Tbf i don't understand how people can criticise him. Last year he came into an unsteadied ship with a manager who was out of his depth not to mention having to get used to the expectations of United and also injuries hindering him . Moyes bought him for a substantial fee to play him in a position where he doesn't really play well. He got a lot of stick due to the price tag

After a dreadful start to his United career he soldiered on bearing in mind LVG was happy to let him go. He has upped his game and is now playing a more suitable role and Is starting to put in some great performances under better management. And he has done it all with our own fans booing and jeering him every step of the way. Deserves a lot more respect and recognition for his performance as of late. Been one of our better players this season! Isn't the answer to all our midfield problems but he has made a difference playing a more box to box than deep defensive mid.

420,

He was booed and jeered by a MINORITY of our 'fans' in one pre season friendly game, the rest of the time I have heard nothing but positive reactions when he has the ball or when he has come off the bench.

He was brilliant today, one of our best players.

Agree4 Disagree3

I've been a massive critic of Fellaini. I still don't rate him too highly. Credit where it's due though, he has bounced back well. After last season and the criticism he received, he's really responded. A lot of players wouldn't have got through that, so fair play to him for that. But he wasn't brilliant yesterday. Resilient and disciplined yes, brilliant no.I know he laid a peachy pass to Di Maria for Rooney's goal but he also gave the ball away a couple of times in dangerous positions. A less profligate team would of really punished us yesterday. But he is definitely adding something to the team which we've been lacking and that's a bit of physicality. He's got character as well, but I always expect more from him, I don't know why. Still, he thoroughly deserves his place and he does seem to be be fitting in and gelling with his team mates.

What a three points, shorn of a defence and a point that will be missed is that LvG has asked young players to step up and they did but more importantly he asked the team to be more tactically aware. For the first time I can remember we had a team that was flexible tactically, ok it wasn't great for half an hour but we did adapt. I always felt the key was getting DiMaria with pace through the middle and once we went in front Arsenal looked beaten.
What is interesting is that DeGea is fast becoming something of a psychological barrier to other teams. Back in the late seventies I remember Peter Shilton gained a reputation for being unbeatable, psychologically teams knew they got past the Forest defence but couldn't beat Shilts and I think right now DeGea has that.
Today was not great but actually in a way it was a classic United Arsenal game, loads of Arsenal possession but play tight and catch them on the break. Take a look at our defence, McNair and Blackett and we still won, it takes some guts to do what LvG did today, change tactics so dramatically and it worked. The team grew during the game, we were awful at the beginning, I don't think they believed in it themselves but actually started to realise during the game they could win. If I was an Arsenal fan I would wonder how their belief could fall apart when they go a goal down.
Tactical flexibility is something we have needed and we are starting to appreciate, it is a trait in great teams and when people talk about philosophy it us also about be able to adapt. The team out there learnt to adapt.

We are not going to win the league but at the beginning of today's game I think there was some concern in the players, at the end, I think they believed, game on.

Great post that, I don't think people realise how flexible we've shown ourselves to be this year, 40 injuries to deal with but here we are sat in forth place, blooding youngsters on a weekly basis changing formations to suit who we play. Getting the best out of the squad we have fit! I would call that good management. At the moment there isn't another club which could cope with injuries we have and still be challenging for a top 4 place. I hope we can kick on from this now, LVG is making a team that plays for each other, this better than we had last year by a million miles. C'mon reds

{Ed004's Note - Look at how badly Dortmund are struggling with their injuries. Just to put it into perspective}

Good post red man

Great point about De Gea getting in the heads of the opponents now. He has been superb, and his confidence must be soaring.

That is 4 games on the bounce now we have shown a great resilience.

With Blind, Shaw, Jones, Evans, Falcao and Rojo fit, adding 2 experienced defenders like Hummels or Vidic or Otamenda or Vertonghen or Shawcross and then add, Kevin Strootman then we are in for an excellent season under LVG.

Congratulations on 3 very good points today pocession means nothing and goals are everything, you showed us that yet again.
Extremely jealous that your on the way back while we're still in freefall, hey ho I know that's not your problem
Good luck for the season and well done again today

Believable13 Unbelievable0

Fair play mate I wouldn't say your in freefall you just have the same old problem very similar to us actually and we were more than lucky to get anything at all out of that game. We really dodged a bullet today.

Well done on coming here today

My question is why your team lost total belief when you went one nil down. A couple of years ago I stood up on your site for AW after you lost 8.2 but where are you going? You have some seriously talented players but lack direction. You have a historic powerful club but AW has lost his way.

Cant wait for beast's dripping about Rooney today.

He will break all United and Englands records.

Poor tho hey?

Doesnt say a lot for those who played before him!!

P.S I hear Aguero's good if you want to move across the road!!

