above them have all changed manager. In our case we have a manager who lacks experience, City are looking like they're shaping up for a big overhaul, and Chelsea, well, Jose likes to put his own stamp on the side and most of "his" players are old or gone so we'll see some changes there too.

Arsenal have been playing very well for the last few months and Wegner must think that if he can roll this form over to the start of next season, and bring in a few quality signings (keeper, rb, and striker) they may have a chance to build some momentum.

I don't think they'll win the league but it's their best chance in years and Wegner knows this. We'll see if he can squeeze a bit of cash out of the board, but I think their wage structure is the biggest barrier to bringing in the best.

I really hope United do not get Fellaini. He is not Unite standard and is a dirty player whom will not fit in to the United team at all. I would be happy with Baines but please Moyes. Leave Fellaini at Everton!

Joe F {Ed004's Note - Agreed}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As we chose Moyes as Manager it is not unreasonable to expect him to look at players he trusts. This doesn't mean he will buy Fellaini mind you

However at the same time Mourinho is said to want Ronaldo and the odds of him going to Chelsea have notably tightened, then add that it is said Pelligrini may want Falcao. If they should be successful it would put Fellaini and our owners ambition into clear perspective
It's game on now

Red Man

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course Red Man. We shall ignore what Ed002 has told us about Falcao and Monaco and also there being nothing in Ronaldo going to Chelsea and we shall continue to trust the accurate newspapers and question the club's ambition.

How about City and Chelsea seem to be fighting a losing battle for Falcao while United are already in talks about Di Maria?

How about Silva, Nasri, Aguero all likely to be moving this summer?

Game on? We have been hearing this far too often. The negativity seems unbelievable. We heard it last summer and we won the league. Jose with his team of Galacticos needed a poor decision from the ref to get a sniff at the current United team without Rooney even being on the pitch.

A sensible summer spending with two or three good players bought will be more than enough to compete, especially in the league.

Ronaldo to Chelsea? Give me a break! Its Schurrle they are after. Clutching at straws I would say.

REDFAITH

Agree0 Disagree0

Red Man, I think there is every chance Fellaini could be preferred to Strootman by Moyes. I think the other targets won't change like Di Maria/Lew, but Moyes will certainly want Fellaini. If we went and bought Strootman would that mean Moyes is not pulling the strings?

REDFAITH

"A sensible summer spending with two or three good players bought". We have good players already but need top quality players and need at least one of them to be world level such as Bale, Ronaldo or Falcao.

I acknowledge we may have beaten Madrid and sadly we will never know but you seriously do not think we would have beaten any of the three other semi finalists?

Let us see what happens but if we are significantly behind City and Chelsea on the transfer front then we will be behind them in the league next season as I can't see either or both of them playing as poorly again. We need to see the owners really support Moyes and I have my concerns that they will at this vital time

Red Man

Red Man, Chelsea and City didn't play poorly this season. We were just better than them and more consistent. City only finished 7 points off last season's total. And they have not been playing their best for the last five games due to us already having won the league. Vincent Kompany has already said City overachieved last season. Difference this season is we beat them this season, whereas last season they beat us twice.

Chelsea finished 6th last season and 3rd this season, TEN points better off than last season. Chelsea and City didn't do poorly, we were just better than them. Like I said Red Man, you are a glass half empty kind of chap. At least when it comes to football.

Your opinion differs from most experts who acknowledge the fact Chelsea and particularly City did not perform.

You like your glass comment don't you, does it make you feel superior?

Be completely honest Red Man, when was the last time you wrote a positive post? We have just won the league by 11 points, our U21's have won the league. By the way you post you would think we were Liverpool FC.

I would agree City have underperformed a little, but equally their poor signings in the summer caught them out and highlighted their surprising lack of squad depth. But, even performing full on, I think they'd have struggled to keep pace with us.

Chelsea underperform? I don't think so. Their forward line is weak, they have no variety in the way they play and they have some poor players in their squad who wouldn't get a look in at United - Mikel, Moses, Cahill. Without serious spending in the summer, I would expect them to fall back behind Arsenal next season.

I don't think we were good enough to beat Bayern, Barcelona or Dortmund, but they are all excellent sides, and I suspect we would have given Bayern a much tougher game than Barce did.

It's easy to under-rate our own players. De Gea and Rafael are both heading toward the world class category (and might get there next season) and Jones won't be far behind. We do need to invest in a forward, a central midfielder and a winger, but surely we should be looking at how competitive we were this season and how much room for improvement we have and thinking that that is actually incredibly good news for us and bad news for everybody else?

@DL10

I would certainly trust the Eds more than the papers, especially with interest in players. Discussion with owners, agents and general money men is how I imagine the interest in players is found by the eds. Ed002 has been spot on with everything so far.

Sir Alex's retirement is a different case altogether, Ed002 surely cannot read his mind. He made a calculated statement about him being expected to retire next year with the information about Moyes being the preferred choice who could have taken the job at Schalke for a year or taken a year off. The news came as a surprise for the whole footballing community, including the media.

And when was the last time you were realistic or ambitious?

I enjoyed winning the title as much as anyone. In fact it felt even more special because there is a the unknown now and no matter how you try to put a slant on it we don't know what next season will bring and when we will do it again. Delighted for the U21's as well

Whete we differ is that I want more, I want Europe as well and too often we have fallen short. I want more ambition from the club.
There is no need for you to insult people and you do come over as trying to be superior over everyone.

As to Liverpool, well as I have said I remember 1992 (and before) and Anfield with the banners saying had anyone seen us win the league and too many here are now glorying in their shortfalls as they did with us and I hope it doesn't bite us back at some point.

