Danny, the moment you mentioned " a midtable defender". Where did shaw play?
Il not highlight that statement, youve embarrased yourself enough.
Lovren was the best CB along with kompany last season and.Edd001 will back that up. Can he improve? Ofcourse
Syd, not once over 2 years have.i asked or mentioned hummels except for today asking edd002 was hummels PL bound and that he's a very good defender.
Gents, time for a break of the page ;)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Cahill and Terry were both better than Lovren last year, and that's hard for me to admit

Agree0 Disagree0

The difference being 6 years. Shaw is a young talented player who became a regular first team EPL player by the age of 18. Lovren is a solid player (hardly the second best cd in the league, and miles of the standard of Hummels) but the fact that Liverpool are willing to pay so much money for him highlights how much they are struggling to sign players good enough to compete at the top level.

Agree0 Disagree0

Al, Shaw was 17/18 last season. It's not the same thing. Is Lovren an improvement on either of Agger or Skrtel? If he is then is he a £20m better player? Not really.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agger is finished lovren is miles better

Agree0 Disagree0

Danny, it highlights the fact that in this day and age with the increased television money that the prices for every player in the premier league are becoming inflated. Shaw was massively over priced, as was Lallana as was Borini. The price for Lovren is not out of the ordinary. Lovren looks a bargain when you consider we seem to be receiving 14 mil for Borini. I wouldn't say Lovren was 2nd best in prem but definitely top 5. With Kompany, Distin, Terry and possibly Cahill being the others.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jul 2014 00:50:53
Al,

You are embarrassing yourself tonight mate, you are right it is the perfect time for a break off our page, go and concentrate on signing average players for your champions league failure and we will keep rebuilding.

Agree0 Disagree0

Didn't Borini refuse to move to Sunderland? No £15m anymore.

Shaw had a huge fee, but he is an exceptional young prospect who will only get better with age. I can even see why Liverpool were willing to pay over the odds for Lallana because he fits with Rodgers system. But there are far better cbs available for less than £20m (and Southampton aren't even willing to accept that). My point is that there is a reason Liverpool have been doing their shopping exclusively at Southampton. Lovren is a good player, who would probably improve Liverpool's defence. But he isn't worth anything close to £20m and the only reason Liverpool are entertaining the prospect of paying this much for him is because they are incapable of attracting top quality players proven at the highest level.

Agree0 Disagree0

I still think the move is in the balance Danny, but regardless whether it goes through or not. They agreed that price. Borini is a decent player but 14 mil for him is a amazing figure! Which shows how much the price for players has inflated.

I agree with what you say about Shaw but that is still a huge amount. Even players who aren't top quality proven players are fetching ridiculous transfer fees.

Given Lovren is only 25, is already a good well established premier league defender, 20mil is not a bad price in today's market. I'm not sure there are any better options for the price who are of a similar age and have premier league experience. But just my opinion.

The point about us only looking at Southampton players is quite self explanatory. When Spurs sold Bale they bought players from all around the globe. Not being able to speak the language properly and adapting to a new country. This led to them looking very disjointed. These players at Southampton already live here and know the premier league. They'll adapt to the Liverpool way quickly. And all 3 of them fit the Rodgers way very well and improve the team. Just because they haven't signed from massive European teams or whatever doesn't really matter.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I think both sides of this argument are being somewhat disengenous.

Rodgers to be fair to him is buying premier league proven players. Probably some sense in this as unless you get genuine world class (arguably even then) there's plenty of risk that players from foreign leagues won't adapt. We all know that comes with a price premium. In terms of premier league prices 20 mill for lovren probably isn't too far off the mark.
Also with our stunning capture of Afro man for 27 million last year we can hardly crow about value for money.

That said I don't think he will improve Liverpool all that much. Time will tell I guess.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jul 2014 10:07:28
I rate Evans as highly as lovren when he's fit.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just wondering how much did Liverpool pay for borini in the first place?

im gutted Evra left without some kind of send off.

I grew up in France and if you guys understood french you would love him even more: every chance he got in the media he made a point of bragging about wearing the shirt and saw this as his biggest achievement.
he also took immense pride from Sir Alex naming him captain. if any french speakers read this I strongly suggest you check out 2 interviews: 1 with Darren Tullet and the other on Telefoot (MOTD in france).

