Thanks Shane,

Don't want to be pedantic but he is at OT in that picture, did some promotional shots yesterday at the ground for the unveiling.

Hello Eds, has United shown any interest in Toni Kroos? For me, he would be the perfect signing for a midfield three as the #8. His passing ability would really unlock the defense and allow Pogba to properly push forward into the final third.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Not since the summer.}

21 Jan 2018 20:20:45
Milinkovic Savic had another brilliant game against Chievo, he's strong, fast, elegant on the ball but a powerhouse at the same time, would be perfect alongside Matic and Pogba!

Yes two extremely expensive signings in the middle of the park is not enough. United need another one ASAP. Buy, buy, buy.

Agree1 Disagree14

21 Jan 2018 20:48:44
He was really good again. I've been watching him a lot since ed002 said he was our no1 target. He also said it would be really expensive and that there is serious competition.

Agree1 Disagree1

21 Jan 2018 20:50:29
He is a brilliant player who I was saying I wanted a day or so ago, but having thought about it, is he too similar to pogba? Could you fit him and pogba in the same team? I am not sure.

It hurts to say that as I really want him at United. But it would be a massive transfer fee, significant wages to potentially spend time on the bench or would we drop pogba?

Would Jorginho be a better option as he is slightly better at the defensive side, but also has the creativity and passing range.

There is the age old dilemma. Carrick, Fellani, gone this summer. so we need to replace. If we went for Vidal we would get stick because of his age and salary, if we went for the kid from Belgium leodoncker? would he be one for the future, although the dutch youngster clasie and the one who went to Everton in the summer we were linked with didn't do great.

Sign a drinkwater? no thanks. A kante for 30 mill. great. where do you get one of them? promote from within? yes please so who is good enough, I don't see anyone to be ready 6 months from now to compete at the highest level in PL and CL

That leaves going out and getting a big name established player or one well on the way to being at the top of their game which will cost a shed load . what's wrong with that?

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 20:09:15
Is there any interest in Vidal herd we will be wanting to get him in summer? Would be a cracker this?

8 points clear of Spurs in 5th, a win against them would make a top 4 finish seem most likely even with 13 games to go.

Failure to press home the advantage after other teams' slip-ups has been a feature of United for the last few seasons. Now is the time to lay down a marker and show the fans and the rest of the league that this United team is made of sterner stuff.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

21 Jan 2018 19:21:12
Although he has a poor record against them, wouldn't be surprised to see Sanchez score the winner.

I love the Sanchez signing
I would like to sign lucas moura this window as well.
I really don't wanna lose mata but we might in the summer so go ahead and get money for him now.
In the summer go out and get world class midfielder.

21 Jan 2018 17:19:45
Brazilian Walcott. No thanks.

21 Jan 2018 18:34:23
Hard no on Moura.

I donā€™t think we need to sign anyone else unless people leave.

In summer we have TFM back for Rb, AP back for CM so with Fellaini gong plus say Mata and Herrera I think we will go for an midfielder, winger and CB.

21 Jan 2018 22:45:26
Mata is worth 10 Mouras. Love the little genius.

Hi Eds, quick question. Do United plan on attempting any other signings this window or will Sanchez be it for the window? Thanks in advance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I cannot comment sensibly on the timing of transfers.}

21 Jan 2018 16:09:02
I thought I would watch Hearts v Hibs to see how Dmitri Mitchell went on.

I hope Ed007 will forgive me but the football is like I watched 20 years ago and that is even for allowing it being a cup tie derby. Very physical and lacking in quality, the ref letting so much go . As to Demitri, looks like he has a nice touch, moves the ball well, puts in a good cross with his left foot. He completed the game on a taxing pitch (probably a lack of previous game time didn't help) and it seemed to take its toll on him but a very tidy debut. I hope the physicality of the league helps him develop.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - It was a bloody dire game mate, you won't get any arguments from me on that front.}

21 Jan 2018 17:23:27
Far better experience playing in real games for the lad than the dross that is u23ā€™s. Thought he did ok, also think the 16 yr old harry Cochranā€™s looks one for the future.

21 Jan 2018 20:55:19
I am glad to hear it is not just me that found the standard of football dire. It was good that DM stood out as a little bit of quality albeit he ran out of steam. Totally agree playing on the sticky pitches in a physical league will do him the world of good.

Alright there boys. Now that Sanchez is all but done does Jose have to change his mind set, we will be getting one of the best attacking players in the world but will we be playing defensive, no good having a big bus if you can't drive it.

