Use our rumours form to send us manchester united transfer rumours.

25 Apr 2015 23:32:07
So if the murmurs are true and Depay and Gundogan are almost over the finishing line then where does that leave Ange Di Maria? Looking at the squad objectively you would imagine Depay would eventually take Young's berth in the squad and Gundogan would eventually phase out Carrick or alternate with Herrera for a while.

Unlike a few folk on here I cannot see us dropping our most important outfielder in Felliani as he is key to the way we play and with Mata showing his class over the past 4 months then the question is can we really afford to leave ADM on the bench for another season to depreciate?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - There is no doubt in my mind that Di Maria will be a much better player next season. I expect Gundogan to replace Fellaini and Di Maria to replace Young. Will leave us with a very strong midfield. I don't see Gundogan replacing Carrick. He has always had a player covering him in midfield such as Bender or Sahin}

26 Apr 2015 00:30:18
I agree with you about Fellaini; I see him as a vital component of our time at the moment and don't understand people's tendency to view him as a squad player. He can be unplayable at times and has to be marked out of the game by the opposition.

Not so sure deals for Depay and Gundogan are truly that certain?? It seems every summer most people on here have nailed on a few signings just because we have been heavily linked in the media but that's not always the case. I think Depay would be a quality signing and although Gundogan is the type of midfielder we need, I'm worried about how well he's recovered since his injury.

Lastly, with injuries to consider and the added games of cup competitions next season, I don't really see a problem with having hypothetical attacking midfield options of Di Maria, Mata, Januzaj, Young, and Depay next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Apr 2015 06:24:08
It's a squad game and they will all fit nicely into the big squad needed so that champions league football doesn't affect the league form. You really need two top players in every position to compete on all fronts and that is where we are heading.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Apr 2015 07:27:34
I don't think hitting those balls up to Fellaini is the philosophy LVG has, I think it is just what was required at the time with the players we have. look what happened when we came up against Mourinho he simply nullified him. That will happen time and again now if we play that style every game. I think LVG wants to move away from that with a more fluid system, look back at any of his sides and he's never adopted that tactic before. However it is a useful style for certain teams and at certain times during games so it's a good option to have. If in champs league next season we will need more versatility from our squad. Also look what happens if we pick up one or two injuries or some suspensions we are left playing Rooney in midfield and he is not a midfielder. As long as LVG can get everyone a game a keep the players happy the more top players at the clubs disposal the better.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Apr 2015 07:42:14
At the risk of repeating myself I'm not understanding the pedestal some put Fellaini on. He was improved greatly and in some games has been excellent but I don't think he has been more important than Carrick, Mata, Hererra, and even Young. Not trying to dis Fellaini but let's keep him in perspective

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Apr 2015 08:01:50
Agree witH AJH, it's not so long ago we was all calling for fellaini to be sold. A handfull of good games doesn't make him our most important player in my eyes. That's not to say I'm not happy with how he is playing, but I'd rather see him do it for a longer period of time before I class him as undroppable.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Apr 2015 08:55:06
AJH,

I agree, think some people are saying the only reason we are doing well is because of Fellaini so they can say the philosophy is just long ball up to him when it really isn't that at all.

Fellaini has been much improved and did a wonderful job on toure, but like you say, there are other players who have been just as important over the last few weeks.

Agree0 Disagree6

26 Apr 2015 10:06:30
I disagree completely lads. I feel that if you took Felliani and De Gea out our squad this season our points tally would be very different. It's a team game but individuals do make a difference in big moments. Of course maybe I am being biased due to the fact I like both those players but surely there are folk who would agree with that statement both United fans and neutrals.

Agree2 Disagree2

26 Apr 2015 03:01:11
I'm guessing you would expect Depay to take Mata's role at the moment then Ed004? I disagree about Felliani though, I don't think he will be replaced for next season as I feel that LVG see's him as a valuable part of the first 11. Of course just my opinion but it will be intresting to see what happens.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - No. I expect him to start in the bench and earn his position. He will get plenty of game time however. Couldn't break up that Mata and Herrera link}

26 Apr 2015 12:39:49
Its a team game but important individuals do contribute more than others. That's always been the case. If fellaini was not there, then I'm sure someone else would have done a job in his place. So the whole argument is hypothetical.
I think we're all delighted that fellaini has started playing well. I could not see that happening. And I'm delighted for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Apr 2015 13:14:52
Who could have done what Felliani has done for us this year Nomid?

