I will probably get shot down for this, but I am going to post my view anyway.
I am, and always have been a big fan of Ryan Giggs. He is a club legend, and we will all be forever greatful for everything he has given to, and done for our great club.
However, I am not sure the club are doing the right thing if they are grooming Giggs to take over from LvG in three years time. It seems to me, especially with the failed appointment of David Moyes, that the club want to try to continue the Fergie era, but without the great man at the helm. I think Moyes was appointed because he was the closest thing out there to clone of SAF. During his time at United, Moyes started to change things quite a bit and failed. We as fans expected instant success, and the players didn't like the changes. When he was sacked, Giggs took over and reverted right back to SAF ways and personnel.
In my opinion, United have stagnated over the last 4or 5 years, while others have moved forwards. I think the appointment of van Gaal is a good one. But I really hope he takes the club forwards, and in a different direction to that of which the club was previously going. We all know the phrase about a new broom sweeping clean, and I genuinely hope that happens with the new manager. We need a new and dynamic outlook at United. One that will take us forwards, and back to the summit of English, and European football. LVG could well be the man to set us on our way, but he will need to "sweep us clean" of all those ageing players who we all know need replacing, and get younger, more talented players in.
I have nothing against Giggs at all, but I just hope that if van Gaal can set us on our way to something new, with a more modern approach, that in 3 years time all that work is not un done by one of SAF most loyal and trusted servants .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree with a lot of that.
the club needs a change and a modernization of our football

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post Betty, spot on .

Van Gaal should be there for at least a couple of seasons and for me Giggs should get no guarantees about the job.
If he's serious about wanting to be Utd manager he should stop living off his (rightful) legend as a player and get out there and work somewhere else to get some managerial experience, perhaps after a season working with Van Gaal

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post. Spot on.

Like it or not, change is needed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post. I agree with it all except the bit about us all knowing the phrase about a new broom sweeping clean. I had not heard that one before, but I hope it's apt.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm one of few who apparently believe someone's accomplishments as a player are not in any way indicators of their coaching abilities, therefore should not factor into their " CVs " when they are being considered for a job.

I would honestly rather give the job to Meulensteen/ Solskjaer than Giggs because they have more experience.

I just do not understand what Giggs has that Neville/ Scholes/ even beckham do not. I'm pretty sure it's not intellect since Giggs isn't really an educated individual, nor does he strike you as a smart individual ( in the way Lampard and Mata do ).

We need more than a mascot on the sidelines telling players " I want to see crosses, I want to see shots, I want to see tackles, I want to see pace, the Manchester United way " and actually come up with a tactical approach to the game. A manager is more than just a motivator.

If Giggs is being groomed to take over the job, than I believe that is the absolute worst idea the Glazers could come up with. They did not become billionaires by making decisions based on sentiment and choosing under-qualified individuals for certain jobs to please people.

Giggs should never get the job unless he proves himself on the world stage from a managerial point of view. Solkjaer is doing it, Hughes tried and failed, Bruce tried and failed, Keane tried and failed, Blanc arguably succeeded.

Fact is, I'd love one of our old boys to be our manager one day, but not until they are fully proven. If not, then just give the job to Fred The Red ( or Zee, where is the little bugger though? ) and hope for the best.

Agree0 Disagree0

When Sir Matt stepped down he promoted one of his ex players that knew the 'United way', Wilf McGuiness, and it was a total failure. Wilf was too young, and couldn't get the needed respect from the players, Best etc. in the end United abandoned their thinking and begun the search for the right man. This didn't happen until Sir Alex arrived.
I agree in part with Betty because of this but I do think Giggs is more integrated in United than Wilf, and he is being groomed where Wilf wasn't. Maybe 3 years will be enough to teach him, and who knows, we might have LvG for longer than that!

Agree0 Disagree0

Mick1, I agree with most of that except when you say its the worst idea the Glazers could come up with. I'm not defending those parasites in any way, but I genuinely believe that they don't interfere with football matters too much. They are business men, end of. I firmly believe that they let the management run the football side of things, and take their advice on footballing decisions. You can point to the fact that they did interfere by sacking David Moyes, but that was a decision that had to be made for business reasons as well as footballing ones.
I would expect that SAF, as well as Bobby Charlton and some other still have a huge influence on the way the football side of things are being run, and are advising the Glazers and the "suits" accordingly.
That is why I hope that LvG comes in and makes important changes that the club need. If he is only here for 3 seasons to steady the ship and help groom Giggs to take over, then we could be back to square one in 3 years time. Giggs is a legend, but he is a student of SAF, and I think would try to carry on the Ferguson way, because that is all he has ever known for 23 or so years.
In my opinion, we need to move away from that. As a business, we are in better shape than ever. But on the pitch, I feel we need a complete change of direction. Not only in personnel, but the whole structure. All the talk of transfers and big name signings is justified. But how have we got in such a bad situation? Some will point to lack of investment. But money has been mage available under the Glazers. maybe not as much as could have been, but we have had, and spent money. The problem is, in my view, the money has been spent badly. SAF bought several wingers in recent years, while failing to sign a midfielder since 2007. Is that lack od investment , or bad decision making? I would say the later.
Another thing that need a shake up is our scouting system. I know we can't sign all the best young talent, but look at the young players who have been available, at home and abroad over the last few years. Our scouting system had been abysmal, and needs to improve drastically.
Going back to the original point, the club need a change of direction. New ways, and new ideas, as well as o lot of new personnel. Grooming someone (Giggs) who has already been here for 23 odd years, to become our new manager in 3 years time does not fill me with confidence that we are willing to make those changes.
I guess time will tell.

A question about the center backs. We could sign up to two, but suppose we sign one, who do you think LVG would prefer out of the current crop of Evans, Smalling or Jones?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Personally I'd say Evans as first choice partnering the new CB but I reckon it will be Jones who gets the nod first.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Jones could develop a lot under van Gaal, and hopefully he will learn a more technical style of defending that cuts out the recklessness that is injuring him every second game. Evans, I suspect, will be kept as back up. Not sure about Smalling though. He's such a poor ball player that he just doesn't seem to fit with van Gaal's style of play.

