Believable0 Unbelievable0

Still our best left winger, absolute class act. Just unbelievable really. I'd have him start every game from left midfield next season.

How does it feel to be City?

How does it feel to be small?

How does it feel when your team wins nothing at all?

Wrong question. Everyone knows, they are used to it.
Not my intent to hurt city fans but can't stop replying to this post :)

I've seen many title clinchers over the years, in the flesh, but none have given me as much joy as tonights. I was there with my son beside me, and to see his innocent excitement and enthusiasm, brought a lump to my throat.

I got more hugs off him tonight, than I have in the last 5 years.

And he got to see the legend that is Ryan Giggs.

Truly a happy man tonight.

ps anyone seen a lanky 10 year old with long curly hair? He was gone when I came back out of the Trafford Bar. I told him to wait!

Chelsea fan
Just like to congratulate you on your title well deserved.
Fergie has done it again not the best team you have had but you just know how to grind it out
Quick question next season who do you think will be your biggest rivals for the title
Gareth1973 {Ed004's Note - I couldn't say until transfers have been made. If Chelsea sign a striker such as Falcao they will be very hard to beat and will be right up there. Though they need to choose a good manager}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Impossible to tell until we see who's managing City & Chelsea next season as well as what signings are made. I honestly think Chelsea have a top quality core to their squad and could be right up there in the EPL with a bit of stability and a top CM and ST. The terrible trio are frightening to watch at times!

Agree0 Disagree0

Chelsea are a big if for me. I think their participation in the Europa league will cost them a champs league place, which will heavily affect their ability to get a top manager and striker which they would certainly need to mount a serious challenge. Although with mata, hazard and Oscar they always have a chance. What a fantastic trio of creative players that is.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2013 23:49:31
Thanks. I see chelsea, if you appoint a good manager who's not a puppet, signs the four players you need, clears the rubbish out and also if roman stops interfering. Spurs if they get champions league, keep bale and trust avb and let him spend. I suppose city as well but depends what happens with the manager. If they keep mancini and buy better than they did last summer its a three way fight. If they bring in a new manager then as long as its not Jose he'll need a season to adapt. Think arsenal will struggle next year if they miss out on champions league.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2013 22:56:28
So we managed to scrape a 3-0 against a struggling side. This team is average beyond belief, dodgy keeper, injury probe centre halves, no midfield, aging legends in Scholes and giggs that need to retire, wingers that don't score. Rooney who apparently is past it. Can't wait for sit Alex to retire and get some fresh blood in.

At least that what some of the regular posters will have you believe. Think there's a few people tucking into humble pie tonight.

We are champions, proud to be red and proud to support everyone that pulls on a united shirt. Well done every single player this season.

Unbelievable night, it was written in the stars! Title 20 delivered by none other than RVP with not just a stunning goal but a great hattrick too.

Special mention for Giggsy though, never ceases to amaze!

Can't say any of our players had a bad game, they got the job done with style! And I still see people getting on Rooneys back, I thought he played well today although he was given a lot of space. But with more experience there i'm sure he could get his brilliant first touch back.

Great win, over the moon! Title is where it belongs and Manchester is red as it always should be. Time to kick on and get the points record! {Ed004's Note - Not even Kloot should be able to complain about tonight ;)}

Hi Guys
What a night. I would like to congratulate every fellow Red on title number 20. Some may say this isn't a great United side well the table says different. A massive gap over good teams that were supposed to be much nearer to us than ever. I could go on and on about which players stood out but for me there is one man that should take the credit and that is Sir Alex Ferguson. Yet again when somepeople were doubting him including some on here he has proved the master again. I look forward to an interesting transfer window and then we start all over again.

Thoroughly enjoyed tonight and so glad we've got the big 20, thought it was a great performance from the players and thought the fans were brilliant throughout. However, I couldn't help buy notice rooney was very lacklustre, he is just proving to me that he has the midfield capabilities of Darren Gibson or is that harsh on t'old gibbo? He's just so predictable, even Steven Ireland read him like a book. We really need to invest this summer and improve what is shaping up to be another Great squad produced by SAF.