My favorite player since Ronaldo left

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree, one of my favourites of the last 10 years. Remember reading how he made a point of learning all about the clubs history when he signed. A true United man, I wish him all the best in future.
Thanks Patrice.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hes served us a lot over the years, although he was in decline last few years but still wore his heart out best of luck tk him.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wish him all the best he has been a great servant for utd, great character, passioinate and until the last 2 seasons a fantastic player that played for the shirt.

Does anybody think Little Als 'banter' has something to do with what his club are doing?

Liverpool came 2nd in the league right? (that's sort of winning it I guess) so they're now a MUCH bigger club than us. Congratulations Liverpool.

Poor ol' United suffered their worst EPL season ever and find themselves finishing 7th. (might as well join the championship now? eh.)

yet when the season has closed, all has been said and done, and the transfers come out to play, what do we find? we find the mighty Liverpool showing the world that they're still a selling club, so not only do they sell the SUPERSTAR, mr. Liverpool, King Kenny back from the grave mr SUAREZZZZZ!

but they also find themselves battling it out for players like; Ben Davies, Diame, Lambert, Lallana (who isn't that bad, but he's not great), Bertrand, Remy, etc.

while poor ol' little club United on the other hand have started clearing out players who were on their last legs (rio, Vidic and Evra), we've starting selling off the deadwood (Bebe, Anderson? Nani? Young? - maybe next)

not to mention we've started buying some top draw talent. the best LB in the EPL last year Luke Shaw, (don't forget I'm a spaniard) We've signed Herrera who will be a top player, not a great player, but a Ramires type player, gets the job done, well respected but not lusted after.

Then, not only that but we're looking at world class players like Hummels, Vidal, Di Maria, etc. and we seem to be making progess in signing them which is brilliant.

AND We've signed a worldie of a manager, known the world over for being a ruthless, successful S.O.B, the Sensei behind Jose Mourinho and Josep Guardiola, we've signed the one, the only VAN GAAL!

So, to recap;

Liverpool;
positives:
Finish 2nd (1st in their eyes), best club in the world again.

Negatives:
Selling their best player, signing pathetic, dross replacements, looking at 'average' at best players like Bertrand and will most likely have a return to form and finish 8th.

Also, let's not forget that now EVERBODY knows how little brenda plays, so the element of surprise is now gone. DUN DUN DUNNNN!

Manchester United:

Positives:
Signed Herrera, Signed Shaw, sold ageing players and some deadwood, looking at REALISTICALLY signing Vidal, Hummels, etc. Being linked with world class talent like Cavani and Kroos.

Signed a top draw manager, who inspired and TAUGHT the current best managers in the world (Guardiola and Mourinho)

Still proving to be a big club.

Negatives:

Finished 7th.

Have a nice week everybody.

P.S THE MOON IS BACK IN ORBIT BABY!

I love the post. Might have been worth Waiting til Hummels and Vidal were in United Shirts though lol

Agree0 Disagree0

La Luna, great to have you back, I adore this post

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 23:04:58
Nice one #Moon, I am a big LVG supporter I have been on a load of courses he has coached and spoken at, I've seen him at real close quarters and he is a master coach he will improve any player who cares to listen, he will cause offence occasionally and he will upset some people but that is his way. if you buy in to him and are loyal to him you will thrive if you step outta line or don't carry out instruction you will be out It will be a bumpy ride so hang on tight but we will be winning trophies before long I have no doubt and if we do sign vidal and humells and a pacey dribbler cuadrado robben reus di maria we will win the league IMO
With those signings and our new coach I think everybody will have the fear factor playing us again and rightly so.