Agree0 Disagree0

Depends on who we sign. If it's Hummels who's good at playing out from the back then you'd think he'd need a dominant aerial player next to him so I'd say Smalling (who had the highest win aerial win rate in the PL this season). Hopefully LvG could help develop Smallings ball play as I think that's his main downside at the moment.

Jones worries me as he's generally clumsy / dumb and whilst Evans has been reliable for us over the past seasons I still not 100% convinced by him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tough question: mostly depends on who we sign as the other CB. Is it fair to say the following:
Smalling is the quickest, strong in the air, but poor on the ball.
Evans is the best on the ball, but vulnerable to physical strikers.
Jones has great potential, and can develop if he is no longer needed at CM and can stay injury free.

Agree0 Disagree0

More like which bugger is fit

Agree0 Disagree0

Evans. His passing is superb and LvG likes a ball playing CB

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2014 22:45:28
Evans due to his passing ability, Smallings days could be numbered with LvG in charge.

Agree0 Disagree0

Come on guys this is so obvious! Jones will partner the new centre back bought in. Probably Indi or Badstuber, although Hummels will certainly not join for sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we sign a CB who is good on the ball then we need someone like vidic alongside him. so I guess it would be Jones/smalling
Remember Rio and Vidic partnership when they were at their best

Agree0 Disagree0

Lots of evidence about LvG being able to see best player for each position - even if they don't know it themselves (ie Shweinsteiger LW to CM)

I think he'll see that Jones, with some coaching, will make a great CDM and maybe play a similar holding role to Lahm or even Martinez when he was at Bilboa.

Also I think that he'll also convert Valencia to an attacking right back (will give rafael competition, even though LvG should improve him even more)

Convert Rooney into a CM (or let him go)

Convert Powell into a striker

Improve Welbeck

Bring in Angelou Henriquez - had amazing reputation when he arrived with us

Develop Michael Keane (another defensive option?)

Bring in and develop Wilson, Perriera, Lawrence Pearson and Varela (who has immense potential at RB)

Plus Shaw, Kroos, Robben and maybe Cesc/Martin/classie/Hummels

Can't wait for the new season!

Agree0 Disagree0

It has to be Evans, he can play a pass and if he improves under LVG he can also start our attacks just from the back, the way that LVG prefers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok guys totally off topic but just a debate I was having with my mate and thought i'd ask here,

U have a free kick last kick of the game, its 25-30 yards out who would u want to take it? Beckham, Ronaldo or juniniho (ex lyon)

For me i'd want Beckham my mate said juniniho(spelling lol)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Id probably go for Becks, there wasnt many that can bend the ball like he did. Ronaldo would come close second

Agree0 Disagree0

Becks, his technique from dead ball was worldclass.
Fans do not realize his perfect techniques takes years of lots of.hours daily striking the ball. Only the Brazilans( few) had as good as technique from dead balls as becks.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would go Beckham in that range, Juninho if further out, those two clearly before Ronaldo, pct wise.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2014 22:52:39
Depends on whether its central or out wide, whether its on the right or left as that will limit the shooting angle of the player depending on whether they are right or left footed.

It would also depend on who's in goal and how they set up to defend such free kicks, whether they have a man on one or both posts, how they set up their wall and how they position themselves.

Statistically I think you'll find Juninho has the best conversion rate of free kicks out of the three. Ronaldo is better if the free kick is more central and Beckham if it is slightly wider due to his ability to bend the ball will open up a larger propotion of the goal where as Juninho and Ronaldo's much more straighter kicking style limits the area they can shoot at if the free kick is from a wider angle.

I hope that clears that up. Lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Junihno p further out as suggested but I'd plump for Pirlo close in.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't be bothered to look it up but I'm pretty sure Juninho had a stupidly good record from free kicks. Juninho, Beckham, Ronaldo for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

How about Shunsuke Nakamura. he hit a great dead ball.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - An absolute wonderful talent was wee Naka, he was probably the last player Celtic had who could have held his own in any team. I was going to put a video up but they all show a certain goal and I wouldn't want to upset you guys, so what about this one:

Dont no what there conversion rates are like but for every one ronald smashes in the top bin he clouts 10 in to the wall and 10 on the fat lass in the stands lap. beckham all day for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Juninho had the best striking rate, and scored more freekicks than Beckham and Ronaldo.

If it was up to me, it all depends on the opposition really. Beckham and Juninho would be ahead of Ronaldo, no doubt about that.

When it comes to comparing Juninho and Beckham's techniques, their difference in style is noticeable. Juninho had more power, and could score from pretty much any distance, while Beckham whipped it in with deadlier accuracy.

What Beckham had that Juninho did not ( at least not on the same level ) was a significantly higher assist number from dead balls. His service was unrivaled in modern football imo.

So if we were playing West-Ham/ Stoke/ any team with a bunch of huge players, it's unlikely Beckham's delivery would have made much of a difference, but Juninho is more likely to score. Against Barcelona/ Arsenal/ any " smaller " set of players, I'd have Beckham take it. He could either score or whip it on someone's head.

Of course there are other variables, such as the size of the keeper ( Juninho against a bigger keeper who might come to collect deliveries ), the size of our men in the box ( the tallet they are, the more Beckham could inflict damage ).

Ronaldo on the other hand is nowhere near as capable a creator as Beckham from freekicks, nor as good as Juninho from direct free kicks. I believe Beckham has a higher conversion rate from freekicks when compared to Ronaldo, who can score stunners just not consistently enough

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed007 I was thinking about that vid as well. that is an unbelievable free kick. even in my dreams I don't think I could do that. I always wondered if he could have made it in the epl. I did hope united would try to sign him. he was class whenever I saw him.

cheers, scott.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Undoubted potential but still very raw.

His situation's also a little odd. Verona had him on loan this season and have an agreement to buy at £12m. Their plan seems to be to buy him for £12m and then sell him for £20m+ within the space of a few weeks - but I'm wondering whether Porto will let this happen without putting up a fight.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2014 20:39:33
Do you think LVG might bring in Veltman
Or maybe dare I say Vlaar!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was chatting to a good friend of mine who is a Villa fan and apparently there have been some local murmuring that LVG could go for Vlaar. Villa didn't get a full season from him as he was blighted by injury, so its hard to believe there is any traction to this.