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Apr 2015 17:30:28
Felliani will only be a squad player imo next season a good plan b. I'm hoping we get a world class box to box midfielder in the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 23:27:50
With reports that we are again interested in Howedes for 12.5m I was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on who we should buy at CB.
Do we want 1 or 2? Experience or youth? Who should we go for, varane, otemandi, Howedes, Hummels, vlaar, laporte?
Finally who should be our CB pairing next year.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Apr 2015 23:56:00
I'd take Garay or Godin. We've enough youngish defenders. Bit of experience and craft in there.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I am hoping for Hummels or Godin tbh to partner Smalling}

26 Apr 2015 03:01:58
Hummels will come in, especially if reports of Gundogan are true. If only we could get Reus in a triple swoop as well!

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Apr 2015 07:28:09
I would personally rather have hummels and laporte to replace Evans and jones

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Apr 2015 07:35:04
Ideally I'd have hummels and varane. Hummels is a ball playing CB but just worries me with his lack of pace. Whilst smalling ilhas improves in recent weeks he has a got a mistake in him and his ball retention isn't great. Varane is quicker and already looks more mature defensively even at his younger age. I really like Godin as a no nonsense defender but I think LVGs system needs better footballers at the back even now i'm nervous when our CBs are in posession they misplace a pass or run out of defence and lose it quite often. I think paddy McNair can become our current best CB too looks so much more composed than the others, if we can get him playing in and around a truly world class CB he would learn so much it's a pity he didn't come through a few years earlier when we had Rio and vidic in their prime.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Apr 2015 17:33:00
I see hummels playing alongside a pacey player like Rojo. Think that would work well.

I know Sky Sports will say anything for a good story , but this really takes the biscuit!!
I just flicked over to SSNews and they are reporting that Tom Cleverley has tonight scored a goal in a football match.

Astonishing.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

25 Apr 2015 21:48:32
It's amazing what bit of confidence will do. I'm rooting for an even greater fantasy - Cleverley scoring the winner at Wembley against Arsenal! The better he does, the more he sells for this summer. Likewise Chicharito.

Agree0 Disagree1

25 Apr 2015 23:07:41
He is out of contract this summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 23:43:33
Many people seem to be confused. This is his last year contracted to United. He will go for nothing. Unless we have an option activate another year and then sell him on as was the case with Evra. Which I don't think is the case.

Agree1 Disagree1

26 Apr 2015 07:43:16
We should never have let hm go out on loan. It's a crying shame as he would be a regular in our 1st team now.

Agree0 Disagree3

25 Apr 2015 18:13:22
Been watching benteke very closely this half and he's a lot better technically than people give him credit for, his hold up play is impecible, shame he's born offside but that can be taught. Also Grelish looks a talent, seems to glide past players, let's not get carried away though, media could kill the kid.

Excellent results for us today. With our superior goal difference, it looks like 8 points from 5 games will secure 4th place. A win at Everton tomorrow would be a fine start. I really don't care much for suspense.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

25 Apr 2015 19:50:42
Liverpool and Spurs results ease any pressure. Shame City got a winner at the end, a draw there would have been the icing on the cake. We need to win 2m to keep the pressure on Arsenal and City in the battle for 2nd-4th.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 20:02:25
4th we need to go for 2nd,attack attack, attack!

Hi ed
do you know if Monaco are willing to negotiate Falcao's price or will they want the fee that was negotiated at the time of loan ?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - They will want as much as they can get but I am sure they will negotiate a little.}

25 Apr 2015 18:52:08
Thanks for the swift reply ed.

25 Apr 2015 14:13:53
Imagine if we complete the gundogan deal, then push for Vidal. Those two with Herrera in a midfield three would have everything!