I still like Rooney in midfield, buy Stroots and Lewi and we are a lot closer

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He struggled in the 2nd half when Lambert got his players to close him down quickly. I guess Lambert initially thought he would play up top so didn't get his players to target him, as soon as he could chat to them they came out in the second half and gave him no time to do anything. Rooney can do a job there, but he isn't the long-term solution.

Rooney has done more in cm in the first 12 minutes than clevs has managed all year
Rvp simply quality
Jred

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Rooney can play well in midfield when he has time on the ball. He may well be playing there permanently next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said jred. It speaks for itself that a 27 year old converted midfielder is prefered to 23 year old who according to a few is having burn out and not recovered yet after so many games break and they expect them to rule united midfield.

Rodio17

Agree0 Disagree0

Then El Ahmadi presses Rooney twice giving him no time on the ball and Rooney twice loses possession. Rooney needs plenty of time and he will not get that in the EPL. Lambert has already figured it out. So we still need that midfielder.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rodio, this is not the night for having digs at United players. Especially a player who has contributed a lot this season. Behave yourself ;)

We won the fackin league!

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
Carrick and kags also got caught in possession nobody plays a perfect game ( or very rarely ) especially playing a position he is still learning but as pointed out the other day some people can do no wrong some can do no right.
Rooney started the move for the first goal and played the ball for the second but yer el Ahmadi pressed him twice

Rooney can play up top in the hole left or right of a front 3 and with a lot more games cm, but let's sell him
Jred

Agree0 Disagree0

He started well but faded as he tired. He also does tend to try Hollywood balls a little too often. Imagine that team with Goetze instead of Rooney, or with Kagawa playing the deeper role and Rooney up front

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2013 19:53:59
Is it me or did gary nev just say kagawa is better on the left than in the hole? Garys got it wrong!

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2013 19:37:33
Interesting line up, I hope its not 442 with Giggs in a midfield two and Kagawa out wide as that is niether of their best postions. Or could it be Carrick and Rooney in midfield with Giggs and Valencia out wide and Kagawa playing off RvP.

Personally i'd like to see this team in a diamond formation, play Carrick at the base with Valencia and Giggs either side of him and Kagawa at the tip and play Rooney with RvP upfront.

I expect to see Rooney given another game in midfield though. let's see how this pans out.

The 2nd option. And it worked pretty nicely in the 1st half TBF! I've been against seeing Rooney in CM but I'm willing to remain open minded. Not a bad assist for the 2nd goal!

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to admit Rooney is having a good game in CM and Giggs on the left is so much better than anyone else we have at the moment especially going forward.

Rafael is an incredible right back and so happy we have him hopefully for many years to come.

Yet some of our best performances this season have come from using it. Chelsea away and Newcastle earlier in the season. I don't think its the ultimate answer but I feel we could and maybe should explore it abit more.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2013 19:24:26
Well done Shahram you predicted correct. Giggs to start in midfield beside Carrick. I knew Giggs will start, but hoped he would be on the left. Giggs & Carrick will go to war with Delph & Westwood. I think we may be okay there mate. Rooney or Kagawa on left/hole, RvP upfront.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If he plays in midfield he is one stubborn man lol.

He does have a fixation with him and would have thought the barca game a few years ago would have been enough of that experiment.

SAF needs to build on this team in the summer. The formation used this year 4-2-3-1 has worked but caused Chico and Rooney to get the hump.

I think welbeck needs to be played out wide of the front 3 or on the bench not to be brought on as a striker that will be Chicos role.

Lewandolski rumours sound promising and I think he would be a good buy. Everyone seems to forget RVP is 30 next year so has not got many years left, lewandolski has been in fine form in Germany and will learn from RVP and will suit the way united play replacing RVP in a few seasons. His link up play with Kagawa will split teams apart.

Rooney can drop back to a midfield slot next to carrick in front of the defence like alonson and khaderia play for Real. With rooneys work rate and vision he would become the complete midfielder also helping out with goals.

Nani to be sold for £15 - 20m.
Anderson to be in a swap deal for James Rodriguez plus £24m.