Agree0 Disagree0

Please can we stop with the assumption that LVG will be signing a lot of Dutch players? Did Moyes fill our squad with Scots or Mourinho sign Portuguese for Chelsea? I don't think so.

He may target Strootman because they are friends and Robben because he's one of the best wide men in the world. Aside from that I'd be surprised if we sign any Dutch players.

Agree0 Disagree0

But Moyes did look to players from his previous role. LVG targeting Dutch Internationals is no different to Moyes signing Fellaini and going for Baines.

I don't care where players come from as long as they are good enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just something to think about for the people that want fabregas and kroos. Say if we got the two what do you think would happen vs a yaya type player. Do you not think we would get over run? Thoughts appreciated.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good quick one / two touch football keep the ball of yaya and co.
there is a reason city have looked poor in the more technical CL against the better teams especially

Agree0 Disagree0

Depends on the third midfielder. A midfield of Kroos and Fabregas ( along with one of Kagawa/ Mata on the wing ) will monopolize possession.

If the third midfielder is quick/ strong enough to put Toure under pressure when in possession ( he would rarely have the ball in such situations ) we stand a very good chance of bossing the midfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

We should go all put for Yaya, looks like he's available and he'd be a cracking signing

Agree0 Disagree0

They would pass the bejeezuz out of yaya or any other prem midfielder

Agree0 Disagree0

We would never sell a player to city and city would never sell a player to us so no he is not available well to us anyway

Oh dear, man city beat Munich at the alianz 3-2 and lost.to barca with ten men. Hardly poor kiddo

We need a physical player as well as silky passers. Vidal, Carvalho, Pogba. somebody of that ilk.

Oh dear the first year in the cl they got knocked out in the group stages (did they come bottom of the group ).
Second year got played of the park at home against munich.
Then had there one good result in the Cl, yer 1 good result.
Then got beat home and away by barcelona.

Also to fair to munich when city beat them munich had all ready top the group as long as they never got beat by 2

So, let me try and summarise. Toure would be a good signing particularly due to the huge sponsorsp money we would get from Africa, Giggs vetoed Thiago and insisted on Fellaini, LVG has given Robben a couple of days off to negotiate a deal with United, we are after every player in the Dutch squad because they are in the Dutch squad, RVP is slagging players off to LVG, nobody has mentioned Robben all year and suddenly he's a great signing. I think it's time I took a break from this complete and utter nonsense. Banter is great but do we really believe every internet rumour we see. Clearly some of us do.

hey guys,

I just had a question, there's been reports on the internet that giggs blocked the thiago move.

Really interesting as why would he be convinced with fellaini and not thiago.

Do you guys believe the report or is it just lazy journalism.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

People will believe what u want to.
People like giggs so this can't be true

Agree0 Disagree0

Not his decisicion to make at the time Moyes didn't want and well woodward wasnt strong enough to have forced a deal through

Agree0 Disagree0

Hmmm, very true Jred I personally don't believe it at all. its strange that people even publish rub. ish like this on the internet.

Agree0 Disagree0

So it was Giggs after all who messed up last summers transfers not the ex manager and Giggs wanted Fellaini! Really, do people seriously want to believe that?
1) Giggs was by all accounts about to leave because his opinion wasn't valued by the ex manager and didn't have any say in anything yet suddenly he had the ear and influence on the then manager on key transfers?
2) If the ex manager made the decisions based on an inexperienced coaches recommendation then it highlights how week he was in terms of decision making when SAF had lined up Thuago

This sounds more like an attempt to undermine Giggs in his new role already and I don't buy it. I would add that my understanding was that it was indeed the ex managers decisions.

Agree0 Disagree0

Singh
Ive no idea, its in a few papers as well.
But everyone likes giggs so they won't believe it but if it had been moyes for example, it would of been a different story

Agree0 Disagree0

A) Why did Giggs have the power to block any deal.

B) Why would Giggs want Fellaini and Not Thiago?

It just doesn't sound right to me, if it is them I am shocked, but seems hard to believe.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's reported in one of the fanzines that it was going to be on radio tonight. Giggs said he wasn't a united player and Phil Neville agreed. He implied that he wouldn't live and bleed united so wasn't a united player . So the transfer was pulled when about to arrange medical .

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyone who believes this story on thiago most likely still believes in santa clause. what a load of nonsense!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Is a santa clause like a buy-out clause?}

I can't believe Giggs would have been the final arbiter on that decision, and if he was then even more reason why Moyes was the wrong person for the job, because it was his responsibility.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest IF this is true, then it shows what a mess last summer was. Frankly the idea that a novice coach was dictating transfer policy is outrageous, how weak do people actually think Moyes was to defer judgement on important transfers?

Agree0 Disagree0

It's nonsense of course but one things for sure, nothing along those lines will be happening with Van Gaal

Agree0 Disagree0

What a complete load of swollocks. If there is even the slightest bit of truth in this story, then we are in a far worse situation than we all thought.

Agree0 Disagree0

The fanzine was just stating that someone on the radio was going to claim it happened didn't confirm the claim I was just stating where it came from .

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2014 17:31:31
So this summer Kroos is the new Fabregas, odds on he stays at Bayern imo, Ed baby is screwing everything up seems so reminiscient of last year.

So thougths on who we will get? I see LVG has been quoted as saying he has given the list of players he wants, he also mentioned the players he wants gone.

To my mind Rio was the first RVP no doubt told him the sh1t stirrers while he ran hiding in Holland pretending to be injured right up until the door hit Moyes on the arse on his way out

Who else could RVP have poisoned the Van Gaal mind any guesses out there?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

100% Rooney if your suspicions are true.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pardoe your blaming rvp for rios exit? Nothing to do with his legs have gone? Did u watch any of his games last season?

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol, I don't think RVP told him specifically to get rid of Rio, especially for the reason you mentioned above.

