just reading down a bit i seen someone say rafeal doesnt get enough assists or something
so i went to check how many he has this season
he has 4 in the lge
the most any defender has is 6 (evra cole richards)
only one of them is a rb richards who has played a good bit over double the amount of minutes in the lge this season as rafeal
now the 2 lbs
evra has played well over 3 times as many mins as him and cole is almost exactly 3times as many mins
so basically saying he gets hardly any assists is silly :P

also
rafael age 21
richards age 23
cole 31
evra 30
so he is younger than them all and also has a better assist rate than them

Put it this way, I can't wait for the derby because imo we'll be going into it as underdogs, and how many times have United played tremendously when we were 1 or 2 goals down, especially in the Chelsea match when we came from 3 goals down. This is where we have the edge over other teams, United's never back down attitude has won us titles before, memories from that night in 1999 come to mind. I hope we can stick to our namesake in the next couple games.

I may have let my anger at the end of the game get the better of me earlier, this is why i normally leave going on here until i've calmed down and looked at things properly. C'est la vie.

So what have we learnt from today? Well nothing new really, we need someone to come in a left back and either force Evra into upping his game or to replace him. We need a steely force in midfield to add that bite were currently missing. And above all else we need someone who can set the team up properly in a tactical sense, were naive to the extreme at times and we've lost that ability to alter our game to see out games. I can't remember the last time i saw anyone from our dugout issuing instructions to our players out on the pitch, that i think is our biggest problem.

So what positives can we take from the game? Well Nani looked in good form which is good as Valencia is looking abit Jaded in the last couple of games. Welbeck was immense, scored a beauty and assisted two others. And our defence got a bashing, now i know that doesn't sound like a positive but i thought we looked abit risky at the back for the last few weeks so hopefully this means we'll work alot on our defending over the next week which will be important before we play City.

Moving on to the City game i feel we need to clog up the midfield in order to council out the threat they pose from their powerful midfield, I'd go for a midfield three as we don't have a midfield two combination better than the three players we'll face from City. They will play De Jong and Yaya as well as Barry i would expect so to counter that i'd go with Carrick Scholes and Cleverley, all who can take the fight from City but are better ball players to keep control of the game from the centre. Rafael didn't have a great game today but i feel he has to start next week as they play more with pace rather than power and Rafa deals with pace much better than Smalling or Jones. The rest of the defence picks itself. Now the front three is where it gets interesting I'd go with Nani Rooney and Welbeck, I know dropping Valencia seems silly but i feel he's looked alittle of colour the last couple of games, he was coming back from injury at the start of the season so maybe is starting to suffer abit from burn out, we have relied heavily on him the last few months. I've gone with Welbeck due to his performance today and his work rate, i also feel that Young being in the game from the start could work against us with his recent antics on the pitch. So i feel we should line up like this:

_________DDG
Rafa__Evans__Rio__Evra
_Scholes_Carrick_Cleverley
Nani____Rooney___Welbeck

This would give us the stability and we'd have Valencia Young Giggs and Hernandez to change things if needed. I'd bring Valencia on for Scholes after about 70 mins as he can play in midfield and has that ability to drive on from the centre and after 70 mins Scholes will be tiring as will City's midfield. Young would also get on at some point for either Nani or Welbeck to offer something different and to help see out the game as he is better defensively than them two. Jones could also get on for Cleverley depending on how he is coping with his fitness after being out for so long.

I would like to raise the two further examples today that showed Evra to be a liability like he has been all season. Two of their goals came down his flank, in fact they were particularly interested in attacking down his side. He contributed going forwards, but even Nani played behind him at times and covered.

I really hope a left back comes in, many of the linked names will be an improvement, maybe Jordi Alba or Aly Cissokho.

I can understand some of the nepotism surrounding today, We were poor defensively and I can even understand some of the worry, As fans fear a repeat of the 1-6 drubbing, But all in all we are genuinely spoilt as fans, It's far from over, The clue is in the club name, "United" That's what has always seperated us, when we've had our backs to the wall. This is where we need to be the twelth man, We are not owed anything. But have faith, and win, lose, or draw, Still support the club. Or you might aswell buy a City,Chelsea,Barca,Real,PSG Shirt and follow the other mega spending clubs. the moto is there " B3LI3V3 " And please what do you think in fighting looks like to all the Micky Mousers and Berties coming on here? That performance is a hard one to sum up.