I would like to see Gotze or Erikson but would prefer Gotze as think he will be the best midfielder in a few years.

We can rotate between Rooney, kagawa, Gotze for th behind the striker slot and with the position in from the defence next to carrick.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Rooney in midifeld wouldn't work, to compare him to Alonso or khedira is laughable.

I think people need to get real with their wishlists. We won't go spend 60-70-80 million on five players who have never played in britain. Its not fergies style. Its usually a mix. We'll probably buy a couple of domestic based players and foreign based players. Look at last year, we bought buttner and kagawa who were foreign based and powell and van persie who were domestic based. I can see us doing the same this year, rather than trying to settle in four players we'd have to only settle in two. Fergie does like players with experience of playing over here.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why not, we will generate close to 30 million from player sales and with a 40 to 50 million net transfer budget we could spend that. I do agree we could end up buying a couple of players from other PL teams.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

I think no-name's point was more that we'll buy a couple of players with premier league experience, rather than all players from leagues from abroad.

I think we'll spend a decent amount but I can see a couple of signings under 20 million (Strootman, Wanyama, McCarthy, not all of them but players like that) and then 1 bigger signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2013 19:27:34
I tend to agree, its far to easy to be swept up in the excitement. I expect we'll sign 3/4 players including Zaha. So with Zaha we are looking at at the most three more players, Lewandowski and Strootman look likely so maybe just one more. Will it be a CB or LB, or will it be a LW or flexable attacking player, or maybe even another midfielder. Either way I would expect to see all our activity wrapped up asap when the window opens. that's the way Sir Alex likes to get business done.

If I was a betting man I would say two midfielders and either a striker OR left winger will be bought. let's wait and see.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mort

I think you are probably right. We always have one big signing every summer. Might be Lewandowski.

I might not be either but I've watched a fair bit of Viktor Fischer.

He is an 18 year old super talent playing for Ajax. During his devellopment in the Ajax youth system, he has been conmpared to Christian Eriksen. They have some similar attributes, mainly superior technical ability and position. Both like to play as a second striker. But while Eriksen is best at floating around the opposition box, cutting defenses wide open with his vision, Fischer is much more of a finisher. More often than not he will try to dribble his way past a defender and score for himself. He is extremly skillful, strong, fast, has a great foot and is quite the finisher. Attributes whoch make him best played as a wide left forward.

I think we shoukd definetly sign him up. In a couple of years time he will be talked about like Goetze is now.

Mick

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2013 16:41:57
For me he is the most talented player playing in Holland atm. He's a striker similar to Henry, he likes to start out on the left and cut in on his stronger right foot. His movement and vision are excellent, and he is very quick with leathal finishing. Long term he could play as a main striker, inside forward or in the hole, but much of that will depend on where he moves too and which style the manager at that club chooses to use. He is a must sign for me, but I don't see him moving until summer 2014 at the earliest and maybe that is best for his development.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks guys ill keep an eye out for him

Agree0 Disagree0

Mick and Shappy have described him very well. Super player for his age and extremely quick and direct. In a few years he will be one of the 21/22 olds with silly valuations on him.

He will not join any team if he does not get playing time and has said so publicly. Any team who signs him has to give him games on a consistent basis and not just the token stuff.

Him and Draxler for me are 2 super talented guys for any team who wants to invest on youth but with immediate contribution.

If we got them the future of the club would be very bright with two potential super stars.

I agree, just hope no one comes in for him this summer. He can get into quite a few sides in Italy, Germany. The best thing for him is to stay at Ajax for one more season and if he progresses at this rate, then he would be a marked player next summer.

I can't see us moving for him this year. The ideal situation would be to sign him and loan him back for a year. That way we've got him long term and in the short term he'll still get plenty of game time to aid his progression. Plus maybe if we approached Ajax with a deal like that it could put us in the driving seat and make signing him easier.