Negotiations were said to have began 48 hours after the sacking of Moyes. Perhaps he told him a couple of players he doesn't think are up to scratch, but i'm sure LvG would already know that, especially if we as fans can see it. If anything, I think he must have told him more about the traits/personalities of the players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rio needed to go, his best days are long gone.
I'm sure RVP could give him a long list and the majority of the players would be on it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember van persie saying players get in his way.
who would he be talking about?
id imagine they maybe going.

Agree0 Disagree0

Getting slightly annoyed by people criticising RVP!
Faking injuries and telling LVG who to get rid of is ridiculous fantasy!
Without him we wouldn't have won our 20th league title and without him we look a fraction of the team we do with him in it!

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know how this will all pan out; but I hope that it is all done in relative seclusion. We done need another embarrassing farce.

I hope Ed and the gang have got it all in hand.

Agree0 Disagree0

LvG is his own man, he may listen to opinions but he's not guna be RvP's lap dog and do whatever he says.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2014 17:22:44
It's funny like Fabregas I feel I personally know Garay so long have they been a part of the United and now alas he goes into the footballing wilderness by signing for Zenit

He was a SAF target mate. I don't think Moyes fancied him and LvG doesn't if reports are true.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure why any top player would want to play in Russia. Especially non-European players'.

{Ed002's Note - What is wrong with Russia then?}

Saw somewhere LVG doesn't fancy Carvalho either

Agree0 Disagree0

If you have ever been there, you will no that the weather is cold enough to freeze your nutz off.

Being linked with every dutch player now, if RVP was still at arsenal we be linked to him too, just because they are friendly with LVG. On positive note with all the senior players going the wage bill can now accommodate some new top player wages let's hope we can sign some, all these rumours are very simular to last year( we all know who we ended up with) driving me crazy.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would love a good signing or two before the world cup starts. A couple of those Dutch lads would assuage my impatience.

Agree0 Disagree0

This is different to last year redcon. It has changed from "What will Happen", to "How do we get out of this mess". Being a listed company means the owners can't afford any more errors or delays, so it's almost now or 7/10 years from now - we have too much competition to gamble. We will spend big and we need to mix should be quality with proven quality. I see two 29-31 year olds and 3 mid 20's with Shaw and one other youngster.

The Dutch thing is inevitable, but I see Robben being a must. The rest just speculation that probably won't happen, depends on how the medical situation goes with Strootman, do Roma need the cash? We will probably let Buttner go ironically enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

Beast

Kroos 24
Fabergas 27
Shaw 18
Hummels 25
Martinez 25
Reus 24
Sanchez 25.

so united would turn some of the above down because they ate to young?

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not saying that at all. I'm just saying that if Robben is available then he is the best we can get at the moment for the wing - as much as I hate all this Dutch talk it does make sense he would come. Obviously Reus would be nice, but doubtful. Sanchez, great but would take time to settle imo and ideally I would like two wingers anyway.

We need some proven prem experience otherwise it may be a slow start with all the bedding in. All those players listed would be wonderful but I can't see them all happening, (Reus & Martinez).

Robben would be the perfect signing for the next 2-3 years. Too many ifs buts and maybes after that period, so let's sort the now out with a couple of experienced guys on top of the mid 20's.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would robben be available, top player playing for a top team an important player for that team and just signed a new contract 2 month ago .
yet reus and martinez would be un available?

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't mind Robben if all the others were in the 22-27 age range or younger in Shaw's case. We need players who's going to go straight in and do a job for next season. If we went and bought (for example) Shaw, Hummels, Kroos & Cesc with Robben being the only 30 year old, I wouldn't complain. I'd prefer Reus for sure, but as long as we got the defence and midfield sorted with decent aged players, I'd let LvG off for wanting Robben :)

Shaw - Hummels - Kroos - Vidal - Reus.

Would be proper dreamland, but certainly would make us strong contenders for the title and Europe in the future.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2014 16:45:50
Fresh. but you say Robben would be a good idea? Similar age would want similar wages and bayern would want 15 million plus which for a player with little to no resale value is quite frankly not good business sense. He is plagued with injuries and is known for spitting his dummy out.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sounds an awful lot like RVP - and people on here are saying he deserves to be our next captain!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Touche....

£15 million is a big difference to the £40 million that Toure would command. And I couldn't envisage him doing that under LVG, there is too much respect there. He would be of great benefit to nurture Januzaj and Depay if we sign him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would yaya really cost 40 mill.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fresh how do you know Robben would be a good mentor to Januzaj? Or are you just presuming so? Considering he's known very much for having a bad attitude, he's not the type you want teaching a youngster. Just because he's a good player with a lot of skill doesn't mean he can teach.

He'll want a hefty wage and want to play often which will dramatically limit the chances for our youngsters, why on earth do you see it as a good idea?

Agree0 Disagree0

We need to be winning now not in 3 years time. Win first focus on building up the youth second, we have been to pre-occupied penny pinching and gambling with talent when we have no recent success at grooming it.

Janujaz is nowhere near Robben's ability yet, and we need world class players now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Beast
how about we bought the real deal and got worldclass players in the prime rather than on the cheap on there way down .

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred. Yaya and Roben have had each had their best seasons to date - so could it not be argued that they are in their prime?

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with red7. Robben and Yaya are both in their prime now and would be great signings. Sincerely doubt we'll get either though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Robben had yaya both had good seasons as did gerrard and alonso all are past there prime .
Still good players

Its a fact about the owner not allowing the deal to go through. Maybe your caught up doing next seasons predictions to not know what.your talking about but then that's a recurring.theme :(
Bookies love a sydney prediction, holidays to Dubai on you kidd ;)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I too recall hearing that the owner blocked the deal at the last minute.

Agree0 Disagree0

Al, if Liverpool paid what the owner wanted, then he would be a Liverpool player now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney
I'm.afraid this discussion ended with the last post with me, facts are facts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Al, if Liverpool didn't spend days trying to negotiate the price down, putting in derisory bid after derisory bid, and paid what Dnipro initially wanted for the player, then he would be a Liverpool player surely?

Agree0 Disagree0

Big al. You will be telling us next that Gerrard didn't slip!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd. The owner didn't want to sell. He asked for an amount that he didn't think Liverpool would be willing to pay to prevent the player leaving. Liverpool offered the amount and then the owner refused to sign from paperwork to prevent the deal would going through in time. The deal not going through had nothing to do with Liverpool pinching pennies.

