I'm fully aware this is a United site, but credit where credit's due, and Wigan have been brilliant the last few weeks! Without the financial fire power of the bigger teams, Martinez has done a great job and has got them playing some great, attractive football! Does anyone else see him as a potential replacement for Fergie? He's young, yet fairly experienced now, he has the respect of the players and fans, makes his team play the proper way and given the money that would be available to him at United, I think he could do a great job!

Isn't it good when it all comes together, I did say all we needed was for Rooney's & Nani's Mojo to return. Hope Young & Jones are okay, looking forward to Cleverley & Anderson returning, Anderson is a good player when United are playing well and Cleverley is Cleverley. Still like to see a creative midfielder in the summer, but when the teams tails are up, they can score bags of goals.

Liverpool drawing at Wigan, 12 points behind the champions. They cannot score with Suarez, imagine the struggle without him.

Got to say that liverpool have gone down in my estimation. Their handling of this whole thing is shameful. Their whole squad, Dalglish and all, are wearing a Suarez shirt, they've released statements without having the official verdict. They are making a real mess of this. If i was a black player who was a transfer target for them i would certainly think twice about signing for a team who so clearly dont understand the issue of racisim at all. Have to wonder if Evra played for Norwich would their defence of Suarez be so public?

Further to my earlier post suggesting Liverpool are handling the Suarez issue badly, they've done it again.

The Liverpool players have now issued a statement suggesting that they are Suarez mate and he's not a racist, (even though he has not been accused of being a racist) and they are "angered" by the FA decision (that he directed a racist comment to an opponent)! Why didn't they state this earlier, clearly he is not guilty of making a racist comment whilst in Liverpool's employment then. Glad that's cleared up!

Whatever PR advice this club is taking, they are getting this so wrong it is unbelieveable!

What they should do?
Wait for the decision explanation, and appeal if they believe they have grounds. These press releases are undignified and open to ridicule.

Liverpool FC don't seem to have grasped the reason why Suarez has been issued a ban and fine.

I find it funny reading peoples views on the Suarez/Evra case. Liverpool FC and their fans main argument is "How can the punish Suarez by going on Evra's words alone. It's just one word against another"

Well LFC and said fans, since your club released a statement claiming Suarez is innocent and the FA have said he's guilty. It's just your words against theirs. Why should we believe you?

''This is a business, not a charity. Like many of us thought back in September, he will sign a one year extension then be sold in January.''
Sydney!

Really syd? We are just a business now?
Aint you fond of calling players 'greedy mercenaries' when the treat football like a business and try to maximise their financial gain, e.g sniejder, aguero, nasri...
It all seems abit hypocritical to me.
Please explain to me how it's right for the club to mistreat berbatov( who pushed for a move to our club, stated that he would love to spend the rest of his career at o.t and was our top scorer last season) purely for financial gain.
We could release him. Am sure a few top clubs would be interested in him on a free, e.g inter, A.C, possibly bayern. That would Allow him to salvage his career and win a few more trofies. This is the right thing to do given that we re the ones that dont want him and his done nothing wrong BUT NO, we cant do that because money should come before everything else including being loyal or being ethical.
Is this the message we want to send out to our players and prospective players?
Because players will fill that, if the club can behave in a 'mercenary like' fashion then so can they. If so, we should expect more of the rooney, progba, nasri, sniejder sagas.

With Jones playing so well i really can't see Rodwell being brought in, certainly not in January. I think it will be between him and Khedira in the summer who will come in.

Creativly i reckon Gaitan will come in, i've had my doubts, but it just seems like the sort of player that we would go for, not a superstar by any means, someone who we can mould into a great player. Also i think Shaqiri will make an appearence in the next couple of windows.

So what's the line-up going to be tonight then lads? I think Welbeck will keep his place, he works hard to make space and he needs a run of games to get to his best. He has put away two offside goals this season, he had that cracking shot against QPR. I don't think it will be long until he is knocking them in far more regularly. I think Lindegaard may get the nod tonight, just a hunch.

I can't believe how badly Liverpool FC are handling the Suarez issue.

Firstly, Liverpool claim that the incident was Evra's word against Suarez, and therefore cannot be proven. However, the main thrust of their defence was that they admitted the "negrito" word was directed at Evra, but is not a racist term in Suarez's country. This is notwithstanding that Suarez has worked in northern Europe for the past 4 years and therefore undermines the mitigation of cultural difference. They have admitted themselves that Suarez used a word that is consistant with reference to Evra's race/colour, which is basically the FA charge, so the issue that this is one player's word against another is completely erroneous.

Secondly, the statement Liverpool issued last night was an irresponsible knee jerk reaction. Firstly it was made without receipt of the FA's written reason for the disciplinary decision, and was incredibly vindictive and dismissive in tone.

Thirdly, how did Liverpool FC allow an employee to represent them who believes that using this language in the course of their employment is acceptable? An employer, used to managing internation employees, should take a level of responsibility

Hopefully someone will sit down with Dalglish and point out that, although noone, including Evra, is suggesting that Suarez is a racist, his comment(s) were unacceptable in a society that values that directing comments to another human being that are based on their skin colour/race is unaaceptable.

Liverpool FC's and Dalglish's reputation is being tested here. They would do well to think through what they are defending, and how they are being perceived by the wider population.

i know thAT WITH JONES AND CARRICK IN THE CENTRE OF THE PITCH THERE IS NOT MUCH CREATIVITY. but i think the way that they sit back and pull the strings is really letting nani rooney valencia hernadez and welbeck really interchange positions and the attacking side of them is something that will bring the fear factor back. i thought carrick was brilliant since he joined up untill the champions league final against Barca in 2009 and tbh i think he has been far from the player he was since then but at the end of last season and the last few games he has really shown his true quality. as for Jones this kid is something special he is and will be a worldbeater.

