So Chelsea it is. can't wait.
Big improvements this season in nearly every respect.
Although the season has been littered with 8 to 10 really poor results and performances.
Also we have had games with good results but poor performances.
Its quite clear that there is about 1 third of the squad will leave this season.
I would imagine 8 of the squad that started this season won't be in the squad starting next season. Ibra miki carrick fellaini darmian shaw and i suspect any 2 from mata martial blind rojo jones smalling.
2 full backs 2 midfielders.

Agree Ken. I think it’s only the media (again) trying to disrupt us (as usual) . The closer we are to success the more they try to disrupt and discredit us.
I would like to think that the team is coming together stride to stride. Just goes to show there so much anti ManUtd jealous of our history and fear of us becoming even more successful.

Them players have barely been in the squad this season.

That's the point jred. Certain players are registered but hardly featured so surely we can expect them. yo be leaving.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2018 21:52:24
Not only do they not feature mort they are not putting pressure on valencia young pogba smalling sanxgez whoever. And on the occasions they do need to play they offer very little. A really good squad has players pouring pressure I others for their soot. By and large we only have that in the forward and cb positions when all are fit.
Sign 2 full backs and keep young and valencia as experienced squad players. Christ for 3 positions in midfield we have pogba matic herrera and fellaini as first reserve that is threadbare.

22 Apr 2018 23:49:53
Jose has said time and again he likes a small squad .
Carrick with his illness is a miss but we still have mctom pogba Herrera matic and fellaini. We will prob sign 1 for cm .
Won't be many 3 tops first team players tho .
Like every summer and any other team prob sign 3 ish players.

I've no problems if he wants to use a small squad an fill the gaps with young players like with mctominay. But there's too many too content to sit doing very little for hefty remuneration. These players need to move on.

Great result yesterday against a good spurs side. Great mental fortitude and never say die attitude that Jose has seemed to have instilled in this squad. This must be one of the most frustrating united squads I have known. Can beat anyone on its day but when it loses it loses badly with a whimper and lack of fight.

Thought Sanchez was brilliant and I love his work rate. Charging around the pitch like a terrier making tackles and darting runs. Great to see. Pogba grew into the game and looks a world beater when he is given the freedom to play further up in the final third. Pass for Sanchez was amazing and I would like to see Sanchez play more on the right or centrally so him and pogba don’t get in each others way. Smalling and Jones really stepped up and credit to them. Though the full backs were poor although Valencia had some good last minute tackles early on. Definitely need to invest in 2 new ones on the summer.

But my man of the match was Herrera. He as brilliant and looked like the player of the year that he was last year. Hope he stays because he is captain material for me. Just gets what it means to play for united. Well done to Jose 3 finals in 2 years is very impressive. Whilst the style is not always great he is doing a good job so retains my backing for another year at least. Have a good feeling if we buy correctly we will challenge next year.

And finally to have a bit of a laugh there were articles in the independent saying that united players are in revolt against Jose and have compared the Luke shaw situation to Mo Salah situation at Chelsea. It’s astounding the negative press this united team and Jose get. Just beaten the media darlings spurs in their own backyard and not one word of positivity. Hated, adored, but most definetly not ignored. Enjoy your Sunday guys!

Agree and great post Park though I differ in MOTM since I feel Sanchez work rate is the best.
As to the media, you have this feeling that when we play well most of them still are negative. Nothing new to me. My comfort is that they recognized we are coming back and they hope we do not dominate like before.
Even the commentators were rooting for Spurs when I was watching the game. I just turned the volume to almost inaudible 🤣. I’d love to see what nonsense they will still rat about when we win something 🤣🤣.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Apr 2018 12:56:43
Good tactical points, there, Park. I agree about Sanchez playing further away from Pogba, though in time they could figure it out on the left side as long as they keep moving and playing off of each other. And Pogba once again was at his best in a midfield three with Herrera's excellent work and defensive responsibility.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - It seems we alternated between a 442 and a 433 yesterday depending on the circumstances. I reckon Jose has been working on it for the past couple of weeks and we are finally starting to see it work better. Pogba played a lot of the game on the left wing while Sanchez played a lot closer to Lukaku almost like a second striker. However, when we are under pressure and Spurs pushed both fullbacks forward Sanchez was tasked to drop back.}

22 Apr 2018 13:02:58
Agree 666 the big players stand up when it really matters and hats off to Alexis he was great yesterday. I must admit I didn’t think he deserved to start but he proved me wrong! So true the bbc coverage from Danny Murphy was laughable. I think the thing that frustrates me is that it isn’t a fluke we are second in the table. You can’t fluke your way after 34 games played. Not saying we are a great watch but credit needs to be given from where we have been the last few years. That credit must go to Jose whether people like him or not.