If a club doesn't want to sell they won't sell unless the offer is too good to refuse. I suppose Liverpool could have offered silly money - but then we'd all be criticising them for overpaying.

I hope they sign him this summer though. Neither he or Lallana are United quality and I'd be thrilled to see Liverpool blow £40m on the pair. Meanwhile we can spend an extra 10m and sign Fabregas and a top quality wide player like Sanchez.

Agree0 Disagree0

If they didn't want to sell then they wouldn't have sat down with Liverpool to negotiate a price.

Come on Red7, think about it. You do not sit down with a Liverpool delegation if you do not want to sell.

You simply tell them the player is not for sale and Liverpool wouldn't have traveled to Ukraine to try to strike a deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think they may sign Kono this summer, he is cheaper than Lallana. I would be surprised if Liverpool spent £25m on Lallana. I wouldn't be surprised if they bid something like £12m for Lallana. They need to be very careful with the spending or they could face a £49m fine next summer. A drop in the ocean for City, but it would be damaging to Liverpool. Even a £20m fine would be annoying to Liverpool.

Agree0 Disagree0

Red.seven correct
Tr1, but did gerrard slip? IMO he gracefully let his feet glide effortlessly beneath him to northwest whilst his profound upper.body feathered south east.
Just my opinion :/

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd - I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree - but from my recollection of the events pretty much every media outlet was in agreement that the owner pulled the plug at the last minute.

As I say - I very much hope they will sign both players for the simple reason that they are being linked with us and I don't want them anywhere near the club. The fact that they'd take up half of the Suarez money would be a nice bonus.

We all know what Suarez is like. As soon as he's in South America he'll do an interview talking about how he wants to move to RM and Liverpool are standing in his way - and this time I think Liverpool will have no choice but to cash in.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2014 21:16:10
If it's a fact big al. Where's the proof. I'm sure Ed02 said he didn't think the deal would go through. It seems liverpool didn't pay up what the owner wanted for the player.

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on Giggs supposedly being the one to veto the deal for Thiago last summer? I know there were a lot of ins and outs to the whole situation but journalist Ian McGarry on BBC 5 Live reckons that Giggs was the one who convinced everyone that he was 'not a united player'.

Pretty weird if you ask me, he's miles above anything we already have and even weirder considering we signed Fellaini

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If indeed it was Giggs who said "No" to Thiago and "Yes" to Fellaini, he will need more than 3 years to step up to the managers post.

Agree0 Disagree0

I really hope that isn't true. I like Giggsy, and want him to be our future manager; but if he is coming out with that kind of crap, I will have to evaluate my position.

Thiago is a top draw player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its weird with Giggs. He never said much as a player in the media, all most people know is that he was a great player and played for us all his career - why does that mean he will be a good manager Personally I can't see it, he doesn't seem intelligent enough for me but the club look like they are laying the foundations. People often assume quiet people are considered people, maybe they are just quiet because they aren't sure what to say or do? I'm not convinced.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would Giggs want Fellaini and not Thiago? Moyes was manager, he clearly wanted Fellaini and if reports are true, thought Thiago was too lightweight for the EPL.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't believe a single bit of it, also i'm sure Thiago chose BM over MU himself, Pep talked him into the BM move did he not?

Agree0 Disagree0

I doubt very much Giggs had any say what so ever who we bought or didn't buy last year.

Agree0 Disagree0

I just went and listened to it, and it sounds like complete BS to me lol.

Firstly, why reveal such information now? And the way he said it, was as if he was sitting there at this so called meeting himself. He read it out in such a fashion that it makes you believe that he knows exactly what Giggs & Moyes said word for word, along with the reaction of Phil Neville who 'sort of nodded his head'. Sounds like something he thought of the night before.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe moyes is starting to tell people some of the things that went on?

Agree0 Disagree0

Utter nonsense IMO. How is Thiago not a MU player, yet Fellaini is? Fellaini couldn't be less of a MU player. Moyes wanted Cesc and put all of his eggs into the Cesc basket. Dithered on Thiago, dithered on Herrera and ended up with Fellaini. I don't blame the summer entirely on Moyes, but he isn't called dithering Dave for nothing.

Agree0 Disagree0

I mentioned the twilight zone yesterday and see GDS has done the same. Things haven't got any better today with Toure being today's alternate reality discussion point. It's like mass hysteria. Perhaps we might get Suarez, he's a decent player

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wouldn't want Toure and even considering the idea is ridiculous.

Agree0 Disagree0

AJH,

I think Suarez might be interested in coming to us, after all he has built Liverpool up to a Champions League team and may want to do the same for us.

He seems like a good young lad, hard working and never got into any trouble as far as I am aware.

Maybe a bid of 15 million would tempt Liverpool to sell and we could play him up front with Robben and Cavani either side, and Toure and Strootman in the middle.

Agree0 Disagree0

There is 0 chance of us even going for Toure but saying you wouldn't want him is ridiculous fresh. borderline mental to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he is clearly a big cry baby who we would need to spend £40 million to get. As he gets older he will get a lot worse because his style is based on physicality not skill or finesse. He won't have too many more season in him I don't think.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well feel free to bring up a topic to talk about then lads. it is a banter site after all

Agree0 Disagree0

It does amaze me how people think it is so crazy that we could want Yaya or Robben - it is not your own money we are spending, it is a pot that has built over the past 5 years due to lack of investment and we need a couple of quick fixes with other longer term talent. Both are currently World Class, Yaya was 3rd highest scorer in Prem from midfield and is a machine that would play in any team in the world, Robben is 3rd best winger on the planet, maybe 4th if you count Bale. We don't have to manage them, we are paying LVG a fortune to do that and apparently he takes no messing. So what if they are over 30, training, nutrition, performance coaching etc is not what it was 10 years ago. These guys have 3-4 years at least at the very top left and we need a quick fix to some key areas of our team. Who knows how Reus or Sanchez would settle in the Prem and if they are even viable, I would much sooner have quality guaranteed than potential. If we buy 2 wingers one has to be Robben and why not go for Yaya, what do we have to lose. I would love us to sign Reus but I don't think it will happen, more chance with these 2 if you ask me.