We got ourselves into a winning position twice yet threw it away. You could see we were tiring and needed a substitution but it just didnt come and I have to question why. We got the third and dropped back, we got the fourth and dropped deep bringing them on to us, why? Who is deciding the substitutions and how the team set up. You could see Felliani was causing problems, to be honest he bullied Evans for the whole game, winning nearly every header so why when two goals up did SAF not bring on Jones to play in front of the defence and compete with him or Smalling at right back to freshen us up and give us a bit more height?

Sat there we never felt comfortable even with the two goal lead and in this debacle has handed the initiative back to City. No doubt there will be a lot of bravado on here but we have given ourselves a problem as we have also let them build up the goal difference.

We never do things easy but to concede four goals at home is criminal. We have not been playing that well and our composure is nowhere near previous sides, it has to be said we are lucky to be top and this isnt a vintage United side. We miss the quality of great players and a good tactically aware No2. Yet we are still in there fighting somehow.

Well we now need to get something next Monday but who knows what this team will do, after all we nearly threw away the cup game from 3 nil up against their 10 men. We need to get our tactics right and also decide whether to change the defence for next weekend. After a long period of playing well there are signs that Evans level has dropped off both today and against Wigan, he looked shaky today and we cant afford anything like that on Monday.

We need quality in the team for next season and days like today only strengthen that feeling and if one good thing comes out of today , it is that it should make that need crystal clear to Gill & the owners.

Everybody talks about which players we should sign but to me getting a better number 2 is just as important. Everybody knows tactics isn't one of SAF's strengths. Just go back to the CL final, not saying we were going to beat Barca but we just served it up for them. In the past few games there have been strange team selections and strange use of subs. Alot of people don't want the special one to succeed SAF, but I don't think there is a better tactical manager in the world. You may not like the methods but you can't argue the result.

Lets think realistically, we are still 3 points clear and the title race remains in our hands. We can still effectively win the title next Monday so nothing has really changed! The goals we scored were great and its encouraging that Rooney played well as did Nani who will be pivotal if we want to beat City.

The important thing to remember is that the title is in our hands.

Lastly, if you want to cheer yourselves up, just think that Liverpool lost to West Brom today at Anfield. It seems that their multi-million pound strike force couldn't hit the back of the net even if they were paid to do it (oh, they are).

It seems to me that according to everybody we've blown the title and we're 743786589346757634785 points behind City...We've had so many unnamed posters on here, probably as many as we had when we got knocked out the UCL and got beat by city.

I'd just like to point out to everyone that we are still top of the league and people are acting like the City game next week has already been lost. we have as much chance as they do.

So, just to recap, We're 3 points clear. there is no reason why we can't be 6 points clear next week either.

How about we do what we're supposed to do? get behind our team, rally the support and show City just how good of a club we are and we won't roll over for them.

Think we've blown it. I think we were fortunate to win the league last season so that was a bonus and i hoped we would do the same again this season because we've had some dodgy games. If it wasn't for some lucky decisions we could be further behind. Think we need to face the facts, many players not utd standard, time to open the cheque book and also give the youngsters a chance.

If SAF has a weakness, to me, it's the of subs. Why wasn't Scoles taken off when we were up 4-2, Jones and Smalling should have been put in. I don't know about the rest of you but I never felt comfortable even with the 2 goal lead. That was the time to go more defensive and bring in more combative in players. I think we just need to get a result, a draw would have been fine. Does anybody remember a more anticipated league game then this one? Kind of glad we will be underdogs on the game and I'm sure alot of people are writing us off.