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely agree Shappy, would be perfect for us, Ajax and the player himself, And Shahram agree with that about draxler, a net spend of 35M would be enough to get both but bot would not be guaranteed starting time. However with the likes of ageing players (Carrick, Giggs) and leaving players (Nani, Anderson, Fletcher, Scholes andmaybe Young) Their would be enough space for quality which both, Draxler And Fischer have in abundance.

If anyone missed Benfica's 3rd goal from last night I suggest you watch it, Gaitan is some player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I missed the game but have also made the same observation in the past. He is actually underrated compared to some of the other guys we are being linked with. I think he has a much more all around game than some of the other guys and very good in being able to operate in a crowded midfield area.

Better decision making than Rodrigues or Lamela which is also a function of being older and more mature.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

He showed his brilliance last night and I think he is more of a central player compared to Llamela

Agree0 Disagree0

Shahram, while atm he is more mature and experienced than both, I don't think he is better than Lamela. Lamela has been one of the best players in serie A, and has been turning some top drawer displays. And serie A is a better league than Ligas Sagres. But I do agree that is better than Rodriguez, but less talented imo.

Apart from that the goal was stunning.

Mick

Lamela can also have a mare and had a horrible game a few weeks ago ( can't remember which game) and yesterday was quite poor again.

Gaitan can play left wing and central and has great passing and distribution. He is not a typical winger who bombs down the wing and hit and miss with the end product. Physically he is also stronger than both rodriguez and Lamela.

I don't know if you remember but I posted this earlier in the year both Lamela and Rodriguez go down too easily for my liking and will not get no quota in the pl.

So if it is a question of 35 mill to 20 mill, I think Gaitan is better value as those 2 are not worth the extra bucks.

So, tonight COULD be the night. I fully expect that we will win, however it won't be easy and I'm sure Sir Alex will be saying the same to the players. Let's just get out there, keep focused and wrap it up in style in front of our own fans. I've been waiting for ages to see a game where we grab it by the scruff of the neck and dominate from start to finish. I have been saying all season that for me, there is still something missing from this team. In the biggest games we have often lacked a cutting edge and more often than not we have gotten over the line without playing well in my opinion. A win tonight, along with a good performance, would be a great way to start dispelling those accusations. I hope we can do it.

Come on United.

your right. We're missing james mccarthy.

Powell should play along with carrick and jones in midfield kagawa rooney behind van persie playing against a bad villa midfield

Powell is injured I believe.

Lets beat Villa before we celebrate.

They are battling for survival so it won't be a walk in the park.

Your right. it is not at villa park. its at OT.

i think it'll be a tight edgy nervous affair but villa are vulnerable at the back and if we attack them we can score. Villa however are pretty good going forward and have a good forward line that causes teams problems with pace and movement. They also as you say have nothing to lose. I think the longer its goalless the more it plays into their hands. However if we score first and early then their forced into having to attack and the weak backline becomes more exposed. Fergie and the crowd though will fire us up. MrE

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we will be coasting along 2. 0 up, wasting several good chances and then in the final ten minutes Benteke will score to keep things interesting.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd

It will be tighter than that, especially if we start with giggs in midfield.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

Giggs should start on the left, that is where he is most useful and we could use any of Anderson, Jones, Cleverley & Rooney to partner Carrick.

I don't see it being a tight affair, I think we will come out the traps looking like Champions.

Agree0 Disagree0

A midfield of Carrick, Cleverley and Anderson would be interesting. Kagawa to play in the hole behind RVP and Rooney.
I still see Jones as a defender but he could start instead of Anderson or come on as a sub.
Paulo.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd

I am not a big fan of Rooney in midfield. AV midfield are quite pacey and ti think he will struggle to keep up with them.

I think we might see Valencia Rooney Welbeck with RVP on top. Knowing SAF and his fixation with giigs expect giggs to start with carrick.

Shahram

Surprise surprise

Giggs Carrick midfield. Let's see how we go.

By the look of things, only Buttner, Powell & Fletcher will miss out on an EPL medal this season. Everyone else have played ten games or more. Lindegaard is on 8, so I imagine he will play a couple of times between now and the end of the season. If he doesn't then I guess that could indicate he will be leaving this summer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Buttner surprises me I thought he'd have played at least 5-6 games this season already - shame for him

i think the opposite if he plays he's going as then he can leave with a title medal

An ideal summer for me would be this

Ins: Strootman, Erikson, Garay
hopefully not too many outs, IMO only scholes and maybe few fringe players will leave.