Cantona was a bit of a nob when we signed him, Berbatov, Keane, Ince so many, but if they have the right manager they can hone that drama and we are crying out for some 100% world class talent. Crazier things have happened than us signing Robben & Yaya. If we have £200mil to spend plus whatever we reap from the squaddies we let go then why not spend £60-70m on 2 superstars who will propel us to the next level?

We tried the potential route and failed, we now need a bit of both.

Agree0 Disagree0

@GDS
Good work fella!
I need to find my stash of popcorn now!

Yaya toure hands down is one off the best In his position in the world 31 years of age yes is getting on abit but I'd rather bid silly money for him than robben? Yaya is miles ahead off any united midfielder right now.

I'm not saying we should bid for him because quite frankly that's silly and wouldn't happen but to say we wouldn't have him is a joke

Yaya strootman
Mata

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course not Jred, but there is no smoke without fire. These guys could be available if the situation and money is right, Reus doesn't seem available. Griezmaan massive risk, Sanchez/Pedro, risk but still quality (probably take a while to settle, Navas).

Yaya - settled in North West, what we have been crying out for since Keane left and would be a massice two fingers to City, Welcome Back to Manchester.

Robben - Prem experience, best player on the pitch everytime I watch him and fits the new coaches system.

Throw in Fab, Kroos, Shaw, Hummels. That's our money spent, plus we have a bit extra from the squad players we don't need because of lack of Europe.

Next season some of our youngsters will be ready and better from training with ready men rather than almost men.

Makes total sense to me, not to mention the statement it would send to the rest of Europe. If I were Woodward I would roll the dice.

Agree0 Disagree0

Beast
Paying 40 mil and 200k a week makes total sense to you though .
Im going to go out and take a chance ans say I don't think we will try to sign yaya .

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes it does when I think much of that deal will be subsidised (sponsorships/merchandise) and he will be immense for the majority of the contract. We will be paying Fabregas, Kroos close to £200k and my opinion is Rooney will go which frees up £300k apparently.

£10mil a year for Yaya's next 4 years would be fine by me.

I agree with you though that it is less than a remote possibility.

I'm off to bed now dreaming of buying Kompany!

Agree0 Disagree0

Try £25m a year if you include wages and signing on fee spread over four years.

As I'm bored I thought I'd add to this weeks marmite topic: Arjen Robben.

The Case For:

Already knows the manager and his methods.
Links well with van Persie for the national team.
Brings in much needed experience after the loss of several senior player.
Good player for januzaj to learn off (lets face it the alternative is Young. )
Top class player at his peak.
Has premier league experience.

The Case Against.

Is 31 so is only a short term fix.
Fee would be high and we have bigger priorities for big money in defence and midfield.
Could block first team chances for younger players.

I can see the arguments for and against. Personally i'd take him if the fee was sensible and he was the only signing over 26. But as the fee would be high i'd look elsewhere

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's 31 next year.

I would prefer a Reus, but if the price was reasonable and Reus wasn't available, then I would go for it.

Agree0 Disagree0

He would be good for two or three years. I am also not surprised to see us linked with Konoplyanka. Robben + one of Konoplyanka or Depay would represent good signings to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would go for Depay he plays wide left which is the position we need not wide right, he young and full of potential

Agree0 Disagree0

I think our wide options would be brilliant if we had Robben as the elder statesman and Depay / Januzaj the other options. Very pacey, direct, skillful and plenty of potential for goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think strengthening on the wings should be our top priority - or at the very least up there with the other areas. Carrick, Cleverley and Fellaini are on a par with Nani, Young and Valencia. The same could be said of Jones, Smalling and Evans.

The fact of the matter is; all three areas are way below the standard required to compete on all fronts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Evening lads. Just a quick question for Ed or anybody.

Would anyone be happy if we was to invest in Ross Barkley?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I wouldn't mind seeing him at Utd but I don't think he should be a priority this summer. I see him as more of a buy for the future whereas Utd need to buy for the here and now.}

Now Moyes has gone our chances have increased on that one, but not this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have a feeling Chelsea will snap him up to replace Lampard

Hi Eds,

This is all pure speculation that I've been putting together in my head, wishful thinking I'd say.

But with Yaya Toure being "unsettled" is there any chance in hell that we would make a cheeky move for him, we would get a few years from him at his prime and I think he would solve a lot of our midfield issues whilst we bring up some younger players.

It would take a lot of money and we could probably spend it better elsewhere but it would be a real statement of intent.

Thanks for all you do Eds and answering these crazy questions

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - No.}

Yaya is a great player but I can't see City selling to us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for pulling me back down to Earth Bond!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Don't mention it buddy, we aim to please :)

Bearing in mind the reason he might want to leave city, would we really want somebody like that at our club? It is pathetic, and of course we wouldn't even consider a bid.

Agree0 Disagree0

If you mean the birthday cake? that is just a excuse don't think he is that bothered over that, just feel its time to go back to barca and perform, to make up for not doing much when he was at barca and he was over looked think it is a ego thing and he just wants to go back to barca retire and play his best football

Agree0 Disagree0

Given that we're currently linked to most of the Dutch national side, honestly you could almost make a team out of it, which players would you most like to sign?

Out of janmaat, indi, willems, de vrij, blind, clasie, strootman, depay, robben. Just missing a keeper really.

Personally if I were to pick 3 I would go for indi, clasie and blind although if strootman were fully fit it would be him.

What about everybody else?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can see us going for Martins Indi either this summer. He is a CB who is also a good LB. We could in theory let Evra leave and sell Buttner if we signed Indi. Perhaps even use Buttner in the deal if Feyenoord want him. I don't know much about the others. Shappy would be a good one to ask.

Agree0 Disagree0

Indi, Robben/Depay and Strootman.
On a side note, why are we not after Semih Kaya?