Believable3 Unbelievable6

21 Jan 2018 17:08:12
Jose had good attackers at Madrid. Wasn't much bus parking.

Agree4 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 18:06:04
Have we ā€˜parked the busā€™ that often this season? I only remember doing it twice to be honest.

Agree3 Disagree2

21 Jan 2018 19:45:21
I donā€™t think we park the bus much, but we havenā€™t been dominating the way we used to. I guess itā€™s swings and roundabouts, we had great posseshion stats with LVG but were dire, we now look much better but need to work on dominating more consistently. Burnley are a functional team and for much of the game it looked 50/ 50 but we have players who can make a real difference. Hopefully with Sanchez we give the opposition more to worry about.

I actually enjoyed the second half of the Burnley game despite the pressure we came under. It opened up and we had several chances to finish it on the break. On another day we would have took a couple of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 15:53:44

Savic of Lazio is no.1.

Agree6 Disagree1

21 Jan 2018 20:20:08
100 % angelred. I watched the Lazio game this weekend against Chievo and he got another couple of goals. He really does look the real deal. If the rumours are true and weā€™re also interested in Seri then those 2 would be great targets. I really think we need a cm who sits and plays the simple passes. Someone much like Carrick. From what Iā€™ve seen of Seri, he does exactly that.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 21:00:42
Jorginho at Napoli seems to be similar to Carrick, keeps it simple, can pass forward, can hit. Cross field pass and can defend.

I love SMS, but worry he is too similar to pogba, could you play both in the same team? Donā€™t get me wrong I would love SMS at Utd, as he has good feet, can beat a player, can play one twos, but wonder if Jorginho would offer better balance.

Yeh I saw that Deano. They were all ripping him to pieces when he said as a Newcastle fan that he wished that keegan had been more like mourinho in some games in the 96 season. He said they would be premier league champions rather than that ā€˜entertainingā€™ side that nearly won the league.

All these Journo, s keep making stories up about Utd, I think they realise we're slowly on our way back, what's worrying though is where was Sanchez all day Saturday, they reported he left Arsenal, s team Hotel at 11pm, Friday night, and was seen this morning boarding a flight to Manchester,? I suppose it sells papers.

{Ed002's Note - Why do you bother reading the papers if not to lap up all of these little snippets?}

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 12:07:29
Afternoon folks. I think we need to talk about Rashford. I'm a huge fan of his but this season he has been really poor for large portions of it. Everything that made him stand out and make the breakthrough over the last couple of seasons has gone from his game. This isn't a reaction from the game yesterday but his decision making has been appalling. He consistently makes the wrong one time and time again. Instead of using his pace to attack wingers, he now has a tendency to slow the game up, almost like a really cocky winger would do, trying to beat players with flair and trickery when that's not in his locker. He's getting an almost Ronaldo like style for trying to burst the net from all different distances.

This dip in form is an inevitable one in a player so young, bit with the impending signing of Sanchez and Martial kicking on to the next gear, I think Marcus needs to go back to what got him here in the first place and stop trying to be something he's not otherwise we could have a lot of lost potential on our hands.

Believable9 Unbelievable0

21 Jan 2018 14:25:40
I agree he's not been playing to his level mate, but he's young so hopefully it's just temporary. I think he needs to keep coming on as sub, and maybe start the fa cup games till he regains his confidence and decision making.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 14:34:27
Been saying it for so long. Glad others share the same concern for the lad.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed004's Note - I also maintain that's he best playing as a striker and think him and Lukaku should be alternated more often to keep both fresh. Let Lingard and Martial compete on the left and play Sanchez on the right with Mata covering}

21 Jan 2018 14:45:08
Rash is going through a dip it happens.
Martial made it 3 in 3 with another great finish .
Looks a better player when not stuck on the touchline trying to be a winger.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 16:01:45
I think a lot of the Utd players decision making needs to improve in college pogba and martial! There is a selfish side to a few of our forwards this season which particularly showed last night and I'm sure mouriniho and his staff will be stressing it! Great talents mind you but just need to be cleverer! Hopefully a clever player like Sanchez to learn from will help as well as zlatan when he's back in training!