This would put us in a great position to retain title and should help us back into contention for champs league.

What we think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not enough and I don't rate Garay and Eriksen doesn't know where his best position is. Would rather have Strootman, a winger and Lewandowski.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stroots yes Eriksen yes Rodrigez yes

Lewandowski yes

possibly try to start working on a deal for Fischer in a year or two defo yes!

Just a quick question. What position do you think we will improve in the summer?

Cant wait for tonight 20th title en route :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think a striker midfielder and cb will be signed.

TRUMORS

Agree0 Disagree0

A striker, CM & a LW - Signing a CB is unnecessary, SAF has already come out and said that Rio should stay for one more season. So we'll still have 5 CBs plus reserves who might get games in Cups like M. Keane.

Looking forward to seeing the lads wrap things up tonight.

On a personal note, I'd love Giggs and Scholes to play a part at some stage, just so my son can say he got to see two modern-day legends play in the flesh.

And not both starting in central midfield, before the lynch-mob start on me!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hope you and your lad have a good day out. Enjoy!

HBadger

Agree0 Disagree0

Scholes is out for the rest of the season I believe. He will be hanging up his boots this summer. Giggs may start, reason being he usually starts the games that will wrap up our title. He sometimes gets the much needed goal too. Personally I would start him on the left wing whilst Young is out. I suspect Nani, Anderson, Buttner & Hernandez will play a lot in the final four games if we can wrap the title up tonight.

Agree0 Disagree0

Really looking forward to tonight - I think the Fergie and trhe players will be right up for this - we haven't won the league at OT too many times that I can remember - hopefully the lads can put Villa to the sword early and we can relax.

I was planning on coming over for this one beofre it was moved to a monday night - raging now but can enjoy at the comfort of my sofa.

Stick to the first 11 - we can field youngsters and fringe players the rest of the season.

Come on lads let's get number 20 :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers HB - should be a good night.

Didn't know that Syd, but I'd settle for one of the two. I'd start Giggs over Young EVERY game to be honest - doesn't say much about Young, that I'd rather have a near 40 year old in ahead of him, but I've never rated the lad much anyway.

It's all about getting the right balance I suppose in the last few games - putting players in the shop window, getting squad players enough games for medals, giving some of the youngsters a go, being fair to other teams and chasing a record points haul.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we finish things off then we will see a few players put in the shop window like Lindegaard, Nani & Anderson who will be the three biggest departures aside from either Rooney or Hernandez. Evra will be rested as will a few others. Don't expect RVP to be rested though, he will be going for the golden boot in these last few games and I am positive he will want to play against Arsenal.

Aguerro stamps on a player, no action. Nasri goes with studs snowing, no action. Suarez bites a players arm, probably no action.
Can u imagine if Rooney had done any of these? The fa would have been on his back, banning him for ten matches, the press would have called him an absolute person and called for his head. United would have been slated for even having such a player on their books.
So what happens next, probably nothing! sad really.
Nomidfield

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There will definitely not be 'no action' against Suarez. The referee did not see the incident and it was off the ball, therefore the fa rules state there can be action taken. It isn't a witch hunt against Rooney you sound like a Liverpool fan saying things like that.

We probably won't see Suarez again this season and I wouldn't be surprised if he misses the start of next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

If the referee had seen it he would have given Suarez a straight red. He never seen it so the FA can now act.

There is pretty much zero chance he can escape punishment for this. He is caught on camera and he has admitted biting by apologising to Ivanovic. I think he will get at least a four-game ban. I suspect a hefty fine too.

What I do wonder is if Liverpool would have taken internal action had they still been in the hunt for a top four finish, I doubt they would have to be honest. The club will happily ban him now as they have nothing to play for.

Perhaps we can talk about United now?

Agree0 Disagree0

Whats the point in a fine though? Its small change for most footballers these days
