Ed and also fellow posters, what do you think the future hold for Timothy Fosu Mensah? How will you rate him as a player and his latest loan deal with Fulham, they got relegated. he is more than quick and hold some simple passes. any future under Ole?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - Unfortunately I dont see him having a future here. He has never kicked on from his debut season}

20 May 2019 22:39:11
The future for TFM will be at another club, he has had two loan spells which have been awful (key point to remember with the likes of garner and greenwood when people say send them on loan to gain experience) .

Things could have worked differently for him had LVG stayed on, these two effectively wasted years have surely set his development back and there have been attitude issues on his part so he is not totally blameless.

But no reason he can't take a step down and still have a successful career in europe.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 May 2019 04:58:26
I think it will be best if TFM went back to Holland to play for someone like Feyenoord to get his career back on track.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 May 2019 08:57:51
Might be unlikely but I could see TFM having some opportunities next year.

His best positions are defensive midfielder or center back which are the team's weaker areas.

Playing Right Back at Palace and Fulham isn't a fair measure. Fulham was a massive mistake and he shouldn't have been sent there.

Agree1 Disagree1

21 May 2019 12:41:25
Yeah Fulham was a bad choice. We shouldn't be loaning players to relegation favourites. We need to be better matching players to clubs and ensuring that players are going there to play in their best position not making up numbers in a position the loan club is weak in. The last successful loan was probably Lingard.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 May 2019 13:23:27
He looked great under LVG. Never kicked on - but then again, never been given the chance - guess he’ll be off.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2019 17:30:36
I don't think he will get the game time he needs to kick on with us.

We have Lindelof, Smalling, Jones, Bailly, Rojo, Tuanzebe all ahead of him at CB. Plus we may well sign another CB this summer.

We have Young, Dalot and likely a new signing ahead of him at RB.

We have Matic, McTominay, Fred and possibly Garner ahead of him at CDM. Plus a possible new signing.

Going on loan to teams that haven't played him consistently and more often than not in his weakest position have held up his development.

I'm hoping a director of football would be able to sort out better loan deals for our young players at clubs where they will play and in their best position to aid their development. Although that doesn't sound like that is going to be part of the remit of whoever we hire.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 May 2019 19:14:27
All I would add is TFM looked a lot further along with a lot higher ceiling than McTom in his break through season.

I would say he is as good as Fred, Rojo, Jones, McTom and Young.

I think he'd be ahead of Garner based on physical basis too.

@Utd Road

Mate get your head out of the fire. Better than Fred? He's been one of maybe only 3 players to have played decent the last 10 games of the season. TFM couldn't get a look in at Fulham.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 May 2019 23:56:22
Fred has been awful. He played ok in Europe.

And as you say his best games coincided with our worst form in years.

Says it all.

Nice change of pace from the "we are doomed" posts that have littered the site over the past couple of weeks.

Some interesting reading, however, stats in isolation don't really tell us that much. They don't say the level of opposition, or the style of play, the individual or team tactics. They also don't tell us anything about the players mentality, which has been a key issue.

Koulibaly seems like he is everyones favourite, he would certainly be an improvement but then a 50 odd year old Steve Bruce would be an improvement on what we have.

I have two concerns about Koulibaly. First that his passing isn't as good as the statistics make out. For example he has a similar pass success rate to Smalling. Making a high number of 3-5 yard passes sideways does not make you good on the ball. Often like Smalling when he tries a more creative or ambitious pass he gives the ball away. Secondly, he has only been playing at an elite level for two seasons. Before that he was mediocre. For a player who will soon turn 28 that is a little concerning. Would he be able to adapt to a new league and maintain his current form? I'm not sure, and for a rumoured 100m+ you need to be damn well certain. We can't afford to spend big on another flop.

Totally agree Shappy. Also, Napoli are asking ridiculous money for him. I don't rate him when compared to de Ligt.
Also Diaz at Benfica is a better option. Even Ben Godfrey at Norwich is a good option. There's also Harry McGuire. All these are better options than Koulibaly.
My dream purchases will be de Ligt and Alderweild. And that'll sort out our defence, with the addition of a good RB.

remindes me of mangala at city look w that turned out he was supposed to be the next best thing to sliced bread.

Thanks for the responses.
Sure, this wasn’t meant to represent the full story but more provide something different. The biggest surprise for me was Ake. Especially when you consider the other factors you mention Shappy, here is a player performing well within a team that defensively hasn’t been the best, particularly away from home. Ake looks like a very underrated prospect to me.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 May 2019 17:06:57
Think it’s unfair to compare him to Mangala dazw. I watch a lot of Serie A and he has been the top cb over the past two seasons, and that’s with the likes of romagnoli, chiellini and skriniar being in the league.