Rooneys stats P**ses on Aguero since he came to to England.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

I say it again. I don't know where all this Rooney knocking is coming from. He's a fantastic player. One of the best and we're very lucky to have him.

I thought Rooney was excellent today, he is the heart of our team, he is everything arsenal don't have, desire passion whatever you want to call it he is the example for the others. I agree with people who say that he hasn't reached his full potential, but the question is this would you rather he plays for Manchester United or against Manchester United? I don't care how much he gets paid, that he told the club we needed better players which actually might be true. When he plays like today he is world class because he played for the team. Its just my opinion not based on facts just the game I watch. Who would you rather have Welbeck who in my opinion disappeared after half an hour, or the man that scored the winner? With his only chance. I know who I would rather have.

Great 3 points fr us today, Hopefully turns the tide for us but judging on the performance of some of the players its not.

DDG and Rooney where our best players today, I felt despite Di Maria's pass to Rooney he was a little disappointing for me especially with not finishing his one on one. Smalling played well at the back, McNair and Blackett played well enough but both also made mistake throughout.

Great to have Carrick back as he does add experience and a calmness to the side. Young played well when he came on and seems to be thriving when given the chance (And when he isn't injured).

Im beginning to think the only reason RVP plays ahead of Wilson at this point in time is due to the fact that RVP rarely strays from the top. This gives our players when breaking an option to pass albeit one we fail to hit time and time again. Whereas Wilson moves around more and tends to get sucked into play which can leave us with no option up top when breaking. When he came on Di Maria was moved into the most attacking role to exploit the lack of bodies at the back with his pace and it worked. However we couldn't do this all match as Di Maria would have been marked out of the game.

I would think when Falcao returns to fitness he will play ahead of Rvp.

Good structure today and very happy with the 3 points. We are in 4 in the table at the moment. I hope Shaw's injury isn't to serious as we have enough players on the treatment table. Starting from November 29th to Jan 1st we will have 8 games. that's just over a game every 4 days. So hopefully we can get some players back and go develop some winning form.

Cheers on the site Eds, Great work as always

Big three points, despite a shaky performance. Classic Arsenal, good passing and movement, no finishing, luckily for us.

Strange performance from us. The formation looked poor, with very little one touch play, and the ball in the air too much. A few players were awful, Blackett in the back, Van Persie up front, and McNair was awfully conservative, but at least he doesn't get beat or commit reckless fouls.

I thought De Gea was magnificent again, Carrick was very steady in the middle, very mature game from Rooney, and solid games from Smalling, Fellaini and Valencia. Wilson was a real improvement on RVP.

I would love to see us play Falcao up front with Rooney, and a midfield diamond with Carrick, Di Maria, Herrera, and Fellaini.

However bad it looked for a while, we have beaten Arsenal away and are now in fourth!!

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Not to mention we have 11 players out injured. Our whole back four is missing so not sure what people expect.
Can anyone tell me what will happen if Chelsea's or City's whole back four was injured and their two reserve cb, 's as well?

One team tonight had pace, movement, quality passing and the other was utd.

What a dreadful game to watch and a poor performance.

Great 3 points if we end up wining, but masks the fact that apart from De gea we were awful.

My girlfriend hates football and said that was one of the best games she has ever watched. I was engrossed throughout and we managed to get the win, I am delighted at the result even though we weren't the best team.

Put it into perspective, arsenal haven't lost at home since August 2013, and we just beat them.

Agree4 Disagree0

The second half tension was great. Arsenal threatening time and again, and knowing we were going to get a breakaway chance sooner or later. Despite Di Maria's miss, he and Rooney look like a real threat together on the break.

Agree1 Disagree0

I'm with Huggy. I almost didn't watch the 2nd half we were so bad in the 1st one. Great result, real resilience but we were pretty poor. I guess we should have beaten Leicester so this game evens that one out but we looked nervous and unsure of of ourselves. De Gea made some great saves but also nearly caused 2 goals with poor distribution. Rooney has a good game and a great finish. The defence did well but generally, we looked a little pedestrian and nervous. What's odd is that if Di Maria had taken his chance we could have won 3-0. Bizarre.

Agree0 Disagree0

One team was arsenal and the other had injuries. Give them a break. All our back four are injured. Falcao injured. Blind rojo injured. Rafael Evans Jones Shaw injured. Do Maria played with a slight injury. Carrick and young just back from injuries. Herrera not fully fit.
So let's not get too down on our team please.

Agree0 Disagree0

Great 3 points and a battling performance but most of the 1st half we were very poor only de gea saved us.attacking wise we scored 2 goals yet only had 1 attempt on target :).rvp is offereing the team nothing at the moment.

I am ecstatic that we beat arsenal. I fully accept that we have a massive injury list to.