I know your all probably sick of hearing from LFC fans but please bear with me.
Despite anyones allegiances, the fact is Suarez was NOT charged with being a racist. He was charged with 'misconduct', in other words he used abusive language, using whatever words you wish to use.
Patrice Evra has also admitted using abusive words to Suarez, therefore like Suarez he is presumably also guilty.

But my point is this:

Rooney uses abusive and foul language in EVERY game he plays in. He swears constantly at referees. This will presumably now be regarded by the FA as misconduct. The floodgates will now open. Every time Rooney or indeed ANY MUFC players swears on TV there will be a call for charges of misconduct to be used.

The game has gone silly. Suarez and Evra gave each other verbals and now Suarez has an EIGHT game ban and he is being treated like a racist.... despite the fact that Evra or the FA dont think he is racist!

Any fair minded supporter will have misgivings on this FA verdict, the rest of the world are bemused at the stance taken by the FA, and so am I. Suarez is a family man and by all accounts a very decent lad. The whole saga was initiated by Fergie taking Evra to the ref and he has now stood back and let everyone else crucify Suarez.

Sat and read all these comments re Evra and Suarez. I have got to say that the reaction of liverpool and their fans is appalling. First of all, the evidence they are all quoting is a statement from liverpool, a statement made without them getting the written explanation of the verdict. How they can attack Evra without seeing the verdict is nothing short of shameful.

Secondly, i like every one else read the papers, and i read several quotes from Suarez admitting that he used the said term and that it wasnt an insult in Uraguay. Well theres the missing evidence liverpool fans cant seem to find. Suarez played in Holland, a multicultural society and i would assume he never used the term there. The defence of being ignorant to the offence caused is unacceptable.

Liverpools conduct throughout this whole thing has been a disgrace. They have tried to wield their influence by repeatidly talking about the incident dispite the Fa telling them not too. To suggest that nobody else heard the taunt therefore it couldnt have happened is ridiculous. If i went up and whispered sweet nothings in king kennys ear does that mean it didnt happen. To say believing Evras word is wrong, should they believe Suarez instead? Whats the difference?

The Fa must now come down on Terry with equal force and, as the captain of england, it is their duty to expell him from international football for good. Thats when we will see if they stick to their guns. If on the other hand Terry gets off then i would agree that Suarez has been made a scapegoat, much like Rio and the test, but is none the less guilty.

Just my thoughts on the matter....I'm a little disappointed in the length of punishment. If the FA believe that Suarez made racist remarks, then the ban should be considerably longer. What sort of industry is this where a player in such a privaliged position can say such things on such a grand stage and be fined about 3 days wages and receive an 8 game ban? Thre media and alike hounded Rooney for his behaviour when he swore towards the camera with outcry from the public about how he is a poor role model for their children. Surely such behaviour in todays society is worthy of a longer ban? I wouldn't consider double the length of that ban harsh, if the FA were sure that the remarks were of a racist nature - I would lose my job if i called someone the alleged word where i work.

Regardless of whether that terminology is acceptable in other countries is irrelevant in my eyes. He has been playing in Europe for a number of years and must be aware that that wort of behaviour is unacceptable as i'm sure he's aware that biting an opponent is also unacceptable.

I wouldn't care how long a Utd player was banned for, if they had been found guilty - i wouldn't want them in our club.

Regarding Suarez the punisnment for Suarez should be one match ban for being ignorant of cultural difference about using certain types of words. Evra on the other hand should get 5 match ban for using words that are known to be offencive in South American/Spanish speaking countries.

if i could just clear something up,

i am not saying this just because i am a utd fan but legally speaking saurez does have a leg to stand on. Before people kick off, my wife is a sports industry lawyer and has assured me that although considerably dumbed down, is all legally sound.

As saurez admitted that he did say it, all the fa would need is evidence that saurez knew this would be unacceptable behaviour, and before anyone tries to claim that he did not, professional clubs are legally required to 'educate' all employee's on discrimination in the workplace and then must sign to show they have complied with these requirements (employment act 2008).
this is a mandatory requirement and are usually done along with the other requirements such as the dangers of the work place, health & safety, fire protocols etc etc. it is also common practice to have such clauses written into their contracts so he really has no defence

i think it is also important to remember that he was NOT found guilty of racism but of misconduct, which he still cant argue against.

for those who think that his appeal will be overturned on the basis that other players use the same name well this is NOT an adequate defence, if you pick the ball up in the middle of the park, you cant then turn to the ref and say 'its ok the gk does it all the time' its still handball, the same way saurez cant tell the fa 'its ok coz so does everyone else' it just means cases can be brought against those who can be proved also used said remarks or were stupid enough to admit to it as saurez was.

ps sorry for the long post and the handball scenario was only for explanation purposes, i do not believe handball is comparable to racism but mearly its hypothetical justification

if indeed man utd players call evra- negrito , then any case against luis is null and voild , because the word can be misinterpreted -meaning the set of circumstances or facts that surround a particular event or situation can be used for the word , you either have the word negrito banned totatally on the pitch by everyone or you dont , in a court of law it would come down to this - utd players use this term as a pet name , while if indeed luis said this , it could be that luis was doing the same , or trying to wind evra up about what his team mates were calling him , indeed evra admits himself that luis is not a racist , the whole crust of the matter is this term cannot be used by one team in one way, and proved to be not the same by the other team ie- luis , so a appeal should take care of this , and a total ban will have to be put in place for the use of this term - full stop, by any player- team ................lfc