Believable3 Unbelievable0

25 Apr 2015 16:17:27
Vidal is the other MF name I've had in my head as well! From what Ed has said its could be an achievable transfer, i think that would give us brilliant options in the middle then

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 17:13:59
we clearlly tried in the summer to get vidal and if what the ed said is true about juve looking to get rid of him we could possibly get him a lot cheaper than the 40 million quoted last summer.

what a midfield 3 we would have.

it also looks like we are going to sort our targets out very early for a change, very exciting summer ahead :) "hopefully"

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 17:19:13
Don't see us signing another cm after gundogan if it goes through. Although if love Vidal too

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 19:27:32
I said it a while back if we could get both Vidal and Gundogan for considerably less due to their injuries we could be on to a winner if both returned to former glory. Gundogan as the DM, Herrera in front with Vidal just in front of him. Depay, Rooney then Either Mata/Di Maria/Januzaj what a team.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I don't think Gundogan has ever played the holding role in midfield. Sounds good the way you describe it but seems a bit unbalanced.}

25 Apr 2015 23:15:56
We need some physicality in midfield if LVG opts to drop Felliani next season (which I don't think he will). Carvalho or Naingogglan would be perfect. But a midfield 3 of Gundogan sitting deep, Herrera slightly ahead playing box to box and the big Fella driving at defenders with his powerful presence could be key to winning is the league next year.

If you throw Mata and Depay/Bale (unlikely) on either side of those three it gives us technicality and guile on one wing and raw pace and power on the other. No room in starting 11 for ADM at the moment for me though.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 14:17:35
Anybody else hate it how some players point to their name when they score? Chadli just did it and Vardy was going crazy for the back of his shirt the other day.

I appreciate there is emotion involved but I can't help think that it's almost a money thing, maybe they want better deals, should play more or are wanting a move etc. I just find it really distasteful. Basically saying "its all about me".

Just a pet gripe of mine I have started to notice a lot recently.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

25 Apr 2015 14:34:33
I prefer it when players over celebrate, weather its a money thing I don't now but I understand what u mean,

Like when teves scored for united againat city and put his hands on the side of his ears as if to say "wwhat you saying"

I think players getting booked when celebrsting with the fans is a joke.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 14:38:21
Do they do that after they've stuck their thumb in their mouth, or after? I hate that one.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 19:25:39
I've scored goals at a lower level and afterwards people have said 'what the hell was that celebration?' And I have no idea what I did. When you score a goal you aren't thinking what you are doing, the excitement overwhelms you, so I have no problems with any celebrations at all, do what you want as long as you are happy you've scored you'll do for me.

Agree2 Disagree3

25 Apr 2015 23:22:33
Here in Australia the Ozzy football league, the AFL have banned clubs from putting names on the back of players jumpers because they say they don't want the game to become soley about individuals but about the team.

I didn't like it at first but I can see what they mean. You switch on a game on sky and the first 45mins of a 50min build up will be about one star player, not the lad who has overcome injury, the young kid getting his first start or the team collectively. How many times have we seen players running over to star players for their jerseys after the game or even half time? Is that what is really going through their mind during the game?

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 23:50:46
I've came off the field and have had no recollection of what exactly I did to score let alone my celebration. Can you imagine what it must be like to score at this level with that pressure? Easy to be self-righteous sitting on the couch,Beast

I'm pretty sure Mata did it this year when he wasn't getting played often

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 14:15:17
Well, if you believe the rumours then we are very close to getting Gundogan and Depay which I imagine would be announced at the very beginning of the window. Hummels hopefully to follow after that.

Would these 3 constitute good moves or not?

Believable4 Unbelievable0

25 Apr 2015 18:53:44

He will be a gun for us should he sign. Remember Paul Scholes's range of passing and ball magnetism? This lad has that in abundance. I can't see his injury being a huge concern or we wouldn't be looking twice at him.

25 Apr 2015 14:11:59
Benteke as a back up signing would be absolutely fine for me, a very dangerous player when in form and one who probably wouldn't command a starting spot. Ings is also a good option for a back up role.

How do?