I am sorry but I di not feel the team performed well yesterday. Without De Gea we would have lost yesterday by a significant margin.

The result was more as a consequence of poor arsenal defending than Utd doing anything exceptionally well.

My personal view is that Di Maria is being wasted and is regressing being stuck on the wing.

RVP was awful. In an ideal world we should bin RVP and give De gea his massive wages to ensure we have done everything to keep him.
Eds please tell me this Shaquiri + cash swap deal is just paper nonsense. I like Herrera and would not like to see him leave so soon.

Would love to see Wilson start up top for us

Agree1 Disagree0

What a bizarre match! United were dire yet get the 3 points! Van Persie needs a break now. Doesn't look interested at all. Still, a makeshift defence, away from home, 3 points, top four. A poor performance though and a very very odd game.

Agree1 Disagree0

What about the Rooney debate, done his job with winning goal today, not bad!

Agree1 Disagree0

Yeah I agree THE WORST performance played with youngsters at the back had to play to wingers at full back, then we had to rely our goalkeeper to save some shots. Got ourselves organised and picked arsenal off with counter attacks the same way Sir Alex would have done. Really the worst performance? I'm not sure myself

Agree2 Disagree0

Rooney has scored more goals against arsenal than any other player in premier league history, not bad

Agree1 Disagree0

You could add the Welbeck debate to that as well I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, but what about his hair, truly shocking

Strikers, January - bojan at stoke, former barca man? Still only 24? Magical little player? Or the guy from ajax, Fischer? Worth a punt with rvp coming to a close, and of course berahino? Just a thought! And we all know falcao going back to Monaco end of season!

Just heard Klopps comments about managing in the prem, did we look at him before we got LVG in ?? Not that I'm saying I want to replace Lvg I don't I'm just wondering if we were interested

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed004's Note - I think an ideal scenario would be for LvG to continue here over next few years and build a strong squad like he has done at previous clubs like bayern and barca. Then once he leaves klopp to replace him after he stabilises Dortmund again (just to ensure he can manage a team effectively over a lengthy period of time as they have regressed a lot this season}

22 Nov 2014 14:01:04
Our squad still is unbalanced.
Mata, Rooney, RVP, Fellaini, Blind, Carrick all look so slow and hardly beat their man.

We certainly need someone pacey to play upfront.

and I certainly feel Wilson being put up front would be a real handful for the Arsenal defense. Mertesacker won't be able to cope up with him.

RVP needs to be dropped to the bench, on his current form, I'd rather have Welbeck instead of him upfront.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Whoops. Cgu will be at you now!

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Nov 2014 12:12:12
I think we should beat arsenal, if di Maria is fit he should give chambers a lot of trouble with his pace, Rooney and rvp should do well in this game against a bad arsenal defence, just hope our own defence is strong.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Our two weakest areas are defence and midfield (still). I have no issues with the attack, it's the goals conceded that will be an issue later on today. I banged on about Hummels and Vidal all year, but to be fair these two would have filled two major holes in our team. Clearly the club will go all out for Hummels in the summer and if any other team moves for him in January, then we will move for him January, but we really needed him this season, not next. I think we will concede at least two today, I am not convinced we will outscore Arsenal with our current injury concerns and with RvP still not at 100%. Wouldn't mind seeing Wilson get a run out today. Is ADM 100%? I think we have a few players on pain killing injections at the moment. It's a great time to play us at the moment, but to be fair it's also a good time to play Arsenal, but I think our defence may cost us today.

Agree1 Disagree3

I think LVG will have seen Chambers get blitzed the other day and will fancy ADM against him. It would be great to see Wilson up against Mertesacker today. If we play with pace our best form of defence is attack today.

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree leahy. Our defensive record is no it as bad as people are making out. If we hadn't conceded 5 against Leicester, we would have the second best defensive record. As it is, we are 7th defensively.
However, attacking wise, we have underperformed considering the talent we have. Nowhere near as good as we should be. This could be due to the attackers not scoring as many as they should, but I don't think we've been as creative as we should be.

Agree3 Disagree1

I believe RVP is a problem in the same way Berbatov was. He has no pace and teams can push up, the only caveat is that DiMaria if fully fit would love to have space to run into. I would rather play with DiMaria in the middle behind Rooney or alongside Rooney and behind Wilson than have RVP up front.
Arsenals defence is shaky like ours but they keep possession in the middle of the park and we must not get caught short of numbers there. DiMaria's pace if through the middle channels alongside their centre backs could cause issues but we can't go 442 today with two wide players or I would be concerned.

Agree1 Disagree0

When we start with smalling our record isn't great this season, smalling and jones were to take over from vidic Ferdinand, they have been given enough time now just not good enough for a club like united, I hope we address this in January, between injuries for the 2 of them.smalling lack of concentration.
