13 years ago a young dog strayed in to my home, a cross breed he was, I said I'd look after him and if someone didn't come looking for him I would keep him, anyway I kept him and called him Keano, the dog could do anything but talk, my best friend came everywhere with me in my car or van,
This evening my old boy passed.
Honest to God he used to watch United on tv with me, and I think he knew when they won by the way I was feeling.
Anyway I don't know why but I said I'd share it with you lot.
Farewell my best friend.
I'm gutted.

Good set-pieces today I hope Jose was taking notes, that Maguire is a real handful, liked him at Hull but maybe still not ready for top-top team defensively. Didn't think we played particularly well today despite the scoreline. Sloppy passes, not quite on same wavelength in open play.

However Lingard was effective and scored a wonderful goal, pleased for him and us. Young frustrates me so much, the only reason he seems to play must be for some experience, he offers nothing going forward or defensively even against absolute fodder.

Kane got MOTM for both games in some media, but I want to see more from him - 2 penalties and a fluke is not MOTM. I didn't realise MOTM is no longer based on actual performance!

I hope the boys keep their feet on the ground because that game could be a killer if we buy into the hype of the result. It was too easy, but fortunately the Belgium game should be a wake up call before the knock-outs.

Ken - Trippier is really growing on me, liked his interview as well, I see what you do with him now.

Beast i'm in bangkok so only saw a few bits of this game.
Looked fairly non competitive. Good start for England i'm pleased for Southgate. i'm not a maguire fan i think we have as good as him already in the squad.
Very open wc so far.

{Ed001's Note - why do you think he went there?}

24 Jun 2018 19:02:15
Regardless of the opposition team.

To go out and play like that especially the first 45 in a world cup group match was fantastic.

I can't ever remember the last time I was excited to watch England play

Even back in the golden generation times.

We may not have the best team on paper but we will cause anyone problems playing the way we are.

I'm not one for "I would rather finish second to avoid a harder knockout game" You have to beat the best to win it.

We've been crying out for passion and attacking football for years with England.

More of the same please on Thursday.

Lol ed, a bit of tender care after his big game last week.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I thought he was going there for training as they have some lovely places to practice diving....}

24 Jun 2018 19:16:44
Maguire looks too slow (including his thinking) and a few times decided to just dribble the ball into an opposing player.
Kane takes the penalties which he did well and completed his hat trick with a lucky deflection. I'm yet to see Kane do anything against a top class defence for both spurs and England. Yet he gets the 3 goals on paper and gets man of the match. I actually thought Lingard, loftus- cheek, Henderson and trippier were the most influential players today. But then again, what do I know, but before we get carried away with spending millions on Kane and Maguire just remember who these 2 games were against. Belguim game will be interesting and the last 16 when the pressure is on. Just see then who delivers when the stakes are higher and it's not always the usual suspects who step up.

Agree2 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 20:09:58
For years I've wanted to see a clinics England side knocking in 4+ against these teams. Usually we go 2 up and slack off. Lingard, Walker, Trippier, Loftus-Cheek and Henderson all impressed although the opposition must be taken into account. Sterling did nothing, really don't see the fuss.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 20:11:26
Played brilliantly against Madrid Supasub and he scored against Juventus in the CL. Pretty much always scores against the rest of the top 6 in England aswell.

Agree2 Disagree1

24 Jun 2018 20:45:40
It could be a little naive not to be aware who we could or couldn't play in future rounds it could be a pretty huge difference in quality . I think Belgium won't lose any sleep if England top the group and their team selection may reflect that against England but that stuff will be a whole load clearer by Thursday . I don't think it was as great a display as the score suggests they were pretty pants and in the world cup because of geographical location more than ability but we put them away well and it's not our fault they had limited ability . jesse looks good in a midfield 3, granted opposition wasn't great but a lot of prem games we will be heavy favourites aswell.

Agree2 Disagree0

25 Jun 2018 01:22:29
FFS, England just won 6 1 in a world cup game and people find problems to moan about. The first half was the best I've ever seen from an England team. My mates and I loved it. Now doubt there are always things that can be improved but if your English can't you just revel in the fact we've qualified from the group and played some great football?