Agree0 Disagree0

Iv been waiting for a while to see if anyone would comment on your post. Seems not all manu fans are as confident as you. Use have just bought a couple of whipper snappers and have been linked with everyone as usual. But that's it. YNWA

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't believe you even took the time to write a post about a liverpool fan, I have 0 interest in anything liverpool fans say to be honest and I find it extremely odd that a liverpool fan would even bother coming to this page. I wouldn't dream of going on there page not even to wind people up,id rather banter man city fans and just ignore bitter liverpool fans who seem more worried about what we are doing than what there doing them selves. they can sing there 5 times and there king kenny songs all they want but its man utd 20 liverpool 18 and they just can not get over it and we will never ever be caught by them, not in my lifetime anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jrobbm - We're in for them though, we haven't necessarily got to sign them, we're showing we're a big club with a big club mentality.

Anon - Thanks man! It's good to be posting again, there's no reason why I haven't, I guess I was tired of the same ol' debates.

Ken, Completely agree man, I like to think of myself as a bit of a tactician and a football coach, in fact I'm considering heading to the states next July to coach High school (and perhaps higher).

LVG is a genius of a man, his mentality is simple, we can do things the easy and have a great relationship or you can think you're in charge and know better than me, in which case I'll be your worse nightmare.

Eds, How are you all doing?

Agree0 Disagree0

Stretfordender, you'll never catch our five, that's why United still fear Liverpool, even after 26 years you're still in our shadow.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jul 2014 07:01:51
Mcronald your last generation said that about 18 mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Scientists now believe that Liverpool fans hold the key to time travel. They seem to have an uncanny ability to live in the past.

Agree0 Disagree0

Were the biggest club in the country and the most successful too so why would we fear you? admittedly I was slightly worried last year in all honesty but that was until - steve gerrard gerrard, he slipped on his fu***** ass, he gave it to demba ba, steve gerrard. hehe. owen 1 gerrard 0

Ed (s), where do you see cavani going if and when he leaves psg? There is news coming out today that he hasn't turned up for pre-season today.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I can explain where there is interest but I really don't want to be predicting what will happen.}

21 Jul 2014 18:18:17
Woodward's interview yesterday suggests we can expect a real game-changer of a signing this summer. All signs point towards Vidal, but the club and many journos deny we're interested.

Now, considering how badly we need a player like Vidal, it'd be ridiculous if we weren't interested and personally I think we're just keeping quiet. but, I was just thinking.

If we are in fact not interested, who the hell ARE we targeting for that position?!

I literally can't think of any other world-class CM player available. And Vidal is available, at the right price, IMO.

Especially with Carrick out, we're in dire need of someone there.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Considering how badly we need him? I don't think we do. We need wingers and cb's a lot more than we need another box to box midfielder. A cdm, perhaps.

Still hope we sign Vidal though. The best in the world at what he does.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Red Seven but I've got to take issue with that. Are you out of your mind?

Not only do we need Vidal but we also need a more defensively minded play maker AND another quality box to box player.

Dont you get it? We have NO midfielders good enough to warrent pulling on the shirt apart from herrera.

Agree0 Disagree0

Redseven how could you possibly say we don't need vidal. To be fair we rather not get any wingers this year and get Vidal and a world class cb like hummels if its possible.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jul 2014 10:48:48
Ed002 earlier said that a bid for Vidal from us was imminent. I think that would suggest we ARE interested.

Agree0 Disagree0

No vidal no title it's that simple

Who would have thought, after that inauspicious first game, that Pat would have went on to become one of the best full backs in the world?

In amongst all the discussions regarding possible incoming transfers, its nice to see some posters have taken the time to acknowledge a player who put his heart and soul into every game he played for us.

Always seemed a bit of a nutter, but he was OUR nutter.

Good luck, fella, you'll be fondly remembered here - if only every player that pulls on the shirt, could bring that 100% endeavour and commitment to the cause.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He was a liability at times but like you said his commitment could never be questioned he loved our club and for that I think most of us loved him in return I hope he does great in Italy I really do

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Stevie. He has taken some cr4p over the last couple 9 years as some people have short memories. Yes, his legs started to go but his commitment to the shirt was phenomenal. I will miss him

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 20:11:01
Yes best of luck to him, his desire and mentality have never been in doubt and for a while there he was among the world's best.

Congrats on your move, Patrice, I think he'll fit in well there too.