Agree6 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Exactly what I've been saying all season. It's not luck that's resulted in us being second. We have had a few very poor performances this season but as a whole we have definitely improved and that's with shocking fullbacks and unreliable centre backs}

22 Apr 2018 13:15:56
Couldn't agree more ed. The fact we beat spurs yesterday with almost no attacking threat from our full backs speaks volumes imo. We are basically relying solely on the attacking players to stretch the opposition defence and when there are no overlapping runs we look very one dimensional. I thought shaw did that well against Bournemouth but clearly his days are over at united. It was interesting to see Lukaku come towards the right at times and sanchez to go more centrally where i think he is at his best. We need to allow the front 3 to be more fluid and interchangeable.

Im still not pleased with the style but I cannot fault the progress we have made and sticking with the manager is clearly the right thing to do. Stability seems to be the key. Thought jones and smalling were very good yesterday but jones is made of glass and smalling always has a mistake in him. A partner for Bailly would be a welcome addition but is not essential.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - If the reports of Martial wanting to leave and us selling him to fund another signing we really need a top player coming off the right hand side such as Isco (role he plays at Madrid often), Dybala (1st pick) or a potentially wc player like Pulisic}

22 Apr 2018 13:17:36
Bang on park and ed004.

Agree3 Disagree0

22 Apr 2018 14:53:01
Totally agree ed and park. If martial is unhappy, then we have to let him go. Isco will be a dream signing. And Dybala will also be incredible.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - One of those would complete our attack. I'd be happier with Dybala because then we would finally have a set piece taker and proper number 10}

22 Apr 2018 14:53:37
What about leon bailey ed. He looks a top class player.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Haven't seen enough of him so can't comment}

22 Apr 2018 15:33:32
I tend to agree AAA on martial. I am one of his biggest fans but if he doesn’t want to be here then he needs to go. Jose clearly expects his forwards put a shift in and do defensive duties. But above all I think he wants to see desire. That is why rashford is ahead of martial now. Martial is more talented but rashford and Lingard for that matter work harder. I hope we don’t see martial leave if he can put his head down and work harder. But it looks increasingly like he will be off. I would love Dybala as ed said for all the reasons he listed. We need a world class attacker who can provide quality from set pieces, especially corners. Griezmann would have been my choice but Dybala would be perfect.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2018 15:44:04
It depends how much we get for Martial to determine who we go for aa a replacement. Dybala will be quite expensive compared to Isco and Dybala is apparantly a serious target for City.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2018 19:31:09
I would like both dybala and isco. The gap between us and city is big. We need more attacking threat and more imagination in midfield and attack.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2018 22:31:04
I want a golden goose right now!

I will be stunned if we get Isco and Dybala. Maybe bring back Perrera and add dybala.

If we play 3 in midfield to fit Pogba in then we have no room for a 10. Unless Pogba can play better in a 2, which he did early season.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Apr 2018 22:36:13
Jose is slowly but surely getting rid of all LVGs signings except the ones he likes. Rojo, Herrera and maybe Romero (unless he wants first team football) are the exceptions.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Apr 2018 12:32:34
We could always play 3-5-2, moving Sanchez back into midfield, with Matic and Pogba, then play Dybala as a no 10. 3 at the back then gives more freedom to the fullbacks to provide width in attack.

Ed001 was an interesting read and went as usual until I came to the PG’s stories. Gosh I can’t stop laughing out loud and got louder until after the 3rd one. Wife kept asking me why but just told her football stories.
Man still laughing as I’m typing this response. You’re bloody good man 👍👏🤣🤣🤣. Well done.

{Ed001's Note - before you ask, no you can't hold it!!! Gascoigne was a funny guy, but he did have a tendency to let himself go in the close season. One preseason I was sat up Middlesbrough's training ground and wondering if Jimmy 5-Bellies had come to training, only for him to get close and realise it was Gazza! You should have seen the look on Bryan Robson's face when he saw him. He was so disappointed in him. Though it did give him the chance to give Gazza some grief when they did a run and I went alongside them (as you do like) and I was running backwards alongside him asking if anyone had a camera to get a pic to show me mates. Gazza was pouring with sweat and gasped: "will you just f**k off, you are making me look bad!!" Shame it was in the days before smartphones as the staff there at Hurworth were great and it was so friendly, you could take part in the training and get stick off Bryan Robson and Viv Anderson. The Boro lot in those days were great, except Hamilton Ricard. It will tell you how different things were in those days, I found out he was signing for them as I was leaving the ground and he nearly ran me over. Judging by his aim on the pitch, I have no doubts he was trying to hit me but missed!}

The ostrich story was funny. imagine a player doing that today, going to the zoo and getting a loan of an ostrich for the day and bring him in to training. The faces on the players and coaches would have been priceless. he was one funny madman.
And so close to signing for United.
I love the gazza stories.