Agree2 Disagree0

25 Jun 2018 01:58:41
No to Maguire. Don't see him as much of an improvement on Jones. Enough second tier players like them. Top tier is what's needed, like Alderviweld, Varane or Boeteng.

The best 1st half ever from an England team, really? But then I have been watching them since the 82 world cup. Don't get me wrong I'm enjoying this world cup in general for about the first time about 20 odd years but it was Panama. We should be getting out the cigars now and then.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jun 2018 18:34:10

Did we win something that I don't know about.
Oh wait we came second that's great.

Agree3 Disagree1

24 Jun 2018 15:26:26
Jred nobody said we shouldn't sign Shaqiri because he plays for stoke. We said we shouldn't sign shaqiri because of a) his attitude and b) because he hasn't lived up to his potential and hasn't played well at any of his last 3 clubs.

We're supposed to be making top signings to get back to the top of the game. Not making signings consisting of players who are past it or serial underachievers. We've had enough of those over the last few years.

You mean Leronzo Peregrini or Hirving Lozano, jred? If its the later, He did well with Psv and he is attracting interest from some big clubs.

24 Jun 2018 16:56:05
Dalot is supposedly one of the best full backs in Europe, won European championship under age with Portugal
The boy likes to attack,
Will he make it at United, who knows but the boy has huge potential.

😂😂😂Ken and sing😂😂.

Agree2 Disagree1

24 Jun 2018 18:24:34
Why are we comparing Shaqiri to lingard? Jesse is a marauding midfielder and he does that brilliantly. Shaqiri is a right winger who has played in lesser teams. If he's available at a decent price, then it'll make sense to buy him as we should be looking to buy a wide man for the right side.
He'll offer a good alternative to Mata being played there.
And if people can't see our lack of width hurting us, then god help us.

Agree2 Disagree1

24 Jun 2018 18:52:26
One of the best young full backs i meant to say jred. So the pkint is he should have potential now who knows but we can give him a chance.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 19:03:35
If shaqiri was that good he would still be at byern.

Average player for an average team

There should be no debate on here about him.

Agree2 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 20:16:39
Getting wet? How old are you?

All I've said re Dalot is that its good we're moving back to a tradition of signing unknown youngsters and I hope he settles quick, challenges for a starting spot and makes the position his.

Dont rate international players? I think I've said plenty of times I don't rate players based on a couple of games at a world cup. I've also clearly explained several times my reasons for not rating Shaqiri but as usual you cherry pick what you want from peoples comments and ignore the rest. I am now thinking you just post to cause arguments.

Agree2 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 20:19:48
AAA I think most of us have said all season that we need a proper right winger. However its my personal opinion that that player is not Shaqiri. I don't see what he would add after getting bombed out of two big clubs and swanning around in stoke looking half arsed in a relegation battle. Clearly he lacks the mental aptitude to succeed at big clubs and we have enough like that already.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 20:34:39
Spot on mort. He is just a wind up merchant.

Agree2 Disagree1

24 Jun 2018 22:17:24
Mort. I understand where you're coming from, but if it means getting him or no one else, then I'll get him. We really lack width on both flanks as i don't subscribe to the theory that Rashford or Martial can play as wingers. On the right side, we have no width at all. So our team is very predictable.
Lets see what mourinho does in the transfer market.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 13:18:09
So two games against Tunisia and Panama and our LB gets skinned every time the opposition get the ball. Fingers crossed for Sandro/ Tierneg/ Gaya.

Jred you are the king of thinking only your opinion is right. Nobody is saying we know better than Southgate or Jose. But young was done a few times early on today. Nothing wrong with calling it out.