Top player in his prime and one of my favourite united players of last 10 years, commited and loved the club, the 2 ingredients needed if ure gunna have any chance of making it at our great club

Goodbye Patrice

After 9 years you have chosen to see out the twilight of your career somewhere else. Your passion, commitment, bravery, and character always shone through. Age has started to catch up with you but I will always remember you for the warrior and leader you have been. A credit to our shirt, good luck my friend.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A great pro who I had the pleasure of meeting and got his autograph.

A top professional and a gentleman. I hope he has a successful time at Juve.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 18:11:00
Aside from all this Woodward leaving the tour stuff, I would just like to wish Evra well in the future. He has been a class act for us and won so much here. He has been a liability recently and won't be missed in that sense - but he has been a fantastic player for us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'll echo that! I was going to put something up but that just about sums it up he realy is a Manchester utd player n totaly understood what it meant to play for our great club? Good luck to him top guy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep. I hope everything goes well for him at Juve been a great player for us most of the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fresh, you were doing so well and then you had to spoil it. Liability is harsh. SAF kept picking him, Moyes kept picking him, Deschamps kept picking him. Let's just wish him well.

Still a lot of talk regarding hummels, but I believe the only way this could possibly happen is if kagawa goes the other way.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think you're wrong and I wouldn't be bothered if you was right.

Agree0 Disagree0

If a player wants a move then it will often happen. And it seems that Hummels is open a move.

Agree0 Disagree0

If a player wants a move then it will often happen. And it seems that Hummels is open a move.

shaktar have been having a few probs with their players not reporting in for training due to 'not feeling safe' I believe? 2 members I wouldn't mind drawing on are doug costa and alex teixeira? do you think LvG would be interested? I wouldn't mind alex in my squad?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Clutching at straws.}

21 Jul 2014 16:58:00
Touch of class from Evra in his letter! Been a bit of a liability these last couple of seasons but can never fault his heart and commitment to the club and his obvious love for the badge. Best lb back in the world from 2008-2011

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Jul 2014 17:00:26
Who would have thought MU could get £8m back on Buettner & Ev? Considering Ev was off on a Bosman and Buettner is pants. Good business being done so far. I wonder what Benfica will pay for Bebe? I think most of us would have released him a year ago.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Jul 2014 16:27:40
If united buy.hummels will they play deep or buy another CB with pace? Hummels is slow and.vulnerable outside.the box

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Al, I think you have been listening too much to the bitters on your page. If Brendan had even a glimpse of a chance of signing Hummels, he would drop Lovren in an heartbeat. But there is no chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha Messi beats him for pace in World cup Final and now everyone thinks he is slow even though Loew had them playing way too high a line. they guy is class and will prove that should we get him

Agree0 Disagree0

That'll be why Hummels looked so vulnerable playing next to Per 'Usain Bolt' Mertersacker then will it?

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney, you have to be reasonable. LVG doesn't have Rodgers' vision about centrebacks. Apparently he cries himself to sleep muttering "If only we had Coates. "

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 18:11:27
Unlike Lovren's blistering pace, of course.

Agree0 Disagree0

If people actually watched the germans, they were never fully opposed by a top side. There was.lots of space in behind but no team were.good enough to play through their midfield. I say it how it is syd without any influence. Hummels is one of the very best inside the box. Outside it he doesn't have great pace and is vulnerable outside it IMO. I will let United fans judge

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 18:55:19
Most bitter post of the summer?

Agree0 Disagree0

Big A

Don't worry about us we will try and offer better competition this year. I am sure you guys will be gunning to win the league if gerrard can stay on his feet.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 19:53:17
Ding ding ding well done AL u win today for the most bitter post from a Liverpool fan!

Agree0 Disagree0

United are looking to sign a World Cup winning cb, who, despite being less than 100% fit, helped keep a clean sheet in the final for 120 minutes. But because he wasn't fast enough to keep pace with one of the most nimble players in the world, he's a poor signing. A champion for club and country with vast experience at the top level, but he's a bit of a risk.

Whereas, Liverpool are trumping up over £20m for a mid table defender, who helped Croatia ship 6 goals (2 more than Germany did in the entire tournament) in their 3 group games. Liverpool have lost Suarez, and are unable to entice top class players to replace him. So when United get linked with the type of players who aren't interested in Scousland, the only response is to pretend they're not really good based on one game at the WC.