Great comeback yesterday's game.
Whilst we can all see that Sanchez worked his butt off and scored and my pick of MOTM, I feel Pogba deserves mention as he made that great and fantastic assist for Sanchez's goal. In fact I think Pogba really played well and if he is able not to be distracted he can become one of the legend in time to come. He will probably outlive Jose in ManUtd.
Back to Sanchez. His efforts need to be mentioned especially when he ran back to cover the defense. That said the defense needs to be seriously looked at. We can be seriously punished against more aggressive and pacey teams. No names to mention but I'm sure we all have a few in mind.
We have a potent attack and the selection depends sometimes on who we play against. Rash injects pace but lack in shooting and decisive actions. This attack team can work well together and Jose needs to realize that. I believe Jose will involve less defensive responsibilities from attack team once the defense is fully built and trusted.
We are somewhat ok with midfield but may need one or a couple more building the team around Pogba. Pogba is not slow but only look so as the way I saw that when he ran his strides is big and outrun most. BUT you would've notice that he is not the best defensive midfielder.
All in all I think we are still WIP and needs 3 to 4 signings max and we should be better than good.
Right now just happy we are in the final and a chance of silverware. Hopefully we win and close the season to what I would consider above average but not great. Spoilt as we are to the glory and dominant days but trying to be positive at least we are moving up.
Sorry long post.

I thought the defense played well yesterday done what was asked of them .
Spurs done well in midfield but the backline was solid yesterday, really don't know what people's problem is some times.

Agree1 Disagree1

22 Apr 2018 07:58:42
Jred, Son had the beating of Valencia literally every time. Spurs goal was down to Young getting caught up far up the pitch, and that was without spurs actually playing with a right winger. We need 2 full backs, possibly 3. Fabinho would be awesome for both midfield and right back, and a new left back, hopefully an experienced one like Rose, but would also like Sessegnon.

Agree3 Disagree0

22 Apr 2018 07:59:31
Jred no problem here but I felt we could’ve been punished a couple of time. Son was so quick and Ericksen was solid. Lucky we were saved by upright.
There is no doubt we played well (how could we not if we won? ) . But I’m saying we had luck with us but we need to tweak a bit to be solid next season.
Really don’t understand why people so sensitive some times.

Not sure how you can blame young for the first goal? Young attacks some one else steps in its then up to them to deal with it .
Sessengon hasn't played lb for months now and his future is further up the pitch

Good example how some players carry the can for everything tho .

Agree2 Disagree4

22 Apr 2018 08:26:12
Oh I wasn’t blaming anyone mate.
All I am saying is we can do better. Mind you Spurs are a good team. Just a little short of finishing touch.
As I said we played well and dug in. No panic and I like it. Seeing Pogba putting in effort and Sanchez scoring has me all very happy.
As I said we need to tweak a little more to come up with a solid team to challenge the title next season. This season is done and hopefully we can cap it off with the FA Cup. I can’t ask for more.
We have work to do for next season and Jose will be measured if the board supports him with the signings. We are in track really.

Agree3 Disagree0

22 Apr 2018 08:28:52
For whichever position, looks like Sessegnon is going to be great. The CBs were great, best I've seen this season. The full backs were ineffective esp in attack. I'd be happy if we only added full backs and one midfielder.

I think we played well for the team we have. Jose made reasonable good selection and the team delivered. No one is to blame for the goal imho.
But I agree with a couple or few more key signings would really make our team all round solid.
Hopefully with a stronger defense Jose will then get the team to play attacking football and also challenge the title next season. I am very hopeful.

22 Apr 2018 09:04:19
666 I agree. We seem to be well on our way to recovery from the post Fergie slump. The football may not always be easy to the eye but the progress is undeniable.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Apr 2018 09:49:59
I thought we were all over the place defensively. Spurs created a lot of chances in the first 25mins and the game could've been out of sight. Ddg was helpless on a couple of occassions but luckily the ball just missed on one occassion and hit the post on another. Every time Eriksson got the ball, i was sh. tting myself. Son had the beating of Valencia.
For a team that's supposed to be organized defensively, we look completely shambolic. It all stems from the attackers (apart from Sanchez) and midfielders giving too much time to the opposition, so our defense is always under pressure.

Agree1 Disagree4

22 Apr 2018 10:01:26
AAA agreed and I’m not defending the team blindly but we were very lucky albeit we did not do that badly in 2H. There were a couple of ref decisions but lucky Jose behaved himself unlike Klopp else he would’ve been heavily penalized. I magazine how far he has to walk up the stairs to be in the stand 🤣.
But yes we still need a few signings to bolster the team.

Young is solid enough at times but can't be our fullback next season.
They would be ok as back up.

Pogba was caught napping for Tottenham's goal in all honesty but it is pretty obvious we need two top quality full backs. That plus a quality midfielder, this team will look and perform very differently.
Sessegnon is a good player but he's no full back, he's similar to how Bale started. He has a real knack for popping up in the right place at the right time though.

' we are not talking yet but we should be talking in the summer. I do not want to leave manchester united when you are at a club like manchester united you want to stay as long as possible so if there is no new contract i will play the final season of my contract and then leave with a heavy heart'.
In strong contrast to the likes of fellaini who doesn't want to stay at the club fortunately. Or the likes of martial who has no interest in signing a new contract. Blind has said the same as herrera but darmain wants out. Rojo got a new contract and had hardly made a matchday squad since. Shaw looks like he will leave too. So bound to be a very interesting summer.
Roll on the cup final first.