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 14:52:29
With Lukaku/ Martial/ Sanchez and Zlatan (as Ed2 mentioned in the podcast, his replacement), where does Rashford fit? It was a straight battle between him and Martial, he has lost out and that has shown on him. He has become selfish trying too much trying to get his numbers up. Bjt he doesn't hv a football brain and as the OP says, he has also forgotten what got him here.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I was thinking more of how we would use him next season when Ibra leaves. However I don't think he has had enough opportunities up top this season}

21 Jan 2018 16:40:52
I get your point Ed, but Zlatan will be replaced in the summer and it wobt be Rashford. Ed2 mentioned the likes of Lewandowski. Really don't see how Rashford moves ahead of that strikeforce. He has got several chances but he has simply gone backwards. He has not just messed his chances but he has messed up chances for others too.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I can't see us getting someone like Lewandowksi because neither he nor Lukaku will want to be second choice and we don't play with two strikers. I'd probably let Mata go and sign a replacement for him and let Rashford compete up top. Either way if Rashford can't cope then Martial or Sanchez can cover up top}

21 Jan 2018 20:13:22
ill probably get slated by some but i think that rashford needs a loan tbh. to go out and play week in week out as a main striker. that's probably his best chance of getting to play up top for us. i think there would be quite a lot of interest from decent teams so we he wouldn't have to go to a team fighting relegation. could really be the making of him. i think somewhere like burnley would be a great shout for him. they are a team that play with no fear and are a drastically improved side with no star player as such. the ginger mouriniho is there manager aswell ;) or maybe to somewhere like everton.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 12:04:50
Some people suggesting that Vidal may join on a free in the summer
Whatā€™s peopleā€™s thoughts on that? Looks like a big money Tom Cleverley to me.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

21 Jan 2018 14:13:44
Are you joking? Heā€™s class youā€™ve obviously never watched him play.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed004's Note - I would be a bit concerned. No doubt a world class player but doesn't he have a lot of baggage}

21 Jan 2018 14:20:23
Think we all can agree that in some games a midfield 3 is needed. Herreras declining form in 2017, Carricks retiring and fellaini apparent contract stand off makes signing 1 or 2central midfield a priority.

If we go big then it has to be Dybala. Vidal on his last leg. If signed Vidal then his role would be as cover to matic and playing the odd 15-20 games mostly cup and from the bench. wouldn't think it would appeal to him.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 14:27:44
i thought this rumour would resurface now that Alexis is joining due to the Chile connection. I know he has had a few injury problems (knees i believe) but if he can stay fit he will be an incredible signing. Always wish we had signed him when he left Juve. Would be perfect in midfield. I say if there is a chance then we must make it happen, especially on a free. The guy is class and I think chelsea have been sniffing around him.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 14:37:49
He can be a loose canon at times and is almost guaranteed to be sent off a couple times in a season. He would bring a lot of fight into our midfield. If heā€™s available we should be fighting for his signature.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I do think we need two midfield signings if we are to play 433. Vidal/another box to box cm and Weigl would be good business}

21 Jan 2018 14:46:39
Milinkovic-Savic although seems he might be difficult due to a lots of teams being interested.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 16:03:40
I want someone to play alongside matic who loves a tackle and and control matches with their passing ability and then push pogba further up!

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 16:41:56
Kante would have been the dream signing and perfect foil for matic and pogba. I think Weigl is class ed he reminds me of Carrick in him pomp. Milinkovic Savic is the player we should move heaven and earth for but he will be extremely expensive. Matuidi would have been a steal before for us when he left PSG. I would prefer to have creativity rather than someone who is an engine as we lack creativity at times in the middle this season. So Vidal or Weigl would my ideal picks seeing as though Milinkovic Savic May be difficult to attain.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 17:22:14
Another typical, ready-made JosƩ player. If we need a central midfielder for the short term, there's a lot worse out there. Still prefer Sshnider, tho.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 13:48:15
I am sure we are all ecstatic at the Sanchez signing, another top player signing for city would have seen them move further ahead. We have now proved that we can compete and are willing to compete which is great for the club and for us as fans, for so long we complained about the Glazers so I'm delighted they are now realising what we need to do to be successful.

If anyone still isn't sure about how good a signing this is have a read down the page, look at any post from a Liverpool fan clutching at straws as to why this is such a terrible deal and how United are ruining football etc (after they just paid over the odds for a centre half) . The jealousy is there for all to see, they are gutted we aren't the sinking ship they have been convincing themselves we are and I am absolutely loving it, every post on here from them is making me happier and happier.

I made a point of remembering the celebrations from visiting clubs at OT when we lost so many games under Moyes and Lvg, Swansea beating us twice etc and loving it so much, losing 3-0 to Liverpool and City with seemingly no plan. It's that feeling of being gutted that makes winning and becoming better so much better.

Great time to be a united fan, this signing should give us all a big lift.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 16:47:21
The moyes effect set us back. think most fans would not underestimate how damaging shorterm and long term that appointment had on us.