Agree0 Disagree0

Depay, Clasie, Indi

HOWEVER if you add:
Kroos, Fabregas, Shaw and Garay

Then we have ourselves a team. One can only dream though

Agree0 Disagree0

TV had a piece on the Ajax 95 team yesterday evening. What a side they had.

Agree0 Disagree0

Depay, Strootman, and Robben!

Agree0 Disagree0

Just took a look at Clasie on Youtube and to be fair is looks like a young Cleverley. A young Cleverley that wasn't afraid to pass the ball forward and burst forward. For me he looks a decent player, but not great. We need great really. Kroos or/and Cesc for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

The ajax team was a bit special

Agree0 Disagree0

I would take Strootman, Depay, Robben and Indi out of those three. I like Janmaat but if there was a young right back to go for I would go for Sebastian Jung.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2014 15:43:39
Martins Indi could be as good as Stam in a few years so let's get him now.

Depay has great potential but his attitude could destroy it for him, but van Gaal is probably one of the few managers I feel could set him on the right path to stardom.

If Strootman was fully fit then i'd take him in a heartbeat, but he wouldn't be fit until january.

So if we're ruling him out then i'd sign Daley Blind over Jordy Clasie for a few reasons, one being if van Gaal can bring out the best in Cleverley then he is a very similar player to Clasie. Another is that if we sign Kroos as expected then we have a creative player in the middle and Blind would offer a more defensive option. And finally Blind is a leader on the pitch and we need a few more of them.

So for me Martins Indi, Depay and Blind due to Strootmans injury.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't mind janmaat, indi and depay then none dutch players to be shaw kroos and vidal :)

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't mind if we didn't sign any dutch players to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

I saw a few posts on building for the future. This is LVG's last job, and he has about 3 years left. Would he really sacrifice his personal ambitions just to build for the future? His quotes say otherwise. Imo he will go for players who will be up for it now and maybe a few for the future depending on availability. Its the guys last job and i'm sure he'd want to go out on a high

Believable0 Unbelievable0

3 year contract doesn't mean much. I wouldn't be surprised if he does well that the deal is extended, just depends on performance and how ready Giggs is.

If he intends to retire in 3 years then I would imagine legacy issues will come into it, but a 3 year plan focussing on a few older heads (Robben) isn't a bad idea, as we need to get back to the top quick and waiting for youth or unproven to step up could be too much of a gamble. A short term fix with half an eye on up and coming is sensible. In 3 years Janujaz, Powell, DDG, Smalling, Jones, Rafael, Shaw will all be solid and hopefully better, we can then get back to adding a couple of young players and a couple of big signings each season, rather than constant overhauls. Obviously over young talent like Lawrence, Wilson etc will benefit from training with world class talent.

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree, most of the targets we are linked with are younger. We are loosing a lot of experience in the dressing room so he may want one or two older heads in there. We are linked with Depay, him and Januzaj will be on the wings for years. In the middle Kroos (24), Jordy Clasie (22). The centre backs we are linked with are also of a decent age personally I am not too worried about him loading the squad with 30 somethings as the board wouldn't allow it as they will have a clear strategy (you would think).

Agree0 Disagree0

Beast,
Coming from the horses mouth, he said it was either united/spurs or retirement. So I don't expect him to hang around more than 3 years.
However it would be a bonus if he builds for the future as well or buys players who would be ready in a year or two at max, like Clasie.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its not just up to lvg though is it.
It would look like the club have decided to buy shaw and kroos not lvg. Would the club want to blow top cash on 30 + year old players with no chance of a sell on and knowing they would then have to shell out more cash in a couple of years to replace them.

It would seem the club look like spending a large amount of cash this summer I am sure the plan will be to spend it with an eye on building fir the future.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred, I don't think we see ourselves as a selling club and if we want success but the right player is old then the selling on fee shouldn't be an issue that comes in to it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fresh
If you think a business like united isn't run with that in mind your nuts maybe not a rule but it will be an issue.
Also a player at 25 for 30 mill is much better deal than a 30 year old for 20.
Its not a game its real life.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Saha was unplayable at his best.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are we in the twilight zone?

Agree0 Disagree0

Saha all day long, he could have been better than Cole if it weren't for the injuries. Berbatov is too slow for a Utd team, although he is undoubtedly amazing with the ball, just not enough pace or movement.

Agree0 Disagree0

Definitely King Louis. If only he wasn't injured all the time.

I imagine all this Yaya talk is just for more cash, but what do you think it would take to get him?

The problems are age (for some) and obviously money - but he would transform our team in one move and would be worth 2 top class signings. If he is unsettled then boy would he be a coup, especially as he is particularly close to his brother and he might want to stay in the North West.

I reckon £40mil, £200k a week, captaincy and 5 year contract. Worth a punt if you ask me.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

40 mil for a 31 year old. some deals are just not worth it! plus we would look persons if he rejected us

Agree0 Disagree0

R u joking, i'm not sure

Agree0 Disagree0

£40m for a 31 year old spoiled brat, no thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Was wondering how long and who would post that kind of message. No way is that or should that happen. Total prima donna. Five year contract! Beast, whatever you're smoking man, I'd lay off it, especially in the mornings. Do we really want a player who has a hissy fit because he didn't get a party bag! I wish Keano was still playing, he would destroy Yaya over that one!

Agree0 Disagree0

Not joking Jred but obviously its a massive reach. It does seem a lot but I think you would get 4 years out of him at least, he would be immense and exactly what we need. That goes for any team to be fair. Not to mention the likes of Powell training with him everyday would do wonders for him.

It would be his last contract Syd so wouldn't worry about petulance after that.

We'd make a load in sponsorships in Africa as well and no doubt open up millions of new fans as the continent continues to get more investment. Probably pay for itself.

Agree0 Disagree0

I honestly thought u where joking

Agree0 Disagree0

He has thrown his toys out of the pram because he wasn't wished happy birthday. No matter how good he is I wouldn't want the spoilt little runt anywhere near the club. He's 31 for christ sake and he's moaning a big enough deal wasn't made over his birthday. A 6 year old wouldn't act like it.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is crazy maybe playing too much Footy Manager, but if there is the slightest chance we should take it.

But seriously with Kroos & potentially Fab we would dominate anyway, no opposition would touch the ball.