Weak link tho?
Still haven't got an answer why he gets picked for man United and England.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 16:55:45
Question for you jred, seeing as those you like to ask them. Whose better - young or rose? Just because Southgate and Jose pick young doesn’t mean he’s good enough to be playing in that position. Young has been decent for united, but doesn’t mean that we don’t need an upgrade. At the end of the day southgate and Jose are paid to make the decisions and yes they have more experience and knowledge than all of us. Doesn’t mean every decision they make is correct.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 17:01:58
The same Southgate that persists with a horrendous Stirling.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 17:46:11
Wasting your time fellas.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 17:46:57
Its simple. How many other English left backs are there? Rose is coming back off a bad injury and Captain Kebab ate his way out of everyone's plans. By default Young is the best left back in the country. He's worked hard for it but if other people had lived up to they're potential then we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Agree2 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 17:54:10
Jred England played Panama and Tunisia, young or England didn't get tested yet.
Would you be happy with young starting lb next season, if he goes up the pitch his leg ain't getting him back if he gets caught out.
We won't be threatening the league
Or champions league if we go with the same defence next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 18:05:09
Ashley young should be a back up utility player, but he's worked dam hard for his position and chipped in with goals and assists. Why all the hate if there's nowt better out there back what we have.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 18:05:47
Not a big fan of rose had 1 decent season .
Young imo was good last season which is why he is first pick for England and United.
Which is why Jose and Southgate pick him .
Still waiting for an aswear of the experts as to why Jose and Southgate are wrong .
And you's are right 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Agree4 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 18:45:16
He is picked for united because he is the best of a bad lot. blind shaw and rojo are no competition all are very poor left backs young had his best season ever for united and played ok. But he is not the future whi h is why the club are trying to sign a lb. If we don't get one then young will continue i'm sure as 1st choice. All 3 of blind young and shaw are going into the final year of their contracts next season which says it all .

Agree2 Disagree1

24 Jun 2018 22:24:34
Gaya will be my choice. I love his attacking instinct and crossing is superb.
But going back to England, i think Young is doing ok but nothing going forward. Why didn't we pick ryan Bertrand for the squad?

The two players who have impressed me from germany are kimmich and Brandt. Kimmich is a modern day right back. He pops up everywhere. Can cross with both feet. Very agile and quick.
Brandt is going to be a superstar. He's the reason Sane is not included. Amazing player and how united could do with his wing play.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

24 Jun 2018 11:57:46
I'm not so sure about Kimmich. Looks a bit suspect defensively in my opinion. You're right about Brandt though. He is going to be one hell of a player.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 14:00:17
I Think kimmich suits the central midfield role best. He is a competent right back but like Alaba in my opinion would be better as a cm.

As for Brandt, well, the Germans look very static in attack. With only reus being partially effective. They lack penetration down the flanks and brandt can offer that.

I will say his inclusion at the expense of sane is pretty ridiculous. Sane was one of the most efficient players in Europe last season and he did it playing good looking football.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 15:48:42
Agree AAA Brandt has been good when he has come on. Seems to have a really good shot on him. Hit the post twice with some belters.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jun 2018 05:30:19
Sane has attitude issues and thus is kept at arms length by many of the German team. So he wasn't picked. This is what I got from reading ed2's post.

I think people should stop talking about Sane's exclusion so much. It's not like non of the other players are good ones. Brandt for instance had a great season at Bayer. Also Sane thought better off not go to Confed Cup. Guys like Werner, Brandt, etc went there performed well and earned a spot on merit.

So stop this Sane talk. Germany still have a great squad. If they have an issue it's in defence and centre mid.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 10:32:20
As we are clearly in the market for more midfielders as Fellaini will no doubt be off, wouud Chelsea entertain a move for Loftus-Cheek seeing as they are never going to play him?

Can see Jose looking at Kovacic too.

Wilshere would make me cry if we sign him. Questionable attitude and fitness regime, and we already have one of those in Luke Shaw to try and get into shape.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

24 Jun 2018 10:42:09
I rate kovacic but I wonder if he’d start regularly here? Something which would likely be an issue as that’s why he’s leaving Madrid. Good player though.

Roms broke a record today! At the age of 25 he has scored 40 international goals compared to CR7 and Messi at the same age

Romelu Lukaku 71 40
Lionel Messi 70 26
Cristiano Ronaldo 69 22

Is this a far judgement? Big Rom is an out and out Striker where as CR7 and Messi began / are as Midfield and / or converted to Striker. It is very good statistics let's hope he can continue this good form and he finally gets the service he is crying out for and we can dust our cabinet again.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

24 Jun 2018 06:11:45
Yes lukaku is an out and out striker, but i'd have to say if you put ronaldo or messi up front and fed them passes all day they'd score way more, and let's be honest lukaku would.

At 25 years old it's an excellent record . He was one of the youngest players to get to 50 and 100 goals as well.
Although he had it easy playing for Everton and West Brom and getting fed chances.