Thought the 2014- 2016 purchases were a bit scatter gun with Falcao ( we had 4 strikers so no need for him), Di Maria ( heart was not in it), Schneiderlin ( decent squad player but we needed more in midfield, Bastian (unfit) .

Glad that up to now Bailly, Matic, Pogba, Lukaku, Lindelof have been good. not great as yet but getting there in terms of individual performances.

So Sanchez purchase is more than welcomed and adds that touch of world class into the forward line.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 16:55:02
Spot on gds it almost beggars belief the way a negative spin is being put on this transfer by some šŸ˜‚

Let's be perfectly clear there isn't a single club in this country who wouldn't love to have Sanchez including the greatest club side in the galaxy and guess what? We got him .

So all the salty bitters that are on here talking pap can do one šŸ˜.

If we can somehow cut City"s lead to 6 points by the time we play them, then its squeaky bum time.

I doubt we could overhaul em but if by the end of the season, we finish second behind City by single digit, win a cup or 2 ( long shot i know), with talk of Jose extending his contract and Sanchez arrival then i will be happy . not ecstatic but happy. We are United we are obligated to fight for the league.

Would it constitute a decent season if any of the above happen guys?

Hi guys.

New poster here. I am from Asia.

First supported United in 1985.The jersey and Robson got me hooked though my old man tried his best to make support Hoddle and Spurs.

Love The stone roses as well. Hence the name.

Hope to have insightful online posting with fellow Reds.

Thanks.

Nice to see the club continue to show ambition to be number 1.

Beastie mate are you excited about Sanchez signing? I know you have questioned the clubs ambition and Jose at times which I have agreed with. However, letā€™s say we had the Monaco manager in charge, do you think he would have been able to lure Sanchez over pep to united?

I do think that Jose was part of the lure for Sanchez. He is still a top 3 in the world manager and I do feel that we have been able to sign a higher calibre of players because they want to play for him.

Just seen a video of miki arriving to a London hotel. Rojo was there giving him a hug.
Miki had a little smirk but that was it, followed by rubbing tears from his eyes. I'm happy Sanchez is arriving but I can't help but feel the way we went about with miki was upsetting. I've always been proud of my club of being a big family. Yes miki was not on form but the way he's been treated had no doubt affected his confidence. I wish him good luck and hope he gets back to his best and hopefully, enjoys a happy stay there. Good luck Henrikh.

I agree trumours I really wanted it to work for him and he seems like a lovely bloke but I donā€™t think he is cut out for the style that Jose wants to play. He seemed to lack the mental toughness needed to succeed at united. Immensely talented but a bit soft. I hope he has a successful career at arsenal (not too successful šŸ˜‚) and that he hits some of the form whilst at Dortmund because he was one of Europeā€™s elite creative players in his last season there.

Totally agree, mate. I cringe when I hear our fans use terms like, 'deadwood' to describe our players, or the way they glibly say such and such should be shown the door and we'll bring in such and such instead. I don't care whether you've played one game for the club, or 100, you're part of the rich history of this club. The more hard-headed business-minded, win at all costs type amongst our fans, will accuse me of being too emotional about transient employees, but I have total respect for any player that comes to the biggest club in the world, and tries their best. I hope he does well at a club I respect, and we'll always have Stockholm.

I was delighted whem Miki signed. Been following him for a few years and it was a suprise signing that hot my excited.

He showed flashes of genius. He played a major role last year in the Europa League and started the season with a bang. I thought we had the real Miki.

Then after 6 games he just fell to peices. Jose hammered him in the media and that's probably the first time it happened in his career. His confidence was shattered. He suddenly seemed to be 'not a jose player. '

As a person he seems like a really nice guy. I really hope he has a blinder for Arsenal and puts them back into the top 4 next season and then a move to a really big club that suits his style more.

To be fair unless any of us know Miki, none of us can say how he behaved at the club. Always seemed a bit sulky to me but thatā€™s only my perception.

To me, Nani was far more consistent than him and we all know how much grief he gets on here for having the talent and not using it week in week out.

Wouldnā€™t cry too much over him. Sounds like he is getting a pay rise and heā€™s moving to Arsenal whereā€™l he will enjoy his football more not Sunderland etc. I for one wonā€™t miss him at our club.

Secondly we are swapping him for Sanchez - what a great
Deal.

Frank Lampard on Sanchez: ā€œItā€™s not like heā€™s turned down City to go to China. Heā€™s gone to one of the biggest, if not the biggest club in the world in Manchester United. ā€

Finally, some sense spoken in the media, and by fat Frank of all people. Welcome to Manchester, Alexis.
