Quality performance from the Lads tonight

De Gea: 7
Smalling: 7
Jones: 9
Evans: 8
Evra: 7
Nani: 7
Cleverly: 8
Ando: 8
Young: 9
Welbeck: 9
Rooney: 8

Things can only get better Really impressed with young and evra linking up and also Jones looks a great prospect (Future captain anyone?).

Welbeck showed everyone why hes in Fergies plans this season and cleverley made some great runs and passes, including the assist for the goal.

Overall im very happy, and it was good to see De Gea get a clean sheet too

"welbeck and cleverley were great and will get the headlines but got to say jones and smalling are going to be top top players cant think of any better young defender's, jones never put afoot wrong tonight"

jred

Couldn't agree more jred. The lads were solid out for the whole game Cool and composed. Barely saw bale in the game And I'm also delighted de gea kept a clean sheet to shut some people up. Did he give anyone else a heart attack with his silky skills?

Who has had a better start for United?press agree for De Gea, and press disagree for Foster when he was here. I personally believe De Gea has had better start.

Rooney with 2 goals in 2 games. If he continues i'm sure he'll be Player of the Year.

Great result. The future of United's defence is very bright indeed, Jones in particular was fantastic tonight. It's easy to see why he's considered the "next John Terry". I was surprised to see Anderson and Cleverley partnered in midfield again but they both have bundles of energy and it showed towards the end of the second half. 10+ goals from Anderson this season? Young and Rooney look like they've been playing together for years, great understand there.

The one negative comment I'd make tonight would again be Evra. It's a good thing Lennon can't cross a ball to save himself because Evra lost him a few times. He's got to sort himself out quickly.

Oh, and if you're going to criticise a player, save it until after the game. Danny Welbeck - Man of the Match. Nuff said.

I remember managing to get to see united when they played port vale in the cup as a youngster. Imagine my disappointment when I read the programme. Who the hell are these people: Beckham, Neville etc. They were awesome that night and we all know what happened there. Tonights perfomance Fergies babes? Nuff said...awesome.

i cannot believe we were interested in Modric, The man is a disgrace, I used to think he was a decent lad but now, I really hope spurs make him rot in the reserves until his contract is up, 5 more years is it?...

As for tonight, got a feeling they could steal it, but at the same time we're at home so we should win.

Completely happy with our squad at the moment, if we don't sign anyone then we don't sign anyone, we're more than capable of winning honors so i'm really not that fussed. i would like a few players but i'm not desperate for them.

Tonight shall be interesting though, good to see Berbatov staying also.

@G.A.G.U.S

Im not sure if you read my point before but if you are like a fair few on here that think the next batch of youths coming through are likely to have brilliant careers with us i.e Tunners, Ravel, Pogba, etc dont you think these players would be hindered by the signing of another young CM 'wonderkid'? we think Pogba could get the push this year with Ravel possibly through the season and Tunners next year after his loan so surely an older head of the WS type would be a better player to have in our midfield than another youngster learning his trade?

Also how will our young Tom C feel if the first year he is kept, after all the work he has done to make a career for himself here, then we go buy a younger, similar player for big bucks in his position? He will start thinking 'what was the point?'

If we are trusting in youth? Then we already have the youth. We just need another top class 1st teamer who can help us now and over see this transition period in the next 2-3 years.

Jono
-------------------------------
The question I have to ask is, would Sneijder be a good fit in our team. Personally, I don't think he is. It is well noted that his preferred position is just off the striker. Rooney has excelled in this position lately and I feel he plays that roll better than Sneijder.

He has been playing for 2 years in what has become a very poor league. He won't have as much time on the ball in the Premier League and there is the obvious problem of spending £80million+ over 5 years on him.