There is only one real positive I can take from today's game and that was the return of Nani. He was brilliant out of the left today in what I think what was his first game back starting. Long may that continue.
However onto the rest of our team. I think major signings are required this year. At times this season we have looked lost and generally extremely poor. Now getting Vidic back will be like a new signing. The leadership that he commands will be an extra boost for next season. Although that will not be enough for us imo. Liverpool, Arsenal, City and Chelsea will all look to improve as will Madrid and Barcelona so we NEED to improve. Now 4 signings are needed for this summer imo. A deadly Striker up front to pair with Rooney. Hernandez and Welbeck just arent good enough to be regulars at this moment in time though they could be, Welbeck took his goal well today. I would love to see Higuain come in. There is no doubting the mans ability. He is probably the best goal scorer in the world and Welbeck and Hernandez could only get better with him at trainings. His positioning is God Like. It is that good. Also Madrid are rumoured to be trying to sell him to afford Cavani so for around 25-30 million for someone who will garuntee you 20+ goals a season in the premiership it would be a massive statement made to the rest of the premiership.
Two central midfielders are imo needed. I know a lot of people will disagree with that but it was what I feel we need two quality midfielders in. I think Anderson has had long enough unfortunately and he is too inconsistent for us which I regret to say I really do as I have always liked him and rated him. Giggs and Park are not good enough anymore and I dont think either will be here next year. Scholes is aging but is still quality but he shouldn't be given as much work to do next year. That leaves us with Carrick (who is aging but i rate HIGHLY), Cleverley (no one knows how good he will be but again I rate highly), Scholes and Pogba + Petrucci (who both aren't experienced but could be world beaters.) Now the two midfielders I would sign could imo work unbelievably well together and suit each other styles of play. The first one being Javi Martinez. A fan favourite on here and rightly so. I have been watching him all season and been a huge admirer since before the world cup and was dissapointed at the lack of game time he was given. The next would be Christian Eriksen. I rate the kid highly and firmly believe he could play the role Scholesy has been playing for us recently and under Scholes guidance could become a phenomenal player. So we would have two people who both have the potential to dictate games on their owns. Martinez is obviously more defensive and is like the second coming of Xabi Alonso and Eriksen who is a wonderful player, seems to be hardworking and his passing is very good. Also pops up with a few goals and has a deadly set piece be it from a corner or a free kick. Something we are lacking. That would leave you with a midfield option of Carrick, Cleverley, Eriksen, Martinez, Pogba and Petrucci and in that you have very good defenders in Carrick and Martinez, and very good attackers in Eriksen, Cleverley and the always impressive Petrucci (when i see him play), alongside the box to box Pogba who is something special. We might even get Fletcher back some time next year from illness to provide another box to box midfielder.
Now the last position I think needs buying is a left back. Evra has been a ticking time bomb all season and seems to continually explode. It is not that he does it once every now and again, it has now become a frequent occurance and needs sorting out imo. I would love to see Bale but I think we will go for someone like Izaguirre or Cissoko, but I trust whoever Fergie thinks is good enough.
Now I don't know if we would have the necessary finance to sign those players but it is obvious for all of us to see that Manutd need to buy this summer. Be it just one midfielder and a left back well then so be it. Fergie obviously knows more about it than most of us on here apart from Ed 1 ;) .... just kidding.
So who else thinks a team like this would be devastating next season
De Gea
Rafael Smalling Vidic Izza/Cissoko
Eriksen Martinez
Valencia Rooney Nani
and with the following who could all come on a do a job, Lindengaard, Jones, Smalling, Rio, Evans, Fryers, Carrick, Scholes, Cleverley, Pogba + Petrucci, Young, Welbeck, Hernandez...
What would anyone else do this summer if we are to believe Gill that signings will be made. I think it was Sydney that said he thinks only 2 signings will be made. I can't quite remember...
The Red Manc {Ed004's Note - That team would be brilliant next year. I would probably chose Izaguirre because Bond has given me good reviews about him}

I have to say United have not looked like champions all season despite the impressive number of points ( some decidely dodgy by the way )

Ashley Youngs dive last weekend was the pits for me, and may just be Uniteds undoing.

Any 50/50 decisions from now to the end of the season may just become 60/40....but not in Uniteds favour. Refs will not allow whats happened to continue, they will close ranks.

Todays game was decided on football not sending offs or cheating....and in simple terms, United couldnt hack it. ( Despite YET ANOTHER 5 mins of FERGIE time).

Cant you all see that united have been getting the rub of the green constantly this season?

This could now be a very interesting finish to the season, as the title is now in CITYS own hands. If they win their remaining games, they win the league and theres nothing United can do about it.

I know your hurting now boys, but trust me ..... this could be the start of the decline and it may be all just about to get worse.

A season with nowt in the trophy room could be on the horizon. I told you Fergie was over the hill boys, he should be shuffling in line for his soup with me

I can't really fault the game today, It was a terrific game of football I'm disappointed by the result obviously and my only criticism would have been to shut up shop as soon as we went either 3-1 up or 4-2 up.

Nonetheless, all 8 goals were top draw and you can't blame any player for any of them. Everton played brilliantly I just wonder where this Everton side was against Liverpool last week.

Wonderful game of football, terrible result.

City will most likely win today but I think we'll get a draw next week at City so i'm not worrying just yet.