I stood up for DeGea when some put him down, for Rafael whilst he still has a little to learn and said Jones is a real Manchester United player. It is what we do now that defines where we are going next. We need to make us competitive with Bayern etc and that is what I am looking for, then it will be bad news for everyone else and I would love that

Red Man

It doesn't matter whether City and Chelsea are better or worse than last year. We were better than we were the previous season hence won the league. But we are some way behind in Europe and that's why we should be judging our close season signings on getting the midfield engine we know we have been missing for some time AND a world class attacking option most likely to replace Rooney.

Ronaldo, Bale, Falcao and Lewandowski are rumoured to be targets and getting one if these higher profile hot properties is a must. Make no mistake these players will considerably strengthen whomever they join hence we must be in the bidding for them.

Heard that both Sir Alex and David Moyes will be at United under 21s match tonight against Spurs. Watch out for back page pictures of them sitting together in the stands.

Was that why Junuzaj not put on yesterday? Keep an eye on Cole, Vermijl and Keane? Discuss who to send out on loan and where to? Swap opinions about Spud?!

Loved Shappy's analysis of tactics few days ago, really insightful.

"I feel that next season the title race will be between Chelsea and Manchester City, with Arsenal not far behind. Fourth will be down to Tottenham, Manchester United, and Liverpool I feel. Can't see Moyes winning next season. "

The Liverpool banter site is always good for a laugh, isn't it? {Ed004's Note - I wouldn't be so confident until we see how we do in the transfer window. If Chelsea and City go out and spend hundreds of million and Arsenal spend the report 70-80 they have we need to spend to compete.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah but both City and Chelsea will have new managers next year. Mourinho will change many thing in their team as he usually does and I think they will get some time to settle. And even if our aqcuisitions this summer aren't the best we always have this United spirit and consistency with us so I think well be at least 2nd. Not to mention I find it very difficult that Liverpool will beat Tottenham or any other team for the fourth place.

Ed Arsenal won't spend anywhere near that sort of money. Its really funny how every May and June we see these media reports of an Arsenal transfer spend of 70 million on all these big names yet by September they've spent less than half the rumoured amount. My inner Kloot thinks its just made up to sell season tickets. I don't really see Wenger going mad in the market he's too frugal. Also they don't have a big player to sell this summer. City and Chelsea will spend but we'll not be able to match then anyway and they'll need to gel. We'll all be in the same boat regards new managers. Still say its between us and Chelsea. MrE {Ed004's Note - So do I but I don't think we should be cocky or over confident about anything not until we see the clubs ambitions}

Fergie's still around so he'll make sure the ambitions there. And Moyes is ambitious too. I'm sure he knows what he needs to do. And all the squad now have had that winning taste. The only thing that worries me is the money men and this Woodward fellow. You knew where you were with Gill. As you say its down to ambition, but winning stuff means you can sell more cheap plastic tat to tourists with champions printed on it so its win win really. got to speculate an all that. And as we keep saying we only need the right signings its not like its a total rebuild. Get the right four in this summer and I think we'll be alright. As Sydney said they always underestimate us. MrE

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsene Wenger's latest press conference says it all IMO. He is already making excuses for Arsenal's lack of ambition in the transfer market. You could say it's strategic and bluff, but history shows us they will net spend very little.

@Ed004

Make no mistake Manchester United's ambition every season is to win the league and CL. All clubs go about achieving it in a different way.

City's buy buy buy policy has got them success in the league, but they have been poor in Europe and we were way ahead this year in the league too.

Ironically, Chelsea couldn't achieve Champions league glory when they spent big but it happened after one of their quieter summers.

Real Madrid have spent millions trying to achieve success, brought on the supposedly invincible Mourinho but couldn't go the distance while a Dortmund side built with very less money has gone to the final.

United reached the CL final on the back of a summer where Chicharito was our big summer signing. I'm sorry but recent trends have shown that success isn't achieved by just spending big. Stability, squad morale, tactics, belief, workrate, squad size and luck are far more important than the amount spent imo.

That said I would love it if we spent big, but the negativity and fear of losing is becoming far too much here.

We should buy both Bender brothers. For comedy value alone it's well worth it.

If Moyes succeeds in getting Rooney to stay then ironically this "success" would be his first failure.
Rooney needs to be dispatched with - Not once but TWICE he has asked to leave and he is really nothing worth keeping. I really hope Moyes isn't here this week to convince him to stay - As Moyes detests Paul Stretford, Rooney`s agent, I doubt he will want Rooney anyway.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Careful what you wish for. do you really want a fully effective Rooney playing for one of our domestic or European rivals? any team he goes to, he will only make them better.

granted he's had a dip of form of late, but can't we forgive this 'cos we know how good he can be. we should be demanding that he takes care of himself and is fully fit but I don't mind indulging him throwing his toys out the pram every now and then. Rooney can't be accused of not putting effort in on the pitch and that's what counts.

that said, if Chelsea want to do a swap deal for mata then I'm all for it.

Id like to see a bid for khedira in the summer, Chelsea seem to have strong interest and if we get in early and Madrid are willing to sell then we might just pull it off. I've not seen enough of Strootman and if we can get Khedira for around the same money then I know who my choice would be! Can see there being bit of a fire sale at Madrid this summer so could be 1 or 2 bargains that would improve out team!

Thank you sir Alex for all the many years of success and happiness you've given us.
Let's hope for a fantastic summer transfer window. My dream will be, sell Rooney, nani and Anderson and possibly young.
Buy Ronaldo or bale, modric or gundogan, strootman and lewindawski. If we can achieve anywhere near these, I will be delighted.
Thank you to all eds and the other posters for making this a fantastic site. and let's hope we come back again refreshed and ready for no. 21