Agree0 Disagree0

That's the whole point Big Al it is up to us to judge as united fans! That's if the rumours in a Spanish newspaper about a German joining an English club are true!

Agree0 Disagree0

Al is one of the good ones to be fair, far less bias than most pool fans, but I think he has been swayed slightly by other pool fans today. All summer Al has been asking the editor about Hummels. A lot of Liverpool fans have, the moment we are heavily linked to him, he becomes average :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Danny

Perfectly put, my thoughts exactly. A World Cup winning centre half who a lot of us wanted last year anyway. So looking forward to seeing Liverpool fall away this year

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't believe its bitter. Its my judgement. I have said herrera is a terrific player thãt I would have liked pool to get. I have said to my own liverpool mates I would have scholes ahead of Gerrard every day of the week because of his quailties a midfielder and bias relations. Bitter? I believe yous don't like what I said simply. I praised him but he does have weaknesses outside the. box. Watch him carefully at United next season if he's there. Its a part of his game he needs to improve. You donot need to have great pace to be a great CB.

GCU quailty

21 Jul 2014 21:23:29
Big Al take note - Danny just gave an excellent example of "saying it like it is" whereas you fell flat on your face :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney there are no good Liverpool fans.

Agree0 Disagree0

Carloto, true, just some better than others :)

Agree0 Disagree0

In fairness, Big Al has a point about Hummels not being the quickest CB; although, that said, his distribution and general passing ability from the back is the best around, IMO, and is probably the reason the boss wants him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sam, I agree, at pressing up into midfield from defence and his ability on the ball, he is a better option than Martinez IMO. I will be over the moon with Vidal & Hummels, I hope we can agree the deals.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 16:14:11
Mr Woodward has left the tour for urgent business . Welcome Vidal .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Maybe we have made some headway in the Hummels negotiations?

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 16:56:38
Supposedly it's general club business. Can't wait for the new sponsor to be unveiled. Perhaps the official paper clip of Manchester United? Ed could do with a few for all those unsigned contracts adorning his desk

Agree0 Disagree0

Bloody hell he's only just turned up from the last time he disappeared off tour for urgent transfer business last summer!

Agree0 Disagree0

He left the tour last year and we signed fellaini on deadline day, i'm very optimistic but let's not get ahead of our selves here

Agree0 Disagree0

No no you guys don't get it. He left last year and so we got hererra this year. He's gone now so we should expect vidal in jan/next summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

LOL

That made me laugh.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 15:53:48
According to the MEN Mr Woodwoody has left the tour. With the 'watch this space' speech yesterday hopefully something happens this time!

Also, all the best to mad Paddy at Juve. Very good player and a true United warrior.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He left last years tour too for " urgent transfer business" that never happened so don't get too excited!

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 16:01:44
I hope he is using a different travel company to the one he used when he left Oz last year and arrived on September 2nd!

Wish Evra all the best, he had his criticism on here but he is one player who knew what representing United was all about, true club legend.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 16:05:14
He left Australia this time last year and we are still waiting for the player he went to sign!

Agree0 Disagree0

Not been his best for a while but what a player when he was. Going back to when we won the champions league Evra rio and vidic were arguably the best in the world it's a shame to think they've all gone. The thing that will stand out most is the passion and love he has for the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 15:41:33
Thank you Pat you've been a great servant to our club, another voice in changing room lost

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Probably a good time to go. Serie A pace will suit Evra in his twilight years. i'm sure he'll be an important player for Juve on and off the pitch.

Will definately not forget his level of performances between 2007-2011. A 4 year period as the best left back in the world, and a key player in the legendary side of 2008. Evra has earnt his place as a Utd legend. Much respect Patrice, and best of luck in a new challenge.

Agree0 Disagree0

If the reported fee is true, I am going to contradict most here and believe that is a bad piece of business unless we have someone else lined up.

How do back up a 19 year old left back who is supremely talented but by any measure very young and inexperienced?