Do you think RVP and Falcao will stay? I'm hoping RVP does with him getting a better recovery period at the the end of the season? Falcao, with a shadow of a doubt has to go! But, I do think we will need a new striker? Wilson needs some loan time, but we do need someone else come in? I like Ings but we need a mid-20's top draw striker who will bang them in for fun! If we get Depay he will will help and I think Di Maria will find his feet next season? Any thoughts?

If the reports of a deal for Gundogan are true do you think this will be the only midfielder signed this summer or can you see the club bring a second midfielder in also?

Thanks

De Gea is being offered 200k a week . Yes ! he is a great goalkeeper and certainly will be crowned as best goalie but 200k for a goalie seems too much(even though for a player of his class ) .
I didn't liked the talk of him being swapped with Bale but i think it won't be a bad deal if we bring another good goalie too

He is world class, without him this year we certainly would have found ourselves further down the table. If he goes whoever we sign as a replacement will not be better than him. We need him more than he needs us.

Without him this year we would be languishing in 6th place. Goalie or not he has earned us more points than any other member of our squad and if the going rate for an indispensable player at OT is 200k a week then the lad deserves it.

What we pay players is largely irrelevant. And are you seriously saying Real would do a straight swap? DDG is worth the £80M they paid for Bale? Pie in the sky

25 Apr 2015 10:54:17
Why is 200k for a goalie too much? De gea is one of if not the most important player we have so I think he's worth every penny. I don't see how it makes a difference what position he plays

IMO if we can get de gea to sign on the dotted line then he will be our most important signing of the summer. If we can't then we hould insist that a RM player should be part of any deal as opposed to straight cash. In order of preference i would go for Varane, benzama, bale.

{Ed002's Note - That is not how business works at all.}

Try not to worry about it mate, all will become clear in the summer

Pay him. Top class goalkeepers are like hen's teeth compared to outfield positions. You can get away with having an average midfielder in your team, but you can't get away with having an average keeper.

It looks like Gundogan is bagged for around 21m (it is more than i thought as he was injured for half of this season and only a year of contract left) . With Gundogan actually being a box to box midfielder with great defensive ability, do people think he will be our only midfield signing this season . He is yet to reach his best after his injury but if he does reaches then we will be in for a treat .
For me he is there to challenge for the two spots with Herrera, Fellaini and Di Maria too but will he be able to play the Carrick role ? I was actually looking for us to sign someone to do exactly what carrick does for us if not better so i am still not convinced that Gundogan will fit into that role . May be another midfielder too??? EDs!! any view?

Why should he fight for spots with dimaria or fellaini?

Dimaria is a completely different player i think though he may be more effective when used centrally.

Fellaini is more recently used in a special role by LVG. Even though fellaini is big it is more easier for a opponent to get the ball from him legally than aguero. I don't think Gundogan is that sort of player.

Gundogan has both steel and ball passing ability in him. He is there to replace carrick in the long run.

With his full physical and mental fitness, him along side Herrera is a treat to watch.

My question is if United feel it is important to replace carrick, why don t they feel the same for replacing the great one Paul Scholes?

'Bought to challenge for Di Maria's spot' Would that be his spot on the bench?

I jest, I jest. Haha

Delighted with this signing if it does happen, I think we would have signed him earlier only for his injury problems. If he is truly over his injury woes we are in for an absolute treat, Gundogan is quality

I actually don't think he'll do well for us. He's had a big injury and I'm not sure he is the physical presence we're looking for in our midfield. If we are to challenge the top clubs, then Pogba has to be the midfield enforcer. Gundogan is good but nothing special.

NM,

You need to get over pogba, that ship sailed years ago, I don't know why I keep seeing people saying we could get him, it seems highly unlikely and implausible to me. Gundogan before his injury was one of the best players in his position in the world, he is getting back close to that form and that has coincided with Dortmund's improvement, I can't see why he wouldn't be a brilliant signing for us at only 24.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 11:24:00
Gundogan has played mainly as a DM for Dortmund, he doesn't actually make that many tackles though. If he gets back to pre-injury form we'll have one hell of a player for a relatively low fee. If we do get him I would assume he will be the only CM we sign, although I'm sure I read somewhere in LVG's 4-3-3 system he likes one of the Middle 3 to be left footed to help the balance in play.

i think gundogan is a risk ,much in the same way hargreaves was.
with a bit of luck it will work out a bit better.
gundogan has played ok since xmas but still no where near the level he reached before his injury

25 Apr 2015 11:58:32
So let's say Gudhogan fights it out with Carrick for the holding role, Herra will no doubt keep his position. Do people feel LVG will stick with Fellaini or go another direction?