I wish I didn't watch the game! At this time o the season a so experienced team  like us can't keep 4-2 lead in 10 mins, with still subs to make? F***c

Why took to late for SAF to put an extra MID for enforcement since we never had tranquility in both sectors(MID and Defence)?

Wow, Carrick, Scholes, Ferd and Evans just let Jelavic and Fellaini do whatever they wanted In our defense zone. Nothing is lost yet, we've to play City and they at Newcastle and things will happen till then! This defense scares me.
Lastly, Mr. Patrice Evra, wow this guy will cost us the title if u saw the entire season.

We can take at least a point at Ethiad, derby is always a derby and I really think we can beat city if we play as a team when defending and attack.

Well what a game that was! Unbelievable really, but why do fans insist on slating players on the basis of one game? Yes United should have closed the game out when 3-1 or 4-2 up and with the experience of the players on the pitch they should have done exactly that. You can't blame Fergie for tactics or substitutions as the players themselves had in their hands.

Whatever happens now in the Wolves game still makes the derby next Monday a massive game. The biggest game I can remember for a while, but also a similar game to the Chelsea game last season.

On another note, if we sure up our defence, play 3 in the middle and Nani and Rooney play the way they did today, I can't see anything but a win against s**tty next week.

Would everyone stop knee jerking, it's painful and immature. We're 6 points ahead for now, if we lose to City then start talking about losing the title. So, this further backs up my argument about Moyes ;)

everyone is going to say now the titles cities to lose because a shocker against everton but the day we lost the title was losing to wigan 1-0 the first time theyd taken a point of us in the premier leagu and its when we needed to win being 8 clear then would of allowed us a draw but now we are relying on city to fail {Ed004's Note - I can almost garuntee they won't. Not vs Wolves who already seem to know they are down}

Unbelievable

The only word you can use to describe what was one of the strangest, but most exciting games I've seen in a while.

1st half was very poor. Neither team really took too many risks and the nerves of the fans today got to the players. I don't know how United always manage to make it so hard for themselves at this stage of the season, but I suppose we shouldn't be surprised.

City away is now one of the biggest games in years. Bring it on.

i thought we were manchester united and we could win when it mattered this season has been an odd one on all accounts losing 3-0 to newcastle 3-2 to blackburn 1-0 to wigan but come on losing to wigan when that would of pretty much sealed it for us whats hapened to the steely man united that get the job done

I think we Got it tactically wrong in the last 15 mins...
Scholes is not meant to last 90 mins...
Jones for Scholes and Smalling for Rafael should have happened in last 15 mins...

Match vs City will be crucial so will be City's clash against Newcastle.. They are on top form.

3-1 up and then 4-2 up and still cant close the game. Some of the goals we let in were a joke. You give hibbert so much time and space to get a cross in and we pay for it. Evra at fault again. ***ckin liability. 3rd goal both rio and evans go for the ball against felliani leaving rafael with no chance to get to jelavic. 4th everton goal we just get drawn to the ball and dont watch the runner.

How costly is this draw against Everton? Title?

Believable6 Unbelievable0

22 Apr 2012 14:36:19
that is the reason i like fellaini big strong good on the ball in both areas and what were we thinkin trying to get 5 when we should of consolidated the lead at 3-1 and played on the break awful

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Up 2 goals with 7 minutes and we can't hold a lead, speechless. We didn't learn our lesson when it was 3-2. Why no sub at that point and go with an extra midfielder? Shocking defending, didn't understand why we are pushing for another when we were up 2.

Absolutely shocking defensive play today, all i can say is that i hope that Wolves can maybe hold city to a draw, however i doubt it and like may predicted, the title will either be lost or won at the derby. On a lighter note, Nani imo played brilliantly today and i couldnt help but notice how he drifted inside when we were in Everton's third, linking up with valencia much more.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

22 Apr 2012 14:33:32
Everytime we don't get the win we come up here and throw everything we have and always looking for guilts. My biggest concern was the MID that only new how to go up front and was never capable o help our weak defenders and most important, was the late reaction from Sir Alex Fergunson when comes to subs.

My point of view we should've put somebody into the game in the MID to destroy Everton's players in front of the box. Okay, when the team is playing well there's no need to change, but when the other team is also playing well you have to make an extra card. They scored right after the 3-1 so they never give up, so why not put an extra MID?

Now what we're very close to not win the PL if we don't beat City or at least get a draw 5 pray for Newcastle maintain the great form.