Agree0 Disagree0

We need a o'shea or p.Neville type player, play lb or rb, cover Raphael and Shaw, even pushing to start in place if them if play well

Agree0 Disagree0

Has good as Evra was he had become a liability, so getting anything for him after eight years of service was ok in my book. And remember it's not your money so don't worry.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is about what you have to pay for a backup and if you really get much better than evra and all that experience.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 20:01:38
Evra was always going to leave this summer. It was a good bit of business to get something for him. Evra knew it was time to go and I personally think we owe him that much. Best of luck to the Guy. A true servant to the club

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I was in Totnes - a good trip.}

002, I drove through Totnes yesterday. I occasionally visit Totnes as there's one pub at the top that sell a cider called "Devon Blush". I literally drink them down like they are Ribena. But did it once on an empty stomach and I was p1ssed by 1pm. I like the way they dress in Totnes, they have their own dress code, it's a very hippy look.

After a rather busy start to the transfer market things have seemed to go quiet again! Ed002 I remember you said you expect more signings, any idea if we can expect some movements soon? Outgoings included. Thanks in advance!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I cannot answer questions about timing.}

Hey I don't want to jynx this but I think we are getting closer to hummels according to reports any truth to this guys?

21 Jul 2014 12:37:16
Reports are saying Man Utd will announce the signing of Hummels this week. let's hope so!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah apparently we have sealed the deal. It would be a fantastic signing

Why is the Hummels fee being speculated about so low? Is his contract low or sonething?

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He still has three years left on his contract.

Agree0 Disagree0

The fee does seem very low and he has a deal till 2017. Maybe one of our players is going the other way?

Agree0 Disagree0

Because the info is coming from Barcelona and everyone they want to buy, their value seems to start off very low.

Anybody got a favourite for the new captain? i'm not sure Rooney or Rvp are right for it. I think the best captains usually come from midfield because they can keep order of everybody around them and get a grip of the game when the rest of the sides struggling! We just don't have a leader in Cm yet.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I suspect it will be Van Persie, but it may be better if Rooney was to get it. Either of them two would do a good job IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't think new players would get the armband. Only contenders would be Rooney or RVP.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney

Rooney has in the past been profligate with possession, LvG will note that and quickly. Also given Rooneys behaviour in the past how would teammates who watched him do that, feel about him being given such an honour? It could be divisive, so my guess would be RVP his national team captain. The only other options might be one of those coming in if their profile was right or perhaps Phil Jones to take a long term view. The captain in cricket is a far bigger concern that football mind you.

Agree0 Disagree0

Vidal if we get him would lead by example the new robbo

Agree0 Disagree0

If it was me I would have RVP and De Gea as vice. Then at least we know we will have one of them on the pitch at all times.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rvp or Vidal we should give to someone thts going to be playing the most games

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 13:47:53
RVP 1st choice VIdal or Hummells are both great candidates if either of them arrive. I would have no hesitation in giving it to either of them

Agree0 Disagree0

I dislike the guy but I think Rooney should get it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Carrick would of been my pick up until he got injured with Rvp or Rooney as vice.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just an opinion but what if.

A selling point in negotiations or attraction would be be that for Example Vidal/Hummels are being primed for the captaincy?

What would be peoples on this?

Agree0 Disagree0

It would be nice for Rooney to get it and prove his worth to the club but I don't think a striker can rally the side when they need it most because they're not on the ball all the time. I think Vidal would make a great captain but can't see it going to a new signing. With the comments Van Gaal made about Carrick he might have had him in mind. He could sit in front of the back 4 dictating play and barking out orders to the rest of the team and one of the most experienced players we've got now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Vidal would make a great captain, as would Hummels, and they would both be superb signings so I doubt many people would object.

Got chance to watch Woodwards interview in full last night (rather than reading quotes, much easier to judge a comment if you can tell in what context it was said)

I thought he came across extremely well, he obviously has his head screwed on and has great business sense. I liked his comment about people not saying hello to him and just asking 'Are we signing xxxx?'. It shows what pressure he is under but he seems to be handing it very well.

His comments on transfers were not needed unless we do have some deals in the pipeline. Al season tickets are sold so we won't see the doom-mongers on here saying that is the only reason for his comments. I am sure they will come up with some other reason though!