Agree0 Disagree0

Beast, loads of sponsorship money from Africa, are you serious? I've heard it all now.

The only way I would want Yaya is if he was a free transfer. £40m for a 31 year old?

That's crazy talk. Giving a 5-year multi-million deal to a 31 year old spoilt brat is suicide.

Id rather find the next yaya to be honest. We don't have a good record with African players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Chippy, to be fair the "birthday" thing is just a smokescreen. We know that they mentioned his birthday on Twitter, we know that they presented him with a cake and sang him happy birthday. He is either itching for a move or he is doing a Tevez and hoping to get a salary on par with Aguero. He knows at 31 he doesn't have long left. He wants is final big pay off.

Going off the agents comments it isn't the fact he wasn't wished a happy birthday or bought a cake or had his hand shook its to do with that the club didn't get him an expensive gift. The agent made a big deal that the president of Anzhi bought Roberto Carlos a Bugatti for his birthday. The guy is a total mercenary and is either angling for a pay rise or an excuse to bog off for a last big pay day elsewhere. A player i'd rather avoid no matter how talented.

Beast

I agree with that I think the same applies to robben .
We all want to see top players at united but we haven't got unlimited cash .
Imo you don't build teams by throwing bags of money at players coming to the end of there careers .
We should of went for yaya when he left barce and robben when he left madrid but we never.
Like some one above we should be looking for the next robben and yaya

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd - Africa is the next SE Asia & India, and if you get in there now you will benefit for a generation. There is loads of money being pumped in, China is investing there more than anywhere else. Zimbabwe gets more investment from China than any country in Africa and that was a dead dog a couple of years ago. Japan pushing hard over there, the US, France, us, even Brazil, matter of time before mega money is flowing around and football will be a massive cash cow.

All the kids play football, many speak English or are learning - they are all watching the Prem.

I would love us to explore the potential over there, invest in academies etc. Undoubtedly our commercial people will be looking into how to tap that market, buying the best African player would certainly help that progress and would pay for itself. It will enable us to attract the future Yaya's and Drogba's before they reach the big time or move to France. I bet PSG & Monaco have affiliations already.

Agree0 Disagree0

Beast, we already have soccer schools in Africa and we have already tapped into some African ventures. Globocom being one of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

The Beast,

Your posts are getting worse as they go along. Do you support Manchester United the football club or Manchester United the business?

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with beast in the sense its an untapped resource we should be looking at the next generation of African talent. Imagine finding the African januzaj? Its an area we should be looking into as opposed the the last few years focus on south America.

Jred that was me that said about finding the next yaya. I agree to a point on not signing aging superstars but I could see the value in signing perhaps just one like robben.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wonder if his head has been turned by his agent, trying to get him away from City for one last payday for both of them. City would struggle to replace him, so here's hoping.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred - the problem is whilst we look for players like the best, our competitors are signing players who ARE the best. This is how we got into this mess in the first place, Nani, Anderson, Jones, Smalling, Hernandez, Fabio - these players were the next Ronaldo, Scholes, Rio, Vidic, Rooney, Evra - but in reality they are nowhere near. We spend £10m-£20m on most of them and end up with squad players or worse and waste 4-5 years getting them to that. If we want to compete domestically not to mention Europe we need proven top class now to steady the ship. That includes the likes of Robben.

It's all well and good investing in decent potential or good players, but we need an injection of quality. Fabregas, Kroos, Robben, Hummels, are proven quality. 3 of which have plenty of years left so I agree mid-20's is fine, but you then have to look at what our competitors are doing. You won't get a better winger than Robben at the moment, Ronaldo & Messi aren't available. we have 2 years at least out of him.

Yaya is a fantasy but he would be immense and I wouldn't baulk at £40mil for 3-4 years, and as mentioned that can be offset with sponsorships, merchandise and benefit to youngsters blossoming rather than wasting away.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok I'll leave this one now as I'm boring myself.

Syd asked are you for real with Africa so I explained. Obviously the simple point is that I think there are many benefits for going after Yaya.

Agree0 Disagree0

Beast
Kroos 24
Fabergas 27
Shaw 20.

I would also like any of
Hummels 25
Martinez 25
Reus 24
Sanchez 25.

There are plenty of players out there that could be bought at a good age and we could build a team with .
No need to be buying robben and yaya at 30+ years old

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Jred,

Shockingly Shaw is just 18.

Agree0 Disagree0

Some funny posts on here today. A bit of football withdrawal and a few posters have entered a strange parallel universe. Seek therapy Beast. Yaya? Fellaini!
Don't worry, the World Cup is round the corner and then a couple of week's to the start of the season.
I went to football match in Ghana a few years ago, absolutely mental! Definitely not the future!

Agree0 Disagree0

City would rather keep him in reserves rather then sell him to anyone, to think we could sign him is just silly talk come back down to earth haha

Internet going mad with the rumours of Kroos and Fabregas transfer developments, I am very sceptical about either coming in.
However, if we were able to get both in would you guys be happy with that or do you think we would still be lacking that physical midfielder in the Strootman/Vidal mould?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would be more than happy

Agree0 Disagree0

If we sign those two I don't think it's essential, because our ball retention will be 10 times better than it is now. We have Fellaini to break things up in the big games, so I would spend on a CB and 2 wingers if we nail those 2 on (Shaw coming of course).

Agree0 Disagree0

I would go for Vidal and Strootman instead of Kroos and Fab. Vidal is more dynamic and Strootman has more power.

I think Vidal and Strootman would offer a similar midfield duo to Viera and Petit back in the day. Now if that could be replicated we would be on our way to reasserting ourselves back at the top where we belong.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just depends if he wants ball retention or counter attack. Happy with either duo to be honest.

Hey eds/all,
Do united plan in trying forms couple of young ditch talents like martins-Indi, depay etc?is there truth in the links with united and konoplyanka?i remember Ed02 was spot on as always with the interest in January so does it remain?thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

MU have had an interest in Kono for a while and at £12m, he would be cheap. If he turns out to be not quite up to scratch or he doesn't settle, then we could use him as a makeweight for Reus in the future. Seems a low risk buy to me.