Really disappointed to slip a game like this.

Well now we have made it as hard as we possibly could. We have to win at the council house or thats the title blown. Not playing Scholes against Wigan looks like a huge mistake now, but if were honest we shouldn't be relying on a 38yo. Tactically this is season is the worst i've ever seen us play. Get Phelan the f*** outta there and bring in someone with abit of tactical nouse or it won't matter who we sign as we'll just be playing crap football with better players. I need a drink. Come on Wolves we need a miricule.

Why have we forgotten how to kill games like these off. Evra has to go. Such a liability. We played some brilliant football at times but awful defending. We need a defensive centre mid of high quality and someone to lead the team as Evra doesn't do that. Also some one to pull the strings. Poor. Winning at city is a must now.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

22 Apr 2012 14:32:22
What a game! So exciting, both teams were excellent in the second half, way below par in the first. So I suppose it's Young's turn to be abused and said he should be sold, yawn. Although I'm not happy with the result, some of the football we played was brilliant and there were 8 great goals. Nani's and Pienaar's are my pick because of the build up. In any case, now we just have to win at City, we always do it the hard way, why should this season be any different?

Rio, Evans, Scholes & Carrick repeatedly let Fellaini have the ball without attempting to out-jump him or beat him to the ball. That is where it went wrong all game. That is why the manager brought on Jones, but it was too late by then. Evra misses from a yard out which would have made it 5.2 and a couple minutes later we are 4.4. City win next week and the title is theirs.

Sydney! {Ed004's Note - Turning point of the game was the Evra miss imo}

I think that is the mostl likely scenario, Cleverly, Young, Hernandez and Jones will almost all certainly make the bench.

"I would rather see Petrucci get his chance before bringing someone of Allens standard. If we are to bring someone in they need to be an existing world class player because at the moment we lack the fear factor.

Your team included Nani and You g but not Valencia which is poor. Nani must be due a good game soon maybe even today but to select him over Valencia is not right
Finally where are our goals coming from and what happens if Rooney picks up an injury?

We need a world class striker to play with Rooney and take the pressure off him. We also need a left footed player to give us balance. It is ridiculous to watch free kicks where our only option is right footed. We need a left footed player in place of young and nani with Valencia on the right

Young is predictable in that he cuts back to his right foot nearly all the time and makes it difficult for the forwards to time their runs"

Red Man

Who is a world class CM that's available? Xavi? Schweinsteiger? Yaya Toure? No, I feel Allen, Cleverley and Pogba can all be world class.

I chose Nani and Young because they're better footballers, from what I understand, that's what United are aiming for. We don't need a world class striker, but we could do with a left footer.

People's transfer hopes on here are more predictable than Ashley Young.

There is no doubt United has one of its weakest squad in recent times. Statistics can be quite misleading because United stands comfortably amongst the likes of Real, Barca in the points table, but the truth is United has one of its toughest season. Most of the matches were evenly contested and United has been in constant threat in terms of attempts on goal and shots on target.
Whats fascinating about the stats is that i think we have a fantastic keeper in DDG, in his debut season and ever increasing in confidence. V Valdes & Cassilas are top keepers, but still they manage to concede 26 & 30 goals (in the Liga) respectively though their team having dominated most of the time. United has conceded only 28 in League under trying circumstances.

We may not have Messi or Ronaldo, but very soon we might be saying we have DDG.

I see the 'special one' practically has the league in his pocket and if chelsea beat barca, he might very well have the champions league in his pocket. If this is the case, he might be looking at a move away from Madrid at the end of the season, most likely back to the premier league.
But the thing is, i see fergy sticking around for a couple of more seasons after this one. Which means jose will be forced to look at another EPL club. I just hope its not City because i wonder what jose can do with a couple of 100m pounds and the ability to attract some of the best players in the world, especially with United in the middle of a transition and sir alex at the end of his career.
I would definately rather have mourinho for us than against us.

Striker, creative nd defensive CM's, LB and a mercurial player would be just what the doctor orderd. higuain, eriksen, mousa sissoko and lucas as the mercurial player. Left back option is undecided. One of the commentators said about lucas in the match played against Bragantino "how do the defenders defend against lucas when they dont know what he is going to do next? he,doesnt even know what he is going to do next". Encouraging words. What ever happened to Sotiris Ninis? And do we actually need a forward minded lefty? They are kinda scarce. what do you have to say bout that ed?