I suggest people like Ash.The.1 watch the interview with an open mind rather than with the misguided opinion that Woodward doesn't know what he is doing. He said 'people aren't interested in 99% of what I do, they just want to know about transfers' and I think that sums up a lot of peoples view of him. If we do sign the players we are all hoping for this summer then I think Woodward will have done a great job and if people blamed Woodward for a bad summer last year, they would have to say well done if we have a good summer this year.

Can't wait until the pre season starts on Thursday (even if I do have to wake up at 4am to watch it!), nothing like that feeling of watching a United game, and I am optimistic (I know, not like me!) for the new season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So he only spends 1% of his time working on transfers? Perhaps if he spent less time trying to line up an official roof-tile sponsor in the far east and a little more on transfers he wouldn't need to go on television to defend his performance?

Agree0 Disagree0

Given what he said we are now buying every player under the sun if you believe the papers.

Best regards,

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 11:54:42
I'm not sure the 99% was meant to be taken literally, Jesus some people never fail to amuse me.

Agree0 Disagree0

What we have long suspected is finally official. Woodward spends more of his time defecating than he does trying to secure transfers.

Agree0 Disagree0

He can talk as much as he wants, let's hope he will back it up with the world class signings we are desperate for.

Agree0 Disagree0

Danny/nomid

To be fair, we have signed mata, shaw and herrera since jan and most people would have never thought that was possible and have been negative nellies here.

I am confident there are 2 more major signings and one squad player type signing that will be made prior to the start of the season.

We are going to be lot better than last year as long as we get a couple of CB.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is a self publicising k--b. Seemed ok him keeping quiet but he couldn't help himself trying to look important staying " watch this space" then I thought if your so busy behind the scenes why are sodding off to USA

I'm not surprised but very frustrated that we have LVG's press conference last week and just days later what he says is being contradicted by Woody. Either we are doing work behind the scenes or we are waiting for LVG to assess things before we do work on brining new players in? It can't be both and what is the point in doing work if we don't go for the player, as it will only mean we ruin relations with agents and selling clubs for the future by stringing them along?

I obviously want us to strengthen CB, CM and Wing positions - but I don't see the point in any of us wasting our time commenting on club statements because it's just a maze of contradictions and lies, it shows a lack of respect for the supporters who listen to these things. It's all a waste of our time believing anything the club says until the deals are done, the fans are not even a pawn in this game of media chess and it winds me up - lose all integrity to make a few extra quid.

Why is Woody even saying we have lots of money to spend, it makes no commercial sense?!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Jul 2014 10:42:33
You think that selling clubs and agents pay attention to what is happening in the media?

The papers create the gossip to sell papers not the club.

I think you need to calm down and enjoy speculating and hoping we sign who we sign because guess what, You've got no control over what happens.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 10:42:38
Beast,

He didn't, he said the club is doing well financially and that there is no fixed budget.

Like my post above says, some of the doom-mongers will come up with any reason to have a go at the interview, sounds like that happened already.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he just said it for the minority that are against him or those that never believed in him.

I would prefer he said nothing and quitely done his business but we will know for sure what he meant by the end of the window.

Agree0 Disagree0

He was asked a question about transfer budget and said we have money to spend because we do. What do you want him to say?

You lot need to stop reading hidden messages in every statement and sometimes they are exactly what they are.

I am interested in the start LvG has made as a leader. I have only read transcripts of his first press conference and press released information as I am abroad at the moment. However some pertinent points stood out.
Firstly, dismissing transfer talk. LvG knew he was going away with his squad imminently when he said that and had previously identified unity in the squad as vital. Therefore saying he wanted time to assess his players was important for bonding with them in the short term. He played that well and I would expect arrivals at the timing LvG wants. I doubt it would take him long when he sees them to identify what we need but it is the unity as he had with Holland that came first.
Secondly, attention to detail, I heard he wants the same grass at the training ground as at OT, quite right and I would expect he wants it the same length with pitch dimensions the same. Also we play in stadiums not open fields so rightly again cut out the cross winds. The training is interesting, it sounds like they will spend more time at the training ground than ever before, training will likely be more serious and tactical which can only be a good thing.