25 Apr 2015 13:24:56
I for one would be chuffed with Gundogan absolutely fantastic player and still young too.
pre injury we were all desperate to get him even more so than Vidal so hopefully is injury is behind him (ha his back) and we will get him

i think a lot of people forget just how good we were for the first half of the season,2nd half of the season we are just doing what needs done to cross the line , as champions elect i do think we need to strengthen in the summer to be able to keep the title , for yourselves just 2 signings i think and you will be right back up there , AND NOW YOU going to BELIEVE US

Very solid team with quality in the key areas and tactically sound too. there's not many weaknesses either and with a couple signings this summer they'll be there or there abouts next year again. I do expect us, Arsenal and perhaps City to close the gap next season tho.

25 Apr 2015 09:39:17
Chelsea are worthy winner's this season played some scintillating stuff early on .

You have a manager who can match anyone when it comes to tactics.

Your recruitment policy is superb.

Next season will be a different story imo I see a very interesting battle between our managers also it seems that the players we will bring in will be sorted very early on giving us a good bedding in period and in MY opinion we will come out on top above all I cannot wait til next season it's going to be a slobberknocker!!

Potential to be a greateam but your Manager will hold you back. His natural defensive tendencies will always shine through. Shame really given the team you have accumulated.

Boring to watch and no matter how much mourinho goes on about the English game been played in the right way his chelsea lot really push them boundaries having said that up until about January chelsea were miles ahead of everyone. It is a worry for English football in generall that our best team only got to the last 16 in Europe.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You have looked at the points difference between Chelsea and the other clubs? It is far from a worry for "English football" that Chelsea only got to the last 16.}

25 Apr 2015 11:13:57
Chelsea were excellent in first half of the season and arsenal and United have been excellent in the second half. So bodes well for next year.
It was worrying how easily Chelsea were beaten by PSG. And even more worrying how easily were beaten by barca. So I don't think any of the sides in the PL are exceptional.
Hope that changes soon as real, barca and bayern are well ahead of the PL sides at present.
Jmb no one forgot about the start we had to the season, the 50 odd injuries, the introduction of a new manager and 6 new players. But that's what happened and 6 months down the line we started playing much better and we're showing signs of coming back to the level we want to be. Can you not give it a break with lvg or are you never going to give the manager and players credit for the way they have performed and especially the last three months!!

in both his spells at chelsea jose has only lost 2 league games against united , city and arsenal that some record

Jmb - why is nearly every post turned into a dig at lvg. The post was to rate this years title winners yet lvg gets a dig yet again.

We all know the first half of the season wasn't great but regardless we have been in the top 4 for months

Pretty boring and it's starting to get a bit repetitive.

Read the post above Spb. LVG is the only man for us and is irreplaceable.

In terms of the post I was stating that folk who said Chelsea have been boring and poor have short memories as it was us that was boring and poor less than 16 weeks ago.

{Ed004's Note - Since the new year I haven't been impressed with Chelsea. They have done just enough to win the league since then tho. They were outclassed by PSG who Barcelona destroyed. I think this highlights how far behind all English teams are in Europe}

Done the tour Friday with the Old Man. He's always liked football but never really been into it. It was my 2nd tour and the last one was in 1998. I was intrigued to see how things have changed behind the scenes but my dad was blown away. Like a kid at Disney land. He never owned one thing United branded before but he shelled out over £100 in the club shop. He kept staring at the ground as we walked away.Totally brought into the ethos and history of the club as I talked him through our history, Munich, trophies and players. Days like this, makes me proud to be a red. Have a good weekend all.

I remember my first game back in 2004 vs Portsmouth, will remember that day for the rest of my life. 50 games on and I still can't get enough of the place.

To this day I still feel bad for my dad with the amount I had him spend that weekend in the shop ;)