I disagree to an extent shappy. Sure he is not as comfortable as De Ligt or Laporte on the ball but still He’s a very capable passer. Much better than he’s given credit for. You have to be decent if he’s played for sarri who likes to build from the back. I think what we lack is a bruising, big cb who commands the area and the back line. He fits the bill for me and his lack of quality on the ball can be made up by lindelof’s ability next to him.

park ment it more that the prem and italian league are different should of explained better he looks a good player but so did mangala especialy for the silly money being quoted.

Koulibaly gets caught out of position by centre forwards far too often for my liking. Bobby Moore wasn't the fastest over 10 yards but mentally he was very quick which meant he rarely got beaten. We do need a big defender like for example Jaap Stam who was just a great defender and could not be out sprinted or out muscled but Koulibaly does not seem to me to be the man we need. Yes he is definitely than most of the centre backs we have but I want us to have the best possible and not panic buy yet again.

It's unfortunate that we have made a rod for our own backs by paying too much in the past for lots of players but we now need to spend wisely.

Agree3 Disagree0

20 May 2019 23:43:53
I would not even consider Koulibaly for the amount of money they are demanding, we don't need another saga related to money and wages in the dressing room.
I would rather spend the less on players like Milenkovic, Romagnoli or even Issa Diop.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 May 2019 17:55:16
It’s crazy the way some of you are talking re Koulibaly. He’s an absolute monster, he’s quicker than most, stronger than most, taller than most and bloody well better than most.

You all mention “Ah i’d take Milenkovic over him” when damn well you never would have heard of Milenkovic, never mind even considered him, if it hadn’t been for Ed002 mentioning him as a possibility.

It’s laughable.

Agree2 Disagree2

21 May 2019 22:55:25
Mpez, I don't think anyone is saying Koulibaly isn't a good player, he is. And he is certainly better than what we have. But if rumours are to be believed we had an offer of 95m rejected, and they won't sell for anything less than 120m.
For a soon to be 28 year old defender who has only being performing at the top level for 2 years is too much for most people. I think that's fair comment.

I would just like to take a moment to tell you about two new features to the Manchester Rumours pages.

These changes have come about because of our advertisers collapsing, and in the process leaving us very much out of pocket.

Firstly, you will notice a Paypal donation button above the drop down menus just above the start of the posts. This is pretty much as it says on the tin, you can decide on the Paypal page whether this is to be a single donation or a monthly recurring donation until you decided to cancel it.

And anyone who does donate or subscribe with a monthly amount (any amount) will receive a Red Devil badge, next to their user name, for 30 days. Stand out from the crowd!

Secondly, is our sponsorship grid on the right of the page (currently on pc / laptop, soon to be on mobile) This is aimed at local, or national companies. For now this grid will be on both pages, with combined site views well over a million views a month.

So if you are a local Merseyside / Greater Manchester company, this is the ideal place to show yourself. You can buy one, or multiple squares, and spread your logo over them, they will also be click-able, with a link to your website. We hope, this helps our local companies as much as it helps us. To enquire on the price and duration of squares, click the red tab above the grid.

Thank you for your time.

My email on my login is different to my PayPal so I don't know if it will show up, but I'll continue to contribute to the site a's often as i can.

I hope this is a more fruitful way for you to keep operating these pages Ed because you just don't know what you've got until it is gone.

Amazing work to all the ed's and posters. This page is a home away from home!

Question for the Ed's, if Pogba and others are sold this Summer for £150m plus will that money be available for purchases in addition to monies already set aside?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - What money "set aside"?

20 May 2019 10:32:45
Surely they will have set some sort of budget?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It doesn't really work like this - what about all of the other costs - the agent fees, buying off players to move them on, taxes ..... How can you account for money from sales when that money might be spread over two or three years?}

20 May 2019 12:52:51

A question for the EDs or knowledgeable poster. What's the significance of United saying Pogba must make a formal transfer request? Does it trigger monetary clauses in his contract? Reduce any monies payable to him? Or his agent?
Just wonder why they would say that. I would think they would know if he wants to leave. Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It means that the 5% of the transfer fee the club would pay to the player are retained by the club.}

Does it not also help the club in that they can then say that it was the player not the club who wanted the sale. Helps prevent or reduce a backlash from fans against the club and so instead the player is seen as the evil one.

Think is trd liverpool just spent 75 million on a defender and absolutely smashed it.

That can be the difference.

Wouod they really reject 75 million.

Highly doubtful

We can be fannying about in this window otherwise we will fall further behind.

20 May 2019 11:39:38
Maguire and Koulibaly seem to be the two ‘top end’ centre-backs we are linked with and that seems to be the fee being banded about, simply based on VVD’s valuation. In my opinion there is a HUGE gulf in class between the pair. Maguire is nowhere near the level of Koulibaly or De Ligt, and may as well be in a different sport to Van Dyke.

Agree2 Disagree1

20 May 2019 11:43:13
Yes Bolger.
I do believe Koulibaly and Wan-Bissaka would completely transform our defence.

But the lack of champions league could make us a less desirable option.