Thirdly I was interested to see us giving trials to several outstanding young 15 year olds. LvG will build a first team but will want a strong youth for the club to build on in years after he has gone.

Lastly, he came in and seems to instantly know what he wants, that will come over to the players as well. Whether he succeeds will probably depend on the next players coming in yet I think we now can see the leadership traits he has.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Precisely, you cannot join a club saying that you need 5/6 new players. How would that make the players feel at a time when they should be bonding with the manager and each other before the new season. It's pretty obvious MU will continue to work hard behind the scenes and what he did was nip it in the bud. What he said stops any more questions from the media. Moyes struggled with this kind of thing and dug himself all kinds of holes.

Agree0 Disagree0

That is the mistake Moyes made. In his first press conference he said that we need 5 or 6 world class players to compete in Europe.

Agree0 Disagree0

So it was all to fool the players and make them feel better.
I would imagine the players are fully aware of what the squad needs and are desperate for us to improve the squad.
People need to forget what is said to the media etc.
If someone says something positive it must be true, if its not positive it must be false.

Woody says we will sign a few so everyone shouts " I told you so " if he had said we maybe won't the same people would of said " what else could he say "
Its just media BS and if you think the players pay any attention to it you must be nuts .
All the fans know we need to sign a few so i'm sure the players do regardless of what moyes or lvg say.
Infact I would say that the players are more ITK than some of the experts on this site

If RM sign James as expected, will Ronaldo be available?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes that's how it works at Real Madrid, it's one big player in, one bigger one out.

Dream on

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't be silly. He is likely to replace Di Maria in the squad. There front 4 will be lethal next season. Ronaldo Rodriguez Bale and Benzema. Wow

Agree0 Disagree0

I would think not as much as I would love that to be the case! But Woodward alluded to working on something exciting so who knows.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would not expect Ronaldo, I think that ship sailed for us when he signed a new contract 12 months ago. I watched Ronaldo struggle with his knee at the World Cup and read one report that said he risked his career if he played on. He also had a few problems at the end of the season, depends what the cause is, it would merit a very thorough medical should he go anywhere. The memories of Owen Hargreaves knee problem should never be forgotten and is also why we should be careful with Vidal as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mikey, you don't have to wait until Real sign players if you want to ask Ronnie out. Be yourself and I'm sure you'll sweep him off his feet.

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you no how big ronaldos ego is? no champions league = no chance of holding on to his his ballon d'or. probably means more to him than anything.

Agree0 Disagree0

Reported that Isco will be leaving, but doubt we'd be interested.

Agree0 Disagree0

Isco is best in the no 10 position, we have a few who can play there so doubt any interest.

It is reported that arsenal is in negotiations with sporting for carvalho and they have been asked to pay 24m.
Now I really finds it funny.
If united wants him then its 34 m and other wants him its 24?
Don't understand what to believe?
But if Woodward said budget is not a concern then loosing out on varvalho will be a mistake.
We have both carrick and fletcher almost at end so having carvalho this window along with Herrera and Vidal will only add more quality.
United really need to act faster.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Rodio the gossip I read just stated they have to pay 24million up front now but implied the cost would be more than that in total. I would assume its probably the same price quoted to everyone if they have done such thing.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2014 09:12:43
Reread the artical, it says they will have to pay a minimum of 24m upfront. That could just mean the way the payments are set out, it could be you have to pay 24m this summer then further installments of 5m for the next two summers making it a total of 34m. Or it could be perfornane related.

Agree0 Disagree0

Radio,
24 million is the upfront payment. Overall fee is same regardless of bidding club.

Agree0 Disagree0

We better sign him or we will regret it big time! he is a beast!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it's 24million upfront, I don't think most clubs buy all cash upfront for anyone ( especially not us )
I think I'm right in saying that.

Listen to Ed002 not the papers/ online reports, Lisbon won't budge on the buyout clause which is 37m.

It really depends on whether Van Gaal rates him. The deep lying mid in his philosophy is there to initiate attacks as well as break up play and is Carvalho's passing good enough for that?

Agree0 Disagree0

I read on the arsenal page one of the Edds said they required but haven't bid yet