I actually think, if United signed Goetze, it would motivate Cleverley. He will see a threat to his place in the team, and make him work harder to get in the team. Also, why can't Cleverley and Goetze pay together. It's also worth noting that we will play 60+ games this season. Cleverley, Anderson, Goetze Pogba, Carrick, Giggs, Fletcher. 7 central midfielders that will get plenty of games over the season. Bare in mind, this is only if we sign a central midfielder. There are otheer options i.e. Kagawa, M'Vila, Sissoko etc.

United announce £40m 'second' kit sponsorship deal with DHL. We have also announced a three-year partnership with Vietnam's leading mobile telecommunications company, Beeline, to distribute United content in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Perhaps now we will see the Sneijder deal pushed through.

Ed that is AON for £80m & DHL for £40m over four years. I wouldn't have thought it would be allowed.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - Fundamentally a club can gather as much as they want through sponsorship. There is an upper limit that can be claimed within the FFP rules.}

I imagine the team will look like this tonight:

____________De Gea

Small____Jones____Evans____Evra

________Carrick___Anders

L.Nani_______Rooney_______Young

___________Hernandez

But I think I would rather they lined up like this:

____________De Gea

Fabio____Small____Jones____Evra

________Carrick___Anders

L.Nani_______Rooney_______Young

___________Hernandez

Bale cannot play against quick right-backs and I think Smalling maybe a mistake. Although he would be needed for corners. Will Hernandez start?

Ed, can you post this on the Banter page please, no one reads the teams page.

What do the lads think?

Why are people saying "If we want to win the Champions league, we need to sign Sneijder"? Not only does this make you sound like a glory hunter, but when did we get this level of arrogance about us? Ive always been happy when we challenge for the Champions league, and if we lose in the knock out stages, then so be it, im just happy u
if we can put in a good challenge for major honours, obviously winning them is a bonus but we need to be more realistic at the moment Barcelona are untouchable. Sneijder would be a luxuary, not a neccessity. We have Fletcher, Carrick, Cleverly, Giggs, Pogba, Park, Anderson, Tunnicliffe all who are capable of playing in midfield and whilst a marquee signing would be nice, the United I have grown up watching have been highly dependent on their youth and developing youngsters with talent into world beater

Give the youth a chance

UNITED_LEGENDS

p.s. Nasri would be nice ;-)

Looks like Wenger has made a bid for M'Vila. See link:

www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/Arsenal-manager-Arsene-Wenger-ready-to-spend-on-Eden-Hazard-Yann-M-Vila-and-Phil-Jagielka-with-Samir-Nasri-still-expected-to-go-article788811.html

I seriously think we should be bidding for him or another DM as this is what we lack. The amount of games we have conceded goals due to the space between the mid and defence is apparant for all to see and I would have expected our Management team to have noticed this. A decent DM would also allow Cleverly and Anderson to flourish.

Well lads and ladies this is my 1st post. Been reading some of the comments all during the summer and its nicle to see the views and opinions of fellow red's.
Think we've done good business thus far in the window and Sneijder will cap it all off just nicely, whether it will happen is a different story and from what I can gather it will run right to the last day of the window.
As regards a deal that will be done sooner or later, Jack Rodwell will be a Man Utd playeer by this time next year. The only way he will come in this window is if Everton receive an offer for him and considering that Kenwright basically told the world that EFC are broke on Friday gone, this is very possible in my opinion but I also believe that Utd have 1st refusal on the player also. It wouldn'tbe in the best interest of either party for him to come in this window as midfield placings would be at a premium this season and he would find limited pitch time, another year developing at EFC would be ideal so as to aid his development, in SAF opinion he is one of the best young prospects in the EPL.

Nasri's deal to city may have fallen through for the moment nut it is expected to be done in this window.

Does anyone else think that the Sam Eto;o deal is a travisty on Europen Football, I am sick to the stomach that a player of his calibre is going to be lost to the mediocrity of Russian football. I have always been a big fan of Berba, but unfortunately it appears he no longer has a place in SAF's new team, surely something coukd be done with regard a swap deal plus cash, Utd, Inter, Berba, Samuel and football fans the world over(except in Russia obviously).
